Very nice woman. Kinda goes off on tangents. Covers slightly less material than most, but is pretty easy. Don't really know what to expect on tests, but always easier than expected.

Go to class, take notes, get an A. Seriously, she goes over a fair amount of material but she presents it in a logical, clear style that's easy to remember. A good choice to get that Cell Bio req. out of the way.
She is an awesome teacher and an easy one too. All you have to do is go to class and take notes and you're good to go. Her tests are DIRECTLY out of her notes!!!
Her Life and Inquiry course makes you feel like your in gradee school again. I grew a lima bean sead in a plastic baggie and wet paper towel. take if you want a good grade but you need to suck up.
Easy prof. Great lecturer and she gives study guides.

Excellent teacher that works hard to make every student understand the material. Uses terrific analogies to make complex material easy to grasp. While other students have commented she is an "easy grade", I feel the student gets a lot out of the
Very clear class with notes and tests that are not bad if you study. Her lectures are fun and the material gets more complex thru the semester, but it is not that hard. Kinda like a HS bio class at times. Overall a good class and a good teacher.
If you want an easy teacher for Cell Bio, this is the one for you. You have to go to class though cuz she tests right out of her notes. Definitely does not include the most information in the semester, but is really thorough on what she teaches.
Very nice and has a sense of humor. Tests are easy if you come to class and take notes.
she is a good teacher you don't have to read the book unless she asks and yes focus on the hand outs and fig that is mainly the test. her tesr are mult.choice normally 50 Q's
4 tests weighted equally, 50 MC questions each. Recommended for those who want doable A and non-bio major MCAT takers. Most of her teaching is conceptual, and some material is seemingly left out, which hurts bio majors later. She is very nice though!
class is very interesting, but the tests are tricky.
Shes awesome, makes biology easy to understand, study guides and notes are all you need for the tests dont even need to read the book, great teacher.
Shes really cool and yes its true you dont need to read the book but the tests arent as easy as some of these people make them out to be, you definitely need to put in hours of studying if you want an A or even a B on her tests
you have to be in class everyday, she gets really upset when you're not and it effects your grade. tests aren't easy b.c she doesn't use the book very much
She's never on time for class, she is kind of rude, and she's rather boring. Class attendance is required, but the exams aren't horrible. no papers, but there is a large, and rather pointless project due near the end of the semester
tests are directly from lecture notes. good for non-bio majors. she don't go in detail in any chapter. It can hurt bio major. some times lectures do get boring. But she tries to make them fun. Easy A
Had for from gereral biology to research. Man, she is great. She is just awesome. However, do need to study to get A. She is extremely helpful in and out of class. Loves questions and provides complete answers. THE BEST professor at Loyola!!!!!!!!!!
She is nice and funny in a weird way. If you do the CD and the study guides you will get an A. There are 4 tests and that is it.
If you want to do well, go to class. Only 4 non-cummulative tests, but based on material from class. She is a funny teacher, and she really knows what she is talking about.
Do not take her. Seems like should be an easy class, but her grading is horrible (some discrepancies about the final, I wouldn't be surprised if she purposly took points off), and had to teach everything to myself from the book. Weird, old, mean lady.
lectures were interesting, but she makes it seem as though you dont have to read the book. this is totally not true. as with every biology class, you have to teach yourself and you have to keep up. i didnt like her at all. she is really unhelpful
the coolest and best prof ever! very easy, weekly quizes but drops two of them, tries to pass everyone, doesnt like giving bad grades out..she is like a mom to us all, i love her and her class, thank you haas!!!
As long as you go to class and take good notes, you will be fine. She is a great teacher.
All you people who think she isn't the easiest bio teacher ever must be extremely dumb. She is the easiest bio teacher at Loyola and you don't have to show uo for her class...just go to the test date and read the book yourself. EASY A!! TAKE HER...
Her lectures do seem boring but only because the subject matter is so easy. If you don't get the material, you must be dumb. The tests are easy-straight from the book and the study guide questions. The project at the end is a big poster-very easy.
She was not helpful at all and I felt her to be extremely biased towards students...if you are male you will probably do better in this class than any female. This was just my experience.
Worst teacher ever! Could care less about her students. Her lectures make no sense and she uses the dumbest analogies. DON'T Take her...I dropped that class b/c her grading scale was HORRIBLE!
Just go to class, take good notes, and study those notes, and if you don't get an A there is something wrong with you!!! Great teacher! Tries to be funny, but isn't. Explains everything like five time. Shes Excellent! TAKE HER!!!
Ok, she's a very nice lady and pretty funny sometimes, but when it came to the tests...she totally killed me!!!! I went to lecture everyday, took good notes, STUDIED like no other, and am pulling a C. I thought she'd be easy, but that's a definite NO-GO! CHOOSE WISELY MY FRIENDS!!!!
I agree with the last comment. Her lectures are confusing. She is funny and nice and will help you if you ask for it but overall confusing.
extremely confusing. her analogies really screwed me up sometimes. i dropped her class. i went to lecture....never missed one, studied, and took great notes, but i was no match for her tests. those things kicked my ass.
Dr. Haas is an awesome teacher. She gives analogies that get stuck in your head, and make it easy to remember. I'd take her for 102.. except she isn't teaching it this year.
GREAT TEACHER! She is very helpful and fun to be around. She’s very animated and this helps in a class like biology. If you want to do well in her class, take copious notes and study from them. Do the study guides she gives you and you’ll be fine.
****eeeeeeeeeeee
Dr. Haas was awesome! She is one of the best teachers I have seen teach. I did well on her tests, basically just study and you'll do fine. She explains things really well and her examples help if u like analogies for learning.
Professor Haas is a nice professor, but her classes are very confusing, and her tests are difficult. You can only miss 5 questions out of 50 to get an A, and she rarely curves the tests. She is a nice person, but you'll definately need to put in a lot of work to get a good grade in this class.
Really easy teacher. Moves too slow, but gives you a study guide for evry chapter. Tests are easy if you study. Go to class because tests are only based on class notes. Answers a lot of questions and explains things throughly. Good teacher!
Horrible prof! Extremely unorganized and lectures all over the place. Very unclear with lectures and assignments and you don't know what to expect on exams. If you're a non-science major...take this course with caution.
shes kinda strange, but a pretty good teacher over all. tests arent hard if you study and do the reading.
Good Prof..sloww lecturer though..but just go to class and u'll do fine..
Haas is the best professor I have had at Loyola. She is really nice, her lectures are very clear, and the tests are mostly based off your notes. Go to class and read the book if you like. Do her study guides and you should do fine. She gives good analogies and makes biology interesting. Take her!
Dr. Hass is the best teacher at Loyola. She's willing to answer any questions inside and outside of class. Great lectures that are easy to understand and useful. Highly recommended
whoever thinks she is a good teacher needs to rethink that.....or maybe i just need to go to more than 3 of her classes....
Professor Haas is a very hard teacher and her questions on exams are ridiculous. I didn't miss a single class and took extremely comprehensive notes and still did poorly. She is one of the worst professors I've ever had
she is a great professor. she is light hearted and easy going. enjoying her class
Its easy to get an a- or so in it. But shes not too reliable. She promised a certain extra credit question and a certain # of probs for the FINAL-- but neither of those happened. Her tests are pretty much based on class notes. Shes easy, but not very reliable. Id take her over the other bio teachers
She has no idea on how to teach and you have no clue on what to study for the tests.
Great professor...she is explains everthing slow enough for everyone to comprehend. She uses cute examples and as long as you go to class and take notes you will do fine. Her tests are based on her notes and partially on the book. I recommend her! Very understanding!
If you attend class and pay attention you'll do fine. Her lectures can be really boring sometimes, she tries to make them fun by making really dumb analogies, that gets annoying, it's like being in kindergarten. Ex. "Freddy the Fly" .... seriously...
Pro haas is really nice and I like her as a teach. however it took a few weeks to get a hang of her teaching style.

She is the nicest most caring teacher in the school. She is always willing to help out her students.
She is cute as a doll! Must take her! She is clear and tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests, etc.
I liked the class and I learned a lot. Between her lectures, the textbook, study guides, I came out of the class feeling like I really had a solid grasp of the material. But there is some truth to the alcoholism rhumors, so if that bothers you, think twice about taking the class.
Wow, I pay over twenty-thousand dollars to have a teacher like this. How sad! She was not helpful at all and her lectures had nothing to do with the book so it would be confusing when she asked you to read it. Her lectures did have interesting information about weird thoughts. She really made me wonder why professors are allowed to teach here.
Haas is the EASIEST teacher for upper level bio! The people who are complaining are idiots and don't know how to study! If you take good notes, skim the book and ask questions you will get an A like I did. You have to be lazy and moronic to get anything less, which seems to be abundant at Loyola.
Dr. Haas brings in freddie the fly...he makes you feel like you are in kindergarden, but dang if he didn't help me remeber impossible things for the tests. Hass has great explainations for some of the more complex material, and she makes you laugh all during the class. Hey, bio and comedy...NOT BAD!!!!
everyone else in the class got a C but me... i got a B. easy to understand, but very hard to get to, ie. not a very formidable personality. avoid her if u can, but if u have to take her, make sure u pay attention in class & have an interest in the subject... which would be a miracle for ANY college class
I would not recommend her. She is not very personnable unless you show interest in her research. Make sure you don't have any family emergencies, illnesses, or other legitimate issues as she could care less about that. Lectures are ok, exams are very picky so study hard but avoid her as a professor if you can.
I took Haas for bio 101 as a freshman. The class is great for people just starting college. Cell Bio is not that bad either, just a little harder. She is kind and has a good personality. Friendly too. Just study your notes and anyone will do okay.
she nice, but she skips lots of classes...all tests are from notes...she treats us like were in kg, but on the test BAM!...yeah...
She treats us like little kids...she talked about potatoes and jello and freddy the fly. She sometimes yells for no apparent reason. She's always busy and she never grades her tests on time. She can also be boring at times...
I guess compared to the other teachers that offer cell bio she might be your best bet, but the tests are extremely hard, all the study guides are from previous years books and not everything lines up the way shed want it too. The tests are extremely picky, on our last test after she curved it 4% of the class got As
even though her class is OK, i wouldn't recommend her. tests are hard and she focusus more on her notes than the book (why did i spend $400 on it then?). take her if you have to, but her examples are often confusing and lame.
She teaches well and keeps the class way less boring than it could be
YOU EITHER GET HER OR YOU DONT!! THE CLASS IS USUALLY DIVIDED, HALF GET 100'S THE OTHERS FAIL...VERY WEIRD METHOD OF TEACHING, TRIES TO DUMB IT DOWN FOR YOU WHILE MAKING IT MORE CONFUSING THAN ANYTHING. USES OLDER HAND OUTS THAT ARE INCOMPLETE AND MISLEADING COMPARED TO THE BOOK. 3 MC TESTS VERY CONFUSING AND ANSWER CHOICES ARE OFTEN WRONG.
Easiest cell bio teacher there is. Her tests are like 50 MC's whereas other teachers are Essay and short answer. Tests are still hard...but its way better than writing an essay about a mitochondria! -- I'd recommend...Oh yeah, I hear she's a **** too. That's cool with me though.
She a really nice lady but I wish she would enter the 21st century and use powerpoints. all i can tell you TAKE GOOD NOTES read the book and do the review sheets you can't get by withough studying but if you try you'll do fine
she's a good teacher.uses some lame examples, but she's still a nice lady. tests are based of lectures and review sheets. use the study guide and go to class and take notes and you'll do fine
difficult class, i liked her better as a lab professor. very nasty attitude sometimes
She seems like a nice enough person and is always willing to answer questions but her teaching style is sloppy, unclear and commonly conflicts with the text book. I would recommend recording her lectures because she really jumps around a lot and her tests are all multiple choice and very tricky, and confusing and I usual love MC. good luck
She's give motivative remarks in class so that you'll want to learn more. She is ready and always on top of things. Her exams reflects her lectures and her assignments. Although I didn't do as good as I hope, she's good to have.
Sometimes I wonder if she even likes being in class cause we always get out early, not that it's a problem, but she emits this feeling that she doesn't feel like teaching. Otherwise, she's awesome. Class is a breeze.
Ok..Everyone.this is goin to be a very unbiased view. If you want to pass this class..TAKE GOOD NOTE and RECORD HER LECTURE.ALL her questions are from LECTURES This class is a very difficult class.but I think her test are fair(IF YOU DONT MISS HER CLASS). Questions are very tricky but fair. .Overall, a great teacher. pls dont miss any class.
Lab Techniques is an easy class and good for bio credit. get ready to do eveything on ur own tho...shes VERY unorganized and confuses u when u ask her questions. Had her for cell bio too and in that class she jumps around a lot! be prepared to write everything she says b/c it will be on the test
She explains everything in class so going to class is a must!!! The book is good for reference but thats it. The art book she recommends is way more helpful since she refers to the figures alot. The tests aren't easy but not impossible just make sure you take good motes bc thats what the tests are on.
Easy easy class. She gives you study guides which basically tell you all that you need to know for the tests. Be there for the lectures because the tests are based on them a lot as well. Attaining an A is highly possible.
Pretty easy, just study class notes and study guide, and that's all you need to know. Exams are a bit tricky, but overall, it's not too bad.
We are told from day one that "the tests is based on lecture notes" and "use the study guides." Then there were things on the study guide that were not in the notes, and things on the test that were not in the book as far as I can tell. AVOID Dr Haas IF YOU CAN. PLEASE NOTE- I am NOT one of those students who did poorly and blames the professor.
Go to class, record the lectures, and you will be golden. DO NOT MISS CLASS. Missing even one will hurt your test score. If you attend her lectures, the exams are easy and fair.
i have to agree with the previous posts. attendance is mandatory for a good grade. her exams cover material from her lectures, and it is important to take good notes, and record lectures if possible.
i took two of her classes and didn't do as well as i thought i would but she's a really cool professor and all...her lecture seems simple and starightforward but when it comes to her quiz and test studying everything is the key
The class requires alot of studying, but she does not make the tests too hard. Make sure to study the diagrams and remember details like names of things, etc. Take good notes bc she bases the whole tests off of them. I would definitely recommend taking Haas for cell bio.
Class is EXTREMELY easy, especially if you have a science background. Even if you don't its easy. She leaves class a lot when we do grp work. Tests are easy. She is very disorganized though. Dumbs things down a lot. Lots of group work. She can be funny and weird.
She is very helpful, and she makes biology fun ;D
probably one of the better cell bio teachers. attendance with good notes is really necessary to pull off an A, but if you do that, the tests will be easy. recording the lectures also helps you out A LOT because most of her questions come directly from the lectures. she's not too helpful though when you go in for help.
Record the lectures. Class seems easy but tests are random and hard. Attend class if you want a chance at doing well. If you dont attend class, you might as well kiss your A goodbye.
She is very helpful and very intelligent. Tests are OK. If you record her lecture, you will do pretty well on exams. Don't focus much on books. Attend every lectures and you will do well.
The problem with this class is that its almost like "below her". I've heard that if you have her in an upper level class shes great but not so good in lower levels. The lectures are so unorganized. I basically just wait for the study guide and figure it all out by myself before the test. Going to class does nothing for me but attendance is required
Lab Techniques is an interesting class. I really enjoyed it. There are quizzes, Midterm and a Final. The Final is kind of challenging. If you want to learn how to properly use laboratory equipment.. take the class :):):)
This is the Cell Bio to take. Her tests are mainly multiple choice with about 10 fill in the blanks/SHORT answer. Almost all of the material comes from her lectures. Of course reading the book will help, but i dont think its necesary. 4 tests worth 25% each. Last test not cumulative. Ask her for extra credit on the last test. Taking good notes=A
She is one of the worst professors I've ever had. Doesn't explain anything in class and is very confusing. The book doesnt help cuz she claims that exams are based on lecture. I put in a lot of effort and got a C. She is terrible and not helpful at all. Recording lecture is good idea if u plan on listening to her for 12 hours at home. Avoid her.
Bio 210: You and your lab mates will spend 2 hours each week in front of your glassware trying to make sense of what she rattled off at the beginning of class. The semester's written materials consist of five sparse, not-very-well-written handouts, and no textbook. **Definitely** record her lectures; it will pay dividends on quiz/exam day.
Was super excited for the class seemed like a great prof until it got to things i didn't know from HS. She forgets what she teaches to which class, uses picture overheads, no notes, won't admit she is wrong. Horrible professor. I had to drop after i worked my a** off.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER IF YOU WANT YOUR G.P.A. TO BE RUINED! STAY AWAY! TESTS ARE HORRIBLE AND THERE IS NO CURVE
Love her. I recorded the lectures and typed them out for an A. Tests are based on lecture notes, the book was supplemental for me. She doesn't make a whole lot of sense sometimes and uses silly examples but she's funny and I learned a lot from her. Work hard and she'll make you love the subject.
Very nice lady...kind of unorganized with her lectures but other then that she does eventually get to the concepts...even though it sometimes is the day before the actual exam. RECORD HER LECTURES!!! very helpful outside of class. Overall challenging "A" but an easy "B".
Hardest bio teacher, do not take if you cant afford a C.
She teaches alright if you enjoy following notes and powerpoints, but for a science class it should be the book. I would not recommend, I've read daily and I have a C. :(
GPA killer
I find sciences classes DRAG. Yet her lecturing style keeps me interested. Which is a must considering she picks questions from her NOTES only. Only need the book to look at figures.I dont read the chapter, look over the notes the week of the test and have a B+ going into the final (non cumulative)! RECORD HER LECTURESSSSS!
These reviews are right on, you MUST record her lectures if you want an A or a B, for 1st exam I studied a ton & got a C, then started recording her lectures and got As on the last 3. Good teaching style. Doesn't respond to emails.
If you want to pass then go to class everyday and record all her lectures. Shes kind of unorganized and just uses figures to teach so if you're not recording her notes you better write fast. The book is useless so you can't really teach yourself because every test is based off of her lectures. Some people liked her, I found her confusing, but funny.
Tips: 1. record her lectures 2. keep notes on figures 3. study hard especially for the first exam (aminoacids, handouts etc). Lectures are interesting!
GREAT PROF. DO NOT MISS any LECTURE. DO TAKE NOTES and USE THEM. Recording her lecture is not necessary but it will help you a lot if you miss info. here and there. 3 exams and 1 final. Try to get into some BIG class (around 60-80 students)and she may CURVE the EXAM. EASY A if you put in efforts that you should for any SCIENCE class. (cont ... )
(..cont)First exam is kind of review of Gen. Bio.So try to get as many pts as you can on it. Other exams are not hard too. Each exam is 50 pts. No multiple choices. All blanks and some short answers. NO Cumulative exams. Exams 3 and 4 (final) emphasizes more on PATHWAYS and cycles which we need to memorize. But still EASY A if you put in effort. :)
Best science teacher at Loyola. She explains everything very clearly. She writes on the board, talks, and refers to figures. NEED to record lectures. I never read the book, just used to study the figures she mentioned in class.Memorize the notes, and I promise you can get nothing less then an A.Ppl saying that she is bad, obviously didnt got to class
Dr. Haas is a wonderful cutsy professor, who knows her subject. Listening to her lectures are like listening to an interesting story from a grandmother. Recording is a must; study the figures and the handouts she gives. I would love to take her class again.
She doesn't teach cell bio well. You can get away with an A without learning the subject. How can you get an A? Record the lectures, write down notes well, and memorize both well. That's all you need. Reading the book is a waste of time, as far as the exam goes. You can get an A, but won't learn cell bio.
tests come directly from what she lectures. book is a complete waste to use. i studied for days and read over my notes word for word and didn't even do that well on her test. since it is not MC, she is pretty picky about your answers. she looks for specificity, and isn't very lenient if you are "close" to the answer - so no partial credit at all.
Childish. Judgmental. You memorize instead of studying. She judges students unfairly. Not a class for serious students. However, if you belong to those who don't care about knowledge but good MCAT score then it's your choice. It's easy to 'do well' (get an A) but u feel cheated since in reality you don't know anything. Cheers.
WORST TEACHER. Makes the course seem extremely easy at the beginning, but them slams you on the first test with a ton of information never taught. Class is pointless, avoid if possible!
terrible. very condescending and rude. class is pointless. We talk about absolutely nothing. She is said to be an idiot. The only time i learned was during student presentations
Haas is the worst teacher at Loyola. Walking in I thought class would be easy. NO this is a class were u have to teach yourself, and the material in the book is not on the exam. She is unorganized, there was supposed to be 2 exams but she did not teach the class so we had 1 midterm and 1 take home exam. 2 presentations and 2 hw grades, DO NOT TAKE
Fantastic teacher. Always ends class early and gives you only the information that you need. She applies Cell Bio to the human body to help students out for med school and the MCAT. Great lecturer, textbook is not needed at all. 3 exams and a non cumulative final. A very easy class and you learn a lot!!
Exams r relatively easy. She made them harder bcoz she found out ppl passed arnd her exam and a lot of ppl were getting As. Shows photos and talks about them so record her lectures and memorize them and also do the study guide, that is all the exams are about.3 exams + final. 5 point extra credit on the final.
I wish every taught like her. Great teacher but you will have to record since a lot of important details are mentioned vaguely
Haas is a great professor. Of course, the class isn't easy, it's cell bio, but if you go to lecture, take notes on EVERYTHING she says, and study hard, you will definitely get an A.
Boring class. If you learn best by taking notes and listening to lectures, it would probably be good for you, but I could barely stay awake. Pretty much all fill-in-the-blank/short answer. Even if a question is unclear, she won't hear a word against it. Still, it's a fairly easy class. If you want an A, you have to go to class and take good notes.
This is my second class with her and I have to say, I cannot stand this woman. Her own instructions confuse her and then she gets irritated when asked for clarification. We had two grades back before we took the final, so we knew about 40% of what made up our final grade by then. She tests on the most minute details, so write EVERYTHING down.
Good teacher that explains well. Just attend class, take notes, and you will do well. I have taken two classes with Professor Haas and can say that you need to be willing to learn to do well.
Make sure you do REALLY well on the first test because it is by far the easiest. BUY and use a recorder, it helps a lot to re-listen to the lectures when going over the study guide. Four tests, non cumulative each 25%. Start studying for the test a week in advance, she doesn't like it when you ask her questions after class.
all of her test questions come from her study guide. all of the answers to the study guide come from what she says in lecture. there is no easy way out--YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS because the power points are just a bunch of pictures and she has their descriptions in her head. record lectures. it's all about memorization.
Class is ok. use a recorder and go to office hours. do the study guides, tests come straight from those. old exams floating out there, don't use them, she changes format. she is very helpful in office. take her.
She is a great professor!! She's a kind lady with a great personality. She loves biology and wants to teach. 3 exams and she does NOT drop the lowest. 1 final. She uses mastering biology but it allows 5 attempts and still gives you full credit (Saves your grade) TAKE DR HAAS. overall good class.
She says you have to come to class to do well on exams, lectures on ppts (mostly pictures) need to write down what she says. Exams are 3/4 multiple choice & 1/4 fill in the blank or true/false + correct it. pretty difficult, somewhat confusing. need to know the concepts and be able to apply them. Mastering bio hw, 4 exams, non cummulative. meh
I'll be straight up with this teacher. You don't have to attend class cause what she discusses is straight from the powerpoint. She is not lenient with mastering biology and YOU have to check everyday if it's up or not. Tests are tricky even though topic is simple. She is not a good teacher since she does squat in trying to help raise your grade..
Nicest lady. Most grades are based on hw and presentations that everyone gets As on. HOWEVER, her tests are super tricky. Not a blow off class, you have to actually study.
Quizzes are from study guides but get harder as you go, so do well on the first one! Go to class and record lectures! Final is 50% of your grade, other 50% is quizzes/group work. She is very nice and it's an easy B-/B. I would definitely recommend her. (I took her over the Summer.)
I wasn't sure what she was teaching. Exams were super hard. If you study notes, you get a d or c. If you study text book, notes and guide thoroughly, you will get an a.
Took her for Cell Bio over the summer and the class was really okay, considering it's cell bio. Dr. Haas emphasized what we needed to know clearly, and you really have to study hard for the quizzes coz they're 10% of your grade and the final is 50% of your whole grade. Overall, study all her notes, record lec, read assigned stuff, you'll be fine.
You will get a b if you study. If you need an a, study a lot like lotttttttt
Study Guides, helpful power points. Tests are fair
She's really really really boring. Literally just read off the powerpoints. It's weird. some classes are super easy while some are really hard. It's not easy to get a good grade, and she's somewhat indifferent to your concerns. However, she's kinda nice, so...
She's actually a pretty decent professor. I thought she was almost to easy because she basically tells you what is on her tests.. Make sure to go to discussion and do online HW. Class was a breeze. Always felt confident on tests. However, lecture can be a bit boring, but doable.
Haas is a very interesting teacher. She is very engaging and her lectures are very fun. However, in order to get a good grade in the class you need to study from everything: mastering bio, notes, powerpoint, record lectures, and go to discussion! Going to discussion is very helpful and most of what we do is on the test, so I recommend it.
Kind of all over the place with things. Says to study power points for quizzes/tests, but half the stuff isn't on them. Doesn't really stick to the syllabus and does a ton of group projects, so if you aren't a fan of group work, don't take this class. Lots of busy work like high school. Not easy to get an A, but if you work, it's doable. Nice lady.
Not a bad class. Fairly easy to follow along with in class, but a lot easier if you read the book. She tells you not to rely on the book but if you don't read the chapters you won't do well on exams. Read the book sections about topics covered in class very carefully and you'll do well.
She is the worst teacher I ever had. She is not clear on any of her assignments or tests. She's rude and on her tests she sometimes puts 2 right answers yet she's only "looking for the one she wanted"... Like we can read her mind. She'll even admit that the answer was right. Worst teacher. Don't take her. Ever. Run.
She gets off topic a lot but to be honest she's really not a bad teacher at all. If her class happens to be at a good time for your schedule, yes take her. Her class isn't something to stress out over
I had professor Haas in 101. I really liked her because she always uses power points in her lectures, which I found it very helpful. She has 3 exams and doesn't have a final. Also, her tests only include the stuff that we either covered in class or in the power points. She gives study guides for each chapter, attendance is not mandatory,no quizzes.
Dr. Haas can be confusing at times, but if you ask questions before, during, or after class she's more then willing to help you with anything. She even rechecked my test when I didn't fill in the bubbles and just wrote it on the test part and gave my full credit for the ones I got right. Her lectures are easy to follow and I would take her again
Haas is awesome for Biol 101. Her tests were pretty easy provided that you studied. You should definitely read the book if you want to do well. Lectures are from the powerpoints but it helps to go. Mastering biology is a life saver and really helps you understand the material. So look at that for exams as well.
Amazing teacher. For my bio class she said reading the book wasn't mandatory because all of her test questions come from her powerpoints. If you memorize her powerpoints from start to finish you will get a 100% on the tests. No trick questions, all super straight forward. Would recommend to everyone.
Dr. Haas is such a great teacher! Literally the easiest class. Just study the powerpoints (the book isn't needed at all), and you will be golden for the exams. She's really clear on what she wants and is willing to help. She is also really friendland uses real life examples that we can all relate to, to understand the material.
Excellent professor! She is extremely knowledgable and entertaining in a quirky biochemist sort of way. Put in the work, and by the end of the course you will have a great foundation in Biology to take with you into future classes.
I definitely thought that I was doing well in her class until after the first two exams. The first two exams are scantron then all of a sudden it is free-write. She's really funny in class. I feel that she downplays the easiness of the class. Go over the Mastering Bio homework until you know it by heart before taking the exams. It will save ur life
really nice woman, she makes a lot of real life analogies to help you understand certain material. Starts with basics, works at a medium pace..
I wouldn't recommend taking her class She's nice, and tells you to just focus on the lecture slides, but I learned after the first exam to not do that! Her slides are nothing compared to the amount of detail she expects you to know on your own. Her tests are tough! Never got more than an 80 on all 3! Class is boring. There are better professors.
Great professor! She made this class a lot easier by providing many life examples. She's very inspirational and approachable, so she'll definitely be a teacher you can go to for help!
Haas was my favorite professor of freshman year, she made everything very simple and clear. Mastering was only an 80% for a 100 in homework. Her tests were EXTREMELY easy if you took AP Bio. An A is doable for sure. She explains everything thoroughly in class and makes learning basic bio fun. If you miss less than 5 classes she gives extra credit.
She's by far my favorite professor here espeically for biology. Her tests are not bad at all as long as you keep up with the notes in lecture and mastering bio. Shes so adorable and is actually pretty funny. No surprises.
Her lectures are so easy to understand, she explains everything by giving real life examples. All of her tests are easy multiple choice and her questions are based on what she says in class, so pay attention to what she says. She is clearly really inspired by Biology which will make you like the class.
So funny! Uses power points for lectures that she posts on Sakai the day before. Recommend you bring them to take notes on. She does lecture a lot but if you go to class and study from the power points, you're fine. She also gives extra credit at the end of the semester for not missing class (2% of total grade). Great teacher overall.
best professor ever. she makes every topic so easy to understand. tests are easy if you study the powerpoints and go over the mastering bio hw. shes so cute and funny i definitely recommend taking her!
Haas' lab tests are so hard. A lot of the questions are "what is this organism" so you basically have to memorize everything in the lab manual and everything in the powerpoints and labs. Hard to get an A but I'm sure its possible. I didn't get the hang of her style until the 3rd exam, and by that point it was too late to improve my grade enough.
Amazing
Very friendly professor! Her tests are easy to do well in if you attend her class and study. I would recommend printing off her powerpoint before class and taking notes on them in class as she goes over the slides. Only buy the online access for the textbook. Quizzes and tests she gives good study guides that are really helpful.
She's so nice and funny! Her power points are online but she some things you need to know she says out loud and aren't on the slide so pay attention in class. A lot of questions on her quizzes/tests come right off of her study guides(most proffs dont make SG). Also, if you miss less than 4 classes, she adds 2% to your final grade! She rounds too!
TAKE HER. Best decision you will make!
Amazing teacher with a great sense of humor. She is very nice and makes lecture easily digestible. It is not a boring lecture and the exams a questions are straight from the study guides and quiz. She basically gives you an A as long as you do the homework and takes notes in lecture.
I had this Professor for my semester at Loyola. She has 4 total exams including the final. Her exam format is amazing and she tries to make it as easy. I needed help a lot of times and she went out of her way to help me out. Mastering Bio is a must because its worse 10%, as long as you do them you will receive full points. Loved this teacher 100%
Dr. Haas is an amazing professor. She was a biochemistry major, so she does a great job of integrating the chemistry and biology curriculum. All her tests and quizzes are based off the PowerPoints, so the people that never come to class often do poorly on them. She is very funny and tries to make the material as engaging as possible.
Dr. Haas is a gem. Such a caring professor. Lectures can get boring but she's very fair and wants you to do well. Come to class because quizzes and tests are ALL from lecture, no need to buy/read the book. Pay attention, take notes and you will be set.
Barb is an amazing teacher and absolutely hilarious. She makes a lot of jokes in class and tries to make the class as easy to understand as possible. Her powerpoint are available on Sakai and they cover all of the material needed for her exams. Don't even bother getting the book, she makes it easy to learn without it.
Dr. Haas was my favorite professor this semester. Her exams and quizzes are not difficult, as long as you study. She is kind and wants all of her students to succeed! There is a reason why her classes fill up so fast! Take Dr. Haas!!!
Dr. Haas is such an amazing professor! Make sure you go to class because exams and quizzes are based off lecture. The book isn't needed to study! She explains the material in a way that's easy to understand and is hilarious and so sweet! An all around gem
Dr. Haas is amazing. You have quizzes scattered around the semester and 4 exams. There is a group project at the end of the semester which counts as 20% of your final exam. Overall, great.
Dr. Haas is the cutest lady ever. She tells you exactly what to expect for each test and provides review sheets for each chapter that contains many of the questions on the tests and quizzes. She is really funny and super sweet, I would highly recommend taking Dr. Haas.
Haas gives extra credit if you miss less than four classes and always announces when quizzes and exams are. She doesn't assign much homework. You don't really need the book, as exams are based on her lectures. She tends to get off topic easily, but it is usually funny.
She is a great professor! She makes everything so simple and straightforward. She uses a lot of real world comparisons which helps a lot with remembering the material. Her exams are slightly harder than you would expect but if you study youll be fine. Shes funny and very approachable!
Powerpoints only have pictures. Covers more in class than what is on tests so you dont know what to study. She suggested I tape her so i dont miss details and now I have to go home and write down every word she says, memorize it, and i still got a 70 on the test. Not organized. Some test topics not covered. Not sure why she got good reviews.
All over the place. You never know what to exactly expect on the tests. There was always a lot of questions: A, B, C, A & C, all of the above which can be very confusing.
Don't take Haas unless you want to only have lectures on random African countries and animals!! The tests are ridiculous, requiring you to memorize specific species instead of major facts. She focuses on minor things and forgets to lecture on what is actually important and relevant. I always do well in sciences, but her trivia tests are impossible.
Dr. Haas is not specific during class. She puts questions on the exam that you can not find in the slides. She goes in depth with her exam questions and the answers cant even be googled. I took her expecting it to be easy and meaningful to my education and it was the exact opposite.
Dr. Haas's tests are hard. She puts questions on that were never talked about. Slides have little info. Tests have questions such as A,B,A&C, none or all of the above. She goes over either too much or too little in lectures. Not sure why she has good reviews because everyone in my lecture has gotten bad grades on her exams. Do not take.
She just reads off her powerpoints which are typically just diagrams-hardly any information so you gotta listen to lectures. She just goes off on tangents about different animals and countries which are pointless. Exams have information we never went over. Don't use the textbook. Extra point on your final grade for good attendance.
Dr. Haas is amazing! I definitely recommend her for anyone without much of a biology background, her lectures are fantastic and her tests and quizzes are directly based off of her powerpoints. Phenomenal professor, you'll love her!
Dr. Haas initially seemed like a very organized and supportive professor. However, things quickly went down hill. I felt like she prepared the class very well for exam #1, yet ever since exam #1 ended most of her class seems a bit confused on what exactly is going on and seem lost with the material and confused with random info on exams
I decided to take Dr. Haas because I heard so many good things about her as a respected teacher. This class has been the most difficult science class I have taken here at Loyola. Everyone in my class is struggling and it seems as the semester goes on it just is getting worse. I would not recommend taking this class unless you really have to.
Very overhyped. The first two units are horrible but then it starts to get more interesting. Get ready to memorize species of antelope and fun facts about them. She's ok. There are better bio teachers.
The class is very disorganized. She tells us that everything on the test comes from the power point, but they're mostly just picture so it's hard to follow. She'll post mastering bio assignments without telling you. Gives review guides, but sometimes there will still be content on the test that was NEVER discussed.
Tough class.
Haas is an awesome woman, she makes the material relatable. Having her at 8 am wasn't bad at all, her lectures seem long some days and short others. She teaches really fast so I recommend typing them straight onto the powerpoint. The tests are taken directly from lecture and the powerpoints. If you study it is a do-able A, the quizzes kinda suck.
I really enjoyed Dr. Haas. She made the class enjoyable and manageable. There is no point in reading the textbook because everything you need to know is on the powerpoints. Her powerpoints are also very clear- things I didnt fully understand in AP Bio I understoood in Dr. Haas class. If you study efficiently for the tests, you will get an A!
Took this class during the summer session (6 weeks)- she was engaging in her lectures and all the exams came from her powerpoints, quizzes, and worksheets. Didn't even need to buy the book.
I love Dr. Haas but her lectures are sometimes hard to understand but her SI helps a lot if you go to their sessions. You definitely don't need to buy the textbook she NEVER uses it. She's funny and her lectures go by pretty quickly. If you don't study or show up to class you won't pass.
