she's never satisfied with essays but gives you lots of chances to bring them up
No Comments
fun teacher, serious about class...makes learnig worthwhile
very creative w/ her assignments and openminded
nice lady. good teacher. kept things fun
No Comments
Very structured
Very sweet and easy to talk to
Is very kind and easy to talk to. She's interested in improvement. Hard Work!
Politics in class=BAD; but excellent teacher otherwise. :)
lots of papers and don't get on her bad side, she can be mean if she wants to
Very easy and interesting
Great teacher. Funny and interesting.
Very nice and funny...lots of papers and writing-if you have time to put into writing papers you'll be fine.
Very rude... not willing to help when need it... walks away when talking to you... a lot of work... hard grader...nothing is good enough!!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
I really enjoyed Dr. Bass's class. She is a tough grader but give lots of easy homework to help cushion your grade. I did not get A's on all my essays and still got an A in the class. Class discussions are fun and enjoyable.
Easy grader. Participate and she will look kindly on that. Portfolio allows you to coninually work on things so you can get a better grade in the end. Follow her syllabus and you won't have a problem.
Dr. Bass is a space cadet. Gives lots of essays but they're not hard as long as you read the books. A very nice person, but fails to adequately answer students' questions.
lots of work.. but a page every day 14font. not too hard if you maintain. stickler for grammar, very nice in class... but not out of it
she is a great teacher...little spacy at times but other than that she is great! gives time to make up missed homework...easy grader and essays arent that hard.
one thing to remember is always work hard and corect your papers for any errors, thats the main grade and do the stupid homework, if you those two things, you could a B or an A, her politics can be offensive to the conservative
One of the best, if not the best teacher I have ever had. Very interesting and clear.
This lady is absolutely Amazing.
one of the nicest professors i've ever had. there's a lot of reading and writing... but it's an english class and that's how it's supposed to be.
She's so annoyingly strict when it comes to attendance. She doesn't let you expand your writing to fit any other mold than the cookie cutter. Lots of essays and busy work...don't take her unless you wanna go nuts.
OH yea!! take this class, she is one of those teachers that does the work with you. She is always available and helpful with understanding your papers. Has a open mind and loves insight. No tests, just revisions and final copies. Very nice and organized
Dr. Bass is a wonderful woman. I enjoyed her class a lot. There is a lot of homework writings, but they are only one page arial 14 point font. On top of that, there are about 5 essays. I definitely learned a lot in her class. Take her!
Strange lady...one of the toughest english graders i have ever had. I feel my papers should have had higher grades thatn i got. no exams...all take home papers. written homeworks every night. most class periods were a waste of time.
I was not interested in the material for the class, but I still put an effort into the class. As a straight A student I felt as though I did not deserve a C on every single paper i wrote! She doesn't let you rewrite them either.
The biggest **** and the worst teacher ever! She picks favorites.
shes such a great lady. she grades rather hard, i got c's, but i did all the hw assignments and overall i want her to be my grandma. Shes so motherly, sort of reminds me of a kindergarten teacher. If you dont mind simple assignments due every class, take her, its a nice class to go high to. hah
fav teacher and fav class of the semester!! interesting, passionate abt Lit, funny, and very nice. does grade pretty hard, and there a lot of assignments due but they're not hard ones. (sometimes too simple & become annoying) no tests or exams! gives lots of extra credit. hope i get her again.
Nice lady, no tests, just papers that aren't that hard. Very liberal and politically correct and sometimes has a problem seeing your point of view, but it's alright. Take her.
Not bad, as said below, she's very liberal and has difficulty understanding your point of view. Very nice person that wants to expand your writing. However, I took this class not only for the credit, but to improve how I write, and I don't think I did that in this class. eye dont right good, lol.
I recommend Dr. Bass! There's a lot of (easy) writing. I got c's on all my papers but that's my fault. She makes the class interesting by her enthusiasm. My first english class that I have enjoyed.
She is nice. This is not a stressful class at all. She lets you turn in assignments late, and there's no pressure to participate. She does have a strict attendance policy and she grades harshly. There's homework almost every day, but it is not hard, just annoying. Take this teacher though.
Takes attendance, and particular about grammar... but it is an ENGLISH class, so that is to be expected. Easy homework and lots of grades and extra credit. Some work for an A, VERY easy B. Very nice woman and a great teacher! She is very hard core liberal and teaches that way, but its ignorable.
One of the nicest professors at TU. Make sure you only miss 2 or fewer classes. She is a very nice lady. Don't know how I got an A in her class but she was awesome.
The papers were a pain in the ass. Will ask more of your writing but be unspecific about it. Nice lady but doesn't seem too accepting of other points of view.
Easy assignments, however she grades har don essays and isn't very clear when she grades them. Seems to pick favourites among students. Lectures consist of her rambling on about nothing and passing picturebooks around class. Is this kindergarten?
there is a lot of hw but its easy, the essays arent tough but she doesnt seem to open to your point of views, class is boring! she takes attendance, she will freak out if you have to go to the bathroom during class or leave for any reason! i still dont understand her grading its very odd and doesnt make sense.. but not a hard course.
i personally hate her becasue i think she didnt like me for no reason but the class its self is pretty easy shes reallllly boring and she does freak out if you get up in class read the books and the essays will be a cake
Perhaps the most worthless teacher I've ever had. She treats the students like they are children (picturebooks, classes devoted to essay-writing and re-iterates common knowledge). Classes are boring and she takes off GRADE LEVELS after 2 missed absences. Her shoes are hysterical, though.
One of the most caring professors here. Requirements of students laid out clearly in well organized syllabus (goes day by day). Mixes up class with lecture and group work. Fun class and cares about your opinions. Allows for creative flexibility. Willing to help and genuinely cares about students. I feel as if I could go to her for anything.
really nice, gives lots of extra credit for easy things (ex: knowing everyones name in the class)..lots of writing but its short (2-3 pages arial 14 font double spaced)..would definately take again
one reads many great authors in this class, but the work is all high school level. i felt like i was back in eigth grade during the discussions sometimes. prof is really nice and interested in the students ideas, which is great. the standards for the class just aren't at a university level... easy A if you do all the little response assignments.
Excellent Class. The books we read were so interesting. This class was by far my favorite this semester. Take her.
EASY class. she's such a nice lady. you write a lot of essays - but they are about yourself. old memories, family stories, happy moments, etc, so it isn't even hard. no research needed in this class. no tests. no quizzes. you turn in a big portfolio at the end which is 50% of your grade but she allows you to submit many revisions to her. TAKE HER!!
personally, i HATE HATE HATE this class, the professor treats us like we are 6 or 7 and is very cryptic when grading essays, which there are a lot of. the good thing is assignments can be handed in late without penalty
Terrible professor...grading policies are ridiculous...she gives grades partially on how much she likes you(no lie).
I LOVE her and her class. She is very nice and funny, and she gives prompts that are interesting to write about. The class is very easy as far as getting a good grade, yet if you pay attention and listen to her advice, you will learn a lot about writing creative nonfiction. Definitely take her.
She is such a sweet lady. Very liberal and fun-loving. Class required a lot of reading and homework basically every night, but not bad at all. 5 "big" (3-5 page) essays. Lots of in-class discussions so always have something to say, and tough attendance policy. Just don't skip the class and you're golden!
If you like writing and creativity, TAKE THIS COURSE! She is a very good teacher when it comes to creative writing and creative nonfiction. She'll use the text book for a little while. No exams, just papers, but they're not bad at all. But again, you have to love writing to appreciate this course. She's helpful and approachable as well. Take her!
This is the best and most enjoyable class I have ever taken in 4 years at Towson. There is reading and a short reflection almost every night and 3 main essays (no exams). It sounds like a lot, but it just isn't. She was able to spur my interest in American history and liturature, which is hard to do. You learn a lot from her. She's amazing!
Dr. Bass is such a nice woman! Classes got more interesting as the semester went on & she started digressing more. Getting into groups all the time can be annoying, but the class itself is a lot of fun. She is ALWAYS offering extra credit, and really encourages students to write how they feel and write it well. Her class made me an English major!
Pretty easy class and she's a very nice lady. 5 essays all year and frequent homework assignments, but no real exams. Lots of poetry involved which you discuss in class. Gave extra credit and helped out everyone. Attendance is pretty mandatory and part of your grade but class goes by very fast. Take her.
terrible terrible terrible professor. treats students as if they were in elementary school. very vague grading policies on essays. does not help if she does not like u. heavily plays favorites. no late penalty which is good! only take if you like writing.
You really have to love writing... about yourself to take this class. Attendance is mandatory and part of your grade. She gives you ample opportunities to correct your essays to get a better grade to submit in a portfolio at the end of the year. I did minimal work and got an A- as compared to others who worked just as hard for an A-.
3 words: terrible terrible terrible!. plays favorites like crazy and then grades accordingly. very very unclear and not helpful if you ask for help on essays. treats students like they are toddlers. overall terrible class, do not take!!!
I will never take a class with Dr.Bass again. She is a nice lady but her grading policy SUCKS.I do believe she plays favorites and is extremely unclear about her grading policy. She is unclear of what she wants in her essays. She has one direction on the syllabus but grades completely different.Nice lady but I am not a fan!!
All essay assignments- no exams. Tremendous amount of writing though, equivalent of 50 typed pages total. If you have solid writing skills and do your homework, you will get an A or B. Very nice lady, able to keep a dull subject pretty interesting. She doesn't tolerate texting or eating though, so be respectful, otherwise she'll pick on you :P
Ok for me, this class wasn't too bad. I took it as an alt. to history for a gened and am glad I did. There is a lot of writing (5 big essays evenly spaced) and an easy reflection paper on a reading every night. If you're a decent writer, you'll get an A (sparknotes helps) No tests, but must apply yourself in class. Helpful prof
Professor Bass is an extremely easy grader. I wrote all my essays a day to an hour before they were due. The only annoying thing is that she gets behind in her syllabus. Classes seemed pointless after awhile, and the homework is answering questions about the stories you read. easy class, but kind of annoying.
I hated this class. I will never take a class with Dr. Bass ever again. We did not receive one grade all year until our final grade was posted. We had no idea as to what our grade was all semester.
Class is easy, but pointless. Take her for Honors Writing Seminar because you won't have to do much besides write about yourself. This class sounded a lot better than some of the regular freshman writing classes. She doesn't grade throughout the semester, so that was annoying in addition to the fact that she never seems satisfied with your drafts.
The class is pretty easy. Just do the responses every day and follow the instructions she gives you for essays. She comes off strict at first, but she's a nice woman. My only issues are that she is a little too easy and that the class could easily be taught online. Class time is just discussion of the homework.
Dr. Bass is a great instructort and will help you to become a much better writer if you try. To succeed in her class you must put forth the initiative. Stay on top of the syllabus and do not procrastinate.
I really enjoyed taking professor Bass' class. She is really sweet & very helpful. There are a lot of assignments however, homework due everyday. There are about 6 essays, 2 of them are easy but she grades pretty fairly. Ask for help with essays! She gave 2 extra credit options. She does get off track quite a bit, but shes really good!
Dr. Bass is awesome! I loved her class. It does take some time, lots of reading and the essays are in depth.
A lot of my friends did not likeher, but I find her to be a nice lady. She has some odd rules (doesn't like when people say "bless you") but class isn't bad. I looked forward to her classes, and her papers were fun to write because they were personal essays. Follow her instructions and you'll be fine. 4 long essays, a few shorter ones, no tests!
She's really nice. Class was always a joy. She got off topic a lot but it was fun. Class time is used for in class discussion over the readings which are daily homework assignments (3/4 page summary) so READ. Tough grader on papers ! Go to the writing center and get feedback from her first ! Very helpful ! I learned a lot !
Grading was completely based on her personal opinion instead of the essays themselves. Most of the class time was spent trying to figure out her syllabus because she was always confused and lost. She doesn't give any actual, recorded grades until the final so you don't know how to do anything. Most of the work is editing her personal essays. AVOID
HORRIBLE in every way possible. avoid at all costs.
I took Professor Bass's online English class. She was okay. Gave a lot of busy work. 4 essays; not too bad.
DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS! Her instructions are not clear and she gets very angry when you e-mail her questions. There is way too much busy work and she's a hard grader. I do not recommend her.
Not a huge fan of Dr. Bass. Her online class is very difficult, with a ton of work. You have to make VERY sure to keep on top of it. She's very strict. She's a hard grader, and is not very welcoming of questions. Her instructions aren't very clear, either.
I am not a fan of this lady. Her instructions are terrible, her feedback is useless, and she does not like to be asked questions. I would not recommended this lady unless you have endless hours to spend trying to understand what she wants.
The WORST teacher I've ever had. I have always received in A's in my English classes--never had a problem. She's the worst instructor ever. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. I wish I dropped this class a while ago.
Dr. Bass was great! There was some confusion with instructions from time to time but overall her online class was enjoyable. I felt free to ask questions and they were always answered quickly.
She was the worst professor I have ever had. I don't know what was going on in her head but what she said in class was extremely confusing. She changes her mind about what she wants all the time and if you figure out how to write the papers for this class you must be psychic. RUN AWAY NOW!!!!!!!!
She was a very tough grader for a 100 level course. She gave feedback, but it was too critical and not useful. The assignments were due strictly at 7pm. I did all the assignments and asked for help when needed, but still received a poor grade in the course, which says a lot about her teaching style.
Dr. Bass is a wonderful person, when it comes to grading, she is not. Her grading style is difficult and makes very harsh comments. Getting an A in the class is almost impossible and you're lucky if you get a C. Anything turned in a second later than 7 pm is penalized and her instructions are usually unclear. Try to avoid.
By far the most unorganized english professor. She rambles on and on about things that have nothing to do with assignments in class. She has too many essays that she grades harshly. She is very opinionated when grading papers, wanting it an EXACT way. She contradicts herself when you ask for help so you end up with a lower grade then what you had
Do not take her!! I put in a lot of effort and still received a bad grade. I went to her several times for help, but her input was confusing and unhelpful. She once emailed the class a youtube video about how to write a certain type of essay and then said "I didn't feel like teaching it". I am very disappointed with this class and Doctor Bass!
Dr. Bass is willing to help, but not as willing as some of my other professors I have had. She doesn't like for you to ask questions, but the content she puts online is disorganized. She's opinionated about errors in assignments instead of giving constructive criticism. I think I'll pass, but only because I stayed vigilant.
I highly recommend not taking this class with her, unless if you're an English major. She's a tough grader and isn't clear on what she wants from you in your essays. She also doesn't grade the essays, she only gives feedback and then you are expected to make the changes and hand it in for a final portfolio that counts as a final exam.
She wasn't clear about what she wanted in the essays that were actually graded. Not clear about format- I always lost points on that. She just isn't clear in general and she's a tough grader. The class being online definitely didn't help. I love english and writing classes but I was very disappointed. Don't take this class online.
Get on her good side early in the semester! She picks favorites and they got the higher grades. Sometimes she was unclear with what she wanted in her assignments. However, she was willing to clarify. She moved due dates around a lot which was confusing. Also, she is really liberal, grading according to her political opinions on some essays, beware
