Doesn't know anything about art
she really doesnt know how to teach
will only do well if you do what she thinks looks good
Unfair grader, picks favorites- not a good teacher
she has changed her teaching style dramatically and for the better
Great professor...a real stickler about creativity...do that and youll do great!
Very awesome prof. She loves to share creative ideas and requires little work. No quizzes or tests, just cool art projects. Very fun class.
Nasty. Made students cry
Great prof. Really had fun with her. If you have the chance, take her class during the summer or winter.
Very little experience as an art teacher--but teaching art teachers? Extremely unprofessional and certainly chooses favorites.
boring class, but you get to do a lot of activities which are fun

very tough grader and does choose favorites... very nice woman tho
Terrible Professor...Unfair Grader Gives A's for B work, and gives B's for A work...Does not make sense

SHOULD NOT BE A TEACHER! Does not deserve to be alive. Unprofessional. Spiteful. Fake. Badmouths collegues and students without prejudice. A shell of a person who has little teaching experience - and does not know how to teach. Save yourself!
Dr. Bensur is a very poor educator. She is unethical and unfair in her dealings with students. She lies, backstabs, and gossips about other professors and students and is extremely jealous and unstable. She lowers the quality of education at Millersville
Not fit to teach. Extremely unprofessional. Two-faced. A real disappointment to anyone who wants to contribute to their education.
besides being severely unhinged, Dr. Bensur is the most unprofessional teacher I have ever had. She has no consistency in grading, she's two faced, and generally rude to her students. Be sure you cover up your tattoo's or you'll never hear the end of it
very nice, kinda quirky woman. i liked her class overall... if you are no good at drawing this is a good art class to take. she can be a tough grader sometimes, but if u take her suggestions and put effort into your projects you should be fine!
absolutely, without a doubt the worst teacher I have ever had. She's two-faced, does not grade fairly, she's quirky, unprofessional, talks about her collegues behind their backs, and inevitably needs to be terminated from this University

High expectations and holds students to professional standards. Helpful at any time. Knowledgeable in all aspects of Art Ed.
great ideas for el ed
good prof
Really nice, understanding lady. Just do projects and talk during class. However, grades weird. Won't understand why you got the grades you got. Easy enough to get at least a B though...
fun classes. lots of projects that I can use in the classroom. watch the grading though
Gossipy, rude, and downright unprofessional. She discriminates against those who don't fit her ideal. Lies, cheats, and acts like a victim to get her way. A disgrace to the teaching profession.
She gives you horrible grades, and then when you ask her to justify her reasons she babbles and can't give a good answer. Horrible for secondary edu seekers. Her class is a joke. Deans lists students wrote letters to the department to complain about her.
art teachers to be: BEWARE. I've been teaching secondary art ed for 4 years and can tell you that I don't send my students to MU for art ed based on my experience with this woman. Gossip and poor teaching are deteriorating MU's art ed rep!
NEEDS TO LEAVE!!! very unfair in grading

Fun classes-not hard at all. Keeps you interested in your projects. She is unfair in grading tho, if you arent good at drawing...shell compare you to art ed majors.

shes not very helpful, and not very clear when she assigns her assignments. then when she does help and you do what she suggests, she gives you a weird grade.
Evil woman, she should not be teaching. Not easy to talk to, demeaning, and very negative vibe in the classroom. She will pick favorites, but many of the class drops out, or feels like crying afterward.I was very interested in jewelry design when I started, now she ruined that motivation.
She may give bad grades but whats worse is that she doesnt give any suggestions or evidence to back it up. Shes unclear in her expectations & is very condescending. Wastes class time too. I hated her class & Im probably going to fail b/c she is so damn confusing. Avoid this class, she is horrible!
Because of her I had to take an extra semester in college. She had me in an academic program that didn’t exist, and it effected my curricular plan. She’s a good person, but is really scattered brained, and lets it muck up her students. In class she’s slack on content, and tuff on evaluation.
This Prof. is off in lala land. Her lectures consist of babling about plasma screen Tv's and cell phones for 2 weeks staright this woman mentioned lectured about these two items now tell me what this has to do with art education. She grades unfairly. shes a complete psyco.
she is somewhat unfair in grading, but if you explain to her why you did what you did, she usually changes it to an A. she has good ideas, just doesn't know how to express them. she does go off on some weird stories, but i learned a lot and got great classroom project ideas. some projects are fun
My God, she needs to be knocked off her high-horse. Absolutely HORRIBLE teacher.
Projects were easy but not always graded fairly. She says its b/c we're ed majors but its b/c she doesn't remember what she tells us we'll be graded on. When getting feedback about her grading she gets defensive & emotional. Brings up her phd to make her feel better. Kind of sucks but it's easy work
She does not remember what she says. She has no criteria for grading, she is very subjective. She is very emotional and unprofessional as she becomes defensive if someone disagrees with her and personally attacks students calling them names and making rude inappropriate comments.
so, instead of a final (8AM might i add!) she was going to have us come to class, give us our final grade, give back ne projects she still had and our notebooks, and serve bagels and coffee...needless to say all we got was our notebooks and projects....no food, no final grade, just disappointment!
No method for grading whatsoever! Wouldnt know fair grading if it bit her in the butt! I would HIGHLY suggest taking another teacher if you want graded fairly! P.S. If you get stuck with her-suck up majorly and you might be okay.
This teacher does not know how to grade. She is completly unfair and does not justify her grades. She will tell you to do one thing and then when you turn in a project she will hate it when it was her suggestions used.
This professor doesn't not grade fairly. She grades based on if she likes the work. So, in this case I would say she picks favorites. If it is ugly you will get an A and if it is beautiful you will get a C. Don't spend time on the piece of work, because you will most likely get a bad grade on it.
Totally unprofessional. All complaints regarding favoritism, capricious grading, inconsistancy, disorganization, lack of content mastery, petty vindictiveness, paranoia, and unbalanced behavior/conduct MUST be well-founded based on the experience of this observer. A pathetic blight to her profession
This lady is so out there. Don't take the class. She is such an unfair grader and totally plays favorites. Even if you really try on something, she probably won't like it. She just really sucks.
horrible professor. doesn't tell you what the projects will be graded on until after u have 2 turn it in. can't back up why u received the grade that she gave u. seems like she pulls the grades out of a hat. she doesn't always put the correct grade in her gradebook, so watch out! avoid her if u can!
she can be confusing and disorganized but is a very nice lady and when you ask her to clarify things she becomes more understandable.
She is very enthusiastic. Very helpful if you spend time to ask for help. She is always willing to hear suggestions to help her improver her lessons.
We did the same thing the entire semester. It was very easy but so boring. I'm not sure what I learned in that class.
*WORSE TEACHER EVER* i dont understand how after all the complaints and everything else that students have submitted about this woman, how she is still holding a job at millersville!
She's one of the nices and most helpful prof's in the art building... She'll spend time helping with things she really doesn't need to. As a prof in a class however....
I thought that the ed. system stressed the fact that you're NOT supposed to drag a student down w/ criticism but make them learn from it. It's pretty damn hypocritical of bensur to tell her students that they won't be good teachers after only a couple weeks & grading one lesson plan. She wants things done her way & she doesn't give a**** about you
Wonderful woman, HORRIBLE teacher. Ironic how she is an education professor...This woman is supposed to teach you how to become a successful teacher, but you have to do it HER way or you fail. Very unorganized, I had to resubmit a lesson plan 4 times, and after i got a 10/10, she told me it was late so I didnt recieve the grade. AVOID!
If you do what she asks you do well. if you mess up, you can re do it as many times as you want, so if you get a bad grade, its youre own dumb fault. shes a very helpful advisor so if you are art ed, talk to her!

this woman is a loose cannon...and a horable teacher! unorganized...and doesn't teach you jack about how to teach art!
She is a very energetic teacher. Can sometimes be a little weird and acts like WE'RE still in elementary school by giving us stickers to intice us to answer more. Her grading is pretty easy. Some of the projects are really fun and others are somewhat boring.

Very energetic and loves art so much. Easy class and I hated art coming into it. She made it fun and graded very fairly. Loved her and her class.
Her class is so fun!! A great morning class because you can do art projects half asleep. It is a good class!
really good teacher...if you are worried about taking an art class take her because as long as you try you will get an A...
Lots of fun art projects. Watch for directions changeing through project(rarely) and follow them carefully. Grades easy and very flexible with projects. Overall I loved this class and learning so much about art!
Easiest A you will ever earn in college. I loved the class with her. Easy quizzes. Easy projects- just follow the step by step directions each time. She can be a little crazy at times but is really nice and will help you. Take art 141 with her and you should get an A.
She is the craft Nazi. She doesn't care if a student is creative, but only if he or she follows the rules. Also, she knows next to nothing about art. She tells us things about paintings that we learned in art history are not true. She has very little concept for design and treats us like we are in fifth grade! She taught me how NOT to teach...
Not a hard class, just answer the review questions prior to each quiz.
great teacher!!! had really great projects...quizzes were easy! easy a class of you attend it.
Extremely enthusiatic about the subject, but often treated us like elementary students. Pretty easy class overall as long as you take notes and read over the chapters before the quizzes. Only offers a total of 100 points all semester, which all come from 3 quizzes.
OMG I Love and Adore Professor Bensur. Lol I felt like a kid all over again
She was nice. The class is a bit boring. I messed up the scantron on the final and a D in the class but she helped me fix it and i ended up with an A. Very helpful and understanding. She is somewhat unorganized
I was in one of those huge auditorium classes. She was a very nice lady, but her classes were useless. Her lectures are vague and go off on insanely boring tangents. She really does help you study for the tests though. You don't need the book. Attendance isn't mandatory.
Great art class for future teachers. The projects are all fun and easy. I have no art experience and got As on my projects. No textbook required, just some expensive art materials. Her directions aren't always clear, but that is because "there's no wrong answer" in art. I highly recommend her!
May be nice as a person, but she's not college professor material. Flip flopped on requirements, forgot what she had requested of us, occasionally going ballistic over the smallest infraction. Spent the semester doing crafts, never really learning much about how to be a teacher. So many ArtEd students drop the Ed part after taking her class.
Barb's unfamiliar with the lessons & often says "I never would have known that" when reviewing the exams. Some test questions give you the answer in the corner of the slide! Inconsistent; said we didn't need the access code from the book and then was surprised when no one bought it. The best part of class: the days it's cancelled (3 times so far!)
Bensur is possibly the worst art professor in the department. You barely learn anything qualifying as art education. You get graded on one notebook, but will constantly do other projects and have arts & craft time for no good reason. However, unless you mess up your notebook, you can't fail the class. Enjoyed that the class was mandatory too.
I genuinely wanted to like Dr. Bensur, because, well, no one else in the class did. But she seemed to hardly know the material at all, and expected us to do assignments online which she had obviously never even looked at. I think she might do better in a smaller setting; she couldn't handle the crowd of 100+ students.
I only showed up to class about 10 times throughout the semester. Everything is online with a program she does not know how to use. Make sure you know all the due dates (they're online)!!! She blamed the students for incomplete tests. Honestly, tests were super easy; I googled all the answers. She encouraged us to use google for test help. Easy A.
This class is extremely easy. Online tests and connect work account for much of the grade. As a teacher, she has little knowledge on the technology she uses and the lectures are pretty much useless, but mandatory. Textbook used heavily and is really the only way you learn anything at all.
Honestly, I want to feel bad for her but then she went & publicly humiliated and degraded me in front of my peers, so now I don't have any sympathy. She treats students like 2 year olds, goes off on long talks about life and other crap not relating to education at all. Very unorganized and let us out after only 15 minutes of class numerous times
just awful
Absolutely horrible prof. She will waste your time. Seriously, GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN. She's a failure at everything and will make you angry every day. She's the worst ever. Don't waste your time!! I would rather try to get an override for a related class or take the class on another campus than ever take her. Do whatever you can not to take her!!
Barbara Bensur was one of the worst, if not THE worst professors I've had at Millersville University so far. She is as unclear as possible, does not have a clue about how to teach a class, and grades are completely up to your knowledge of due dates or remembering to do them online. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS WHATEVER YOU DO!! DOWNRIGHT TERRIBLE!!
She is genuinely a nice person! I was in the most disrespectful class ever and she WILL stop class and stare at you if you are talking over her. You get slightly nickle and dimed with the supplies, but the class is the EASIEST A. Be nice, people!
Dr. Bensur is scatter brained and it is frustrating to no end. This being said, it was an easy course and everyone should get an A. Make sure you do the online modules!
where to start..WORST MU PROFESSOR. Has no idea what technology is or how to use it. Very irrational but the class is so easy. Took no effort whatsoever to pass. If you neea joke of a class for an easy grade take it. DONT BUY THE BOOK! CANT BE SOLD BACK AND IT'S EXPENSIVE!
Barbara is the worst professor to be imagined. She is confusing, both to her students and to herself. She contradicts herself all of the time. She is scatterbrained and sometimes is just very rude. I couldn't stand her as a professor. If there is anyway you don't have to take her, do it.
Bensur doesn't teach whatsoever. We watched like four movies during the semester. The tests are super hard and you have to be really fast and look up the answers or you'll fail. She was boring and had this condescending smile on her face all the time. She will fail you if don't show up to class a lot. The textbook is useless.
She is the worst professor ever. It's an easy A but she's completely unclear and her lectures have nothing to do with the exams. DO NOT BUY THE ACTUAL BOOK. It's expensive and you never use it. If you take art 100 just buy Connect and if you want the online book. Exams are all online. Easy A, terrible professor
I loved the classroom version vs the lecture style the University has forced on her. I still have my portfolio and use it on a regular basis.
I was given this class as a gen ed, and personally I love Bensur as an individual. The book is online, so you need it to pass (tests are online too). She doesn't stay on topic, lectures are incredibly boring, but if you ask for help she will help you. She's an older woman, eccentric, and knowsloves what she's talking about. Read for the class A.
she takes attendance randomly so show up. She just shows slide shows and youtube videos. All of her quizzes are online mostly everything is online. If you take notes and get the ebook, you should be fine. DON'T TRY TO LEAVE EARLY!!! she likes to track people down for who knows what reason....
Just an awful class.
Prof Bensur is kind of all over the place. Lectures aren't clear and sometimes she will stop mid sentence and lose her train of thought. The class is an easy A as most of the tests are online. She is an enthusiastic person who really appreciates the art world. Just don't take this class if you really want to be educated in this topic.
Very irrational professor! If you do not have to take this course do not take it! Her class is pointless and all over the place! She isnt organized at all! Her final was a surprise to the whole entire class. No one takes her serious because she doesnt take herself serious but in the end she grades serious! Kinda confusing!
All over the place. I only did well on the exams because I had art and culture with her previously. She's nice, but just not helpful.
Online assignments and tests were easy as long as you googled the answers and found them on quizlet. The final was based on nothing that we learned throughout the professor no matter how hard you study. Extremely boring lectures. Has good intentions but executes extremely badly.
Dr. Bensur is knowledgable in the subject and is respectful.
