Barbara Booker is an EXCELLENT teacher. I was anxious about taking this course, because English is NOT one of my better subjects. She made the course great. Very down to earth, kind, caring, compassionate, fair, but firm & doesn?t take any crap. She cares enormously about your education & is working on a PhD herself. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. A+++

I was terrified of research papers. I never learned them in high school, or college, and I made it to my last year at PHCC before I took English. This woman is BRILLIANT. She's TOTALLY turned my view around on papers, prepping, proper structure, everything! If you're terrified of English and its scary rules, TAKE BOOKER!! BOOKER IS THE WIN!

I took English 1102 in the summer of 2008 with Mrs.Booker and she was great! I highly recommend her. She read the class alot of short stories and made her expectations very clear. I got an A in the class and I only winged my oral presentation (did not prepare AT ALL). She has great taste iin shoes!!!!

i loved her class. i learned so much. just actually left my last class and decided to give this a try. i enjoyed her class so much and the work was super super easy. and only one research paper the whole semester!

Great teacher, struggled on my paper because I was not sure which topic to us and ended up not turning in a rough draft and got a 0. But did all my other work and did it flawlessly got a 100 on my 10 min presentation on my paper and still got a! in the class. she is a good teacher, there isa good amount of work but you will actually learn in here.

She is probably one of the best English teachers I have ever had. The paper we had to write was fairly simple considering she helps you every bit of the way. And the presentation we had to do was very easy. I learned how to write a good research paper in that class which has helped me in all my other classes I have taken after that.

By far one of the best professors at PHCC. She will explain a topic clearly until everyone understands it, readily accepts questions or comments, and has a conference with each student to go over their paper with them so they can get a good grade (other students are excused for these days!). I had no knowledge of MLA and I now know quite a bit. A+

She is VERY easy on grading compared to other teachers, but I'm not sure if she actually read my paper or just skimmed it because I caught my own mistakes that she didn't. Popular and recommended by even the advisors, everyone seems to like her after taking her class.

Dr. Booker is very knowledgeable and I walked out of her class ten times wiser. I was thrilled to have such a passionate scholar grading my papers. I just wish she graded more harshly.

Mrs. Booker is an excellent teacher! I learned so much from taking her class. I really wish I would of had her for ENG111! My teacher for ENG111 was much more strict and harder and I didn't learn nearly as much as I have taking this class. She is so intelligent and wonderful to be around. Awesome teacher. I hated research papers and feared english as a whole before this class. Glad I found Booker, unfortunately after I withdrew from two previous professors classes. Highly recommend this teacher to anyone. You will learn a lot and she also grades fairly. She is always willing to help and answer all of your questions.

The paper is hard but she makes sure to make it clear how she wants it, you can fail if you listen to her and follow her specific instructions

Amazing professor, easy class. There's only one paper the entire semester and it's broken up to make everything less overwhelming. She's extremely helpful and always eager to answer any questions. Very easy to work with. What she expects of you is very clear. We didn't use the book too much but it is very helpful. Also a few quizzes+ a presentation

The first day of class I had to write a three paragraph story. Could not tell you what I wrote, but my writing hand was shaking. I could not believe how nervous I was. Dr. Booker has a way of making you feel calm. If you go to see her at her office she will work with you. As long as you put in the work, research, you will be fine.

Dr. Barbara B. Booker is the MOST amazing professor you will EVER have. She has such a sweetheart and is very caring. She is a tough grader and is very passionate about English, but you will learn so much from her the class is definitely NOT a waste of time. She goes over things twice if you don't understand. LOVE her she is the best teacher :)

Dr. Booker is awesome! One thing I would emphasize is to know firmly before you enter this class what topic you would want to and LIKE to write about for your research paper. She calls the research paper "your baby" so make sure it is well-fed and cleaned with grammar, details, and correct formatting, etc. The presentation will then be made easier

The one assignment for the semester is a five-page argumentative research paper that you complete piece by piece, little by little. She goes over each section (thesis, intro, body, etc) and explains them pretty in-depthly. Two quizzes, not even difficult. She is also lenient with due dates and grading. Show an interest, participate a little and try

Very laid-back and hilarious. You have to do two essays, a literary analysis and research. If you need help you can go to her and she will help you. I love her class and wish she taught English Comp II so I could have her again.

Overall great teacher. 2 main essays that is basically your overall grade. She is nice and always offers help if someone is struggling as well as gives feedback. he only thing to make sure of is your attendance at the end of the semester when people do their presentations. Dr. Booker was hands-down one of the best professors that I have ever had. She was caring, concise, and clear with her instructions. The whole class was only one detailed paper and it was broken down into different assignments. (Her favorite research paper topic is the JFK assassination. I picked it and got a 100% in the class!) Just do your work!

I liked having Booker as my English teacher because her syllabus is very clear and she is very specific on how she grades. The paper is put together throughout the semester in different pieces. At the end you are expected to present your topic for 10 minutes minimum, but everyone is really supportive and it was actually fun to do. I recommend her.

Dr. Booker is awesome. You only have to write ONE paper. You turn in each section on the paper and she grades it and gives it back to you. At the end you have a whole paper and you present it to the class. Easy A.

Only one paper throughout the semester and two quizzes. She grades the paper in sections and gives great critiques throughout so that you get the highest possible final grade. Definitely take notes on the lessons about MLA format to use in the paper they are extremely helpful.

Booker was a great teacher, i would take her again. She loves when the class contributes and works together, if you want a A you will get a A if you work for it. meaning: do what she says, turn things in on time. She grades the essay really hard, only 1 essay is needed to write. She gives the class quizzes but you work together, PICK HER!!

I loved this professor! Took her online during the COVID-19 summer semester. She gave great feedback, graded very quickly, and was quick to respond to any questions. I believe she was an easy grader as long as she saw you putting in the effort. I wish I could have taken her in person. Great teacher, who is passionate about her job.

The whole class was essentially writing a single research paper broken down into specific steps. Easy to do, but don't put off your research until the last minute, because the body of the paper can sneak up on you. Very easy class; Dr. Booker is a caring, laid-back teacher. The whole class is based around one paper with each week completing one part of it, week one was the introduction, week two the first paragraph, etc. There is a variety of social topics you can pick to write about!She is very caring and provides great feedback on all assignments. Professor Booker provided an amazing Enc1011 experience. There is only one essay throughout the entire semester, each assignment contributes to building your essay as well as help you understand the structure of a good college essay. There are not many assignments in the class however, they are big so there is no procrastinating.

Dr. Booker was my all time favorite professor! If you put in the work and complete the assignments you’ll no doubt get an A. She is very interactive and makes the class fun. You can tell she actually cares about her students and is an example of what all professors should be. Class is 1 paper and she gives incredible feedback on it.

Gives us the right amount of time to get our homework done, easy to talk to, and loves to play different games in class to make it more fun to learn the criteria.

She is obviously a tough grader, but she's an amazing teacher overall. I usually do not rate teachers but she was amazing. She responds to your emails in a good timely manner and helps you figure stuff out when you cant figure it out and will direct you in the right direction. I would absolutely take her class again!!
