Worst prof I have ever had.
I've had her for both Religions and Logic. She's not easy, but if you keep up with the class, she's not hard either. Just don't **** around and you'll be fine.
I had to drop this class. It was extremely boring. Prof Brown is a very intelligent and accomplished women. However, she is one of the most boring instructors I have ever sat through. Her tests can be difficult so if you zone during class and don't study hard in advance, you'll get Ds and Fs.
I had her twice foe Ethics and Religions. She was very educated on the material and gave a great perspective in both classes
All busywork, lectures unclear, unwilling to help
Her lectures sucked and I couldn't keep my focus because it was that bad and she wouldn't help me. I had to find help for my papers
Had for 2 classes. Not the best but solid. Teaches quantitatively: this guy said this, that guy said that. That's not bad for Religion, but it's not the best for Intro to Phil. It would be better with less facts and more discussion. She is not a warm personality at first but improves on the second class as she knows you. I've had much worst.
Don't take this course online. She expects you to be an expert in philosophy after taking this one introductory course. Tests very difficult even using the book. Got A's on all my papers in 2 writing courses and got a D from her on research paper.
She is not the most exciting lecturer but she is very knowledgeable and usually explains things clearly. Her tests are mostly objective, and as long as you pay attention in class and take notes it should be easy.
I have her for Philosophy Ethics (on the internet). She grades essay questions VERY unfairly. If you don't word it to her liking...points taken off. She says you have 15 minutes to take a quiz when you really only have 10 and you get points taken off for time over. Just do yourself a favor if you don't want your GPA to drop and DON'T TAKE HER!
worst teacher ever...grades very unfairly I took for internet course and she does expect you to know everything about philosophy. Also got A's in my eng 101 and 102 and when I turn in papers to her I got a D. Class average was a 68 percent HELLO something is wrong here!!!
teacher was terrible, ignorant, and I would never recommend her. She brings new meaning to the phrase"those who cant do teach"!!!!!!! Thats my PHILOSOPHY
Very hard class. Don't be shocked that you have to read the chapter before attempting the quizzes. Even though it is online, it is still a demanding class, but not impossible. Got an A and I learned alot. I would recommend this clss for those who are still motivated and disciplined.
Does not help with questions. AWFUL TEAcher
Believe what the other that rated her say! She is an Awful teacher I was a straight A student till I took her class. Grades unfairly on essay questions. If you need the course try taking it at another campus. By all means AVOID this teacher!!!
Not helpful, arrogant, grades unfairly on essay questions. Almost impossible to pass.
She is extremely unfair! Her essay questions are graded unfairly.. I too was a straight A student before her classes.. I would never ever take her again!
I was a straight A student before her Intro to Phil. and Ethics classes. I consider myself pretty "test-wise" but her essay exams went over my head every time. I never earned any lower than an A on research papers in other classes, yet I got a D on my paper for her. It was nice seeing her class dwindle in size week by week, I regret not dropping
Very difficult to deal with. She will only answer your questions if she likes what it contains. Says one thing and requires another. Don't waste your time and money with her. I was on the dean's list and I could not wait till the course ended.
Terrible Ethics Professor. Ethics Cannot Be A True/False Course.
Grades very unfairly. Will provide her answer and it will be the same as yours. If asked why marked wrong, email never answered. When asking questions, sarcastic answer is provided that does not answer the question. Very, very unhelpful. This is the only class I have every failed in my long history of schooling. DON"T TAKE HER COURSES!!!!
I took her online class and it was the most excruciating experience of my college career. This lady is infuriating and treats students as if they were children. She responds to e-mails with one word answers and will not help you out or try to understand you at all. She grades hard and takes points off even for correct answers. Do not take her class
RUN as fast as you can. Do not take the Ethics course on line with her. It is a nightmare and she will give you a D for your first essay paper. Unreasonable and of no help.
Save your money. Don't take her class. Thinks she is God. Worst teacher ever. Should be fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree with all the previous comments, she is pretty much the worst. Smug and unhelpful. This is the most difficult online course you will find.
she is an awful teacher and her paper grades are definately unfair..
She is the worst teacher i have ever had. She does not help with anything. Her grading scale is so off the charts it's crazy.
I did all that I could to understand what makes BAB tick but it is not possible. She is the worst teacher I have ever had. If you like philosophy buy a book and enjoy learning. If you need the class pick another teacher at random and you will be better off. I am not angry...but I do feel cheated.
Awful Proffessor!! You can try as hard as you want in that class but it wont help!!! She will give you NO help or advice and gives no reason as to why she fails the student. DONT TAKE THE CLASS SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
She is a scatter brain... all the kids in the class failed her test and she won't curve i'm no slacker but her class was impossible and she doesn't really know what shes talking about please don't take her maybe if no one takes her class she'll be fired... this is the last time DON'T DO IT!!! shes can not teach and will not help
Dr. Brown far the worst instructor I have ever had from grade school to present. I wanted to take more classes in this department but she has the online classes so I will unfortunately need to find another school. Exactly how she remains employed in any capacity by c.c.a.c is beyond the realms of human understanding. She is an intellectual sadist.
!Do Not Take Her Class! {emphasis added}. I care a lot about my education & feel ripped off that I spent my time & money taking her religion class. She knows her stuff but could care less about having her students learn it. Her class is straight lecture w/ some videos thrown in. She involves the class rarely, leaving us to answer our own questions.
By far the worse professor I have ever had in my 4 years of school. Refuses to help you in any way, does not answer questions, does not provide feedback, just takes points off doesn't tell you why, and forbids you to ask her about it. If you send an e-mail to her you will probably not get a reply.
DONT TAKE. I am going for a second degree and have studied at Pitt and Duquesne as well as CCAC. She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Completely useless to ask a question, grades unfairly. Is bias about the topics. I missed a quiz due to military service and she said "that?s not my problem". Ethics questions should not be true/false
I hate to sound so negative but she really is a very bad teacher. These classes should be fun and enlightening but she makes them lackluster in every regard. If you really like philosophy/ethics just take it at another school. It is sad and I hope she finds help and happiness in life, just as long as it is far removed from my own. STAY AWAY!!!!!!
Awful teacher. I took her online ethics class and it was atrocious. No matter how much you study she will not give you a good grade. It's impossible to please her. She is a horrible teacher and I regret taking this class. It's very interesting but she made it dreadful.
I took two online classes w/ her and received A's in both, but both classes were very difficult. She has a very rigid structure that is uncommon at CCAC. Her test/quiz questions are ambiguous. The tests are a series of essay questions. Read the book but realize that most questions come from her notes. Be extra thorough as she doesn't miss anything.
she is a miserable human being that likes to take it out on her students. Impossible to please her, probably why she is still single.
1 Word - HORRIBLE! Avoid if possible.
I have an M.Sc in theoretical physics and I took her classes because I am preparing for a Ph.D program in Phil o Phys. I have never been given a B before BAB. It is impossible to get an A in her class unless she wants you to. Let me tell you, in her mind All have fallen short of the glory of BAB!
STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE IS AWFUL, MISERABLE, AND IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE... CCAC NEEDS TO FIRE HER!!
The only thing worse than a teacher that can't teach is one that's out to ruin students. I have a 2200 on the SAT and am finishing my 2nd year of taking prep classes (bio, chem, phys and calc) before going to Cornell University next fall. She will try to wreck your academic career if she finds out that you have a promising future in academia!!!
Never take her classes. I took an online ethics class and it was ridiculous. She is impossible to please. She does not grade fairly. This is a teacher who is out to fail everyone.
Horrible class, and she doesn't attempt to make it interesting, and doesn't help explain things. This class was such a waste of time and was miserable! All she does is teach off of powerpoint and gives a lot of quizzes.
I'll complete the exercises, get 100% on the first try, then get a 71% on the exam. Demands that we spell properly and use good grammar in emails, then responds with mis spellings and one word answers. Very frustrating. Disconnect between material presented and studied and grade achieved.
Worst class I have ever taken! I never withdrew from a class until now. Listen to the rest of the reviews on here, I decided to give this lady the benefit of the doubt and that was a huge mistake. Impossible to please you have to answer things excatly the way she wants you too and that is IMPOSSIBLE. Save your money and take it somewhere else!
I did learn a lot in this class, but it was from the book, not the instructor. She is very UNhelpful. If you email her with a problem, she will not help you, its like talking to a robot. Essay exams are impossible to pass, weekly quizzes are easy only if you read the book and notes. I somehow ended up with a B. But very hard online class!!
WORSE CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN EXTREMELY HARD STUDIED AND WAS VERY CONFUSING! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU DEDICATE YOUR SELF TO ONLY THIS CLASS. ALSO TEACHER IS VERY ARROGANT.
Expect to work. Not easy but, not impossible. Made me think. This was an online class so there was A LOT of reading. The quizzes were challenging, the tests were long essay and tough, the discussion boards easy. The term paper was 3-5pg dbl space.Watch your grammar and tense when writing. Like all online classes - expect to teach yourself.
All of her exam and exercise questions can be found online, because other profs around the country use them in their courses. She isn't doing original work. She deducted from my grade because the online system wasn't working and I had to submit an assignment as an email attachment and then refused to state how many points she was deducting.
Her online "lectures" are cut and past from the text, word-for-word. Did she do any work of her own for this course? Exam questions phrased in unfamiliar terms that tripped up many students. I have a law degree and passed 2 bars and never took exams so set up to make people fail. Arrogant and unhelpful when approached with questions.
she was the worst professor i've ever had. she doesn't explain anything sufficiently, yet expects you to have a knowledge of the material far beyond a 100 level class. she's extremely arrogant and unhelpful. avoid this woman like the plague.
wort teacher I have ever had. She is quite stubborn and makes it very hard to pass what should be a easy and interesting class.
After a couple weeks into the semester I got use to Prof Brown and I think he class is very simple. I have her online and we have a timed quiz and a DB due weekly. Test are essay but no time limit. Lots of reading but not as bad as everyone made her out to be.
I took PHL101 online in 2004, and thought the class was pretty easy. I earned a high B and unfortunately (or fortunately in my case), I had the highest grade in the class. So, you be the judge.
I have this professor for an online Logic class and I have to say, of all the classes I've taken at CCAC, this is by far the most challenging. I cannot imagine having her for any of my other philosophy classes, which were all engaging and exciting. This professor will NOT help you and instead direct you to a tutor. This is darn near IMPOSSIBLE work
I really wish she would read some of these comments and either retire or start caring about what she is doing!!
I took her ethics class online and let me just say ... i have never had a teacher in my life like her. I dont even know how she is still teaching. She can care less about the students and focuses on her DR title... I never comment on these things but i had to with this teacher ...
Expects submissions be in proper English (grammar, spelling, etc.) yet she responds as though she is sending a txt. Useless professor for Internet classes. Grading for exams is ambiguous and inconsistent.
BABs was the least helpful and most rude professor that I have ever had to work with. When asked a question, she would tell you to call her at home and not answer the question when you did answer.
She was a horrible teacher! Did not help you if you asked for it, was just down right mean to students
BEWARE!!! Stay away from her. I wish I would have read the reviews before I had taken her online class. Dr. Brown is a horrible online teacher and piles the work on. 20 to 30 multiple choice questions that are timed and 10 essay questions with multiple sub-questions. This class ruined by GPA. She thinks its a PHD course,Fire her ccac!
I took her on-line ethics coarse, worst choice ever. Asked for help was told to seek tutoring service, asked to sit in on one of her classes she said NO. Quizzes and multiple choice are ambiguous. Congratulations if you get better than a C in her class. Essay answers are subjuect to her beliefs. Would not recommend this online class to anyone.
I didn't realize ethics was true or false until I took BABS class. I took this course online as I have many other classes. She is not only downright rude but, she grades based on her ethical opinion. I learned one thing from BABS class, her teaching is unethical!!
Dr. Brown's class is undoubtedly difficult. She expects students to be adults and treats them as such. You will have to work hard for a good grade, but she is an excellent teacher if you are willing to learn. A difficult class does not equate to a bad teacher!
Worst class ever! She grades so hard. You will not pass anything! Don't ask for help cause she will be rude and find a reason to somehow blame you. Her tests are extremely difficult and she does not offer enough time to take them. Plus the material covered is not what is even on the test. Avoid taking her at all costs!
Logic is HARD. Not a breze thru class. Her class is organized but I hate how she teaches. The book and her lectures are geared towards EASY examples. While her homework and exams are geared towards HARD examples. She doesn't use any hard examples in her lectures. This left many students clueless on what to do. Find another professor. Srsly.
I took Intro to Phil not because I had to, but because I thought that it would be an interesting class. Sorry that I ever did! Teacher was extremely rude, does not help, and the material is way too difficult for a 100 level course. This "extra/for fun" class trashed my gpa.
Stay away from this teacher she will not help you out she expects way to much for a 101 class. She is the worst teacher i have had at CCAC, she needs to leave. DONT TAKE HER CLASS. She is of no help she thinks that your going to be a philosophy major meanwhile most people just need this class for their major. DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER YOU WILL FAIL.
She used Huston Smith's outlines (didn't tell us - look them up) to generate test questions and her lecture notes making the book fairly useless but for quiz trivia. Her email responses were short. She has a policy of not reposting her lecture notes, which hurts on the final if you don't have them. I will try to avoid her courses from here out.
I took Dr. Brown for 3 classes in a row a few semesters ago. It was the most vigorous semester I've experienced. You MUST put effort into it. There are NO make up assignments. I hated her! Though, I now know Ethics, Logic, and Religions of the World better than any other subject. I learned a lot. Received an A and 2 B's, but I worked HARD!
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. There is no way that the amount of work and essay questions should have been for an Intro class. The quantity of work you do for a journal entry to only receive one point is crazy. Mid-term time you receive a P or F for pass or fail; which is not really helping if you want to know where you stand.
Professor was very easy compared to other online courses at CCAC. She posts assignments well ahead of time and grades them quickly. She responds to e-mails almost immediately and is always very nice and helpful. If you read the textbook, you will have no problem with this class. I spent less than 2 hours a week on this.
My big problem with this prof is that once your work is graded, it isn't available for review. Every other online course I've taken (more than 10) the prof makes the test and correct answers available on blackboard for review. I have no idea how I received my grades, or what I got wrong. Two thumbs way down!
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. She was by far the worst teacher I ever had at CCAC South. I busted my butt in her class and ended it with a C.
let me be clear, this was a 101 class but made to feel like some sort of masters program. she has very hard exams but they are definitely passable if you study and study HARD. I, by some miracle, finished with a B, but that was due to my term paper grade, alone. no helpful responses and if you don't think exactly like her, your answer will be wrong
Dr. Brown, as you can tell from her horrible rating, is not a very good professor. Her quizzes and exams are full of ridiculous, confusing, and trick questions. She rudely cut off or ignored students who did not agree with her. Her class was exasperating and confusing.
Grading procedure is awful, scores only revealed when deadline is past. Ambiguous grading, largely based on her definition of subject matter. Points only given when matching her ideology. Time allotted for testing is laughable in regards to thinking philosophical. Vague lectures were inapplicable. Trivial content, no value in final 4 weeks of class
This was unnecessarily hard. She is unreasonable and expected an insane amount of reading. I knew there would be reading since it was a fast paced summer course but it ended up being 100 pages a week. The test took about 4 hours to complete and sometime more. I did deserve an A in this class but it was so hard others must have done very poorly.
Dr. Brown was by far the hardest teacher I have ever had. I have taken multiple online classes and she was the hardest. This course felt as if it was a master class completely exceeding the difficulty of what a 101 class should be. I completely regret taking the class and the amount of time you will spend on it is not worth the passing grade.
This was the absolute hardest class I have ever taken. Barbara Brown is NOT helpful in any way shape or form when you ask for her assistance if you don't understand something. Her answer to questions to explain something was "read the book" but the book is confusing as are her notes. DO NOT take with her. I had to drop. Horrible.
She was THE WORST teacher I have ever had! On our final paper she gave me a 57%. At my actual college I have never gotten below a 92% on any paper. She is rude and inconsiderate. I am so mad I wasted hours on end even on vacation to try to pass her class. In the end I did not pass. thanks BAB
I took Ms. Brown's on-line class and had to withdraw after 6 weeks. This on-line class was very confusing and trying to get clarification from Ms. Brown was a joke. Her responses were just as confusing, if not more! If you don't have the exact answer she wants, you will not get credit. She is very black and white, no room for debate!!
Absolutely the worst class I've ever taken. Be VERY careful about the way you word things because if you don't word it the way she wants (her way), you'll fail. Even if essentially you have the right answer. No really. Now, I understand she's also a logic prof. but I was taking a religion course. She's rude, crass, and I would never recommend her.
This professor is just looking to tear into students that disagree with her, word things differently than she wants, or has a different worldview. She is intentionally deceptive: she answer questions vaguely about things like whether extra credit "points" are added to percentage "points" or an assignment's "points." She interchanges meanings.
What can I say, I am about 3 paragraphs from finishing a now 9 page term paper and I am whooped. But guess what? I have to finish yet another quiz tonight! This class is EXHAUSTING&BRAIN NUMBING. This teacher has no mercy. Blackboard was down a full weekend and she wouldn't let me take a quiz late due to the site! Never should've taken this!
Endless assignments, reading, and papers are novels. She gives points for assingments like she purchases them out of pocket. I would be surprised if any gets a C or better. Changes how the classes grading works midsemester as if to intentionally fail people. Think you are doing okay in her class? Wait till she changes the way the class is graded.
Do not take this class online. Exams are about 12 essay questions, but the questions are worded in the most ridiculous, tricky way. If you have never taken a prior philosophy class i would highly recommend staying away from this professor.
Worst elective I ever took in my life. This is supposed to be a simple intro to philosophy class. Biggest mistake ever taking this class ESPECIALLY with this professor. Almost 80% of the tests and quizzes aren't from the book. Also she will give you 45 minutes to complete a 30 question test when HALF of the questions are essays. Worst class ever.
I have a PhD in Art History, and I wanted to get some formal education in philosophy. This professor did not know what she was doing, took exam questions from obscure bits of texts that would never stand out to an intro student, and was very vague with feedback, so you could never make real progress with your papers. Extremely annoying!
Worst professor a mind could conceive of. Shes not open minded and shes cut your papers to pieces if she disagrees with you. Theres no reason to revise you papers in her class because she gives almost the same grade for following her demands for revision. I don't know how this person holds a job at a college. I am unimpressed with her knowledge
HORRIBLE instructor!!! RUN!!! I have taken approx. 60 college classes and she is by far the worst instructor EVER!! Sad because the book is really interesting and well written. Like everyone else who left a comment, the exams are essay questions worth between 2 points to 6 points each and impossible to get correct according to her requirements.
This by far is the WORST CLASS EVER! Her timed quizzes are unreasonable. They would be 30 minutes to answer 25 questions and half of them are open-ended. Her exams are impossible to pass. If your answer doesn't exactly matches her logic, THEN ITS WRONG. Her responses via email are extremely vague. Only reason why I passed is cause of extra credit!
She might have been the worst professor I've ever taken. I had to drop this class, because she was that bad. She's very biased and grades completely unfairly. I was out upwards of $300, but by that point, I didn't care. I had to get out. I was learning nothing. She was very rude. Her feedback is asinine. I have nothing positive to say about her.
I took her online Philosophy class. The class consisted of reading and taking tests, no discussions. I read everything I was assigned to read, but when i would take the test none of the questions seemed familiar. I emailed her since this was an online class asking for help. She advised me to simply reread the 50-70 page chapter 3 or 4 times.
Doesn't deserve to be an educator. Quizzes made of ?'s that she pulls out of her head, not the textbook. She expects proper grammar in communication but replies like a 5 year old. Not helpful, rude. Grades ONLY according to her perception of philosophy. Skims answers for her key words, if not included, grades as wrong. I'd NEVER recommend her.
This has to be the worst experience I've ever had in my life. Her grammar is atrocious! She is not clear at all in her questions and tests.
I had to withdraw from this class. I was really enthusiastic about this class at the beginning, until Mid-Terms. The structure of this class is disastrous. This class is an energy and time waster. The book was easy to follow along until the class assignments. Her Chapter Outlines have a lot of errors as well.
Dr. Brown was a terrible grader and will give you no clear feedback. I highly recommend that you do not take her course because you will struggle TREMENDOUSLY!
I would not recommend anybody to take a class taught by professor Brown especially an online course. When grading assignments she gives minimal to no feedback. It is extremely difficult to improve throughout the semester with Brown as a professor due to her lack of feedback on assignments especially essays. Does not respond to inquires for feedback
Professor Brown is honestly the worst professor. Ethics is a very complex subject but she doesn't know how to teach. Her lectures are very scattered and confusing. She gives little to no help. She isn't understanding or forgiving. If this isn't your major, i recommend getting another professor. She can be rude but she is mostly nice.
Very clear and upfront with what is expected of adult college students and the work that you have to put into the class (syllabus). Indeed this is a difficult class, not because of the content, but because she challenges you to think and the time required outside the classroom. Very good class, I enjoyed taking Ethics with her.
Brown is condescending and ignorant. She does not answer questions, just quotes information. She treats an online class at CCAC like she is teaching a class at Harvard. She puts information on the test that you haven't even covered yet and leaves little room for improvement. I have never read an entire text book for a class. Do not take her!
"Professor" Brown is the worst "professor" I have had in my years at community college. Her grading is the hardest I have ever seen. She creates her own questions on tests and if you take the answer straight out of the book it is still wrong. She scheduled my classes and put me in her class specifically so it would get filled. NEVER TAKE HER CLASS!
She's literally so boring. And her tests are open book, but since she has her own way of grading, even if your material is exactly the same as the books, she won't give good grades.
She is not clear on what is expected. I took a essay test and she gave me only 61% because my answers were not hers. The thing is that I used the book, i'm sure i'm not wrong. never will give you full score there is always something that you missed or could have done better
Loved this class! Dr. Brown is very clear on her expectations and the class is layed out with no surprises. Journal entry and 2 quizzes a week, 3 major tests and a paper. Was not difficult at all if you keep up on the readings. The quizzes are fairly easy. The tests are a little harder. Not sure why she doesn't have better reviews.
NEVER TAKE HER CLASS! I wish I never took her class. She's a REALLY REALLY TOUGH GRADER. She would literally take the whole points off from essays. By far, she's the MOST DIFFICULT Professor I've ever came across.
I had her for world religions and ethics and her tests are open book and open note but don't let that fool you you could write your answers word for word from the book and from the notes and it still would be missing something her lectures are all over the place and very hard to follow. SAVE YOUR GPA AND DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES!!!
If you find out that Dr Barbara Brown is assigned to teach class, Do not walk, RUN to the office to drop/change this Class IMMEDIATELY unless you are a masochist & enjoy being tortured. She turns what should be an interesting "101" course into a Doctorate level trauma. She is VERY unclear about her expectations, insatiable, & unpleasable. -5
She is the biggest joke of a professor. You could have the whole answer right to a question and she would take all the points away because of one word she didn't like. I enjoy challenging classes, but if you don't know how to succeed, it's not worth it. She is boring, awkward and makes an interesting class very very awful. She should be fired.
I thought these comments were a joke or fake. Professor Barbara Brown taught an online course from home. She doesn't have enough office hours and will not help you. Her syllabus is all over the place. Her grading system is horrific! Too late to withdraw nor do I want the "W" I more then likely fail. CCAC also doesn't have an Ethics tutor! BEWARE!
Will never take again. Currently taking her online ethics class and logic class. Her directions are incredibly vague and then she grades for things not included in them. She is the worst professor I've ever had. If you ask questions she will give a one sentence response referring you to the textbook. Still considering dropping the classes.
Professor Brown taught my online class. The paper I wrote garnished a C. All of my other papers in other classes were mostly all A's. There was no direction of open book tests or I would have utilized the book and received better than the C grade I was just given for the entire class. She seems cold and uncaring;though she did reset a test 4 me
Dr. Brown was very clear in her expectations that were set per her syllabus on day one. Her quizzes and tests are all open book. You MUST read the chapters and MUST read her lecture notes for her online classes. Her test and quiz questions come directly from those sources, you won't find the answers anywhere else.
Dr. Brown is one of the worst professors that I have had in my collegiate career. I do not say this lightly. Her inscrutable directions, unhelpful (not to mention rude) responses to emails, and exam questions on material that was not even been remotely broached in lessons all combine to make Dr. Brown an awful educator.
Horrible experience. Took online over the summer. Somehow pulled out a C, but her grading on the essay portions of exams and the term paper are ridiculous. Submitted my term paper for rewrite and she gave me a 40%. Made all necessary changes she asked for and she gave me a 55. Asked what was wrong and she gave me a bunch of new negative feedback...
Between unexplained/vaguely defined assignments, blood-boiling quizzes and exams, and the stilted, uncaring, and sometimes even rude tone of the lectures, this is by far the worst teacher I've had. You could score a perfect A and still be docked points, because she didn't like your answer. If you have an upcoming class with her, RUN FAST AND FAR!!!
Where to begin. This teacher has no concept of organization in her blackboard classroom. Everything is described in a way that makes sense to her and no one else unless you could read her mind. If you have a question, she will immediately give you attitude, acting as if you are an idiot and point you to the syllabus to figure it out for yourself.
I tagged extra credit because you're gonna need to do it. Grading is totally arbitrary on exams. Quizzes are easy though, you'll ace those. Vagueness, ambiguity, lack of feedback. Buyer beware. More of a gatekeeper than a teacher.
RUN AWAY FROM HER
Dr. Brown was by far the worst professor I have ever had. She is a horrible grader. If you do not write exactly what she wants, she takes off points, even if you are right. She is very rude with an attitude when replying to emails and doesn't seem to want to help her students succeed. It is either her way or its wrong, no in between.
She should have been fired long ago. Teachers are meant to help you learn and grow but she is one of the worst professors I have BY FAR. I have As in both of the other classes I am taking this summer and a 3.9 GPA and yet I am about to fail her ethics class. She does not give enough time for her quizzes and she grades very unfairly. Do not take her
Professor is a very stern professor. Her syllabus is very clear and you must meet the deadlines with no exceptions. All quizzes are open book and to be honest all the answers come straight from the book. There is one paper in the entire course than i personally did not understand clearly and i received an F on it however i still passed the class.
Never in my life have I felt so compelled to rate a professor. I took her Ethics course online to transfer credits to my normal college, Duquesne. She is the most critical grader I have ever dealt with, expecting perfection as a minimum in a class many students struggle in. I passed business ethics with flying colors, but this class was unfair.
This woman is a very tough grader. I found her online class overly challenging with questions in the test not in the book. Would recommend NOT taking her
No clear grading criteria for quizzes and exams. Introductory is incredibly difficult. Textbook is a rough read. Tough grader with unexplained standards.
Please, do not take this class. She is unclear, unfocused, and does not help the students. Taking her class will lower your GPA, and you do not need this type of stress in your life.
Very stern! She takes points off if your responses are too lengthy or not exactly what she thinks, even if the answer came directly from the book. She has no care for what you think, because what she says goes. She is an extremely tough grader and there no option to review exams online. I do not recommend taking her class, not worth the stress
How I wish I had checked this site out before I took her class... for the sake of your sanity and GPA, steer clear of this woman. CCAC clearly does not care that they have an unfair professor "teaching" their students, that are paying them money to learn. Just to have someone like this woman go out of her way to make things difficult and fail you
The worst professor ever!.
Steer clear of this woman. I'm taking the online course and frankly, it's awful. The worst part is that her "lecture notes" are just the book, almost verbatim. Not only is she plagiarizing but it also makes it extremely difficult to understand the material. If I don't understand it from the book, her "lecture" isn't going to help clarify anything.
If only I'd have checked this site prior to enrolling in Dr. Brown's course, I'd have steered clear; which is what you should do. Poor guidance throughout the course, with unclear expectations. On several occasions I emailed Dr. Brown to clarify instruction and receive feedback, with zero feedback given upon each attempt I made.
Grading is absurd - like beyond Harvard-level expectations. If an exam question is "What color is the sky?" and you answer "blue," she'd take 20-30% off your total score and say the correct answer was "light blue." She doesn't understand the material herself and gives notes full of typos and contradictions. No help to students. VERY insulting.
Drop the class as soon as you sign up for it, she is the toughest grader I've ever had and doesn't teach to the students. The exams are open book and open note, but I haven't gotten better than a 76% on any of them (I consider myself intelligent and capable). You will not learn philosophy, only how to take notes in her voice.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. She marks points off for every little thing If it is not exactly what she wants. Even if you are trying and she can clearly see that and see that you have read the material she will mark it wrong. When I asked her why things were wrong she is short and NO help. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Hands down the worst teacher I have ever met. She clearly has no idea about the subject she is teaching. She marks things wrong with no indication on why it is wrong, and does not give feedback when asked. Her test questions often do not come from anywhere in the textbook. Do not take this teacher, I had a 4.0 for 5 straight semester until her.
do NOT take any philosophy courses at this CCAC campus. Barbara Brown is the worst teacher I have ever seen. She grades tests with no mercy and if your answers arent specific to the way she thinks, then it is marked wrong with no explanation. If you ask why its wrong, she will basically say well, you see, its just wrong.
Awful grader, do not take any class from this professor. She has no mercy to her students. It is very hard to write a paper, and she will not even appreciated it. She will give you bad grade.
The worst teacher I have ever had. DROP THIS CLASS! I got a F in her class. I have never failed a class before and after asking her for help she told me to talk to her during office hours which was during my work so I couldnt go.
Poorly designed class which badly represents CCAC as a whole. As a student who goes to another school I would not recommend taking any classes with this department. They make a class that can be interesting incredibly difficult. Also just because you have a doctorate degree doesn't make you a good professor.
This class has been nothing but a waste of time and money. I would encourage anyone who is considering taking PHL111 with Professor Brown to disregard that thought. The course exams and quizzes are incredibly difficult to follow and pass. A terrible reflection of the college and what they stand behind as of staffing.
Probably the worst teacher Ive ever had. Everything is graded really difficult and her classes are hard to pass. Save yourself the time and energy.
As a lot of the other students that have rated Professor Brown, I did not enjoy this class at all. She has a no-excuse policy, and it's clear from the language in the syllabus that she has absolutely no sympathy for students having real-life struggles. I 100% do not recommend and did receive my first ever F for this course. DROP THE CLASS!!
Literally the worst professor I have ever dealt with. She has horrible grading criteria, she will mark things wrong and not give any explanation as to why. She's terribly rude, and shows now sympathy for the people who are obviously trying. She puts questions on tests and assignments that aren't found in the book. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!!
The best way to do well in this class is to not take her. For the love of god if you are training to be a professor do the exact opposite of what she does. This entire class was a complete joke and the professor was too. I'm baffled at how bad she is.
Took online Religions of the World with Prof Brown for transfer credit. Did pretty terrible on the exams until I found a PDF for, The World's Religions, by Huston Smith. This book contains almost all the information you need to include in your exam responses. It is the primary source to most of her notes even though she doesn't cite it..... GL
Barbara is the worst teacher I have ever had. The class average on an exam was below 50% and she did not take the time to go over anything that needed clarification. Her exams are open notebook and still students struggle to get even a C in them. Anytime a student asks a question she tells them to See her during office hours.
Do not recommend this class. I got points taken off of my first two exams because of my word choice (I used "pass through" instead of "reach"; she crossed it out and took points off). Very picky and tough grader for the tests, but easy grader for the journal entries (based on completion).
weekly tests are easy, journals are mandatory and easy as well, she is straight to the point with what she wants. all answers are in the book for quizzes and most of the test, but I was able to find all the quizzes on quizlet. essays and open ended part of quizzes are more difficult
I thought it wasnt fault for possibly getting my first ever b in this class. When I came to look at the other reviews I found I was not alone! Brown is awful. As others have said, she is a super hard grader, and doesnt seem to have any sympathy at all. Her responses are rude and she seems like she does not care. Please do not take her class.
Do. Not. Take. Her. Awful... worst professor I have ever had. Honestly, I dont know how shes employed with this college. I recommend that no one is to EVER take ANY class with her as the instructor.
Dr. Brown is a tough grader, and EXTREMELY hard to please. I have literally answered questions and recieved half credit, and then she will post the correct answer and it's the exact same answer just different wording. So unless you are a mind reader when it comes to her definitions don't take her course. I've had straight As for 6 semesters til now
Literally the worst prof I've ever had. Unfortunately I had her for 2 classes ;and ended up failing both and getting physically I'll from all the stress her classes caused. Isnt clear on what her expectations are, open book and note test and still all the class failed. A class of 30 went to a class of 4 by the end of the semester. CCAC do something
took this as a transfer credit for my uni. This was an ENTRY level course and has been the hardest class I have ever taken. The lack of resources, lack of specificity and lack of help when emailed made this class hell. Textbook is hard to understand, takes away all lecture notes so you cant study for the CUMULATIVE final. I could go on. JUST DON'T
If you struggle with ethics, do not take this class. She is an extremely tough grader. When she grades, it is not clear what you got wrong on either papers or tests. She will say you got something wrong and give you a failing grade, but you will look at your work and still be confused on how you got the answer wrong. She is a very frustrating prof.
class is self taught. every essay we did i answered with all information from the text book with the correct info still grades badly even my friend took the same class same happened to her then she sends you a download with the "correct answers " to check ur work and the form she sends is blank?? terrible professor doesn't help u
Arbitrary grading to the point of marking answers wrong because she didn't like the phrasing used (even if the words mean the same thing). Lecture notes rarely explained or expounded on the heavy book reading; when they weren't just copied from the reading verbatim. Zero feedback with the sole exception of "office hours" and "find a tutor".
Brown doesn't promote any discourse related to the theories in the course. She is highly rude when wanting to create dialogue only to better understand an aspect of the topic itself. Her journals are more an essay quiz, and will mark down for phrasing. Doesn't seem to enjoy teaching. You'll learn more in any other course from a different professor.
Professor Brown is an extremely tough grader who seems to dislike any ideas besides her particular thoughts. With her, wording matters. If you use a word that is synonymous with the one she is looking for, she WILL mark it wrong. I ended up getting better grades looking for answers in the text rather than actually reading all of the req readings.
I was taking masters level courses and this class by far is the hardest class I have ever taken. when returning your test grades, she is not specific on what points you get for what question. Ex: she put a 5 next to a question that was 5pts, but that did not reflect in my score. She told me I was wrong to assume i got 5 pts instead of .5!!
Unless you are trying to put yourself through hell, do not take this class. Brown is the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. No matter how much time/effort you put into tests its impossible to get a grade above a C. This is coming from a student who has never had any grade below an 89 before in HARD classes. Do yourself a favor dont take her.
This was an elective and if I read the reviews for BAB I NEVER would have applied. I was excited to take this class as I currently work in this field and already had a strong background in the subject matter, horrified with the results. Wouldn't return emails to me or my advisor over a serious issue. Repetitive course work. Avoid this instructor!!!
She doesnt mark your answer right unless its in her worked she doesnt tell you whats wrong about your paper
Taking medical ethics-accelerated & online. No lecture just notes. 2 many assignments each week. Last week given 4 chapters to read, 4 quizzes, 4 journals along with a multiple choice and essay exam all due this morning. This is almost each week. Very rude when contacted. I have an A 3 weeks from finish but its hard work keeping it.
Brown is the worst professor i have ever had. I needed this ethics course to transfer to Uni and i will most likely have to re-take it. She grades very harshly and if you do not use her exact words, she will take points off. If you are looking into this professor, do NOT take her class. I honestly do not know how she still teaches at this school.
This teacher, although she does seem like a nice person is the hardest grader Ive ever experienced as a teacher. She docks off a lot of points for small things that end up having a huge impact on your course grade. I had to work very very to even get a B because she grades so unfairly. Would not recommend taking the course with this teacher all.
If your heart is not good, this teacher will give you a heart attack. Very tough grader. Even if you think you've done your best, think again, your best is not good enough. Touch her heart Lord.
she sucks. please save yourself from this women!!!
Worst professor Ive ever had. If you dont state word for word of what she wants to here, you will be marked incorrect. Want to email for help? Dont shell tell you that you should have read harder and that you have to think a certain way about this topic.
I took this class to get credit for my school. I can easily say this is one of the worst professors I have ever had. I know I always asked for help but she would never give me anything that could help me. I am disappointed because I thought I would like this class, but it made me not want to take a class like this.
Seriously over the top with the critical grading. No lectures, no direction of what to read, yet shreds what you write. Never had less than an A before. Honors student. Every test and paper was a struggle with her. Hated this experience. Completely unnecessary and totally turned me off from the topic of ethics. she's the worst.
Don't take if you can avoid her. I have a BA in Philosophy and she tore my paper apart because I didn't say things the exact way she wanted me to. I have asked her several questions and I get one word responses back. One time she just said "never heard of that". She gives you an outline telling you what to learn. No discussions about content.
This woman has a bitter soul and knows nothing about philosophy. She doesn't teach from the book and assumes we should know exactly how she wants us to phrase every sentence when half of the time she doesn't know what she is talking about. DO NOT TAKE
Get ready to cry! She never tells you why anything's wrong and is so rude when replying back to you. She grades so harshly I had to dropped her class or else I would fail! If you value your sanity, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Worst Professor Ever and dont take onlineHer assignments consist of journal entries and exams - Ive copied answers word for word from her powerpoints for the exam and still failed. She just says See wrap up on journal entries. Women Makes no sense and just reads off PowerPoints . Worst prof Ive had at CCAC North. Again- Do NOT take her class
Brown expects you be a mind reader, if you dont share her OPINIONS on a subject or use a word she prefers you lose points. no feedback on any of your work, just cross outs or minus points. She is the worst prof I have taken by far. And don't bother emailing this lady she won't answer you 9/10 times. And the one time she does she's condescending.
extremely stringent about phrasing. checkmarks certain phrases and words and bases the grade on whether a certain word or phrase is used. her exams have questions that have stumped masters students I've consulted. No thought provoking engagement and no exploration of concepts, the journal she assigns merely has questions she would ask on a test.
So to start this is a difficult class. If you have no interest in spirituality or religion don't take it. If you aren't a good writer don't take it. A lot of reviews on here are super negative because people expect an easy course and an easy grade. Neither of which her classes are. You can still pass if you put in the effort.
DO NOT TAKE PROFESSOR BROWN. I can honestly say that she is the worst teacher I ever had in high school or college. She makes you buy a textbook and uploads some vague PowerPoints each week and expects you to read her mind. I have used information directly from her and I failed the test. Rude email responses. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I had Prof Barbara Brown for Religions of the World online course and it wasn't so bad. We did a short journal entry and a 10-20 question quiz each week and only one paper the entire semester. This class wasn't hard at all, although many people made it seem scary. She was a very fair grader, and the work was truly very easy.
She will teach her entire class reading a power point word for word. Then, the exam she gives will be word for word questions from the PowerPoint. Even if you answer her questions exactly how she did on the PowerPoint, she will take points off. Unless you can read minds and know exactly how she wants you to answer, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS
I literally created an account to leave this review. For no reason, whatsoever, should you take a course with BAB as your professor. She is the most unclear, and inconsiderate instructor I have ever met. She does not leave corrections, or any sort of review. She simply docks as many points as she can. The online lectures are literally a word doc
PROFESSOR BROWN HERSELF IS VERY PLEASANT AND NOT DIFFICULT TO BE AROUND, I TOOK HER CLASS VIA ZOOM AND SHE JUST LECTURES STRAIGHT FOR THE ENTIRE TIME-I NEVER COULD PAY ATTENTION, THE CLASS IS BASICALLY GRADED VIA THE EXAMS WHICH YOU CAN REFERENCE THE POWERPOINTS FOR THE ANSWERS. I STRUGGLE VERY MUCH AND ONLY HAD A B AS I DID GOOD ON THE PAPER.
Forever indebted to Professor Brown for giving me the ability to hate again
Took her for Religions/World, she has to have been the most difficult and strict teacher I have ever had. She was awful. Her tests were written as if we were experts, you have to read and take notes as your life depended on it, her grading was absurd. ex. I wrote an IMO perfect 10-page paper and had one single mistake and that dropped it to a 95%
Just simply do not take this professor. Not worth the grief and course load for a silly philosophy class. 10 times harder than any CCAC asynchronous course I have taken. Look elsewhere for a philosophy course.
This is by far the worst class I have ever had. Need help? Don't expect any. She wont respond and when she does she just says "Should have read harder" Doesn't use the book and expects you to mind read.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She grades harder on English than most English teachers and if you misspell anything she takes the point off even if the answer Is right. She also has no idea what she is even grading I had a friend in the same class and copied his answer to a question and she gave me less points than him.
Honestly, she does not have any of the redeeming qualities that they give you to choose from above. I was at this school before, took a ton of classes with no issues. I graduated. My experience with Barbra Brown is terrible. She is unresponsive, not clear, zero feedback, and really has no interest in interaction with students.
To be a 101 course for me it was completely difficult to satisfy this Educator in my own words. I was tutored by a philosophy masters graduate/ sibling, and still recieved a failing mark. Recieved no real feedback, was graded upon misspelled words yet the Educator also misspelled. Very unprofessional grading strategy.
Contacted her for help with problems I wasn't understanding. Her first response "Read the book". When I emailed her back saying "If you would READ MY EMAIL, I read the book and ..." re explained my story. To which she simply said "If you took more time to proofread your answers, maybe that would help" and then no further responses.
She grades her exams and papers extremely hard and you basically get little to no feedback from her. If you try to contact her by email, her responses are extremely vauge! At one point I was even wondering if she enjoys teaching and actually want to see her students succeed. The course itself was easy but Barbara Brown made it difficult.
The way to pass this class is to work hard and maybe cry.Lots of reading,1 -2 journals and 1-2 quizzes per week,2 exams,a paper, and extra credit. The quiz/exam are timed.Use Quizlet. She offers rewrite for paper and phone call.Very polite and kind, but have questions ready.Expectations are not always clear.Overall, her class is difficult but possible.
Took Summer med ethics, worst decision ever. The course work is very easy.. She is just a very tough grader and not very consistent. I was doing well on quizzes but one paper is worth 25% of the grade and got a 70 on it and brought me down to a 92-75 in the class.. very little reasoning as to why I got the grade I did. Pick a different professor.
Scum of the earth. Horrible professor do not take. do not take. DO NOT.
Classes that I took with Professor Brown were extremely difficult because the lecture documents did not help me learn the material very well. Also, the grading of this course is very vague. It feels like I was being told what I was doing wrong, but not given guidance to fix it whatsoever.
She doesn't provide feedback on assignments, tests, or quizzes.
In the second half of the semester, I had personal issues, but I'm picking classes back up again and I refuse to retake this. Back when I was really trying, she'd deliberately find reasons to cut off points, even if I had done everything written down on the assignment sheet. Her emails always felt super passive-aggressive, too.
Yeah.. wish I would have read all these comments before taking her class. The questions for the Exams actually make no sense. There is no feedback about her grading. Angry and aggravated. Avoid her class at all cost.
Please do yourself a favor and not take her classes. She is a very tough grader. She gives no explanation on why she gives certain grades. If you ask to rewrite or make up for something she does not allow it. I wrote 7 pages of essay she gave me a 34/100 I asked her what I did wrong so I could rewrite it she gave me no explanation. DO NOT TAKE
I have never had an encounter with a professor quite like this. She either hated me or her job, because she graded me very roughly on essay exams despite very good quiz scores. She never provided feedback on ANYTHING, no matter how much I asked. DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. PROFESSOR.
I was honestly really excited to take a course on world religions at the beginning of this summer. Until Brown gave an assignment that she graded instead of a computer. The unit exams are insane. I wrote pages upon pages and she never gave me over 70%. She doesn't explain any grading criteria and will not comment on what you did wrong. DO NOT TAKE!
DO NOT TAKE HER!! She doesn't give feedback. If you ask for help she gives short responses that aren't helpful. If you don't give the exact answer, the exact way she wants it, you lose points or get it wrong. Shes an unreasonably tough grader. Shes why I found this site, the other negative reviews are 100% truth! AVOID HER! Worst professor at CCAC!
Its hilarious how bad of a professor she is.
Avoid this professor at all costs. Unfair grading, no feedback, and exams that make no sense. However, unstuck study proved helpful for studying when the textbook wasn't useful. Overall, a frustrating class that I wouldn't recommend.
shes awful recommend anyone taking her class in the future to drop out. first week she gave the whole class a unit test and everyone failed and it impacted all of our grades for the whole year, leading to more than half dropping out the class, after all of that she said that we shouldve prepared better, IT WAS THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL.
