A lot of people won't like her teaching style, but she's nice and knowledgeable.
grades papers kinda hard...but reasonable. don't have to buy book or read assigned readings, offers help for papers. kinda strange, but good teacher
She's weird, won't ever let you out of class and is a tough grader. She's just ANNOYING.
She's very nice and willing to help if you ask her. You have 3 essays to write. All of which she grades well...not too hard. Discussions on readings during class. Some in class work to boost your grade. Overall, she's a good professor.
She's weird but decent teacher, although she doesn't really teach. she just assigns 3 essays, grades them, and gives them back. final sucks but then again, all in class essays suck. Not too miserable of a class.
Didn't really enjoy the class. Class evolved mostly around the Oneida community and Shaker type information. Not too hard of a grader, just fair. A little boring and annoying but overall, there are worse teachers.
she is really weird and very annoying. she wont let you out of class until the minute the class is supposed to end, so you sit there and do nothing till its over. she also gived the most boring topics to write on and they are difficult to research.
boring, keeps you to the LAST MINUTE. tries to start on a new book with 2 minutes left in class. enjoys hearing herself talk and goes off on points and then forgets what her originial point was. she's nice but the class over all is just not the best.
A bit boring but english is hard to make interesting anyway. Grades pretty fair but you must work hard on all the papers to do well. Offers good help if you go see her
I didn't like her at first, but she grew on me. If you take the time to ask for help, she tries to be helpful. Super weird though!!!
I liked her. I spoke up in class, and I think it really helped me out in the end. I also learned a lot and the Greek stories were really interesting. WAAAAAY too much focus on christian literature, though.
Had TR class. Entertained myself with crosswords on Tuesdays and read the Plainsman on Thursdays. She is sooo ditsy. Funniest thing is watching her look up at the ceiling when she talks. Will bloody your papers, but scales at end of semester. Recommended.
She basically holds your hand throughout all your essays and sets a day for peer editing and stuff like that. She's more than willing to help with any questions you may have and tries for class discussions. Just go to class. She's good about emails and even sends out reminders about due dates.
She's very easy altho can be boring. The papers were a breeze but you have to go to class, she has a killer attendance policy, lose 3 points from your grade for every class missed over 4. She gives an enormous amount of busy work on gramma basically things we learnt in high school.
She is a very spacy teacher. She changes what she saying several times in one sentence. You never really know what she wants. I got help from the english center and the teacher and I still got a B on my papers and in the class. I think she is to much of an airhead to even know what she is doing.
This woman is kooky... if you can get another teacher then I'd do that cause she's so annoying and the class is so boring. NEVER lets you out early and she DOES NOT give A's, period. I did the assignments and never sought any outside help and ended up with a B.
Very bizarre. Gives hard to resaerch topics and grades difficult. Only one person in my class recieved an A. Rambles incoherently about nothing.
BORING! She just talks about nothing.. Quizes can be hard. On the final she put a random quote and cut out the middle which told which part of the story it was. Have to go to class. Destroys papers which are on random topics. Take someone else.
This lady is really sweet and she never gets mad about anything. She lets daily work be late and she is really into English. She is definately on the spacy side, but she also tends to grade very easily as long as you fill the requirements. She also has a 4 unexcused absenses policy instead of 3 like most English teachers. Overall shes not bad!
It's obvious she loves teaching English. However, I find her very nit-picky. There's vocab due every week, and it's the most random words...ever. Her topics for the writing assignments are boring, and she grades hard. Other than that, she is all right though. I have a B in the class. However, I wouldn't want to take her for World Lit.
She is a boring sex talking lady who will not help you! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS SHE DOES NOT GIVE GOOD GRADES! If you do get her DROP. Becuase she will be a waste of your money. She HATES teaching! Also, You have to go to class everyday! She will make you read the dumbest book that she can find and there WILL NOT be ciffnotes on them!
run away very quickly. She is unclear, and really really unhelpful!! Her papers are impossible and the topics are ridculus! I went to class everyday and I still had trouble. Book reading assignments are crazy...seriously run away....
Picks wierd books, all dealing with love, sex, and well...love and sex, and thier all horrible, no cliff notes, no easy reading, and she has her own set interpretations of these books. Exams were hard, as were essays. Id avoid her and get another prof if at all possible!
If you have to take this class with her, don't do it at 8am. The classes are extremely boring, and you can only miss a few days each semester. All the books are random, with no spark notes or online info, and they all deal with love and sex, which she is way to interested in. The exams are long and hard (no pun intended), as are the essays.
She gives the most boring topics to write about, and she grades her papers tough. Didn't like her final exam question. She said I showed improvements, but I still got a C. I've always done good in English, and this is the first time I got a C in it. Don't plan on taking her for World Lit. Other than that, it's obvious she likes teaching English.
This is the most boring teacher I have ever had at Auburn. This class has the possibility to be interesting, but all she does the entire period is read from very old books in a monotone voice. Do not take this teacher - you will dread every moment you are in the classroom!
VERY BORING!!!! this class dragged by. i played games on my cell phone the whole time just to stay awake. Tells you everything that happens in stories in detail. got a B in it but use her as a last resort!!!!
Dr. Brumbaugh is not that hard. If you put in a little effort, you can make a good grade. As long as you keep up with the reading assignments, you'll be gold. Participate in the class discussions bc that can up your final grade by 5 points. There is a debate & a performance that add up to be 30% of your grade and the papers are short with 700 words
you can bs... a lot
Not hard, but terribly boring. I got an A in the class, but wanted to shoot myself every class. Lots of opportunities for bonus points and she's a fair grader.
well. she's odd. to say the least. i sit by the door for a quick escape. holds you till the exreme last minute, 10 minutes into the class and you want to hit your head on the wall. her papers are RANDOM, and weird. but most of the time we are in the computer lab. so Face book is a wonderful destraction. VERY DITZY. dont take if possible
Well first off, she is a little different but nice. She is a very picky grader and takes points off for completely random mistakes. Her class lectures are extremely boring and the class exercises have nothing to do with writing compostions. I got a B in the class but still I would avoid taking her.
I've never sat through a worse class. She holds you to the last second of class even if there is nothing left to teach, takes points off final grade if your late, complete torture to sit through. Easy grading, but absolutely terrible teacher. Awful.
SO BORING!!! I want to kill myself every time im in her class. essays are ridiculously easy- a complete waste of my time.
The most boring person in the world. Tough grader veryyyy nit picky about stupid stuff. I really want to send her on TLC's what not to wear.
SO SO BORING. I didn't learn anything in her class. Essay prompts are relatively easy but completely and utterly mind-numbing boring. Doesn't help at all with editing papers either and hard to get in touch with at that. Class usually consists of doing pointless worksheets and exercises. Sit by the wall so you can lean against it and sleep.
This was the most
This was the most BORING class ever!!! She is fairly nice but a harsh grader. I wanted to kill myself every class because it was such a waste of time. The readings are HORRIBLE, LONG, and most of them of hard to understand. Avoid her if you can!!!
Readings are a little long, boring, and most are hard to follow. Very tough grader on essays and test, which are also all essays. Nice lady but class is a little dull
My third least favorite teacher in Auburn, and I'm a senior. Class works are uninteresting, when they aren't mind numbingly boring. Original thought not required for class, take that as you will. Seems set for the lowest common denominator. Tests are moderately difficult, and the essay subjects painfully rigid. Avoid this class if you can. Got a B+
A really nice lady, but an extremely boring class. It's very obviously a core requirement class, and as long as you read the books you can pass it with a C at least. On the other hand, this made me decide to change out of being an English major. She makes a real effort and is very pleasent, but the class is just plain dull.
TAKE HER!! despite her "cute" apperance, she is a great teacher... she cares how you do and will help you if you need it! attendance helps your grade... she is the only world lit 1 teacher that doesnt give quizes on the readings... as long as you go to class and involve yourself in the discussion you get participation points. i got an A
She's a real nice lady and her class is pretty laid back and simple. If you read the assigned works and participate in the actual discussions in class it is not boring plus she'll raise your grade at the end of the semester. She's only a picky grader on the papers, not anything else. I got an A.
She might be a good literature teacher, but she is a horrible women's studies teacher. The class is extremely boring even though it could certainly be interesting. She is no help at all and when you ask her questions, she tells you to ask your classmates. The paper was murder because her guidelines are ridiculous!!
She is very sweet and helpful. There are only 6 assignments, two papers, two tests, a skit and a debate so you really have to do well on those to make a good grade but she goes over everything so if you show up and participate(for extra points) you will do well.
Easy Class. Her lectures can be boring, but as long as you show up to class and do the assigned reading, you'll do fine. She is super nice and willing to help if you ask. I would definitely take her again
This was the most boring and painful class i had to sit through all semester. She was clueless most of the time during class, took forever to grade paper, and has the most annoying voice ever. I would not recommend her to anyone for engl comp 2
For world lit 1. She is a good teacher. All you have to do is take notes on class discussions and you don't have to actually read if you do this. I got an A and didn't read at all. Use her points in class when writing your answers on the test. Not a hard class at all
Braumbaugh is interesting. She expects too much from you when all she does is give a handout on what to write a paper about. Her class is incredibly boring and will do so many pointless activities. ONLY plus to this class is that you don't have class when you have conferences instead.
Dr. Brumbaugh's class is EXTREMELY BORING. However, if you do the work, you'll get a good grade. I never really read, and I did fine. Take notes and mention what she says in your essay. She is a pretty easy grader and will consider inprovment when calculating final grades, so that's good. The socratic seminars are annoying.
This class wasn't too hard to get a decent grade in but warning- it is EXTREMELY BORING. She basically just talks at the class the whole time and occasionally asks questions. Raise your hand often and say random stuff and your participation will be good. She considers improvement which is very nice as well.
Fair grader-but VERY BORING. I drew pictures of fish the entire time just to keep from falling asleep. Her voice is just a monotone, and she can talk for an hour and fifteen minutes straight. Attendence is mandatory, so you can't skip. If you do take her class, make sure you have something to occupy your time.
Some of the assignments were crazy though she an easy grader. She can talk for an hr and fifteen minutes .solid. She could improve on her emailing skills. You'll never get just one, there might possible be 3 more corrected versions following the first one. Overall, I think she is a good teacher and a sweet woman.
Reading is mandatory and she doesn't take hints from the class when material isn't understood as a whole. You have to be a FABULOUS writer to receive even a decent grade. Very hard grader for my class. Would count off on midterm for minor words left out of definition questions. Stay away
I love Prof. Brumbaugh. Her personality is just slightly strange in the most awesome way. Once you get into it, it's actually a lot of fun to analyze readings with her. I did half my reading via sparknotes, and still pulled an A. The people that were bored would have been bored in any lit class because Prof. Brumbaugh is definitely fun to watch
Avoid at all costs. Seriously. Lady can talk for the ENTIRE hour and fifteen minutes without taking a breath. Can't use computers or anything in class. If you're not a good writer, forget it. 2 essays & 2 (all short answer essay) tests that are 90% her opinion, so unless you like taking notes of her monotone voice the whole time, drop this class.
The amount of information she teaches in one hour could be taught in five minutes. She tends to go on rants and takes forever to get grades back to you. She's helpful but highly specific, so if you don't write according to her style, you won't do well. This class was a waste of time and a bore, but the readings were interesting! Participate!
The review saying her test are her opinion is totally wrong. If you read and understand the material covered, you have no problem on the test and papers. She is very detailed in her grading, but fair. Read, go to class (mandatory), and study then you will get at least a B easily.
She's not an easy grader, but she's not too terribly tough either. My papers would come back with red ink all over from her corrections, but I never got less than an A on a paper. Class is pointless but mandatory. Get ready for lots of group work. She's very understanding and will work with you. She truly loves English so she wants others to also.
She's a good teacher overall and I would recommend her. Her lectures were definitely long-winded, but I learned a lot and wouldn't call it a bad experience. She's very helpful when it comes to her essays, so just email her and ask for feedback and this class could be an easy A.
This class was an easy A for me and my classmates. I never read a single book but as long as you write down what she says about the writings then you'll be good to go!! I never got less than an A on any test or essay. She does mark papers a lot, but super easy grader. She makes great points about literature and you can tell she truly loves it.
I loved Dr. Brumbaugh!! Her lectures a long but she goes over the readings in so much detail (sooo helpful). Take notes on what she says because it will be VERY helpful when studying for her exams. Although she takes awhile to grade, her feedback is extensive and wonderful. She is super nice and cares so much for her students. Take her! :)
horrific grader. Takes forever to get any kind of grade back from her and her ruberic is about as vague as I've ever seen. Don't think the same way she does on a topic? Expect a C on that paper no matter how good it actually is. If she likes you, its an easy A but if she doesn't for whatever reason, go ahead and try again with someone else.
Typical Day: you answer a discussion question on the reading, she talks in circles about the reading, so if you don't read the book, it is okay, but pay attention in class. Very boring, but don't skip class. Takes about 1 month to get grades back. Extremely picky and opinionated, but you will end up with a good grade. 2 essays, 2 tests.
Dr. Brumbaugh definitely isn't the worst professor I've had at, but she isn't the best either. She assigns very few assignments that are extremely spaced out, and don't expect her to have your essays or tests graded before at least a month has passed. However, she is very passionate about the subject and will give help if you ask for it.
she's horrible her class is irrelevant she makes it whatever she wants
Easy class but take a different teacher because she is mind-numbing
She was not ready to teach women's studies. let people yell at each other in her class and just sat there. She is very sweet, but this was taught as a lit class, not a women's studies class. picky grader. DO NOT TAKE
she makes you read before every class. participation matters. only had a midterm, powerpoint/essay, and the final, but they were easy. just had to memorize important women figures from the books. but i just look them up on the internet. we discuss what we read in class and sometimes watch parts of a movie towards the end of class.
Painfully boring lectures, but relatively easy class. I fell asleep in this class a couple times (something I never do), but still made it out with a 94. If you participate in lectures, take good notes, SHOW UP TO CLASS, and have a rough idea of what is happening in the books, you'll be good to go. It's not hard to make an A or B in her class
She's horrible. Sitting through her class was torture, I literally dreaded that class coming up every Tuesday and Thursday. Don't take her.
Petty with grading if you don't always attend. Looks like the divination teacher from Harry Potter and sounds like her too.
Her class was a very easy A but it was absolutely dreadful to sit through. I never cracked a book & followed her study guides which are KEY. I also wrote the papers the day before & made As. She gives you only 4 unexcused absences before she starts counting points off your average, which is durable but the class is hard to go to.
Brumbaugh is somewhat strange but very nice and loves the subject. We had two tests, a final, and two papers. In class discussion counted as participation, so speaking up helps. Tests are easy if you memorize answers to study guide. Didn't read much of any of the assigned books and did well. Takes forever to grade essays.
In high school I hated English and writing papers. Brumbaugh's class isn't bad at all in my opinion. In 1100 you write four papers each around four pages long. The class is very boring itself and she does take attendance. But if you participate she gives you a grade for it and it really helps your overall grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Every class feels like time is a stand-still and you will get to leave. She goes on and on and on. It takes her forever to get any point across. There is no socialization or fun to be had. We just sit and listen for the entire time. Also the amount of reading is UNREAL! Learned nothing!!!
This class was an easy A in my opinion. Her classes are very long and boring to sit through but take notes. Everything she says in class about the discussion questions are answers to study guide questions that appear on tests. I never read a single book and threw in 1-2 vague sentences about discussion questions for participation and got an A.
She is just annoying. Takes her forever to get to a point and drones about stuff that she's went over 15 other times. Just super boring, but not super hard. The papers are graded fairly if you go by her requirements outlines and rubric.
This class is very very boring but I did not read one book the whole semester. If you listen and take notes in class it is an easy A. 2 Tests and 2 Essays, very manageable. Only allows 3 absences the whole semester though.
The class is very boring, but she is a good teacher and prepares you for essays well. There is a lot of assigned reading and you have to write about it for the final, so it is important that you do it throughout the semester. Nice lady, but if you're looking for a super fun class I would take someone else.
She's fantastic, not too hard. Take notes on the class discussion!! She split us into groups every class to answer questions about the reading; there's a lot, but usually a skim is sufficient since you have class time to review your section. Takes a while to grade but gives very detailed/helpful feedback. 2 essays (10% each), 2 tests, and a final.
This class was not fun to go to by any means. Lectures sucked, grade turn around times was extremely bad. You have to put in a lot of effort just to get a B on papers. Nothing to look forward to. Try to find a better teacher.
You are basically paying to be in a very boring book club. In a 50 minute class we usually spend the first 40 minutes doing roll call, getting into groups, and answering discussion questions only among the students. I wish she would just teach us without the pointless group discussions among other students.
Classes are very boring. Whats supposed to be a group discussion becomes her droning on for 50 minutes. Due dates change frequently, and she takes months to grade things. Instructions are incredibly wordy. She is clearly very knowledgeable of the subject.
75 min zooms are waste of time, but mandatory, most of it is just spent with her figuring out how to use a webcam and canvas. We spend time reading random sources for no reason. Essay was due at 8 am, at 2 am she changed the due date to 5 days later. Struggled to make Bs on essays and i'm a journalism major. Takes 4 weeks to grade 4 page essay
I understand that being online is challenging, but she makes it near impossible. I've never had a professor change due dates for papers so frequently. Not to mention she changes them at like 2AM. She took months to give any feedback on a paper. She drones on and on and doesn't seem to understand the concept of using time productively. Stay away.
Final paper was extended nine days. She said it was because students as for more time, when in reality it is because we have not received the grade on our last essay that was due 34 days ago. 9 days left to submit final grades, and there are still 7 outstanding assignments. Stay away from her at all costs
Just like others are saying, paper was due first week of November. It took 32 days to get essay back. I understand you have hundreds of students, but have better time management. NEVER have I ever had a teacher take this long. I know have less than 36 hours to make edits for the final 3,000 word essay based on feedback that was just now given to me
She takes an extremely long time to grade essays, sometimes only giving you your feedback the hours before your next paper is due, giving you little to no time to correct any mistakes or errors. Her classes are mostly just lectures, droning on and on and mostly unproductive. Must keep camera on at all times and attendance is mandatory.
She is a very nice person, but her class is all over the place. I felt like there was something new every day and the essays had a lot of criteria and I had a hard time understanding what we were supposed to be doing. She does not give back grades for a while.
fine as a person but her class is very boring/unorganized. She is crazy about participating in class but talks for 45 of the 50 minutes herself so its difficult to talk unless about your breakout room question. She grades tests one question at a time so your grade gives you a scare. Essays take over a month to be graded. take someone else
LOTS of reading, sometimes 60 pages between classes. You have to understand almost all of it, so you have to go to class for her to explain. Lectures are participation based, and grades are based off 3 essay-type tests and 2 1200 word papers. She is pretty good at explaining the content and making it digestible but takes forever to grade papers.
She is the most unorganized confusing teacher I've ever had. She rambles on for an hour and expects everyone to know what she's talking about. I literally have no idea how I made an A, her grading is just as confusing. She once took off 2 points on my test for saying "the book" opposed to "genre." Don't take if you have any other option. SO BORING!
She's a nice woman but she's all over the place. Classes felt very unorganized, and while we were supposed to be in a discussion section, we would spend the class answering lists of review questions (find and point to the answer kinds of questions with nothing to discuss) or she would spend the whole time rambling at the front of the room.
It's finals week and many midterm papers aren't graded. 3 weeks for second exam to get graded. Lots of reading, make sure you understand it all for essay-type exams. There are study guides, but they can be sort of vague. Important points of the lectures aren't clearly defined. I felt like I was thrown out to sea even though I made an A. Good luck
Barbara was a very nice but her class is very very boring and you are required to speak for participation credit. Every class is the same - read a chapter assigned to you or your group and answer your discussion question to the class. I would avoid her class if you can.
she is a very nice and understanding woman, but attendance and participation are mandatory. this class is so boring, and you're going to actually have to read the material for the exams you take. generally overall, a very mid professor and very mid course. hope that litcharts and sparknotes can help you.
She isn't a bad teacher but the class is super boring and she will extend every due date about a month so it takes forever to get grades. Not a bad choice if online isn't available but be prepared that you only get 3 absences and there are almost daily in class activities and quizzes. Not a bad teacher, just very boring.
The amount of work in her class compared to any other class Im taking (as an engineer) is absurd. I should not have to turn in 3 different minor assignments per Essay (which are graded harshly, as I got a bad grade on a reflective piece on my own work) on top of taking 2 pop quizzes in ONE day on occasion.
Emphasis on the "lots of homework", there are at least 2-3 homework assignments per week. Every major deadline is pushed back about half a month and by the end of the semester, you will have very little time to write your final essay. Each essay has about 2 extra assignments to do on top of the essay.
This class truly was a waste of time. She is dated and has barely changed her style of teaching this core class. Her classes were boring and did not pertain to helping us but teaching us basic things like comma rules. No guidance. Randomly moves due dates. 3 papers, 1 oral report, 1 annotated bib, hw, and pop quizzes. Final is 8-10 pages in a week.
If you are in a major that requires a lot of time, do not take her, the homework and work load was more than any of my major classes.
Professor Brumbaugh is very nice but she is tough on grading and was typically behind. All the exams were similar but require memorization rather than conceptual learning. She grades very slowly and took 2 months to grade our first essay. Class is mandatory so definitely attend but overall the class wasn't too bad. Definitely participate.
This is the worst class at Auburn. It's a core class, so it shouldn't be that difficult. I had to work extremely hard and spend hours studying. Attendance is mandatory, and she never cancels class or lets you out early. Her lectures are boring, and she gives pop quizzes, which are important for your grade. The exams and essays are graded harshly.
Not horrible, but extremely boring classes where she talks the entire time. Also a reading quiz after almost every class.
A very confusing and material-heavy course structure, but otherwise an approachable class. Attendance is pretty strictly enforced, after 5 missed classes points are taken off of your final grade. Read the texts and pay attention to the in-class discussion and you'll have an A. Expect to read
Don't choose her because her grade is very strictly.
Can't exactly say anything bad about Brumbaugh - she is very passionate about what she is teaching and wants participation regardless of the day. Reading quizzes held at random - she will review the answers during the class discussion so if you pay attention during class, you oughta be fine. Try and take another literature though/strict on absences
Takes forever to grade anything and is VERY strict with her grading. Sometimes it felt like she enjoyed not giving out 100's to anyone. Attendance is mandatory and sometimes she'll give out pop quizzes. Overall, she can be nice but I would avoid taking her at all costs. Take someone else if possible, if not be prepared to focus and work.
The WORST teacher I've ever had. If you don't study for at least 3 hours a day, you'll fail. Do not take this class.. She requires you to read about 100 pages every class, she just rambles throughout class, and her tests are all writing.
Brumbaugh was a very easy grader. Required very little reading and participation points are very easy to get in this class as she leads you to answer questions, practically giving answers. Probably one of the Easiest A's someone could possibly get, looked at the ratings and was scared, but in the end this class was very easy. No Paper for class.
She is a nice lady, but she does wayyyy to much. She pushes back due dates to the point that you might have 6 assignments due in one week. She gives random quizzes so make sure you pay attention. She also deducts points for leaving the class (restroom breaks included).
Most of the class time was spent showing us how to do small details of an assignment that wouldn't help, on assignments that would never be applicable to anyone. The worst part was that over half of the major papers were never graded, but instead of getting a 100 they just didn't count.
Brumbaugh's class is material-heavy but manageable if you stay engaged. Attendance is strictly enforced, so come prepared. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for review - highly recommend.
Honestly I would avoid at all costs. Not a bad teacher but was extremely disorganized with grading. Our major assignment (the huge research paper) never received a grade and many other assignments, same thing. Also she will take off points from your attendance grade for going on your phone so beware of that. Overall not a hard class, but its a pain
She just yaps all period, exams are all written out maybe 2/16 multiple choice questions. Do not recommend especially with how much reading she expects you to do at home.
I had to make this rating now. I am in her class when writing this and I am losing my mind. All she does is yap about writings that you will never even hear about again in your life and then makes the exams have essay questions about the literature you read. Actually one of the worst professors I have had
All these other ratings are overdramatic. This is one of the easiest classes I've taken. Her tests are word for word like the study guide. However, it's a lot of reading and can be boring because she spends a lot of time going over readings. Pay attention, speak a couple times for participation points, and you'll make an A. She's very nice too.
Brumbaugh is so nice, yes her classes are material heavy but honestly this class is not hard if you attend class and pay attention. She goes over the stories and points about the texts in class which you can use for the essay portions on the exams. She grades tough but I have made A's on all exams and it's not like I read all the assigned texts.
Quite possibly the worst professor I've encountered in my tenure at Auburn. She is an extremely harsh grader, her instructions are unclear, and the amount of work is ridiculous. Although I took a "mini-mester" I've NEVER had the amount of work that I did in her ENGL 3080. Avoid at all costs.
