Very helpful/understanding. Interesting stories that help the students remember events.
She is an excellent teacher. She starts off class with a word bank and by the end of class you have talked about every single person or event on that list. She only has you read one reading from the book. Her tests come right out of the notes, so you don't even have to use the book.
Great speaker, very easy to understand... She does fly though, so note taking can be hard.
She makes class very interesting. She has lots of energy that she puts into her lectures. Take good notes and her class is a breeze.
GREAT TEACHER. SHE TEACHES HISTORY LIKE IT IS ONE BIG STORY I LOVE HOW SHE TEACHES AND HER TESTS COME STRAIGHT FROM HER LECTURES SO TAKE GOOD NOTES!!
I have her currently this semester and I love her class. She tells history like a story and that way its interesting and easy to remember. I am always bad at remembering what came when, but the way that she teaches has helped me out with that a lot.
She teaches good but her tests are hard.
I had Mrs.Burns last semester for Hist.101 and she is so great that I took her again this semester for 201. I advise any one who takes her to get a tape recorder. FABULOUS INSTRUCTOR!!!!!
I think she talks to the class with much disrespect - I'm currently a student of hers and she seems to talk to the class as though we don't know very much. She's cold! However, her class is easy to follow and her tests strictly cover the notes.
I loved Mrs. Burn's class. It always felt like story time in there and she's a great story teller. She kept us interested in the material. Her test questions were kind of tricky, but if you study, a good grade should be made. :)
eh... she's alrgiht... she is kinda like one of those "I am woman, hear me roar types." I got an 89 on the first test and 94 on the second test, but I wound up having todrop the class b/c I wasn't aware of her stupid attendence policy!
Amazing teacher, I learned a lot and enjoyed the class. She is one of the best history teachers I have ever had. She is amusing and straight forward. I also like how she has control of her class and doesn’t allow others to be disturbing. she takes her tests directly from the lectures
Great teacher. Best one to take. GET A TAPE RECORDER!!!!! B/C YOU won't be able to keep up and it helps alot.
She is not the friendly, but very interseting
She is a good teacher, although she do not round off her final grade. If you make a 79.5, she will not give you a B. She does not compromise.
very tough but interesting! I loved this class. shes very smart and knows her stuff!!
She is such a great teacher. She explains what is going on around the world (at the time in history), she connects ideas and historical concepts, and she really makes history interesting.
Very good teacher. She isn't that easy but if you study and read (as well as go to class) you will learn a lot.
Mrs. Burns was a good teacher. A little overbearing sometimes. Don't let your phone ring in class, don't come in late or leave early... the basics =) Take notes and study and you'll do fine. She's helpful during office hours too. Knows her textbook history. Doesn't assign too much pointless reading either.
I hated this teacher, I got good grades, but instead of teaching she told stories, then tested you on what she said even if what she said wasn't true, or wasn't in the book. Silence your cell phones and come on time and leave on time, do your bonus work and she can't keep you from gettin good grades, but i hated her.
She was a good story teller, made history very interesting. Don't let her catch you using your cell in class, she gets so pissed and she won't let you eat in class. I got good grades in her class even though some of her test questions were a lil tricky. Overall good teacher.

Tells great stories. Really cares about her students. My favorite teacher at SLU
extremely good lecturer...tests are a lil tricky but not if u know the material. i really liked her class...one of my fav's
She is a great teacher! One of the best in the History Dept.!
she is cool
As long as you pay attention (which you should) shes your best friend!
I plan to follow her through Hist 202. She is a great teacher who tells a story, not a lecture. She puts the key terms on a powerpoint and touches on each (in order) while shes talking. Good attitude as long as someone doesnt do something dumb. Accessible and lets you look at past tests. Tests are hard only if you don't study. Great Teacher!
Fun teacher that makes learning and understanding history easy. Highly recommend.
I was only mildly interested in History when I enrolled in this class. Now I have decided to take this as my secondary teaching area.
the test are totally different from the study notes it seems to me.
I LOVE THIS TEACHER, go to class, study notes and study guide and you will make an A. You must go to class though.
Class is one big story that goes by. I had an 8:00 class and was never sleepy bc of her speeking skills. She lets out early and all you need is the notes for the test.
I have a 3.8, and if i would have stuck with this class, my GPA would haver gone sooo down. Pulled an all-nighter for her first test and made a D b/c so much other info was covered. She was rude when i talked to her too. So i disagree with these people-much better teachers r out there!!

this teacher is great she is clear doesn't put me to sleep and very intresting. you have to do all notes so don't miss a class or get a buddy. her test are based on notes only. i got an A
AT first I thought I was going to like her because she was nice. But was I wrong. Her test are really hard and I did study my butt off. I needed 5 point to get a C which I needed for my finaical aid, but of course she couldnt help me. She does give bonus but you have to be a genuis to get them right!
She is the most amazing speaker. I would go to her class for fun. But not for a CLASS, because I can't afford an "f." She tests you on the most obscure crap on earth, and she's really rude. She thinks if you don't do well, you didn't work. I have a 4.0, and I have never worked so hard in my life, and I stil had to drop her because I was failing.
she tells history like a story but u must keeps up she is a fast talker but this is the most interesting history class i have taken as the boring subject goes
Really good teacher, test are some what different from study guide but are somewhat confusing. Really good class but studying is required. Take her if you really want to learn and get a good grade! also only give 2 chances for bonus points!
Her lectures are interesting but she talks so much and for so long that you end up with millions of notes. And her tests are super hard. This is the only class I've made a "C" in so far!
She makes it very interesting..I actually enjoyed history lectures. Not an easy A though...you better be ready to study! And you have to study alot...lots of notes. The only plus is its easy to listen to the lectures without falling asleep.
Great teacher. easy to listen to. You have to read the chapters. Her test are very hard but her map quizzes help you out. You have to attend class or she takes 10 pts off final grade but its worth going to
if you have a short attention span then i would take this teacher. i have add really bad and her stories keep me focused and wanting to go to class..
Great teacher, tells a story. The only class I actually still remember the info from a semester later. Not much help to go to her office but you shouldn't need to if you go to class and study. Test aren't to bad, you'll take 4. Worth the time and effort.
she is the hardest teacher i have taken so far, i had one point away from a C and she would not round it...if history is not your best subject, DO NOT take her...she talks way too much, your hand never stops and she keeps you almost the whole time everyday, we never had a class cancelation
She dictates notes, ALOT of notes. In fact, the entirety of her class is notes, so a laptop computer is vital to getting a good grade. Attendence policy is cut-throat, so DONT MISS CLASS! If you input into class and ask alot of questions, she'll like you alot more. course setup for mostly FROSH mentality... Upperclassmen, get someone else.
SHE'S THE MAN
Excellent teacher!!!! The best history teacher at Southeastern!!!!!!!!
Shes the best History teacher! I took her for Western Civ. She knows her material and her lectures are very organized. At the begining of the class she puts up a list of key words that she will be using in her lectures. EASY to take notes. But you have to study study study
This teacher is so good she gives alot of notes but the tests are right from them her maps are usually easy too all you have to do is go to class and review your notes to pass
She is a great story teller! she tells stories in great detail straight from her head! She talks really fast, and its hard to take notes sometimes. The test do not reflect what was talked about in the lecture.
She is a good teacher she makes class interesting by the stories she tells! But i dont like her test her test are really hard to understand and confusing! i will study forever and get the test and make a 66% so her test are difficult and dont really have anything to do with the stories she tells in class!
Great teacher. She helps athletes, but I recommend taking her class during the off season. She was willing to get notes for me and allowed me to give her a tape recorder to tape her lectures. She is a GREAT teacher. She makes the lectures fun to listen to, she's not boring. If you're an auditory learner she is a good teacher to take. ST-A
She really makes the class interesting. She uses stories to explain the material. She gives plenty of helpful tips about her tests.
she is an awesome lady...full of witty comments.. keeps class interesting.
Great professor . I love her and she is very structured and she knows her history. Funny
You will nver go to sleep in this class, very interesting, she is a great teacher who knows her material, study and work hard go to the bonus lectures and you shoud do fine, dont miss more than 3 days or you want get the bonus and trust the bonus helps tremendously, if your just looking to get an easy A and can care less about history...DROP now...
Nice teacher. Her class is very interesting. I typed all my notes in class, and for each exam I had about 30 pages of notes. So, get ready to write and study A LOT! Her test have nothing to do with the stuff she says in class. If it was up to me, DONT TAKE HER!!!!!
This is not a hard class. All you have to do is attend and pay attention to her lectures. Go to every class and write down everything she says and i mean everything. For the tests, just study your notes. The questions are multiple choice and not complicated. She is a great teacher!
I do not recommend anyone take her. She's a really sweet woman and I loved how she taught but her tests are REALLY hard. I had to withdraw because i did so poorly on her tests!
Dr. Burns is an excellent professor. Prior to attending her class, I disliked history very much. Now, I have an appreciation for it. She teaches history in a story format and does not emphasize when but rather who and what.
Her tests are hard as hell...You can study every time you get out of her class and still make an F or D....She ask very complicating questions that's really not on her notes....And she lectures forever and it's so hard to comprehend and write at the same time. Slooowwww doooowwwwnnn!!!!!By the way she does not curve...
Easy teacher as long as you go to class. Easy A with a little work. Easy B if you just show up and listen. Offers bonus. You read one story out of text book for each test that is all the reading you will have to do.
I had her Am. hist class. You must go to class to copy notes. I passed with a low B. I probably could have had an A if I would have put up more of an effort. She usually puts about 1 or 2 questions from the reader on the test, which is very easy if you speed read it. You must take notes***
I loved her! She makes class interesting! she tells a story! Her test are hard so you can't blow it off! I did good on her test except for the questions from the reader because i never did read!
Rude and arrogant! Have to admit, she knows her stuff, but her voice was unbearable
If you do not like History take her! Her class was awesome because she kept you hooked the entire time! I WILL take her again.
This is an easy class as long as you take notes on key terms given in class. Also learn your maps those quizzes are easy As. Makes History as interesting as possible. Highly recommend taking her.
Mrs. Burns is the easiest teacher at SLU. If you like history or not, I recommend you take her. She pretty much paints an image of what she is talking about in your head.
great teacher! highly reccomended
the stories she tells during class are interesting but alot of her test questions were not in her lecture.
talks alot, be prepared to take notes. test are kind of hard. she interests you in the subject though. overall a good teacher
She provides an excellent view of American History through stories.
I really enjoy this class. She does talk fast, and I end up with gaps in my notes. I bring a recorder to class and type the notes later or go back to parts I missed. You need to go to every class. She offers up to 10 bonus points for 2 easy assignments and you can get up to 3 bonus points on each test. I have never opened the text book. I have an A
JUST TAKE HER!! any lecture class will have difficult tests, hers arent tooooo bad. Just dont let your phone go off during an exam or you fail. Other than that, easy for a history class!
makes something really boring (in my eyes) and makes it interesting! test are kinda hard, but just show up to class and study and you'll do fine. definetly take her!
West Civ. was never my forte, but this woman was good. She lectures like she's telling kids bedtime stories. That was good for those of us who like history, but cannot remember it. I actually remember a lot of what she taught me because of her teaching style.
I really liked the way that she taught, but she sometimes put too many wars and revolutions on one test, but if you go to class and study you should be okay.
She is an amazing teacher! I looked forward to attending class everyday. Her lectures are in the form of stories so it's very easy to follow and remember. She has a unique sense of humor. Her tests are somewhat difficult but if you study your notes, you will do fine. I would love to take her again.
She is extremely easy. If you cannot make an A in her class, you shouldn't be in college. Take notes and study them and you get your A. Do not eat in her class or she will make you pass it around the entire room.
She is absolutly amazing, i loved her class and looked forward to it. She has passion for what she teaches and it is contagious. you have to take her class!!! I strongly urge you to do so.
Burns is a great teacher! To make an A all you have to do is go to class and take notes. There is no reason to read the text. Her lectures flow and are really interesting and easy to remember.
Very easy to understand. She makes everything make sense and is always willing to explain further. There is no need for the book as long as you take notes.
Ms. Burns is a great teacher! Her lectures are very easy, she tells them like a story. And its easy to comprehend. The map quizzes are a 25 pt gimme. As long as you attend class, take notes, you will pass the class. Her tests are a little difficult but nothing extreme. T A K E H E R !
Mrs. Burns is an awesome teacher. She tells stories while she is giving notes and makes it interesting. She is very funny at times. Her map quizzes are very easy. Her tests are a little difficult, but if you study you will get a decent grade. If you take notes, you never have to use the book. It's great! She is a wonderful teacher! Take her
Great teacher. She gives at least 10 bonus points if you show up to class without missing more than 3 classes. She teaches well and makes the subject interesting. Just take her.
100% best Hist. teacher. I have never liked history and always done bad until Mrs. Burns class. She teaches by basically story telling. She is awesome i got an A in her class. Must attend class but if you dont pass then your an idiot! So easy with her!!
She is the best teacher that I have ever had while at SELU. I wish she taught ever subject. She is excellent at explaining things. She also gives map quizzes that are a piece of cake, study guides, and she allows you to get bonus just so long as you have no more than 4 absences. I have taken her for HIST101 and 201. I recommend her to anyone!
Somewhat boring, confusing at times; mixes up settings and ppl name... maybe its me idk, but it was not at all an interesting class. i loved history til now....
She is a great history teacher. her lectures are clear and easy to understand. my first test wasn't so great but i kept improving every time. her test are soo easy! just study and go to class
She's one of the best teachers I've ever had. I hated history, but she made it extremely interesting and very easy to understand. I made high B's on all of her tests. Just imagine how well I would have done had I studied correctly, instead of cramming the night before. less than 4 absences=bonus. Not hard, just pay attention & take notes. Take her!
She is an amazing professor. I wasn't interested in history until I took her class. She teaches by telling stories, and has a high energy level. If you attend class regularly and take notes, you'll be pleased with your grade. She offers bonus points to student with four absences or less.
Her tests are a bit tricky, they make you think. Overall, Mrs. Burns is an amazing teacher though. When she gives her lectures, she tells them in the form of a story which helps keep you interested. I would definitely recommend her. :)
Yeah, she makes her lecture interesting, but it's OUT OF ORDER! Her tests are very ambiguous, and I went to every class and took notes. She gets rave reviews, so maybe she just had a bad semester, but I'm never taking her again! BE CAREFUL!
She is a great lecturer, knows her stuff. Tries to make it interesting by telling stories, which are never on the tests. Test are tricky, must know the info. Reading assignments are not important. maybe two questions on the test and if you know the basic topic, you can get the questions right. Too many absences, no bonus for you.
she is easy, if you want to actually come to college and study. u will bomb the first test, but after that you learn how to take better notes. Study guide is useful BUT it is not a "give you the answers" study guide. you have to use your book and notes to find information on the topics listed on the study guide. Notecards will save your life.
go to class take notes and study and you will do fine. gives lots of bonus opportunities too. But you can only have for absent four times excused or not to keep your bonus points.
She is a good teacher overall, the only thing I didn't like about her was all the notes you have to take, but her notes are just terms you have to know, so if you memerize all the terms she gives you in class, the test will be easy, and I must say I really enjoyed her class.
She is very easy just take good notes and study them the night before and i guarantee that you will get at least a B.
You must go to class, take good notes, and study! All of her exams come from the notes. Offers no more than 10 extra credit points and you must not miss more than 4 days or your bonus points will be removed. It is possible to get an A, but you will have to work for it.
Very interesting and very nice. She is helpful. You do have to study for her test. Her lectures are amazing and so interesting. I want to take more of the history classes she teaches just for fun.
She is a great professor!
I got a B in her class, but just barely. Her lecture skips around a lot and is somewhat hard to follow. Maybe she just had an off semester when I took her, but I hated it. The tests were also WAYY hard. To get a B I had to study every single night for two-three weeks and practically memorize my notes to ace the final. Take Chauvin instead.
She is a really good teacher. She makes history interesting to learn. I am taking her again next semester.
I loved Mrs. Burns. She is very knwoledgable about history, and gives the best lectures!!! I have always really liked history, so this class came easier to me than for others. I made a's on all 4 of her test. only three choices per answer. if you know the basics of what she teaches, her tests are really simple.Reader is not important so dont stress
Great teacher!! Definitely one of my favorite teachers, and i use to despise history classes. Her lectures are like stories and you will get really into them. I would recommend her to anyone!
Mrs. Burns is a story teller and ALL verbal notes. Sometimes her tests are very difficult. She gives a lot of bonus opportunities though! Study a lot, and you will pull off an A.
Professor Burns is by FAR my most favorite professor thus far at Southeastern. Her lectures are always interesting stories, and she is extremely enthusiastic. She doesn't put up with nonesense (texting, talking loud while she's lecturing, etc.), but she is still extremely sweet. Helpful, always smiling, extremely interesting. I RECOMMEND!
I had her for HIST 101 and liked it so much that I took her again for 202. She's a strict about adherence to her syllabus rules(make-ups etc.) but the lectures are great, and if you go to class regularly the tests wont be difficult in the least.
AMAZING TEACHER! Her lectures were the best. Everyday after I got home I would re-write the notes that I took from class to help me reorganize everything and for the tests all I had to do was re-read all my notes a couple of times. Her lectures are just big stories and so interesting. She is one of the best teachers I've had. TAKE HER CLASS!
I see all of the great ratings about Barbara Burns on here, but they are totally inaccurate. If she does not like you, she will make your life miserable. She asks you to skip other classes to do field experience for her class. That is not okay.
Barbara Burns is a power hungry faculty member. She is very inconsiderate and wants the world to revolve around her schedule. Sorry Barbara, but my time is just as important as yours.
Ms. Burns is incredibly rude. She does not care about you. All she cares about is herself. She is very selfish and if things do not go her way, then she
Takes FOREVER to enter grades for dual enrollment students. Online course is a little tricky but manageable.
Kind of strange that she is the one grading us for the class and evaluation yet she never even met us. When I did sit down to meet her in the office she came of as very rude and disrespectful. And yet she was inconsiderate of my schedule the whole semester. Just plain rude !
