Comes to the class to have fun. is friendly with students, but is always distracting the class and has bad sense of humor. is weird at times. many students feel she is biased as she does not grade based on the content of essays rather focuses on grammar/petty issues. is fir to be a school teacher.
the class is pretty easy. She tends to let you out early but make sure that you know what to write your essay on because she grades the first one easy and then she starts to grade a little harder. There is no final or mid term, just four or five essays and some worksheets.lots of busy work. Shes cool
By far the most unfair teacher I have ever had. Gave me a zero on a huge essay becuase I messed up like 2 things on the formatting. I cited everything(but apparently misplaced paranthesis) and she called it plagarism and failed with me and would not let me do anything to correct it. I do not like he

I thought she was a good, fair instructor as long as you did the assigned work, just like in any class. I learned from her and appreciated her help whenever I asked.
Very laid back class. The class goofed around a lot and she joked with us. Very helpful feedback on essays. Pretty simple class, interesting readings and topics for essays. Easy class assignments. Butler is very cool indeed.
SHE SUCKS!
Most unfair teacher I had ever had. Felt singled out and like she was trying to fail me. Told me my paper was plagarized becuase there was something minorly wrong with the format. Wouldnt let me fix it and told me to drop the class. Over a paranthesis.
Very clear, lets you know exactly what she wants and how each paper will be graded, gives good feedback, and tries to keep the class entertained (although her humor is a little dense at times). In her Eng201 class, you are allowed to pick the research topic so that was a plus. She lets you be creative with your writing, but if you don't fix your grammer mistakes, no amount of creativity is going to save it. Easy A!
She is very poor teacher. She always left a class early (at 10 min to 1 h ). Class is not intrasting. All students want to sleep. She is not ready to be a teacher. Very suck!!!! I doun't unersrand, WHY she is working in BCC????
Sorry to be so blunt but what a **** teacher. Quite a partisan teacher to and graded me because of my ideas and not the content of them. Unbelievable.
She does not suck; the problem is the students in the class don’t want to learn. Its 201 it should be hard. I think she is a pleasant teacher; I actually love her fashion, love her sense of humor, and love her hair cut. “Beautiful”. Be nice to people on your way up because you meet them on your way down. Jimmy Durante
I really liked Ms. Butler. She was very clear in what she wanted. I liked her teaching style too. One problem was that the students really didn't care. Lots of them couldn't write better than a 9th grader in high school-pathetic.
She cares her students a lot.
She is horrible teacher if you ever want to take english 201 stay away from her terrible, terrible teacher. she so confusing.
While she is a very nice person, she is a horrible teacher. The only teacher ive ever had to actually measure margins-- i dont think it gets any more uptight than that. be willing to work very hard in this class. shes not afraid to fail you either...
Ms. Butler omg she is a very orginized person and very VERY VERY hard grader! but besides all that her class is always fun n exciting she is a great person to talk to n is very helpful when needed...get her off topic it is hilarious when she starts talking bout her love in bycicaling n running.
I disliked this teacher a lot. She will take off half your essays points for a single mistake, she rarley actully teaches you anything. I was in her class from 5:30-7:40 and i don't recall actully being taught anything for more than 5 minutes. I never met a english teacher that graded like a math teacher.
All I can say is that I never thought I could hate somebody this much! She doesn't teach you anything. Actually enjoys failing students!
She's a funny person. However she's a really hard grader on essay, but with easy quitz. It's still difficult because essay scores much more than quitzes. I guess the essay grading is too harsh somehow, and it makes student frustrated. However, her lecture is fair and fine. That's not really any problem on it, except someone who cares on grading.
Not a good teacher. lack of knowledge
This teacher grades too hard on her essays. If you write an A paper, she will find any little mistake wrong with it and it instantly turns into a C paper. Try and find a better teacher before going with her.

Ms. Butler was very easy going and I thought, all in all, the class was pretty easy, but I'm an english major. She is very nice, and a little goofy.
Very helpful teacher, she loves her students and tries her best to help them excel. She grades kinda hard on essays, but if you get help from Writing lab before turning them in..you should be fine. She's fun and always happy!!! TAKE HER!!!
Never take her class. Very unprofessional.
The class is tough, even for native english speakers. Yet if you are a good reader and know how to write this class is for you. Overall she does her best and is pretty nice.
Try brown nosing. It helps!
she was so much fun and always up beat and very helpful grades kinda hard tho
I don't think she is not helpful. She care student, but if you don't work seriously, she will take point out. I could learn many basic grammar and writing style from her before entering English 101. If I hadn't taken her class, I suffered from MLA format in English 101. She is nice person.
I THINK SHE IS REALLY NICE AS LONG AS YOU DO THE JOURNALS STUDY FOR THE QUIZZES AND DO WELL ON YOUR ESSAY YOU WILL GET AN A. SHE DOES NOT GRADE AS HARD AS EVERYONE SAYS SHE DOES ON HER ESSAYS PEOPLE JUST NEED TO LEARN TO ASK THE TEACHER WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR. YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR AN A IN ANY CLASS ITS NOT JUST HANDED TO YOU.
She is tough but fair. Not the most lively class or best sturture but she makes sure you are in check with reality.
All she does is expect you to do the work and show up... If you do everything required essays, journals, class participation, and skill builder’s you’re going to pass the class.
Loved her! She taught what she needed to teach and didn't waste time. She is very understanding and is helpful when grading papers. Organization of the class was awesome.
worst teacher i've ever had at bcc
Attendance - if you will be absent at all, don't bother with this class. She doesn't help anyone if they miss a day. Very disorganized, lost two of my assignments, changes due dates. Very hard grader, to the point of ridiculous. She loves her favorite students and singles out others. She has the maturity of the middle school kids she used to teach.
She was good to me. I was honest and communicated with her about my struggles, on HER good days she tried to help me. She boosted my self-esteem in English class. She grades hard (Its clear what is expected) felt great to get an A though. I would take her again for sure. I DO NOT agree with her attendance policy- she always thought students lied.
Class was ok. Butler gives you a schedule, really clear directions, and lots of feedback on essays. It's true you gotta show up, but if you're there and trying, she'll help she met with me to go over every essay before it was due and it made a big difference!!
I took hybrid version and it's totally organized! Any time I had a quesion or a problem I knew I could email and get reply same day (or next morning-Barb doesn't stay up late). Readings are short but mostly interesting. Hybrid is great w/ only 2 classes/week!
WHAT A WASTE of Time!!!! She not only is a tough teacher, but she has an attitude at times. She grades papers at least one grade lower than any other English professor. I learned very little in terms of preparation for a four year university!!! Big waste of time!!!!
The hybrid class in spring was great! And for the last poster, it's FRESHMAN English, how many other English professors have YOU had? Were we in the same class? Butler answered emails the same day had clear assignments and gave tons of feedback on essays. She always related what we did to its use in college and beyond. That's college prep!
Hybrid 101 spring was great. Everything spelled out on assigns & calendar, always answered emails, tons feedback on essays. Previous poster, this is freshman English how many profs have you had??? Even used UW website as source & related assigns to college and beyond = definitely college prep!
tough! would not recommend it unless you major in English.
Challenging but fair. Always know what to expect and extra help if you ask.
Grades tough but is clear on whats expected. When I struggled, I just asked for help and she spents extra time explaining concepts until i had a full understanding. Boosted my confidence and quality of essay writing!
She is a good teacher but is very very strict when it comes to attendance. One of the nicest teachers when you need her help. Normal essays are about 2 or 3 pages long and are not to hard.
Terrible teacher, she expects you to change your current writing style just to match hers . Extremely **** to minorities. Don't take her, way better teachers.
Terrible teacher, just wants you to do busy work. No teaching style feels like high school.
She made this class a great experience. Very helpful, clear dorections, fair grading. I am not a native English speaker, and never took an English writing class before, but I got an A by just following her directions, using textbook and using my brains. Assignments were interesting and moderately challenging, attendance was important.
I took her hybrid class, and it's wonderful. She is very very organized and when you need help it's just an e-mail away! Good teacher, I recommend her if you are willing to attend class and do the work!
Overall, she was a pretty good teacher. The only thing I can say is that whenever I asked her for help, she'd snap at me and she'd make a small scene of it. The class was pretty easy for the most part and I got A's on most of my essays; the only reason I got a B was because I didn't turn some assignments in, but the outcome's still good nonetheless
So I have take Ms.Butler's class since English 092 and now I am in her English 201 the research paper class. Basically I had her for my 3 previous quarters at BC, I actually do not like taking English and thought I would take it at the end of my College career at BC but, she makes it fun. I would suggest taking her English class over any others.
Expectations are extremely clear and exceptions are not made. She is a very strict grader, but that's not a bad thing. She offers a considerable amount of personal attention if needed.
I am currently taking her Hybrid ENGL 101& Class and I love it! No surprises about essays, everything you need to succeed is given to you. Very nice, helpful, I would recommend her.
I took her hybrid class in my first quarter of college... To be honest, I think she is a good teacher, but not for me. I enjoyed the hybrid part of the class, but I don't agree with her teaching/grading styles. She grades rather strictly and the same with her teaching.
Great teacher, great class overall. i highly recommend.
Wow i don't know why this teacher has such a bad rating.English was never my favorite class as I always struggled with it. I took her English 101 class as a hybrid and it was definitely one of the easiest English classes I have ever taken.
101 hybrid was great!! Always answers email by next day, super clear directions, essays back in a week or so with lots of feedback. Ask for help and she will meet with you and review whole essay every time.
Pretty easy class, took it twice as a hyb class for engl 92 and in it now for 101. Teacher is pretty chill and answers your question in a way where you'll understand easily.Grades are mostly from essays, just follow prompt(pretty easy) and you'll do fine. i passed my essays when doing them half asleep or the night of lol
easy to pass but not easy to get an A. she has weird standard for her markings.....if you dont trust me, try her class out:)
I love this teacher! She is very good at teaching and she is so funny. The class was actually fun and I enjoyed going to class. She uses many different activities to teach which is helpful and entertaining. She grades essay's quickly and with lots of feedback. Her instructions are clear and fair. I just like this teacher! I highly recommend her
This teacher is amazing. If you show up to class every day and do the assignments there is no reason to not do well in this class. She is extremely efficent and is always willing to help. If writing is not your strong subject go to the writing lab.I highly recommend her!!
Obviously picks her favorites. Teaches like she is teaching middle school. Papers were interesting to write, but I found the grading to be unfair. Received C's on A-B papers. I know what your thinking but they were very well written paper, she really just didn't like me. Steer clear!!
She is a wonderful teacher. Highly recommended if you are taking english 092 if its one of your first college class. she helps you whenever you need it. quizzes are pretty straight forward if you were in class. follow the essay rubric and you will do great. english is not my favorite subject but she makes it pretty interesting.
Good teacher very straight foward and clear in her expectations in the classroom and in your work. Do the work and pay attension in class and you should do fine.
Barb was a good professor, always helpful and very clear. She always seemed relaxed and was very approachable. Also, the text book we used was not only helpful for her class, but it is still the very thing I turn to whenever I have to write an essay in other classes.
Butler is a great teacher! She makes essay writing easy as you pay attention in reading materials and handbook because her expectations are different from what we normally will expect and not to mention good attendance record will be part of your grade. Really.
Easy class teacher was nice and gave one day to turn in papers after due date for full credit. Overall good experience and I learned a decent amount.
She was a really awesome teacher, I just loved her. The tests are pretty easy and she tells you what you need to do to get an A on the essays.
Nice and helpfull, I would def take her class again
She is extremely clear in telling what is expected in her class. There will be a peer review for each essay, before you turn it in. If you will include everything she asks you in the essay, then you should be able to get an A in her class. Definitely take her class if you want to get a high grade.
Very clear with her directions and expectations. As long as you do all the assignments and attend class you'll get at least a B+
Took the hybrid class. Barbara was great. Steps you through the 4 required essays so there's no huge push at the end to throw the whole thing together. Don't be late, she hates it. Very helpful. Best professor ever!
I took this class on spring 13. Barbara is a great teacher; she is very clear with what she wants. She follows the book, making things easier. She is a hard grader but if you can follow directions you will do fine. She is very helpful and wants you to succeed. I had a personal problem on the first week of class and she was very understandable.
Very good personality. Is easy to approach. Gives you resources to achieve an A. Up to you to get that done.
I'm glad I took this as a hybrid class, met two days a week. I found this class to be fairly boring. Barbara was nice but found her grading to be a little particular, but overall an easy class. All assignments are online, plus a few in class quizzes and peer review.
She's easy to get alone with. She doesn't get on your case unless she is worried your not going to be successful in class. You get points for attendants, so it's a good idea to come to class.
She is super helpful and so so nice. Gives clear instruction and basically lays out exactly how she wants papers to be written. Interesting topics for writing and will go over your essay with you. She is so nice and the work load is light for an English class. Great lady
Barb is great!!! She has clear and to the point instructions, lets you e as creative as you like as long as you are with scope of work required. Happy to assist s long as you are tee to learn.
Barb is really awesome and she goes beyond to help a student. She is very strict on the essays and require full participation. If you want a good grade participate a lot and be productive.
Attendance is a big part of your grade, so if you skip class then you won't pass. She bases her lectures on the essays you will write and is clear on how to get an A on the essays. Her classes are kind of boring. Just make sure you are there especially for peer reviews. The only tests she has are quizzes online that are really easy
Barb was really clear about what we learned in class and the essay's we had to write. PAY ATTENTION TO THE RUBRIC ON ESSAY'S, otherwise you'll land 65 on an A essay. Class is fun and exciting. She is also encourages the writing lab, which can save you from a bad grade.
Barbara is a good professor, but her class is kinda... eh. You can tell she loves English but she is kind of a prude when it comes to following ALL of her rules. Take ALL of your papers to the writing lab before turning them in, she is a VERY TOUGH GRADER. I probably won't take her class again, but if you love English and are majoring I would take.
Instructor butlers very easy going and funny. The rubrics are clear and students get points for showing up for class. Do your work on time and you'll be fine. She's just a tough grader. Do your best
She is a great professor. Her grading criteria is VERY clear and helpful. When she lectures she keeps it short and to the point, and if she doesn't have anything else to say she lets you leave early. although sometimes i felt unprepared for the essays. i don't know maybe it was just me.
I loved taking Barb for English 101. I took her hybrid class and I thought it was pretty easy and straight forward! She is super helpful and doesn't assign a lot of homework. She checks Canvas every morning, is quick to get back to you, and grades fairly easy in my opinion. She does take roll every class though, and counts attendance points.
Barb is a great teacher, especially if you get on her good side. Make her learn your name by asking questions and being interactive and she will love you. She's a pretty easy grader and offers so many opportunities to help you if you need it. I want to take her next fall because she has definitely helped me succeed. She is very clear. TAKE HER!!!!!
Great teacher
She is very nice and helpful. However she is a very harsh grader esp in grading essays
She is just so amazing! Ms Butler grades all essays with clear remarks and also she is generous for extra credit. She will do her best to help you improve your essays homework. I would definitely take her classes again and I highly recommend her. The best English teacher ever.
Barb is an amazing English 201 professor. I took the class in the summer and was able to get through it with ease, even with the shorter timeline. Barb is an excellent communicator, and it is really clear what she expects to get an A. She is a fair grader, and does not include unnecessary tasks or busy work into her assignment list.
Taking her for 201 changed the way I see writing in a great way. For the research paper, she wanted us to write about something we're passionate about, and to make it the best writing we'll ever do in college. It was challenging at times, but her feedback was really helpful. One of Bellevue college's Best
Ms. Butler is great! She is super nice, and always available if you have questions. Definitely take her for English 101! There are only 4 papers and no tests! Love the class!
Barbara is a very knowledgeable, caring professor. She is kind and gives very clear grading criteria. There are four essays and a few (very easy) module quizzes in the class. She is a tough grader. You should feel honored to get a 100% on an essay in Barbara's class because she doesn't just hand out an A. Overall, she is a great, witty instructor.
For some reason I didn't have a great time with her grading my essays, somehow I was always off. To be honest, her lectures put me to sleep so don't take her before 9:30am... Otherwise she gave lots of feedback and was a quick grader and the reading we did was actually interesting..
she is not super easy but she is nice and good at what she does
I took the hybrid. Would be great as online too. Ms. B sets very clear expectations and is amazingly quick to respond to Canvas questions. Cheapest textbook ever, and something you'll keep using! The 4 papers were using interesting material and 750-1000 words. Other assignments were easy A's. Loved that Xtra cred was relevant.
I took a online English 101 course with Butler. It is very clear how assignments and essays are graded. She makes essay rubrics detailing exactly what you need to do to get a "A". All of her weekly assignments are due on Fridays, making it really easy to keep track of. Just do the assignments on time, and you'll get a "A".
I am not a writer, this class was very well organized and was a breeze to get through. Basically all of the assignments are contributing to your final essay, which is a 7-8 page research paper. Professor Butler is very easy to access and provides clear feedback. She also grades just as her rubrics suggest, making it intuitive. Would 100% recommend!
She has a great character and keeps things exciting
Since English 201 is for a research paper, thats basically all you do for this class. She doesn't have any extra assignments that don't relate to the paper in any way. A few quizzes to refresh your memory on citing and quoting, submitting links and then the essay is all the class basically is. Super easy A
This teacher was so helpful. I had her for my first English quarter at BC, and she was awesome!! Super clear and tons of extra credit opportunity. She is very relaxed and she has been at BC for a long time, so she knows her way around canvas and campus. Overall super helpful, funny, and caring. YOU ARE CRAZY NOT TO SIGN UP FOR HER CLASS!!
Ms. Butler is an incredible teacher. The rubrics for her essays clearly state what she expects from your work. A fair grader and many opportunities for extra credit. I recommend setting aside an hour a day for the class to essentially guarantee an A.
I have taken two classes from Butler and she is amazing! I do not feel confident with English but I have received A's on every paper and finished both classes with over 100%. She gives extra credit. I was very impressed with her organization for the online class.
Super easy if you participate. Journals are not very hard.
Most online classes will not have the modules open until the week of, but she keeps them open at the start. Within the first 2 weeks I was 75% finished with the class. 10 journals that will be rolled into your paper. She has only 3 papers. The textbook was only $30. Lots of little quizzes, but you have two chances. 4 module quizzes. Take her class.
Ms B was so well organized. Expectations were very clear and consistent. She gives great feedback. Offers extra credit that is intended to help you do well on the essays. My writing skills improved and her feedback was invaluable. She grades assignments quickly and the modules are very easy to follow.
Great teacher. She opened every assignment to do as quickly or slowly as you wanted and gave good feedback. Lots of extra credit and even messaged me about an error and said I could fix it and turn it in again as long as it was re-submitted in by the due date. I wish she was teaching 201. Super easy A. 100% recommend!
I took this course over the Summer & felt the amount of coursework was appropriate. Assignments only serve to help you with drafting your essay, & lots of extra credit assignments were available. The feedback that Barbara gave was very helpful. Also you likely won't need to buy a textbook, there is a free (and previous edition) version online.
Easiest english class I've ever taken, but I still feel like I learned a lot. We only had 3 essays all quarter, and all the classes and homework assignments were basically working on them. Barbara Butler is a very nice, funny, and helpful teacher.
She's a pretty good teacher. Opened all the assignments at the start of the quarter, really fast grader. She's got 3 essays, and also 3 extra credit chances. Some open book module quizzes, no finals. It was a little boring in her class, but she gave us time to do some of the assignments in class. Really nice, and replies email fast.
Her class was really easy and she responded to emails really quickly. All the modules were open in the beginning. There were 3 essays and 3 extra credit opportunities (Those help a lot). She also graded assignments within a day of completion.
Professor Butler was super helpful and didn't grade too harshly, but was fair. Her class was very easy to get into a routine with and it wasn't very reading heavy. I would definitely take a class with her again.
I took English 201 with Ms. Butler as an online class. She gives multiple extra credit opportunities. Please take advantage of that and do them as assignments. Whenever I had a question, she responded within a timely fashion. The amount of work that was provided was really reasonable. All the work we did had to do with the research paper.
Really good teacher for English 201. All the assignments were related to the one research paper that we wrote. Follow her guidelines and feedback for drafts and you will get that A. The extra credits helps your grade and paper a lot so do it. Grades very fast too. Can be a little picky on grading but it wont hurt your grade if you do extra credit.
I took her online class. She puts everything in b4 hand, makes everything super easy, follow her writing rubrics and you'll get A's. Overall, super easy and fun introductory English class. Definitley reccomended to take her class.
I took her online class. She puts everything in b4 hand, makes everything super easy, follow her writing rubrics and you'll get A's. Overall, super easy and fun introductory English class. Definitley reccomended to take her class. Textbook used: A Pocket Style Manual, Eighth Edition (Hacker and Sommers)
barbara butler is the og. we stan BB. she made the research paper a BREEZE. i also took her for english 101 which was also an easy A and a fun class. if you take her online you have all the freedom to work ahead. soooo nice. highly recommend
I love Professor Butler! She is very clear in her instructions and is kind to her students. As long as you follow instructions you will do great. She also offers a lot of extra credit. Highly recommend!
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! 3 papers, quizzes you can retake twice, 3 extra credit options, discussions you have to respond to. She is easy to ask questions, responds quickly. Organized and clear with what she expects. Textbook required. Easy A . This was my first online class ever and I LOVED it!
Solid online teacher overall. Graded essays in a consistent time frame and offered good feedback as well. I would happily take a class with her again.
A very fun and easy class. You have one paper with a 7-page length. all assignments lead to building the paper up. First turn-in is 3 pages, then 5, and finally 7. Lots of extra credit so getting above 100% is easy. She is really fun and great. I highly recommend her. She makes the class a breeze.
Barbara Butler is the best English professor Ive ever had. She offers lots of extra credit and gives you lots of time to work on assignments. I was nervous to take the Research Paper but it ended up being really good and she provided excellent feedback. Highly recommend.
Her class is very simple, organized, and easy. She gives lots of extra credit to boost up your grade. The assignments help your overall essays. If you want an A, complete the assignments and extra credits using the rubric.
Not super heavy on the assignments & provided clear instruction. Fair grader.
The class is basically just writing 3 essays, with lots of prep work before each one. Pretty tough grader, and not very good feedback (just gives you a textbook page to refer to if you did something wrong). Rubrics are somewhat clear. She let me have a 1 day extension on an essay when I was sick. A few small open note quizzes that you can redo.
Shes a great teacher although her class assigns at least one essay a week, but usually like 300 Words. I forgot to turn in an 1000 word essay 5 days late but she still responded quick and let me turn it in to receive credit!
Ended up with more than 100%, so much extra credit! As long as you follow the rubric you will be fine. Watch out for grammar and formatting. She gives good feedback on papers.
Amazing prof. Lots of extra credit. The knowledge I learned from her class is actually helpful. She gives lots of great feedback and is truly interested in your success. Would take again.
Just do the work and follow the rubrics! Expectations were very clear and do ALL of the extra credit opportunities. All of the feedback leading up to the final research paper will help fine-tune your paper. Overall, an amazing professor and she is always available to help when needed :)
Prof Butler has a really clear criterion and will often point out the little mistakes you make. The way she breaks up essays into Journals (drafts) made writing the final essays easier. You'll be able to see what you need to fix before the final submission. She gives a lot of extra credit chances as well!
Professor Barbara is one of the most outstanding professors I've ever had. She cares a lot about her students, and she always makes sure that students can pass her class. Also, she gives you tremendous amounts of extra credit, so you won't easily fail her class. Take her! I'm sure you'll like it
This class was amazing! There are around 2-4 assignments each week. The assignments consist of mini-quizzes and short writing assignments that help with your essay. There are 3 total essays that you need to write. The grading rubric is VERY clear and as long as you follow and meet the rubric, you will get most points, if not all! Easy A!
Professor Butler's grading criteria are fair and clearly communicated. The course is well-organized and you can work ahead if you want. There are a few assignments each week and 3 larger essays spread across the quarter. If you turn in every assignment on time and do the extra credit (which is easy) you'll get an A.
I loved this class and this teacher! I turned one of my essays in early and she emailed me about things to fix beforehand so it could increase my grade. She's really nice and I could tell she cared about her students. She gives a lot of helpful feedback and lots of extra credit as well. She's a wonderful professor.
Professor Butler's class is very manageable, and her assignment consist of, simple two sentence dissections, open note grammar quizzes and papers. There are three papers throughout the quarter.
Professor Butler is great! All of her assignments are very clear, and she is a very fair grader. There were 3 essays (750, 1000, then 1200 words), short quizzes that could be retaken, and some small discussions. All writing assignments were just part of writing the essay. She seemed very nice, and I'd love to take her again. Lot's of EC as well.
Ms B is fantastic! Her grading criteria and canvas are extremely clear and she offers really easy extra credit (up to ~4.5% of grade). 3 essays (~13.6% of grade each) plus some weekly quizzes and assignments but workload is fairly light. Everything is open at the beginning of the quarter but have set due dates. Async and hybrid have same content.
This class seems fine overall with all those positive ratings up here. However her gradings are unpredictable, my grade were dropped to B from A just because of her gradings on final two papers. While I tried my best improving from the previous essays and its feedback, she barely accepted improvements and I got even lower grades after.
Consisted of grammar quizzes, occasional discussions (less than 300 words), and 3 essays. Everything on the grammar quizzes could be found in the textbook. For essays, you submitted drafts of your introduction and body paragraphs, and she would provide feedback before final submission. Easy to get perfect scores on essays. Super easy course. Easy A
I took English 101 and it went very smoothly. There were many grammar quizzes but they were all short, open note, and you can retake them once. The rest of the course was mostly preparing for three essays, where she provided feedback on intros and body paragraphs before the final submission. Feedback was very clear and extremely helpful.
(RS Student) Was surprised at the quality of her class design because it was completely online. Read the textbook, it is VERY useful for the quizzes. Writing assignments may be difficult for some but it was relatively the same as my 11th-grade English class. Final is very easy, most assignments were generally very easy in this class. STUDY RUBRIC.
Didn't like her and my classmates didn't either. This is the end of my 2nd year at BC and she is the TOUGHEST grader I've ever had. She nitpicks and docks points for every little thing. Her expectations are too high for a low-level English Class taught at a 2-year local college. She acts as though she is a professor at Harvard or something. lol
Asked her for help and she would always say to go to the directions. I realized In this class that I was on my own and it made me anxious everyday fearing my next graded due to her unpredictable grading.
I never leave reviews but felt the need to warn others. She's the worst instructor I've ever had. She is an insanely tough grader. Her demands are impossible to meet and her arrogance is alarming. Her class was stressful and draining and after 2 yrs in college, I received my first C ever-and I've always been a 4.0 student since I started college.
I am still trying to recover from taking her course this quarter. Dealing with her is exhausting. She was impossible. Every time I turned in an assignment, she would message me telling me to do it again. She found fault in it no matter how hard I tried or how good I thought my work was. She made this class miserable. Do not take her!
Professor Butler's ENG101 class is well-structured and manageable. The grading criteria are clear, and the essays with feedback help build writing skills. Utilizing resources like the textbook and unstuck ai for study prep make this a straightforward A-level course.
She is a hard grader, especially for an English 101 class, while some things are reasonable, she is a picky professor. She is unorganized and often makes mistakes on rubrics and grading, so email her if you think something is wrong with your grades. It is not a bad class, but she sometimes grades unfairly on simple mistakes.
Very vague rubric/ instructions, harsh grading, and gives almost no feedback apart from the given grade. I've found that this class doesn't give you chances to improve, and makes it much harder to succeed than necessary. When you make mistakes, you aren't given a chance to improve, your grade takes a hit, and you learn nothing.
no answer k.
Love Professor Butler! Her instruction and grading are really clear, and she gives great, detailed feedback. The self-paced class only took 2-4 hours a week. One thing to keep note of is that she's pretty anal in terms of English/MLA/Grammar (of course). If you're taking this as a running start class try not to slack off. It's not the same as HS.
i know there are some people that don't really like her.. but when i had her she was great. imo she's structured and the work is pretty light. 3 essays throughout the entire quarters -- they're pretty light! first one is 700 words and the final essay is 1200. plan accordingly & you should be fine :) also her extra credit is great!
Ms. B is great with chill classes and few assignments. Only note is that she is a meticulous grader and that big assignments catch up on you quickly so make sure to stay ahead. If you want to ask her for feedback or grading clarification, she's always open to chat and will recheck the points given to be accurate.
I personally can see why a lot of people like this professor, if you do the homework that she assigns on time and you actually put a good effort in, I don't think there's a way you can get below a B. I personally didn't like her because a lot of the time her assignments felt very vague, and she was very tough/took off points on very simple things.
Take this class if you want an easy A. The essays are so simple and the only thing thats actually "hard" is the journals because she is lowkey a tough grader.
She's big on not wasting time which I liked. All assignments were explained in the least amount of words possible so sometimes it was hard to understand what was going on/expectations. Doesn't really give a lot of feedback and grades hard but if you read the rubric really well and follow it to a T you'll be fine
Very Easy A. Essays are easy and hw is easy. Very boring class and a waste of time but its a requirement so this is good for an easy A.
I would not pick this professor again. As a neurodivergent student, her instructions are stressful trying to understand. If you are a creative writer/motivated by flow state in writing, don't take this class. Her instructions are like math instead of guidance and her advice is not very helpful.
I have mixed feelings about Ms Butler. She is a tough grader with little feedback and her class module and instructions are really confusing. She often sends you to the rubric. The course has 3 essays and they're simple, classes are light and she offers extra credit. Attendance is required, and her approach feels rigid and outdated.
Class was pretty simple, 3 final essays, essay journals, grammar quizzes, and module quizzes throughout the course. She was kind of nitpicky on journals, but other than that, if u follow the rubric on the essays, you'll be good.
