Excellent teacher, wonderful person, interesting presentation of ideas.
Wonderful professor, she is very nice. The class was also easy.
Teaching style is superb, has very interesting real world experience. Tests can be somewhat tricky, but do all the extra credit and you'll be fine. 4 tests, including final, which is optional and only grades 3. Read the book, review the vocab and you should be fine. Take Carlin if you want to take something out of this class.
She's a very sweet lady, but I didn't see that her lectures were extremely necessary to make a good grade. She gives open book online quizes..easy 100. If you read the book you should be fine, although the exam questions are a little tricky.
This is a very EASY course. All of the tests are straight from the book, and she gives open book quizzes. Plus, there is an optional final. She's very nice and accomodating if you miss class or anything. She posts all of her lectures on Webct and makes sure that grades are posted quickly.
Easy Breezy!
Easy class. Nice lady. Great lectures. Gives lots of examples. Open book quizzes. 4 60questions multiple choice tests. Lowest dropped.
I studied for the test, but I just wasn't quite able to apply the definitions to the given test questions. Studied for a C.
Dr. Carlin is a very nice lady. The class is easy if you read the book. Her lectures are pointless. I didn't go to one of her lectures for the last test or look at her powerpoint slides and still made an A on the last exam. She never goes over any test material during lectures, just rambles about her past experiences. Just read the book.
she was nice, but i never went to class so i made a C. i think 3 tests, and 3 webct quizzes, optional final. oh make sure to go to class on certain days when she has extra credit or a video that will be on the test. otherwise, its basically the same stuff in the book.
Very easy class. All you have to do is go to class and study definitions and you should be Ok. The professor knows the material. I think she only teaches one undergrad class and a couple of grad classes. I got a A, so I would definitely take her again.
Very friendly, but not the most prepared teacher. Often behind on lectures, rarely give extra input pertinent to subject/test. Reading the book a MUST to do well on tests. Simple and easy-going teacher, but tests are a bit difficult. Departmental (I think), 5 answer choices, many applicational Qs, and a few detailed/vocabulary Qs.
I do not like her, yes, she might be a nice professor, but she doesn't teach u good. I do have notes for test 3 which cover chapter 13, 14, 16. I studied these notes and I am doing good on the 3rd test. If you need them, email me at: [email protected]
tests are so tricky. i could never do better than a 84 on the tests. make outlines and class isn't that mandatory but she's nice and sweet.
3 test 3 quizzes 1 opt. final a few extra cred. this Test was hard! Carlin is useless dont even go to class she is always behind. Take someone there are other teachers for this course. take her and you end up with a C if your lucky a B and study like hell
going to class to me was not needed only for the videos that she shows like twice the whole semester. she goes off topic all the time. the tests are not that bad if you just read the book a couple of time and really understand what the vocab means. know the differences between the vocabs because once you're on the test everything seems too alike.
easy class, pretty good teacher (boring at times)....you dont really need to attend class until the review for the test. 3 tests and one optional final that replaces a lower test grade. 2 quizzes. a few extra credit points
easy class- very nice teacher.
Pretty easy class. She has guest speakers and shows movies that are on the test. And if you don't go to class to watch the movies or speaker, you won't know what she's going to test you over. Other than that, easy, generic management class.
This class is how a class should be taught! We can read the book for ourselves, so there's really no need for her to do it for us-she teaches you real world applications and makes it really interesting. She's been there, done that, so she has a lot to share about it. Tests are from chapters in book and some from her notes. Read chapters, know vocab
Pretty esay class - good teacher. Class is relatively interesting; she has alot of personal, real life stories to tell. Three quizzes (only highest two count) over chapters in the textbook. Three exams and an optional final with questions coming from the book, lectures and guest speakers.
this class is kinda in the middle....u need to study the material and u will do just fine. class is not too hard, 3 exams and an optional final. 3 quizzes and 2 count. i recommend it
great teacher easy and optional final
Explains material well, but make sure to attend class as there are guest speakers.
She is a good teacher but for some reason her tests are hard to make A's on. it is not that they are hard but she ask weird questions on them about the material in class. there is also guest speakers that you must attend in order to get the info they discuss because it is on the exams. it is good to attend class because she uses examples on exams.
Good class. Can easily make an A if you read the book. Do attend class, but it's not mandatory. 3 tests, 3 quizzes (drops lowest grade). optional final. Good professor, highly recommended.
Highly recommended, really good teacher, test are a little bit difficult, but the class overall is an easy A...I went to class about 50% of the times and wait until the last minute to study and made a B+...she's really nice and goes into detail information
Boring lectures but Easy A. Drops lowest quiz and test. Extra Credit is easy. Dont really need a book. Final is open notes. Quiz is easy 100. Test lil hard. MUST take notes for guest speakers and note her examples
I never attended the lectures. I ended up with a B+! Her exams can be hard because its all conceptual questions. If you read and keep up shouldnt be a problem. But if you cant or dont do this then might want to take someone else. HAVE to HAVE to keep up!!! Overall she is ok. Gave 3pt extra credit at the end of the semester!!!
I never missed a lecture, I read the book, and studied book along with her notes. The quizzes are online and open book. However, when it came to the exams I did not do as well as I had hoped, which is odd because I thought I understood the material pretty well.
I was 1 pt away from an A. Must know vocaulary for her exams to pass, do outline her chapters to study. Her final was easy bc she let us do our own sheet cheat, one pg! I made an A on the final bc I wrote very small everything she had on her pp only!!! Use both sides, do this in advance because its long to do a two sided sheet cheat. Nice Prof
She is Fabulous! The class is interesting. You always get a laugh out of the class; She cracks everyone up. You will learn a lot and it seems so far that the class is well structured. Her notes/slide shows are to the point. Defiantely take her!!!
I attended all of her lectures and they're sooooooo boring. As the semester went on, I could tell less and less people were showing up to class. I found it better to read the book and memorize the definitions for each test. Old and fragile lady.
Her lectures AREN'T boring. Going to class isn't mandatory but I go just to listen to her lectures. I absolutely love her, she's so funny and easy to work with. She also knows a lot because she has worked everywhere. Three exams, one final. Easy to get an A if you read your book/study powerpoint slides.
Boring/pointless lectures. Final is optional. Go to class because what she says in class is on test but not in book. Must read book if aiming for an A.
She is so funny loves to talk you must learn terms and know them well also stories in book about how company turned around busniess using whatever term in chapter.i didn't really attended class so missed extra credit and i studied last mintue so i only made c could see a b or a if i tried also ptional final can bring cheat sheet luv her class
Dr. Carlin is very interesting and entertaining. REally! the class is motivating and the workload is reasonable. Her class is awesome! STUDY KEYTERMS from the book. Contact me if you need to buy the book for her class--the one from fall 2008 management class. price is negotiable [email protected].
Her voice is cool, but it gets annoying after awhile. There are three exams and an optional final, and they are mainly applied.
You'll be lucky if you make a C+. You'll have to study for this class. I took the first test for granted [Thought it be a piece of cake...it wasnt]...The 2nd test I failed. Third test I busted my butt and made a 90. Final I made a 80. I was 8 points away in getting a B-. Dont take test for granted. its only hard because there is too MUCH MATERIAL.
Her class is pretty boring but that is just the material. she is a cool professor and is nice. three exams and then an optional final in case you did bad on one of the other tests. the tests are easy but each one has enough tricky questions so that it is hard to get an A. expect at least a high B or A- but tough to get an A
she is a really nice teacher, but hard. on the first exam i got 86/120. i didnt go to class after that, i just did my own outline and i hot 102 on the second exam. read the book and do your own outline. it's hard to get an A.
Dr. Carlin brings a lot of real life work experience into the classroom. With that being said, she relies heavily on the book. In order to do well on the tests, you must read the book because she uses the exact text from the book and asks you to choose the "most correct" answer. When in doubt, go with your first instinct. Outline each chapter.
Not and easy A. Very boring class. Nice old lady. 3 Exams optional final. 2 quizzes. dont have 2 come 2 class. some xtra credit opportunities. down side they are only worth 2 pts. doesnt always curve exams. exam are graded out of 120%, so its hard to get an A w/o curve. u need to read alot to do well. class isnt hard unless u want an A.
Took her for the MBA capstone over the summer. Highly recommend - real world experience and reasonable grading. Find a good group to do the case analysis, read the book before class, and you'll get at least an A-. Take this in the summer when none of the good electives are offered.
I really enjoyed this class. She brings real life news to the class, and lets the students voice their opinions. Lectures match the book almost exactly, so if you go to the lectures and review vocab before the test, you'll do fine. Easy A for me.
Enjoy class a lot. She brings in real life situations and experiences during lecture. Definitely go to class because sometimes she'll test on lectures too. Test can be a bit tricky because majority of the problems are like scenario problems. Read the book and study vocabularies. Her review are very helpful. Class is not mandatory, but recommended.
I don't understand why so many people like this teacher. Her tests do not test our knowledge on the information. I studied a lot for her exams yet still couldn't manage to make an A. Memorize the book word for word, lectures, vocab, and have a great talent to understand wordy questions to make an A. If not, good luck.
The only gripe I have about this class are the tests. The tests are super hard for no reason. I would've made an A+ with a less retarded teacher.
WHY ARE TEH TESTS SO DIFFICULT? it's management for crying out loud. even after going to class, making flash cards, taking notes, and reading every chapter, i still barely pulled off a B+. i would walk away from a test, thinking I did very well, then when I saw the grade would be extremely disappointed. I quit going to class after the first exam.
her tests were extremely difficult. I studied a lot without even cramming and manage to get a b+ each time. She is nice and interesting but her tests are unreasonable.
BORING. so BORING. tests are hard, makes it easier if you make note cards and learn ALL definitions in the chapters. Don't schedule this for 8:30 am. you will fall right back to sleep. Just go over the power point slides, and make sure you know every definition and how to apply them into a "situation" she'll give you. 3 quizzes, read chapters***
Definitely boring. I attended almost every lecture and fought to stay awake half of the time. Then the tests would end up covering MUCH MORE than she taught. I admit I didn't study much, but the tests were suprisingly difficult for a simple management class.
The class was extremely boring, but there were questions on test from the lectures, couldn't be found in book. Grade scale didn't make sense 60 questions on a 120 point scale, don't understand why she couldn't do 50 on a 100 or 60 on a 100. Tests were hard, 30 definition and 30 situational questions covering 5 chapters and nearly 100 terms to rea
Three simple words: Don't take her. You can study for her tests an entire week and still do terrible. She has clicker quizzes and you only get attendence credit if you get them right! There is random crap from in class that will be on the test like youtube video questions. No less than 6 chapters per test. 1 attempt on quizzes. Avoid this class.
Class was pretty straight forward. Her exams reflected the material. Be sure to read the book though. Dont rely solely on notes. Class discussion were the best part of course. Sort of a more in depth ethics course as opposed to genb4350 which introduced u to the topics.
she is not easy. averages for the quizzes are 71,76, 70 and 74. if you want an easy a...stay away.
She thinks shes teaching something that is worth putting so much effort to recieve a descent grade. Avoid her if possible!! You have group papers throught the semester that are idiotic. I managed to get a A- but my other group members were far from an A. Terrible class
Ethics and Corp Soc Respon. Fairly boring class, but uses clickers so attendance is required. Two presentations graded pretty easily, three exams (MC + short answer). The book is really unnecessary; there are a few exam questions from the text, but I still pulled off an A without it. You do need to study somewhat, but not a hard class overall.
I had professor Carlin for MANA6A83-Strategic Management (Graducate class). She was an excellent prof. and gave the class a way to engauge in the lesson without having to memorize the book. She gave us an opportunity to apply the chapter concepts to real world examples in class discussions. Participation was mandaory, so prepare to speak!
Worst teacher I've ever had. Rude, inconsiderate, grades too harshly. The problem is there's really no way to avoid her. Be prepared for groups projects every week. Definitely don't take as an elective.
She makes you come to class for clickers, you have to get the questions right to get points for clickers. her lectures are boring. Tests are challenging because she does not give review but will tell you to skip introduction and cases within the chapter that's all. exams over 5 long boring chapters. good luck
Worst teacher in Bauer. Tests are more difficult than any other. Only take it if it's required. You don't learn anything useful. Expect a whole letter grade lower than what you normally receive.
Her class is not the hardest or the easiest just in the middle! Tests reviews do not help that much because she only tells u to skip a few pages. Clickers questions are sometimes tricky and makes you attend class
I love her teaching style. Takes concepts from a chapter and writes them on board. As the respective students individual and group presentations progress, she goes on to fill up the ideas that were just addressed by them. The class is hence a student-teacher combined learning experience, ideal for MBA students.
I took her for another class, strategic management before this one. Not much different in approach. Lots of board text, reading, paper and presentation heavy. I like her approach of having students present real world issues and her attempting to use multiple theories to solve or analyze them in the least.
Took this course Fall 2016. Dr. Carlin does not provide any grading rubric/criteria for any of her assignments. Her grading is abritrary and has no logical structure whatsoever. Lecture is discussion-based with no lecture material. Test is 100% concept memorization from textbook material not lecture. Class average for test was 77%. Do not reccomend
Professor Carlin is knowledgeable and charismatic. Really wanted to like the class but unfortunately it was far from a pleasant experience. There's one big test that determines your grade along with a group project/paper and individual assignment. Unclear grading and no lecture material. Review is "know everything." :/ I still love her nonetheless.
Be ready to read. Her lecture goes over the topics in the book and you also have to read other notes that she gives. She gives a review before each test that really helps give you an idea on what will be on the test. She also gives extra credit so take advantage of it.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. She is extremely opinionated... her lectures cover the material somewhat, but she words her tests like you're in 3rd grade. I would definitely pass on taking her if you can. Ex of test question: "Which of the following is an individual most likely to do? A), B), C) or D) All of the above - Answer D)"
I mean, you really can't say anything bad about Babs. Her lectures are noteworthy, to say the least. She is truly invested in her students and the outcomes of the course. The quizzes are challenging, but directly related to the concepts discussed in the text. Babs is one of my favorite people in the world; like just in general.
Absolutely do not take this course even if you're a management major like me, there are other more interesting Mgmt classes to take and require far less work. She grades harshly and her tests are not easy. Average test scores are in the 70's. Expect to read a lot, not an easy A.
She is funny! 1 weekly quiz about current events (just follow CNN on social media). 1 group project, 1 'discussion post', and 3 tests. the 1st one was the easiest for me cuz' it was all theory, the last 2 where case/example based types of questions so those were the hardest. y READ the book way before the test, it is a lot to cover if done last min
DO NOT take this class. The class consists of 4 discussions and 4 exams. You can literally study so much for an exam and still fail it. Save yourself some time and money and don't take her.
Easy class, 4 discussions, 4 exams with an optional final. Her discussions are graded rough at first ... make sure that you understand vocabulary terms given for the exams. They are all about vocabulary and how to apply them in a given situation. Exams get a bit harder towards the end but she also provides extra credit opportunities.
4 tests, 4 discussion posts. Her reviews are too broad she lists everything on the book. Averages of every tests range from 68-79. I got higher grades in the statistics tests than this class, that should say a lot. She has a good personality, but her tests and reviews set us to failure. 50 questions and each question is an essay long. DONT TAKE HER
Quiz every week on random day. Test material is unclear so study everything. She will test on more than just the book. She will ask questions about class activities, group presentations, and assigned article readings.
She makes the tests nothing like the lectures or text book work. No matter how hard you study good luck getting anything other than a 70. She is nice but she really needs stop making the tests like she is taking them and think that we are student just now learning this material.
if you take her, get ready to read and go to class every day. Homework and quiz are easy but the exam is crazy. Every question is similar and very tricky. Crazy tired class
Get ready to read a lot! She is a super tough grader, will not take again unless you want to be under a lot of stress. If you take her class take this class by itself because this class will consume you! She is super sarcastic with her feedback. Avoid if you can! The quiz questions are tricky and she gives very little time to complete them.
Easy class, 4 tests 1 optional final, 13 discussion posts. Great teacher and tests are only hard if you haven't been keeping up.
I enjoyed Professor Carlin's teaching style and personality. Class work consisted of weekly postings, a group assignment, current events quizzes, and case analyses. None of the assignments were burdensome and allowed knowledge transfer to occur stress-free. She facilitated class discussions perfectly. I highly recommend taking her classes.
A respected professor at the UH Bauer College of Business with an industry background. Dr. Carlin teaches all her courses in a real-time, real-world application setting, so the in-class discussions are succulent and insightful. When available, sign up for the Face-to-face version of her classes to get the most out of the Bauer MBA experience.
Even though this class is a joke, she tries to make it enjoyable. Tries harder than most professors to engage with students. Would not recommend attending every time because the speed of the lecture is very slow and inefficient.
She is funny and sarcastic which makes the long lectures over boring material bearable. One weekly discussion, 3 exams, and 1 optional final. I would suggest reading the book (which is free) thoroughly to study for exams that are in CASA. 50 multiple choice and t/f questions. Just study and do the work and you'll be fine.
Professor Carlin is an amazing professor. She is thorough when giving lectures, you can tell she is passionate about the subject, and she gives a good amount of extra credit. With that being said, her tests ARE HARD, even for A students. If you do not read the book you will not pass, however, she makes study guides. Packbacks and tests for grades.
Professor Carlin was great. She really cares for her students and is always open to different perspectives on the subject matter. One weekly assignment, one group project, attendance is a grade, and some extra credit opportunities. Tests can be difficult, but enough studying will help you. She tries to work with you if an unexpected issue arises.
Very easy class to pass. Tests were correlated to the review, PPT and were textbook heavy when it comes to definitions. The tests were sometimes said to be confusing, but she gave a few like 8-10 point curves. Anyway, lectures were very engaging to keep everyone attentive. She gives some leeway to miss a few classes and Packbacks too.
I think she is an excellent professor, as I have taken 2 of her classes asynchronously. She is really skilled at teaching the ethical implications of businesses. That being said- I vehemently hate Packback and dreaded completing those assignments with responses. Weekly quizzes and masters level readings assigned but learned a lot.
A not difficult, but very busy, lazy, AI-graded course. This professor uses Packback as a primary source of grades. I don't appreciate any professor using AI grading that I have to pay money for. It feels like zero updates have been made since COVID started. The professor may be good in person, but actually no effort was put into the async course.
She uses AI to grade papers and homework assignments. There are weekly packbacks (1 post & 2 replies). 3 group projects and I hope you get good groupmates because they r randomly selected. She uses google doc questions in class to grade attendance. tests are proctored at casa and they are all super hard - there is really no use in studying will fail
There are weekly packback assignments and 3 video projects (2 of them are group, 1 individual) which are relatively easy. The exams were difficult, we're not given any reviews and after failing the first test realized there are practice problems in the textbook that are extremely helpful for doing good on exams. (there's also curves)
Professor Carlin is chill. For assignments she does group videos, individual videos and packbacks. There is also one paper to write (is very short though). The final is optional. What's hard about this class are her exams. She has no exam reviews and usually are composed of tricky questions or questions generated from the system.
Honestly this is one of the class I entered blindly. I could say she's a good professor but class ain't it. There's no review and you depend on the cenage practice exams. You must go to class and she usually spends more time talking about Starbucks or McDonald. If you're willing to reteach yourself take a risk and take her. Honestly it isn't so bad
This professor teaches details about successful management now and in the long-term future. Also, there are Packback assignments and projects periodically, and four tests are structured using PowerPoint slides and the textbook. As a result, memorizing them is important if you want to do well on them. Overall, you might consider taking this class.
Spends all of her lectures talking about stuff that barely makes it onto her test which have no review, can easily make your grade drop an extreme amount of points
This is my favorite professor. She is very caring and funny. There is a packback and reflection question (so easy) every week. Attendance counts for grade with iClicker questions. She expects you to read textbook and listen to lectures because she doesn't cover everything on the tests in class & no reviews.
taking this course as an elective and would not take this course with the professor again. the grading is awful, and the lectures are not related to the tests. I have taken this course a while back, and even if you review the material, you will not pass. the material does not seem difficult, but the tests and grading are very horrible.
I started this course assuming it will be a breeze, and the textbooks and lectures were all provided. Class lectures discuss completely irrelevant topics. The course provides a textbook where flashcards were provided. I initially reviewed all course material in preparation for exam about Three weeks before, I focused my time, but somehow failed.
She's a chill professor. Besides the exams, the course is easy. No exam reviews which makes it hard to pass them. There is weekly packback discussions and attendance is graded. Her lectures are based off her power points based off the book. It can be confusing but just study weekly and you should be okay. Only take her if you know how to study well
