I think that mrs.cruz was an awesome teacher i started out not writing a good paper and came out of her class knowing how to write an essay i made an A in her class i love mrs.cruz

I'm taking Mrs. Cruz now (summer 1) now. Be disciplined in her class, you'll do well. She's strict but very clear in teaching and very objective. WARNING: Always read what you're supposed to, pop quizzes come out of nowhere and are easy to get a 100 if you've read. Very interactive class, tons of fun. Read your assignment, u will make an A.

Mrs. Cruz is an excellent teacher. I had her for Eng 1302. She is very sweet and funny. For HW you have to read fictional stories. At the beginning of the sem. we were quizzed the next day on the stories, and then we spent the day discussing them. You only have to write 2 papers and 1 presentation. She is very helpful! I loved her as a teacher.

Mr.Cruz offers no incentive. Her methods of teaching are closely related to the Marry Magdelyn convent ways. Beware men and some women, for this teacher has an agenda to fail as many people as she can. The board needs to review her habits. She is time waisted. major feminist.

I have to admitt at first she will seem like she's asking for a lot, but I think she does it to shorten the class and get people out. She really is very helpful and exact to what she says. I wrote 2 essays and had one presentation. If she sees you trying at the end of the sem. she will bump up your grade to the next letter grade.
If you are going to take her, be prepared for grammer and always choose a HAPPY topic. DO NOT DO A PAPER ON A DEPRESSING OT ANGRY TOPIC.

She is a very wonderful teacher who makes class very fun and entertaining. She always makes sure that everyone is happy. Everything you do is all essays but she passes everyone for trying. RUDE. This professor is so rude and very opinionated..she isn't understanding at all. She dropped a lot of people and the rest withdrew..haha. Everyone in my class thought she was bipolar..so we made jokes and laughed before she walked in. She also seems to dislike males..i don't know. DON'T TAKE HER!!
She is excellent. I dislike writing with a passion because I never knew what to do or how to start off. But she was able to make me see it from a different angle. I still don't like writing, but after her tutelage, it is MUCH easier for me to get those essays out.
Be carefull of what you write. I am generally a good writer and did very well all throughout HS, but her class...was TOUGH!! The best part about her class for me was taking the final exam and getting out of there.

She crushed my passion for writing! I use to love to write but not anymore. She only focuses on the negative on your papers.She never gives you credit or praise for the good aspects of your paper. She makes it seem as though you have no good aspects on your paper. She is tardy to class but expects you to sit and wait.
Attendance is considered mandatory, and if you don't miss a day you could get bumped up a grade. She teaches very clearly but is strict on grammar. Only homework was 4-6 essays for the whole class. When she grades essays she only focuses on the negative.

Usually shows up late by 5 min or so, but expects you to be there on time. The work given wasnt especially hard but for the summer course, kept you on your toes. Would recommend to anyone (BTW i hate english)

Mrs. Cruz will go out of her way to help you succeed. She is very sweet and only wants you to learn! I will admit her class is challenging, but she made everyone in our class feel at ease. i took her for 1301 and it was a nightmare. she seems to be nice at first but beware. she really is not. she favors the smart students. on the first essay i wrote i was very proud of myself because i thought i had done a great job. i got my paper back and it was a 'D'. she is bipolar also. i ended up dropping her class and she pretended to be sad.
In my opinion she is very bias towards certain students. She gave me 90s on all rough drafts and outlines yet gave an older lady all 100s. She is easy if you just go to class and listen however.

B. Cruz is an ok teacher. She knows her stuff. If you enter her class thinking your an excellent writer....you come out second guessing yourself and kind of disliking it. Textbook is not really mandatory, I used it like once the whole semester, so don't blow 50 bucks on it. This teacher loves teacher's pets! She favors certain students....
I could honestly say I enjoyed her class so much. She does certain class discussions&she loves volunteers.She gives you the exact directions for essays& be unique. Dont overwhelm with overused & boring papers. Grammers is a big thing for her. Watch it. She bumps you up for effort. I loved Mrs. Cruz.No favoritism to students with negative attitude
Great Teacher
This teacher is absolutely horrible. She does not listen, and as far as writing papers, you have to write it her way or she will fail you. I received failing grades on papers that did not deserve them. I had to drop her Comp 1 class- this was a class I should have been able to pass with flying colors! AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS.

Took her in the summer. We had an essay due every week. She's big on grammar.She is very nice but she doesn't mess around. Not really hard essay topics, pretty simple. The hardest was probably the research essay. I got an A. I recommend to take her. Book is rarely used.

Mrs. Cruz is one of the best teachers I've had so far. It was not an easy class, she makes you earn your grade, but well worth the study and the hard work to get an A. And she is more than willing to help you out if you need it. Took her for my basic engl and liked her so well signed up for her Comp this semester.

Professor Cruz is a nice woman who thinks that she knows everything. She can be interesting though she favors certain students and will give you an ugly look if you ask the wrong question. She gives you a pop quiz every week on the readings. Fairly easy but still she had a bad attitude.
She is very cool. Assigns 3 short essays but takes off a lot of points for little mistake. She makes you earn your grade. I would probably take her class again.

I was in her class in 2011 and she is an amazing professor. Professor Cruz prepares completely for each class. She is highly organized and you will get very professionally taught lectures. She is also very helpful; she listens to concerns and will work above and beyond to assist you. She loves to teach and will get you ready for the next level.
I recommend her to EVERYONE!!! She is such an awesome professor. She is Clear on how to do your papers, if you need any extra help she is there. When i took her she gave us quizzes on stories she assigned us to read for homework, if you read them, those quizzes are easy A's. She is so sweet,and really cares about her students. :)

I liked her! Papers are pretty easy but she does grade kinda hard. One narrative, one descriptive, & one argumentive/ research- the hardest one. I only recommend taking her 1301 because in her 1302 it's mainly research essays and she grades tough on those. Over all her class is good and she's nice. Don't miss class!
She will single a student out at the beginning of the semester and make their life miserable. She will be paying attention to them when she should be paying attention to the student she SHOULD be helping. She doesn't know what she is talking about and she misleads you on corrections to where it sabotages your paper. She is a terrible teacher.

Very hard teacher she literally takes off 20 points off your grade for missing a period. Has very bad attitude. When you're wrong she embarasses you in front of whole class.
She is rude, and gives you ugly looks. I sit in the back and the class and she always calls on me "just to see if I'm listening". I went thru an outline she told me how to do and then told me it was wrong and deducted 10 points off for it!
Needs to chill out, way too uptight. It's only English, not rocket science. God forbid you miss her class, you're doomed. She seems very distracted and anxious. Ya know, we can learn just as much, if not more, while having fun, instead of being a warden.

She was an awesome professor! Shows you the proper way to write an essay and helps a lot when it comes to rough draft essays so you can get a better grade on the final essay. If you are not paying attention or acting a fool she will call you out, but that is something you bring upon yourself. I would highly recommend taking her, you will learn!
Professor Cruz is a very well-educated woman who wants the best from her students. She gives clear notes and is very stern when it comes to assignments. Throughout the course, there was only 3-4 essays, and the final essay. Rarely used the book, except for notes that she would talk and go over the next day. Would most definitely take again!
She's very passionate about what she teaches. 3 essays for the whole year: Narrative, Descriptive and a Persuasive Research Paper with Speech included. Very easy class if you take the time to follow directions. She's been teaching for over 10+ years and helps you write great papers which lay down the outline for other classes which require writing.
She is quite specific in what is required. You MUST have your textbook on the first day or the rest of the year will be difficult. She gives out many pop quizzes from sections in the text.

If you miss a class, you might as well have started world war three. Does not take into account students' situations. Kicks people out of class for being on their phones, even if it is an emergency. Horrible communication about grades throughout the semester.

She is not very understanding on why you did not show up to her class. She will make you feel dumb when taking notes and threaten to kick you out if you are on your phone. She gets mad very easily and will take points off your essay for the dumbest reasons.
This professor is very strict regarding papers and how she expects them to be like. She had my class turn in a final draft paper and gave us a pop quiz the same day while we were all more focused on the paper. Only 5 out of the whole class read the stories and the other majority got zeros on the quizzes.
This Professor doesn't allow laptops in her classroom. She explains what is expected of essays and she usually makes sure there are no surprises for the final exam. In 1302 she gave LOTS of pop quizzes. If you keep up with the calendar from her syllabus you should be fine. She offers help on essays during her office hours and will work with you.
Do you like a professor who does not give you rubrics? Do you like a professor that makes you feel like everything you do is wrong? Do you like to be confused on what you get points taken off for on an essay? I would totally recommend Barbara Cruz for you if you answered yes to any of the questions above! I took Professor Cruz for English 1301 in Fall of 2017 and retook her for English 1302 in Spring of 2018.... Many people complain about her hard way of grading, however she is very clear on what she expects. She does NOT baby you and does not tolerate you if your lazy. Just pay attention and take notes! You will love her if you just put effort.
Condescending and makes rude comments to students.
She doesnt allow redos on papers, doesnt accept late/missing work, doesnt allow make ups for a failed test or assignment. Everything in the class is AS IS. She isnt clear on her grading and has ridiculous strict criteria for passing on the essays. I wouldnt recommend taking her. And she is strict on phones and stays on top of it.
Prof Cruz is hands down one of the best professors I've encountered in the recent years. She's funny and super passionate about teaching. She understands there are things going on outside of the classroom and will help you succeed. Attendance is mandatory but as long as you show up, read the homework assignments, and try your best you'll do great.
Took this professor during the Spring of 2017. I don't recommend her for a professor. She may be strict, a tough grader and give you lots of homework - be it reading or be it written assignments, but she's not one who gives positive feedback, easily.
If you're interested in being stress throughout the semester buckle up. For starters she doesn't use CANVAS! Her grading criteria isn't clear to students and she expects you to know it all. She's a harsh grader and her feedbacks are constantly changing throughout your papers. Just AVOID HER!!
Horrible professor. Never clear on her grading, gives non helpful feedback on papers and rushes through reviewing it. Doesnt understand things come up outside the classes room or give extra credit if you had to miss something. Calls you out in front of other students and disrespectful. Makes you sit in class while reviewing other peoples essays.

I liked her at first. It seemed that she got more stressed throughout the semester and pressed for time. What I really didnt like was sitting in a desk in the front of the class while I was ridiculed for things that I did wrong on my paper. That alone made me not want to continue the class. She did it to every student. It was horrible.

Seeing her who is taking care of students not only in the classroom but also outside, I thought that there would be no one in the world who has a sweetheart like her. Professor Cruz was always on topic in this course. If we had a difficulty in a subject she will teach it. There was always something we learned each day so, attendance does matter make sure you show up. You have to be able to take feedback from this class it only helps you improve.

this is probably the worst teacher I've ever had in my life! she will make you feel dumb for every little mistake you make and will not let you make up what you did wrong. she doesn't take late work and doesn't understand that there are things going on outside of the classroom for some people. Professor Cruz was by far the best English teacher. I graduated H.S in 2012. I thought I was ready till she reviewed my first page it was embarrassing, but they way she teaches and breaks down your errors she makes you a better writer at the end of the semester. would love to take her for 1302.

I personally learned a lot in her class; however, she is a tough grader. If you want a 100 in the essays you have to put a lot of effort in. She does not do rubrics but will explain what she expects for the assignments during class. Overall a good teacher, she can get pretty strict at times but it is not that bad. Every 5 minutes she repeats get off your phones . She repeats unimportant things about 5 times and talks to the class as if we are in the 6th grade. If you misplace a comma or two you get a large amount of points off as well. Getting a 100 on an assignment is extremely rare. Even if she tells you I really like that

Professor Cruz cares about all of her students. She explains every assignment and essay thoroughly. Be sure to take all of her notes and pay attention to deadlines as well as when assignments are due. I would love to take her class again. 5/5 for sure!
Essays were easy. Show her your rough drafts, she will point out what needs to be fixed. If you edit them like she says, then youll get a better grade. Got a 100 with this technique. She will come off as intimidating but shes not as bad as what others are saying about her. Just put effort into your work and youre ok. Take notes too
Its weird. she can be so funny and so sweet, yet one of the rudest people i know. Shell read your essays in front of the class and critique you loudly, while the class writes silent. Dont take her seriously, youll not only be unhappy with your life but with your final grade as well. Ive turned in amazing essays and never received over a 75.
She talks for most of the class period and even if she gives you feedback. Once you finish writing the essay, it sounds robotic.

Professor Cruz is a very caring teacher. She can be strict at times but laid back as well. As long as you complete her essays on time this class should be a breeze. Don't skip any assignments! I did and my grade went from an 89 to a 72 so don't do what I did. She really does have the best interest for you.
Definingly NOT understanding at all. Does not try to even slightly work with you on anything even though she literally says if you need an extension to reach out to her and still NOTHING. I would not take this class again and would never put someone through this class either.
I would not recommend her at all. She talks to the class like we are stupid. No exceptions no matter what is going on in your life or day, she expects her class to be the center of our world.
