ok , not 2 bad
Great teacher! Makes the lectures interesting and clear. The tests are really easy.
She must think the students are retarded or something...she teaches really slow and is extremely boring..i save myself the trip by just staying in my bed to sleep
the mid-term test was not easy - but she does teach well.
VERY BORING...talks a little too slow and boring making lectures pointless to go to...needs to reply to her emails and be a bit more concerned with students input...LABS ARE THE BEST PART OF THE COURSE!!...Course info itself is very good!!
soo boring... i sleep instead... everything is on the website anyway...
it's soooooo boring . I really slept all her class once ! she teaches so clear though and the tests are ok . (not that hard )
exams are easy, teaches well... takes her time to go through lectures (which is good) and is passionate about her field... is insincere on one-on-one basis, but will still help students... is occasionally too lax with the students.
good course overall, however she needs to start treating students as if we are university students. You dont need to talk to us as if english is our second language.....her test were so easy that it was to funny

Very thorough, very easy, but only because i have taken biology in high school. She is extremely patient to the class of 500 rowdy, disrespectful people that i am in.
She talks REALLY slowly, and covers a lot of material per lecture. Constantly "shushing" the crowd. Easy to doze off...Tests are much easier than she makes them seem, labs are not TOO bad. Pretty basic biology, if you took bio in high school, and study well you can definitely pull off an A.
What to say about Czaban..well..dhe really does not present the lecture in an interesting way, in fact it is down right boring! Its not that hard, if youve taken bio before, so its easy to walk away with an A! Just be quiet during the class and you wont constantly have to be "shushed!"
way easy, especially if you took bio in high school. her lectures are boring but her lecture notes are easy to follow and simplified a lot so its easy to study from. textbook is helpful when studying for her easy tests. labs are way easy too. AN EASY A or B!
Students in this class are very immature and noisy during lecture. But even with all the noise, the material is very easy to understand. Ive fallen asleep several times b/c the material is so simple and basic. Prof not helpful; seems annoyed by questions. Cannot maintain authority/control of class.
Dr. Czaban does a good job in explaining the material, but with no biology background, the course is fairly difficult. She is a great prof tho, and people need to learn to have more respect for her!

Just go to one lecture and you'll understand what I'm saying. She just reads the material from the lectures, that's why I don't bother going to these damn lectures anymore.
she's a horrible teacher and she does seem annoyed when you ask her questions. class is always interruped with her staring into the crowd to wait for people to stop talking. she wastes too much time. boring as hell -- you wil definitely fall asleep.
Very boring and repetitive. Easily annoyed. Arrives late; ends early if even 1 person is talking despite fact that it's not everyone's fault. Easy course, though.
No need to come to this class, all the material is online, so you can do failry well by reading it over at home, and attending the labs. However,if you ever need a powernap in between lectures, feel free to drop by,as you will quickly be"shushed"to sleep 75%of the time by her droning lecturing style
Oh god she is so boring, i dont think i have stayed awake for one class. She reads right from her lecture notes which are online. Do not bother going to the class, waste of time.
she is sooooooooo sweet and kind. you don;t ever have to see her face just print out the lectures online and study away!!! she is a darling and soo cute!!! I love her. she treats us like as if u are in highschool.
loved this course. even though i got a little bored towards the end of the year, she is very organized and provides all the notes online unlike a lot of other profs. very nice & although sometimes treated us like high school students it was understandable, stop talking and she'll stop bickering atu
The lectures are boring, everything's online. I'm glad I didn't have to attend. But Dr.Czban's nice nuff to put lectures online...so apprect. it. PPl are way too F** rude in tht class, constntly talking. She is a sweet proff. thnks we're all in highschool. Easy course, just study n u'll do well.
She's really nice - and that's her flaw. She is just too lenient with people who constantly talk during lectures. Thankfully, she posts her lecture notes online and that's a real asset. Unfortunately, her notes are very redundant at times...
I hated this class from the depth of my being. She read from the slides every lecture and expected us to stay interested in her every word (she yelled at us when we weren't). I stopped going to lectures in January and still left with an A. Altogether? it was easy AND boring.
this lady can't teach period! made everyone sleep in class and read off the notes, no wonder so many people were busy talking to their friends than listen to her. you'll do well in that course anyways, just don't come to lecture!
What a great course - you never have to go to class! Just read her slides and you can pull of an easy A. And bomb threater, next time can we be warned? What a waste of studying for the final. LOL!
Just study for her exams and you'll be just fine. She's very approchable and a nice lady. If you do not have a science background, then coming to lecture will definitely help you out. She explains the material well and clear.
I had no science background going into this, and she made the material clear and concise. As for those people complaining of her being mean or her being boring, well, all I can say is that %90 of those people were inmature jerks who still seem to think they are in high school. Wake up call people - LESS CHATTING MORE LISTENING!
She is am amazing person...She explains everything so well...She posts her lectures online which rox...Overall it will be a good experience.
The worst class that I have ever taken taught by the worst prof that I have ever had! I do not suggest this course or any other course that this prof teaches! She speaks down to the class and is not clear and this course is not easy to grasp if it has been a few years since you have taken any sceince courses! THE WORST PROF EVER!
W A R N I N G: Don't take her class!!I really wish someone would have warned me. She is horrid.
She doesnt make the material very easy to understand for students without a science background. She doesnt explain things well enough. I understand why she gets upset when ppl in the class are chatting but its seriously annoyting when she wastes 20 min of lecture time trying to find out whose talking or whose cell phone went off! grr
Thought I could pull off the first exam without studying and I got 69, it seems easy but you have to go over the stuff, she also pulls questions from videos, study and go over and over and over her slides
worse teacher on the planet.. just avoid this class all together if you can... its not worth your time
Unapproachable! High and mighty attitude, and directs her teaching to people who have a science background only. I'm not a science major... but I always enjoyed biology, until this class. She is Horrid!
This class was SOOOO easy. Lectures not manditory to do well. Studying is a must though.
Very good prof. At first i disliked her because I was afraid of her, but then i realized that those who she has attitude for in lectures, are immature and belong back in high school. All in all, even if u dont go to class, just read the textbook and notes/videos, you will do fine. Studying is essential and if your polite to her, she is polite back
Look, this prof blows. Sorry but she does. She freaks out if someone even makes a mouse fart in the lectures. She changed around the course during the year and made some stupid lab quizes that nobody studies for worth more than they ever should. Czaban....THE QUIZZES SUCK AND DITCH THE ASSIGNMENT.....
Lectures posted online, attendance not necessary for high grades. A science background helps, as well as keeping a consistent study schedule. The labs are worth a lot, and are annoying. Lecturer likes to waste too much time showing she is in charge of a class that she is obviously not. This is an easy NATS course, so take it if you have interest.
Used to go to class a couple times a month last semester, this term I've gone once. and that was to write the test. No need to go to class to get a decent mark because everything's online. Lab's are ridiculously easy...all in all an easy course.
Worst professor i've ever met. She has no knowledge about the topics she teaches she just reads off the slides super fast. The less i went to class the higher my marks climbed. Attendance is not a important or recommended. An example that explains exactly what this professor is like: 1st day = 600people present -> last day = 65 people
Barbara czaban is not a good prof at all...take this course with someone else and you're good to go. She's too much of a vigilante in class, what a waste of time.
An easy course if you have a science background, or if you study a fair amount. Class attendance isn't necessary. The labs and tests are fair. Czaban isn't very knowledgable, but is nice and tries hard to explain concepts and be fair.
not the best...not the funniest..not the most interesting...i didnt enjoy the class...sometimes wanted to sleep
Boring, can't teach she just reads through the slides most of the time. Very little of what she says are her own words. I did better reading the material on my own vs. going to lectures.
funniest person u'll ever meet. I came to classes a total of 5 times- 3 of which were to write her ridiculously easy tests. Sooo bad at teaching, it's hilarious, and she thinks she's all the sh*t. The woman calls university "big school" .. nuff said. despite all this, if u need a NATS credit TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER!!! easiest A+ u'll ever get.
Easiest A ever but probably the most annoying teacher known to man. She spends most of the time trying to get a lect hall of 500 students to be quiet. On the first day when all 500 of us were finally seated, she told us all to come down and get a handout. That should sum up her competence.
STOP READING FROM THE POWERPOINT
She's nice, and really tires hard but isn't a very captivating individual. I often used class to make up for lost sleep only to be awoken by her threatening to kick yet another person out of class for talking. If they're talking it's only to keep from dying of boredom...get it? if you value your time, read the lectures online.
DON'T take this class. This prof is so unprofessional it is not even funny. She will freak if anyone speaks out of turn in her lectures and TWICE packed up her supplies to leave durring the lecture as someone was speaking, but once silence returned, so did she. Very uninterested in helping anyone. Don't waste the $100 for the text. You wont use it.
Absolutely boring, unimaginitive. If you hate science and taking intro course, lectures are read from the nice power points verbatim. No need to attend class. Puts me to sleep everytime.
Ok, she might be a bit monotone, but i like her. Shes a good professor, and shes really into what shes teaching, which makes her teach it so well. Class attendence helps, (she says these little things that stick in your head), but either way is okay. shes a sweety!! :)
So boring it makes me cry.
very boring. stuff in the class was learned several years ago. a bird course. she is smart, but not really approachable. if you ask her something, she will nag and say that it's been covered already or to look it up yourself. on a good note, she does make good lecture notes
Professor Czaban is amazing! at first I thought she would be a little boring but her lectures are actually interesting. she knows her stuff inside out! I can't stand when professors arent always clear on what they are talking about! If you dont like her, its probably b/c you have no interest in learning in her class!
great professor....many people say that she over simplifies things but it is really crucial when the material gets hard....Plus because she goes through the material so simply it makes you invincible on the tests and exams...if you come to every lecture you are guaranteed a 75 plus. She is also very kind and approachable....by far my best professor
worst proff i've had so far, very boring. Labs were extremely easy and the best lab assistant is chris <3 i hardly went to lectures and ended up with a B but she was unbareable
She is a good prof overall. she knows what she is teaching, but sometimes teach students as if they are kindergartens (although it's not a bad thing for clarification, just annoying). slides are easy to follow and catch up. recommended.
she sux, she dont teach me nothin'. and i still got A+. If you want to get easy mark just enroll to this class...though class is sooo boring
She is a good prof. Hates it when you disturb her lectures (just like any prof should). Very clear. Makes a subject easy and understandable. Her test are reaaaallly easy. A nice person.
Engaging lectures that bring up a lot of interesting issues. Very clear, professional, knowlegeable and approachable. Exams are EASY if you attend lectures and do the readings. Plus, if you disrupt her class, she will get on your case. :)Overall, an amazing prof!
Very hard
Excellent professor!..explains well!..labs are easy!!!
The course had been pretty difficult as of now. I would recommend something much easier in regard to NATS.
I am currently crying.
labs are quite easy, exams/tests are quite hard. i'm disappointed with the mark i got for this class. i thought i did well but turns out, i didn't do too well. =( just be prepare for this class in terms of readings and studying for tests/exams!
I would definitely not recommend this class to anyone. Lectures are incredibly boring, and tests are hard since you need to know a lot of detail.
(seneca@york) 1. usually late for lectures + labs. 2. doesn't accommodate you if you have to miss class due to a religious observance. 3. deducts marks for the most ridiculous things (i.e.-neglecting to put information she didn't even ask for in the first place!) 4. no office hours 5. pretends to know an answer to a question when actually doesn't
labs are easy. course isn't too hard if u study and read. u can actually get a good mark if u study off powerpoints notes.
Infuriating attitude towards students -- smiles while she cuts people down and mocks their questions. Claims her made-up rules are "policy." Gives misleading information about test content and puts 7 answer choices for multiple choice questions that you can't understand in the first place. Don't take this class unless you absolutely have to!!
I went to the class 1 to 2 times a week give or take. She practically just reinforced what was on the pp notes. For exams I ONLY studied off the pp notes and BELIEVE ME if you use the book you are screwed, dont even buy the book and save money. so yea..the notes are going to be you lifeline and then you get an A
You can easily get a B+ in this class, just make sure you go to the labs and read the textbook. After a while you'll notice that you don't have to go to class since all the info you need is on the Powerpoints. She's an easy fun teacher.
If you can read, youll get an easy B +
Focuses a lot on minor details (ie chemical structures, etc). Discourages learning of concepts over mere memorization (weird). DO NOT study from the textbook, it's useless in this course. All test info comes directly from lecture slides.
Ugh. Not only are the tests ridiculous, but there is no feedback available. You never get to see your test to see where you made mistakes (probably because then you could argue that the questions are terrible).
She is a good prof overall. Just read her lectures. Especially, if you have a bio background (eg. took biol1010) you will be morethan fine with minimum readings (just lecutre). The last part (tissues,...) are new and still if you read the lecture note, you will be ok. I have never opened the book (rarely attended class) but got A.
A nice lady (you can tell she wants people to do well). But, she doesn't hold a good lecture. She reads right off of the slides which I could have done on my own time. It's a hard course if you have no science background and every exam/test is based on pure memorization. People are saying not to use the text book but it's what saved me in the end.
Profesor Czaban is passionate about science and her students. Her class is very interesting and she uses real life examples to solidify her points. I appauled by all the negative feedback from prior commentors. If you arent lazy, and enjoy learning about the human body, you'll like this class.
May seem tough during first couple weeks, but gradually loosens up. Very nice, can tell she enjoys teaching her course. Explains well. Overall, she is a good prof, a lot better than others at York.
horrible
Very simple and basic class. Prof is passionate and really tries to explain things as clear as possible. Easy assignments, and she prepares you for the tests. The only bad thing really is that she babies you and overcomplicates explaniations. Good course overall. Attendance is mandartory only 4 the first couple of weeks, after that its basic.
This prof is by far the best at York! She makes complicated concepts easy with her cute analogies. This class is an EASY A! Dont be lazy and you'll be fine.
She's very nice and would help you if you asked. It's not really a hard course but it was somewhat challenging for me because sciences are not my forte but had to take a NATS course.
If you want to be at all stimulated or enthused over class material, don't take this course. If you have no prior knowledge of science it's hard. Her style of teaching is mind-numbing and reeeeallly grating when she speaks as if it's a grade school class. Tests are fine if you study. in conclusion... I wish I took a different NATS.
ok so im surprised so many people are saying she is hard. This is an easy A, It doesn't matter if you aren't a science major because everything in NATS 1610 is elementary school to gr.10 basic science, its all common sense
no comment
TAKE THIS COURSE ONLYY IF YOU HAVE A BIOLOGY BACKGROUND.grade 11-12 BIO and CHEM! she goes over everything as if you already know it..i think it is a bit too advanced for a NATS course.tests are okay. A is def possible if you have studied all the ppt lecture notes and u know them reallyy well. Professor is nice and helpful
This class is just too easy ONLY if you have a science background in high school. Labs material are so basic that you'd laugh at this course! However if you NEVER took science you would have a hard time catching up because most of the time her lectures are very detailed and I feel that I'd totally be lost if I wasn't a science student in school.
She's boring as hell and she teaches in great detail which is good if you've never done science but if you've already got a science background then you don't really need to attend 'cause it can be a bit slow 'cause she gets repetitives. Just stick with the powerpoints and refer to your textbook if you get lost and you'll be okay.
Just go to her lecture, and her tests are based on her lecture slides
Horrible professor. Very strict, and not at all accommodating. She gets upset when you ask her a question in lecture. The textbook was expensive and we hardly used it. Worst professor I've ever had.
This prof is awesome! I don't know what people are complaining about. She is repetitive, but sometimes that's better than having a prof skim over info that you're expected to know in detail on the exam. She really wants you to do well, and if you put some effort in, you can definitely get an A-A+.
Barbara relies on powerpoints, and the good thing is that she posts them!! I would say she is a fair prof given that she knows NATS classes are for people who aren't strong in science, and makes the tests VERY reasonable. All in all, she's a good prof, a little bad on elaborations, but awesome for people who need to take NATS cause she's very fair
She is a good prof! Her exams are considered "easier" for University exams. And your guaranteed to get a B or higher if you do the labs and know your stuff. She is very basic and boring in lecture but dont let that stop you from enrolling in a class with her because in the end its how easy the prof is that matters because you want that B+ or A+!
she is a very nice prof, but exams are tricky. She makes exams up from her notes. She posts her notes online but doesn't record her lectures. You should go to the lectures, She goes through her slides in detail and clarifies everything. Not necessary to get text, but it helps clarify anything that you do not understand from the lectures. Study!
she's an awesome prof. very helpful. her exams and tests are quite tricky (esp. the midterm). there's 6 tests throughout the course. her labs are pretty easy and a lot of fun. just remember to do the readings and you'll get a good mark.
Amazing professor. Very clear and concise, and you can tell she has a joy for teaching. Her analogies are great, and very easy to understand even if you don't have a science background. Her midterm was tricky, so be sure to study! Attandace isn't mandatory, however if you want to do well make sure you go. Professional, yet has a sense of humour:)
understand/review/memorize your notes, take notes from the textbook. go to class. class will be boring, but useful for exams. labs are interesting, easy marks. if you've taken biology before, this is a breeze. if you haven't, this will NOT be hard. very very easy. excellent teacher. PLEASE take this course!
This prof is excellent at her craft, she is very thorough and her ability to make a very complicated topic understandable is unrivaled. I will never forget her examples and the keys she gives us to help remember stuff. You can tell she has a VERY SOUND knowledge of her courses and enjoys teaching. I consider attendance mandatory in this class.
Average Prof, sometimes treats students as elementary school kids. Tests are not difficult. No need to buy the textbook, tests are bases on presentation slides. Labs could be better prepared in advance as many times the experiments do not work out because of faulty materials. An okay course overall!
Very boring class!Talks to student like they are clueless Lecture slides posted online so not much need to go to class.I didnt go for months and left with a good grade. Labs help mark
Had her over the summer for Kine 2011. Very boring lecturer, couldn't stay awake in class. Basically reads off slides. Made the midterm easy but the final was brutal.
this was a one month course I took for the first time. boring. first half was easy. review. midterm was easy. final was brutal. don't skip classes although it may be tempting. read the textbook and memorize as much detail as possible. otherwise don't take this course. she also has a thing for picking out people who talk during class. watch out.
eaassyyyy A+, especially if u have taken kine 1020, and bio 1000; but yea final was much harder than the midterm!
Just to make things clear. Physiology is a boring subject in all. For those who have no science background she explains things in a manner that even a kindergarden class can understand, this helps a lot when it comes to apply your knowledge in a complicated question. She had every right to pick out those chatting, others where trying to learn.
The material could not have been much simpler. Just basic high school- level science. Her exam questions were tricky though, and somewhat misleading. I suppose this is so that every student does not get an A+. She is likely the nicest person you will ever meet.
BEST PROF ON EARTH!!!!!!! Just like high school. She makes it so simple. Don't talk in her lectures, dont shuffle dont come in through the front door if u r late.
nice prof. explains everything very clearly. its easy to get an A in her course
She is a really boring professor, I end up falling asleep in lecture. For people without a science background you do need to study because she covers a lot. Wish I took an easier NATS because this is pure memorization.
She goes really slow and basically reads off slides. I took it in the summer so it may have been easier than usual. Know everything in the slides and use the textbook to clarify. Should be an easy A
she's a nice prof who's GOOD (not bad nor great) at teaching the material She does make things easier to understand Her slides are really detailed to the point you dont need a textbook However she puts no creativity in teaching the course it's just straight up lectures from the power point. She's not a fun prof, but she's nice so its not all bad!
Professor Czaban, is a nice prof. She teaches the material and she is very helpful. She is not the kind of prod who wastes your time. However if you have background biology knowledge you can easily get good marks without attending her class. The book(written by her) and the lecture notes are extremely helpful!I wish every prof was like her
didn't take grade 11/12 bio, but got As and A+ on all tests. memorize slides as much as possible. do not purchase textbook. (trust the other commenters - textbook goes beyond what you have to know for the tests). for liberal arts students: chemistry and cell repro. units may be hard initially; embryology/sexuality and genetics are pieces of cake.
She is an amazing professor. If you have to take physiology take it with this professor! I had a lot of trouble understanding physiology until I enrolled in her course. She is a very kind and understanding teacher who tells you exactly what you need to know for her tests/exams. Exams are very fair if you attend class.
she's very monotone and the class is pretty dry, but if you took grade 11 or 12 bio, its an easy A
Prof. Czaban was great! Very fair exams. Clear expectations and slides very helpful.
Took this course only went to 25 of the classes managed to do pretty well in the course. All you gotta do is go over the slides and watch the videos some will scar you for life... and you''re good to go Assignments are SUUUPER easy just gathering newspaper articles. Took the course in the summer.
To be honest, I have been to each and every lecture she has given this year and I did well. She provides accurate examples and analogies of biological processes and manages her lectures well. Other than an occasional joke, you will need some COFFEE to help you persevere her monotonous, lullaby-like voice.
I went to maybe 4 lectures throughout the whole year and got an A+. She posts all her lecture powerpoints online and if you study from those you will do well. If you're an auditory learner, go to lectures. She pretty much just reads and elaborates slightly on what's on the slides.
Never took bio but found the class pretty easy. It's pure memorization, her tests are MC & very straightforward. It can help to read the book but it goes into details not needed. Easy to do well on assignments if you follow her instructions to the letter. Really nice prof, lectures can be boring at times but she's clearly passionate about the topic
Labs save your mark in this course, my lab leader was incredible; professor was not, all you really need to know is that the lectures were extremely boring and the lecture slides were jumbled and confusing, would not take the course again If I had more characters that I could write it would basically be to say how much I personally hated the class
If you have taken high school biology, then this class is a breeze. Barely showed up to any lectures and finished with an A. Just study her powerpoint slides, and test questions are easy.
She explains the concepts well and if you have a science background, her class is easier. But her lectures are long and boring since she is very monotone. Memorise the lecture slides as whatever you need to know for the exams are on them. So for that reason don't buy the textbook as its just a repeat of her lecture. Her tests are straight forward.
straight up teacher. study the lecture slides on your own never needed to show up to class and do not buy the text book. science backround will help labs are easy and marking is straight forward. study and you will do well.
Very clear criteria for successful completion of the course, passionate on the topic, and very understanding Prof. Really enjoyed the full year course.
Very long, poorly delivered lectures (no break within 2 hour lecture). Fair tests, pleasant person, put's up all lecture slides. You don't need the textbook but you need the lab manual. Lecture slides are strangely designed with randomly capitalized words, quotation marks where they aren't needed, and full of block text. Labs are easy.
Very dull and monotone. All lecture slides are posted online so you don't NEED to go to class. She expands a little in lecture. If you are an auditory learner I suggest going to lecture. If you're not going to pay attention anyways (which is hard to do as she is not the most exciting prof), you may as well create your own notes on your own time.
Czaban is a solid Prof for a first year students. She is crystal clear regarding her expectations and what will be on the tests. Her slides are fantastic study aides. It does help to go because she expands on them. She also produces study guides for you (very rare). She's also friendly. But don't skip labs! It will tank your mark (25% of grade).
She is a very kind prof. For someone who has taken previous science courses through high school I did find this course to be a lot of work. Takes time to understand the concepts and ideas. If you just memorize her lecture slides you will do great on exams. Lecture slides are very detailed and sometimes have too much information all on one page
OMGGG!! I honestly thought it would be easy for a summer school but it not. I had to study off the PowerPoint back to back. No textbook is needed. She explains in details is what I like but boring. ALOT OF MEMORIZATION!! I suggested you guys do it with another profs. Assignment is so easy got an A+ but test overall wasn't that good
Okay, I took this course this summer and my expectation was high judging by the reviews and ratings I had seen for her. Little did I know what torture I was getting myself into. She is sooo monotone. Lectures feel like forever. She is nice, but she isn't a great prof. Assignments are super easy, but her tests (mc's) are like pure memorization.
No point of going to lectures. They are extremely boring and she is very monotone which makes you want to fall asleep. Notes are posted online so i recommend to just study on your own.
Super nice down to earth woman. Really passionate about what she teaches. Will over explain EVERY SINGLE DETAIL making you want to rip out your hair, but this would be good for people who have zero knowledge about the anatomy of a human being. Easy tests, but put in the work, lots of studying. She hates noise, dont talk in her class
She is terrible. She just reads off the slides, with such a soft tone voice. Some profs would walk around the class, get the students to contribute but in her case, that never happens. For two straight hours, she sits in her chair, reads off the slides, nothing else.
very monotone speaker, reads off the power point slides but not very boring. so if you miss a class all you have to do is check online. Extremely easy tests, took about 30 minutes to complete and all multiple choice. No textbook needed. I recommend this class for people who don't attend regularly .
worst class ive ever taken. the most boring class ever. prof doesn't even teach the material well and no one attends her class. going to her class feels like sitting there and watching a robot speak. do not suggest taking her classes.
She speaks very monotone. Going to her lectures is very boring and not mandatory. I just need the credit so that is why I took it. It's pretty easy overall, all MC type questions on test.
This class is incredibly light. Class is twice a week and I probably went a total of 10 times all year. Ended with an A. 4 Exams all multiple choice and the labs are super easy too. If you have a basic bio background I would recommend with course as an easy GPA booster.
Omg! I feel bad for writing this but she is just awful. Like sooo bad. She doesn't even use a microphone and her tone is so low. You just have to read the lecture slides for tests and you're good. Everybody who shows up to her class either leaves early or takes a nap or watches netflix (literally). The labs are easy but like a different course.
worst prof. Lecture is extremely boring and you can barely hear her speak. she is very monotone. Powerpoints are online. You do not need to go to class there is no point just go over the powerpoints. Labs are easy.
Professor Czaban is not the most engaging lecturer, and tends to read off power point slides. She is nice though, and the class is pretty easy if study off her power points slides. She posts her power points on moodle, so going to class isn't necessary. The text book is not necessary.
I think she's a good professor. She wants us to learn and do well. She posts every lecture on the moodle for us to access.
she was a very boring prof and very mono. she usually wasn't be able to finish a lecture in one day so she would sometimes spend days on one lecture because she would restart. She posts her lecture slides online but if you read the text and the lecture notes you should be fine. all the questions on the exam come from the slides for the most part.
She mostly spends the lectures reading from the slides (you can download all slides from Moodle), you don't even have to go to the lecture. She does not ask anything from the books or the videos she shows in the lectures. You just gotta study the powerpoint slides. Also, don't ever miss the Labs, they make up 25 percent of your grade. 9/10
No mic, can't hear anything and on top of that, she rushes through everything and throws you info you've never seen from lectures on tests... She's not that good at teaching either but she's very considerate and nice (as in accommodating, but not for tests tbh).
her lectures are extremely boring and her voice is so monotone it's easy to fall asleep during class...... she also reads from the slides so going to lecture isn't too important. however labs are very much necessary. make sure you go to them and you'll do fine.
She is amazing. Her tests are easy, you just have to read the slides. No textbook needed. There are 4 tests and 2 assignments. The assignments are easy if you follow every single instruction carefully. The only thing is that she speaks in a monotone, so her class can get boring but its totally worth it. An easy course in general.
The class is very straightforward but dr czaban is monotone. There are 4 tests worth 20% each and 2 assignments worth 10% each. The tests are based on the lecture slides and she provides an exam review so just study that and youll pass. The assignments are easy just follow her instructions step by step to get 100% just follow her instructions.
Monotone as other people say, don't show up to lectures and don't buy the textbook- all lecture notes posted online. Always go to labs and prepare for lab tests, they are very easy. Second exam is brutal so study hard, helps to go to lectures for sure but she is boring and you can lose hope quickly, wouldn't recommend necessarily but is okay.
If you put the effort in, you'll be able to get a decent mark (above a C+). She's not that bad but it's quite unfortunate that she's super monotone when she speaks, it makes you want to do anything other than pay attention to her. Her ppts are super long and contain a lot of information. Taking high school gr. 12 bio somewhat helps
Lectures aren't mandatory, EVERYTHING is posted online. Don't buy the textbook, you will never use it. I got a C+ in the course because I did. not. study... not even a little. If I did, it would have been an easy B+ Also, don't take a class with labs. You are better off taking a 6 cred in 1 semester with no labs.
The lectures are not mandatory as she posts everything online and just reads off the slides. She is an ok prof, not bad but not anything special. The course is very easy, just memorize whats on the lectures and read the textbook. The labs are very easy too. Its an easy going course. I could have done better if I tried in this course.
Barbara was a great prof ! She really cares! She has a lot of experience and she makes you work for the mark. She teaches biology well, and she tries to engage her students. A lot of reading was necessary, a lot of homework was necessary, but she is kind and answers all questions. I wish she taught more biology courses ! Hard-work is needed to pass
This course is extremely heavy. Meaning you need to attend lectures or you wont pass. I took this course last winter and all exams were multiple choice. You either knew the answers and studied or you didnt. Overall, you need to study in this class and put a lot of work into it.
Do not bother buying the textbook for this class, it is crazy expensive and not needed in the slightest. The prof is so boring and puts all the info on the slides so there is no point in going to lectures.
Barbara was great at explaining concepts. She was slow and in depth which i like. Take the 6 credit in one semester. The break down is 4 tests, 2 assignments. And no exam. The tests were all multiple choice and fairly easy. The assignment was to find 5 articles and summarize it and give your analysis. Overall. This course is first year appropriate.
Easy pass. Also, dont buy the text book I payed $160 and never opened the book once. All the content you need to know will be on the powerpoint slides usually posted ahead of the lecture on Moodle. She will tell you that you need the textbook but just save your money and dont buy it.
I didn't attend class, only went for the tests and still did okay. She has a review document she provides which pretty much covers all the material needed for the tests. You'll be okay as long as you read the lecture notes.
She's sooooo concerned with plagiarism she makes us vow to not cheat and spends more time reminding us about academic integrity than teaching the class. Not a science major so this class is HEAVY for a general ed class. Refuse to buy that expensive textbook and the lectures vary from fair to VERY heavy. Tests are weighted heavy so study study study
Took over the summer(online during COVID). There were 3 tests(20% each), 2 assignments(10% each) and 6 quizzes(20% total). Tests are non cumulative. They consisted of multiple choice, short answer and matching questions. Textbook is not needed, all info is mostly found on the slides. She is very clear on what you need to know for the tests.
I did very well. But just do yourself a favours and avoid her like the plague. She cant teach. Youre better off teaching the class to yourself. I didnt come to university to pay thousands to teach myself
One of the best Prof's! Lecture slides are very clear and the tests are not hard if you do the readings and at least listen to the lecture
Professor Czaban is extremely caring and polite when interacting with students. Her lectures are not mandatory because she posts her slides ahead of time (which are great for studying) but it helps to attend because she explains everything extremely well. Attend lectures and you will not have any trouble doing well.
Good prof however she is monotone and the recordings can sometimes be boring as she is just reading through her lecture notes. She does go in depth on a few things so it is important to still listen to her. Wording on the quizzes can be quite tricky. Assignments are easy but make sure to follow the criteria carefully. Overall, a good class
Really clear, high quality lectures. Content heavy but well paced, the tests cover the lecture content well and the assignments were not overly complicated. A very well organized course!
Material not difficult but test/quiz r TRICKY! DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK she will say u need it bc she wants u to pay since she wrote it. The assgs are TORTURE- instructions in 2 docs over 10 pgs each. Took me longer to format assg than complete it. 2 10% assgs, 4 20% exams lowest drop, quizzes. I recomm the course just w/ a diff prof! Rude in emails
This class was the most annoying class Ive taken in a while. Dont need the textbook because everything in the slides. 4 tests, 2 assignments and about 7/8 quizzes that add up to 20%. The lowest test and quiz are dropped. She was very enthusiastic about the material. Similar to the material in Grade 11/12 bio with a little more added into it.
Not the most entertaining lectures, but she is very informative. The quizzes/tests are really easy if you pay attention to the lectures. She also redacts the lowest test and lowest quiz mark from your final grade.
She gave no feedback during the course and efforts to contact were fruitless. The material was actually easy but she never provided test feedback to show how students could do better in areas of weakness. tests took more than a month to grade and return. if you want to actually be taught, dont take this professor.
NOT GOOD. Do yourself a favour and do not take this class. Hardest thing ever and she encourages students to buy her textbook (she's the author) and waste money. You cannot get a good grade unless you study harder than you ever have before, or unless you...
loved that recorded lectures were never over an hour. mid term was a bit tricky. quizzes are pretty easy. watch the lectures and you wont rlly need the textbook. fairly easy course with high school level content. learned almost everything that was covered in grade 12 biology
I recommend NOT taking this class as it is pretty difficult if you did not take chem/bio in hs. lectures are under an hour-long but will be useless in quizzes/tests as they're based on understanding rather than knowledge. assignments are lengthy, but dr. czaban gives enough time for completion. the only perk is lowest quiz/test score is dropped.
She speaks too fast, which is terrible for international students, and her lectures are boring. She can be very knowledgeable, but she is not a good teacher. She posted the course outline and assessment dates very late.
Only issue I have with the course, is how difficult it is to navigate the eclass. Its unnecessarily sorted with many pdfs on tests, assignments, lectures, quizzes, tests. Just one course outline is fine w/ everything. The format of the eclass page is smthing I never seen. 5 dozen tabs of content that could be simply organized under a simple date.
This prof is not tech savvy at all and when she hands out assignments she gives 10 pages of instructions with very specific submission instructions and if you don't follow all these instructions she will not mark it. She makes everybodies life more difficult including her own for no reason whatsoever. Stay away from this disease of a prof.
The worst professor ever. All she does is read the slides in a very boring monotone voice. Not a fast test/ assignment grader. Theres a quiz/ test every week and they are very hard. There are 2 assignments in this course and they are the exact same thing but just really hard and dumb. anyways I dont like the prof or the course, I dont recommend.
Course breakdown = 7 mc quizzes, lowest dropped. 2 assignments where we compile articles regarding an aspect of human development and analyze them. 4 mc & wq tests, lowest dropped. Tests & quizzes have questions that can be worded in a really tricky way. U need to REALLY study. For assignments: START EARLY & spend lots of time on them.
If you REALLY study & DO NOT procrastinate, you can do well in this course. Make sure to ask her lots of questions for clarification on the tests and assignments. She will help you out a lot. Her lectures were pretty short, generally under an hour. She repeats herself quite a bit to emphasize key points & I really appreciate that. Would take again!
She gave us a lot of time for the quizzes & tests, very nice. 1 hour for quizzes of 10 questions. Tests had 16-20 questions for 2 hrs. Beware that she LOVES cells so she spends a lot of time talking about them. She begins talking about atoms & molecules & works her way up. WATCH LECTURES. They really help with understanding. They're short, > 1 hour
Dr.Czaban is very caring and passionate about the material. This is a good course to take remotely to complete a NATS GEN ED requirement. But, the professor is not always accessible and it is hard to get in touch with TAs.
Honestly the worst set up I've seen for an online course so far, for some odd reason the tests and quizzes are hidden away towards the bottom of the website and there is little to no communication from the Prof or TA throughout the semester. You can not review tests after they are marked so if there was a marking error, you'll never know.
There are 4 tests and 7 quizzes. We had a lot of time to do them, but her questions were hard to understand. She will try to trick you so read and re-read the questions before answering. There is no feedback on anything. No communication whatsoever with the prof or TAs. Overall, I'm glad I never have to take this class again.
1675 very bio and chem heavy and should have required a prereq the course description does not accurately describe what will be covered and neither does the syllabus She is obsessed with cheating Course was online but exams in person She also has a lot of specific requirements for handing in asgmnts - if you don't follow she will not mark your work
Do yourself a favour and do not take this class. Takes forever to give grades back, will post slides with no audio, gives the hardest short answer test questions, and is basically inaccessible. My grade is no testimate to her teaching, rather the help of the internet, textbook, and other teachers in the department who took the time to help me.
Despite what other reviews say, I really enjoyed her class. Her lectures were engaging, course content was presented in a nice way and she was very knowledgeable. E-class was organized well. Quiz questions were worded to trick you, but tests questions weren't really. The course consisted of 4 in person tests, 2 assignments and 6 online quizzes.
If you are not a stem major and are looking to take this class to meet your 1 NATS course requirement, dont.
She was an okay professor other than her inability to organize eclass, there are so many tabs that could have been put under just one. She has the most specific instructions for assignments that are separated into multiple PDF folders that are easy to miss, if you dont complete it correctly she will give you a zero. Honestly, it's a bit ridiculous
Barbara puts little to no effort into her lectures; you never see her face, she either does audio recording or no recording at all. She seems passionate about what she's teaching, but doesn't teach it very well, when she does post audio recordings you often hear her dog snoring quite loudly in the back, or she goes off on tangents.
This course is listed as a good opportunity to fulfill the NATS course required for Liberal Arts students; however, my peers and I found certain aspects difficult as it is asynchronous and she is often hard to reach and is not clear in her test review outlines.
Barbara is the worst prof I've ever come across. She makes assignments so unnecessarily difficult than they need to be; not content wise but she wants 12 separate documents submitted in order of her liking (she doesn't even grade the work). I would only recommend her to my enemies
i loved her. not only was the content for the course interesting, she made it even better. she gave amazing reviews for midterm and exam, everything you need are on her reviews. her lectures are heavy (40-50 min), I didn't mind as she hinted a lot to things you would need to know for exams. assignments were pretty easy. quizes were also very easy:)
This course is a review of Gr.12 bio. You will have to purchase the lab manual but not the textbook. It's better to download the book online as it'll barely be used, unless you want to dive deeper into a topic from lecture. 4 tests that were multiple choice and directly from the slides. Just review the lecture slides and the test reviews she posts.
Barbara's class can be challenging, but engaging if you put in the effort. Quizzes can be tricky, but her assignment guidelines are detailed. unstuckstudy helped me prepare effectively for exams. Overall, the course content is interesting, though the workload can be heavy at times.
eclass is very disorganized, easy to miss announcements if you don't read them carefully. Sometimes she would post 2 lectures in one week (at least 45 mins), she even post another new lecture before the test and upcoming lab. There are total of 4 tests and so far there are two of them are marked on Sunday...not going to take any of her class again.
simple stuff, tests were completed with eyes closed, quizzes were completed while on the stair master, labs were a breeze. asynchronous so it's up to you to stay up-to-date, but other than that it was fun.
absolutely horrible, ALL BIOLOGY, I took this as a Nats course as a psych student, she is so harsh and not accessible, the class is also very weirdly organized, It took me hours to find the assignment. I hated this class so much that I ended up dropping it with 0 refund. TA's are also very rude and impatient. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!
DONT TAKE THIS COURSE. I did everything that was required, attended all lectures, took notes and studied for every test and still barley passed the tests. This professor will try to trick you on her 70+ question tests as well. This class was extremely difficult and if you can take another science do it.
She has no office hours (email only) but she does not answer emails at all
Get ready to pay to watch YouTube. Her recorded lectures are from at least 4 years ago and have a lot of distracting background noise that makes it impossible to focus, and if there's no video, she just links a YouTube video for you to watch. The quizzes and labs aren't difficult, but the tests can be challenging without any background in biology.
-Eclass is unorganized -Assignments are tedious; everything needs to be organized in very particular ways. -Lots of content to study, but the exams reflect the content well, and if you study well, you should do fine on the exams. -Reminds me of grade 11/12 biology class, so if you took that in high school, you should be fine.
If you have over $100 to buy her textbook then do it. I would advise not to waste money on 6 months of textbook access that you will never need. She made it seem like i need to have it to pass the course. As a 1st yr, I got scared and bought it. Spend your money on other stuffs. Also, the assignments are really specific and can u lose marks easily.
