extremely engaging coursework and lectures. one of the most intelligent and fair professors i have taken

WATCH OUT SHES A PLAGIARISM FREAK
an extreme amount of homework but engaging subject matter. She leads the students in great discussions but still a ridiculous amount of reading.
Eisenstock looks like Catherine O'Hara, and I think that is cool becuase it's like learning about media and deversity while watching SCTV.
TOTAL BIZNATCH, MEAN, RUDE AND TREATS HER STUDNETS LIKE CRAP
Tough, but always intresting subjects that would never be brought up in any other classes.
Eisenstock is on the cutting edge of what's going on with diversity and gender issues in the media. She will twist everything you think you know about media issues and doesn't teach throw-away classes, you apply everything later whether you're aware of it or not.Past post confuses mean with serious.
Power Point Addict, which gets a little old after awhile. Her topics are interesting but she seems so disinterested in students. She favors guys too.

biggest beatch ever, doesnt care about students, not in touch with todays social norms, and unwilling to hear any opposing views, i think she enjoys giving bag grades...she tried to fail my entire class
She is hard but very thorough. You will learn a lot as long as you are willing to work hard. Just learn the concepts. She likes people who speak up.
Appreciated not having to buy a bunch of expensive textbooks. She keeps it interesting but zips through her powerpoints way too fast to get the notes. She gave an oral final where we were randomly called on & just had to talk. I hate public speaking, & if you bomb it's in front of the entire class.
TOTAL BEOTCH, BEOTCH, BEOTCH... sHE takes pride in the fact that she has sooooo many degrees in the Journalism field. SO WHAT! That still doesn't make her a good professor or a good person. She's arrogant and sneaky. Watch out for her, she is a wolf in sheeps clothing! SHE LOVES TO FAIL STUDENTS!!!

do not take her.
She's a femi-nazi, i couldn't stand all the B.S. we learned in class. Don't take her, don't take this class. All it is learning about how **** the media is. Some terrible projects to do too.
She is a very unfair grader. Her tests stink. There are different answers to the same question tests on a scantron only 1 right answer. If you answer "wrong" according to her, even if you can prove it's also right, she says only her answer is correct. She doesn't want to help you outside of class, she seems annoyed if you drop by her office hours.
Eisenstock is not a easy teacher but she has some very useful information. She is a great teacher. She gives a lot of readings but I didn't read any of them and got a B- in the class. Just pay attention to her power points and take notes from them. Everything in the power points was on the test. Overall, good professor.
I learned a lot in this class, however, it was not easy. We had to do a group project, which was an oral presentation, write a research paper, and take an oral final. It's a tough class, as are all her classes, so I've heard.

if u are a pr major...think twice about taking her...

Do not take her. She teaches her class with a harsh liberal, anti-man bias. Her class often includes watching far-left propaganda videos. She touts clearly biased sources such as FAIR as "neutral", and punishes anybody who challenges her opinions with negative grades.
She helps open your eyes to the media and she's easy if you do your homework and pay attention and take notes in her class.
She is difficult, biased, non-communicative and inflexible. A very difficult, feminist professor who does not like to give an A to anyone. She's very subjective and unfair so taking her class is sort of like rolling the dice. You may make a good match but odds are 36 to 1 she'll respect you as a student personally or professionally.
Try to avoid as much as possible her class!Believe, She is inflexible, hard grader, and wierd(always dresses in black)Don't take her class!
She seems nice, then you talk to her one on one and you realize she's not that nice. Really hard to get an A in her class...
she knows the subject well, but does not teach it well. not a good professor for an entry level class, as she expects everyone to know as much as she does. she doesn't stop talking during the entire class.
Her lectures are not very clear! It is difficult to absorb everything she's saying while you're simultaneously trying to write down the Power Point notes. Her train of thought runs back and forth, and will bring things up from 5 weeks ago and expects you to remember it. Her scantron tests are another story. I did a mini survey around the
Ugh, I hated this class. A lot of notes, but not enough time to write & absorb info. For the projects, she expects us to be able to read her mind and know what she wants (even when we specifically ask her want she wants) then gets angry that we didn't do it right. The final is worth the same as the other tests so no saving urself at the end.
This teach gets a bad rep but it is only because she doesn't hand out "A" on a silver plater... The stuff she taught me I can really apply to my life and it makes me feel good to know I actually earned my grade with hard work, not butt kissing! I liked her style so much I am taking her for another class next semester!
well this classes is easy in every aspect, except for her tests. you really has to study for them! so if you suck at tests don't take this class! but the class work is very easy, so i the group project. well good luck if you already registered!!
do not take her!I don't mind that she is hard, it's just that for lack of a better word she is mean. Also she is a power point freak!
Very engaging and clearly enthusiastic. That said, the volume of reading is a bit much for a 300-level class. If you're willing to commit yourself to the material and be an active note-taker / participant, you'll get a lot out of the class. OTOH, if you try to cut corners, you'll suffer in the end.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had! All she does is talk about how smart she is. She expects you to understand material without explaining. DO NOT TAKE HER
Knows her stuff... BUT, it gets VERY repetitive and she has a way of making even the most simple concepts seem difficult to comprehend. As far as the media deconstruction is concerned, it's a time consuming project (there's a whole packet of papers w/the oral), and then you have to regurgitate everything you JUST DID in a 4-5 page paper. It's bull.
Man her test are so difficult and the media deconstruction is very time consuming so get on it! Good Luck
She strikes the right balance with lecture and class discussion. Helpful, takes time to explain, NEVER condescending, no matter how many times she answers the same question.
If you are no super liberal---DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! And if you are, you will probably still get annoyed because she only presents one side to everything. She welcomes NO opposite opinions from her own, and shuts down people who offer their thoughts. She needs to open her mind and realize that the world is not a one-sided place.
UMMM...I'M A GIRL, BUT IF I WAS A GUY I WILL NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS OR THE PROFESSOR!! THE WHOLE CLASS SHE BRINGS MEN DOWN (ITS FUN, BUT AT SOME POINT ITS JUST MEAN). IT SHOULDN'T BE A HARD CLASS, BUT SHE MAKES ITS HARD. AS A JOURNALISM MAJOR, IT WAS AN INTERESTING CLASS, I JUST WISH THEY OFFERD IT WITH ANOTHER PROFESSOR.
If you are white and/or a woman - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! You will end up feeling ashamed of your race and your sex! She is VERY condescending and will make you feel stupid for speaking openly. I did learn quite a bit in this class, but felt awful having to deal with her. Unless you are one of her favorites in class forget about getting an A.
I loved Eisenstock! She opened my mind and really makes you think. No it’s not an easy A but isn’t this college? Eisenstock is so knowledgeable and the subject is so interesting I recommend everyone take this class. She is a very caring and understanding person. The projects are time consuming and you must study! Great class & Professor!
Her lectures are based off powerpoint presentations which make it difficult to adhere. So, if youve already signed up for this class, make sure to read the book and understand it. Although I learned a few concepts, I dont reccomend this professor for an easy A.
This is not a "light" class but it is interesting. There is no way to pass the tests without studying, so don't take it if you can't put some time into it. She presents interesting information but she does move fast, so if you can't handle heavy lectures and readings, you should look elsewhere. Definitely a college-level college course!!
This wasn't my favorite Journalism class, so I would choose a different elective if I were you. Her personality is kind of harsh and dry. The class was challenging but not impossible. Take good notes, don't miss class, and read all the internet articles and you should be fine.
The class is boring and the tests are hard. As long as u study for the first test u should be fine, but dont even bother with the other 2. They were impossible. I dont know where the material came from. The assignments weren't hard, but she grades them hard. I wouldnt recomend her.
This course is designed for students who have already completed this professors other courses. There is a lot of good information presented, but it is impossible to know the whole field of Journ/Media by taking this one course; the tests expect you to know the whole scope of Journ/Media. Be ready for a bad grade unless this is your field.
I agree with the person who wrote two comments below for jour 371. she is a feminist so be aware. in my opinion there were only maybe 4 classes i actually enjoyed out of the 15-16 weeks in the semester. she grades kind of hard and she plays favorites.ex: my friend in class got generally the same scores as me and got a B- and i got a D+. sound fair?
This has to be the most ridiculous class I have ever taken. She says its about men and women in media but really it is women and the men that put them down. She is a total feminist and be ready to hear about all the accomplishments her and her husband have achieved. I think she enjoys hearing about herself. Oh and her final is a joke, verbal final
There is alot of info and she goes fast. READ the internet readings she puts in her syllabus, they will be on the test. This is college; which means you have to read and do the work.
Don't take her class. She is very unclear on homework, I am not even sure she knew what she wanted. She had her grad student grade all of our assignments. This class was annoying and she didn't know how to stop talking.
She seems overly complicated. She goes so fast. I wouldn't go in expecting better than a C+. Don't ever expect to get out of class early. We only needed to use the book for the 1st test. The rest were based on the lectures and internet readings. Don't really understand her grading...guess it depends on her mood.
This class was interesting. It's hard to study for tests because there are so many readings/notes from which to study and it was hard to narrow down the most important info. The projects are fun because we got to channel our own interests into them. Don't slack off. Learn to take notes FAST because she presents a million slides per class!
wow super hard class!! really long powepoints. really confusing notes, when its test time you have no idea what to study, casue you dont know where to start. homework assignments are easy but for some reason nothing makes her student assistant happy. its really hard to get a good grade on those assigments. tests are really hard and confusing! bewar
I agree with everyone else. The class material is difficult and she does not explain things well. Her exams are VERY difficult. However, try your best and you will pass.
Very hard class, really confusing notes, very unclear in her lectures. She's not willing to help nor give extra credit.
This has to be the most difficult class I have ever taken. Very hard class, really confusing notes, unclear in her lectures, a lot of reading/notes! Her grad student grades all of the assignments, and that “little girl” is a hard grader! Learn how to take notes really fast because she expects you to write down all the Power Point notes! There is no
There is no way to pass the tests without studying; the tests are very hard to study for, there are too many readings/notes. You must read all the internet articles. I got “A’s” and “B’s” on most of my assignments. Although I was able to get 80 and above in 3 of her tests (including the final), she still gave me a C+. She's not willing to neither h
Ok, seems interested and good at putting out her media points/topics. But tests too detailed and difficult. Looks, acts, grades tough. Asking about help with group forming/make ups beacuse of documented conditions results in a Get me documentation and a vague "Take responsibility." Gave make ups but plays dumb that being late means u need more time
She's an amazing, accommodating professor. If you're a typical lazy CSUN student who wasn't able to attend any other university, she may not be the best choice for you. She cares about her students and the subject matter. Yes, there are a lot of notes. Yes, the multiple choice exams are pretty rough. Her class is great. -fin-
Useless teacher! Her lectures are so unorganized and hard to follow. Felt more like psych class from hell than a jour. class. Drove me crazy with her stupid group projects, I thought I was done with those after the second grade,so good luck if you get stuck in a group you don't like. Oh and her final is oral, and as useless as the rest of her class
Clearly does not enjoy her job or her students. Tests were hard and ridiculously specific.
This woman is on the ball. She knows what she is doing and has a lot of contacts. At the same time, she is a hard nosed busniness woman who is not the friendliest person, which is why I would not take another one of her classes. Be prepared to write EVERY note and read ALL the assignments.
Really smart professor and I learned a lot. Studied like crazy and got a B (which was fine). SHOW UP FOR EVERY CLASS TAKE GOOD NOTES! She speaks in all technical terms that don't make sense, but memorize them and you will be good. Raise your hand a lot because she favors people who participate. Didn't use the book. AGAIN, TAKE GOOD NOTES!!
The first day I think everyone was scared because a few people ended up dropping. I was really worried about her class, but I got a B! I studied my a** off for the first test & got an A. Then I got a B on the next one & failed the last one. She seems "hard" but u'll be fine just take REALLY GOOD notes & participate bcuz on the oral she has favs!
This class is all about group projects, so if you're not comfortable working in a group or doing presentations in front of the class, than this is not the class for you. Her tests were pretty easy, however her lectures are disorganized and she jumps from one subject to another...overall an okay teacher.
outstanding
Class 465: I don't recommend her. She is a very tough grader. Her class is boring and her tests are so detailed. She asks you about all useless details that you don't care about just to trick you and helps you getting a bad grade. The project was fun but her final is an oral test and this is not fair. She is a biased person.
Not a hard class, just ridiculously time consuming and confusing. She doesn't explain herself well and then expects everyone to be able to analyze the media based off of the theories she teaches. You work your butt of for your grade, so be prepared...
I have taken 3 classes with her thus far and I have to say she is one of the most engaging, intelligent professors at CSUN. I guess most of these ratings come from lazy, disinterested students, which doesn't surprise me at this school. Go to class, take notes, and talk to her and you will get an A. She is EXTREMELY fair.
I won't BS you, it was a hard class. Eisenstock is VERY intelligent. She knows her stuff. She teaches really fast, uses powerpoints and expects COLLEGE students to keep up. You really have to try hard in her class. 1 group project, a solo presentation, and an oral final. Haven't taken the final yet, but will be studying all week. Shes very helpful.
She has a PHD so of course she'll talk down to you. Oral final she belittled students. Those who can't do or fail teacher--IM thinking it goes well with her
She's a really nice and sweet lady but you really have to understand all the concepts in her class. Make sure you go to every class and write down all the material. Her first test is really hard but the second is easy. There are 2 presentations so make sure you pick good group members. I'd take her another class with her if I could.
This class requires a lot of note taking. She moves very fast when you are taking notes. The first exam that is given is extremely difficult. You have to an insane amount of work when you do her projects. If you don't like oral speaking I would avoid.
This class was really easy and if you take good notes during lectures and do the work she assigns you will pass with no problem. Her tests are multiple choice and are relatively easy.
worse professor ever. she is extremly ignorant and not helpful at all. she has taught for 30 years and is a doctor but does not try to connect with her students. the amount of work she gives is horrible and too much for a 3 unit class. She doesnt care if you dont speak english and she uses alot of hard words and will not explain. she does not email
She was very passionate about the subject material...first test was hard. I learned a lot, but was not excited to go to class. she lectures the whole time....and it can get very boring. Overall, I did like her though.
Extremely knowledgeable professor on the subject! Her format involves lecturing with her power points, which are well made but the amount of info in one class can be overwhelming. You will learn the subject well but I recommend that you don't miss a class!
A very good Professor. Best at CSUN. Let?s face it: most CSUN students are unintelligent. So, of course she will receive a low ranking. You need at least a week to study for each test, but she will help you if you simply ASK! You get a professor who FAR EXCEEDS any other CSUN professor (if you can even call them that), then take her course.
FIND ANOTHER TEACHER. Condescending and arrogant. Brushes off students questions and leaves them hanging. Makes you write notebooks of notes even though she uses about 5% of what she covers on tests and doesnt tell you which things. She actually emailed a student "I hope you know it took me time to read that" in response to a "Thank you" email.
Eisenstock's class will open your eyes to what's really out there in the media, the things you're looking at everyday. The concepts are pretty straight forward, if you know how to take notes you'll be good to go! Fun videos, big project at the end but get to choose own topic, it's fun but start early! No HW!! No quizzes! Two tests, sweet lady :)
She knows her material and test are based on her lectures in which she even gives test questions ! Fun to take and you learn a lot especially if your a journalism major .
class is pretty damn easy and the way she looks at the media is interesting (although i don't buy all of the theories). highly recommended.
I tried really hard to enjoy this class, but it was impossible. Her tests are ridiculous. She does know what she's talking about though, I'll give her that. But she always tries to get ahead of her syllabus, which is annoying since it makes the material even more confusing because she tries to cover them so quickly. I dreaded going to this class.
avoid.
This class for me was pretty boring because I am not interested in history of mass comm. and knowing news anchors etc. however, I did all the work, attended classes, studies and I received an A. I was scared to take her after some comments, but if you do the work - you will succeed. Now I am more confident taking low rated professors!
Very helpful and wants every one to pass. She will help you and if you attend class and participate and she know who you are you will pass the class. I received and D in Midterm and Final and passed the class with a B.
By far my favorite CSUN journalism professor. Loves her work and is passionate about teaching. She is a hard teacher but I learned SO much. I still think about the theories discussed in this class often. I freaked out about the final project but it is a lot less work than it sounds. Study HARD for midterm and final. Make notecards! I got an A!
Love love LOVE this professor. The class is very managable, and assignments are do-able. Online tests for specific chapters are due before the test themselves (the actual grade isn't checked), and news quizzes at her discretion. Does not allow technology in the classroom, so be sure to take notes quickly from PowerPoint. Very informative course!
Professor Eisenstock is very knowledgeable about the subject she teaches and is pretty approachable. She does come off as slightly arrogant at times though, but as long as you keep up with the readings and participate she'll like you a lot. And if you read the textbook and take somewhat decent notes, the tests will seem ridiculously easy.
Great professor. Gives lots of lecture notes so write fast. Knows her material! Very interesting class. Very helpful as well. Study the book and your notes for the tests and you will be good. Very clear about everything. Highly recommended for Jour 100.
Although you learn a lot and the course topic is an interesting and important one, I advise to choose a different professor for it. She seemed laid-back at first, but that changed as the semester progresses, and her attitude effected how I felt about the class. However, it really is an informative elective class to take and you get a lot out of it.
She's extremely involved & knowledgeable in her field but her class contains A LOT of material. She runs through her class-only powerpoints very fast and you must write everything down otherwise you will miss material featured on her exams. Staying on top of the weekly readings is crucial from the 1st exam onward. if S.I. is available, use it!
Knows her stuff! Pay attention to stuff that she repeats and that is in red on powerpoints...this is test material. Read the book as an outline..pay attention to powerpoints.
Professor Eisenstock is definitely my favorite teacher at CSUN. She gives a lot of notes and the class is fast paced but she really cares about her students doing well and she's very passionate about journalism. There are about 4 exams including the midterm and final. The exams are mostly based on her notes so pay attention and don't miss class!
This is a very hard class with a lot of material. Definitely one of those classes where the professor gets very personal with her students. Yo'll only get an A if you convince her that you are REALLY into the material.
I don't know why Eisenstock receives such low scores on here. She is SO knowledgeable on the subject and she is really nice. For an older lady, she really understands the youth society and tries to make class fun. Very interesting class. You have news quizzes about once a week that require you to actually read the news. Overall, I want her again.
She is a great professor that really knows her stuff but she goes over so much during one class period. You will write pages of notes during one class. Her class is a lot work. She is very picky with spelling and puncuation. I would recommend her but be really to work hard.
Let's start off by saying, this is not an easy Professor. She is very passionate of her profession. I personally do not like her teaching methods. All reading materials are online instead of a book, but it's way more material. She doesn't answer emails, but will talk in person. I would advise to seek someone else. You either love her or hate her.
Classes are long and can be dull. Prof relies excessively on PowerPoint. That said, she is very clear about what exams will cover, so tests are easy. Prof is very sweet and tries very hard to be helpful. I didn't do any of the readings and skipped 2 classes and the final project, but it didn't hurt my grade, so it definitely isn't difficult.
She is an expert in her field but a bit confusing as a teacher. She is extremely passionate about the subject and excitedly bombards you with a lot material. She tends to go on and on instead of getting to the point. No laptops in class and don't even think about texting. Just tell her what she wants to hear and take good notes. No book.
I regret taking this class! Her class is mainly based on power point lectures and she doesn't even allow enough time to jot down notes from them because she flies through the slides. She doesn't allow phones out, and will take them away if she sees you on one (what is this, high school?!)Beware! I've never disliked a professor till i met her.
This class has NOTHING to do with Journalism. No book, assignments are all busy work, and her PPTS are a joke, 100 slides per class and she clicks through them at lightning speed. Tests are based off of her disorganized lectures. Super against using technology in class even though this IS A MEDIA CLASS. My best advice is AVOID. DO NOT TAKE HER.
SOLID professor...u gotta work hard to get an A...not many people get them (ill guess maybe 15% of class...but u gotta study study study...even if u do...u will doubt urself on some of her questions because of the wording. Not a bunch of hw however...just couple of prjects...but dont take her cus u think she's gonnaa be easy
If I had be given the option to get my wisdom teeth taken out, put back in, and then taken out again, I would have done that instead of take this god forsaken class. Her lectures are boring and disorganized, and she does not utilize a book or moodle. Tests are based off her insane, JK Rowling style PPTS. If you even remotely enjoy journalism, AVOID
Don't take her. Period. Just listen to all of us who have been there. Unless you have magic powers and can go back in time to read her freaking slides to study for tests, then go for it. If she sees u with a phone she'll take it and hold it for the entire period until nutrition- i mean, after class.
I really enjoyed her. You do gotta work for the A but I mean this is college folks. What do you expect. She does go 200 mph thru the power pts but if you simply tell her to "slow down" or "go back" she will. I found her helpful in office hours when I reviewed my old tests. So definitely utilize her. I'd take her again. She has lots of knowledge.
Worst class I've taken. Shows slides and doesn't give enough time to copy them down. Then you are tested and expected to know a million concepts. RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!
Professor is very nice, pretty easy there's no textbook required. Att. not mandatory but you will miss out on the notes and there's alot. So be there ask questions and take good notes because they will be on the test.
To get a good grade in this class u need to TAKE EXTREMELY GOOD NOTES! No textbook needed, she posts everything on her website and the readings will help u understand what you learned in class. LOVED the prof, she is very knowledgeable and is very passionate on the subject which makes the class very interesting. A+
Everyone says she's so bad, and I read her reviews before taking her class. I took her for two classes back to back and I enjoyed her and her class. She's very knowledgable about the subjects she teaches and you just have to be a good student on top of your stuff, if you're lazy don't expect this to be an easy class.
This was a case where I was surprised by her low rating. Sure, some of the lectures are dry, but it is because of the repetitive nature of the material. I found actually reading the book shortly before the tests (3) to be my way to success. If you can take notes, keep up with her and stay attentive it may not be necessary. Overall, easy enough.
Hands down the best journalism professor at csun. She knows everything on the topic. It is the most interesting topic i've ever learned. Yes goes a bit fast during her lecture but you can ask her to go slower. She really cares about her students. I've taken two of her classes and if i could i'll take another. I highly recommend her!
Professor Eisenstock has clear expectations for her class and she will let you know what she expects from you as a student for certain assignments. News quiz every week, not a lot of homework, 2 midterms and 1 final. She is super knowledgable on the topic
Her lectures are power points with a lot of information, but she goes through them so fast. Weekly news quizzes, a midterm and a final. Her study guide is oral and she lets you know almost everything that will be on the midtermfinal. A few assignments that are pretty funeasy. Not an easy A but not hard either.
There are bad reviews here but I can guarantee that Eisenstock isn't as bad as these people make her sound. She's very passionate about what she teaches & knows her stuff. This class is actually interesting & I learned a lot from it. There's a lot of reading & tests aren't easy but this is college. I took her J100 class too. She's a good prof.
Dr. Eisenstock is inspirational! She knows her subject field very well an shows you during her extremely long but fascinating lectures. She is my idol. She will make you read like no other and if you skip class you won't pass! Be prepared to give 100 percent. Amazing theories to be learned, she won't disappoint. You will learn how to be change.
Very un organized lectures that she just rushes through. The tests are very hard, I spent a good amount of my time studying for her tests, and writing her papers. All and all shes a good professor that will help if you ask for it but I would take a different class if it isnt your major.
Have never been disappointed with a teacher-lecture style before. Concepts are not easy to understand & she zooms through the slides that are essential to note. As you are writing furiously she is explaining the concepts that you can't pay no mind to cause you need to focus on writing notes. can't record her or photograph slides. Could be better.
It was the worst time when I took this class. She is tough grader and she doesn't let students take notes because she goes very fast. If you have to take this class, go find another instructor.
An amazing professor. Her lectures can be long & fast but if you ask her to slow down she will. 1 midterm, 1 final, few writing assignments & a group project. This is not an easy A but if you work for it you can get an A. You will have to get in the habit of reading. Her theories are interesting. Responds to emails fast. Willing to help students.
One of the hardest teachers I've taken but one of the best as well. Be ready to learn. She goes fast through her slide shows but will slow down if you ask her to. She is a tough grader but she tells you what she's looking for. I would definitely take her again!
Professor Eisenstock is very difficult. Her lectures are extremely long and she just talks at the students instead of engaging with us. No one is given the chance to participate. She goes very fast in the powerpoint and many people do not get to write everything down. You have to know random facts for the final and it is HARD. Do not take her.
Professor Eisentstock is a well-educated professor and truly is passionate in her teachings. This class is not difficult, but since I took a Friday class with her, there were limited moments for questions, and a rush in lectures to the extent where there was just confusion. The only frustrating part was not having enough time to finish assignments.
Professor Eisensock has a great background and is passionate about what she teaches- however the class is hardly interactive, there are lectures everyday that seemed very rushed and almost every student I spoke with left confused. When going to her office to ask for clarity, I still left confused at times. Did not prefer her teaching style.
Eisenstock is intelligent and compassionate. Beware: She doesn't forgive phone usage and absence easily. Be aware of your outward behavior and interest in the class because she will take note of it and it will either help or hurt your grade.
Horrible class. Walked in thinking I'd be learning about Pop Culture, instead she was lecturing her so-called media literacy slides. Give us a break, woman. Yes she's an expert in media but doesn't teach well. Felt extremely uncomfortable in class as she was rushing through concepts & slides. Sad that she's an inevitable prof. for all JOUR majors.
Never got an F in college until I took her class. Very uncaring towards students. Miss one assignment and you won't pass the class. Everybody I spoke to in the class said they didn't pass. Worse class and teacher I've ever had, CSUN or otherwise. How this woman is still allowed to teach is beyond me. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!
Very heavy work load/lecture. Tough grader on assignments (there are MANY). She is a nice person but flat out says that she rarely gives As to students. I've worked very hard in that class just to maintain a B average! Would not recommend. BRING A COMPUTER FOR NOTES. Goes through slides so fast that w/o my computer I wouldn't have passed with a B.
Amazing teacher, great class. The only criticism I have is that she goes through her powerpoint too fast, so it's hard to take don much information. But I enjoyed having her as my professor.
Probably the worst professor ever. Goes through her powerpoints WAY too fast! Doesn't tell you what to study, so you basically have to study the entire book and her lectures!! AND if you miss class, she'll probably fail you. Been there, done that. I'm pretty sure I got an A on the final, but she still failed me! Horrible!!!!!!!!!!!! DONT TAKE HER!
You basically have two tests, 50 questions each/multiple choice, and final. The final is different/challenging because it's oral, but she gives you plenty of chances to prove yourself. Take notes fast/ record the class through your phone. It's impossible to keep up with her by writing every single thing, so pay attention to what she repeats.
Avoid like the plague. Please, save yourselves. Countless students lives have been academically destroyed. We took one for the team, so you don't have to suffer. Run and run far, and then change your address, name, and even social security number. Id rather eat my backpack than go back to her classes. They had nothing to do with journalism.
Shes not that great. I can list 3 students that were scared of her. Shes not approachable. Her lectures were fascinating. Her subject matter was fascinating. If you have to take her class. Sit in the back. Dont say that much. Blend in. Dont use the laptop. Cuz she walks around checking if you are taking notes.
AVOID like the plague is right! Goes through lectures so fast, can't even take notes on laptop & doesn't put up "slides" (bunch of screenshots of stats & articles). Didn't include a textbook, you just had to be able to read her mind I guess. Final exam was oral & totally unfairly graded. Tough grader and not helpful when you need to ask her ?'s.
I have never taken a class so difficult at CSUN before, she is the worst professor you can take because she goes by the slides so quickly, she doesn't let you take pictures of the notes, she doesn't post the lectures online, she speaks very fast, she doesn't tell you what's on the exam, expects you to know everything and overall; just a bad teacher
You just have to show up and do the work. Theres two 50 question exams & the final is an oral exam. You have to say enough to get a decent grade. But as long as you try youll be fine. Its usually a ugh mood the whole time but totally doable.
I loved this class- it was hard but it's an upper-division college course and the topics are kind of hard to understand. I liked the way she taught and the topics. I would recommend taking notes on your laptop if you type fast because the lectures are quick. Oral final which was tricky but if your really knew you stuff you'll do fine on it.
This class was interesting, if you are a journalism major, she teaches a lot of the same concepts you learned about in your lower division courses. The content she talks about is neat but she makes you learn several different theories and makes you apply allllll of them. Take notes on your laptop and pay close attention.
I got an A but this class was tough!! Definitely needs to make lectures and homework more concise. 2 multiple choice exams and provides a review sheet but the lectures contain so much info that you end up stressed! You'll have to study from the lectures, videos, and readings which contain 50+ pages on data. The final is easy if it's the oral.
Mrs. Eisenstock's class has a lot of information. She uses power points mostly, they go really fast, and she won't go back for you to copy, and doesn't put them online for you to go back to. She doesn't use canvas, she has her own website. Nice person! but is very work oriented.
RUN... JUST RUN! Especially if you're a non-major! This class was one of the most tedious classes I've ever taken in my College Career! This is a Service Learning class meaning that if you don't participate and submit paperwork to the Office Of Community Engagement, YOU WON 'T RECEIVE A GRADE! This class isn't worth the credit!
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!! this woman is THEEE worst. she uses her own website so you never get to see any of your grades, you don't know what you're missing because she's so confusing on saying what is due. Doesn't make time for her students. AVOID SERVICE LEARNING! she gives 0 individual feed back. yet expects you to figure it out. AVOID AVOID
Look you bunch of whiny useless students. Eisenstock's class was awesome. She's great. Engaging. Her assignments are creative and thought-provoking. Y'all just want another class where you leave it the same way you walked into it, blank canvases. Eisenstock isn't like that. She'll teach you something. And will have an impact on you.
Eisenstock may have a reputation in the Journalism dept, but she will actually teach you what you need to know. There's weekly media journals, a midterm, a project (40% of your grade), a reflection, and an oral final at the end. As long as you do well on the project you will be fine in the class! WARNING: She doesn't post grades
2 test (20%), 1 final (10%), 1 project (50%) . does not provide notes on canvas, nor allows recording, has her own website where she will post about 15-20 articles but gives no guidance on what you need to read. Very rude will shush you and give you the hand. Picture an online class but you HAVE to attend to pass. only take if its only prof avail.
Do not take her unless you are ready to drop everything else. She gives a lot of homework.
I was in her Fall 2019 Diversity and media class and passed with a B. You can really see all the effort and care she puts into teaching. This is not an easy class but well worth the studying and group assignment. I recommend taking any of her classes.
Taking notes on her lectures is key to passing her class. She doesnt use canvas, you use her own website, and theres LOTS of reading to be done. If you take notes and do all of the papers on time, you have a good shot at passing. Make sure you study for the exams and ask her if you have any questions. She wants everyone to succeed.
Dont let other ratings scare you like they did to me, shes an amazing professor that teaches exactly what you need to know. Lots of note taking so I recommend bringing a laptop. Wants her students to do well and has curved tests. She will go back to slides that are important and put a lot of focus on stuff that will be in the exam. Loved her!
First of all, if you don't have the ability to jump into notetaking mode and figure out what your Media Deconstruction project will be about, you'll most likely not pass the class. If you're lucky, you'll be able to know if you passed the class after the oral final because she doesn't use Canvas and doesn't notify you of your grade after 1 mc exam.
Bulldozes her students who typically like to speak up and is very rude to her students. Very inconsiderate to her students' feelings and isn't clear about a lot of her work and will make you feel stupid for being confused and asking for clarification. Take this class if you want to be undermined by a professor! I would never take her AGAIN.
SHE DOES NOT GRADE THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER! YOU LITERALLY DON'T KNOW YOUR GRADE EVEN IF YOU ASK! Furthermore, I have never met a professor more condescending and unaccommodating in my life. AND DURING COVID NO LESS! She never elaborates on what she wants, and she makes you feel stupid for asking her to elaborate. Boomer incarnate. DO NOT TAKE!!
Amazing professor. You can tell she loves what she teaches about. She did not assign a lot but when she did the assignments were very detailed and extensive. She's very accommodating and willing to work with students for extensions and makeups. Take notes, pay attention, and ask questions because she can be a bit unclear.
Such an unclear professor. Her syllabus is very confusing, and her assignments are always unclear. Tests are also very tough because of the way she words things, as well as the amount of time given for so many questions that are supposed to be "critical thinking."
IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR SANITY DO NOT TAKE HER. I have never been so stressed over an elective class. She is unclear about assignments and projects. Her instructions during the lecture and the prompts posted on canvas do not match, so it completely confuses the life out of you.
I really enjoyed this class. The lectures were very informative and interesting to hear. Her first test was 60 minutes for 60 questions which was difficult, but she listened to our feedback and made changes. There are quite a few discussions, two exams, and a final group project which were all pretty easy as long as you understand the concepts.
If you're looking for an easy class, this is DEFINITELY not it. Huge project with 7 parts to it. Confusing about requirements and is very rude. Busy work like crazy and thinks that this is the only class that exists in CSUN and that students have nothing else to do. 1-hour test for 50 questions and no the answers are NOT online. Don't do it.
I cannot imagine the level of difficulty of this class if it was in person and not on zoom. God forbid you ask her a question; she gets irritated and answers with an attitude. She made us do so much work, causing panic within the whole class. The first group project had so much work to do, we begged her for an extension.
Please beware of this professor. I am in two of her classes back to back ( other being 372), she assigns major projects in each class and we pretty much navigate it ourselves. She also makes 365 hold a news lit event without telling us before hand and doesn't let us use tools like presentations to hold it. It's mentally draining :/
I do not recommend this professor at all, it was THE most difficult and confusing class I've ever taken in my life. constantly berates the class, singles out students, and always seems upset. It's like if you took the worst aspects of both a grad and high school class. Has little to no empathy for students during a pandemic.
Awful professor. Participation matters, but if you do participate you are most likely ignored or met with attitude. Assignment rubrics are always confusing, but if you dont follow properly you have to redo the assignment. Zero sympathy for students during a global pandemic. Id skip the professor if possible, material is very outdated as well.
Dont recommend her. LOTS of papers w/ confusing instructions and unwilling to help. Lectures were pretty dry, but still show up because you could miss a lot. Group projects are total chaos no directions or help on how to do project, just reiterates it in confusing way. This class was TOUGH. Dont take this class, had the work of two classes in one
Don't taker her. Her lectures are very long and boring and was hard to stay engaged. Her directions are all over the place, so confusing and little help. Tons of work that had the class so overloaded and stressed. Very opinionated too, don't question her politics, will snap back at you. Made the class overly political, this is not a poly sci class.
There are A LOT of readings EVERY WEEK. As a person she is nice and kind+knows what she is doing but she goes though her lecture in crazy speed you never have time to properly take any notes. She also doesn't give her pdf lectures. Don't know how I could do this class if it is not online solely because of how fast she lectures, okay grader tho
I think Professor Eisenstock is very intelligent and knowledgeable in Journalism and Media. I learned a lot but don't think she has the best interpersonal skills. She'd say things like "there are no stupid questions", but often cut people off mid-sentence and was rude at times. I didn't feel comfortable speaking up, honestly.
I hate to say it, but she's kinda rude. She goes way too fast and gives out so much information and weekly readings it makes it difficult to review for tests. She straight up said she was disappointed in our mid term grades but did she curve? No. She's passionate in what she teaches so if this isn't your major, its not going to be easy at all.
1.She gives us projects that are hard to understand 2. She cant take criticism 3. can be rude and think shes in the right 4.the class wanted an extension and she did not do it its easy in the beginning but its hard in the end. if you take her class do everything in advance
Horrible professor, I thought "she shouldn't be too bad". NOPE she is the worst. Never take her class, we had a very unclear group project that seems more appropriate for grad students. She doesn't post her slides or lectures and goes very fast. She is also very rude and she is not an understanding teacher. The whole class was confused.
i must have been horrible in a past life to deserve this
Her lectures are long and hard to follow bc she goes way too fast. She never posts her slides on canvas, so be ready to take screenshots. We just finished our group projects and the way she's asking us questions about it makes me feel like she's just looking for an excuse to embarrass us in front of the class for not knowing every little thing.
Professor Eisenstock is an overall great professor. This class is a lot of work and she packs a lot into her lectures so be prepared to take a lot of notes, but she cares so deeply about everything she teaches. Whatever you put into this class is exactly what you'll get out of it. The more you engage with the class, the better off you'll be.
She's rude, passive-aggressive, and not above gaslighting, and that's only the beginning. Zooms through her slide shows at lighting speed--mind you, this is a 3-hour class, where there should be more than enough time to clearly go over them. Not clear in her instructions for her projects either. Genuinely one of the worst learning experiences ever.
Professor Eisenstock is a very tough professor. Her lectures are too long and she doesn't post any of them on Canvas. If you ask her about your grade, she responds rudely. If you have a different opinion than hers, she will make you feel stupid. She gives out way too much work to just be an elective class. And she gives out like 3 final projects.
This class was a lot of work, but I've learned more than I have in any class. The final was a group project so be prepared for that. Attendance is necessary for not only your grade, but your comprehension of the material.
Be ready for projects! In my class, we had three in total, one being the final exam. Two of the projects were also group projects. It's a very time consuming class, but if you're prepared to work hard, it shouldn't be overwhelming.
She is tough professor she does not believe in students cheating. you have to put work and study the materials. She gives each student different version of exams which is a good thing. The class is a challenge. make sure you read the materials and study for the exams. I guarantee you will learn so much end of the semester.
All classes I've taken with her are incredibly lecture-heavy with no discussion with students. She interrupts students when they speak, shuts down questions, and doesn't help you understand the material. Her projects/assignments are unnecessarily confusing and repetitive. Seriously, you take one class of hers and you've taken them all.
Her material is EXTREMELY outdated. The most recent she's had was from 2007... Not only that but she showed us a project from one of her old students and she proceeded to use that as the lecture for the day.. She isn't inclusive at all. She is rude to students who have questions and are curious to learn more. It doesn't make me want to participate.
Completely unorganized with scheduling. Project that was worth 35% of overall grade was due a few days after an exam. Final, which was on the syllabus as an exam, is instead a group project, which, reminder, is not too long from our previous project. Would not recommend this professor if just taking for credit.
Do not take this class with her or any class with her. This is the 3rd class I've had with her and they've all been miserable. She makes you feel dumb for asking questions or if you don't understand something from her extremely long slides (that she doesn't even share with you on canvas). If she's the only professor for J372 I recommend taking J371
The biggest problem with this professor is her biasness. She teaches about gender equality, but if men are mentioned in the curriculum, it's only to say that they are privileged and the cause of female issues throughout history, & rightfully inferior. Men have been mentioned in a positive way, and there have been negative repercussions as a result.
I would not recommend this class with this professor if you can take another. She focuses only on lectures and group projects, including the final, which is the worst thing I can imagine. This class is not balanced in its work, and the professor is well known for her attitude. This can be such an important class for people to take just not with her
I usually get A's in all of my classes and I got a B in her class. This just goes to show she takes her job way too seriously, the amount of reading she gave us each week was laughable and completely unreasonable. I can't say that I learned much from her class. If you can avoid taking her class AVOID IT.
As a student who has a job, bills, and an apartment to pay for, this is NOT the class to take. She does not record Zoom lectures or uploads PowerPoint slides for reference, essentially making you choose work or a lecture some days. She also has an attitude and frequently talks down to or talks over students. Avoid avoid avoid.
picks and chooses what gender issues she talks about. If you miss the zoom you will do badly on the exams. Speaking out when she presents is immensely awkward and she does not let you have ground when voicing a concern. Luckily the exams are not too difficult if you go to zoom but she speed runs the presentations it is hard to take notes.
She likes to do pop quizzes but at least tells us what week she has them. There are 2 midterms and a final group project. Take good notes because the midterms are based on it but it is open note. She doesn't post her PowerPoint and goes fast when lecturing so I suggest taking pictures. Overall she's an okay professor, the subject was interesting.
If you miss her lectures, you won't pass. There are required readings before each class (on books she wrote). She's incredibly lecture heavy and grades tough on big projects. I wouldn't take her class if you don't have to....
I am not exaggerating when I say that she is the worst professor I have ever taken. Just awful and so condescending. She wanted to belittle students and put them on the spot, that alone made me uncomfortable to be in class. You cannot make any mistakes in this class, don't expect basic kindness from her. Overbearingly difficult.
Professor Eisenstock has a unique teaching style that requires active engagement. While the workload is heavy, using unstuck AI and staying on top of the material can help you succeed. Tough but rewarding.
