Do not take this teacher. She isn't very clear and many times confuses herself. The work isn't hard, but don't learn anything.
she sucks. most of the time she's confused as well as the studentsand. you don't learn anything and she's a bore. DO NOT TAKE HER
Take her - you'll survive and get the grade you want as long as you are prepared to do the work asked of you. How you enjoy the class depends on you and not everyone else. The professor is not out to fail you and cares.

She will try her best to help you but you have to ask.
She's an okay teacher. The T.A.s are really helpful. The book, her notes, or MCWeb went together. It was like learning from 3 different things. She's helpful in a way but must read book or get a really good tutor to help you.
If you dont understand whats going on in day1 good luck with the rest of the semester. Puts lectures on blackboard but you have to go to class for participation points. if you never taken chem or its been over a year that you havent practice it good luck! There are too many exams to close together like every 3 weeks. And MC webs due on weekend suck
Time management is a foreign concept for her. How could one finishes graduate studies without knowing such concept?
Just because a 70 is a B- dosent mean that theres no way you can fail. Theres a reason why theres a big curve. dont let this class slip by a week. do the mc webs because just because you can redo them untill the end of the semester dosent mean anything your still missing out on points for the exam. Once your lost your lost for good!
If you want to take a self taught course, she's your man. Talk about confused and disorganized. The only thing more difficult to grasp than the material is her lectures. And do lot listen to her when she says--this won't be on the test. It will. I would avoid this instructor at all costs.
She is really hard. During the semester she said everyone could pass if they did their homework and went to class everyday.. That it's the effort you put in that counts in the end. WRONG! SHe reviews powerpoint into two weeks before she will assign it- horrible freshman experience in her class.
if you're lucky enough to have taken chemistry in high school, you learn a lot more than you learn here. learning through computer screens are difficult enough but the homework on the internet is even more ridiculous. she doesnt really help you understand unless you ask her a question every 10 minutes. You really dont learn anything in class
Reading and studying the text is ABSOLUTELY NESSESSARY if you want to pass. While she may be as organized as New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina... she still gets the material across if you listen. If you know the materials on her study guide you will pass her tests because she is generous with partial credit. GET AHEAD AND DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS
Very unorganized and difficult to undestand. She goes way to fast for anyone to understand. She puts two quizzes + test + lab report due on the same week. She expects 20+ hours after class to be put in for her class only. 50% of the class is currently failing, and the semester is almost over. The TA's even agree she isn't a good professor.
Horrible teacher! The lectures are very vague so they do not prepare you at all for the tests, or homework. Like the last comment said everything is due the same week. The book is little help. It is basically a self help class. You can go to office hours but she is rude. DO NOT TAKE HER. I am usually an A student now im an F!
Well she wont be teaching 120A next semester so for you Fall of 07 people your lucky. For those of you taking her for 115 :( i will pray for you!
ummmmmm what to say about this one... THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD !!!! she moved toooo fast, would try to present a new concept on one slide in the last 30 seconds of class... and ur expected to completely know it. she always seems to busy for her students, and if u ask a question in class she makes u feel stupid. HORRIBLE plz dont take her!
She lectured too fast. She is a nice person, but maybe not the best teacher. A note to future 120A students: Make sure you do your MCwebs. Ask TAs in lab and activity any questions you have. ATTEMPT EVERY activity question during activity. Don't use that time to just chat! Use it to study. It will help you get the concepts down.
Great Teacher. For all the negative comments I've read about her NONE are true.I took the class over the SUMMER, and it was not that difficult at all.If you TRY, you will AT LEAST get a C or better. She lectures at a pace that you are able to follow along with a slideshow. She gives MANY examples and practices. It's up to YOU to make use of these tools
Im a slow learner and went to office hours after EVERY class, and practically gave up my life & still got a low grade. Lectures are really fast-paced, to understand material you must read before coming to class. She offered EC but didn't report it in my grade and said "oops! oh well"... Don't take her if you really want to learn something.
WOW! I would advise not to take her. Although she really does try to help, BUT is not successful. Shes fast, doesn't teach material well, the tests are ridiculous, & the study guides are as vague as possible. I wish I would have read the comments before taking her.
the way this class is taught is really horrible, and no one ends up learning anything. i relied on the excellent TAs to actually show me what was going on every day. one good thing: shes always willing to help if u go in during the office hours- i would go several times a week and it made a difference.
This class was very challenging.... but the proffessor was very helpful and encouraging. To get a good grade its nessesary to pay attention and get tutoring outside of class. if you do this you'll to fine:)
Terrible. Unfortunatly, I had no choice but to take her again. Both experiance amounted to vauge study guides, cryptic test, and answers must represent her opinion.
Tests aren't that hard if you study and pay attention in class. But, she likes to take points off for little things on tests and homework. Good teacher but very disorganized. She calls on people in class so pay attention!
Dr. Gonzalez is so incredibly disorganized in her lectures, I don't know how she is allowed to teach. She flip flops material around, and teaches hard details first before showing you the fundamentals. We learned what an atom was the 3rd or 4th week of class, after learning nomenclature and ionization rules. WTH?
Worst teacher in the world. Very hard because she is so disorganized. NEVER TAKE HER!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! chemistry isn't easy but oh my god this class has been HORRIBLE...its all chaos and disorganization. If it wasn't for the TA helping no one would learn anything. You have to teach yourself. if you're already signed up like i was and then you looked her up...good luck
She is horrible sent from hell to ruin my life!! She is useless and if you get her as a teacher you might as well drop it. She is disorganized and expects her students to learn on their own. She does curve but its cause if she didn't everyone will fail.
She sucks.
She is a horrible professor.
She was pretty hard and confusing...she ALWAYS confused me when I asked her something. I tried soo hard in that class and I still ended up with a B- and I just think she's not that good of a professor.
Shes not as bad as people say she is. As long as you have taken chem 115 before you take this class your pretty golden. Class is pretty simple and test aren't to bad either. All power points are posted online. Just redo all the group exercises before each test and ull be fine.
circles ideas to much and focuses on its history instead of teaching the concept. this causes her to be confusing. she goes to deep in the meaning of things
She is the by far worst professor I've EVER had!! it's bad enough that she's DISORGANIZED, BAD AT TEACHING, DOESN'T PREPARE HER STUDENTS AT ALL, but worst of all, she makes A LOT OF MISTAKES! i seriously don't know how she is allowed to teach.. what kind of teacher gives out WRONG INFORMATION to their students?!?! if you can, AVOID HER!
Well I got an A. She doesn't lecture very well but her test aren't that hard. You just have to do the group work she assigns that no one ever does. Her test questions are basically like the homework.
She is passionate about chemistry but unfortunately, is not very good at teaching it. The lectures starts off very detailed and slow then she speeds through material at the end of classes, causing confusion. I relied the book and chem tutors to get my B+. The material is simple but she just does a bad job teaching it.
took it in the summer. her teaching is efficient and focused, and she is very prepared.
Believe the reviews, she is not capable of teaching 90 students with a microphone attached to her lip. do not take her if you barely know any chem. you will end up teaching yourself or not passing even if you do go to every class. Avoid. take someone else.
I have never seen such a misleading description of a professor !! Dr. Gonzalez is outstanding. She is willing to do anything to help you succeed, and she really cares about her students. The tests are very easy, and are mainly based off of your "GE's and PE's". Study and you will be fine, I don't understand why everybody thinks she's so bad.
Her class was pretty straightforward and it wasn't too hard to get an A. Do the extra credit, mastering chem, and study for tests. She talks down to students. And don't waste your time asking her a question during the test, she won't be helpful. Also, her "experimental" teaching methods don't help you learn, they just distract.
Class was very difficult after taking placement test. Tests one right after the other. Quiz EVERY Friday. Lab was easy. Homework and class work every week. PowerPoint based discussions but discusses bare minimum. Gets off track easily. Use her office hours and form study groups. Class was 4 exams and 2 finals 12 quizzes, homework classwork and participation.
ok she is by far the worst teacher i have ever had. i used to enjoy chemistry before i had prof gonzalez. she talks down to the students, teaches useless material and expects you to know everything else. i taught myself everything from the book. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
she knows what she is teaching, however it does not come across clear. exams are pretty tough, but there is a lot of other points given to help you pass. go to her office hours she will help you along with the TA's. review sheets are nothing like the real exams. not an easy class even if you understand chemistry.
It's hard to stay focused in lecture because of the classroom setup. I didn't really learn anything in that class. When it came to exams, I would do the PEs and GEs and I would get decent scores. Lab reports are pretty much worksheets. TA's help a lot with lab reports. Go to office hours and review sessions!
This class isn't too hard but you do have to put in the effort. Reading the txtbook is a must! GEs & PEs are extremely helpful for Quizzes given every Friday. She had a different class setup but i think it worked well. She is very accesible. Email her or go to office hours. No reason why shouldn't pass because I failed 3 out 4 tests and got a B+.
Any class you work hard in you will pass, but even well-meaning students must know a great deal of chemistry going into this one, and it is misleading at first re this. She is very concerned about her research and promotions; will waste your time then rush ahead, leaving many completely behind.Vague lectures are somewhat interesting but impractical.
Extremely helpful and willing to guide you through problems. She teaches directly from the text and outlines what she expects before each exam
Worst teacher ever. Lectures are completely pointless and irrelevant to the test material. You HAVE to do the PEs and GEs because this is where she pull test questions from. She does not curve the tests, and over half of the class was not passing at the time of the final. Only got an A because I literally studied my a** off. DONT TAKE HER.
There is a great deal of irony in the fact that her research is based on student learning. I think this is a massive fail. She "babys" us with basic lecture material then slams us with difficult hw and quizzes. The exams are do-able just long. Still I am amazed as to why she is still teaching this course.
Horrible instructor. Focuses too much on easy concepts and not enough on really difficult concepts. If I don't read the textbook I have no clue what's going on. Try your best not to take her. Quizzes and tests are also harder than she leads them on to be.
She is very helpful and kind. However, do not slack of in her class. Always take notes and re-look at them. The GE's and PE's are what make up the quizzes and exams. They are not difficult but there are some curve balls in there. It is not an over all hard class. Just do your work, ask questions, and find study buddies. You can do it! :)
If you're looking to self teach yourself this is the right teacher. she is by far the worst chemistry teacher at Cal State Fullerton.her emphasis is on student learning however most people do not pass her class because she does not teach. I suggest reading the book on your own (do not learn by indepth concepts, however her tests problems are strictly mathematic). Avoid this teacher at all cost. other chemistry 120a classes were given 4 pages of formulas for the final but she only gives 2.
Do not take this teacher if you want to pass
The bulks of her exams are based on the GE and PE she assigned the class. Her class is very helpful for students who are in transition in learning the responsibility of how to do REAL college work. Also, before every exam and final, she has a review session that is extremely helpful. Take her!
Avoid her if you can. Gives a negative vibe towards her students, takes months to grade assignments and tests you on things she doesn't cover. I definitely do not recommend taking her class if you are new to Chemistry. You will struggle
I like chemistry as a subject but not her class. She is a nice person but an awful teacher. It took her MONTHS to grade our labs( by the end of the year we had 2 out of 7 of our labs back. Her tests are way harder than any of her homework or practice sheets. Unless you are good enough to teach yourself chem do not take this class!
Oh boy! Don't take this lady if you struggled with Chem 115. She makes the class harder than it is. Very unpredictable tests. First test is very easy, the rest are difficult. The material is very easy, but she makes the class harder. Turn in all GE's, do the homework online and prepare for the quizzes. You should be fine. If you can, avoid her.
She's an easy grader if you show all your work. Her lectures aren't very helpful if you understand high school chemistry or chem 115, don't listen to her ongoing bull-CHICAGO, just teach yourself. Study hard and you'll pass.
It's college: you are going to need to work for your grade. The tests are hard of course if you don't study. The group exercises and pair exercises are very similar to the test. She is always going on about how she is willing to help you, and she really is. With that being said, I really loved this class and she is a truly great professor.
4 tests, weekly FRIDAY quiz, and mastering chemistry. Her lectures are sort of boring and long but she keeps it clear and answers your questions. There are a lot of possible points and I skipped class a lot and still got a B. She gives you partial credit if you are sort of close and show that you know what you are talking about sort of.
This class is easy if you do the activity questions and the homework. Make sure to do the homework those are easy points and really help your grade! her lectures are sometimes dense but they're not too bad. she is very passionate about the content and gets really in depth. she is also extremely helpful, she has many study sessions, go to them!!!
Want to teach yourself chemistry? Take her. You will have to teach yourself a lot of the concepts, because she won't. She will waste a lot of your time. Two hour class + activity, if you went to the first 45 min-1 hour, then left and worked on the material by yourself, you'd be far better off. Not a bad person. Just not a good teacher.
This class is TOUGH if you don't study. It requires a lot of work. The exams and lectures are unnecessarily complicated but the concepts aren't bad. Thankfully, there are many other ways to get a good grade in the class. Dr. G is a sweet lady & is always willing to help when you need it. She appreciates effort so study & work EXTRA HARD to pass.
Dr. Gonzalez is an excellent lecturer and teacher. Her expectations and tests are very clear (based on GEs and lecture notes) and all materials are posted online. She frequently teaches more clearly and in depth compared to the text and holds extended office hours before every exam. A very good choice for Gen Chem I.
Very smart. Dr Gonzalez is very helpful and approachable.
I've had her for chem 100 for like two weeks and I already extremely dislike this class. The class is difficult just because her lectures aren't clear AT ALL, her power points are too vague to be helpful, and nothing she teaches is even remotely similar to what is asked on the homework. Not excited to take her tests, avoid taking this professor.
Why do calculators disappear? Because of their low vapor pressure. Besides for the not so funny jokes, her class was a breeze. The tests were practically written from her GE's, and I found her lectures to be clear and concise. If Gonzalez's class is hard for you, you might want to rethink your major. This class was practically high school level.
A few weeks into this class and I knew it was going to be difficult. You have to teach yourself everything. the examples she does present in class are not close to what you have to do in homework and they don't help for the exam. She doesn't give any direction. If you're not a chem major then don't take this class.
I barely passed idk how! Lectures aren't very clear with what's on the mastering Chem & that's a big chunk of your grade. There are 3 exams (drops lowest) and 1 cumulative final (she doesn't really review for this). Study guides weren't helpful at all she just copied the objectives from the textbook. Test MC, short answer & mini essay.
Just read the textbook yourself to study and go to class to see what she focuses on, and that will tell you what will be on the test. Lots of people struggled. Do not take her for the GE class - she's more suited for higher level classes because she makes things more difficult than they actually are. Not very clear. A very nice person though.
Lecture, Activity, and Mastering Chem taught the materials in different ways. Pay attention to the lecture and you should be fine. Use the activity class, textbook, or office hours if you need extra help. If you took a highschool chem class then this class should be easy.
Great professor knows her subject really well. she is very helpful and really cares for her students. You really have to work for the class and the grade. Not a easy class.
She is an amazing professor! Really recommend taking her, especially for CHEM 120A, because her lectures are on point and are exams ARE based on the things that are learnt. Quizzes happen every Friday but are do-able. Maximum amount of homework is 3 assignments but randomly collects one of them on Friday before the quiz.
Horrible professor. Chem 120A is supposed to be split into lecture and then activity however she spends the whole two hours lecturing instead of doing activity. She may seem nice but she is rude and when students asks questions she will give a lot of attitude. Horrible professor and tests heavy. Find a different chem professor!
She seems nice but when you have a one to one with her she really brings you down!!! Her classes is really convoluted and she tends to go off on tangents about the subject that are not even on the test!! TALKING ABOUT HER TEST!!!She forgets to put information in on them in order to solve a problem and she expects you to get it right...............
She seems really nice but holy crap this class has given me so much anxiety. The highest test score any student got in all 5 of her tests was a 79%. Luckily she HEAVILY weights the class so as long as you have higher than a 55% in class then you get a C. But still, beware this class is going to kick your butt. DONT take this class online.
Dr. Gonzalez provides a lot of resources online. It is very hard to narrow down what will be on the exams or not. She is also VERY rude. I went to her office hours to ask a few questions and to properly introduce myself since the class is online. She looked at me like I had two heads and proceeded to tell me how horribly I did on the last exam.
Dr. Gonzalez honestly was an amazing teacher for this class, she's so caring and kind with all her students. I suggest if you don't understand a topic, read her lectures or the book before class or go to office hours because she rewards for effort. Luckily her class is so weighted as long as you get above a 55 you'll pass. Not difficult to get A/B
Overall, Professor Gonzalez is a good professor. She gives out lots of homework every week and didn't provide any extra credit. She goes quick through lectures. Sometimes it can be hard to understand what she's teaching, so it's best to read the textbook and look up videos online. Her tests and quizzes include FR and multiple choice.
I took half of this course in class/half online once covid hit. Id never taken chem in hs so I needed this class to take my higher chem classes. Even before we went online I was lost. She assumes everyone has basic knowledge on chem & I didnt. She gave me attitude when I would ask for help, drowned me in online assignments, never taking her again!!
I took her in the spring of 2019, she seems like she is nice but is very condescending and mean spirited. I wouldn't suggest her as a professor, luckily my Lab TA was super nice bless his soul. Classes are so heavy with lecture and powerpoints, the only good thing is that she does explain and answer your questions just get on her good side ..
The content of this class wasn't difficult, but Dr. Gonzalez's teaching style was not helpful. During her lectures, she would call on random students for answers even when we just learned the concept. She also answered questions with a mean spirited attitude like we were supposed to just know everything.
Very condescending, expects you to know and/or remember everything from high school chemistry or Chem 115. Will test on material learned the day prior. Quizzes every friday, 4 exams and the 2 finals are back to back. If you have to take her because she's your last resort, student learning outcomes are your best friend.
She was rude and singled me out the entire semester even though I genuinely tried to do well. She doesn't; input grades on canvas and gives grade sheets instead which is kinda stressful. When you ask questions she's really condescending. If you can take a different professor please do so.
I would not recommend taking her for CHEM 120A if you don't have a good background knowledge of the subject beforehand. Her lectures are confusing and she is extremely unhelpful when you ask her for help. She is also a really tough grader and does not offer any extra credit. Be ready to rely on Youtube videos for the entire semester.
Please do yourself a favor and avoid taking her at all costs. Her lectures are absolutely useless and she goes off on long tangents. There are weekly quizzes, 4 exams and 2 back to back finals.
She is one of the worst professors that I've ever had. Her lectures are confusing and she is very condescending when you try to ask questions during office hours.
Honestly, I would not have survived this class if it wasn't for the AP Chemistry course I took in high school. Group study sessions and groupmates are the way to go; they will help you with your lab reports and together can study for her exams. She does weekly quizzes and collects GE (homework assignments). Harsh person to interact with.
This is not an easy subject to learn and this professor makes it even more confusing with her teaching style. She was not very helpful and is rather rude when answering questions. I often left her office hour sessions feeling discouraged and more confused than I was before I came in.
Avoid please, unless you have a good chemistry background from AP Chemistry and or have a well-developed idea about chemistry. Please save yourself time and effort and avoid this person. I couldn't have passed unless without my Chemgroup mates and chill Lab professor.
You benefit going in with a basic chemistry background but getting a solid B without it is managable. She assigns a lot of worksheets but grades them easy. The exams cover the material from her lectures. The most difficult part is her style of teaching- it fits some not others. You can always go to her office hours for help-she's pretty accessible.
Professor is very rude and mean-spirited. Would get upset when people would ask questions and would take forever on a few concepts during class. She'll put material we barely covered in exams, overall avoid this professor if you can.
Dr. Gonzalez is really nice, but is condescending when asked simple questions. Quizzes every friday and 4 midterms, 1 acs exam, 1 final. Does group activity every week, so you meet your classmates and you can ask questions if needed. drops two quizzes and 1 exam. I genuinely enjoyed her class but her teaching style definitely isn't for everyone.
