extremely easy class, you cant fail it! its distance learning, 3 tests and 1 short paper.
Easy, no need to watch the videotapes and read the book, just go over to the review quiz on the telecourse guide text.
Three exams and a written paper. The exams are from the study guide and no need to waste money buying the text book. Exams are 50 pts. each and paper is 15 pts. Awesome class and pretty much easy.
Basically, if you go to the reviews, you'll find out exactly what is on the exams. All the questions are on the study guide. The 1 writing assignment you do is so easy. Write anything and she'll give you full credit as long as the length is at a minimum.
Wonderful teacher, Easy class and easy A. Class has 3 tests and 1 written assignment. Before each test, just spend 5 hours to go over quizzes in the study guide and read some readings. You will get A definitely!
i've recommend this teacher to many of my friends. tba, 3 very easy tests and one super easy paper about a movie you watched. tests taking straight from questions in studyguide. sooo EASY!!!
All of her classes are easy. Take all of them. She's also a good lecturer and very nice. Highly recommmended.
EASY CLASS! Don't buy the text book, it's a waste of money. All you need is the study guide to the course and you will get an A in the class for sure. I never watched those videos nor did I go over the review sheet and I still got an A. Questions are straight out of the study guide book.
i bought a book to see the pictures. her exams are easy if you study about an hour. however, she grades very easy so, you may get an A without having excellent grades on Exams. she teaches you very clearly in easy way. i really enjoyed her lecture.
This class was a breeze! Only even thought about it for a few hours before each exam. Don't waste money on book, or time on the tv shows, just be able to pass the practice exams in the study guide and you'll ace the test! The review sessions are also helpful!
Her class is easy. But her scoring is weird. she has three tests and a paper. I got perfect score the paper got a A on one of the tests and B on the other. SO for me to get a A in the class I had to get a perfect score on the third test. But the rest I agree with the other raters.
this was a friday class from 8-12 but the longest we'd ever stay in class was 2 hours.. all you have to do is listen to lecture and remember pictures and you're set..very easy class..
I just bought the guide book and I got B's all her mid-term tests..I didn't read the book at all. Her test are very easy if you read the guide book. All multiple question and one short written assignment. If you just want the unit take her.
I enjoyed this class a lot since it offers many basic concepts about arts that everyone should know of. Everyone is right that all you need is to read the study guide, but going to her review is important too. Super easy A.
The text book she recommended is interesting but expensive, it's fun to read. The study guide is a waste of money. 1 midterm, 1 critical film review, and a final, the film review was fun to work on. But the tests is absolutely an A send from heaven. Take her @ all cost for humanities!!(^ ^)
Please all readers disregard what the previous reviewer said about the study guide. The study guide is NOT a waste of money! THE TEXT is the one that is a huge waste of money. The exams follow the study guide VERY closely. Study the guide and do the practice questions. it is easy A.
This class is easy if you put in a little effort. All you need is the study guide. Read the study guide and study it before every test and you should do fine. And try to make it to the reviews because she will go over things that aren't in the study guide but are on the test.
She is very very kind and there are tons of extra credits!!!!!! I like the way she teaches because it makes the subject looks easy! She is the best teacher ever!highly recommended!!!
pay attention and take lots of notes and you should get an A! I didn't even buy the book, I just studied my notes and the study guide before the test and I got an A. You don't need the book. don't waste your money to buy it! She also lets you out early too!
definitely recommended, shes a great teacher. really easy and interesting. if you do all the work which isnt a lot, youll get an A for sure. her tests are multiple choices and really easy.
am i the only one who thought the tests weren't HELLA HELLA easy? yes some of the q's are from the practice study guide book but not all of them.
This teacher is great. The lectures are interesting and very clear. She gives you review handouts and questions. If you go to class you can get an A. Take all the classes from this teacher.
Her lectures are very clear, but you should take notes if you want a good grade. Gives you a study guide before the test and will help you with the questions if you need it. My only issue.. it's obvious she has taught this class many many times.. so at times it gets boring as her lectures seem memorized. Otherwise, a nice lady and fairly easy class
great teacher! i'm a science geek and she made the class interesting for me...plus easy A!
Super easy class !!!!!! Take any class with her. She is also super nice !!! Thanks!!!
EASY A.Go to her class,take notes,study for exam-tada,an A.We have 3 field trips-1 is extra credit.She is nice,carries a warm smile.I like the class!``Recommended teacher!!~
distance class. just do the quizzes every week and keep them somehow. it will help for the 2 midterms. there's one paper which was pretty easy to do. take her distance! idk how she is normally but the distance class is good! got an A.
I had her on fridays from 8:30-12:30, concentrated on staying awake. Lectures run from 8:30-11P.M. Gives out a worksheet at 11p. Do worksheet, study the worksheet. Get an A. 3 exams, 3 field trips, , 3 easy essays reflecting on field trip. It's ez to get an A, you just can't be lazy. You have to have memorize the wrksheets/study guide.EZ A.
ONLINE COURSE. Very easy. Practice quizzes resemble midterm and final questions EXACTLY. Copy them down somehow so you can use them on the test. 3 written assignments with an option of using the textbook or watching online video. Therefore, purchasing the $100 book is sort of pointless. Take her, it's easy.
been on the waitlist many times and never ever got into the class even though i was high on the waitlist, if you take any class, A or A+ if you can write at all or breathe
I took the online class and it was pretty easy. Never read the book, I wouldn't buy it. Save practice quiz answers, the tests use the same questions. The hardest part is to remember to log on and do your assignments.
really easy. copy down the practice quizzes for midterm 1 and final! about 75% of the questions come from the practice quiz. no need to buy book, but it can be somewhat useful.
She knows what she's talking about! Exams are easy, just read the handouts. Wish she was a little more approachable.
easiest class ever! i got perfect scores for all 3 exams and that's also because i studied. though class may be boring, you would know that hoffman is passionate about what she does. dont know why people say she isnt approachable but she actually accomodated all my requests and she answered my questions well.
Even though her tests are multiple choice they are pretty hard. She may be nice but the class is extremly boring. Doesnt really have anyting to do with creative minds its more like an art history class!
She's very attractive and knows a great deal about art. Her lectures are very informative and interesting. Midterms are multiple choice and are fairly straight forward. There are in-class assignments on a weekly basis and some essays that are straight forward as well. Just study the works of art she gives you and you'll be fine. Highly recommended!
Does not take attendance, but in class assignment on last day of class of the week so have to go that day. No make up or late work accepted. Gives EC. Really nice. Class is straightforward and easy. You will pass as long as you do the work. Not hard at all. Take her! Loved the class, learned a lot of things that could be used in life. Amazing class
If your interest is to gain knowledge, wisdom and understanding then Ms.Hoffman's HUMI 1/CREATIVE MINDS teachings is that of expertise and challenge accompanied with her professional& mature deliverance. Barbara's teaching style demonstrates her educational knowledge and experience. She lectures with such enthusiasm and even flow.SUPREME KNOWLEDGE !
I took her online humanities 15 class. It was more art history-ish. Textbook is mandatory. Assignments are incredibly easy. She responds to emails quickly. I haven't seen her in person. The hardest part was remembering to sign in to Catalyst. Everything else was pretty easy peasy! (I like writing so it was "fun and relaxed.
Very sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable on the topic. Study guides are given for each quiz that has 50 questions & only multiple choice. 3 Art Museum visits required along with a 2 page report. Many extra credit opportunities offered.
EASY A CLASS!! She's very sweet, kind, and super helpful. She never get mad with late students or stupid questions/answers. She will give A as long as you do the homework or assignments. NO FINAL
The teacher basically teaches art history not humanities but nevertheless I found it very interesting. You have to read one book in order to do the homework every week. There were three quizzes and they are easy if attend and study your notes. Its an easy A.
BEST BEST BEST teacher in DeAnza!! As long as you do the homework and assignments, attend the class and make notes, you will receive an A! Three field trips to interesting places, assignment every field trip and textbook is needed for homework. Quizzes are easy if you pay attention in class and NO FINALS!
You don't need the book so don't bother getting it. Forums every week, and little writing assignments, honestly not that hard of a class. SAVE the practice tests and chapter outlines cause the answers to the questions on the test are in there. Make sure you get a good score on the midterm, or it'll bite you in the butt later.
I took her twice and she is amazing. This class was super easy and fun. There are 3 field trips and at first I didn't want to go, but looking back now it was a lot of fun. I don't think there is a teacher easier and nicer than her. I have taken so many courses after taking her classes and I always wish I could take her again someday!
Really kind and helpful professor. She is lenient with dates and will help you out if you ask her. Tests are based straight off the lecture, so take good notes and be able to identify artwork. Would recommend taking her.
Took the class online. No extra credit. Each point really matters... Weighted heavily on mid term and final. Very easy to lose points on the tests since the subject matter is so plentiful and varied. If I knew how the class was going to go at the beginning of the quarter I probably wouldn't of taken it... but I fared well.
Basically, She Is a very good professor and her Teaching is very clear and nice, she is very passionate and she loves teaching She is very nice in person and everything seems fine. Until you get your first mid-term. her examinations are from hell, she gives you only 60 minutes for 84 Questions Toughest grader in my life + questions are confusing
Great teacher! She's super nice and passionate about the material. Her lectures were interesting and I learned a lot. The class is organized and easy to follow. The readings were great. Tests are based on lectures and she gives you handouts to study. Pretty easy if you come to class and take notes.
Really enjoyed this teacher, she was very sweet and kind, there is a lot of work though, but if you want to learn new things then thats the cost. It was fascinating and we learned so many new things and reaffirmed things some of us knew already. I highly recommend her , you will read a lot and write a fair amount. She has a lot of group tasks.
Easy A if you attend every lecture and invest time to study well for midterms and to write the final essay. She gives in-class assignment and homework, but she doesn't really check them, so just do it, and you'll earn the credits for it. She also gives extra credit paper
Currently taking her online summer class and you definitely need to study for the tests; SOME answers are on the study guide, but DON'T rely on it!! 7 forum posts (Read + 2 paragraphs), 1 midterm, 1 final. I don't think she actually reads the forum posts bc I have seen someone copy & paste the entire beginning of Wikipedia.....
I got an A, barely learned anything because it was so easy. She gives 35 minutes to answer 35 test questions (majorly unfair for the majority of de anza students who speak English as a second language), no test makeups, even if you have a health emergency, no extra credit. Didn't respond to my emails. Not a very compassionate teacher
show up, pay attention and you're good to go. she is super caring and nice and the class was interesting. I'd take any class she taught.
She is nice. The lecture is amazing and interesting. There is homework every week and it will be discuss in class ( in group). She will not check your homework. You have to study hard when exam. Just remember the handout you will get good grade. Take her class !
One of the easiest courses I've ever taken. Come to class, take notes, do your homework and you will get a hundred. seriously. well of course study for the test but I woke up 2 hours ahead before class studied and got a hundred. I'm currently taking her class. Her homeworks are easy including her in class assignments.
Took this as an online class and there was too much reading. 3 chapters for each exam, but the chapters are way too long to even remember the details she asks for in the tests.
1 discussion post + 2 replies to other's post each week 3 exams + 1 essay (turnitin) and that's it! Definitely an easy A! She gives you a clear prompt and framework on how to write your discussion posts, replies and the essay. So dun be intimidated by the assignments. No need to use textbook at all.
Probably the nicest professor in de Anza!!! Her mid-term is based on the study notes she gave, it consists of 60 multiple choice which 20 of them is identifying artwork and naming them. Just study the notes and you'll be fine.
Her class is freaking easy. You can sleep or even be late to the class. It's so easy that I got an A without studying. If you are really that bad, just do the extra credit.
Don't take the online class. There's too much work.
I really enjoyed this class. She's very knowledgeable and her lectures were interesting. It's not hard to get an A. She gives your lecture handouts to study for the exams and posts the readings on the website. She's very sweet. One of the most informative and enjoyable classes I've had. Highly recommend!
she never really teach anything and also! her exams are very hard and she assign a lot of work every week and she give a super low grade! do not take her if you dont want to fail a class
You need to follow her requirements sentence by sentence for each forum and the only paper. No extra credit. Don't need that textbook, ask students who have attended her online class for how to do her exams.
I took Humi1 with Professor Hoffman and I really enjoyed it. It's straight-forward and not difficult to get an A. There were 6 discussion forums, three tests with 30 multiple choice questions, and one paper assignment. Professor Hoffman is nice and helpful. You don't need the textbook because she gives you power points and other study materials.
I took her online class and to be honest she is a tough grader and very strict on rules, laws and timing. Mostly she only taught about Western history and culture but very few details about Eastern ones -- which are much wider and deeper. You have to buy or rent a textbook in order to follow her instructions in discussion forums and online exams.
Very solid professor for HUMI 1. She is indeed lecture heavy but we had very little homework. Homework was just online reading and you would submit your response online and there was only like 4 of these assignments the whole quarter. Pay attention to lectures and study for the exams and you will do fine. She offers EC points on the exams as well.
I took her online class. It was nice, not too much homework. 1 assignment per week.
Definitely easy A class. Just read handout for every test and you'll get A.
Even though Barbara is very helpful during office hours, the class itself was still uninformative. There were a lot of essays needed to pass the class since they are worth a lot of points. She has a strict essay guideline. Not an easy A for a GE.
I believe that the reviews posted below are from the earlier online HUMI 1 classes. The class recently changed. That meant more essays than quizzes. This made the class significantly harder as essays are worth 3x as much as quizzes, which were much easier. Combined with the harsh grading, this class is no longer an easy A as it used to be.
Taking this class made me think that the below reviews were from a long time ago. HUMI 1 online was not an easy A as I expected reading the reviews. It was very hard and confusing. The assignments dragged on and hardly any A's were given. I would avoid this class.
I ended up with a B but I also had an awesome tutor who taught me way more than the teacher did. The class structure and grade rubric was the only thing that was really of any benefit to me since it was a hybrid course and some grades were dropped. Not the worst teacher I've ever had but you will have to put in a lot of studying time.
Dr. Hoffman's online HUMI 1 was alright. There weren't too many things you were graded on. We had 5 discussion posts, 1 paper assignment, and 3 MCQ exams. That's it! She graded the discussion posts and paper assignment fairly. Overall, a very laid-back class for the Art GE. You don't have to buy the textbook as her lecture slides are very detailed.
i took her online humanities 1 class and her exams are way too difficult. The questions asked are not even related to the material covered by the textbook or Professor Hoffman lecture.
exams are way too dificult. doiesnt rly care baout the class
Ez class. Just study off her worksheet, and study the pictures she wants you to know you will be fine. there are extra credit on each exams too. You can only miss total of 4 hr of class, if you miss more you will be dropped. Attend her lectures and you will be fine. She s a good professor for in person HUMI1.
I took HUMI1 online and it was very easy. Professor Hoffman grades fairly easy, so if you do the work you'll get a good grade. She also gives feedback on every assignment and is very helpful!
Barely read at all. CTRL+F is your friend during exams and quizzes. Not all test/quiz questions are easily found online so have the provided textbook PDFs and notes open. Time locked exams which is annoying if you're looking to knock out work ASAP. Discussion post HW for each chapter's topics so get ready to BS responses. EZ busy work for A
The textbook for this class is provided on canvas so no need to buy one. Class is graded by weekly discussion on art, where you choose an art piece to talk about 3 exams and an essay which are all fairly easy. My advice would be to do the discussion as soon as possible since there are no repeats allowed. She is really easy I would reccommend her
This class wasn't my favorite, but not at the professors fault. I personally have never been interested in the fine arts and criteria for them. The class was straightforward, and the teacher was always responsive and gave good feedback. You could tell she is genuinely kind. I would take any class taught by this professor but not the same subject.
Easy class, just do the discussions for HW and have her chapter outlines open for the exams. Nice professor, fully asynch class but workload was easily manageable
Very easy A. The assignments and tests were pretty straightforward. Just make sure you do all of the assignments. Not a heavy workload
Professor Hoffman is nice and caring. There are weekly discussion forums with 1 paper assignment which was easy and 3 exams. You just need to open the exam study resources like chapter outline and slides and you're good. The textbook is given free by her so no need to buy one. No final!
Very easy, textbook is given on canvas so no need to buy one, for tests just use the study guides given to study (ofc you should also read the textbook as well), weekly posts on reading and discussing articles (articles are typically short, depends on what type of article you choose too).
She's very nice, immediately responded to my email about a join code. The class is easy and straightforward as she's an easy grader. The instructions for the assignments are a bit overwhelming, but easy once you've gotten the first one out of the way. Would recommend!
Very easy professor and you just have 1 discussion post each week. Not a lot of reading and she gives a very clear rubric. The exams were easy as well. Very quick to respond through email too.
Focus on the integration of arts in civic design and its influence on society using periods of history as a measurement. It's a great course to bring understanding history, sociology, and art together. There are no extra credit or make-up assignments accepted. Follow the required format for paragraphs and word count if you want to succeed.
Not a lot of reading (a chapter each week) and the textbook was free. One discussion post each week, based on websites or articles, unless there is a quiz or paper. She is very detailed with her expectations for assignments, and following them makes the class easy.
What a rad instructor. This discussion-based class exceeded my expectations. The reading load is heavy, and the quizzes sometimes didn't align with the PowerPoint study guide; a weekly lecture might have made that material more accessible for me. The discussions were the highpoint! So cool. If you want to be inspired by the arts, take her class.
Weekly discussion posts + reading, easy tests
