Barbara Jones changed my life. She is insightful, enthusiastic, clear and very organized. It is amazing to see how much you can improve in other areas of your life by taking a class with her. She isn't the easiest of teachers, but certainly one of the best. Thanks Barbara Jones!
do no take this class. i didnt like her. she was unclear as to the directions on the first test and I bombed a section of it, which kept my grade down. maybe i'm just bitter.

Her class is very interesting. She makes the tests very easy and she is sooo nice and helpful!!! She is also very smart and knows what she is talking about. she shows passion for anthropology and wants her students to pass!
Professor Jones is great! Very enthusiastic and breaks the classes up with movies and field trips. She made the subject pertain to the classes lives and made things completely understandable. She reviews extensively before tests. I would love to take her for another class!
don't take this teacher she is very confusing and annoying when she speaks. she nic picks every point off your test and i copied the deifinitions on the test and she still takes points off from the notes i take from her.
She was interesting and very openminded, loves her job. There is a lot of work, and you have to do all the reading beforehand, but she's helpful. Tough on papers, so make sure you know what she's looking for and ask questions if you are not sure. Do extra credit assignments. Trips and class debates are fun and refreshing.
I like this teacher. She is almost too nice. She cares about her students and is happy to help. The more interest you show the better. You can babble like an idiot, and she is just happy you are participating. Don't take her class if you want to skate by, but if you do the work you will get an A.
a very interesting class although she lets students debate to the point where i feel like my time is wasted. even if you take exact notes which is impossible becasue she skips around and is impossible to follow at times, you will bomb her tests she is a ridiculously harsh grader
she rules, she is really nice and a good teacher, class is a little hard but its okay cause if ur not a bum and put effort in and talk to her and be friendly with her, youll like this class
Not the easiest teacher, but I loved her. She inspired me to THINK, not just memorize facts. I loved her projects, the tests weren't bad. She encouraged us to speak our mind and debate. She didn't just sit there and talk, she asked us our opinions. Treats you like person, such a respectful and wonderful teacher! Thanks Dr. Jones!!
I had her for English 122 and she was very tough with the papers. Though being tough, she helped me out alot with my writing and has henceforth allowed my research papers to be more proper format-wise. Very smart woman.
She's is an awesome teacher. A little difficult, but she wants her students to learn!
If you don't know how to write an essay before you take her class, you WILL know, once you've taken it. She is an awesome teacher. She wants you to learn. She has a passion for cultural learnings. Very interesting class. She will proof read your papers, tell you what to fix, let you fix them, and then give you an A, if you've done what she advised.
Very good teacher. It's not the easiest class, but if you show up and put in the effort, you'll get a good grade. She wants her students to learn and to pass, and she'll help get you there.
Excellent professor. Made the material very interesting and easy to understand. Great discussions in class and fun field trips. Would definitely take another class with her if it was offered. Tests were manageable and not too much homework.
She is the best professor, made the class fun and I learned a lot along the way, very inspiring.
Dr. Jones is a GREAT teacher! I have now taken four classes with her and she has made a profound effect on my academic career and no doubt "career" when I leave school. She goes above and beyond any teacher I have had in helping her students to learn not just pass. Take her if you really want to learn something about the world we live in.
Good teather. Very intresting.
She is a wonderful, down to earth professor- and she is incredibly intelligent without being like "look at me im a smarty pants"
excellent professor. I knew nothing about anthropology but learned to appreciate the science and importantce of it.
Barbara Jones is a great teacher. She has you write papers on interesting and current cultural topics. She is a tough grader but will proof read your papers via email.
Compassionate teacher who truly cares about her students but is not lenient with major grades. Interesting subjects and easy but frequent work make this class tolerable.
This is by far the smartest woman I have ever met. She knows everything about EVERYTHING. She is extremely nice and lets you out early. All of the assignments are an easy A. The only thing is the testa are kind of hard because they are not multiple choice they are all short answers. But she makes it interesting and easy to pay attention.
I enjoyed her class very much! She makes the subject matter interesting and athough her short answer tests are not easy, she gives many opportunities for extra credit. I would happily take a class with her again!
Very intelligent woman...she made anthropology interesting and taught it the perfect way
FAVORITE TEACHER. SUCH A SMART, CARING PROFESSOR. IF ONLY EVERYONE WAS AS INTERESTING AS SHE WAS. MADE A SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT SUBJECT VERY UNDERSTANDABLE AND FUN. ALSO MADE GOING TO AN 8AM CLASS WORTH IT. EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. I HAVE ALREADY RECOMMENDED HER TO ALL MY FRIENDS.
i KNOW i bombed her class but it was my fault. i really didn't pay attention in class.. theres A LOT of notes and you need to have a brain to remember all the things she says but she is pretty easy. its my fault i failed and i should of payed more attention which i regret. i say take her! even though i failed. she was a good teacher
never payed attention .. just wrote down the notes. which were alot and the tests were longgg!!
never paid attention, but wrote down the notes, the test were super long but not too hard, as long as u knew the material, u could bs the answers. u need to read the assignments she gives. i never did the h.w but still got a b
Dr. Jones is without a doubt one of the BEST (and nicest) professors at brookdale. Anthropology is not a well known subject but she made it relevant and important. Make sure you take good notes and write down what she writes on the board and LEARN it for the tests. TAKE her class! you won't regret it
She's a sweetheart! Very energetic and LOVES whats she teaches. She gets the whole class involved, and she gives interesting assignments. (Nothing difficult) She makes you think about the world and makes you appreciate diversity. You go on field trip too. You could fail her class, and STILL want to take her again. She's THAT good! TAKE HER!!!
jones is an excellent teacher. if yu skim through the chapters and take notes in class you should pass. test are a little more difficult, more essay than multiple choice. but overall a good class, even at 8:30 am. take her class it will most likely count towards your degree at brookdale
Jones is a great teacher she makes everything crystal clear and always refers to an example to help better understand a concept. Homework is easy. Expect random quizzes in the beginning of the semester. Tests are another story, long open ended and rather difficult. if your up for the challenge take the class. offers extra credit as well!
nice teacher. you really got to memory things.
She is a really nice and great teacher. Take good notes and copy whatever she puts on the board. If you study those notes you should do well on her tests. The tests are difficult got an B on the first but then and A+ on the second and third. Going to class is key to doing well. Read the culture readings you get quizzed on them. Good luck!
Highly recommended
Professor Jones is a wonderful teacher and person. She really tries to help the students out with the grades because the class has a lot of material to cover. There's alot of extra credit in the class if you feel your not doing well. Overall one of the best professors i've had all year!
Best Professor I ever had! I changed my major after taking her class. If you want to be inspired and learn, take her. If you just are going to school to make your parents happy, waste your time in someone elses class. She is serious and puts in serious effort, therefore she deserves the same in return!!
AMAZING! good person as well as a great prof! I enjoyed her class and would love to take it again!
Very Passionate teacher, I still use what I've learned from her class on a daily basis. I'm an Environmental Science major but I might switch to Anthropology thanks to her.
Professor Jones is wonderful! Her love of anthropology is contagious! She is knowledgeable, kind, and crystal clear in her expectations. I took this class online and loved it! Participation in online discussion posts is important. At home testing and a few short papers. You will learn a great deal and enjoy yourself at the same time!
She is helpful but very hard grader. I was disappointed on her.
She's always happy and really into what she's teaching. Wasn't that easy but if you study for her exams you will easily get an A or B , allows you to do extra credit and there's a field trip to a museum
she was very detailed& organized with the online class instructions via angel. There were discussions every week& an assignment that varied-writing short (1-3 pg) papers to reading and answering questions.Tests were online& sometimes difficult bc the way questions were worded were different than textbook definitions you study. I would recommend her
I look back on my years at Brookdale, and I can say with complete confidence that this was my favorite class. Professor Jones was so passionate about anthropology that it was hard not to be passionate about it with her. Very helpful and quite easy. Believe me, take her.
Took this anthropology class online in the summer and loved it ..first class online and i enjoyed it shes a great professor and easy to get in touch with def recommend her!
Took this class online. Very easy, a whole lot of reading. Professor is very helpful. Class participation is a must! Your grade will depend on it..
I took Anthropology 105 online and it was a great class. The exams were hard you have to read the chapters. Overall she is a great professor if u email her she is responding right back.
Hard on tests all open ended. Tough grader
the tests were tough. and there was no extra credit for the class.i took online in 6 weeks. i got B- and i should have got B the grade book said i deserve B not B- and when i asked her she said the grade book is wrong.i think this should play in my side.
Great person, not so much a fan of her teaching though. Very tough on grading, but passionate about ANTH and gives you a lot to work with.
Dr. Jones is an amazing educator. She is incredibly enthusiastic about anthropology and her enthusiasm is contagious. Discussions or pop quizes about reading assignments are frequent. A very fair grader. If you can defend your answer she will at least give partial credit. She is easily accessible and will help you get the best grade posssble.
I truly wanted to like her but simply couldn't. Listen, if you're a math/science major or ANYTHING but an anthropology major, don't take her. One of those professors who believes you're only taking their class and have nothing better to do. Extra assignments for no real reason. 4 Exams + Interview project + essays each week + discussions each week.
Professor Jones is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I took the Honors version of this course. She talks a lot, so we fell behind in the syllabus. Her grading criteria were a mystery to me. Willing to read drafts to offer feedback. Encouraging and helpful. Two group projects. Three total presentations. Tests take the whole class time. Study!
Best teacher EVER so kind and caring she wants to see you succeed! Take her!
Dr. Jones is BCC's greatest professor. She is passionate about ANTH to the point where you can't help but be interested. She makes an effort to demonstrate how ANTH relates to everyday life. She is a thorough, FAIR grader. She is 100% invested in her students success. Make an honest effort, ALWAYS go to study sessions, and you'll truly EARN an A+.
Professor Jones , is a nice teacher but her grading system is horrible. Takes points for misspelling words !
To be honest, she's super rude if you email her or have a problem with an assignment. It's not a hard class, but frivolous assignments leave me knowing little more anthropology than I knew before the class. If you can choose another instructor for distance learning ANTH 105, I highly recommend you do so.
The online Anthropology105 class was a nightmare and I honestly hate to say that. She brutually grades assignments taking points off for every little thing leaving you with odd grades.. AND her exams were the unbelievable, she did not give a fair amount of time. for example: a 70 minute exam & we had 70 minutes to complete is beyond unreasonable!
She's awesome! Never too much work, but make sure you read and know what you're talking about. Good class. I only took it for credit, but it was enjoyable.
her grading is pretty unreasonable, and the comments she leaves on your assignment don't make much sense. She needs to give better feedback, and not take off points for every small thing. It's an online course but I only took for credit.
Professor Jones is an extremely tough grader. She takes off points for no reason so you will very rarely get an 100 on homework assignements. Her tests are nearly impossible and average about a 60 on each one. She is not willing to work wit her student to get better grades. It is her way or the highway. I do not reccomend taking her class.
She is an unreasonable grader, takes puts off for a comma. Her comments make no sense. Takes a while to respond to emails, and her responses do not even help. Unreasonable with tests: 74 question test with 4 open-ended questions and gives 80 mins. You need at least 5-10 minutes to write an okay response but still will fail. Doesn't care if you fail
Fully online class. Must read as all exams based on the readings. Exams hard, but doable. Do all online discussions+HW on time. Do extra credit and you will be fine. An interesting class. Professor is nice and helpful but strict grader. Would take again.
Great class! Classes and exams arent hard, but definitely pay gotta read the textbook to know definitions etc. Power point slices most helpful for exams. 1 paper and 3 exams. Prof. Masi does his best to make the class interesting. Would take again.
Took physical anthro with Jones (mid pandemic): this course is easy, it's just a bit of busy work honestly. Professor Jones offered 40 points worth of extra credit (out of like 600-700?), and I essentially chegged exams, but still had to write like 15+ papers (exams were LONG). Definitely an easy A, just a BUNCH of busy work. Worth it though.
Taking anthropology with Professor Jones was extremely difficult. It's work and more specifically writing intensive. If this is your first time taking anthropology I do not recommend. She's an extremely tough grader and in my opinion grades unfairly. I don't think she gave out a 100 on any of the exams or labs the entire semester.
Very tough grader for a level 100 class. Ridiculous amount of work. Rude and bitter. Do not take.
she is a sweet hearted person, although her online class was rough considering you are required to buy a text book & journal; she would call out students too read random sections. Definitely an overwhelming amount of information i barely scraped by with a 75 and i tried too hard for this elective lol
One of the worse professors I have ever worked with, dont take her unless you have to. She has a nasty mouth and is disrespectful. When I complained to the director he took her side and said he never heard of any complaints about her then I googled her and seen this page and negative comments. Brookdale Anthropology Department SHAME ON YOU.
She wont give you the grade you deserve she doesnt care about how much work you put into an assignment. ALL IN ALL VERY TOUGH GRADER!!
Really wish I hadn't chose this class an an elective. Gives a lot of reading assignments which can be very time consuming. Gets mad if no one reads. She'll call you out if you don't have your camera on. Her tests are nothing like the study guide. Tests are mostly multiple choice but doesn't give enough time for open ended responses. DON'T TAKE!!!
I will never take this professor ever again. She expects you to know exactly what she wants when she does not explain herself. She will fail you and give you no reasoning on what you did wrong. Her exams are extremely hard and the questions come out of no where. Would not take again
Prof. Jones gives amazing feedback and actually participates with students on the discussion posts, which I appreciate. She is very easy to get a hold of by email. The only thing I did not like about this class is that the weekly assignments are worth little to no points, so your whole grade depends on how you do on the tests and the final paper.
too much homework and very rude
Granted, it's been a year, but when she gave lectures they always seemed more like she was giving it to a class of middleschoolers than college students, and whether intentional or not it often came off as patronizing, condescending, or as others have said - rude. Often assignments just felt like busywork, lectures meandering and long. Harsh.
Professor seem nice but work load is heavy lots of reading and just felt like I didn't have time to focus on other classes. unfortunately I didn't want to take the risk so I just dropped the class and it's only the second week
I have never had such an awful professor. She is the harshest grader I've ever seen and will take off tons of points for the smallest things. This semester on the first test I got the highest grade with a 31 out of 60. I worked so hard and thought I did great. The class average was a 10. She will fail the whole class and not care. STAY AWAY.
I did terribly on the tests but as long as you finish every homework, project, and essay and "go above and beyond" you can do okay. There is extra credit but not much and its a lot of work. This class is difficult and she doesn't accept ANY late work. There is no excuse she will accept for missing a test or assignment. its intense but not imposible
This is the worst Professor I have ever had. I really thought the goal was to have your students succeed, not to make their lives incredible difficult and grade them this strictly. It's impossible to get a perfect score on any assignment. The amount of work per week is INSANE especially for a level 100 class. Do yourself a favor and RUN.
This is the WORST professor Brookdale has ever had! I do not recommend taking her class as she doesn't explain her assignments but expects you to know exactly what she wants, she doesn't give feedback at all, and thrives on your failure. She doesn't care! Please RUN and find a different class. I wish I read these reviews before I took her class.
Multiple assignments due every week & they are very time consuming. You'll be overwhelmed if you're taking other classes. IMO she's a super tough grader, even if you're a good writer. Some of her in-class remarks felt outdated/unrelated to the course material & dismissive/critical of certain groups, which made me distracted/uncomfortable at times.
While she is a great lecturer, the workload for this class is a lot. Be expected to read a lot of the textbook throughout the semester alongside multiple other assignments, all for a very small portion of your overall grade. Also doesn't explain many assignments fully and expects you to read her mind most of the time.
I liked the way she teaches but the assignments were impossible to get high grades on. She takes points off for the smallest thing. I wouldn't take her again for this reason.
I consistently put in all the work required to ace her assignments yet still earn mediocre grades every time. She's never satisfied with the content since no one ever earns 100's on any of her assignments. 2/3 of her q's on exams have nothing to do with the study guide, are trick q's, and worded poorly; she makes the class impossible to pass.
I would avoid taking her at all costs. She makes it SO hard to pass. She doesn't post the slideshows which have the homework, and instructions on them. If it's clear the class didn't read she'll give pop quizzes on it just to take grades down. Her study guides don't match the tests. She's rude in conversations, and grades very harshly.
