Every single class period is lecture right from the book. She rambles and says um....uh....um, more than she does anything useful. She doesn't give us specific information or write anything down...she just talks and you can't keep track of what she says.
She is definately not teacher material. You can't understand what she's trying to say because all you hear is "uh...um...uh..." She is not usually prepared. She doesn't give you any idea of what to study and she doesn't give you any notes. H
Agree with other comments. There's a web site on the back of the book that you can print chapter outlines from (basically the same notes she uses. Class is pretty easy, midterm was a pain!!
i want to shoot myself every tuesday and thursday morning just so i don't have to sit through another "uh...um...uh...aztec...jade...um" lecture!
one word: BORING
She is horrible, just rambles on and on aboput nothing. I couldn't stay awake for a single class. Didn't hand midterms back till last week of class. Pop geography quizzes. Definitely recommended shooting yourself before enrolling in her class.
SHE IS HORRIBLE! One time she said umm or uhhh 19 times in 90 seconds!!! She has yet to give us back our midterm, and we handed it in 8 weeks ago!!! I am not looking forward to the final because we haven't learned anything this entire semester!
unbelievably boring...i think i'd rather eat my own poop than listen to her uhs and ahs for 55 minutes...all she does is read out of the book! and we have 1 week left of the semester, and no grades!! DON'T TAKE HER!! i swear you will become suicidal!
She is the worst history teacher i've ever dealt with. I honestly could have taught that class better then her. I managed to stay awake only twice all semester during her terrible lectures. Don't take this teacher and vote to get her fired.
You will want to shoot yourself in the foot just to get out of going to class, she is boring and not very specific reguarding material. Her midterm was insane- 10 essay questions ahhh- don't take her preserve your sanity
Horrible horrible teacher! I have my final in her class tomorrow, and I still have no idea of one grade in her class. She still hasn't finished correcting our Midterms plus more!
She was the worse teacher ever. Her midterm and final was a joke. She never even handed back our grades until our final. She has no idea how to keep the class awake. All she does is read straight from the book. She should stick to her other job..
If you want a class u don't to go too--this is the one. print out the chap.outlines from back of book and youll be set--only a midterm, final, and an easy paper due the whole semester--doesn't require a lot of energy just boring.
So she is extremely boring, lazy, and not exactly intelligent, but she is an overall nice lady. You don't really have to go to class, and the tests aren't too difficult. 2 quizzes, 1 research paper, a midterm, and a final.
Kind of a waste since you don't really have to go to the class except the 1st half of the term for the pop quizzes. Otherwise the study guides are all you need to follow. The paper criteria is super easy. She should stick to archeology though.
A fairlly easy cource two tests and a 7 page paper with random geogrophy quizes thrown randomlly throughout. She is um um um um ahh um um ah um a poor um speaker. But she is pretty cool, it seems she has gotten a little more speady with her correcting.
says um a lot
very easy
Very boring lectures, doesn't know the material at all! She reads straight from a notebook practically all class long. It is unclear what she is expecting from you for the tests (lots of material covered)
She is a nice person, but a horrible professor. She basically reads her notes and is not a very good speaker. She takes forever to return anything, so you do not know what your grade is. Not a difficult course though, grades easy.
She is boring as hell, but if you want a good grade, it's not hard to do. Only 2 tests, 2 VERY easy quizzes, and a paper (which you get to pick your own topic on just about anything in the world) Don't have to go to class to get a good grade.
I was extremely impressed with the way this teacher took the entire world history and intertwined it all to make sense was extremely impressive. A lot of it might have been boring for some students but I was extremely fascinated. She was always willing
I was extremely impressed with the way this teacher took the entire world history and intertwined it all to make sense was extremely impressive. A lot of it might have been boring for some students but I was extremely fascinated. She was always willing
very educated in world history and i found the class interesting and very easy. there's only a midterm, a final, two map quizzes, and a research paper--very little homework.
Umm...well, there's not a whole lot to say about this lady. The class was not very hard, but it extremely boring. Very little homework though, still should go to most classes because of pop quizzes.
not the greatest public speaker, but very knowledgable in all topics, only one 5-7 page paper, 2 geography tests, and a few pop quizes here and there, fairly easy..
Sooo boring. I now know why they require education majors to take communications classes she uses wayyyy too many verbal pauses...(I counted about 100 um's and 78 uh's in the span of 35 minutes) she's not that hard, just a real snore. if you are taking her, bring your pillow and blanket to class.

this class was incredibly boring, she is a terrible speaker, and she tore my exam essays appart saying they were too vague when I completely answered all the questions. she doesn't even know the answers to her questions off hand and has to look them up or tells you to refer to the book or her notes
The WORST professor I have ever had (and I've been to three colleges.) She is really boring and teaches soley from power point. If you want a breeze of a class take her, but be prepared to be BORED!!!!!!!!!
I would rather slam my wang in a sliding glass door than take her class again!!!!!!!!!!!!111
she's a nice lady. her lectures are very boring though. i fell asleep every other lecture and pulled off an A. The material is straight forward, she's very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. it's easy and requires very little effort but it's probably the most boring class i've ever had
she is a nice person & shares some interesting stories, but not a good public speaker. She says 'uh' and 'umm' about every 5 secs. Most of the time i dont listen to a word she says and im still getting an A.She sends out study guides for the exams too so as long as you study the exams are pretty easy. This is good for an easy A but you will be bored!
Very easy! gives study guids that cover everything on the tests. Quite boring!! overall good easy class!
she is really boring but the class is sooo easy. there is a midterm and a final and a research paper that is a joke. she doesnt know what she is talking about all the time but whatever its history!
She is very uneducated. I'm acing this class without going because I went to high school. If you too went to high school, you will have no problem with this class. The only annoying thing is the pop quizes in order to make sure you go to class.
great lady!
I love this class. If you show up and take notes and you study what is on the study guide you will ace the tests. And if you show up to class and pay attention you will ace the pop quizzes. Overall she is a pretty good teacher.
She definitely knows her stuff. The class is so easy! Its pretty much high school history all over again. It is pretty boring though. She's not the best public speaker, but a good teacher if you want a good grade!
Boring class, but overall pretty easy... she gives you all of the information that is going to be on the exams
boring class, very clear as to what she expects
If you have this class I have thing to say - bring a pillow. She is a very nice teacher and all, but that class is really boring. It is pretty much 100 slides per day (which equals 3-4 pages of notes each day). There is only a few things to get graded on, so do the best as you can on each paper or test.
sometimes she has trouble sharing her thoughts but she is very knowledgeable and a very nice person easy A if u take notes and study a little
very interesting to listen to
Lectures straight from power point, easy A if you come to class and don't sleep.
Kooiman is very interested in art and architecture. I found the class pretty interesting, although she paused a lot, making it hard to pay attention sometimes. You don't really have to read much, just take really good notes!
boring boring boring class. but she is an easy A if you do all the work - show up to class, and study for the tests and no one should have a problem getting an A. tests suck because they are essay and short answer just make sure not to be vague in essay answers! (she takes off a lot of points!)
Easy A if you go to class (pop quizzes). Two geography quizzes that require a lot of memorization and regurgitation... Every class consists of copying her powerpoints into your notebook and trying not to bang your head against your desk every time she says, "And such". She seems nice though and grades papers leniently.
take kooiman! her topic for 102 was interesting compared to others (art & architecture). plus she makes history about as interesting as anybody can. she knows its just a gen ed so she tries to keep it simple and tells you what you do and dont need to know for her tests. the map tests at the begin. of the semester suck but the papers arent too bad.
TAKE THIS CLASS! It was soo easy. There are pop quizzes, but only in the second half of the semester and there on what she was talking about in class, 2 papers (one 2-3 pages...very easy, one 5-7 research on ANYTHING you want), 2 tests and 2 geography quizes. Super easy. An easy A
History is a boring subject but at least the teacher is eye candy. Yummy!
Take Kooiman, super helpful and wants you to know conceptual references in history, not dates and names. She tells you what you need to know and gives a study guide, USE IT! Also the online websites for her geography quiz makes it a lot easier!
This is a very easy class. You never use the book, you only take powerpoint notes. She is a easy grader. I really liked her until the last 2 weeks of class, for some reason she started getting crabby and started injecting her political opinion into lecture. Overall, a good choice a for general education class.
She was knowledgeable, professional, made things more interesting than just book learning. Listen carefully to what she says because there are nuggets there, that my classmates sometimes missed. Show up for class, take the quizzes, do the papers and midterm and final and it's a done deal! Wish I had her for other classes!
Kooiman is a great professor! She is very knowledgeable and passionate about what she does! All of the notes are on a powerpoint so you just have to copy them down. The class doesn't require very much work just 3 exams, 2 papers, and 5 quizzes.
Very easy class. Show up, take the notes and pay attention to her stories. Gives a study guide of EXACTLY whats on the midterm and final. Write 2 papers- easy if you follow the directions. TAKE HER!!!
east A for art appreciation, gives study guide before each exam so all you need to know is on there. Most of classes played on laptops and just studied the study guide before the tests, only can miss 3 class before she takes points off though
I got a B only because I misinterpreted the study guide. Everything on the quizzes came off of the study guide. Had to write some short paragraphs and a paper but nothing major. Actually an interesting class! Mostly like a mini-art history course.
She often had factual mistakes in her slides. The students don't get to do hands on artsy stuff, just learn about art and the history of it. Sort of a boring class, but the tests are easy and the papers are short. Good class to get other hw done in.
Go to lecture and mid-term and final are easy!
im not an artsy person so i actually enjoyed the lack of hands-on work. attendance is mandatory because she was not on D2L however i think she will be doing that starting next semester (spring 2010). she makes you attend several events outside of class in which you have to write on which was a little annoying sometimes. nice lady, easy class.
I'm pretty sure she made up a bunch of stuff. She tries to sound super informative, but she was wrong most of the time. Pretty easy class, but to get the grade you have to go to lecture. I would suggest her for an easy A.
Very nice lady. Lectures are a little borning but it is history so what can you expect. Gives out study guides for the tests and they are very helpful. Would definitely recommend her!
Lectures are long and fairly boring. She rambles a lot. Study guides weren't very helpful for tests. Overall not too bad. She's a really slow grader.
Although she is so boring, she knows what she's talking about. Almost the entire class was sleeping or on their laptops. I feel bad because she's such a nice lady.
VERY slow grader. Took 3 months to get back a two page paper. Never puts it on D2l, always says "still working on it". Classes are very boring, reads off slides, doesn't even know how to answer questions students ask. Study guides are 12-15 pages long. Grades fairly easy. Tests are fill in the blank and essay=HARD.
Very nice lady. History is boring no matter who teaches it, so its not her fault, thought every class is copying notes from a powerpoint, and that gets tedious. Also a very slow grader, but overall a nice instructor who wants you to learn. Recommended.
Easy but a really boring class. She seems to know what she's talking about but gives you so much information that you won't even need for the test. The entire class period consists of her talking and it starts to get really long/boring. Gives quizzes during class so you need to go in order to get the points. 2 papers, 2 tests, 10 quizzes. That's it
I'm fairly certain this is the easiest history class at UWL, or any college for that matter. If you show up, take the exams, and write the essays, you will get an A. She was a very nice woman, boring, but hey it's history. I definitely, definitely recommend her, you will never have an easier history class.
She can be extremely boring and will put you to sleep. her tests are not hard but she grades essays really strictly. I wouldn't reccomend taking her class.
READS OFF OF POWERPOINTS, she is the slowest grader, spends all her time blabbing about useless info, and her tests are all hard questions she spent a second on. shes nice and lenient but passes around a sign-in sheet to screw you for skipping. 1 2 page paper, 1 5-7 page paper, 2 tests, 10 quizzes
This class is beyond simple. She now makes her quizzes on D2L so it's way easier to get a hundred, even if you don't have the notes. Attendance is mandatory, but just email her and you'll be excused. Not the most interesting subject, but an easy gen-ed.
This class is extremely easy, two exams, D2L quizzes and two papers, she is very knowledgeable and I enjoy her lectures. She also makes study guides that outline exactly what you would be tested on.
She is very smart and loves teaching history. she is super slow at grading. she never got around to grading papers from the first month of the semester. the assigned essays are completely irrelevant to the class. She is nice, but i would not recommend her.
if you want to understand the world history take her. Easy A
Terrible teacher. First off she makes things up and contradicts the textbook quite often. Lectures are deathly boring, her class has no flow she just bounces around and talks about random things, and her tests are ridiculous. Not sure how she can expect anyone to possibly remember that much information. Definitely wouldn't recommend taking her.
She is very straightforward with what she wants. Take her for an easy A. For each exam we were given a study guide that said exactly what we need to know. You're able to choose any topic for your research paper. Can't skip class because she doesn't put notes on D2L. Barely every any work outside of class. She is a slow grader though. I'd recommend.
She is very helpful and very clear on what you need to know for the tests.
If you attend class, and take notes this class is an easy A. There is hardly any out of class work, a few quizzes that you can literally Google the answers to and two papers (one short essay, one research essay). If you do not attend class, Prof. K hates you and docks your grade a ton for it, even though attendance isn't necessary to get an A.
SUCH AN EASY CLASS. You have to try to not get an A. Just show up to class, there's no readings required. Only a couple assignments, a midterm, and a final. Be aware, the midterm and final are not multiple choice, but with a little studying you should be fine. There is also a quiz on all the countries of the world, but just study. It's not too bad.
She is a very good professor. She is extremely knowledgeable on the topic. Her lectures are very clear. The assignments are fair and clear. You should have no problem passing her class.
It is a fairly easy class. Only a midterm, final, and research paper. SLOW GRADER. She takes forever to get assignments back. One of the better options for a history class though because of easiness.
Definitely recommended because of how easy this course is. She lectures straight from a powerpoint, however they are not posted online so attendance is mandatory. Very slow grader, but a pretty easy grader too. Overall, I thought she was a good professor!
Take her if she is available. So easy and you actually learn some decently interesting things. Very straight forward and very little outside of class time needed. She understands it's a gen ed and you have other things going. Great overall lady and teacher.
I liked Kooiman. The lectures aren't the most interesting, but THIS IS THE EASIEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. You only have to do like 3 things for the entire semester, and you don't have to read. She specifically says not to read because you don't need to. Seriously, take her.
She seems really nice. Lecture isn't the most interesting, but you don't need to read anything. Just take notes from the power point. There are like 3 tests and 1 paper. I averaged like a 98%. You just need to pay attention in class.
Class was very straight-forward but she forgot about her D2L quizzes until the end of the semester so we got stuck taking one every class period til the final. Very SLOW GRADER. We found out our grade for the midterm a week before the final. Also told us she may have graded midterms harshly based on being in a bad mood at the time.
Do you want an A in her class? Bring your laptop, type everything from the slides in your notes. When tests come she will give you a study guide with everything on test, memorize the study guide from the notes you have. Boom. Easy A. And type the two papers on time and they're basically automatic A's as long as you type the required amount.
Extremely easy class, takes little effort to get an A. Only a few exams, 2 papers, and 10 D2L quizzes. However, extremely slow grader! Took over a month to get midterm scores back. Show up, copy down her powerpoint notes, and you will pass easily. Nice and understanding, but doesn't post notes online so attendance is mandatory to get the notes.
Its a really easy class with her. You have a mid term and a final exam thats it. You also have like 10 three question quizzes online that are so easy. There is also one long paper in the middle of the semester and a small one. She's an easy grader. The lectures are really boring. Just show up and take notes. You don't have to pay attention to her.
Lectures are extremely boring and time passes very slowly while she reads off of her slides. There is a research paper that is 5-6 pages that you cannot double space. It took her 6 weeks to grade our tests and even longer to grade our papers. I went into the final only having quiz grades entered in (which is automatic as quizzes are done online).
She is a wonderful professor! She gives you everything you need to know without reading the textbooks. The only few negatives things are: very slow grader and long lectures. I would recommend her to anyone! On two tests: midterm and final. Only two papers: 5-6 page and 1-2 page.
It's a really easy class. She's the slowest grader I've ever seen, but all you have to do is copy down notes off the Powerpoint and you're golden. Nothing surprising gets thrown at you and she's pretty straightforward. Easiest class of my semester. I would definitely recommend taking her if you don't mind not getting your grades in for awhile.
As long as you show up to class, take notes, and put some effort into studying for your three main exams, you'll do just fine. You will also receive two essays you will have to write. It's your typical class where you need to memorize 80 terms per test. Kooiman emphasizes everything you need to know. Pretty easy. Highly suggest to take.
She assigns two papers in the semester, one 5-8 pages and one 1 page. There are 10 three question quizzes through d2l that are super easy and 3 exams that are harder, but she gives you a very specific study guide. She takes a long time to grade things (like over a month) but she's an easy and fair grader. You need to show up to get the notes.
Lectures are long and boring but necessary to attend to get all the notes. She hasn't graded the 1 test, or the 2 papers and it's the second last week of the semester so you don't know if you're failing or not. Would be understandable if she didn't tell us that we were the only section of the only class she has all semester.
Very slow grader. Attendance is mandatory, you get notes from powerpoint slides that you can not get outside of class. 2 papers, 10 online quizzes, and 3 tests including the midterm, final, and geography test. Final was not cumulative. Overall very easy and would recommend. Show up to class and you will pass.
Lectures are kind of boring. She is very straightforward with what she wants though. 2 papers required, one long one short. Weekly online quizzes based off the lecture that are easy enough. Tells you what will be on the exams. For the exams make sure you have the essay questions down pat and you should be good. Would take again.
2 papers, 10 D2L quizzes, one country exam, a midterm, and a final. Don't expect to get grades back until literally the end of the semester. Very lecture heavy for whole 55 minutes of class. D2L quizzes are easy A's if you take the notes. Try to take a different professor if you want to know your grade throughout the semester.
Slowest grader I've ever seen. It's finals week and she still hasn't graded a two page paper from the beginning of October. If you take notes from the PowerPoints you'll be fine, and she takes attendance everyday. Tests are all short answer and essay and are graded tough. Not terrible, but wouldn't recommend.
The entire thing is powerpoint, basically all review. You'll ace quizzes if you take notes. EXTREMELY SLOW (kinda tough) GRADER. She only has 1 class & we've had 2 papers; 1 was only 2 pages & due in September. Tomorrow is the last day of the semester and we have yet to get either of them graded. I have no idea what my grade in this class even is.
Class is not difficult if you do your work and study for the three exams that you have. Only problem is that she does not get grades back in a reasonable amount of time, so you will not know exactly how you are sitting. Just study for tests, and do good on your papers, and she is not that tough of a grader.
Each class is a mega lecture, and you'll use up all 55 minutes. She's self aware that she's teaching a history class so she does make an effort to make it entertaining. I found her very funny. Takes FOREVER to grade stuff but her tests aren't particularly difficult and she gives you all semester to write two papers. Cool person, pretty easy class.
She makes you work for the grade. Which could be good or bad depending on your commitment to your own education. She is not a prof for slackers. She has a real passion for what she does and talks about.
She is very straight forward with the material. Her slides are all you need to pass. Lectures are boring but take notes and you'll be fine. Attendance is important, and expect to write papers. Exams are easy if you study, but I studied really hard and left confident, only to find out I got a C. So she's a really tough grader on tests and papers.
Figured since it is a 100 level course that it would be an easy A, wrong. Exams are brutal; all short answer and essays so if you don't study all the material you won't do well. Online quizzes are easy if you take notes. The lecture slides aren't available outside of class. Missing one class will put you very behind.
Ms Kooiman's lectures were knowledgable and provided all the information needed to pass, so just showing up and taking notes gets you through the course. There is a historical research paper, midterm, final, and 10-three question quizzes. However, expect to wait over a month for grades; ridiculously slow to the point of being unprofessional.
If you miss class, you will not pass. Everything in her lecture is on her exams. It takes forever to get stuff back and she is impersonal which is kind of a bummer. It is an easy A if you show up and study. Be aware of a geography exam in the beginning, you really gotta study for that.
The final for the class is tomorrow and I still don't have my midterm grade or the grade for the big research paper that we turned in around midterms time. She refuses to post the slides even though she grades attendance every day separately. Her tests are impossible, and without the slides you can only half study.
Every class is a full 55 min of lecture and she takes attendance everyday. The slowest grader ever. Final is tomorrow and I still have no idea where my grade stands. We took the midterm 2 months ago and have not gotten them back. Tests are easy if you put in effort to study. If you don't study, you won't pass.
She has very good and detailed slides, but if you are not there you will not get the material. She doesnt post them online so if you wanna look back at them you are out of luck. I just got my midterm and paper I did at midterm time and its after I took the final. I went in unclear what my grade is. Her tests are very difficult short answers.
Grading takes forever which was the most frustrating part of the class. We got our midterms handed back to us on the day of our finals. You don't have to do much for the class besides show up, take notes, and study a few days before your exam. I still don't have my grade and the semester ended three weeks ago, but other than that it's an easy class
Lectures get long, but shes passionate about what she teaches. She makes herself available to all students and is an easy grader, so getting an A is pretty easy.
Her tests are extremely meticulous and are all short answer. She is a passionate professor, however she has the tendency to explain subjects more than she needs to. This makes the class hard to follow and the subject matter difficult to make connections with.
Extremely slow grader. Assigns a 5pg research paper at the beginning of the semester that under no circumstances is allowed to be late, due at midterm and its the night before finals and its still not graded. It took 5 weeks to grade the midterms. All tests are short answer, and she doesnt give partial credit, if part of it is wrong all of it is
She lectures the whole time and there's easy 6-point quizzes that follow what we learn in class. Lectures are pretty boring but you need to go to them otherwise you won't get the information. Slow grader, keeps promising our test and papers will be done soon and comes up with excuses. She does her best to make the class more interesting than it is
Barbara Kooiman teaches a very easy subject and if you show up to class and follow the study guides you will be absolutely fine. WHAT I CANNOT STAND is her lack of ability to grade in a timely fashion. The midterm was given mid-October and it is finals and I haven't gotten the grade back yet. If you have any self-respect, avoid Barb.
The professor tries to make the subject interesting, but her teaching style doesnt really allow this. She lectures 100% of every single class, whichby and largeisnt conducive to class engagement. It would be irregular in class for me to see less than 3/4ths of the students using their phones and nodding off. Nice person, needs new methods.
Barbara is a wonderful lady. However, the first exam is at the beginning of October, and we have not received grades on that exam and it is now December. The lectures are boring and long, and she grades harshly.
Kooiman is honestly one of the worst professors I've had at UWL. Her lectures are so long and boring and consist of her reading off of powerpoint slides that she will not post on canvas. It is the night before our final and I still have not gotten my midterm back from her. She puts too much info on exams for how much we don't learn in class.
Every class is the same; she reads off of the powerpoint and you have to take notes as she reads it. It gets extremely long and boring, and she doesn't post anything online so you have to go to class to pass, and she takes attendance points away if you miss more than a few times. Takes FOREVER to grade.
Barbara is not a terrible professor despite what some people say. Yes she does take forever to get work back but all you have in total for the whole semester is 3 tests and a paper. The tests aren't that hard if you do the study guide. The lectures can get a little long but they are interesting to listen to at times.
Barbara Kooiman's teaching style is absolutely horrible. Reading off of powerpoints, and going into detail about stuff that is not really interesting, not related to the class or won't be on the test. Attendance is mandatory otherwise points are taken off. I absolutely dreaded coming to this class and I am so thankful that it is over with.
I had her as an online only teacher, we only went into class to take tests. Her lectures were great, very straight forward and she makes sure to tell you what to focus on. Provides study guides for exams, and sticks to the study guide throughout the test. Only one paper and you get over a month to work on it. Very helpful, answers emails.
I took this class in the spring of 2020. Professor Kooiman was a great professor. Although the lectures were long and sometimes boring, work was easy to manage. There are 3 tests total. First, a countries test, on all the countries in the world (she picks 100), a midterm, and a final. The last two exams are easy if you study the study guides.
Professor Kooiman was a pretty good professor but wasn't always on top of things. She often didn't post our weekly lectures (which she'd recorded the semester before) until partway through the week. About 3 hours of lectures and a quiz each week, a geography exam, midterm, and final. Overall, not too hard and was pretty clear what she expected.
She is the sweetest lady you will ever meet! She knows her stuff and is a relatively easy grader. Her lectures are very long and very boring and she doesn't post them anywhere so attendance is absolutely mandatory. She does three exams a geography exam, midterm, and final. Reading is not required at all.
History itself isn't super interesting, and the lectures aren't super interesting, I played cool math games a lot. but at the end of the day it's VERY easy to know what she wants on assignments and she tells you exactly what will be on tests. all it takes to get a really good grade is a little bit of effort
She just reads off her slides and doesn't seem to really know the material. Also, its a 110 course but she treats it like a 300
Kooiman is a relatively easy professor to take for required classes, and as long as you go to class, it will be a breeze. However, grading and receiving grades back will be SLOW. Its finals week and my mid-term is not even graded yet. Classes are all lectures, nothing more, which makes it to be easy but can be quite boring.
Her tests are all written with essays at the end, lectures are boring, too much work
This class was okay. The major downside of her teachings was there was no class interactions and it was straight lecture for the entire semester. I never talked to any of my classmates, and frankly I don't think anyone ever did. But the tests relate directly to the slideshows so if you take notes in class, you really don't have to listen to her.
Dr. Kooiman is a very understanding professor and very kind. However, everyday of class is the exact same. She lectures for the entire hour and a half. They get very boring, but I grinded a lot of retro bowl. There are three tests and a geography exam. She gives you a study guide which is exactly what is on the test, its just so much information.
This class is mainly just memorization, she lectures the material on slides, write it all down. No outside reading which was nice. The tests are exactly the information she gives in class.
Kooiman was super lecture heavy. You have to go to class - you can't get the notes from her or online. But everything she grades you on is super clear - there's only 3 exams: a geography exam, a midterm, and a final, 10 super easy quizzes based on lecture, a 2500 word paper and that's literally it. Stay on top of your work & this class is easy.
Ms. Kooiman is very knowledgable about her class topic. Her lectures can be interesting but get long as it's the whole class. You get graded off of 3 exams, a paper, and weekly quizzes. Do you work and show up to class and you'll be fine.
This class was pretty time consuming for a level 100 course. Every class is lectures of her reading off of slides, those slides are not posted so you need to attend class. Midterm and final where honestly brutal with 5 pgs of information to study but less than half on the actual exam. 200 country geography exam and 8 pg research paper & 10 quizzes
I found this class very interesting and I learned a lot. It is very lecture heavy and if you don't attend class, she tells you to get the notes from a classmate. There is only one paper, easy quizzes, and a few big tests. She, however, grades very slow which is why I rated her a 4 instead of a 5.
