always willing to help. easy classes.
puts all notes online. dont need to come to class.
She is a very picky grader! Puts all notes on web though =)
Class is very boring. Labs required.

learned a lot. teacher is hot
Very entertaining, loved her class, very easy exams, right from the notes and book

come to class, get a 45 min nap, usually in David Lawrence-so really comfortable seats-just dont take a nap on test day and should get an A

i had barb for learning and motivation. she told some funny stories. really cool class.
VERY nice teacher, interesting lectures, easy exams.
Hard material, talks fast, VERY Nice instructor
Boring teaching style...good ol' lecture.
Really nice and fairly decent exams
Research Methods: Boring material but makes it partly fun, easy exams, funny stories.
Good person, good lecturer, multiple choice tests, but make sure you read the material. Gotta love the 4 F's!! FYI: She is afraid of Big Macs too :P
no matter what class she makes it an easy A. also very nice if you have a bad TA tell her and shell fix the problem
Very easy class, classes can be boring. She's also very friendly, especially if you approach her after class
I really like her. She makes the class fun. Also, the info in the test is nothing extremely complicated.
Dr. K. is very easy and the class is interesting. She is also funny, nice, and very helpful...take her, she's the best!
Great teacher. So nice!! I found the tests to be rather easy but she made sure you knew the material. There is some homework, but it was easy to understand and do.
Her tests are fair, and predominantly multiple choice. She is very organized, speaks clearly, and tends to fill the period with many colorful examples (some of which are personal). I would recommend that others take her courses.
Very good teacher. I knew nothing about bio and I did well in this course. She's great at explaining and it's easy to take notes during her lectures. Definately not a blow off class, but not too difficult either. Easy homework as long as you're detailed.
Tries to keep lectures interesting, uses great examples, tons of office hours and always willing to help you out. Exams are pretty easy if you come to class and study. Don't really have to read the book.
material is hard but she teaches well
She's the best instructor I ever took. Respects all her students.
Her lectures are clear, but boring. She's available for help, but can be cocky in answering questions. Stops class to yell at individuals, pointless. Also wants really specific answers for short answer.Class isn't difficult, but definitely not a fan of her
Not a bad teacher. The classes are pretty dull, but she drops your lowest grade and gives lots of extra credit.
Soooooooo Boring, but ridiculously easy. I only went to class once between the 2nd and 3rd exam and got a 100 on it. She has a good curving method. All you need to do is d/l the notes off courseweba and study and the class is an easy A.
She kept the class interesting and was an easy grader offering tons of extra credit. You can tell she loves what she does.
Boring teacher, but then again, boring subject. Tries to add humor, but it's dry. Pretty much just goes over notes. You could get away with not going, just print off the notes from course-web. You know the material, you will pass. Better than Wheeler!
super boring class, makes you reconsider being a psych major after all
Most boring professor I've had this year... Dry lectures, barely audible.
Most boring professor ever. But the class is incredibly easy if you study the notes from courseweb. Also she doesnt like to use the microphone even in that huge auditorium.
i have no idea how anyone could consider this woman a good professor. she was disgustingly boring and totally incapable. she fell off a porch for christ's sake. i admit i didn't really go to class, but when i did i couldn't even hear her. she was terrible and i would not recomend her to anyone.
Grades unfairly. Writes exam questions which require short answers on RANDOM undiscussed topics & marks correct answers WRONG. U have to stay on top of her. Lines of students @ office to dispute grading. DO NOT TAKE HER! UNORGANIZED!I got an A- in this class & shouldve been an A & worked VERY HARD!
Hard class for non-psych/non-science majors, who need it for a gen ed. She was horribly unclear, sped through the toughest material to spend time on ridiculous anecdotes which did not help us learn. Tests had mistakes which ended up costing us points(i.e. on matching sections). TERRIBLE, UNFAIR PROF
I would rather rip my limbs from my sockets and send them to class to take notes from me than sit through another one of her awful lectures. So boring that suicide enters the mind about 10 mins in, just to escape lecture. The tests are completion and you have to know the **** out of the material t
Very boring and there's only three tests that count for your grade.
Great teacher
Not only is this professor a very good teacher, you learn a lot if you do the work, she is very available and responsive, and extremely helpful is you take the time to ask. Very very sweet women, also.
I hate her, and her examples are terrible. And when she stops class because someone is talking, its more distracting and frustrating than the person talking.

She pisses me off. She's very misleading and tries to trick you on tests. The tests are easy if you fill in the gaps in her teaching. Class can be a waste of time with her pointless, boring examples and her stopping a class of 200 to reprimand 2 people whispering. Her class makes me angry!
Excellent professor; extremely clear and organized. Very friendly and approachable. Exams straight-forward.

Barb drags the class on for the full 1hr15min with stories and molasses-paced learning. If I could do it again, I'd either go to class and not buy the book, or sleep in and just fill out her outlines myself with the book. Her tests hardly change from one year to the next, so get your paws on some of those and you should ace the class.

very boring i have fallen asleep and hard to pay attenition. She is ignorant as heck
Extremely boring lectures, makes you do in class work when there's about 100 people there... does not prepare you for exams/quizzes. Very annoying. Don't take her class unless you have no other choice.
I absolutely cannot stay conscious in her class, and when I do, I learn absolutely nothing. I really wish I had opted for cognitive psych or something.
Really boring, makes you want to leave early regardless of missing notes, tests way too complex for amount of material covered in class. And- just a warning: do not talk at all while she's talking....she freaks out
I just had her for L&M and the class was very difficult and boring. I studied very hard and went to office hours, I still got a C on both exams. Plus, Sniffy sucks. I would avoid this class. I liked her for Biopsy though!
Great lectures with interesting and easily understood examples. Exams were easy.
ive had her for learning and motivation, biopsych, and research methods. by far my favorite prof. the classes arent nessicarily easy, but if you study and go to class youll be fine: )
Boring sucks and going to class is only usefull while taking a test.
She teaches COLLEGE courses. She teaches COLLEGE students. People who think she is tough aren't expecting to actually do work - she is a very manageable teacher.
I love her. She explained a boring topic as well as possible in my opinion. I would definitely recommend her.
Hardest tests ever... She is the type that uses all five options from A thru E and with that there is two to three good answers.. you need to pick the best one even though two of them are correct. If you question her on it, you will loose. The lab part... EASY... Use it to your advantage. Take the A, you will need it to boost your grade.
I have had her for both biopsych and L&M, she is a good teacher, but tests are not "easy". If you study you will be fine, and the lab definitely helps boost your grade. Go to her office hours if you need help, she likes motivated students.
I had her for intro psych and research methods, and i really like her. Very thorough and helpful and approachable outside of the classroom. i recommend her!
Very Very Very boring. Gives a lot of information. A rediculous amount of information. BUt, the good thing is, is that if you take good notes, you will ace the tests. And the experimetrix is a huge advantage they are extremely easy. The course is easy, but the she is a bad teacher. All she does is stand up there and talk. Makes you want to sleep!!!
The lecture portion of the class can be pretty dry, and Dr. Kucinski has a tendency to be repetitious. The answers she wants for her tests are pretty specific, and there is little room for deviation. Make sure to read the book and attend class. Other than this, it's obvious she knows her stuff and is genuinely interested in the area.
Very easy class and teacher. Her tests come straight from her lecture notes. She often uses the exact examples from class in test questions. Lectures aren't the most stimulating, but going to them will definitely pay off when you take the test. I highly recommend her!
She is very nice and a good prof. the material of this class is boring itself but she gives good examples in her lectures. There are two tests and a few quizzes. She gives bonus excercises in class and is very accessible outside of class.
She's great! She is straight forward. Four exams. The last one is optional if you like your grade on the first three. No final exam. The exams are easy. Straightforward definitions and applications,
Very solid. Gives outlines, makes the lectures pretty clear. All exams are multiple choice, but relatively difficult as far as multiple choice goes. Nevertheless, very effective, though not particularly charismatic.
Had Barb for intro to psych. The class is torture if you hate psychology--especially since it's a mandatory class. It would be helpful to go to class and look through the chapters before tests. But never gives homework, and also gives four exams for the semester and drops the lowest of the four.
Gave a fair amount of Homework, only 3 tests. No extreme effort needed. If you needed to ask a question, sometimes it was difficult to get her attention during lecture. Sometimes the lectures were interesting and sometimes they weren't.
GO TO CLASS! If you go to class and take good notes you will ace every test. Shes a pretty good lecturer but does take a lot of time out to answer student's questions that don't really have anything to do with the lectures. She was always available for help. There was no homework and I opened the book twice.
Lectures are EXTREMELY dull. Granted, the material covered was uninteresting, but her presentation of it was mind numbing. I literally stopped going to class half way through the semester. Tests were tough but not impossible. I wouldn't recommend her unless you absolutely have to.
She gives good lectures, even though I have little interest in the material. Tests are REALLY easy, and if you miss an occasional class you can just read that section in the book and be fine. She also drops your lowest test score (of 4 tests).
This class is interesting. I like psych, the only thing is that Barb tends to focus on one topic forever which takes away from the rest of the stuff on the tests. You'll be okay if you miss class, just read the book or get the notes from a friend. If you put in the effort, you'll be fine. Also, get your experiments done early!
nice professor, approachable, lectures are boring but good at teaching if you can stay awake. take good notes and know the outline sheets she gives per chapter, you should get an A. 4 exams, all multiple choice, and drops the lowest one. no homework. have to participate in research but rather do that than homework. good prof for intro to psych
Barb is one of the main reasons I've decided to drop my psychology major. I was genuinely interested in taking this class, but she made it DULL and confusing. She doesn't use power points or put notes online and tests are extremely difficult. If it weren't for lab (easy), I would've had to withdrawal from the class. Don't buy the book. I HATE BARB.
(L&M) Barb is a nice lady, and a pretty good teacher, but she tends to ramble and go off on boring tangents so much that the 2 1/2 hour class is extremely difficult to last through. Tests are multiple choice but tricky. She lets you do EC sometimes in class, so it's good to attend. Lab is helpful to the grade. Book is necessary for quizzes.
She makes herself available when you need to talk with her and will do anything she can to help you understand. Outlines are put on the computer and you bring then to class and she fills in the necessary information. Reading the book is helpful but not necessary. She tells you everything you need for the test. Great Professor!
Had Dr. Kucinski for Learning and Motivation. Tests were difficult, but Dr. K is very helpful if you have questions. Lab helps your grade very much. Don't need to buy textbook - it's optional. Hardest part of the class - the class time: 2 1/2 hours on Monday nights.
If you go to every lecture you don't need to buy the book. Her explanations are really helpful but she's also pretty boring. Study all of your notes from class and you'll get an A. There are 4 multiple choice tests and she drops the lowest grade.
This Research Methods course made me reconsider why I wanted to be a Psychology major. Her lectures are condescending and not particularly informative. Tests are difficult. Do not submit yourself to this unless absolutely necessary.
I have Dr. Kucinski for 2 classes right now and I wouldn't recommend her. She isn't boring but her tests aren't fair. The questions are confusing: you walk in thinking you know the material and walk out feeling like you've learned nothing. I usually like my psych classes but I don't feel like I'm learning anything from her.
Went to class only for exams-got notes from friend. Studied the night before each exam and got an A. Recommend going to review sessions because previous exams are usually reviewed. No extra credit-grade comprised of 4 exams with lowest score dropped. Know notes, examples, and skim book. TA and undergrad TA were useless and unknowledgeable.
I used to be interested in Psych until I took her class. She spends 30 minutes on a definition of one word, which is pointless. The exams basically cover nothing she even mentioned. I love Psych in general, but find a different teacher to teach you it.
Barb is a great teacher, I've had her for 3 classes now and she's definitely one of the most helpful professors I've had. If the material during lecture is confusing, she makes it crystal clear if you visit her during office hours. Definitely recommended!
Intro to Psychology-- Take any other professor for this class. She's boring and her tests are difficult. I'm lucky that I got a B, but my friends who took other professors got A's because of easier tests and bonus assignments.
She rambles a lot, but she tells funny stories about trying to use classical conditioning on her husband. If you sit in the front and answer questions, she'll make it her mission to know your name. I love Barb!
Oh Barb. First, I'd rather jump into a pot of boiling lava before ever going to her lecture again. Second, her examples are ridiculous; she tells us her useless stories in her usual, arrogant manner. Know the book and every single one of her stumbled-through and sloppy notes. Also, be able to read her mind. Pretty much a blasty blast.
I was torn. She was OK, but the test questions tended to be somewhat random. If you missed class you risked missing an answer. Her TA didn't help, either, but I suppose that wasn't her fault. She certainly tried - points for that!
She often get caught up in her own examples/ stories but generally a good professor. The test questions can be a bit confusing but the lowest grade gets dropped anyway.
Dr. K. was the best professor I met in my freshman year. She knew how to teach. Her lectures were very organized and also clear. Go to her office hours! You'll feel free to ask any question and you'll master any concept. Her tests are not so easy. But since only few questions are from the book, if you review her lectures well, you'll get an A.
Dr. K's class can be summarized in a word: yawn. The lectures are horribly boring. She'll spend half the lecture time fielding one asinine question after another.. Her examples are ludicrous. On the plus side, memorize the terms on the lecture outlines and do good on the first three exams and you won't have to attend the last 1/4 of class!
I love her, the material can be difficult at times but she uses great examples and if you need help she's always available. She really cares and is up to date on all things, once you show her that u care about your grade she will do everything to help you out
AVOID HER at all costs. Her exams always have trick questions, which gets really annoying. You can know psych and still get questions wrong. The only suggestion I have is to find old exams of hers and review them, since some of the questions overlap.
Dr. K has hard exams and sometimes questions aren't very clear, but she gives essay questions so you can save your grade if you explain things well and you study. Lab is terrible and way to much work for only 1 credit. But out of all the research professors, I think Dr. K is the best and most helpful. She really wants you to do well.
This class is one of those that you get an A in if you memorize all of your notes, and remember the terms in the book. The unfortunate thing is she doesn't change her tests. You will need to study, but there are people who get ahold of her tests, never show up, and get an A+. Do yourself a favor, and switch out of this class immediately.
Nice lady... very helpful if you miss class or need clarification. I found going to class helpful, but that certainly depends on the student. The tests are both straight forward and tricky at the same time- she tells you what will be on the text (very accurately) but know EVERYTHING of what she tells you... some questions are tricky.
A boring class, in a word. She would often spend too long on one idea, so that some topics were never discussed in lecture. We were still asked to know these things for the test by reading the textbook. Like any professor, she can't answer every question, but she responds to this situation as if the question is unimportant. Switch professors.
helpful, nice. can say quite a lot in a small amount of time though, so maybe plan how you take notes [accordingly]
Barb's lectures aren't that bad and she's a nice lady, but the tests for this class are pretty tricky. The test questions have more than one correct answer and she's pretty picky about it. Basically just memorize your notes. There are only two tests (30% each), four quizzes (2.5% each), and lab (30%). The lab is an easy A if you do the work.
cares about her students, wants them to do well, office is always open if have questions, tells you exactly what she wants you to know for exams, important to go to class and take good notes, take her class!
I took intro to pysch and i don't think a gened should be this hard. I did everything right, and still got Bs on all the tests. I took this as a junior and had trouble. She talks down to students as if everyone is a freshman, and is very condescending sometimes. Take her as a freshman only.
Barb can be described in one word: boring. Her lectures were incredibly boring as she would rarely use powerpoint or any visual aides. You get to drop one of the four exams, all of which are very easy as long as you read the book.
Lecture is worthless. My exam grades went up when I stopped going to class and I did my best on the last exam after not attending a single lecture. Take any other professor if at all possible.
I had her for intro to psych. I stopped going to class and did just as good by reading the book as i did trying to pay attention in class.
Relatively good professor. You don't really need to go to lecture, but i almost always did. Can be scatterbrained and get mixed up from time to time. The book was a pain, the chapters were sooo long and she'd always throw in a few questions that were only based off the reading. But really, you could probably get an A just using the powerpoint
She was one of my favorite professors. Her lectures, though at times a bit dry, were extremly well explained with great examples. Lots of notes required. .
This was my first Psych class and I loved it. She was a great professor and had lots of great examples, utilizing good mixture of outside information with textbook. Tests were hard but her TA, Destiny, helped as much as possible. Read and you should do good in the class. Pay attention to detail.
Terrible teacher. Tests are terrible. Very rude and does not answer student questions. STAY AWAY OR YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!
Terrible teacher. Lectures are alright, no powerpoint used so it can get confusing. Her tests are hard. You can study as much as you can for a test and still fail. STAY AWAY
She sucks as a professor, if you like to read the book and not go to class, shes the teacher to take, drops ur lowest test but all 4 are hard. she is rude and hard to understand. her outline is online and sometimes powerpoint, so if ur stuck with her, read the book and take ur own notes, compare yours to hers and show up on test day
She sucks as a professor, if you like to read the book and not go to class, shes the teacher to take, drops ur lowest test but all 4 are hard. she is rude and hard to understand. her outline is online and sometimes powerpoint, so if ur stuck with her, read the book and take ur own notes, compare yours to hers and show up on test day
She's a pretty good professor. Helpful if you go to office hours. She does call people out when they get up and leave in the middle of lecture. She reads off the outlines she posts on courseweb so it's definitely a lecture based class. Exams are pretty difficult if you don't know the material. Definitely a class you have to study for.
I had her for research methods. She was the most boring professor I've ever had, she goes off topic and drags on for years about pointless things that aren't even on the test. Reading the book is a must if you want to do well on tests, as well as memorizing lectures. She tests on memorizing what she says rather than concepts of psychology. Useless
Good teacher, sometimes goes off on tangents.. but class is pretty interesting. You need to at least look over the book for the exams which are really easy (and you can drop your lowest score!).
I reccomend taking a laptop to class to take notes so you can keep up with her fast-paced lectures. You take 4 exams, one is dropped. There is no final (big plus). Attend class and pay attention and an A is attainable. Do not get up in the middle of class and leave or she will call you out.. it is quite humerous. Her stories are enjoyable.
She's ok. She was definitely nice, and she knew the material very well. Not the biggest fan of the material myself though. Pretty lame class in general. Easy for a 4 credit class though. Lab is only 2 hours, and it rarely takes that long. Easy 100% in lab too. Only 2 hard assignments. Just review notes for exams and supplement with some reading.
Speed up Sniffy prgm to save time in lab which is easy. Lecture was death! Two and a half hrs of Barb rambling + 100 deg classroom in Cathedral did not make for a great learning environment. The book was useless. Some questions on the exams were straightforward and others were tricky. I wouldn't recommend her at all!
My only complaint is that she takes the time to answer every raised hand - in a 200-person lecture hall. Thus, much of the material on the lecture outline wasn't gone over and had to be researched in the text. Otherwise, she presented the material very concisely. Her exams are difficult; go to lecture/ reference the text for what wasn't covered.
Lectures were interesting. Four non-cumulative exams, lowest score dropped. Exams were easy if you take notes (I recommend on a laptop because she talks pretty fast) and use the outlines she gives to look over in the book any topics not covered in class. Very helpful in explaining things if you did not understand something, lots of office hours.
Definitely one of the easiest professors I've ever had. Her test material is purely from the lectures, and the questions are extremely straightforward. This class requires no independent thought or deep analysis. Just attend every lecture, study the notes the night before the exam, and you'll get an A... that's all that I did.
I found her pretty difficult. I got away with a B and that was about average. She gives four tests and drops the worst grade, I got 100 percent on the last one so I would recommend taking it. I barely got a B though even with the 100 percent. If you want an A, you should definitely go to class although you can still get away with a B if you don't
Barb (I'm sure if you called her that, she'd give you her infamous death stare) is a good professor. She's knowledgeable, explains concepts clearly, and has plenty of office hours. Biopsych is not a blow-off course though and will be a little more challenging if you haven't had any previous bio experience. Take advantage of the extra credit!
Dr. K is the greatest professor I had while at Pitt. She comes off as a bit harsh in lecture, and she's definitely not one to mess around with. But if you get to know her, she'll be one of the greatest mentors you ever have. Amazing woman with a ton of dedication to students and her field. Take her class. Seriously.
This woman is awful. I tried harder to get a good grade in her class than any other class I've taken. I did the extra credit, sat through every useless rant of a lecture she made, and she still refused to raise my 79.5% to a B-. She's just an awful teacher.
Her class is somewhat easy but her lectures are a bit dull. The test questions are straight from the book and lectures.
In my opinion, Barb is a very decent teacher. She keeps things interesting with little demos during class that make the huge Intro lecture feel less stressful. Her tests questions are right from the book and her slides are put online but going to lecture was important for me at least to help further explain difficult concepts.
Barb is a very difficult professor, and although i managed to do better as the semester went on she still refused to bump my 79 up to a B- . Tests are very hard. You definitely need to study the book very closely.
Barb is very intelligent and knows her stuff. Lectures are not mandatory, but she likes to ask 1-2 questions about lecture-specific stuff on the tes. Gives you a study guide of all things you need to familiarize yourself with. READ THE CHAPTERS. It's not required but it has helped me a lot. Tests are multiple choice and fair. Take her.
Her lectures are pretty boring but she knows a lot about the topic. Her outlines are extremely helpful for what to study, but the exams were much harder than I expected. I studied a lot and knew the material well, but some questions were worded terribly. Not hard to get a decent grade, but definitely not a guaranteed A. I would still recommend her.
Decent. Lectures are boring but with 500 students they are bound to be. Some cool demonstrations but mostly stuff strait from the book. Tests are very easy as long as you READ THE BOOK AT LEAST ONCE.
She's really personable. Lectures aren't that necessary. Just make sure you read each chapter she'd cover. Tests are relatively easy, and topic outlines are helpful in studying for them. Just read the chapters and learn the words on the sheet and you'll be fine. You have to take 4 tests, but drop the lowest score. A cumulative final is optional.
I hated every minute of class with her. I am not a science person and I found myself not able to focus during her lectures which were boring and painful. I was surprised by the obscure information on each test because a lot of info comes from the book which you have to teach yourself. Don't take her if science isn't really your thing.
Lectures are completely pointless. You just need to read the textbook and know all the keyterms.
Intro to psych. going to lectures is pointless. buy the textbook, read it, and know the key terms that she puts on the outlines. you should be fine.
Her lectures were extremely boring. It's not mandatory to attend her lectures but if you're not a science person/ psych major, it would be helpful to attend her lectures to better understand the material you will later be tested on. Overall, okay professor.
Nice professor. The majority of the concepts she teaches are clearly explained and she uses good examples to clarify them well. Study the lecture syllabi she posts online since everything that's on those are fair game for the exams even if she doesn't go over everything that's listed on them in class. Concepts aren't tough to grasp though.
The tests were harder than expected for an intro class. She treated my lecture hall like a high school class and would just stop in the middle of talking and tell us she would wait until we were done talking. Nonetheless, if you are interested in psych at all, take it.
Great Prof! Must take good notes in class and write down details that she says. Gives out review sheet and as long as you know the ideas on the review sheet the tests will be easy. Gives out an easy extra credit assignment for each chapter so make sure to do it. MUST TAKE HER!! she is always willing to help and makes the class is interesting.
Even though it's a large lecture, she takes attendance and hands out in-class activities, so make sure you go to lecture. Lectures can be a little boring, but pay attention and take detailed notes because exams can be tough (but fair). Her tests are largely from notes, book isn't really necessary. Very helpful and available to students.
This was the worst class I have ever taken. It was so boring. Coupled with Research Methods, I now hate psychology. The exams were impossible. So much information was given in each lecture. Too much information to process. The lab was the only decent part. It was super easy and my TA was awesome. I would never take one of her classes again.
Horrible. Possibly the worst class I have ever taken. I took this class to fulfill the lab requirement for a psychology major. She gives too much information in lecture and her examples consist of stories in which she rambles on and on. After taking her class, I have come to hate psychology and switched my major.
I didn't particularly care for the class, especially because it was a huge lecture. However, Professor Kucinski is extremely helpful and sweet if you see her during office hours. During lecture she may ramble and post way too many slides though. Read and re-read your book over and over in hopes of doing well.
Great class for a large lecture class. Instructor was very helpful in office hours
You can do well in her classes if you talk to TAs and do outside work, but she is not a good professor. She's condescending, dull, and it's hard to take notes because she talks continuously with no visuals. I would not recommend her.
Dr. K is one of my favorite professors here at Pitt. She is passionate about what she teaches, and it shows. Had her for the third time for History and Systems of Psych. Learned a lot and especially enjoyed the discussion-based format. Wish she would teach more upper-level courses.
The lab portion of this class is fine, it is the classroom portion that is very dull. She does not use powerpoint so it is very easy to stop paying attention. Her tests require a good amount of studying if you want to recieve a B. She is a tough grader and will not budge if you think you may deserve a point back. She is nice and easy to contact.

Very clear. It is very easy to listen to her and take notes. She is very nice and helpful. Tests are not very hard, she gives great outlines. Highly recommend her for any class.
the lab is the only thing that even makes this class okay. it saves everyone's grades because her lectures are so boring and no one can pay attention and she doesn't use power points. she even told us she didn't like to teach this class on the first day
Doesn't use powerpoints but puts outlines online prior to class. Very nice and very approachable. Multiple choice, non-cumulative exams and four quizzes that keep you studying so the exams aren't difficult.
I took Biopsych during the spring 2013 semester in a small setting. Barbara is a great professor who is knowledgeable & passionate about the topic. She's very helpful if you make the effort to go to her office hours. I'd recommend keeping up with the readings and finishing her "lecture outlines" by filling in the details to help prepare for test.
Dr. Kucinski has no grasp on how to talk to students. While the class itself isn't terribly hard, she spoke to me condescendingly whenever I had a question, and made me feel like an idiot. Her class is dreadfully boring and she speaks so slow that what should take a half hour to cover instead takes almost three hours.
Lectures were not mandatory but attending them and taking good notes helped me, to a large degree with doing well on the exams. Dr. Kucinski does a good job covering all needed material in lecture, which some people may see as "dull," but she does her best given the inherent nature of the course. She also provides a study guide for each exam.
Although Dr. K's classes can be difficult. She is very organized and open to answering any questions her students may have. She gives you numerous opportunities to bring up your grade and is always available to help you in office hours. Some people don't like her, but I think she's great.
Extremely easy. She offers extra credit that can increase your grade up to 3% and the tests aren't that hard as long as you study some the night before. Overall interesting subject matter and super easy. I'm a lib arts major and I got over 100% with very little studying; someone from a neuro or bio background could probably get an A in their sleep.
You can just tell shes loves what she does and she is very helpful. However If you are not good at taking note I would recommend not taking her because she just lectures. Test aren't horrible but you must study.
Class is fortunately very easy. 3 tests (1 final) each worth 20% and a lab section (very easy) worth 40%. 2% extra credit easily available if ya just show up. Use her lecture notes and you are golden; book is worthless. She is rather condescending and boring, but the class is not too difficult
I do not think the book is essential. Must go to class coz what she lectures might not be in the book. very helpful during office hours. exams are not hard as long as you studied. But effort is needed to do well.
Class is very interesting and she clearly knows her stuff. She gives extra credit opportunities to help your grade and has office hours all week. Attendance is essential since she will go over things not in the textbook.. But honestly if you go to class then the textbook is not needed. Tests are easy if you study and I definitely recommend her
I took her for two classes because I thought I could handle having her again. I was wrong. Had her for a 2.5 hour night class, thought I was going to die sitting through her lectures. Rambles on for hours about something you could teach in 20 minutes. Tests are very confusing and weirdly worded.
I really enjoyed her lectures. The material is interesting and she is very clear with what she's saying. She doesn't post power points online so be ready to take a lot of notes during class. Her tests are very fair. Reading through your notes a couple nights before the test will be enough to get you an A.
This is not a hard class but her lectures are so incredibly long-winded and boring. Plus she treats her students like children and I find that very irritating. Not very clear in her discussions. Tests are fine, need to attend most lectures to get an A
I really enjoyed this class. Attendance is not mandatory but if you want an A, you should attend every lecture. She does not post things online so take many notes during class. I would recommend her the only issue is that at times she treats her students like children which can be frustrating.
Love Kucinski! I took biopsych with her, and it's clear how passionate she is about what she's teaching. She's a bit confusing as a lecturer- though she tries to keep lectures organized, she tends to jump around when she speaks- but if you take good notes and organize them in a way in which you can learn the information, you'll be golden.
She looks like Mrs. Clause so you expect that she will be as nice as your grandma. But she's not. The tests are difficult. Your Lab Grade will be big boost but you need to attend every lecture and take quality notes. If you leave out even the smallest detail on a short answer she takes a lot of points off.
It's an easy class, but she drags on and on in her lectures--she takes 45 minutes to explain what could be said in 3. Tests are hard because she is a ridiculous grader... use a word she doesn't like on the short answer and she will give you a zero for the question. However, she is easily accessible and easy to talk to.
1. When I told her I was expecting A+ in lab, she politely said she expected me to perform as badly as in lecture (C) that she taught. 2. She told us in class: when a professor in higher levels classes questioned her why her students didn't know the basics of research methods, she displayed their records and asked see how they did in my class?
Eh. She's not the best, I would avoid if there's a better professor available, even if you have to fiddle with your schedule. Her powerpoints are horribly disorganized. It'd be easier to learn from the book, but the book and her powerpoints don't match. Textbook isn't necessary.
Barbara Kucinski is by far one of my favorite psych professors at Pitt! I had her for both research methods and biopsych. It's clear how passionate she is about what she teaches! She is always available and very willing to help you with any question you might have! Don't skip lectures or you'll miss a ton! And read! Tests aren't hard if you study.
Lectures are very long and she often times rambles about information that never shows up on the exams. Puts her lectures slides online but most of the information is given in class. Can sometimes move too quickly and lose people trying to handwrite the notes.
This class isn't bad, but it's a lot more work than it needs to be. Gives 8 HW assignments (can drop your lowest) that require a significant amount of time to complete and are graded on a pass/fail basis. Lab can help boost your grade a lot. The three exams are detail oriented. Would recommend taking another professor for this class if possible.
Had Dr. K for research methods. She's very compassionate and open to helping students succeed no matter what. Research methods is a tough course, and it's a lot of work. However, her lectures are memorable and even though she takes a long time to explain a concept or two sometimes, the information sticks with you after the course. Would recommend
Barb is the best. I was initially concerned about taking the class because I had very little background in Bio, but she helped me so much outside of class that I did okay. I wish I could take the class again now having learned the basics. I feel like I didn't get to appreciate her lectures because I was too busy taking notes. She's a fast talker!
Nice lady, but the class is pretty ridiculous. The HW's are EXTREMELY long and painful, but graded on completion. The exams are VERY DIFFICULT and her PowerPoint slides do not prepare you well for them, let alone correspond to the material in the textbook. She offers 2% EC for in-class activites throughout the semester. Luckily lab is 40% of grade!
Dr. K. is very knowledgeable when it comes to biopsychology, but she isn't the best at delivering information to 100+ students who have no experience with the topic. She lectures VERY fast and throws a TON of info at you at once. The textbook is a good supplement to her lectures, but the content isn't always the same as what she presents in class.
Barb is the best professor I've ever had. Her biopsych class is tough but she's very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She's also very eager to help you out, if you go to see her she will love you forever. She gives out a lot of worksheets but they are all extra credit and help you understand the material.
Dr. K is by far the best professor I have ever had. Although her lectures can be dry sometimes she really cares about her students. The homework is graded on completion and she gives opportunities for extra credit. She is very eager to help you out and is very accessible even if you can't make it to her office hours. I highly recommend!
Dr. K is by far one of the most easily accessible professors I've ever had. She answers emails almost immediately and is willing to meet you at any time that works for you. Very clear in what she expects, homework is long but really helps prepare for the exams as they're almost exactly the same. As long as you do the work you'll do well.
There's only 4 tests (1 optional) that you get graded on, which sucks, but she does give a lot of extra credit (can earn up to 3%). The class can be pretty difficult but she does her best to make sure her students understand & is willing to answer questions. Attendance isn't mandatory but missing class does hurt b/c she covers a lot not on slides.
Lecture slides are terribly uninformative, get ready to write down everything she says or read the entire book. She's nice, but by no means a good professor.
She's great! If you don't understand something you can go to her office hours or make an appointment if they don't fit your schedule. She can explain things very well and turned a really hard class into something manageable!
Dr. Kucinski knows everything there is to know about biopsych and it shows in lecture. Her slides provide little to no information, so your notes are based solely on what she says in class. While she provides detailed info, it is often difficult to gather what parts are important. This makes studying for exams challenging, since so much is on them.
Lectures can be boring but that may be because I had her two and a half hours on Monday nights. She doesn't require the textbook and there's no attendance, but there is an in-class activity every class which becomes extra credit. The quizzes and tests can be a little difficult despite being multiple choice. She is very nice though
Had Barbara last fall for Intro to Biopsych, she was honestly a really good professor despite being a little unorganized. I recommend printing out the ppt slides and taking notes on those, and then copying the notes into a separate notebook outside of class to make sense of em & organize inf. Don't have to take final if do well enough on 3 midterms
Barbara is so sweet and so kind. She is so blatantly caring and works too hard. She will sit with you and go through question by question on the quizzes to make sure you understand. Highly recommend going over quizzes with her to ensure you do well on the test.
Dr. Kucinski is one of my favorite professors and people. She makes many resources available to students for extra help. My advice to anyone taking her is GO to class, even if you dont feel like it. If you go, things will make so much more sense and youre grade will reflect that. Also most of text questions come from homework!
Lectures were very boring, rambled on a lot, and were not useful. At the end of the semester I just stopped attending lecture because it was a genuine waste of time. The tests were not that bad, the homework was excessively long but not difficult.
Nice woman, but I physically could not go anymore halfway through the semester. Two and a half hours to get through 10-15 slides. She repeats the same thing for 20 minutes at a time, and yet I didn't learn anything. Tests and quizzes are incredibly confusing with bad wording, so it's almost impossible to do well even if you know the material.
Dr. K is by far an amazing professor! I had her every Monday night for 2.5 hours and lectures were fun and interesting with combined in-class activities for extra credit. Quizzes and exams make you apply concepts to everyday life so be sure to study ahead of time. Overall, she wants you to do well why is why she is so awesome as a professor!!!
Dr. K is really nice and truly cares about her students. Research methods, as a class, is kinda brutal, so the class is not too enjoyable. Her lectures can be long and dry, and not really necessary except for a chance to earn extra credit. The homework (9 assignments) is long and can be a lot. Exams are alright, just know the article/study well.
Dr. K is a solid choice for biopsych. Her exams are extremely fair especially if you pay attention in class and take good notes. She provides study guides which are extremely helpful for exams. Her office hours are also extremely beneficial for reviewing for the exam and she offers so many, she really wants her students to succeed.
in class exercises 20, hw 20, 3 exams60% of grade. Barbara is very repetitive in lecture & has a lot of information per lecture. Weekly hw(completion grade) reading research paper and answering questions(similar to test). She doesn't really teach you how to do this have to figure out urself. Tests are hard & grading is unclear(mc and short ans)
Lectures are very clear, she answers questions throughout and repeats important information. I did very well on the exams; I would recommend writing your own notecards for terms and studying those, as well as use of concept maps. Lectures are important to go to but not mandatory, you can find many terms in the slides or on google.
I previously took biopsych with Dr. Kucinski, and I'm so glad I chose to take her again for research methods. This can be a boring topic, but Dr. Kucinski did a great job at explaining everything. There are weekly homework assignments that take a decent amount of time to complete, but they're really helpful in preparing you for the exam.
The lecs are kind of dry so it's hard to pay attention. I didn't study for the midterm and it didn't go well. I rewatched all the lecs, retook notes, and made a study guide based on the outline provided for each module and it went very well. It's not a given A but you can definitely get one. She gives worksheets that can be done in class and Ex Cre
Great prof, had her for biopsych. Course structure is weekly open-note quizzes, 3 (non-cumulative) tests, and some additional homework/extra credit here and there. All of the information you need is presented in lecture. Very fair, straight-forward exams. Take good notes during lecture and you'll do well. Ignore the bad ratings, she's great.
Very sweet lady who seems very happy to teach biopsych. Lectures can sometimes be boring but the class overall is pretty interesting. An A is achievable but I wouldn't say it is easy. The class is very detail oriented and you do have to study a decent amount for the tests. She seems like she actually wants to see students succeed which is nice.
Your grade for social psych is mainly the 2 exams (midterm, final) a few quizzes, and then in-class assignments. She does give extra credit opportunities, so do them! Tests are all multiple choice and she does not let you review your quiz answers to prepare for exams. Lectures are long (2.5 hours) and get boring but she does give plenty of examples
Dr. K is so knowledgable on the topics she teaches, and the lectures are very engaging. The only bad part is she has little words on her slides, so you pretty much have to write down everything she says. Her tests are very specific and detailed, so you have to know everything. She is very nice, but it is a hard class.
She is clearly very knowledgable in the field, and the material is interesting occasionally, but she tends to rush through things and never finishes on time. We now have 2 quizzes, 1 assignment, and the final within the next 2 days. The quizzes are very easy, but I don't particularly want this much work during finals week.
I actually looked forward to Dr. K's lectures; they were super interesting and she does a good job to keep you engaged. The course content is difficult so you have to study a lot but she's always willing to help out and answer questions.
Dr. K is a good choice for a biopsych professor. She is very fair and really does care about her students and the subject. You definitely have to study for this class.
Barb is amazing. All of her tests are completely fair. Most are direct definitions from the list of vocab she gives you on the study guide. The material, however, is hard and there is a lot of it. TYPE YOUR NOTES. She goes SOOO fast during lecture and has almost nothing on her slides. I recommend this class and her. So so interesting.
Professor Kucinski is nice! talks very fast and has little on her slides so i recommend typing notes and going to lecture. Graded on 3 exams (+ optional final), weekly canvas quizzes, and a few hw assignments. Test are pretty difficult but I also didnt study much so its definitely possible to do well. Overall decent class, not great but not bad.
Lectures can be boring and the slides have minimal information on them. The exams are a bit more difficult than necessary. Overall, Dr. K is a nice person and not a terrible choice.
Dr K is a very sweet woman, but her lectures are extremely fast paced and difficult to keep up with notes. Biopsych was personally not for me, it was boring and I didn't like it. If you miss class, you won't pass b/c you'll already be behind. 10 quizzes, 3 exams, optional final, few assignments and extra credit. This class is difficult, be ready.
I really like Dr. K, but its incredibly hard to learn in this class. There is little info on the slides or anywhere else if you miss class and the tests are poorly worded. However, Dr. K is incredibly nice and very accessible outside of class.
I took biopsych and while it is challenging for a psych course, it is definitely manageable. As long as you attend lecture (must), take decent notes, attend office hours when necessary, and study in advance, you'll be fine. I think a lot of people expected this class to be easy since it's psych and are freaking out because it isn't a cakewalk lol.
I don't understand how multiple people got 100% on the exams in this class. This course wouldn't be this hard if we had a guided study guide that outlined what was going to be on the test. Did we get a study guide? Yes. In the end were they helpful? No. This course is unnecessarily challenging and hard for no reason at all.
Tough class with tons of material, but great knowledgable professor. Her exams are very fair and you will do well by attending her test prep sessions and taking detailed notes. The material is very interesting and Queen Barb makes classes fun! She is a very caring professor and wants her students to succeed. Definitely recommend 10/10 class :)
Dr. K is very nice and knowledgeable. Lectures are long and provide info that's not written anywhere else (not even on the slides), so if you want to pass you need to go to class and take good notes. A very traditional course structure: most of your grade is 2 exams - a bit stressful since your notes are all you have to study with.
This class is not for the weak, you will definitely need to put in the work. However, Dr K was so helpful and really wants her students to succeed. She is very reachable outside of class, gives lots of extra credit and posts videos of the lectures which was very helpful for me. Tests are tough but take good notes and study hard and you'll do fine.
Professor K is a phenomenal person. Her exams are primarily based on the information she goes over in class and the textbook is not needed. Her review sessions are very nice and the exams are fair. Lowest exam drop. She does give up to 2% extra credit so do them (they're easy). Very little homework. 10 weekly quizzes, lowest score dropped.
a few tests but they were applied psychology tests so it was very difficult. nice lady but only repeats herself when reading her slides.
Dr. K is very knowledgable and cares a lot about her student. Gives 2% to your final grade if you do all extra credit assignment. Weekly quizzes, and 3 exams plus optional final (you can drop the lowest score) You need to go to class because its very lecture based and a lot isn't on the slides. Very fair exams and she's the best!
Tests were very difficult and covered too much material to remember all of it. Weekly quizzes and a few assignments. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Not a bad class. There's one homework assignment a week that takes a while to do but just graded on effort. Lectures are boring but very good to go to; attendance and participation aren't graded. Exams are graded fairly and it's not that hard to do well in this class.
Dr. K is really nice but the class is super lecture heavy and there are no words on the slides so you can't miss class. There's little to no feedback on assignments so you can't review before the exam. Overall she's really nice and a good choice if this topic interests you, just prepare for a lot of work.
There is no information on the slides, so you can't miss class. She also doesn't give feedback on what you missed on assignments, making it hard to study. She is an incredibly tough grader, and the whole class is mostly based on 3 exams. She is nice but lectures are boring and hard to stay engaged, doesn't answer emails. Will not take again!!!!!
She is not easy to reach outside the classroom. Homework is graded by completion but no feedback. Lectures are dry and confusing sometimes cuz she is trying to make things sound more professional and complicated.
Dr. K is amazing! She is one of the kindest professors, and offers lots of help outside of the class. The class is a lot of info, and the book is not required, but super helpful. Extra credit is given. Lecture heavy and she does not record, so you need to attend class to follow along. LOVE HER .
Dr. K is a nice person, but she is an awful teacher for RM Lecture. I wish I never took her. She's a harsh grader and picky about wording, very secretive about exams, and keeps her TAs in the dark. The HW is like the exams but she doesn't give you feedback on it, so you don't learn for the exam. Extra credit is up to 2% on the overall grade.
Dr. Kucinski is a very dry lecturer. I would have learned better if she actually taught instead of reading off the slides. She's nice but doesn't really help you outside of class, she's super disorganized with communication and what she wants you to know for the exam. Research Methods is boring, but she made it worse. I did my taxes in this class.
This class was honestly brutal. I ended up feeling like I didn't learn much based on the format of the lectures and how they translated to the exams. There's only so much extra credit that will actually improve your grade. If you don't spend hours on end studying, you will most likely struggle and not perform well on exams.
BEST CLASS EVER. This class is so interesting and the work outside of class is very minimal. Dr. K really knows what she is taking about and you can tell she is passionate about it. Tests are very straightforward and fair. As long as you go to lecture and take good notes, you will do great in the class. Cannot recommend enough!!
She gives a lot of extra credit, and the homework is only graded by completion and not correctness which is nice. The lectures were painfully slow and boring, but honestly I would still recommend her because she is organized and thorough.
Good extra credit opportunities. Dr. K speaks quickly, but will repeat herself. Make sure to stay focused, write everything she says down, and study ahead of time
Hard gen ed. Have to study ahead of time for the exams and please go to lecture! I'm not a stem major and took this class for my sci gen ed, take another psych class instead!
Non-psych majors: very easy class, about 30 minutes of actual material will be covered a week. Psych majors: very hard class, would try and get a different professor.
Dr. K is a great teacher and really explains everything well. The material for Biopsych is pretty hard in itself that you need to study hard for exams. DO every other assignment and go to lectures. TAKE NOTES!
Dr. K is a very challenging professor, but you'll learn to get used to her format and like her personality. She tries to keep it interesting amongst biopsychology being a very difficult subject. It's not really "test heavy" but the 3-4 exams you have will be majority of your grade. Good for psych majors but not as a gen-ed, be prepared to study.
While this class is not the easiest (no matter which professor you get), Dr.K is the best professor for the job. I have had her now for 2 classes, this class, and Biopsychology, and she is by far my favorite professor here at Pitt. Dr.K is really good at explaining concepts and is very accessible out of class and holds very helpful review sessions.
I won't take it again if I don't have to. The lectures were very boring and it was hard to pay attention. She was a tough grader and took points off just because you forgot one letter in a word in an assignment, even though she could clearly understand what I was trying to say. Doesn't get back to emails either. But she taught the material great.
Okay... The material itself is interesting however she expects way too much on the exams. The quizzes and assignments are obtainable as long as you study but half of the class was failing each test and she never addressed it other than "there are help sessions" (they don't help). She's nice but blunt. Too much for an intro class. Never again.
I came into this class knowing I had to work super hard, so I didn't find myself hating the professor. However, if you come into this class thinking it will be easy, you're wrong. This is the kind of class that you need to study with other people, because the amount of detail she goes into on exams are insane. Go to class and study hard.
The exams are very lecture heavy, so make sure to take and study detailed notes. Dr. K expects a lot. The assignments/quizzes can be tricky if you do not get the content, so make sure to go to office hours or review your notes.
For this class, you need to go to office hours if you are struggling and she will be very helpful. She is aware that the class is difficult so she gives a chance of up to 2% added to your final grade which brought my grade up to an A in the end. She also does 2 review sessions the weekend before an exam. She's one of my favorite professors.
Dr K was a great biopsych prof. She gave a quiz every other week, three total exams, an optional final, extra credit, and regular assignments throughout the semester. Her TAs and UTAs were very helpful. She was hard to talk with during office hours since her office was small and often there was a line.
She was really cool and clearly passionate. Her lectures were usually pretty engaging! Exams are in-person, no notes allowed, heavily based on lectures, and make up most of your grade. You'll need to study.
If you go to class, take notes, and review them before the test you will get an A. It's not hard if you put in a little bit of effort. She is super accommodating and accessible out of class, so go to office hours if you are struggling.
Dr. K is an amazing lecturer and her classes are extremely engaging. Her tests are difficult but there are a lot of other assignments and extra credit to help. She is available for office hours and is extremely kind and helpful. She is very knowledgable and always there to answer questions.
Very difficult class. Teaching style can be challenging for people since lecture slides had 25% of the info we'd need, so to do well you NEED to go to class and pay attention since she goes off her own notes. The textbook is very helpful if you can't go to class. 3 hard exams (optional final) but many easy extra cred and assignments. Go to O.H.'s!!
Good lecturer, but you really have to pay attention and catch everything she says. The tests go into so much detail and are hard to study for. Quizzes and other assignments are kinda easy. I would definitely recommend joining a study group or having someone else to study with.
Good professor but very lecture-heavy. The TAs were very helpful and going to optional weekly reviews helped me digest the amount of information in every lecture as I was nonstop typing my notes. She talks fast and the slides have helpful diagrams but few bullet points. Good extra credit ops, graded mostly by exams, flashcards will save you!!
If you missed a lecture, you missed a whole lot and it is really hard to catch up. Almost of the info you need to know is only given to you verbally. The slide shows are kind of useless. Dr. K is very knowledgable and explains things thouroughlym though. The exams were difficult. I struggled in this class, but she had good resources for help.
Her work/exams are WAY too much. I ended with a C- in this course. I went to every single lecture, review, and some office hours. I now have to retake this course and I'm probably doing it in the summer unfortunately. She gave us 4 HW assignments that were due within a week right before finals. Also, my final grade was put in super last minute.
This class was super boring, but Dr. K did her best to add examples and case studies. She's not very accessible during office hours--there could be students waiting in line outside her classroom for an hour before she gets to them--but her pre-exam review sessions are really helpful. She provides extra credit and tests are not too difficult.
Challenging course, but Dr. K's engaging lectures and willingness to help make it worthwhile. Exams are tough, but extra credit and study resources like unstuckstudy AI can really boost your grade.
I took Dr. K for Biopsychology and absolutely loved it. She is an amazing lecturer and really helps you to be the best student you can be. I had to put a lot of work and effort into the class, but it paid off. You must go to every class you can and actually pay attention. Making friends and forming a study group is necessary. She is so caring!
"Please stay away from Barbara Kucinski!" Barbara Kucinski would easily win a contest for the worst lecturer ever. Her tests are impossible, designed to make sure no one passes. They're full of trick questions, obscure material she never covered, and seem intended to confuse rather than assess understanding. Avoid her at all costs.........
I took this class with the mindset I would I have to work extremely hard, so I didn't find myself hating this class. It is extremely lecture heavy so it's important torrid in advance and go to office hours. Prof Kucinski is genuinely kind, and she does want us to succeed so she does challenge us. Don't take if you are looking for an easy Gen Ed.
Research methods is a very boring class, yet Dr. K tries her best to keep things interesting. Her tests are doable if you study and pay attention and take notes in class. She is very knowledgeable and is always willing to help you succeed!
Dr. K has unreasonably difficult exams and is condescending when you go to her for help. Though she is knowledgeable in the subject she will argue for a long time before admitting she was wrong. The tests have articles that are difficult to print that you need to bring annotated or you will automatically fail the exam. Take it with someone else.
I genuinely learned a lot from her Research Methods class. It is worth noting that you will need to put in a decent amount of effort outside class. Her homework is lengthy but a great study tool for tests, which are manageable if you study. Time management is key, as tests fit the time limit exactly. Overall, the class is challenging yet rewarding.
I found her lectures very boring/dragged on, but the class is overall managable. You have to study, but I have found there are trick questions on the test so beware. There is weekly homework (time consuming), but fine. DEFINITELY make sure you review the homework before tests they are helpful! Take w/ someone else if you can but she's fine too
The attendance is not mandatory but there will be class exercises with points so you must go the lecture. The slides are given but only a few information, you have to be extremely careful what she's talking about and take notes. The hws are just completed or incompleted. But the tests are hard, take someone else.
Made PSY 0036 hard to learn and did not offer anything on her slides, so you MUST listen. Although I did have her in BIOPSYCH, and she seemed to teach better in that class so I do recommend that one if that's something you're interested in, but she's still challenging. Condensending woman. AVOID HER FOR PSY 0036, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!
Dr K. in this class specifically is horrible. Do not listen to the people who say "you just need to put in extra effort" "shes not that bad idk why ppl say that" those people are suck ups and most likely did bad in the class but crave validation from an older lady. Her tests were impossible even if you study and go to office hours.
Dr. K's lectures are fast, content-heavy, and exhausting. In my experience, you'll leave class overwhelmed and feel stupid if you interrupt to ask a question. Toughest multiple-choice exams I've ever had with no leniency to even use the restroom. HW is reasonable and some extra credit is available. She teaches this class like a neuroscience class.
The class is extremely lecture heavy and there is limited information on the slides as she lectures. If you miss something, you're kind of screwed. The slides she posts on Canvas are different from the ones she uses in class and have even less information. She is very specific with the content and attendance isn't mandatory, but you need to attend.
She is a very kind professor who cares about her students; however, the class is very hard. I took it as a gen-ed and struggled until the very end, even after going to office hours and getting help from the TAs. It is extremely lecture-heavy, and the exams are multiple choice but very tricky. Attendance isn't mandatory, but never skip a lecture.
Dr. K has a lot to say in each lecture, but her slides have little information. Even though she does not take attendance, you'll miss A LOT if you skip a class. The HWs were for completion, and there is some extra credit. The tests were written to confuse you and be very hard. Do not recommend cuz it's kinda boring, and don't take this as a gen ed!
Bad lecturer. If you don't go to class, you won't know anything because her slides have 0 relevant information on them. Everything that you need to know is verbally given to you. If you just show up to class, this course is a cake walk. I studied max a couple hours the night before each exam and got a 98, 100, and 90 and ended the class with a 99.
Dr. K is a nice, but she's an awful professor. She says attendance isnt mandatory, but if you miss a class, you'll miss all of the info and you'll get a zero for in-class assignments. I had the flu for a lecture and emailed her and she would not let me makeup the assignment. Her tests are impossible and are nothing like the slides. Don't take her.
I thought tests were very predictable using the study terms she gave, however she is not a kind woman. She is not understanding of anything, is a very meticulous grader, and attendance is very much mandatory and WILL affect your grade
unpopular opinion but i loved Dr. K. attendance isnt mandatory but if you miss class you will miss all of the information because her slides are almost all pictures. She made her lectures interesting so it made me want to go. the class is easy if you go to lecture and study for exams. I'm also pretty sure she curved the class at the end of the sem.
Drones. Her lectures could be cut in half but most of the time she goes on and on about minor details that won't even be on the tests.
Her lectures are incredibly boring and could be covered in half the time. Does not do any 'hands on' learning and everyone zones out or skips. She never uses her mic so you can't hear her. Also has a tendency to be rude to both students and TA's. Nicer one on one though.
Lectures are long and boringggggg. She reads off of slides but says a lot of information that isn't on the slides, so even though attendance isn't mandatory, you NEED to go. The exams are easy if you study. She gives a great study guide before each. She refuses to use a microphone, so you can barely hear her. Class is pretty easy though.
She isn't terrible but I think there's better psych prof opt. Her lectures are dense and she herself isn't very nice. I find myself teaching the curriculum to prepare for the exams because she never does in lectures. She assigns weekly quizzes (online), hw assignments, some EC. There are 4 exams, and she drops the lowest grade which is nice.
Not really her fault but it's so hard to learn in a lecture of hundreds of students when the only content is given through lectures or the textbook reading.
Super lecture heavy so even though attendance isn't mandatory, go to class. She made the material understandable and made good analogies for complex concepts. Requires a decent amount of studying but you can drop your lowest exam of the 4. Lots of extra credit opportunities and homework wasn't too bad. I found her office hours very helpful too.
hard class interesting subject GO TO THE OFFICE HOURS! the ta and doctor K are what saved my grades!!
Dr K's Psych 0010 class is very easy. Lectures offer good examples of concepts but she mostly reads off slides. Some information on exams only in the reading but most can get through lecture/slides. Gives out good study guides for exams. 4 exams you can drop the lowest one. Rest of grade is assignments and quizzes, both are easy.
really easy for an intro psych class. lectures are lots of talking off of the slides, and it does get quite boring, but she is a nice lady and its an easy grade booster for sure!
Dr. K was a great professor! She made topics understandable and interesting most of the times. On the few occasions that I was confused about something, I was able to access her or the TAs through office hours or help sessions. I finished with an A mainly because I did devote a good amount of time to study for the exams. Study and ask for help!
I really enjoyed this class and her lectures. There were online quizzes and hw for every unit which were pretty easy and the exams were pretty straightforward. Would def recommend!
Dr. Kucinski is a great professor, and the class is pretty easy as far as the learning material goes. However, I found that she was very slow to go through the slides and would do a lot of excessive talking. I also found her to be inconsistent when it came to posting the homework assignments, which messes up my schedule. She's very caring, though.
Only difficult because of the subject. She had very engaging lectures, and all her exams were multiple choice. Homework was very manageable (one assignment and an open not take-home quiz every week). You definitely need to study a lot for the exams, but if you put in the work, its pretty straightforward.
Would 100% take her again. This class was a breeze as long as you do the study guide that is provided to you before every 40 question exam. Take 4 exams before the final and you can skip the final + drop the lowest of the 4. Many easy homework assignments and extra credit assignments as well.
Her lectures are so boring. She is not a good presenter or speaker at all. Also, other psych professors allow you to select 2 answers on MCQs, and your second answer gets 1/2 credit or to retake tests. While she does give extra credit assignments, and it's not a hard class, there are better Psych 101 professors. She's not bad, just boring.
You get 3 exams throughout the semester, each worth 20%. The final is optional if you keep all 3 exam grades. There are take home quizzes (lowest dropped), homework (lowest dropped), and extra credit that can amount to a 2% increase. Her slides don't have much on them. Everything you need for exams comes from her mouth, so PAY ATTENTION. Study!!!!!
Dr.K hate is forced. Yes, her lectures can be quite boring and long sometimes... but the exams are SO EASY and there's TAKE HOME quizes, homeworks, and EC to help boost your grade SO SO MUCH!! She posts the lecture slides on Canvas and never tests you on anything from the textbooks. She is very passionate about psych and very approachable!
