unhelpful, condescending attitude
Enthusiastic to the extreme. Too difficult, but really interesting.
omg.. i've never been so lost
unorganized thoughts... unavailable... condecending... need i say more?

very helpful- she WANTS everyone to do well
Exam was kiiler
I never thought I could hate a class or a prof as much as her. It was TERRIBLE and I wanted to drop out of school!
i'd rather smack myself senseless repeatedly.. :S

Her genius and understanding of her field is outstanding. Unfortunately, her ability as a conveyor of knowledge is not. Her thoughts appear disorganized, overly complex and she fails to actually listen to a question before answering.
Do not listen to people who complain about her. She is kind and very nice. She will help you out with understanding material, and is a great prof!
Quite brilliant in her field of work, but must agree that her teaching style is complex to a mind-boggling point. Her midterm style corresponds to that complexity too, so Beware! Do not ask stupid questions. Ask good questions and she'll be quite nice.
Great Prof! Her lectures are well done, the course is fantastically organized and her testing is fair. People just get lazy because slides can be purchased and there is little reading so when it comes to test time they blame her for their lack of studying
she obviously knows her stuff but because of this she makes the course more complicated than it needs to be. will go off on tangents and into more details than required. will help if you ask good questions.
Great Prof. knows tons and wants to help students. both great classes. lots of work, but you learn a lot too.
Professor Moffat is a very nice person, but the course material is way to hard.
A great prof. A prof who is willing to hold 2+ hrs review sessions/week & three 2-hrs review sessions b4 exam. Course is tough in the sense that a lot of materials are introduced (w/ quite a bit of details) but you should do fine if you study for it.
Excellent prof that knows her stuff in depth and really wants the students to know too. Only problem is that the materials are all new and it's hard to catch everything in a lecture.
Very hard marker...but good with help sessions
Very fair marker. Tests practical applications, not just regurgitation. Very helpful when you go see her!
Great prof. Lectures were always interesting and clear. There is a lot of material which is also difficult. Dr. Moffatt has put much preparation into teaching the course and wants her students to do well.
She's awesome, great help and very nice... gets really excited easily
Don't take anything with this prof unless you get turned on by the concept of DNA. She's that hardcore.
crazy lady, but good prof
I really enjoyed this prof.. she was very helpful when i required assistance.. exams are fair... she seems like she really enjoys what she does.. she inspires you to do well
Great Prof, she's the Bissonnette of Biology!
Be sure to take this course DE. Its so useful and the CD ROM is so useful. Print of the notes and this class is pretty easy. Oh the final is a !@#$$%. Know all the major concepts.
Very knowlegeable prof and a fun lecturer. Not an easy course, but lectures keep your attention engaged. The course CD with lectures is very helpful, especially if you miss class or need to review a concept.
GREAT PROF.. hard course. very nice and helpful when you ask her questions. Sometimes funny too!
Best Prof EVER
a LOT of material to know, but when she tests, she merely brushes the surface. makes herself available outside class to help students. exam is fair but long.
Barb is an AWESOME prof that is really enthusiastic every class, and she will really try to involve the class in everything. She encourages questions so If there's something you don't understand you won't feel stupid for asking. It's challenging course, and she's the best prof for it!
an epic professor! Barb comes to class enthusiastic to teach, bent on rousing interest in all of her students (even the ones at the back), and seems willing to do whatever it takes to help everyone understand and do well. I'd say she's a female Dr. Globus AND Bissonnette!
Barb was awesome! I did not think that I would enjoy her class, but the enthusiasm she brought to each lecture was infectious. She was always willing to help outside of class. I strongly recommend taking any class that she is teaching.
I think this woman eats, sleeps and breathes molecular biology, I don't think she has a life outside her work, I bet she reads research articles in molecular for fun. Her tests are hard, its as if she wants to trick you and keep you guessing on her exams. Avoid her classes if you can!
She seems to know her stuff very well. I did this class DE, so I can't really comment on her as a person. She marks assignments very fairly adn her exams are probably the most straight forward you'll ever see.
A bit on the terse side when asked questions, seems somewhat annoyed even. Knows her stuff, but can be a bit harsh.
Can't ask for better than Barb. Her enthusiasm about the material is infectious. She understands the student and presents content in a very understandable way. In-class participation is highly encouraged and usually rewarding. Full marks.
Awsome Teacher!
Prof. Moffatt is an excellent prof. She makes lots of resources available to help you understand the material and I found the exam to be pretty fair.
Great prof and she loves what she does but its not always a good thing coz she expects everyone to be a molecular biologist by the end of the course and know it fluently. Hardest couse i ever took, Sooo far....
A good prof. The course was kinda hard but I don't think that's her fault. She was enthusiastic. She's really into molecular bio and knows her stuff. However, the midterm's application question was difficult. The final was much better! It wasnt hard at all. All you have to do is be willing to study. The course is split into 2 now, which is good.
wow a hard class. u need to memorize everything!
Course might seem easy but requires studying. Online quizzes a disaster but help you study. Awesome Textbook.
I took bio 330 and 435L with her. she really wnats her class to do well.. so if her midterm averageis low she will make the final very easy. Works really hard to make students understand the concepts. 435L was alot of fun with her compared to duncker whose exams are very hard . And dragana for bio 330 whose notes are all over the place ...
She seems like she really cares and wants her students to do well but her actions are the opposite -- she's very pushy and not very helpful with her explanations because she does not explain things at the level which students can understand. Her tests are difficult and quite irrelevant to the material focused on in class.

Fairly good prof. An engaging lecturer. Her notes are not very good and you have to go to class if you have a chance at understanding and doing well. The text is helpful. The material is pretty dry. The midterms were fairly difficult and tested in a way that made you feel like you didn't know the answer when you really did. Still she's pretty good.
WOW. Although I have got to admit that she's an awesome prof, I did not like her at all.
she's really really odd. says one thing and completely does the other. she's also pretty useless when it comes to helping students. goes through material very quickly and expects you to understand, if you don't understand, she makes you feel really stupid.
Dr. Moffatt is an amazing prof. although don´t expect any help if you just go to each tutorial with nothing done. She makes time for you if you need help after class, she answers your questions if she sees that you´ve tried to come up with an answer first and she has a fair exam. I loved this class and i would take it again with her if i could!
This prof. expects you to be able to apply concepts. Memorizing is of NO use!!!
Wonderful lady and an amazing lecturer. She is very interested in what she does and very hard working and is always there to help you out. She even goes out of her way to have extra tutorial sessions. The class is well structured but midterm/final can be quite tough if you do not go to class and fill in your notes. Would recommend taking 308 first!
Knows her stuff really well, but you wont be able to listen because you'll be copying down the notes every second in that lecture hall. So come to class to get a good grade from this course. Study the textbook to understand the concept if the lecture notes doesnt help. Know the material inside out and DO THE BONUS!! it helps
terrible class..most of the ppl failed! she goes thru things way 2 quickly, she makes ppl feel stupid, the TAs are completely useluss, hence the manditory tutorials are useless as well. u have 2 kno the complete procedures of about 15 lab techniques and know it backwards and forwards..trust me, if u need to take 208, take it wen she isnt the prof!
Expired Teacher
This is probably one of the hardest classes I've ever had. Attend every class and tutorial, make sure you read the text book carefully. The quizzes can be tricky, and the assignment is HARD. Must work hard for a good mark.
She is one of the MOST AMAZING professors I've ever had. Attending lecture and really participating will help you in the long run. She is willing to take time out of her busy schedule to help you and answers your question. If you do not get something she will try many different ways of explaining it to you. I recommend taking this course with her.
I can not begin to say how stressed I was in her class. She goes through things really fast and changes her slides so fast that you don't even have a chance to copy it down. Her notes are fill n the blank and there are not choices for full written notes for many students who can not listen and write simultaneously.
class dragged on and prof had a poor teaching style. TAs were incomprehensible and the tutorials were a mess. dr. moffatt clearly had interest in the material but her expectation of understanding it without a hands on lab component were completely unreasonable. the midterm and final questions were disconcertingly subjective.
Difficult class because the is so applied. If you have any skill at taking notes you will be fine. Shes goes out of her way to help, and if you ask she will clarify topics. The tutorial was a mess partly because of the TA's, group work and the prof. It is tough to understand without a lab component. Overall, nice prof, challenging class.
Amazing prof that really cares about her students and really wants to keep the class interested. Read the textbook and answer her questions in class. It really makes sense at the end when everything comes together. It's just understanding when to use which technique over another one. Would love to take another course with her.
Her teaching style was horrendous. Impossible for second years to understand her course. The people i recall doing well in her class were 4th years. Went and talked to her individually and she acted as if i had a learning disability.
The course is hard and it takes a lot of work. The good thing is Barb will go through the material very detailed and if you put forth an effort and come to class you can leave learning something new that can be applied to your research every day. I learned more in this one course then my first two years of university!
309 is a very tough course, but if you're able to apply molecular techniques and concepts, it shouldn't be too rough. Dr. Moffatt is incredibly experienced in her field and is very clear on her expectations in lectures. My only gripe is that she tends to come off as overly patronizing sometimes, and I'm not entirely sure that it's unintentional...
Barb is very kind and tries to be helpful. Seems to have scattered ideas at times about how to teach, and course notes don't always give enough information. Definitely helped to be in 3rd year for this course and I actually found it fairly straight forward. Definitely a great class to bs when in doubt she is really generous with marks
Good points: She is really engaging, friendly, goes out her way to help students and acknowledge them. Bad points: the lecture material is dry and notes are messy; often goes off tangent even when you write from her lectures. Midterm and exam was difficult. Learn from the textbook and APPLY IT. Do not memorize. Don't take the course lightly
This course is NOT meant for 2nd year students. If at all possible, take this course in 3rd or 4th year. Barb is extremely knowledgeable and experienced in her field and puts forth a great effort for her students. Tutorials have much improved and online lecture summaries are your best friend. Show up to ALL lectures. Hardest course I've ever taken.
She was very condescending and often patronized students for not knowing something that SHE considered common knowledge. Can be nice when in office hours or asking for help, but is still condescending. The tutorials are useless because she doesn't really teach you the material, and the tutorials are too big to actually get any useful help from TAs
I thinks she's amazing. She's a very entertaining lecturer and actually made me look forward to going to class. She makes you problem solve and it's good for you! You will get a lot out of her class.
She's definitely enthusiastic about the subject, but she tends to be very confusing when teaching or answering questions in lectures. Her notes are also a mess, and she jumps all over the place in her lectures. Also talks way too fast in class, there's basically no way to take down everything she says unless you're capable of 100+ wpm.
Best teacher that Ive ever had. She's VERY enthusiastic about the topic and teaching itself. It is not a hard course if you understand the techniques. However, her course notes are not structured well (I believe she will change it). Tutorials are pretty easy if you start them before the day of; TAs will be helping others in during TUT
I really enjoyed the course. It was a bit tough and there is a lot of methods, but if you just keep up and study the key points well, and understand the relationship between the reason behind each experiment you will ace it. With the extra credit at the beginning of the term, easy to do well! IMPORTANT: know WHY and WHEN experiments are used!
Barb explains the course material very well and wants us to learn. She's a really great prof and is really funny and just a cute lady. A real knee slapper. 10/10 recommend her as a prof, but her classes are very hard. 309 is probably the hardest class I've taken. She's eager to help, esp. if you have well-thought out questions, just like any prof.
Hands down probably the worst professor I have ever encountered. Don't get me wrong, she is a great person. However, she is a terrible, terrible professor. She is disorganized, messy, and has really high expectations. I was under the impression that an associate dean is meant to teach with excellence. I guess that's not the case with her.
Textbook? LOL it doesn't exist. She compiled "required readings" from random textbook pages. The course material is great and very useful but her quality of teaching could not be worse. She talks way too fast, expects you to write it all down, has inumerous errors in her course notes, and the list goes on. I will never take another class with her.
The class averages for her pre-knowledge test and midterm were both barely passing. What did she decide to do about it? Absolutely nothing. She knows the course is difficult, for many and brand-new written test experience, but decides to render it more difficult than needed. I would not recommend this course until at least third year. Terrible.
Amazing prof, in class she makes the information seems really simple. But in actuality the information is very difficult and it is so hard to know what you will be tested on which makes studying extremely hard.
Very useful. Topics cover a wide array of molecular biology techniques that are good to know for research and understanding papers. Very application based. Professor is the sweetest, and though she is rather fluffy in how she describes lecture material for a course that focuses on step-by-step procedures, she is pretty generous with marks.
Very sweet prof and a really good teacher, make sure to visit her office hours and you'll know what I mean. Be prepared to do all the course work and put effort into understanding the material 100% if you want an 80+.
Very kind professor, however her thoughts are immensely scattered. Biol 309 is a course that could be littered with amazing visuals and descriptive examples to demonstrate techniques but she includes very few to none of these. I got a great mark in this class, simply by watching her lecture summaries and better lecturers online.
Professor Moffatt is a great professor. Her course materials and content are of very high quality. The TA's teaching the course were also wonderful. If you are confused about topics reach out to her and she does her best to help you. She also chooses to use piazza which is a great resource that many students dont utilize in her course.
Biol 309 has been my most useful course taken, as a biochem student. Professor Moffatt is the primary reason for this. Unlike most biology courses, that require blind memorization, she designed this course in a particular way in which the concepts and molecular techniques build upon each other in a very precise way. She lives up to her reputation.
Work hard and you can achieve a good grade. You have to keep up with the lectures and coursework to do well. Dr. Moffatt is really nice and knowledgeable, its clear that she loves what she teaches! There is a weekly critical question AND tutorial worksheet, midterm, and exam. The course is very useful, my other bio courses overlap content.
