Very good lecturer. very enthusiastic and always willing to help. her tests are always straightfoward. great class to take.
She does a good job converying the material. Has a lot of energy during lectures. The exams aren't too bad if you do the homework. The labs get annoying, because they are soo picky. Good professor makes a crap subject a more tolerable.
I agree that she is very energetic, and understands that not everyone loves chemistry as much as she does. Her grading is very fair, and I'm glad she can acknowledge that not just chemistry majors take this class. I hate science, but she makes it fun!
Dr. Pappas is the best! I learned so much from her...too bad Zellmer can't teach 122 this well....
Wierd, class is easy if you attend most of the lectures
Nice lady
odd lady- annoyed me very much.. I sat front 'n' center alllll the darn time... and she seemed to look up (huge hall she lectured to) instead of at the people up close... seemed odd.
Great lecturer and great person. Very enthusiastic, which is a huge plus.
Thank God for a good TA
I felt like she went off topic in lecture a lot. Her laugh we really annoying, and she laughs at her own jokes which aren't funny. Has to erase examples 35 times, which make your notes look like chicken scratch.
She was so sweet. I hate chemistry and I went to almost all of her office hours to get help. She really rewards students who go out of their way to participate and truly understand the material, recognizing that profiency in chem is not innate for all!
Not bad, very understanding... uses demonstrations and corny jokes to keep class a bit more interesting.
a very interesting lady, thank god for study sessions- go if you need help before a test or just if you want to know what's going to be on it! demonstrations in the class were cool, just a lot of note taking
She's crazy in a way that makes you like going to class.
very interesting. great demos
Yes, this professor is nuts, but she is still cool. She blew off her fingernails during one demo so just don't sit to close to the front.
She may appear to be a good teacher however I dont think she cares about the students. She wouldnt let me take the quiz just bc i missed the recitation. It was my fault but i mean i pay the tuition just like everyone else and i am also tryin to do well in class.Good thing i had a good TA.
Dr. Pappas is kinda crazy, but she keeps you awake and attentive during class with her cool experiments and lame yet funny jokes (her laugh gets annoying though). Explains material well and is always willing to help. Take home quizzes make the class even easier.
Good professor, entertaining as far as professors go. As long as you study the material, you should do fine with this prof.
good teacher, really into chemistry. sometimes is hard to understand her meaning unless you are a chem wiz. other than that is ur basic chemistry weed out class. but she is a good prof.
I cannot stand Dr. Pappas... I do not understand how anyone can give her a good rating. This is ridiculous -- and the curve was boo boo too. I wish I could go back in time and have another teacher. Stay off the crack!
very crazy woman, but a great teacher and is very interested in teaching
you can't win with a chem class. she's loud so you won't fall asleep. other than that, you have to figure everything out on your own cuz she's too excited to explain in depth.
Like Dr. Pappas a lot. Easy if you do all the work. An added plus: she dressed up for Halloween.
I appreciated her enthusiasm, but she could be all over the place at times.
Pappas is a crazy woman. at first i thought she'd keep the class entertaining.. then again how entertaining can chem be right?? i stopped goin' to lecture after awhile because she got annoying. her exams were pretty easy.. u really just can't tell with her..
she was a little insane but it made the class interesting. she's a fun prof
Pappas made chemistry as good as it could be for me.
UGH this class sucked... and the exams were a ****

In this class, there is one equation: science = fire. And explosions. She does a lot of awesome demos in class, and the vast enthusiasm she has for her subject shines through in her lectures. I don't particularly like chem, so when she goes thru slides its a bit boring, but you can get printouts of the notes. Just study. You'll be fine.
i hate her and she sucks at teaching. you basically have to teach youself everything.
i don't like chem at all, but from what i've heard, we got probably the best chem professor there is so i'm not gonna complain...
I hated this class and her exams are really hard. If you have to take 121 take woodward.. he's the best
Best Chem Prof! She's very funny and nice. Makes eveything sound interesting. Awesome demos! Her midterms and final are so straight foward and never tries to trick anyone. Very easy. She likes class participation and wants people to really learn the material. She gave us candy for Halloween and overall, SHE'S GREAT!
A little crazy, but in an entertaining/amusing way. Her demos were really cool. The tests are very easy if you pay attention in class, do the homework, and look over the practice exams she posts online. Just don't piss her off. It's not pretty.
This class sucked! If you can take 101 do that. This professor showed no mercy when it came to grading. I attended all lectures, reviews, and went to her office hours so much she knew my name (so did the tutor room TA's). I still failed by 5 points and she wouldn't give me the extra points to pass.
Hard class take 101

She is hilarious.
She is unorganized. She did examples of easy problems and just explained verbally the tougher ones. No wonder the class average for the final was a 52%. Nice and helpful person. But definetely among the worst as a professor.
Dr. Pappas made this class interesting, she always had some kind of joke which made me want to pay attention to chemistry more. If you attend the lectures she gives you exact examples of the problems she likes to ask, and she generally will say "this is on the exam" or something else along those lines. Do the homework problems, it got me an A.
she does not explain examples well. she will starts a problem on the board and rarely finishes it. the examples are somewhat helpful, if you can understand what the heck she is doing or can read the board for that matter. her exams are extremely difficult and the quizes are decent.
shes kinda loopy... but manages to keep your attentionfor most of the time... her final was impossible and the average was a 52... ouch. i would not recommend her but if you have to take her its not the end of the world... i dont its her.. its the material
kinda off the wall.....
She is really nice & fun, but she's kinda scatter brained. You need to go to every class and take notes because it A. is on the exam and homework, and B. if people stop going she starts taking random attendance w/ no warning. She tries really hard to make the class fun and interesting, and I hated Chem. all my life, but this class wasn't too bad
Dr. Pappas was a little crazy, but I found the class to be very easy. A lot of her exams came from class lecture rather than recitation and the homework, so it was important to attend class. I thought she was really nice and a good teacher. She even took our comments halfway through the quarter and changed her teaching style.
I thought Dr. Pappas was awesome! I still go visit her sometimes. She's funny and did cool demos. A lot of times she told kids who came to class on Fridays (there were very few), exact questions that would be on an exam. Read and do homework, you'll be fine. Overall, one of the best profs i've had here.
Easy class, even though chemistry is very boring. Work load is kinda big, but the material isn't too bad. She's tries to make class fun, and succeeds sometimes.
Dr. Pappas is really organized and is always willing to help if you have a question. She explains everything well from the notes and always lets you know what parts of the notes are most important.
Very very nice lady, but a terrible professor. Giggles from time to time and it is SO annoying. The book and the TA's taught me much more than she did. I should have taken Zellmer 's class instead.
Dr. Pappas was overall an ok teacher. She gives a ton of notes which i thought were too much. The tests aren't that bad but make sure to read the book and pay attention, if you can
I took CHEM 121 a YEAR AGO. and I had an A without a curve. She gives powerpoints for notes and is extremely organized. I didn't touch the book. All you need to do is GO TO CLASS and then study the powerpoints she gives, and follow her problems. The quizzes, midterms, and final were a breeze. If you dont do well, try working harder...it helps
Dr. Pappas is a very good professor and does all she can to help students. I really enjoyed taking this class with her. The homework problems helped a lot. It is a lot of work but it's possible to do very well.
I only read the textbook and got an A since class and the text overlap so much. She is a great prof for the few times I went. Pretty big curve. Had an 88, class avg. was 67 and got an A.
I enjoyed Dr. Pappas's class. In chemistry courses in general, reading the book is extremely helpful. It was nice that Dr. Pappas did not simply read from the book, she actually taught. If you went by her office hours, she was extremely helpful. She likes to put questions on the test based solely on class info. Tests were tough, but it's chem.
Dr. Pappas was a fairly easy teacher as far as her exams & quizzes. Chemistry is not an easy topic but she helped make it better. Go to her for help & do NOT fall behind.
Pappas is a great teacher. Her first midterm isnt too bad. The review sessions are worthless because the TA's dont speak english very well. Her second Midterm is a royal pain in the butt. The final is like the second midterm. HARD!!!. All I have to say is good luck.
I LOVE Dr. Pappas! She's absolutely crazy but has the most fun personality. Actually makes chem interesting. The class is challenging but not impossible. Same goes for the tests. Pay attention in lecture and take good notes... and you should do fine on the exams. She is very fair.
This class will separate those who CAN from those who CAN NOT. Unfortunately, I was one of the latter. Dr. Pappas is very fair and nice. Her tests were pretty hard. Labs and quizzes were cake. Don't think for one moment that because you're acing the labs and quizzes that you'll do well in this class.
She's amazing. Take her. Take her. Take her.
great professor, excited to be teaching, add real world examples, doesnt read from book, provides pre-made notes that she follows losely allowing you to add your own onto her printouts. best chem prof ever.
Dr. Pappas is the bomb. Take her if you can. She is one of the nicest chem professors around and she actually wants you to succeed in her class. Go to class, she gives problems from the test during class. Take Dr. Pappas for chem, its the right choice.
One of the nicest proffessors in a very evil chemistry department. Taker her if you get a chance!
Very entertaining and informative professor. Looked forward to lecture every week due to her teaching method and fun atmosphere.
She was entertaining and a good lecturer. Her tests were fair and she's very helpful during office hours. Truly recommended.
Very enthusiastic! Really fun and crazy(in a good way). Her quizzes are easy and to the point. Her midterms are also fairly easy. Just do the practice midterms and you'll be fine.
Love her! She is so fun and loves what she does. Her demonstrations are halarious. She is a very fair teacher and she is always very willing to help. She gives you her lecture notes on carmen, but actually going to her lectures is very beneficial. Great teacher I learned a lot from her!
dr. pappas is very nice teacher, her exams are easy, actually to the point, i would say just go over her notes and you will be in a good shape, well sometimes she is not clear on her concepts but if u r the one who cares about getting A , take her!!!
She was pretty easy and straightforward, however her lectures are awful. I learned everything from the book which is awesome by the way. If you want an A take her, if you want to actually learn chemistry i recommend someone else.
She is very enthusiastic and crazy, which makes it easy to pay attention in lecture. However, I would recommend her more for 122 than 123. It was her first time teaching 123, and she rushed and was kind of all over the place. In general, Pappas exams I hear are more forgiving than the rest of the chem dept. I hear she's way better than Loza.
there's no doubt that going to lecture helped me get my grade. She's an amazing professor and I actually wanted to go to her class. She was extremely helpful too
She is truly there for the student. She will help you out, the information is hard but overall she makes it clear. I would encourage others to take her. She is a little crazy though, but then again it is the chemistry department.
Barb is a crazy woman. She'll go off on tangents and do insane experiments during class so I stopped going to class. I taught myself chem from the book and ended up getting an A. Exams are easy. Take her if you don't want to go to class but still want an A (with some work involved).
I realized that professors are crazy because of her! She is a great teacher though and loves what she does. Some of her experiments are scary. Sit between the middle and the back! This is an easy GEC
I've found chemistry very hard to learn from her. She is hard to follow in lecture and she's a bit crazy. In addition, she makes a LOT of mistakes so that doesn't help either. Her exams are tough. If you need to go to lecture to learn then don't take her...you won't learn from her, you're better off teaching your self.
Her lectures are long and boring. She doesn't explain things well, and is completely crazy. If you can teach yourself take her class. If not AVOID TAKING HER CLASS. Her test are also very hard.
Eccentric and good-spirited, but can be hazy on the details. Still one of the more enthusiastic teachers I've seen~
She is crazy but fun. She want to help students, especially in office hours. Her exams are not too bad.
She's very nice but her tests are WAY too difficult. Her tests are meant to "stump the chump" and purposely "weed out" people from the pre-med fields. If you want to actually learn chemistry, don't take her. If you want to get a good grade in chemistry, don't take her.
Dr. Pappas was insane. The class itself was not hard but her lectures were unbearable. she just read her slides and laughed to herself. Avoid her if you can
VERY enthusiastic about chemistry! Goes quickly and has difficult exams but is glad to help in her office hours and posts slides online. Makes bad jokes which lighten the mood and blows stuff up. Heard good things but was kinda disapointed overall.
Very solid teacher. Lectures can sometimes be a little overcomplicated, but for the most part a very fun and accessible teacher. Exams are pretty easy as well, work hard and you should get a good grade.
I was worried that I would do poorly since its chem but she was pretty clear with lecture, but sometimes too many facts were spouted out. But overall the cushion of quizzes and recitation assignment made this class an easy A. This is a good physical science GEC. I would recommend to anyone!
This woman is the most psychotic person I've ever seen. When she is not giggling like a nutcase or mumbling to the chalkboard, she is giving sub-par lectures that don't make a whole lot of sense. It doesn't help that the subject matter is difficult, and her tests are too... entertaining, but expect to learn from the book if you take her.
She was a pretty good teacher who made lectures fly by due to her fast pace and ridiculous jokes. The course is pretty tough, but she gives equations and stuff like that.
Not an "easy A." Dr. Pappas pulls the most random facts she spits out during lecture for the exams, so you're expected to basically write and memorize everything she says;if you don't go to lecture, you're screwed. Her TA, Seth, is hilarious and awesome, but sadly this was his last quarter. Hopefully he's replaced by someone half as good
this class was out of 1000 points, so it was difficult to get less than a b if you attended class and recitation. she was a little crazy at times, but kind of funny. even though attendence is not mandatory, i would recommend going to class because she sometimes says exactly what will be on the final/midterm. decent class for gec
She was a really funny teacher and I enjoyed her lectures. Tests and quizzes were fair, study exams she gives you and any links from old exams from other teachers. 1st test was easy for me, 2nd was a bit challenging, final wasn't so bad, look at the midterms given and READ THE BOOK, lots of questions come from there sometimes. She's a nice teacher
She was awful! Her class was very hard and midterms were not easy either. Her laugh is worst than a witch's. She goes on tirades and then says, "But you don't need to know that," after you took a page of notes. She is hard to follow in class because she is always switching back in forth from chalk board and over head.
Very outgoing teacher, she makes lecture go by really fast. Lecture attendance is not taken, but I highly suggest it because she tells you numerous things that will be on the mid-term and final. The book was pretty pointless, I only used it to do homework problems, which were pretty easy to begin with. Overall, very interesting class..
good professor, not very interested in chemistry but she made it relatively painless
0MG, her laugh is completely horrid. you will not learn a single thing in class. makes too many mistakes while teaching. i decided to stop going to lecture because it was unbearable. teach yourself and you will do fine. didn't attend a single lecture and im doing perfectly fine as nobody learns anything. save yourself time and stay home and read
Lecture is all over the place. However going to lecture can help with random questions on the midterm. Not very organized teaching style. A lot material must be self-taught.
This class has many components and can be overwhelming at times. She hates when student walk out in the middle of lecture, so do so secretly. The exams are fair and follow the practice exams and end of chapter questions. Lectures are useless, and you should be able to get a decent grade by using the textbook and going to recitation.
She is absolutely wonderful! I definitely recommend her for 121. She'll kick you in the pants, but it's totally worth it.
During lecture she will say what you need to know and what you don't need to know. DON'T LISTEN TO ANY OF THIS (if anything study the opposite). Read the book, do the end of chapter questions and use the practice exams. Lectures are USELESS!
Pappas is an excellent teacher. I HIGHLY recommend her for Chemisrty. I had her for 121 and I specifically chose to have her again for 122. Shes very bubbly and funny and keeps class interesting. Her tests are a little hard but she is very straightforward.
Really easy midterms but teaching can get kind of confusing and muddled. Use your text book for grey areas but don't be too scared about tests. Very fair and approachable. Laughs at her own jokes alot
She's amazing, funny, and bubbly. I hated chemistry until I had her.
Pappas is bubbly, hyper, and always happy. She hysterically laughs at her own jokes, which are usually pretty lame. Never touched the chemistry book that I paid 300 bucks for. Midterms are SUPER easy. Didn't get much out of her lectures. Very nice and approachable, and super excited about chemistry.
Dr. Pappas was a great professor! I admit, that had I worked harder in the beginning of the course, I would have received a higher grade. That being said, she greatly increased my interest in chemistry, and her lectures were rarely boring. She's excited about chem, and a lecture was not complete without an experiment, or something being blown up.
I had her my freshman year for CHEM 121 so I jumped at the chance to have her again for CHEM 122 the next quarter of that same year. She is very helpful if YOU go to her office hours. She is a little scattered during lectures with her notes and the demos but if you don't understand it go to her office hours. GO TO OFFICE HOURS.
Is a good prof but can be tough. If you're taking 121, she will make it as interesting as possible. Take her!
I am so glad I had Pappas as my Chem 121 Professor. She kept things interesting, taught well, and was very helpful. It was a lecture that I never fell asleep in. Pay attention to lectures because she uses random information from them in quizzes sometimes, and make sure you do ALEKS! And go to office hours, she's really friendly!
She's very... enthusiastic. I liked her but I wouldn't say she was my favorite professor. Her practice exams were ten times easier than the actual exam which made it harder to know what to study for.
Great professor but how OSU teaches gen chem is terrible!
I had Dr. Pappas for chem 121 and 122. Loved her! Very enthusiastic. Wants students to do well. Recommends end of chapter problems that WILL help with test. Went to every lecture. Really helped with challenging topics! <3
Great and somewhat crazy personality. Keeps me interested and motivated to do work
I absolutely loved her & would highly recommend her! She's very enthusiastic about the material she teaches & she does experiments every lecture. Her exams aren't too bad aslong as you do the E.O.C.s
Pappas is very entertaining, but she's difficult. Her practice exams were a lot easier than her actual exams, so studying and understanding EVERYTHING is a must! She moves quickly so be prepared before class as well.
GREAT teacher. She is very entertaining and full of life. Her tests are very straight forward but her notes are a bit hard to follow. I found it easiest to read the book after her lectures. Try to go to her office hours often, she is extremely helpful.
Dr. Pappas was awesome! I didn't realize how good of a professor was until I had other Chemistry professors. You actually learn a lot by going to Lecture. She is always willing to help and is very friendly and funny. Her exams are tough, but very fair, and the class is curved generously.
I LOVED Dr. Pappas! I wish I could have her for all my chem classes! I really disliked chemistry prior to her class, now I really enjoy it. She is challenging, but her tests are VERY fair. I felt that what I got wrong was bc I didn't study, not bc she's a poor teacher. If you have the chance to take her, do so. She see her class as a team effort.
Loved Dr. Pappas. Quizes, and midterms were very fair. Final harder however, she is an amazing teacher. Always helpful!
Chem 1210 is a hard class and luckily she doesn't make it harder than it needs to be. Unlike other professors, if you studied before the test, there are no surprises. She's very fair and hilarious and explodes something in every class. If you must take Chem, take her!
Pappas is such a sweet heart. Do not miss her classes; some of the answers to the exam come straight out of her mouth. Do the homework and ask her for assistance when you are in bind. She is hilarious, and is more than willing to help her students. Her practice midterms are fair and representative of her exams. Don't fall behind though. I got an A.
I liked Dr. Pappas! OSU Chemistry is never fun, but Dr. Pappas made it bearable. She really wants her students to succeed. Go to lecture. DO THE HOMEWORK. Go to her office hours. If you do the work, you will be fine.
Dr. Pappas is probably one of the best Chem teachers at OSU. The class is hard, not hers specifically. But, if you go to her office hours she is a huge help & it will show her that you are committed. Make sure to do ALL homework and try your hardest on the labs!
If you have to take a Chemistry class and you get the chance to decide between Dr. Pappas and another professor, CHOOSE Dr. Pappas. She is very helpful and always go to her office hours.
Pappas is seriously an amazing professor. She is super enthusiastic and always willing to help! Chem in general is terrible, however, she makes it interesting. Would definitely suggest her!
Dr. Pappas is an overall good professor. She has a very lively, wacky personality which I feel is a must to be any kind of professor! She also has extensive experience in industry, so she brings plenty of real world examples to lecture. Pound for pound, I'd say she's the best gen chem professor at OSU
This class is known to be hard but Dr. Pappas is really entertaining in lecture. Obviously the tests are difficult but that is expected. Dr. Pappas is a cooky teacher and loves to do experiments in class.
Dr. Pappas is very passionate about teaching and loves to have her students involved! Her exams are difficult but as long as you go to class and do extra practice problems that she provides you will be fine!
This class is hard. She is confusing and her exams are very difficult. Practice problems will not help you on exams, neither will her office hours (which I went to frequently) I am amazed that I passed this class. Lab, online homework, and recitation are what saved me. I failed every midterm despite studying almost every day. The curve is a joke
Dr. Pappas is a great professor. Lots of industry experience. She is hilarious and frequently cracks jokes to make lectures bearable. Tests aren't easy but also aren't the hardest I've seen for 1210. Go to lecture, pay attention and study your notes and you should be fine.
This class is made to be hard, so whoever you have it's going to be hard. But she made it bearable and gave us all the resources to do well (multiple practice exams, online homework, specific EOC questions). I ended up with a C which I wasnt so happy about but I'm not a good test taker, which your grade is basically based upon (62.5% to be exact)
TAKE DR. PAPPAS! Her tests are straight-forward, I missed a two questions on the exam because I over-thought them. 11 people got a 100% on one exam. If you have taken AP Chemistry, 1210 will be a cake walk. 1220 is a little bit harder, but still super manageable.
I would ABSOLUTELY 100% recommend taking chemistry with Dr. Pappas. The class is hard because the class is hard, but if you go to lecture and study the material, she never throws curve balls on the exam. I knew what to expect on every exam, and did well on all of them except the one I didn't study for (duh). TAKE HER CLASS!
I had 1210 with Dr. Pappas and liked her so much I made sure to get into her 1220. I'm glad I did, many people now in 1220 say they wish they chosen her earlier for 1210. She's funny and her lectures make sense, exams are straightforward and her practice exams do prepare you. She is very easy to recommend. Got an A in her 1210, doing well in 1220
Dr. Pappas is like Ms. Frizzel from the magic school bus. She has a crazy personality that will make you listen to the things she says. I never took ap chem but I did well in her class. TAKE HER. SHE IS GREAT
Very funny, Reasonable with material covered in amount of time. exams taken during class period which is a major plus! Make sure to do the homework or else you wont make it.
AMAZING! best chemistry professor; hilarious and smart. Very clear and energetic. Does a lot of experiments in class which are always fun. Definitely take her class but be prepared to put in the work, it's no easy A.
Dr. Pappas is very nice, however, the tests were what killed me in this class. I've never had problems with chemistry before, but ended up having to withdraw from this class after failing the first two midterms. Try to take with a prof with easier exams
She puts notes online and those are helpful
Dr. Pappas usually gaves pretty entertaining lectures and her practice exams online were really helpful. The only problem I had with her was that she would sometimes give incorrect information during lecture and it would be really confusing when she would try and correct it.
Dr. Pappas is visibly passionate & excited about chem & that really helped my outlook on the course. gen chem is designed to REALLY push you to be an independent learner. She's funny & nice, but pretty scatterbrained, so you 100% CANNOT rely solely on lecture if you want a good grade. Read the chapter before lecture, and GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!
Personality is interesting enough, but sometimes gets confusing. She gets hard to follow, at times going quick and scatterbrained making it hard to pick out important information. A little time out of class going over material helps, esp example problems-j get them down bc she goes so fast in lecture u don't have to understand but go over later
Chem 1210 is a hard class, but Professor Pappas is a fantastic professor. She was very good at explaining things and went over a ton of problems in class. Asked and listened to our feedback about tests and our understanding of the material. If you study, go to class, and do the work, you can get a good grade
She was rather scatterbrained at times and would switch from joyful to serious in the blink of an eye. Kind of unnerving. To be fair though she always had faith that I would pass and I did.
