Very nice and helpful.
I learned so much from her, very helpful, a lot of work but she grades easy
Made me feel comfortable speaking even though I'm not fluent. Amazing woman.
Awesome teacher. Nicest person ever. Easy class, easy tests, easy A.
She is a great profesora! She is always willing to help.
Shes so unorganized...and counts too much on attendence!
She is incredibly helpful and makes the class fun...I highly recommend her class
she is so helpful and really enthusiastic, and cares about each students progres
VEry easy going, and extremly helpful. If you need this class take with her.
Very strict, need to do ALL the homework if not youll score low. Not a fun class. Take roll.
Very enthusiastic; gives lots of work but grades easily on everything but tests; I often find myself confused when she gives directions; not very easy but easy to do well
I don't know what all these people are talking about. This is the best Spanish teacher at SDSU. Very understanding, very helpful. Learned a lot. Fun, outgoing personality.
Best Spanish teacher I have ever had. Extremely helpful and ALWAYS smiling. Nicest lady at SDSU.
great teacher, very helpful and willing to accomodate everyone.
Wonderful instructor. Gives 110% towards all her students. She is the best professor I've had at this university
She is the best, most enthusiastic Spanish teacher I have ever had. Extremely helpful;does everything possible to help you pass. Her class is difficult only because Spanish is difficult not because of her teaching techniques.
Great professor but is not always in office hours and doesn't respond to e-mails.
she's smily, but she's really HARD!! she thinks she's the only class we have! expects too much, way too many assignments. essays are hard!
Rodriguez is such a sweet person. She always keeps you entertained during class with her enthusiastic personality. Class was not hard, but did challenge the students. If you listen in class you don't have to study fr test because she is a great teacher.
Great professor very easy. If you are in class you will get an A. She is very helpful and very sweet. She takes role and you have homework every day.
Barbara is extremely nice and helpful if you need it. However, her class is designed for people that are confident with their Spanish and are capable of writing a 3pg report in Spanish only. Don't take this if you doubt your skills.
Class was a joke. Felt like I was in high school. Cannot come in late, cannot miss more then 4 classes out of 47! Assignments are tedious and boring... and doesn't even count participation. If you have to take it, i recommend the T-TH session
I have mixed feelings about her. Yes it is easier if you are already fluent, but that's with any Spanish class. She had a few pets in the class, but was fair. Have to go to class and homework everytime.Cite on research paper!!or go from A to C!
She is the best Span prof I had so far at SDSU. She gives a lot of hmwk and the reading is difficult at times. There are 3 essays,3 tests, semtester research speech and paper & opt.final. Take this class if you want to learn Spanish.Hard but rewarding
Very helpful, very understanding with the gringos who are doing their best to aprender the spanish.
Very enthusiastic, lots of homework, essays and class participation, but if she sees that you participate alot and prove that you know Spanish then at the end of the semester you don't have to take the oral exam. She likes to call on people. Don't worry
I made sure I had her twice so that should say a lot. The readings are hard and really unclear...there is also a lot of homework, but when she starts class discussion everything becomes clear. I wish she would summarize the reading before we had it. Super nice!!!
She has a nice bubbly personality but gives homework everyday.Doesn't discuss the topic until after you've turned it in (Sucks!). Tests are easy. 3 essays 1 of them in class and are about readings that are hard to understand for a gringo. There's a last paper and presentation in addition to a final.
Great prof! You will learn a lot.She is really nice.Try to get cuarderno from a former student, will help alot in unecessary homework. You should go over the readings though. Participate in class, ask dumb questions & u are golden! If u do well on tests & essays,no need to take the final or oral exam.
Be in class do the readings and ur in, its an easy class and she is helpfull i would recommend it
Highschool revisited. No credit for untyped work. Attendance/H.W. daily. No late work. Multiple papers, boring topics assigned. Nice lady, boring style and material. opt for death first.
Knowledgable, but closed minded. Did not accept vocabulary other than that of Mexico, which is not good for those that don't speak Mexican Spanish. Refused to help with essays after class, and told me to go to the tutor room. Decent class if you dont really dont care about learning or participating.
She is not hispanic, so her first language wasnt spanish. I seems that she studied really hard because she got a PhD but that doesnot tell you anything, she sometimes gets confused and sometimes she doesnt know the meaning of some words and she asks her spanish-speaking students, so then who is the
good professor, really learned a lot about writing in spanish. there are 3 papers, pretty easy, and a couple test, nothing big. if you put effort into the class you will learn alot.
Nice lady, I liked her a lot. She is very helpful. Just know the book and do the presentation and you'll be ok.
You can learn a lot maybe from this professor but not Spanish. What is wrong with SDSU things are pretty bad when they hire someone from Germany to teach Spanish. I hated the class and felt I knew more than the professor. That is bad!
Antisemetic ****. Has no sympathy for her students. Fairly easy class, but she's a real ****. Don't recomend her at all
Excellent professor. Will go out of her way to help students, fair grader, good instructor, very clear requirements. There's a lot of work involved, but even with the papers and presentation it probably averages about an hour outside of each class. Ignore the 'anti-semitic' - I know him and he's confusing profs. I'm a gringa and got an A(Ithink
One of the best classes I've taken. I was scared of her (since I had read some bad reviews), but she's a fair teacher. Class consists of 3 exams (lowest one can be dropped), final exam, presentation and daily HW. DO THE HW! It helps you practice and she gives credit for it. Hard material, but be patient and ask for help if needed.
Very sweet lady, always happy and helpful making the class enjoyable and easy to attend! If you are really looking to learn...don't take her. She talks a lot about random stuff. It was easy to pull a good grade and I was a white girl in a class of native speakers!
Span 350 is a hard class, however she is really patient and really helps the students. She is a hard but fair grader. She gives you study guides and a lot of help. At first I was overwhelmed, but things got better. She is a great teacher and she definately knows her stuff, even if she is from Germany. Great Teacher!!!
nice prof, gets off topic a lot. practice exams are helpful. if u know about spanish grammar, you'll do well, if not- u must study outside class & use the grammar books/websites she suggests. non-native speakers will struggle w/this class. a lot of info covered in short time.

Great teacher! Class lectures are interesting and assignments vary in genre and difficulty. Both the assignments and readings gradually increase in difficulty but aren't too much for a 300 level course. The tests are fairly easy and cover specific grammatical problems and she isn't a very tough grader. Given the chance I'll take her class again!
Lots of hw. You learn A LOT! She's a great teacher, but be prepared to work hard!
if you're a native spanish speaker you will think she's really funny. class is really easy and tests are always very similar. generous on final presentations.
This teacher cracks me up! She'll go into these bizarre laughing sprees and then just stop and stare down the class. She is extremely friendly and you can tell she really enjoys life! She may seem unclear about the projects, but in reality she's just super broad and will love any work you do as long as you prepare for it and speak in Spanish.
She is very enthusiastic about the subject and highly entertaining. She is a good teacher and is easy to approach if you need help. She is a difficult grader and there are small homework assignments due every day.
EASY class if you are a spanish speaker. If you're not, you'll definitely learn a lot! She is a very nice lady and loves to teach. She gets off topic often in her lectures but the're pretty interesting. Gives daily homework but is actually really easy, tests are kinda long but not hard, just put effort on the presentations and you'll do just fine.
This is the best spanish class I've taken at state. She's super enthusiastic and a great teacher overall. There are daily homework assignments, 3 tests, and 2 presentations. I'm not a native spanish speaker, and I pulled of an A-. I would reccommend her, and I'm taking her for 302 next semester.
This was by far the most difficult Spanish class I've taken. I got A's in every other class and I struggled to get a B in this class. She is a tough grader on compositions and tests but makes up for it on the final presentation. I heard she's easy for 301 but her 302 class is definitely hard if you are not a native speaker.
I've taken this prof. for 301 and 302 and I've gotten A's both times. Easy prof., nice, friendly, and energetic. Daily HW, 3 compositions, 3 tests, and a final. She prepares you well for everything. I'm NOT a native speaker and I thought this class was very easy. I would take her again for any spanish class at SDSU.
She expects you to do hw every day but collects it randomly. She takes attendance which is annoying. She mostly teaches to the native spanish speakers and ignores the "anglo-hablantes"
VERY LOVEABLE PROF W/TONS OF ENERGY. Participation is key-speak up and ask q's bc she speaks fast and expects a lot. Go to the tutoring lab for ALL assignments & you'll be fine bc she grades tuff. She does take attendence & collects hw randomly, so show up and you'll be fine. The tests are really hard, & she's strict on grammar, but she's so nice.
She pairs non-native speakers w/native speakers, so they can learn!HW almost every night. The test are pretty straight forward, but she marks off for grammar and know the vocabulary!Compositions are easy;use the tutors!!She's is very lenient on the oral presentations.Attendance is mandatory and you can't use any electronic device in her class.
She's a very good teacher & is definitely not a harsh grader. She won't grade native speakers the same as non-native speakers but it's fair. She has several in class activities where she pairs both together which makes it more fun. Her tests are straight forward and never tries to confuse you. She has a lot of energy & tries to share it.
even though this teacher is funny and sweet her class is very borin i think she doesnt realize as a native speaker of spanish there is a lot of way to express somthin like there is in english a lot of way to said the same thing but her she not a native speaker she is german and she doesnt know what she is explainin or she doesnt know the subjetc sh
Really easy class and such a sweetheart teacher. She will push you to succeed while making sure you are alright. Cares about her students, does assign homework and has very good class discussions. She is very helpful at all times and will never cancel class so show up.
Class itself is not the end of the world. However, if you are thinking about taking this teacher, make sure you are ready to attend all classes and show up on time. I was unable to attend several classes because of work and lost the entire 10 percentage points allocated to participation even though when i was present i constantly participated.
She is a great teacher, grades different for native and non-native spanish speakers, uses the textbook all the time, the tests are not hard if you know the vocabulary and if you read the stories, attendance is mandatory and is 10% of your grade, She loves to teach and is there to help anyone. Take this class!
She does not really check her email and unclear about assignment. Easy grader. She tries to act cute and it got kind of annoying.
she is the sweetest professor i have ever had. cares about her students, creates a welcoming atmosphere --> great for a spanish class. she does grade native speakers and non native speakers differently, but her grading is fair. it can be a very fun, informative class but you have to put in the effort AND you can only miss 2 classes.
Very helpful teacher. She is very sweet and funny. She wants her students to do well in her class and get most of the points. The readings are very interesting. She is not a hard grader only focuses much on punctuation. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!
I love Barb. She is an incredible teacher and you can tell she loves what she does! I learned a lot.
She's a nice teacher, class is not hard if you attend daily, you need to buy the book and do all the homework assignments. Take her class!
Great teacher, she cares about her students & if they do well. She appreciates when you visit her office hours. Hard grader on essays, make sure you take your papers to the tutors, she emphasizes this a lot! Overall great teacher. She really knows her stuff! (I am a Spanish major too!)
She is a very nice person and a really good teacher. She really cares about her students and wants them to do well. With that said, she is a really tough grader and a stickler when it comes to little details. she treats students like 2nd graders, if you glance at your phone you dont get credit for attending class. Every little detail maters.
This teacher expects too much from native Spanish speakers but does not deliver anything to them. Spanish is not her native language so she does not know idioms or ways of saying things. She should be teaching lower levels because there is not anything subtantial in her classes. She gets rid of students she does like and you do not even notice.
Ms. Rodriguez appears to be sweet 'cz she loves to see the comments students write about her. That how teachers keep their jobs. But there is no substance in her class 'cz she does not know the Hispanic culture well, and she canno relate the readings to real life even when there is a lot of material that could be connected one way or the other.
Extremely nice and helpful. Assigns alot of homework and grades a bit on the harsh side... I agree she is a stickler on details. She's clearly passionate and truly wants everyone to succeed, but if you are looking for an easy ride she is not for you.
I thought she was way too hard in the beginning of the semester, but once I went to her office she helped me out and will explain if you only ask. Does not like to repeat things she said in class though, but will explain if you don't understand. Wants the best from all. I would take her again.Miss class=0 hw points beware it says no penalty.
Hard class, but if you stay for office hours she's very helpful. Harsher grading for native Spanish speakers than non-native speakers. She's a bit out there, but is really very sweet! Don't take this for an easy A, but if you actually work at it and show up to class an A is very possible.
If you always show up to class and put effort into the assignments you can definitely get an A. Two oral presentations, three tests, a couple essays, and lots of (tedious) homework.
Want to mention I love learning Span and was so excited to take her class, but turned out to be dreading it every time. Uninteresting discussions. A lot of useless, boring activities. Listened to her talk with Span speakers all classes. I didn't learn much at all. Grading is weird, too. Take the other professor for 301, heard he's much better.
I took spanish class with her at grossmont college (easy) and now SDSU (challenging). She's a fair grader. She is helpful when coming to her office. Both classes (Spanish 301&302): 2-3 essays, 1 oral presentation, 2-3 exams & many short homeworks. Can't use your spanish fluently? Relax! She has the experience and passion about Spanish. TAKE HER!
Senora Rodriguez is such a nice person! She makes the class fun and recognizes that she has native and non-native speakers in her class and grades accordingly. She is pretty clear and fair in her instruction and grading. I'd definitely take her again!
Challenging. However, Profesora Rodriguez pushes her students to succeed in this class. I normally do bad with Spanish grammar, but because of her persistence, I was able to use those darn accents innately.
SHE IS GOOD PROFESSOR, BUT SHE IS NOT CLEAR OF THE MATERIAL. SHE IS ALSO A HARD GRADER, TRY NOT TO TAKE THIS CLASS
Both classes are a lot of work, taking them at the same time was overwhelming, but it was helpful having her for both and getting to know her. She is a really sweet teacher and is always available to talk to. BUT keep in mind that a lot of work has to go into this class and it is very challenging.
Super nice and easy going. Attendance and participation are graded. Taking both courses at the same time is hard since she schedules tests and presentations around the same time in both. But she definitely is willing to help you out when you need it and pushes you to be your best. Definitely one of the better professors at sdsu
You MUST work for an A in this class. You MUST attend class, not just for your participation grade, but you will miss out if you don't attend. There are 3 essays (take home, group, and one in class), 3 exams (grammar), and 1 final (grammar). She is a tough grader but willing to help if you ask. This should be expected from an upper division course.
She is super friendly and I think she is pretty funny too, which makes class not too bad to go to. Very helpful as well! Willing to make compromises with students.
Her bright and entertaining personality make this class worth taking. Other than that, her class is HARD... you MUST already have a good grasp on Spanish basics, you MUST have good work ethic to do the homework, you MUST show up to class every day. She is a tough grader but she can also be understanding if you show that you're putting in effort.
From the perspective of someone learning Spanish as a second language, this class is a huge jump from Spanish 211/212. She doesn't really explain the stories we read for homework in class like professors I had in the past would so it is definitely up to you to go on your own time to ask for clarification. If not, you'll fail the tests!
I took both Spanish 301 and 302 with Rodriguez. Both classes are about the same. She grades your papers really hard like she's an English prof and expects your Spanish writing to be flawless. If you go to class all the time it will help your grade. Homework isn't bad, have a good grasp on Spanish, it's upper division so no surprise
so rodriguez is pretty funny, definitely a character. she grades kind of hard, so go to office hrs and spanish tutors for your essays. there is no final which is great but that means you need to ace your 2 other tests. only 2 presentations that she grades easily. show up to class-you only get 3 absences. shes hilarious but you def gotta work hard
She is awesome! Super easy class, she reviews basic things you should already and builds up on that. Very helpful and super nice! I can see how it might be a little difficult for a non-native spanish speaker but I myself was not good at spanish at all and did well! Go to class every day and you will do fine :)
1) For papers(2)/presentation(1) (ex: take home paper), go to her office hours b/c she tells you exactly what needs to be change. Definitely go to the tutors too. 2)For the exams, take advantage of the hw and in-class work for practice. Ask Qs. A plus, she drops an exam grade. 3) This class seems hard but with 1&2, you're highly likely to get an A.
Super sweet professor who really wants you to do well in her class! Her lectures on grammar are very easy to follow, she gives you clear examples of what her tests will look like and most of the projects are easy if you put in a little effort.
Attendance is mandatory. You won't pass if you don't show up. She is a little spazzy and funky but easy to follow along. Helps a lot if you read the material before class. Homework assignments are frequent but easy.
She is a really nice and fun person, and can be funny. However, going to this class 3 days a week was horrible because she talks a lot and it gets really boring. Her tests and group projects are fair and have clear grading criteria. Overall it's a good class but it was boring and uninspiring.
Such a sweet women. I learned so much in her class and she inspired me to be a better student. She grades on WHAT YOU DESERVE. As every teacher should. Love her, everyone she take her!
She is honestly one of the sweetest professors. She lets you miss three classes without penalty and some homework assignments. The actual curriculum in the class is challenging but she makes sure you are very familiar with the content. I am a Spanish major who went to all of the classes and did all of the homework and was still only got a B.
I had SPAN301 and SPAN302 with her and really enjoyed it. The classes did challenge me, but it also made me love Spanish more. She is always willing to help and is SUPER understanding. Both classes have oral presentations, several exams, and several written tests. She also expects you to do your homework, and will randomly check. Great professor!
Im Taking Spanish for my minor, and I thought Rodriguez was a very solid teacher who is willing to help you out if you show up and let her. She has a lot of energy in the class can be really interactive and fun if you go along with her. All of the exams are reasonable, and she gives you the chance to rewrite essays if you failed. Good teacher!
Always came into class with a ton of energy and tried her best to get everyone to interact. The tests were pretty straightforward but you still need to study. The instructions on the projects could be very nit picky at times which led to some confusion but she was very accommodating and willing to go out of her way to help students do well.
So glad I chose this teacher! She's a bit spazzy but that definitely makes the class enjoyable. HW assignments are easy af, and there are 2 presentations --just do them and you'll get an A easily.
By far my favorite professor Ive ever had!! She is caring, funny and has very reasonable expectations of students. The class is well balanced between lecture, discussion, and group activities. Some work outside of class but it is a manageable amount. Dont miss out on the chance to take a class with Professor Rodriquez!!
The best professor you will ever have! Professor Rodriguez is committed to the success of her students and truly cares about all of her students on a personal level. Her class is a balanced mix of lecture, discussion, and group work. Attendance is required and participation strongly encouraged. Some work outside of the class but not unmanageable.
