One of the most caring professors I've ever hadI hardly even mind the hard work
Nice enough prof. Didn't feel like I learned much. Class kind of boring.
Class was "Adolescent Lit" and we did picture books. Easy but wierd. Learned 0
Very caring teacher, means well, but needs to be more focused on reading
Really nice prof! Learning style different. Wished we had focused on a how to.
Had favorites, very nosy, no tests, class was boring
Didn't learn a whole lot. Took months to grade 1 project. Easy.
Friendly on certain days of the week, lot of work but fun to make your own book.
INTERESTING CLASS BUT YOU ALREADY KNOW EVERYTHING WE GO OVER. KIND OF BORING
Worst teacher I have ever had. Never returns work, very disorganized.
Total waste of time. Did not learn a thing. Not a nice lady!
Very nice prof. I enjoyed her teaching style and will take more classes w/her.
class , but grades fairly easily. very unclear about assignments
very lost in her explanation. wasnt involved in work outside the classroom. Tho
I agree. She's the worst prof I've ever had.
hard, never hands stuff back, needs to be a brown noser
MEAN! Grades depending on her mood-no rationale. Quizes on trivial things. DROP!
Hated class did not learn a thing..never hands back things DROP!!!!!
Easy A, was potential to learn a lot more than we did
Magnificent Professor, scholarly and spectacular presentation, well prepared. Un
enthusiastic, demanding, knows her stuff
somewhat out of date, lots of work but talk with her and you'll be fine
She is very disorganized! She changes her mind about what she wants. Drop

VERY INCONSISTANT! Class is important, but there was never any STRUCTURE!

Knows her stuff and I think the people who didn't like her don't like hard work.

Avoid her
take if you want to learn about Martha Stuart
she rambles on about nothing, childrens book good to keep for your own class
Change Teachers NOW!! Grades HORRIBLE!

Most high pitched annoying voice. Good Luck - hardest class ever.
Think she is the queen, afterall she is a DR.

turns out, she taught a lot of stuff that really helped during my student teaching

She is the worst teacher ever, I would suggest dropping this class ASAP. Unless you want to hear meaningless information about the same thing day after day... "clozes" anyone...
at first I didn't know what to except from her, but after I gave her a chance, she turned out to be a pretty good prof. Its not a hard class, and she grades pretty fairly... I didn't learn a whole lot, but just enough to pass me by... no exams!
I don't know why she is a teacher! I took Eng 307 in hopes of learning something about teaching writing, instead we learned about her life and anything else that DID NOT relate to writing. Don't take her, her classes are a waste of time & money!
Be prepared for lateness, no clarity on any assignment, and constant stories about her son. This was the worst class I have ever had at GVSU. she's too old and repetitive. We also spent 4 hours on the syllabus alone! That alone should tell you something..
She is without a doubt the worst tteacher I have ever had. She was never on time for class. She is rude to her students. Going to class made me want to cry. I learned NOTHING in an entire semester. I want a refund.
Class was pointless, I learned nothing from her. Really the best part was going into the schools to read with the students. Other than that, there is really no point to this class
This is the WORST class I have ever taken. What did I learn...nothing about teaching reading just about her son and daughter and about their lives. Don't take this class unless you absolutely have too! Get a different professor!!! No tests! Hard grader!
She is very repetitive and sidetracks a lot. The sidetracks have very little to do with the class, if any. You actually learn about increasing comprehension and such rather than actually teaching reading. I loved the tutoring though.
She is very boring and you learn more about her than the actual subject. She has favorites so suck up in the beginning. You'll pass just do the work.
I was looking forward to this class but now that I have taken it, I wish I hadn't! She makes it very clear from the beginning who her favorites are so if you have brown on your nose, you're in luck! Very boring and is an incredibly hard grader. RUN RUN RUN!
Big waste of my time and money. i was excited for this class but she is so unclear and unorganized. if u don't want to hear her whole family story and the same gossip over and over then stay away!!!
literally the worst prof i've ever had. boring, teaches nothing, and EXTREMELY strict on attendance.
Terrible. Just terrible. Tells you to take notes when she's talking about KWL charts or Thematic units. I learned that 3 semesters ago!
HORRIBLE. Repeats the same thing over and over again. SO boring. You will want to hurt yourself if you take her. Does not make her expectations clear. Such a pathetic teacher. Doesn't know how to communicate. Don't take her.
Every class period we talked about tutoring for at least an hour, took a 20 minute break, and watched a movie. We talked about the same thing everyweek. Assignments aren't clear..the ones on the syllabus are not the ones she gives in class. The lesson plans for tutoring are so repetitive that it gets old after the first one that you write.
TERRIBLE. Unclear. Plays favorites, judges students before actually listening to them, never clarifies anything, and constantly changes her mind about requirements and assignments. Take any one BUT her and you'll at least learn something-I sure didn't learn a thing from her, except to warn everyone else about her to put an end to the insanity.
Okay, I admit. She definitely played favorites and was sometimes unclear. Make sure you TYPE everything, doesn't matter what it is, TYPE it. The book project feels overwelming but in the end, I found it to be a lot of fun and it will be a great teaching tool one day. Class can be boring at times but I didn't mind too much and I got an A.
One of the worse profs I ever had.unclear.contradicts herself constantly, assignments are never clear and 1/2 the time she forgets the directions she gave you and then marks you down for not doing it "right".she plays favorites, talks mostly about herself and not at all about how to teach children to read! I didn't learn anything from this class
Great Professor. You had to work for an A in her class, but as long as you did the work, it was attainable. I enjoyed her class a lot. i would recommend her class. but if you are looking to slack, this is not the class for you. sometimes she got off topic, but for the most part i benefitted from her class and it raised my GPA :)
Gets very distracted, contradicts her own instructions, is never clear on assignments or projects. Lots of projects + unclear directions = lots of extra work. Try to find another professor if you can.
I would def recommend another professor. First day of class she said, "I am not professor Schneider. I am DOCTOR Schneider." I had a really hard time following the book and her lessons. I did enjoy learning the various reading techniques. Expect lots of work outside of class (and the lesson plan you learned in ED 200 is WRONG!)
ok, in my opinion, these evalutations are very misleading. Dr. Schneider is a sweet lady with a wealth of knowledge to share. If/when assignments are unclear, simply ASK her to clarify them and she does. Not tough, but lazy vs. assertive. I would definitely recommend her and have learned a lot in her class!
OK, some people are be really harsh against Dr. Schneider. She is an EXTREMELY knowledgeable person and wants her students to succeed and be wonderful teachers. She is strict, usually, but that's for a reason. She's a very nice lady and is more than willing to clarify when things get confusing. Expectations are reasonable. I highly recommend her!
I'm not sure why everyone is so hard on her. She is a great prof. She is very knowledgeable and has a lot of experience to share. She wants all her students to succeed and become great teachers. I would definately take her again. TAKE HER! You will learn SO MUCH! Clarity isn't great, but the class is pretty easy. DO NOT trust the bad ratings.
Just b/c you're a "sweet" lady sometimes, doesn't mean you should teach. This class was my biggest waste of time yet; she totally plays favorites and is completely condescending. By insisting on being better and higher than her students (DOCTOR Schneider...), she makes it impossible to build any kind of professional relationship. Hard grader, too.
Dr. Schneider admittedly plays favorites, and if you're a favorite the class isn't bad. She chooses excellent texts, but I didn't learn much other than how to write a children's book.
Dr. Schneider is really in her element here. She chooses incredible texts that you wouldn't get exposure to in other contexts and leads great discussions and gives interesting lectures. It's the earliest class I've taken since my freshman year, but I'm so glad that I did!
I have never had a worse class in my life & I am a hard working, serious student. The prof grades arbitrarily, disrespects students of minorities & w differing views, talks nonstop about nonsense, does not look at differing perspectives, & will not reason. You will NOT learn & even worse, u will not be respected.
DONT TAKE THIS COURSE!!!! You will regret the day you did. She talks nonstop about herself and you will learn literally nothing in this class.
Very funny and interesting lady. She has a great reading list for International children's lit. She talks quite a bit about her personal life which can be annoying when class starts 1/2 late everyday. Might as well show up late..
Professor Schneider is nice, but I did not learn anything new from taking her course. She does talk about herself quite often, which cuts into class time. The class was easy, but I felt like I wasted a lot of money. I would recommend taking another professor, simply bc I didn't gain anything from her.
Schneider is very nice, but talks about herself too much. Didn't learn anything new, so take somebody else.
Very nice and interesting professor however like most of the comments, she tends to talk about the texts but then has a story abotu herself to go along with it. Never returned any assignments until AFTER the final exam, even then it was only one paper she returned. Students were blind when it came to their grade.
Talks a lot. Doesn't really help students out much or communicate about grades, grading, or expectations. Always has a story to go with whatever she's going over. As a result, the class I took with her covered only 7 of the 11 books I had to buy for it. Knowledgable, but a time-waster. If you're going to spend that much time, make it a 3 hour class
Very disrespectful! She told everyone to drop her class the first day. She told students they should have nothing else going on in their lives because her class takes priority. Then she told everyone to drop her class...again.
She tore people apart on their lesson plans after having given no guidelines for them or expectations. She takes off points if you don't buy the books even though other than for this reason you won't need all of them. She will either give pop quizes on what you havent read or will go on and on about something you just read and does not need this
Run. Please don't take this lightly. She is rude; she interrupts constantly. I can honestly say I learned NOTHING in her class. Save your money, your time, and your sanity.
She's crazy. She talks all the time, and it didn't typically concern the topic at hand. She always has a story to tell and will take an hour to tell one. I didn't learn anything in her class, but she was a nice lady. I would not recommend her at all. Pop quizzes on text were specific and the class was a waste of my time and money spent.
She's a very sweet lady and really enjoys discussion. If you get a good class with a few people who carry the discussion she will always be happy and you'll get very few quizzes. There is only one paper and two literary circles. I recommend taking this class!
I don't know what everyone is talking about she is am awesome professor. Yes she may ramble on a bit but I learned so much from her. She goes out of her way to help you in any way she can. She shows empathy which is not common these days. She also does not have tests and her "pop" quizzes are super easy. TAKE HER FOR SURE!
I really liked this professor. Everything that you learn is really relevant. This class is mostly about the tutoring that you will do and how to do it. She talks a lot, but I found what she had to say interesting and I learned a lot. She is also flexible and doesn't overload you with work because you are already doing so much for the tutoring.
She veers off topic & never answers questions directly. She's unwilling to see error in her ways even when the entire class is confused & frustrated. When I asked for clarification on behalf of the class, she became defensive, sarcastic, & condescending, as though I was at fault for her lack of clarity. I've never had such an unpleasant experience.
Worst English course/professor I have had in my 5 yrs at GVSU. She is always off schedule, but does not update the students about the schedule changes. She based more than half of our grade on a final project she did not provide an assignment sheet or guidelines for. She is rude to students and arrogant-though not very knowledgeable. Avoid her.
There was a lot of reading in this class; however, they were all interesting children's books that once I started reading, I couldn't put down. The read alouds were well worth the time, and they weren't difficult whatsoever. I enjoyed the class, even her long stories.
Worst professor I have ever had! The class itself is pretty easy, but you won't learn a thing and you will leave every class feeling like your time is being wasted. The worst part of this class is Prof Schneider herself. She is constantly making discriminatory remarks about groups of people and about students in the class! AVOID!
She isn't the best prof by any means, but I have had much worse. Can be very rude and will tell crazy long stories that don't even matter. Doesn't explain assignments clearly but if you put hard work into them, you will be fine. You won't know how you are doing till the end of the semester-she NEVER posts grades. Try to take another prof if you can.
Dr. Schneider is an amazing lady! She is super encouraging and engaging! She is passionate about her work and teaching! However finals projects and what is excepted in unclear. Don't stress however, jut be creative, that's all she wants to see! Also seriously read all of the books! It will help with pop quizzes and portfolio! I totally take again!
Professor Schneider was not my favorite. She was unclear with what she wanted. She would get off topic all the time with material that wasn't relevant to the class. If you asked for help, you wouldn't get a straight answer/explanation. She's a nice lady, but an average professor.
Worst professor ever. Attendance is "mandatory," but she doesn't actually take 10% of your grade off after 2 skips. Final grade was based off of one assignment a tutoring portfolio that she was very picky on. She gave us what should be in it the day it was due. Gives the same lecture over and over. Very unorganized.
I really enjoyed this class. She was very sweet and gave real life advice. There wasn't too much homework. Just reading and discussion.
I would rather pluck out my own eyeballs with my bare hands than have to sit through one of her classes again. Every second listening to her was spent wishing I could just reach inside my ears and tear out my cochlea. If education is meant to be enlightening, her class is a pitch-black abyss where dreams wither and die.
