Very hard. Doesn't count absents. Very nice and helpful but you have to work very hard.
Give alot of reading and work. You will think you're taking World Humanities instead.
If you are not interested in history, her class is certainly hard, but never unreasonable. She considers an improvement because I was graded more than I expected. I like how she talks... so soft and sweet (I am a woman). I liked her and her class.
she gives a lot of work but this is college guys. expect it. shes just making sure you learn. i had her in the morning and she always has a smile on her face. she loves history and tries to make it an enjoyable class with classroom activities and the like. if you have a problem she is willing to work it out. overall i think shes a great professor.
She gives alot of work for this class it should be a 4 credit class. Overall if you read the assginments and the book you should do fine. Her tests are essay exams. Make sure you give detail. She is nice but i dont think shelikes me becasue i give her italian thug look mayb i am one lol.
I just finished taking her final.(hard) If you are looking for a class to get an A forget about her. She give 3 paper a midterm and final. She is all about grammar. So if you are a freshman or lazy like me don't take your
I found the clas to be easy. The only problem was the papers and the reading. Lazy students should be careful if they pick her. Final was so-so, midterm was a bit difficult, although she told us what would be in the tests.
PURE UNJUSTICE!!
One of the greastest prof. if you like history. She is so nice and make it easy for you to understand the material. She gives second chances to students who get a C grade or lower so they can a better grade. She is fun and dynamic.Easy to get an A if you do the work and go to her class. A lot of reading but is like that in others wc classes as well.
A lot of work, broke my back over attandence and the history book is really boring, i mean like deadly boring!

I took her almost 4 years ago, and she was awesome. If you are lazy forget about it. If you are interested and participate and improve as the class goes along she gives you an A.
she is really cool. the work is easy for me to understand, and there isn't too much work at all. by now i would have done 2 papers for my classe at my old college. so far we only have done 1 in-class which was easy, and a take-home. it is a cool class
seemed like an easy class but when the final grades come, total shocker! Completely unfair and even with perfect attendance, A on paper and friendliness..still didn't help. Not even close.
teaching skills poor you muist eb on top of things on your own, syllubus is schedule to go cover to much in little time , bases garde on just midterm and final no negotiations.

The class is a core requirement not one for history majors. gave the most ridiculous assignments
i dont know what to say, i did all the homework and pass the midterm, sure i dont know the final, but i think not bad, and i come to her class everyday, but she gives me a c-. besides, its a very boring class, if u dont need it, then dont take it
Good teacher.

if she likes you, you do really well. if she doesn't, sucks for you. at first it seemed as if she hated my guts and so i didn't think i'd get a high grade in the course but then things turned around as i started to pay more attention in class, ask questions after class, etc. at the end i got a good grade and im happy =)
She is great. If you are interested in history - you'll find this class great. She knows her history, she can discuss lots of topics that you have interest in. She actually gives you a chance for a make up. Just be sure to pay attention, occasionally ask her questions, do the reading and be there always - and you'll do great.
she loves greece history and does not keep it a secret, seeing that she ties it into any topic she teaches. class is not incredibly hard but ull do well if she likes what you write and agree with her. get on her good side by participating and showing (faking) interest in the class and ull get the A.
Great professor. She knows the material and enjoys teaching it. There is a lot of writing required, but I found it to be enjoyable and easy. Participation helps you out a lot and I would not recommend skipping a reading, although she covers most of it in class. I would be willing to take another class with Professor Syrrakos.
She loves history, she is the best!! do your papers is need it to pass the class
I don't really like her. We have to read 5 books plus the textbook, 3 different things online. So many reading.. I didn't catch up, so I drop it. She is nice and has this sweet voice.
Take her!!!She is very knowlegable about her history. We only had to write 2 of the 4 given papers and she offers 2 extra credit papers(if you do the paper, you get the extra credit). take notes in class, it's the info in the book but just summarized for importance. If you receive a grade you don't like, talk to her and she'll change it.
Professor Syrakkos is an excellent professor. Her love for the subject matter really shines through in lecture. There is a ton of reading but if you are not lazy and are wiling to participate in class, you should do fine. The exams were essay based and there are a few written assignments including film based short essays for extra credit. Take her.
Incredible teacher. Very sweet, and BRILLIANT. She knows everything. She teaches with simple words and a beautiful tone, makes you remember highschool, doesn't use big words an doesn't complicate anything. DO THE WORK and you will learn so so so much. She is truly amazing, one of the best teachers I've ever had. Also very understanding if utalk2her
Really easy class, though can get really boring without class-wide discussions. Each class was basically a haphazard summary of the reading (which is "mandatory" and extensive, but not necessary to do well in the class). Exams are in-class essays (choice of topics) and the final is at-home on the topic of your choice! she's very nice outside class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The material she discusses is all over the place. There are weekly essay quizzes on chapters from the textbook with way too much info to cover. The discussions are boring. I loved history before this class.
Wow! I am shocked to see so many negative reviews. I took her class Fall'09 and I am not big on history but she actually makes the lectures interesting because she's so passionate about it. You have to read and do assignments though, that's a MUST! Attendance is also mandatory, so if you are lazy and like to skip school i recommend you take another
I must say she's a really nice lady! Really lenient about grading; however she's really strict with the quizzes you MUST read the book inorder to do well on the quizzes. Theres a total of 6 quizzes worth 20 points each! NO midterm or final just 2 papers to do and a city paper which will be a research paper! She actually makes history fun! Take her!
She is a very kind, caring professor. She is knowledgeable about the material she teachers, and it is clear that she loves it. The class discussions are stimulating. She is a tough grader but she will break down your papers with you to show you what you need to do to get an A+. There is a lot of reading, but she wants you do do well. Take her!
She's really sweet. either pay attention in class or read the textbook, both aren't necessary to get an A. She does give weekly quizzes on textbook reading before discussing it though but because of these quizzes theres no midterm! Choice essay final.
She is a nice lady, but you have work hard for your grade. She expects you to participate and come to class on time 20% of your grade. she gives a research paper that total 10 pages... 40% of grade. her test are no extremely hard if you take notes and read her slides on blackboard 40%. I got an A in the class you could do it too
she can be really nice, but don't let that fool you. you have to work for your grade. just participate in class and be on time. her assignments require thinking, but sometimes it's obvious, so don't think too hard and dont be afraid to be blunt in your essays.
Don't buy the textbooks she assigns. Try to get them from the library or online but don't buy them. She only uses parts from them and it's money-wasting. Otherwise, nice professor. Good discussions, but could use some fine tuning in keeping class interest. The papers were misleading at times. She and her partner need to work on specifiyng its aims.
she is the best teacher ever!!!! she is awesome, nice, and sometimes strict take this awesome class and u nt be stupid anymore
She is great, takes pride in her work, she gives reviews for exams, all around awesome
I had her for Food&Farming. The class was really boring. There was a lot of assigned reading and makes us discuss the books.I was excited to take this class, but i ended up just feeling bored all the time. Unless you like talking agriculture-economics-history, then this class is for you. (I needed the HIST credit so i didn't drop or i would have)
Very animated and theatrical professor, she knows her stuff and expects a lot from her students. amazing class if you are into history but if not it will be challenging. tons of reading and papers are worth a lot. she does try to bring fun interaction into the lecture. lecture is posted online and she provides two packets (books)Goodluck!
she is the best teacher possible you should take this class it is very interesting and amazing she is awesome
She is a very nice professor. I take her European History class for FIQWS this semester. At first, I felt this class was a little difficult for me because I am a immigrant student, but I felt professor Syrrokos is really kind to me, and everybody in the class. This helps me feel relax and enjoyable in her class.
Amazing pofessor who respects students and takes pride in her work. As long as you pay attention in class and do at least some of the readings, you will get an A. There are 3 papers you must complete and the last one is usually the toughest.
Syrrakos is one of the best professors I've had. She's very clear on what she expects from you. There are in-class writing assignments, papers, and tests. Not many, but a decent amount. If you study the material, and put some effort you'll pass. Her lectures can be pretty long sometimes. In addition, she's very friendly & helpful!
She's really good. Its easy to understand her and her classes are awesome.
Really sweet and understanding professor. Her lectures are pretty clear, just pay attention and you'll get an A.
Really nice professor. Work load is heaviest in the beginning of the semester and becomes light towards the end. Only two exams, midterm and final. Just write about Hitler for my exams. The class is pretty easy as long as you pay attention in lecture.
I think this was Prof. Syrrakos' first run at an online class. An although there was many papers, because this was the first time, she was willing to work with us and reduced the amount of required papers. She is planning to improve upon the course for the future online classes she does. Overall really good!
Even though I took this class online, this has been one of my favorite classes so far. Maybe it's because I like history, but nonetheless, she's a great professor. There are no tests; however, there is a weekly (participation required) discussion board and a weekly two page paper due, all on Blackboard.
Although I took this class online, this has been one of my favorite classes so far. Maybe it's because I like history. Nonetheless, she's a great professor. There are no tests; however, there is a weekly discussion board post and a weekly two page paper due, all on Blackboard. She was always accessible through email.
Although she is good she does not answer emails on time or feed back
Don't take her, not worth it. Its my first time taking an online class and im thinking at least this class wont give me a headache, total opposite. I spent more time doing her homework than any of my other classes for a bad grade. She does not give redos and says she will round everything up, but lies. This brought my gpa down so much.
Weekly essays (of the 2/3 options given) and weekly discussion post. I honestly, did not do much reading. I found which one of the weekly readings corresponded to the question. It was 10 out of the 12 essays, however she became overwhelmed and made it 8. At the end she rounded grades up! I think our semester just got lucky! Went from a B+ to an A+
I hate this class. There is no direction on how to study for her exams. She expects so much out of an entry level introductory class. We have to write essays on god knows what topics and we are not even allowed to have outlines not sure how she expects us to know over 100 pages worth of material + supplemental reading. THIS CLASS IS HORRIBLE! RUN!
Really cool professor. She's really enthusiastic about European history and it reflects in her teaching. There are honestly not many things to do in terms of graded assignments. My class had about 5 online quizzes (one of which was dropped) and a single research paper. She takes attendance seriously so don't be absent or tardy too often. Take her!
Predominantly focuses lectures based on the textbook, does incorporate outside articles. Exams open book on blackboard, really good for Modern Europe
She's really nice and sweet, the subject can get pretty boring though. There is not much memorization, it's mostly about writing, and as long as you write well and prove your arguments, you will likely get a good grade. You will need only half of the books listed, and aside for a couple (her choice) they will be used solely for discussion purposes.
This semester she calmed it down. No research paper. Just listen and take notes in class. Some required books. I never read the main book (too much unnecessary detail imo), I just read or watched videos online. I guess I got lucky, but try to read and study. It was a rough start in the first half. End of class quizzes on notes every now and then.
Great Professor. Really enthusiastic about the subject matter and I learned a lot from the course.
Wonderful professor! You can tell that she really loves european history and she makes it interesting. Definitely the professor to take for modern europe!
She is genuinely a great person, she obviously cares about modern European history. However, she is really a tough grader and make you work for your grade. If you dont mind reading 20+ pages per chapter then go for it!
She is a nice professor, but judging on how she setup the course, it is hard to grade her great. First, her directions to the papers are really vague and only have one sentence that could just answer one sentence, but she wants 2-3 pages. Second, I don't learn much from the class, and she is constantly talking and even talk off-topic. So be aware.
She doesnt no how to lecture or teach. She only assigns a few assignments through out the semester but you have to do a whole bunch of readings. 4 books- 2 are required the other 2 are optional PLUS she giving you really thick packets with other readings as well. Youll be lost the whole semester cause she doesnt know how to stay on track.
You're not graded by much, a handful of short 2-3 page papers, 2 major exams, and 1 research project. You'll learn a fair amount. She sometimes gets side-tracked but she's a passionate lecturer. Warning: she's a harsh grader when it comes to your writing but if you consult with her first or go to the writing center, you can avoid some of it.
Syrrakos is a nice woman & knowledgable but nothing more. Syllabus changes every semester. For fall 2019, 3 papers and 2 in-class essays for midterm & final made up our grade. I sat in class not knowing what it was I was supposed to write down or review. Very much all over the place; not clear with directions. Would NOT recommend.
If you choose to take this class, you will have 3 papers, 1 midterm, and 1 final throughout the semester. You need to buy the textbook as there are weekly readings. Dr.S also gives a huge course packet without side readings along with the chapters assigned.
Most, if not all, of her classes are delivered via giving lectures. She forbids the usage of technology within her class, so you cannot take digital notes and rely on handwritting it. Thus, if you're not the type to do so you would want to avoid this class. But otherwise, it's what you would expect in an average college class.
Provided textbooks and readings. 4 short papers and 6 discussion posts to do. She is a nice professor but she also a tough grader and makes her prompts incredibly vague and pointlessly long. Didn't feel like I learned anything and she is not very clear on what she wants. This class was not for me and I would skip on her if given the chance again.
She is a nice lady don't get me wrong but I would recommend her. She doesn't responds to the emails and she is a really tough grader. Theres a lot of readings as well and its not that easy of a class. I personally wouldn't take this professor again.
She is extremely nice, helpful and understanding to students but this class was hard. Her lectures boring although she tries to make them fun. Hard to concentrate. Good explainer but a very tough grader. All the major assignments are basically essays and if you do well on them, you are fine or else you might struggle for a decent grade.
Prof Syrrakos is a good professor no doubt, she is a hard grader and is specific on what she wants in papers. You can still pass without doing those but your grade will be lower. The lectures are good and she is a very helpful person and respectful. She is passionate about history and answers all questions. This is a good class but prepare to write
Professor Syrrakos is a very nice lady, I have learned tremendously from her this semester. I recommend her especially to those who are majoring in history. The only downside is that she is a heavy lecturer, with no real discussion-based classes. Overall she is a gem and is understanding.
She is a good professor no doubt but she is a hard grader and is specific on what she wants in papers. You cant pass without doing those and if you pass your grade will be lower.
Great class! 10/10 would recommend for modern europe requirement
She won't give a grade higher than a B if her life depended on it, for an entry-level class she thinks we are Allan Poe or something. if you are looking for a 4.0 GPA avoid this class.
Although we had a lot to read this semester, it was worthwhile as my knowledge has definitely expanded on WW1. We had two in-person written essays (fair grader and allows a sheet of notes), a 8-10 pg research paper, and mini assignments (like one page responses). Overall wonderful Professor and truly a delight to be taught by her.
She is a true gem. Made modern European history so fun and engaging. I recommend her the most!
Professor syrrakos has an amazing passion for history and i love the way she teaches the lectures, however im a person who likes interacting and taking factual notes and she takes up 99.9% of the lecture to just speak. Her homework requires a lot of reading if its not ur cup of tea do not take this class. good teacher with a strict syllabus, 7/10
A lot of required reading, nearly one or two chapters a week. All the exams were in-class exams, two essays within 75 minutes. She had maybe three in-class quizzes which weren't difficult if you do the readings. Overall a good professor although she gets a power trip calling out students for nothing.
Good professor, u just need to do your work plain and simple, lecture heavy, paper heavy, cant pass class by missing it
Her lectures were okay. She might seem nice but a terrible professor. I had her back in the Fall 2018 Semester. The midterm was hard as hell. She is a very strict professor about students who interrupt her as well their attendance. She always had an attitude with me. She didn't even grade my final exam even though I believed it was awesome.
She is a delight! If you have a chance take her. She does lecture a lot, but her knowledge is so immense that you will learn so much from her. Graded by presentation, 1-2 short responses, two exams (open notes), and a final paper. Just communicate with her and participate and you will be fine.
Professor Syrrakos is amazing, although a little overwhelming with her lectures. I still recommend her if you are a history major. She makes modern European history so engaging with her rich understanding of Europe. The only thing I would say is that you have to work for your grade; just put in the effort and you will succeed.
Doesn't teach. Just spreads ideas about the given timeline and turns it from educating us into her own interpretations. Come on! If you want an asynchronous class and you want to come in each time we have a paper, this is your go-to professor. She is a cool person at least. When she talked about the French Revolution, I wanted to have one of my own
She's a good teacher, no doubt, but for those who don't like reading heavily every week, or don't do well in a lecture hall, this isn't the one for you. She is very nice, though, and is willing to help during office hours.
Her lectures felt like 3 hours sometimes, she was interesting and it was clear she knew a lot about the topic but went off-topic a lot. There are three main exams so you def have to work hard for ur grade. No homework, no BB. I'm not sure i would take her again.
Her WCIV class requires a textbook but you can find online, definitely should read the txt book! Her exams are written essays. She gave my class the prompts before but doesn't tell you which ones will be on the exam. Dedicated professor and cares about her students! Changed our final to a research essay instead of the written exam, went very well.
Dr. S is great! She is very passionate about european history, just make sure you do the readings as they are necessary for discussions.
Honestly, Dr. Syrrakos is the best. Although her lectures do feel more like a TED talk rather than an actual lecture, she has a lot of passion about European History. She is also very accommodating towards students based on their circumstances. I would definitely recommend her. Your grade is calculated through three exams and that's it.
She's a really good professor, just really picky with what she expects from us. I would still recommend her even though her instructions could be vague or we end up with something that she may not be looking for even though instructions are follow. Overall just make a class chat and you should be fine. You'll survive with her.
I took her class a couple years ago for one of my core requirements. I'm a STEM major so history is not my strong suit but this class was very accessible and I was able to get a decent grade. Doing the readings help a lot. Lectures will make a lot more sense. If you do well on the essays you shouldn't have much difficulty passing.
While her lectures may be heavy, they also contain a bunch of digestible information which you can follow. She does not assign homework, but instead assigns two essay exams and a project where you create a book report on any topic relevant to WWI. As long as you put in the work, she's a great professor, and she even shared apples on the last day.
Prof Syrrakos is passionate about European history. Her lectures are engaging, but the class requires consistent effort on readings and assignments. Unstuck study proved helpful for study prep.
The most kind and caring professor I've had yet, I'm currently in my second semester with her as my professor and I'd happily take her a 3rd, 4th, 5th time. Very caring and sweet, very passionate about the topic, and very immersive lectures. Very limited work, but the assignments that she does give are thought provoking and not a drag.
We had like two quizzes and I got a grade but she doesn't give feedback to know what you did wrong or what else she expected. She does grade pretty fast. Get ready to READ. Reading it's necessary for this class since it's based on readings and she likes participation. She doesn't really take attendance, for my class she has only done it twice.
Professor Syrrakos class is not for everyone, but if you enjoy history, and want to improve as a writer, I highly recommend it. Her grading is strict, and she can be very picky at times, but she is always around to meet with you and respond to your emails whenever you need. Highly recommend for history or polisci majors, not other majors though.
