Not bad.
organized, good class
He's easy. Just memorize his notes that he gives you and I can't see how you cannot pass his course. He's a cool guy!
Easy class, just study the notes and listen to his leture. Remeber to keep all your tests cuz for the final, it's off the previous exams.
Simply the best! Good at what he does, easy class. no way u can't pass his class like other comments juss study the notes and previous tests and quizzes! Also very funny :) his class is act fun the way he shows u examples and stuff it's cool.
Cool guy.. Fun class, offers tons of extra credit (up to 40 points). He definately knows the subject matter and his lectures are very simple to understand. Moreover, he hands out his own lecture notes so no note taking required! A+
I took this guy a year ago. He's a very good teacher. He made me laugh sometimes. This guy explains everything very clear and uses real world examples. Take his class!
I've taken 2 classes with Barry, this one and CIS10A. The classes are concise and interesting and he provides good notes that he expects you to learn. He is witty and sometimes funny, and very approachable. There's always opportunity for extra credit in his classes.
I took this class online, unless you have patience and are dedicated to reading, take this in the classroom. He's always willing to help and offers his office hours to assist, but unless you read and study well you won't pass. Tests were pretty hard.
He is a nice teacher. The material is not hard, so this course won't get very hard. He makes good explaination. Tests are not hard at all if you study his reviews and the textbook.
I took the course online. It was great. Easy assignments = easy points. This professor was always on top of his online class and you'll always know your grade. I already knew a lot about computers, so I might but biased, but I think if you put in a little effort, you'll easily come out with an A.
this teacher is a little prick. he takes his class a little too far if you are not interested in it at all. it's great that he has passion for his class, however, he needs to try to relate it to people and to try to understand that not everyone has the same passion as he does.
he was mean and if he did not like you no matter how good you did in his class you failed. He was not very understanding or kind. I have told almost everyone i know to stay far away from him
He is one of the coolest and easiest professors at mtsac. He posts up his lectures on his site and just covers that material. study the notes and you will ace the class.
he seems a little bitter
He provided all da notes on da internet, all u need to do is just study da notes and u will get an A in that class, very easy....
This class is easy. The first couple weeks might seems difficult, but later on you will used to it. All of his assignments are very easy. You only have to follow the procedure he gave. Just study in his class and u will be ok. This professor is highly recommended if u want an easy A. ^__^
He is a dork but very cool and very easy, but he favors women over men. You will learn alot.
i did the took the final project with him by myself, he is very reasonable, hard once you begin getting late things begin to accumulates, but he is a good teacher
assignments r easy but the quiz and exam difficult 4 me although i studied very hard! actually it's pretty easy class over all..
Sometimes it seemed that he tried to make the online quizes more tricky making the outcome of the quizes not necessarily reflect the knowledge to the student.
Very nice guy! He tries really hard to make students understand what he's teaching. Sometimes he tries too hard and gives too many examples, making you get lost... But just stay focused and don't tryto memorize everything he's saying just the concept... exams are a little hard than quizzes.. but overall the class was a piece of cake
I took the online class. Everything was straightforward and very easy. Barry's outline is excellent, just keep up with the quizzes and write-ups and you'll do great on the midterm/final. The workload is a little higher than other online classes I've had in the past, but everything was relatively easy.
Awesome teacher. Would take him again. His teaching abilities are sharp, very organized. Perfect liasion between the technical and the non. Every 3hr class was eventful enough to keep my attention.
He is the best computer professor, and he is very funny! His class is interesting, and he explains all material clearly. His study guide is very helpful. Have many quizes and exam but are easy. Take his class!
He is an okay teacher. His tests & exams are easy. He is a very nice guy, doesn't ever get angry. His class gets boring many times he just lectures forever.
A very nice guy!! He makes class worth it. He explains his lectures in ways you can understand better. he is not just that teachers that talks, he does actions so its easy to recall things from his lectures. quizes are super easy! and if you go over notes and terms (given) you'll get a high C or B. If you want an A, read.
Great teacher. Provides key terms, lecture notes, and review questions. You can get a high C or B easily, but if you really want that A, you got to read, and understand the material. It's not an easy A, but easy C or B.
Pretty cool teacher. You don't NEED to buy the text book since he has the main points about the chapter on his website and bases the quiz's off of that. If you want an A, you probably will want to buy the book though. I got a B in the class with out spending many hours studying. 1 Hr of studying a week is good enough for this class.
Great professor, explains everything there is about the class in his syllabus. His assignments are really easy gives you enough time to complete them. There's a few quizzes completely based off his ch. notes & the key terms handout. For the test if you want a perfect score READ the book! Received an 86% - B
Online class was a blast! Not hard at all to earn an A. He was quick to respond to an email which was very nice. Take this class at least online. Not sure how he is live! The book does help as you will need the information for future classes, plus it is really interesting if you are into technology. I would take more online classes that he teaches!
His online class was a lot of fun. He says it's a challenge but for me it was very convenient due to the fact that I have a family. Barry was extremely helpful when I needed help. His emails were returned promptly he would give you detailed info as far as due, finals, and other class projects. He's big when it comes to xtra credit.
This was a great online class. I didnt no anything about comp an it really helped me out. He gives study guides and chap notes an thats all you need to study. If you know that then you will for sure ace his test. Tests are not hard.
Nice guy but can be picky on spelling and grammar. Pay attention and participate! Team projects were interesting. Do not be late or be a flake for your team. Take good notes even though he gives you his notes. Stay organized and have fun learning! Take him, he is funny and challenging. I loved the extra credit before the exams, helped out a lot!
Took the 12 week class. It was pretty good and he lectures fairly well. One thing I did not like is group projects. He groups people together based off of your first test score to put smart people together, which is smart, but I didn't test well. I ended up with a poor group and it nearly screwed me. I got by with a B but still.
he's a good teacher...basically teaches as if you know nothing about computers. you do have to keep up and make sure to do all the lab assignments or else you won't pass. its not a cumulative class, each exam including the final are all on ONLY 4 chapters
professor andrews is great..
Lectures are right on track with exams. Delivers accurate data to help understand the topics needed to pass tests. Professor Andrews is awesome. Attendance is very important to him. Dont miss lectures or you'll miss good information.
GREAT professor! Turned me from a cyber-dodo into an aspiring geek in six weeks of CISB11. Gave us chapter notes, key terms, and tons of reminders of what's due when. If you can read and study at all, and willing to put in some effort, you should do just fine in his class. Very fair with grading and super helpful. I'm signing up for h
The Best Mt SAC has to offer in CIS.
Tried learning this stuff on my own and got a big headache; took Professor Andrews class - everything is crystal-clear. He really has a talent for teaching and turning dry technical info into a series of fun and fascinating classes. He helps you believe you can make it and presents things clear enough so you can.
Best Networking Professor in the Dept! Goes into detail, but makes it easy to understand! Labs are fun and Andrews uses his humor to make you understand the material. I am glad I took this course to reinforce my networking experience and to learn more! Networking is important part of the field and also when it comes to security!
Take this course if you have a few months of network experience. If you already have years, this may be easy for you. Overall prof is funny and cool. Lots of quizzes and 4 exams. If you really are up for a challenge, take Gau!
Mr. Andrews was an extremely helpful professor who knows what he is teaching and it is evident he wants you to learn and the assignments he gives are not real easy for all, but kinda fun and helps to learn the materials... I would recommend this class to anyone who wishes to understand the basics of computers, you will walk away understanding alot!
Took his class - passed Net plus... Not only was Professor Andrews thorough and crystal clear, he made Network+ study fun. Couldn't have gotten my certification without him.
Professor Andrews is absolutely amazing and very approachable. He is very clear on what and when the exam and quizzes will be. Be sure not to be absent for in-class assignment because you can't make it up (they are easy). Overall I highly recommend taking him whenever possible.
Lectures were very clear and in detail so don't miss class and be on time otherwise, you'll miss in-class assignments and quizzes. He's an easy instructor but gets a little nit-picky when grading assignments, just be sure you put your name the way he wants it on your paper from day 1. Holds your hand if you're technologically ignorant.
andrews is a good instructor. his lectures are solely based on his notes that he gives you in the beginning of the course. his notes sometimes refer to the book, but i wouldnt recommend getting it because the notes already cover everything you need to know. otherwise, this class is easy, just do all the homework and do all quizzes and tests
Not much to say other than he is the best. Very clear, patient, helpful... what more could you want? Take his class, he's great.
This is a great online class! Easy A if you put in just a little effort! I barely had to spend any time on this class each week. He is very clear and organized from the beginning and always reminds you what's due. Gives you long chapter notes so I never had to read the book. Midterm/final is fairly simple, just study the notes/terms. I got an A.
OMG i read the reviews and expected the instructor to be as easy going and helpful as listed. He turned out to be a nitpicking jerk. He commented on every question I asked and found something negative about it. After trying for the first few weeks I gave up asking questions. The quizes and exams were tricky. I do not recommend this teacher.
Not a difficult class at all if you have any experience with computers whatsoever, and if you read the book. He gives you the notes and study guides that make life a lot easier too. Just be on time, don't wait till the last minute to ask for help, or turn in flaky work and you will get a good grade - most of my classmates and I did.
If you do not have any prior networking experience, please take CISN11 class from Andrews! Nobody could explain things clearer, and he even makes it fun. Most of us who are doing well in Jim Gau's classes have Barry Andrews to thank for giving us the solid foundation to build on. Take his class; he is wonderful.
Took this class online, but it never felt like it was "Internet-only" thanks to the feedback and communication from the professor. Pros: The class very fun, pretty easy, transfers to UCs and CSU, easy A. Cons: I feel like I missed out part of the fun 'cause there were no class meetings; Barry Awesome's classes were meant to be taken on campus ;-).
Great professor! There is a study guide available he gives you at the beginning which made everything much easier. His quizzes are timed and require you to know the material to pass them. The lab assignments are easy and fun. I truly wish I would have taken this on campus, but overall it was a great class.
Woah, energy! Ok, he worked for Edison - as a backup power source? Seriously though, he's great. Can make network class feel like a show. Not bad to look at first thing in the morning either ;-) (He kind'a looks like a lighter version of Marc Anthony.)
Everyone told me to take CISB11. I thought this class would be easy but NO. Quiz are 25 question / 15mins ( Time per question is too short) And there are SO much HW!! Not as easy as I thought it would be ;(
Barry Andrews is a joke. He makes up stuff that is WRONG on the spot, directly conflicting his OWN booklecture notes ALL THE TIME. Anybody that says he is good simply doesn't know anything about the topic in question! He has NO GRADING CRITERIA, and will mark off points without saying why.
he is a very bad teacher. i taken many classes and never have i come across a teacher who likes to make fun of students who are trying hard. he did not make fun of me but i did see him do it to many others. half the class failed even though they did the work and came to class everyday on time. also, he is often wrong about the material...
He still uses paper eventhough he's a computer teacher. We don't use the computers nearly enough and all the homeworks are just memorization and multiple choice like any other boring class. Look for ross paz if possible hes the best cis professor on campus.
Don't take his class if you are planning to sleep behind the monitor - he'll lecture so loud it'll wake you up. He really gets into his subject, and his enthusiasm is contagious, so if you are not trying to become a CIS major, stay away or you might catch the hacker flu. He make his classes fun, Yes, it's also work. But good stuff all in all.
Really boring, made the class uninteresting. Rare use of computers. Take someone else.
Took this professor winter 2016. He gives a fair amount of assignments. There's a quiz for every 2 chapters (25 multi choice), one midterm and final (multi choice and short answers). No extra credit. He provides all the chapter notes and key terms (very grateful). Didn't need the textbook at all. Highly recommend this professor!
Took him winter 2016 online. He provides all the notes and key terms so the text book wasn't necessary. Exams are taken on campus; quizzes are taken online, however, what I didn't like was that he only gave 18 minutes for 25 questions. Assignments are all short answer questions or fill in the blank. Overall it was a pretty good class though.
Loved this class, great teacher who really cares about his students. gives extra credit before each exam and drops lowest quiz grade. show up for the lectures and study for quizzes and exams and you should be fine. he tells you everything that's going to be on the tests in his chapter notes but there's usually one trick question per test.
Had a very fun an interesting course with Barry Andrews as my professor. I would recommend to choose him as your professor if possible. Lectures are fun and interesting, he does his best to make sure everything is relatable to someone who does not understand computers. I would definitely have him as my professor again.
I took him long ago for online class. Thought it was ok... or maybe easy even. So not sure why people are rating him down for actually attending his class in person because I never met him. But his online course was pretty easy. Maybe because I'm already computer savvy. Shrug..
Awesome professor, his class is fun and easy. He makes things simple to understand for those who are not so tech savvy. The work that he gives is fun and interesting.
He really doesn't know what he's talking about half the time. He reads through the book and if you ask him any question that is beyond basic networking he freezes up. The following quote sums him up pretty well. "I wouldn't know how to answer that since I have never set up a router" He really shouldnt be teaching Networking let alone be head of CIS
I miss Andrews' teaching! He's very knowledgeable, but excellent with beginners. He gave me the confidence to change majors and pursue CIS. I would recommend him for CISN 11 as well; even if he reads from the book he makes sure you understand the concepts. Also, he doesn't overwhelm you with too much info. Challenging, but very doable.
Andrew's was a fantastic teacher. He explained everything clearly, but didn't make you feel incompetent. I wasn't familiar with the subject before hand, but now I code as a hobby. He challenges you, but it's not overwhelming.
Good! Took him for winter session and It was relatively easily if you put some effort in. Theres no bs online class discussion. Weekly assignment consist of questions that are easy to answer + lab, where you do codes or excel sheets. Theres 7 quizzes + midterm + final. Youd need a pc. Mac doesnt work well for the lab assignments that he gives.
Definitely not a light class. But you will learn A LOT! And the info you learn is so relevant to your daily life esp if you're in any computer major. I literally only studied his notes and never read the book and got a high A in class. Don't miss class, do all work, and study notes A in the class. Great lectures and great Professor.
He really does look like a lighter version of Marc Anthony. Also, he's a great professor. And the head of the department even. He had lots of energy and enthusiasm. Used lots of great analogies to make computing and networking concepts easy to understand. Gave us the notes we needed for the quizzes and tests. Even dropped our lowest quiz and test.
he is bad professor i ever had. he graded students zero points for cheating but there were answers on internet. he is terrible and graded without saying why.
Incredibly easy and fun class. I basically just read the chapter notes and did the review questions and got an A on every test. Responds incredibly quick to emails. Tests use proctorio.
This professor used proctorio which is fine. The issue I have is when he is assigning quizzes with 30 questions and only giving you 20 minutes to read them all , and it's not like its 30 T/F questions its made up of paragraphed questions. 20 minutes isn't even enough time to read everything so you end up guessing on most questions.
Youre forced to buy the 80+ dollar textbook. That textbook will be your professor because thats the only place to learn the information. Homework and labs are very easy, but you wont pass the tests unless you study. Every week has a quiz for that chapter, every chapter is about 3-4 hours long. Quizzes are 25 questions long with 15 min to finish.
He is a horrible professor. Sucks at teaching and takes off points for any little mistake in homework. Also doesnt communicate with students well. Very dry personality. He is the type of teacher that shows not to care for their students.
You learn a lot within a short period of time. This class will be easy as long as you put in the work! Sure quizzes are 15 mins long with 25 questions but if you study this should be no problem for you. You do not need a textbook because he provides materials that are enough for you to pass the tests. If you like computers this will be a fun class
I took this class during winter intersession so there are a lot of assignments due every week. As long as you read the notes/PowerPoints, do the module concepts, and review questions, you should pass this class.
Professor is extremely informative and gives amazing lectures. I learned so much in taking his class and as long as you read the notes and review questions you will pass every quiz and exam. The assignments are extremely easy because it's all in the notes provided by the professor. I'd love to take another class with him!
Easy Class. Clear lecture note. Energetic professor.
Given the course is only 6 weeks, multiple assignments are due w/ 2 quizzes per week and a biweekly exam. I find him to be a bit obnoxious with the grading, he takes off a point for every little thing and won't let you resubmit assignments even if the correction is made prior to the due date. No extra credit but the lowest quiz is dropped.
The amount of material you have to know and study on computers and technology is too much for an intro to CISB class. You need the memory of someone who built computers or a computer major because that's the level of memorization your gonna need for the quizzes and tests. THIS CLASS INCLUDES HONOR LOCK. Look that up if that's a problem for you.
All you need to pass quizzes/exams is to memorize the module notes which are probably 3-5 pages in length. Exams are 50q's/40mins, quizzes are 25q's/15mins, and proctored. Assignments consist of answering questions to a video, questions from the notes, discussions, or labs (which are easy). No "big"midterm or final exam, just regular ones u've done
Great lectures, not boring or too long at all. He is lively and cheerful. Explains topics very clearly and in a simple way. Quizzes and tests are easy, he provides summary/notes for each chapter which serves as a great reviewer. He willingly helps a lot during lab time so don't be afraid to ask for help.
He gives you pointers to review and also a lesson review for your activities, quizzes, and exams. In doing so, he expects you to be able to grasp all that or do your best to read. He doesn't give extra credit at all unless the class is failing or most of them have low grades. He is the reason why my GPA went down for a little bit.
He won't let you use notes for test. You need to log into proctor monitoring system to take exams. He must assume everyone is out to cheat. Basic class but tests/ quizzes can be difficult.
Professor Andrews made the class very interesting; every topic was accompanied by some form of assignment, which helped me comprehend topics better. Exams and quizzes were straightforward and I would retake this class.
If you got bad results on tests, you have opportunities to get extra credits. You can also negotiate with certain questions if you feel they're wrong. In my semester, he had a policy where if you don't attend an exam, he'll take half of your previous exam and use that as your exam grade.
Pretty straight forward, the class consists of regular assignments, discussions, labs as well as biweekly quizzes and monthly exams (he uses honorlock). As long as you get all assignments done and study the chapter notes you'll be fine. The work can kind of be a lot at times, so make sure to stay on track.
CISB 11 with Professor Andrews was easy. He gives out notes to study with. If you really study that note carefully you will get an easy A. There are some labs but it is easy and his instructions are clear.
Tests & quizzes are monitored with cam.
He is an inconsiderate person and a super dry professor. Uses Honor lock which isn't a problem but annoying. Doesn't trust students according to his syllabus. Took him online, Quizes and exams make up whole grade basically. If you have any personal problems or issues going on in life and need an extension, don't bother he doesn't care.
Professor Andrews' CISB11 class is straightforward, with clear instructions and resources like notes and lesson reviews. Exams and quizzes can be challenging, but staying on top of assignments and using tools like unstuckstudy can help you succeed. Worth taking if you're willing to put in the work.
I loved his class! the lectures, were clear and the homework was fairly minimal and easy to complete. The course is very lecture and test heavy which I tend to have a hard time doing, so I'd definitely recommend taking notes, studying the vocabulary, and using all of the recourses he gives. 10/10 professor Andrews was the GOAT.
Ive taken classes at 2 different 4 year universities and no intro level class has ever been this hard. Quizzes and test make up the majority of the class and they are unesecarily difficult.
