A lot of effort required
ok for an acctg professor
Pathetic. Very bad, very hard tests not related to class. avoid.
had to read book. not too hard.
He's great..encouraged me to become an accounting major! Good advisor too.
Horrible
Took him in the summer, he was too fast & exams are tough!!
Hard exams, doesnt help overall dont take his class
good teacher. do the homework.
do not take this class, hope you can understand his chicken scratch
Do the Homework and you are set. Easiest thing ever!
He SUCKS!!! test are hard and he doesn't teach well.
puts scribble on board, hard tests, need to do HW or you will do bad
home works are a must do them hes a real good teacher
ridiculously hard. doesnt explain anything. easy to hate.
Terrible, do not take, goes over homework in class, and tests is on other stuff
multiple choice test that are kind of hard, uses abbreviations alot, nice guy
Bad teacher, not clear, take someone else
Not Very Clear. Got an A b/c I had Acct background. Hard! Take different one
Gives worthless assignments, they are watse of time, screwed up grading
worst teacher i have ever had, does not explain anything, dont take him
dont take him, too many abbreviations, doesnt help you, hard class
got A but would of done if i didnt take it in hs,abreviates everything
goes fast but reasonable
Very easy and clear.Extremely helpful.Tests are based on homework and are pretty easy. Overall he's a great teacher.
He's a really nice guy!! BUT not a very good teacher... who knows what he's talkin about half the time...
get out while u can
Dr. Buchoff taught the 1st accounting class I ever had and recruited me into the accounting program. His class was hard but fair. If you put the study time in outside of class, you’ll do well and really understand what it is he’s trying to convey.
teaches class out of order and gives exams on material covered weeks before, system is screwed up. hope you have great study habits and a great memory...otherwise get the heck out of his class
he teaches this class like a review from day one and never originally teaches the material. steer clear of him!!
Nice guy but cant teach for if his life depended on it. he has horrible hand writing and abbreviates everything. some words that he says are unclear and sound like something else which only confuse u even more....DONT TAKE ACCOUNTING WITH HIM!
nice guy. bad teacher. remember Ben Stein lecturing a class in a monotone voice on The Wonder Years ? well thats what you should expect.
This guy flies and abbrevites everything and is not willing to help a lot and hwne he does you can't even understand him. Tests are impossible. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER
Barry is so laid back and cool, gives many days off, little homework, only morons fail this class. I easily got an A, left all the morons in my dust.
Just take another teacher if you want to learn anything. Seriously. Yes, he IS a nice guy, but he simply cannot teach.
nice guy but doesnt teach anything. class is a waste of time all he does is go over homework problems that he never teaches you how to do. if you dont do the homework you will have no idea whats going on and i guarantee that you will fail.
very nice guy, but not the most clear in teaching a new concept. if you take this class, you need to do the homework in order to understand what is going on.
I dont know why everyone is hating i think hes a great teacher, alot of homework but he rearly checks it. the tests are hard but if u read and do all your homework ur straight. i liked him
Is okay teacher. Nice guy. Pretty laid back. Goes over book page by page. Lot of homework, but has only checked it maybe twice. Tests easy if you do homework.
Good teacher, go to class and do homework - he'll help you any way he can.
Wow! Good luck! If you can read chicken stratch and abbreviations on a blackboard good then you are set. Get out ASAP
best option of horrible accounting teachers... take him, read the book, teach yourself... easy test... 25 Multiple choice, says he checks homework always forgets... bring a pillow to class
material isn't that hard, but he makes it hard to understand, doesn't know how to effectively teach, i read the book, but still had some trouble with his exams. i wouldn't recommend him.
nice guy but doesnt know how to teach. HWs very important doesnt teach only goes over home works try to respond in class as much as you can because then he'll like you. plays favorites with those who talk in class.Dont talk to him aftr cls he goes on&on
Try not to take him. He doesn't teach or go over hardly anything, and in this course this is imperative to do well and understand. To those who say he is a good teacher, try taking an upper level course with him instead of an already easy principles class
Do not take him! By far the worst teacher. The class is pointless because he can't the material teach. His notes are messy and don't even make sense. book is absolutely horrible so there was no help there either. Tests are impossible
Average teacher. Not that great. You cant read his chicken scratch notes on the board. Lets class out early. Doesnt clearify material that well.
I don't know how he is during the normal semester, but during the summer he was great. Basically HW is his explanation on acct, so do the work and you will do in the class. Is willing to help, and will ansewer question HW related. Lazy+ACCT=BAD
okay teacher. Don't bother copying notes from the board. Just do HW and read. Calls on everyone once almost every class. His tests are easy multiple choice.
You must teach yourself. All the class is is him reviewing the HW questions after they have been done, but again you must teach yourself how to do the problems because he covers the material after you do
Nice guy, hard class but he will help you with any questions, exams are straight forward, just do homework and its not too bad
I will clarify this...DO NOT TAKE BUCHOFF.. He is by far the worst teacher that I have encountered at Towson. HE moves incredibly too fast and doesnt extensively go over chapters. you will have to teach yourself, and you will learn a new chapter every other day in a 50 minute class.by far the worst
He doesnt teach u any material, its a teach urself class. If you can follow learning math from a book, you'll do fine. Going to class is pretty much pointless besides the fact he helps out with homework. Study the online quizes bf his tests
be prepared to teach yourself. his tests are multiple choice and are fair though. pretty nice guy. takes attendance. do your homework and you should have less trouble. notes are chicken scratch.
Very Nice guy, HORRIBLE teacher. If you have problems with the work he wont help you, but he will tell you to get a tutor. Dont learn anything in class and he doesnt teach.
Mr. Buchoff is a very nice, hardworking teacher. He is also not bad to look at. My only complaint is his incessant Dick Hertz jokes.
not clear at all, has very scattered notes all over board, doesnt teach... he always threatens to give pop quizes and collect HW but never does... hes a nice man though...
He will not teach you anything, you'll have to learn by the book. He curves pretty heavy too.
I totally agree with Prince Belavue, Barry is a total hotty and i go to class everyday to see his smiling face. I learned a lot in class and he was very willing to help me with other matters after hours. Its easy to get an A if you suck up him.
barry wont teach u anything but he's a nice guy and will help u after class if u need it. be ready to teach yourself everything. tests r 50 mult. choice and are not impossible but u def have to study to do well. if u suck up, ur gauranteed at least a B. oh and homework is a must if u want to do well
Nice guy, hard class but he will help you with any questions, exams are straight forward, just do homework and its not too bad
Can be confusing if you are not focused. very nice guy and helpfu too.
VERY UNCLEAR AT TIMES. DOESNT REALLY TEACH, JUST GOES OVER HOMEWORK PROBLEMS. ONLY TAKE IF THERE IS NO ONE ELSE.
LOTS AND LOTS OF HOMEWORK, DOESNT TEACH AT ALL JUST GOES OVER YOUR HOMEWORK, READ YOUR BOOK MANY TIMES IF YOU WANNA PASS!!!!
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
very difficult class, but buchoff attempts to make you understand. way better than maloo! 3 tests, and 1 project. hmwk given every night but only about 3 prob. and he never checks it. take over maloo is all i have to say

You will have to teach your self pretty much everything. Make sure you participate in class and he will like you. The class is really not that bad. 3 tests, 50 pts for attendance and participation and the easiest 50 pt project you will ever have. The project is just a normal hw problem that u type up on the computer. A B is very possible.
He is knowladgable about subject but can not teach well. He is not that haard and his tests are multiple choice if you study from problem survival guide you will be ok. 3 tests 1 30 points project and class participation 70. as logest as you teach yourself you will be ok.
Knows a lot about accounting but has a hard time teaching it. Nice guy, willing to help...assigns alot of hw but your best bet is to just suck it up and do it, then go ask for help.
u have to teach urself everything
Not a great professor. Luckily the book is somewhat clear because that is what teaches me. All he does is go over homework which isn't always helpful because you can't understand his writing on the board. His test are difficult especially since they are multiple choice. He doesn't collect hw but his final is cumulative.
i love when he calls role. For Ex: when he says Ahhhhhhh
No Comments
He is very knows about the subject. Most of your learning is on your own threw reading and homework. Website the book gives you helps too. All tests are multiple choice and their are only 3 tests total including the final. Checks homework very little but will happen once or twice.
He knows everything there is to know on accting, just has no idea how to teach it. All he does is go over homework. He can't explain things well at all, very hard to grasp. In order to pass you are going to have to teach yourself through the book.
Accounting is one of those courses in which reading the chapters is actually necessary to pass the course. Don't expect to learn half of the material from Buchoff's notes. His notes will guide you in the right direction and tell you what to study. I recommend him.
Not a big fan of Acct. Def alot of work and you need to do alot on ur own.Need to read the book and all he does is go over hw problems.nice guy and pretty good with grading. can get C's on exams and do all hw and still pass with a B if u do well and show up to class.takes attendance every class.
DOESN'T ACTUALLY TEACH.This teacher was so unclear in everything that he did. Had chicken-scratch for handwriting and thought he was the worlds funniest commedian. He would never make it clear as to what you were going to be learning and from what chapter or section of the book. If you don't ask questoins you'll be lost forever. I failed the class.
This class was so boring. I had to hold my eyes open to stay woke in class. All he does is go over the homework, so make sure that you do your homework. Try to study and ready alot and you will definitely pass with a high grade.
As a accounting student, I will have to say he is one of the better professors. He is a nice guy and very helpful.
Took him over the summer. Nice guy. Was a lot to learn in a few weeks, but he did his best. Just a hard class
one of the better teachers in the accounting program.. I took him over the summer so it was alot of info in a short amount of time but he did a good job of teaching it. nice guy, easy enough to pull a B if you do all the homework and study.
This guy just does not care. plain and simple. if u have him for a 50 minute class he will get there 5 minutes late and let u out at least 20 minutes early. hw is imperative to success. i dont know how u can fail. the secret is to stay in class no matter what u get on tests. i know people who have goten a 45 and a 55 on boths tests and got a C!!!!
I had him for both 201 and 202. Easily got a B in 201 with little effort. Got a C in 202, but tried very hard. He is a very nice man and is willing to help you at office hours. In front of the class he seems lazy and doesnt care, but if you get to know him you will realize he is very nice and does care and doesnt want his students to do bad.
He is straight forward with stuff on the tests, you just have to do the homework.
Prof. Buchoff was not such a great teacher - plain and simple. He was very confusing in the classroom and unclear as to what information would be on exams. I would not recomend taking a class with him. However, that being said, he is a friendly man who makes funny remarks, often unintentionally, which makes a boring subject tolerable. If you do not
Well, he doesnt teach you. READ the book. Skims the pages in class and goes over HW. MUST do hw to survive. Slight curve i believe ALWAYS get out early. Takes attendance. Took as a summer class, supposed to be 3 hours 2 nites a week... stayed for, an hour year class. Class is boring. Easy project. Stick it out, you'll pass. Doesnt fail anyone.
I took both classes with him and it was pretty easy i did my homework, the study guide, the one project, and participated. Sounds like a lot but i got an A in both classes!!!!
This is a good professor who is willing and available to help you but if you plan to succed in the class (B or better) you have to earn it. also you have to do the homework, the class is taught by going over homework!
Prof. Buchoff was the best teacher that I have had all semester. He explains everything and he doesnt normally collect homework. His tests are easy also, but you just have to study. He likes for everyone to participate and you could get a good grade. I would recommend him for any first year accounting student to take!!!
I worked pretty hard in this class and did pretty well with a B+ I slacked off on the second exam and it hurt my grade alot and Iwasn't able to bring it back up to an A. Great instructor requires you to come to class on time and do a couple homework problems every class.
you have to read the text book BEFORE you go to class. He teaches the classes with the assumption that you have read the material, so if you dont, you will be lost. By the end of the semester I had read the whole book. I do not mind learning this way, so I liked him. If you do not like to learn this way, I would take another teacher.
im a stickler for speaking eloquently, and he speaks horrible. he knows what hes talking about, but doesnt exactly know how to convey it to his students he definately wants you to read the book, tests are pretty hard, available to meet and clarify things overall i would say dont take him unless you are good in accounting
do not take!
Very hard class never teaches just goes over hw have to do hw test are nothing like what the book hw is and the test are very confussing
Great Proffesor and good guy, he teaches through the problems in textbook, if you dont do the Homework and read text you will have no idea whats going on. i know alot of my class mates had trouble but i feel they really werent keeping up with asignments.
Tests aren't too rediculous, and 2 questions are built in for extra points. May curve one test. Good class, everything was explained fairly well. Hard subject though.
i can't believe there aren't any comments for this guy. he's a complete joke, doesn't explain anything well, jumps around alot, definitely avoid him if you can! id recommend charles martin
this man is completely useless. You might as well just buy the textbook and teach yourself. Avoid him, he will think he is helping you but he doesnt answer the question you asked him. This man should be fired!!!!!
This man is a B**CH do not take him, avoid at all cost, anyone else has to be better than him
Very fair and not too hard. class consists of reviewing homework problems and summarizing the new chapter. Tests are multiple choice and not difficult if you do the homework and read the book. I actually enjoyed the class.
homework assigments are different from tests. You pretty much have to teach yourself. his tests are all multiple choice. He does not go over any reviews before the test. He DOES NOT let you keep you test so you can study off of. I found it difficult.
VERY HARD CLASS! half my class dropped out! hes a nice guy and somewhat funny, but he doesnt teach, he just talks about concepts. accounting isnt super hard but he makes it that way. do not take him!
He is a good professor, test are multiple choice, and if you have any problems, he is available during office hours and will go over any and all questions or concerns. If you are not determined to read the text and complete homework assignments then you will fail. That pretty much goes for all ACCT classes... Good Luck!
Barry is such a nice guy it just suks that he can't teach. Buchoff has this idea that were all accountants and we already know all of the concepts before class. His handwriting is abismal and slanted, 3 exams r rediculously hard,n class consited of him going ovr the previous days hw thats it. U either have teach urself or FIND A NEW TEACHER.
Pretty straight forward. Friendly teacher, enjoyable class, makes the material relevant, tells you almost exactly what you need to do. My only issue was sometimes I felt the test questions were on things I wouldn't have thought I needed to know, but it's not bad enough to ruin a grade. Go to class and study some and you'll do great.
I thought this class was an easy A. As long as you read the text before class like he tells you to do you will be fine. The tests are all curved 10% and they arent even that difficult, they are usually on the basic stuff. Both tests and the final are multiple choice. I would definitely recommend taking him.
Buchoff is a nice guy, but does not make accounting concepts easy to understand. Pretty much have to be able to teach yourself. I guess it wasnt that bad of a class, just not very clear. And his handwriting is terrible, hard to follow what he writes on the board.
Does not really teach. Just goes over the homework. Study really hard for his tests. READ THE BOOK. I can not stress this enough! The book teaches you more than his class does. Hard to understand what he does some times so just follow the book. He ends his night class early though and he really is a nice guy. Office hours are bad though.
Half of my class dropped after the second exam. Never curved. Talks to you like you already know the subject. Horrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Buchoff is a great teacher. Very fair grader. The first 2 tests are multiple choice and short answer. The final exam is all multiple choice. Tests are easy if you study.
Terrible teacher, just goes over HW every class, and writes chicken scratch on the board to explain new stuff (which you'll have to teach yourself anyway). do the HW though(not collected)- it will help for exams. exams are 20 m.c. ?s. they're pretty hard, curves by adding 2 extra credit questions and sometimes another 5% curve. lets out an hr early
He comes in late all the time & lets you out early. Then he doesn't teach but instead simply goes over the HW. I did all my HW yet could barely pass the tests. Right before the drop deadline I had a D in the class & he told me I was doing great and to keep trying! I'm an ACCT major; I need a C in the class! Needless to say, I withdrew.
just go by the book; dont take notes in class just read the book
I would say Professor Buchoff is an above average teacher. Hes a nice guy and is generous with curves. Also, he gives easy homework and attendance points. However, his lectors arent too clear and the class is based around homework. Mostly i just end up teaching myself
Just be prepared to teacher yourself accting. checks hw VERY randomly, so always do it. Puts a built-in curve on tests, but still def. STUDY! tip: use multiple choice quizzes he puts online to study, very helpful.
Awful professor, writes chicken scratch on the board. All he does is go over homework and if he sees people correct their hw, he just asumes no one did it at all and collects it and grades for accuracy [100 if its right, 50 if you atempted semi-sucesfully, 0 if you didnt hand it in] he isn't very pleasant to talk to during class.
hard you learn nothing durring class. do ur homework or you will be lost. u can't understand anything that this guy writes on the board. teaches the class like everyone is a accounting major
He was so terrible I dropped the class.
This is the worst teacher. Nice guy but incomprehensible handwriting. Doesnt teach and all he does is go over hw. I went to tutoring and still witdrew. Terrible jokes too
Accounting requires studying. You must do all the work in this class. I did and got an A. He's not a bad guy. These other people didn't put in the time - Guaranteed....
I agree with the last commenter. If you studied, you would have no problems passing his class. I heard similar complaints about him back when I took his class in the mid-90s. Some things never change. Students don't pay attention and then blame the professor when things don't go their way.
If you review the chapters you can pass. I never paid attention in class partially because the way he looks and talks pisses me off. But his tests were not all that hard if you taught yourself the stuff. Kinda sucked.
You people are so lazy! You had to do homework to understand the material? Welcome to college. I put in the time and did all the homework and EASILY obtained an A in the course. Whenever I had questions Prof. Buchoff was glad to take the time to help me out. This guy knows his stuff. I changed my major from FIN to ACCT after taking this class.
It is a really good professor if you really want to learn sth.You need to do homework a lot and be at class on time. A really inspring teacher, nice to people who works hard and very helpful. But if you just want to take an easy class and do not want to do homework, choose for someone else.
I do not recommend this teacher. He is nice and jokes around but I did not benefit from his teaching style. He has you read the chapter and do the homework and then that's it. He doesn't teach you. He just goes over the homework that you already learned yourself. Attendance is mandatory and homework is sometimes checked for a grade.
He is a very nice guy and very helpful. If you participate and do your homework you will do fine. He loves when people get involved in the material. HW is graded when no one participates. Exams are fair. You need your book everyday for lectures and HW.
Nice guy but horrible teacher. Handwriting the most ghastly sight I have ever seen. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I also went to tutoring and still had a hard time.
Took the intro to ACCT- forget the number... boring class, didn't learn at all from the prof which was fine with me but if you don't keep up on homework you're f-ed. I go to class to go over homework and get the new assignment and then stare into space... on the upside never held us more than an hour... possibly didn't know it was 2-3:15???
forces you to do homework
Attendence is mandatory and he collects the homework if nobody is answering his questions in class, but overall he is more interested in you passing and will explain the concepts for each chapter.
This is for my major so I got a tutor and am still having trouble. He assigns homework, we go over it in class quickly and no throughly and he doesn't explain anything. Do not take this class. Nice guy, means well but cannot teach.
Buchoff IS GREAT! Class is not harder than anything other accounting class, he goes over all HW. Test aren't long... Just not a hard professor... very nice guy too! I highly recommend him... Lets you out early on sunny days!
HORRIBLE! He cannot teach anything since he seems more intersted getting out as soon as possible than actually teaching. He runs through all the material, expects you to do all the homework (every week) which you basically have to teach yourself. He cannot write properly on the board so you can't at least catch up in writing. I regret taking him!!!
I had him years ago in my first semester, and now I'm at the end of my senior year. In retrospect, the experience was quite useful for developing a basic understanding. He's not hard, you're just stupid. So was I back then, but I built upon what I learned from him and found it to be extremely useful. His goal is to teach, not to give grades.
Don't take this guy!!! He's nice but not a good teacher. He doesnt teach, he just goes over the HW. You cant understand him or what he writes on the board! Theres not one person in my class that has an A or B, everyone is failing! The only good thing about the class is that he lets you out early for NO reason
While I thought he was a fair professor, I was not a fan of his teaching style, all we do is homework, in fact everything comes from the textbook. He does do surprise hw checks so be on your toes.
He is a very bad teacher. The people saying hes just as easy as the other teachers are completely wrong. His first test I got a 21% after going to tutoring in the library. The following semester I took the same class with Arundhati Rao and got a 91% DO NOT TAKE HIM
I've taken accounting 1 before and retook this class for a better grade. This guy is tough but his tests were easy and mostly multiple choice. I would never recommend this class to anyone though, he's just not a good teacher
Nice guy. He's just not a very good teacher, I would take someone else if I were you
Ha, all I can say is good luck...the guy is terrible, especially if you don't put aside at least 20 hours a week for this class
Welcome to Accounting World. If you want to succeed you have to study besides the class hour. He is a great professor. He curves a lot and he is always willing to help. I recommend him if you want to study and learn!
If you aren't an accounting major and don't have 30 hours a week to devote to this class, DO NOT TAKE HIM. He just goes over the homework. He reads through everything like you should be teaching the class. Avoid the inevitable drop.
Grade: Two 100pt exam, final is 200pts, attendance/hw/quizzes (10%?). For your FINAL class grade he gives +/- based on what kind of student you are. Nice guy, only take if you can teach yourself. Prepare for daily hw that takes 1-3hrs. Read chapters, do practice, do homeworks and you'll pass.Get to know him, participate, make sure he knows ur name!
25 points each for attendance and classwork, and 100 points each for 3 tests. ask for a test bank and you'll pass, otherwise good luck. there is a test bank floating around
DO NOT TALKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TO!!!! hardest teacher ever and doesnt care about the students. he has a monotone voice which makes class extremely boring. take any other teacher if you can. unless you already know accounting prior to this class, good luck trying to learn it in this class
Not clear at all. He talks to the class as if you know accounting. Goes way fast, basically a chapter a class. If you want an A you better study for at least 10 hours a week. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING THIS CLASS
Obvious he loves what he does which is so important. Great class to take if you've never taken trig. in your life but if your super awesome at math like me very slow because he explains it step by step. I feel bad for everyone just now taking the class. Your test are online!!!
He doesn't teach, class is simply going over homework. you have to teach yourself and the final is cumulative (and 50% of your grade) only reason i passed was because i took it in high school. other wise i would have failed.
He's a nice guy but I learned almost nothing in his class. If you have time to read every chapter in the book on your own time, go for it. All he does in class is go over the homework and occasionally review or go over a chapter. If you don't mind teaching yourself, he's the teacher for you.
Professor Buchoff was quite difficult. YOu really have to do all homework or you will fail. While he seldomly checks it, you will not do well on tests without it. He stresses that accounting has building blocks so if you do not understand Chapters 1-3 you won't understand 4-6. If you would like a teacher to teach you choose another
This class is by far the worst class I've ever taken in my college career. He isn't going to teach you a thing. So if you like teaching yourself by all means, this class is for you. Rarely checks hw by the way
He is an older man and a nice guy, but does NOT teach! He almost never checks homework, but to do well in the class...do the homework. You will have to self-study 100% if you take his class. I definitely do not recommend!
the worst!!!! always goes over homework and doesn't teach at all. He's constantly saying he's going to collect it but all he does is check attendance. dry sense of humor.
This class was not that bad. Boring, yes. Tests are multiple choice and he does curve. If you are not able to motivate yourself to read on your own then you might want to look for a different teacher, though.
He is a terrible teacher who never reviews the chapters and only goes over homework problems during class…. very unhelpful
He was just bad at teaching accounting. DO NOT take his class!
He quite possibly is the worst teacher i have ever had. He refuses to go over chapters, and he only goes over homework. I could have gotten the same grade by never showing up at class. Do NOT take a class with this professor.
It is not possible to teach everything in ACC in the amount of time we are in class. Prof. Buchoff will answer any questions you have. 201 is basic, the book is not even complicated. If you utilize office hours, tutoring, the book and the two online resources its not hard. Two tests are multiple choice possible 110/115 on each. Final tough (45%).
Loved him! He is very willing to help you understand. Teaches you through the homework. Tests are 20 mc questions with 3 extra credit questions. Would definitely take him again for accounting 202 if I could. This is accounting, you will not be able to learn unless you study outside of class which is why so many negative reviews.
Buchoff is a pretty good professor who enjoys teaching accounting. Make sure he knows you have a passion for it too, it will benefit you later on in the semester. Do the homework, it helps a lot. He teaches through it, so you will be lost as previously mentioned if you don't complete it. Teaches at a fast pace. Don't fall behind.
He's an awesome professor. Idk why everyone gave him bad reviews. Accounting isnt easy. You need to spend a lot of time outside of class studying if you want to do well. I got a 60% on the first exam and went to him for extra help. I finished with an A- in the class. I cannot stress enough how important it is to go to his office hours.
Excellent teacher with strong interest and knowledge in the subject. Able to answer any question if asked. Goes fast and the material is dense, but he is very helpful if you ask for it. Homework and textbook extremely important
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is the worst accounting Professor I have ever taken. He is also a jerk and favors the boys in the class. He thinks that girls can not be good at math and accounting. Avoid him at all costs. Take Rao if you can.
Try not to take him. Doesn't teach. Only goes over homework the entire class that you learn on your own from the book. Takes attendance every class. One positive is that all exams are multiple choice only. I didn't learn much and am retaking it with a better professor because I got a C. Do your homework because he will call on you for answers.
Worst teacher! Make sure you do your homework because that's all he goes over in class. Doesn't really teach so it's basically like a self study class. Try to avoid him at all costs
All of the negative reviews are posted by ppl who havent realized that U are the one thats responsible for ur own learning READ the book DO ur HW ASK questions about what u dont understand These professors arent here to spoon feed u the info this isnt highschool. Professor B is a great guy and cares about his students. This class is easy A take him
He says that reading the textbook and doing the hw problems will help you understand but for most students that is not enough. Acct is not an easy subject. He cares about his students but is not a great teacher. I ended up paying for an online tutor who was extremely helpful and was honestly the only reason why I ended up passing.
All professor Buchoff does is go over a few problems on the board. Most of his exam are computations. You will have to read the book to help you with the homework. Focus on the homework and you'll be fine. He's a great guy but you will have to do most of the work yourself.
Buchoff does not teach. He assigns chapters in the book and homework which he goes over in class. Unless you have high motivation to do well on your own time, it is hard to do well in the class. He is unclear but tries to help if you ask.
This is EXACTLY what you need to know. He doesn't collect homework on a regular basis, but he collects them randomly or when no one participates in the class. You HAVE to read to know your stuff and pass the tests. READ THE TEXT CAREFULLY cause the tests are relateable. He's there for you if you need help. If you're rly lazy, not the class for you.
I would not recommend this class. We get there and go over the last classes homework and get assigned more for the next time. Buchoff rarely actually lectures in the class and when he does he just reads from the book, which you have already done in order to do the homework. ACCT is hard enough and even harder with him. Does not curve.
I'm an average student and Accounting is definitely not my strong suit. I sat I front and tried to participate the best I could. I tried to complete all the homework assignments (he would do random checks). Bottom line is I should've failed this class but because he saw me trying I passed with a C.
Do you like homework every day of the week? How about thick, angry jewish accents? If you answered yes to one, or either of these, this class is for you! Dear God stay away at all costs. Class starts with going over homework, then he immediately assigns homework, and then class is done. Was a 50 minute class and i was never there for more than 20
He is one of the nicest accounting professors at Towson and for all the reviews of people complaining.. this class is an easy A if you put in the work yourself. You are in college and as you move into upper level classes the same will be expected.. that you put in time on your own.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! I took him and literally couldn't even get through the class I had to withdraw. If you're a reader, take this class. He doesn't teach all he does is go over homework that he checks every blue moon. If you have a question, he will make you more confused and then finish off by saying read the book. He should be fired.
I would not take him. If you know that you're not the best at math and you need someone to really explain things to you in order for you to learn, do not take him. You have to read all the chapters by yourself, take notes, and do the homework, which he rarely collects. He doesn't explain things clearly.
He is not bad. I took a 2h45min night class, was never there for more than an hour and a half. The course is mainly reading and memorizing new terminology here and there. He assigns a lot of extra stuff like summarizing articles, putting together your budget, checking your credit score... It all adds up and the exams are very straight forward
Save yourself and do not take this professor!! Keeps you in class for only 30 mins but only goes over the homework during class. Expects you to know accounting before you walk into the class, and if you don't you will not pass. Most of my class had to withdraw form the class because they were failing.
HE'S A TERRIBLE TEACHER ! NO SCRATCH THAT HE DOESN'T EVEN TEACH. HE THROWS YOU A LOB LIKE IN BASKETBALL AND EXPECTS YOU TO CATCH IT. HE JUST READS THE TEXTBOOK AND BOOM! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO KNOW IT ALL. HE DOESN'T COLLECT THE HW HE ASSIGNS HE REASSIGNS IT FOR THE NEXT NIGHT. HE ISN'T CLEAR ON WHAT HE WANTS. IT'S CLEAR HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO PASS
Imagine trying to hit a 95 mph fastball blindfolded; that's Buchoff's class. I dropped his class because it was the worst thing I have ever had to deal with in my life. He is not clear on anything, keeps you in class about half the time, and assigns homework without telling you what it is or how to do it. DO NOT EVER take his class.
I took a beginner's accounting class and he taught the class as though we already knew accounting concepts. Concepts were left unexplained or they were explained poorly. There was homework every day that we had no clue how to do because we did not understand the material.
If you are a beginner then you will have some difficulty learning the concepts. I wasn't so I was okay until I stumbled on concepts that I never learned in high school. Homework is a must; it helps you understand. I got the digital and physical textbooks. Powerpoints are on companion website. Digital had many helpful features. Rarely collects hw.
This is what you do for Buchoff's class, you read the book like an actual book and study from that because he barely lectures, only goes over the homework (that you should also do because he will randomly collect.) If you memorize the chapters in the book that the test will be on you will get an A because test is just like the book.
The accounting book for this class has a website. Most of his tests are literally copy and pasted from the website practice questions. Never got less than a 95% on a test. Three tests that are already online. How much easier can it get? Do the homework he assigns and you'll get an A. He even helped advise me on my classes and I took him twice!
You have to seriously ask questions and get him to break things down if you don't then he will keep moving forward. If your not the type of student to actually study and read the chapters then you will not pass the class. He collects homework randomly and takes attendance EVERY class. I ended the class with a C.
Buchoff is one of the nicest teachers at Towson. Unfortunately we have to read and teach most units because he really just goes over hw in class. I had a C entering the final and got a B+.
worst prof I've ever had. doesn't teach AT ALL, which is impossible for this being a first exposure to accounting for many. you are told to read the book and do the homework and come prepared. all he does is very quickly go over it and write notes on the board that only he can read. avoid him.
Very nice guy, but not a great teacher. You HAVE to read the chapters and do the homework assignments or you will get behind in the class. Once you are behind in the class it is very hard to catch up. He takes attendance every class and collects homework randomly. If you go to him for help and knows you are making an effort he will help you out.
Read the text! Buchoff is adamant about the HW's; they're essential to understanding material. And b/c class is 50 mins, there isn't much time to thoroughly explain concepts. For a struggling student, I would recommend visiting the tutoring center asap if you're completely lost. And voice to Buchoff your concerns, he'll take it into consideration.
Would not take this professor again. Just reads off definitions, does not go over how to preform accounting things like balance sheets, statements of cash flow, etc. Be prepared to nee to do a lot of reading and self teaching. The book isn't the greatest resource either, it does not go into specific detail about how to preform basic accounting.
Probably the worst professor i have ever had. He doesn't really go over any examples on how to do anything so you are going to have to teach yourself. Would definitely NOT recommend to anyone.
I've taken ACCT 201 and ACCT 341 with Buchoff. This is not a hard class if you approach it the right way. Read the textbook and do the homework's before class. That's it! His tests are not hard at all if you read and do the homework on your own. Not nearly as bad as this page makes him seem. Got an A in both 201 and 341. If I can do it, you can too
I am an accounting major and I took this professor last semester. I basically taught myself the course and spent hours on reading, outlining the chapter, studying and completing homework. His lectures are boring and unclear. Very random in his teachings and not very helpful. Tests are multiple choice and graded within good time. Final is hard.
This was single-handedly the worse course i have ever had to endure. The tests are incredibly hard and Buchoff goes through the slides extremely quickly. He does not even teach, He lets you out early every single class. If you want to take a class where you have to teach yoursself how to be an accountant this class is for you.
If you take this class you will be teaching yourself by reading the book front to back, it's like as if you didn't even get assigned a professor because you are your professor. Buchoff is a nice guy, but a terrible professor. Do not take him or you will struggle from day one. I attended class only to get a few extra points he gives for attendance.
Honestly speaking, Buchoff lectures from the PP that goes along with the chapters. Some may not like that way of teaching. You going to be good from Chap 1-7 after that it will get challenging. Do the homeworks, before tests STUDY the practice tests on the student companion site and go over past hmw. Please go to him for help with any problems.
So I took Buchoff this past spring semester for acct 201, and it was one of the worst classes i EVER took. Now, with that said, its fairly easy to pass. If you attend just about every class, shoot him some emails about some homework questions so he knows you exist, you should pass with a C. I got a 50 on test one and test 2, no idea about final.
Buchoff was the worst professor I have had. He doesn't teach whatsoever. You teach yourself everything about accounting. He has powerpoints, and he skips over the majority of the slides because "you should already know this." He is overly rude to students that didn't complete their homework. I am very glad I don't have to take his class any longer.
2 exams and a final. Assigns homework every single class but will only check it twice the entire semester. Hardest class I've taken at Towson, I'm lucky I passed. He's personable, funny, and will work with you if you talk to him. More than half of my class dropped by the end. I've never been more confused in class in my life. I felt dumb sometimes.
You have to read and teach yourself. I took acct in HS so the first few weeks of class weren't too hard for me. There are so many things that you need to know from each chapter in case they are on the tests. 2 tests, each 20 Qs with extra credit and he curves them. Final was cumulative but only 35 Qs with EC. You have to study every day for an A
Would not reccomend anyone to ever take his class. Tests are tough because you have to teach yourself everything, and he doesn't tell you what to prepare for. Sitting through his "lectures" feels like a complete waste of time, and if you skip his class, he'll fail you. He doesn't show any examples of how to do anything. AVOID at all costs.
Do not take him unless you're ready to teach yourself all the material. It is a self taught class, and he doesn't teach in class, but it is mandatory to attend. If you want to have a super stressful semester, then he is definitely the profesor for you. A tutor doesn't help and neither does he, just don't take him. You won't do well.
He is a very friendly, smart man. Takes attendance every day. Will help out if you go to his office hours, but be prepared to go through the readings and homework questions by yourself. If you don't take the time to do the homework, you won't do well on the tests. Tests basically mimic the homework examples
If you get stuck with him, please have the textbook before the class starts and read the first chapter before the first class. This class will be 99% of the textbook. You will basically teach yourself. He barely does any teaching in class but still takes attendance. Only 2 grade types, attendance and tests. Try your best to avoid.
Buchoff was a really tough professor. I ended up dropping his class because he was just a bad teacher in general. I didn't learn anything from him and basically had to teach myself. I would definitely recommend taking a different professor unless you want to put all of your effort into this one class.
Be prepared to teach yourself the material. Have the book the first day of class. I would recommend taking this class with a different professor if you can avoid Buchoff.
I came into Buchoff's class expecting a bit more. He's a nice man and pretty understanding, but his actual teaching skills were below par. Most of the class was teaching myself out of a textbook, he rarely gives lectures, and when he does he blows through the slides and leaves everyone confused. Don't take him if you can help it.
Has no idea how to teach to kids 40 years younger then him , can be funny at times but it's all textbook driven . Highly suggest don't take him unless you want to fail all test and withdraw
Buchoff rarely starts class on time, usually because he spends five minutes taking attendance at the start of every class. His lectures are very boring, and some of his instruction includes the phrase: "you need to read insert chapter here to understand this." That being said, as long as you read the book and do the homework, you should pass.
you basically have to teach yourself in his class. He does not teach during the lectures so much as go over things he presumably thinks you already know. You NEED the textbook to even have chance of passing. My advice, get a tutor if you're in his class and learn the material there because believe me you will not learn it during lectures.
Excerpt from my TU Course Eval.: I think that due to the nature of the course, it is expected that the professor be a veteran in the accounting field, but at the same time I think that a professor shouldn't be so disconnected from the students that he is teaching with such a veteran mindset. Don't do it unless you prefer self study.
Professor Buchoff is the best accounting professor I've had so far. As long as you put in effort he will work with you to pass the class!
He gets a bad rep but hes not that bad. If you do the readings and homework and pay attention in class you do good. Test arent that hard. As long as you put in effort youll succeed.
Honestly, the class wasn't that difficult. The test are really easy and simple but that's only if you do the online quizzes and homework to study. if anything the test is easier then taking the only quizzes. But you definitely going to need to read the book by and teach yourself because his lectures are useless but attendance is mandatory.
IF you'r good at teaching yourself by yourself take this class.
He's really nice, but the lectures aren't really lectures. He just goes over the homework assigned during the last class. I failed the first exam, but I started studying the practice exams in the textbook to teach myself and I ended up passing the class. He does give extra points if you don't miss more than 3 classes.
He is a very nice person and a nice person to talk to outside of class. But as class goes, it is very lecture heavy and reads straight from online power points. He knows accounting and knows what he talking about, but doesn't teach the content well. He pretty just reads the book to the class, but doesn't explain how to do the problems.
Get ready to teach yourself if he is your only option. He moves very quickly and erratically, his lectures can be hard to follow. The book is required and I recommend the online book option. The added resources are the most helpful because you will learn very little from lecture. The only positive is that he'll go over some questions in class.
This class is self taught. He does not explain concepts clearly. There was multiple days where he would skip 50 slides in 10 min assuming you knew everything. I would stay away from this teacher unless you can teach yourself by yourself. This was one of the hardest classes I have taken due to the professor.
This class is more of a teach yourself if you can teach yourself after receiving the answers to the homework you can succeed. Whatever you may have struggles with after reading and getting the answers you should go to tutoring immediately. I sought help on whatever was confusing to me while making sure I understood each section prior to the next.
You'll have to teach yourself. His leactures are pointless. He doesn't teach you, you teach yourself. If I would'vee known this, I would have taken this online instead of wasting my time driving to school.
All the reviews you see about having to teach yourself are 100% accurate. Buchoff is shockingly inept at teaching. He knows his stuff, but can't or won't teach material, leaving it up to students to figure everything out on their own.
Everything you see here about having to teach yourself are so true. This class is just him telling us what chapter to read and what homework problems to do and then the actual in class time is just him going over the homework on the chapter we read, he doesnt teach us! Would not recommend his class. If you take him youll be teaching yourself.
He is a nice professor and the test are easy. But you are basically teaching yourself. I never understood the lectures, so I'd always go to the tutoring center.
Hes a sweet old man but I didnt learn a thing. Everythings on Wiley Plus so you teach yourself then in class he goes over the hw problems, doesnt really teach new material. Chegg for everything. Its a easy A but you wont learn so it depends on what youre looking for.
All of the comments about teaching yourself are 100% true. The tests are multiple choice however, they do not reflect how the homework is set up at all. He talks alot and skips over slides quicker than I can even read them. Assumes you know everything and goes over multiple chapters in one night. Horrible way to teach, better off doing it yourself.
You HAVE to teach yourself in this class or you simply won't pass. Prof. Buchoff is a nice guy, but he just lacks fundamental teaching skills and doesn't clearly explain anything he teaches. He expects you to understand the material the second he teaches it, and gets irritated if you don't know. Participation MATTERS in this class too.
Professor Buchoff is an old-school professor. He does not feel the need to change his teaching style. It was incredibly hard to reach him outside of class, and his lectures are incredibly complex. If you read the textbook in this class you will do ok. You cannot rely on the teacher to help you succeed. You are on your own if you take this class.
Probably the worse professor I had so far. You have to read ahead, and then he'll go over the materials with you at the rate of 1000%. On the bright side, his exams were somewhat easy if you do the homework. All multiple choice. Good Luck if you are taking him.
I found myself learning by myself with this professor and trying to stay awake during the lectures. He also does not like to be called "sir", as I did one class being polite and he got snappy.
He does not teach a thing, just asks question and gets upset when we don't know the answer. Grade is heavily depended on tests. 3 tests each worth 100 points. There is 40 points for hw and participation, but that's it. There are 3 HARD hw due every week, and they count for basically nothing. Do not take this class, the stress is really affecting me
Never again!!!!! He grades very different and will not tell you that tests determine if you pass or fail because he adds everything to 400 and tests take up 300. My biggest regret this semester. If you love your mental health do not take this class!
He assigns a lot of homework that is hard and very time consuming that only accounts for a small percent of your grade. The tests are most of your grade and with there only being 3, doing bad on one may hurt you for the rest of the semester. He does not teach and just assumes we know things because he told us to read countless pages for homework.
Class was pretty difficult based on the fact that he just reads directly from the power point and doesn't give many examples through his lectures. It's up to you as the student to do the assigned reading and ask questions when you don't know how he came to a conclusion. I was able to teach myself. Must be disciplined and study to get an A.
Every single class was him going through the powerpoint explaining concepts. We barely ever did any examples in class and the test had nothing to do with the homework that we were assigned to do. The class is extremely test heavy and if you fail the tests then you will fail the class.
Classes were going over PowerPoints from the chapter and doing practice questions from the textbook. I recommend you to read and do the homework before class in order to ask good questions. You have to put your part into understanding the concepts. Tests were relatively straightforward. If you put some extra time into this class, you'll get an A.
Always seems disappointed in students when they don't know the answer. He expects us to know everything right away. His handwriting is hard to read. Just very inconsiderate, constantly making students feel bad. I've had to get tutoring and sign up for a online program to help me with the class.
If you care at all about your mental health don't take this class! I learned nothing by attending class and his lectures confused me more than doing the work myself. His grading is extremely unfair. Worst professor at Towson!
Don't take this class! I had to drop it because he is so unfair with his grading. I noticed so many students cheated on the second exam just to pass his class and he never even noticed.
Not a bad professor, you are in college of course it's going to be lecture-heavy and lots of homework. If you are determined and you do your homework/readings you will pass. He's understanding if you have questions after class etc. The grading is a little weird, but if you do well on your homework you should do well on the exams.
He reads off the PowerPoint that doesn't seem beginner friendly, but honestly, this subject isn't beginner friendly. He expects you to know the info from the chapters immediately. This class is based on 3 exams and like 25% of everything else, so studying is important. NOT easy!
Professor Buchoff is a fantastic teacher if you put in the time and ask questions and meet with him outside of class. He genuinely cares about student success and has assisted me in many ways in the class and my career. Accounting is a tough class to teach, so don't expect you can walk in and get an A (regardless of teacher). Highly recommend.
Avoid at all costs. Like someone else said, he expects you to know the material even if he hasn't touched on it. Classes consistently let out early after breezing through 60+ slides of a powerpoint and he will spend the first 10 minutes taking attendance.
This has to be one of the worst professors at Towson. Not much in depth teaching and more of him just scribbling on the board. Cant read his handwriting and don't understand what he is saying. Barry is past his prime and should think about stepping away, don't take this class unless it is your last option.
Professor Buchoff expects you to understand three chapters worth of material within three weeks for each exam. The book he assigns is very difficult to read without falling behind and the homework's are unnecessarily long. Exams make up 75% of your final grade, but he does curve them by quite a bit.
If you like comprehending nothing from the professor's mouth, Buchoff is for you. He only uses PowerPoints from the textbook provided and does not explain anything in detail, proceeding to speed through a slide with a lot of information. He writes in tint shorthand that you can't understand.
The tests are fairly easy if you are decent in accounting. Tests are curved, not very hard to get a good grade. However, the classes are bland and it's hard to know what to study early on. Didn't feel like I learned to much either. Just meh. But, an easy A.
Buchoff is a very kind man, who is clearly knowledgeable about accounting. However, his course is very difficult for a basic accounting course. The homework assignments are easy to do well on as you get multiple attempts and can check your answers infinitely before submitting. However, the exams are very difficult and make up most of your grade.
Please do not take this class with Barry. I'm usually an A's and B's student, but I am expecting a low C if I even pass. Barry expects you to know everything in the chapter immediately. There is so much material, you can't possibly remember everything. He zooms through the slides without actually teaching you how to do anything. Save yourself.
If you can take another professor just do it. This entire course is graded off of your exams which don't look like the homework. I legit got a D+ and he wouldn't round it either because he has no heart, he is also is extremely cold when you go to him for help. Overall terrible and I have beef w this man.
If you pay attention you will get an A and if you attend every class.
DONT DO IT. Homework takes HOURS. If you miss more than 3 classes, he drops points. Lectures are very hard to follow and he glazes over things like he's talking to colleagues who already understand the concepts. If you sign up for this class be ready to teach yourself on top of the hours of homework.
Class taught as if you already know the concepts of acct. Exams are completely different from the MML you do at home to study the chapters. Hardest class ever taken, I knew it was going to be hard but didn't expect the class to be taught as if you know the subject. ACCT 201 is the 1st class of accounting, and exams were hard as if I were a CPA.
Professor Buchoff's ACC201 class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the work. The lectures can be tough, but using resources like unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook helps a lot. Overall, a rewarding class if you're willing to grind.
Very understanding, great professor compared to every other accounting professor at TU. I actually choose to take him again. Lectures may be boring but he ends classes little early. The online textbook and videos helped me the most in this course.
Just swapped out this class. I only went to 2 classes, by the second class I knew I wasn't going to be able to comprehend his teaching style. He teaches like we should already know accounting and I don't have time for that. Swapped out the class while in his class.
He will yap your ear off about nothing. Every class I had most of the students would be asleep I HIGHLY recommend you DONT pick him as a professor. Everyone else is great besides him. He a cool guy though.
Seems to be a nice guy and he obviously knows his stuff, just a bad overall teacher. Does not teach concepts clearly, making homework's very difficult because he dosent really teach it. Teachs incredibly fast making it hard to grasp what he says and acts like you should already be an accounting expert.
Take another proffessor if possible. Im not sure how this man has been able to work this job for as long as he has, because he just simply is not good. He cant teach if his life depended on it.
Great professor
Lowkey passed me with a C when I had a 63% in the class. Cool guy.
I genuinely find it insane that this dude is allowed to still teach. Hes a nice guy but he is clearly just getting too old to lecture at a university level. His class is an 1:15 long and he regularly ends 30 minutes early and rambles through the entire class. If you fail one exam you fail the class. Thanks for ruining my law school chances Barry!
He ended every lecture 30 minutes early, so I had to teach myself everything. He's very old, bad with technology, and just stands in the front and mumbles while writing chicken scratch on the board.
My class was at 9am and having to listen to him just talk and talk and talk. And he is a bit interactive but no shade he is old and the way that he explains things is terrible and so is his handwriting and I was so lost. The connect homework you can actually teach yourself if you want to but yeah do not recommend unless you do not have ADHD.
