This guy knows what he is doing, but he is horrible at explaining things. If you never had calc before take someone else.
he knows TOO much... horrible professor, gives tests with 4 questions. U miss one and u'r down for a 75. DONT EVER TAKE HIM unless u'r a math wiz or something
I actually think Goluboff is a pretty good Prof. He DOES know what he is talking about and he has always made it a point to make sure EVERYONE understands. His exams are difficult but hey welcome to college.
He trails off at the end of every sentence. He looks like someone spliced Albert Einstein with the Doctor from Back to the Future and made him teach math.
that person said take somebody else.. take this guy over Johnson!!! May be harder than some, but waay easier to understand.
AVOID!!!! Doesn't really teach, just does a problems on the board and talks super fast. Rarely in his office for help and tests only 4 problems and sometimes things he barely talked about before so unless you know calc 2 don't take him.
I thought he was a very good teacher. He explained all the problems clearly and i am horrible at math and actually finished with a B-. He was tyhe best math teacher i have ever had.
This guy is extremely smart, but when it comes to teaching, he is extremely horrible. Don't take him unless you already know what you're doing. He cannot teach. He talks unbelievably fast. By the time you are asking yourself what just happened he's three problems ahead of you. Avoid at all costs
Had him for the summer class and he was much easier.
this guy looks like a dissheveled stork, goes off on wild tangents that are way beyond your current comprehension and tests are extremely hard. cant finish comprehending one explanation before he goes onto a next problem
No Comments
this guy is a ****bag. he skips around and never completes the problems he puts on the board. he will not tell you what is on his test. he will tell you it is in these 4 chapters of the book, then pull things out that arent in there. HE SUCKS STAY AWAY!!! HE WILL KILL YOUR GPA
This guys is such an Ass. He goes on rampage trying to explain problems which he just makes more confusing. When he writes on the board he blocks it so you can't see what he is writing and he mumbles and you can't understand a word he is saying. My advise, DO NOT TAKE HIM otherwise prepare for your GPA to go down.
damn chalk board talking mumbling all of the time sometimes talks too fast to make any sense is not helpful and is full of garbage DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO KEEP A NORMAL GPA
Easy A if you're not lazy and go to class. Does hard problems in class but puts basic ones on the test. If you follow in class and do the assigned homework it's not that difficult.
Aside from the flowered hawaiian shirts he wore, AWESOME TEACHER!!!! If you go everyday and take notes on everything u will have NO problem. Most of his questions are from the notes in class. I took him in the summer and he was great. I got an A in the class and I didnt even have to take the final just the 4 tests. oh and he sounds like a cartoon
Took him in the summer it was easy just do the homework he assigns and then review a little before the test he tests are like 5 questions long just show as much work as you possibly can i got an A.
Do not take a class with him. Avoid. If you are taking a class with him right now then drop it as soon as possible.

The worst teacher. Does NOT explain the material, comes in, mumbles to the board as he writes the answer, and expects you to understand how to do it yourself, has 14 quizzes that are counted a test. His tests are 5 questions and unless your answer is down to the very last detail, its only half credit. Does not review any material before the test.
Only take him if you want to screw yourself up. An average grade in his class must is a D. Does not explain material, never reviews for exams. You will constantly have to recheck the tests as he forgets to look at the page with all the work. Does not go as the book but comes up with ways to get an answer, does not use the book. Useless teacher.
Stay away from!! Wish I would've waited for next semester to take him. Doesn't really review at all for exam, may do a problem or two thats it. Gives pop quizs whenever he feels like it whether it is Mon,Wed, etc. Even you get get the correct answer on exam he will find ways to take off points. To sum it up..dont take him
He is ridiculous he will not even let you use a calculator for class and does problems that need a calculator. He is sure to drop ur GPA. Gives quizzes every fri and does not tell you what is going to be on them.
Very hard teacher.. i went to him for help and he said this class is not for me. called another teacher.. (Cecilia McVoy who also is hard and nuts(i'm failing in her class)) and got me in that class after the late drop... and i got no credits taken off no fees to pay or anything. Hes like a cool grandfather but not a cool teacher.
If you have a hard time with math he is not the professor for you. He's more focused on getting the material done rather than the student learning it. He blocks everything he writes on the board. Very short office hours. Not a good professor if you don't like math.
I cannot believe this man is allowed to teach. He lectures to the board and more than half the students drop his classes before the end of the semester. He should just retire.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Mr. Goluboff does not have a PhD and has not been promoted since he started torturing students with his bad teaching over 30 years ago. He does not belong at a teaching institution.
If you relay on a calculator or cant do math with out one, dont take his class.
This teacher is the worst teacher you will ever have in your life. When he speaks he speaks facing the board so you cant hear and he covers half the work that he just wrote so you dont understand what he is talking about. Does not let you use calculator and does not explain things well. Half the class dropped and the rest of them had D's. STAY AWAY
this guy is very tough.even though there is a easy way to explain problems, he always goes through the hard way.i mean extremely confusing way...DONT TAKE FALE,DONT TAKE HIM...PLEASEEEEEEEEEE
HE DONT KNOW HOW TO TEACH...HE WILL KILL YOUR GPA...
This dude is really hard... we started out with like 25, and atleast 15 dropped... and then 5 more withdrew.... i ended up with a C but thats only because i busted my butt on the final.
If you take good notes and ask him the answers to the problem sets the tests are suprisingly easy to study for. It is a methods course, so you don't need a calculator. He is a good teacher, but make sure you ask him about whatever you are unsure of.
oh my god. This guy goes so fast. Every single class, I'm sitting there, trying to understand what we learned 2 classes ago. He writes all slanted on the board. And when he writes out concepts and theories on the board, dear lord, it it impossible to read his cursive. I think I'm gonna have to retake math sometime. Maybe next year. Screw this.
He is very difficult with giving notes. He stands in front of the board while teaching and is hard to follow through a lesson. You may have to teach yourself all the information. Rough grader
This granddad is seriously starting to go through some dementia. I'm a psych major. Trust me. One time, he started talking about how if you drop a pencil, you never know when it's gonna go up instead of down. Always mumbling to the board, cannot read his handwriting. I'm asian. We're supposed to be good at this number crap. I have like a 34%!
Notes are difficult to follow
He is actually a nice professor, but u really need to study and make sure u copy everything that he writes on the board. His tests are hard and he takes off a lot of points for silly mistakes. Overall if u decide to take him, make sure u do the home-work regularly, do good on the friday quizes and if u are not sure about something, ask him.
Do not take him. He will write problems up on the board for you to copy and he will do the problems wrong. And when you study those notes and do it that way on tests or quizzes he will mark you wrong. He also gives review sheets with wrong information, and when confronted about he says "Don't ever trust my notes." It is easy to fail that class.
He's actually not a hard teacher..He's nice..but the way he teaches is confusing and make it even more complicated..he takes points off for silly mistakes that he thinks it's important...just follows his step to do question and u'll be fine..have quizzes every Friday and it's not hard..try to go well in these quizes..Test is not that hard as long a
I heard he was a hard teacher going into the class but if you take good notes and study you will do fine. ASK him questions! He'll never not help! While it is true that 99% of the class drops - it only gives you one-on-one attention. Don't be turned off to take him by the bad comments. Challenge yourself (it's college!!) and you will get an A.
He is a really easy teacher and as long as you're nice to him he's nice back. He gives alot of quizes which helps with your grade a good bit. He's a sticklier on showing work but the move work you show the more credit you can receive. His only down fall is he tends to stand in front of his notes alot.
He is a good teacher, homework is given but not turned in. He tends to ramble a lot writing difficult problems for his own enjoyment-they aren't required to be understood
This professor knows his material very well and if asked about a specific problem, he will likely clear it up. The only problem with him is that he speaks softly and his voice is like a lullaby. I fall asleep almost everyday even when I am trying not to. In short, thank God I took this course in High School because I would be failing had I not.
If you know calc WELL take his class, it'll just be a review and take tests that are clear and simple. NEVER TOOK CALC? DONT TAKE IT. he's horrible at teaching, talks to the board and mumbles.
OMG I took this course for like a week and I didn't like it. Yes he goes sooo fast. He knows what he's doing, but he doesn't know how to teach. You won't understand at all unless you took calculus before. My problem is I didn't take it before. I will course with another teacher. good luck.
I meant to write math 140
Had him for Math 140 and 141. He gives a lot of math examples in class;it is easy to follow him. Why does everyone think he's bad? Just pay attention! If you can't understand him, then ask him to speak up! If he's standing in the way, then politely ask him to move. If he erases a problem before you copy it down, scream STOP! Good teacher; he cares.
Plain simple, He is a horrible teacher. Goes wayyy to fast. you will get lost easily, unless ur an expect at calculus. I don't recommend him.
He is one of the best teachers I have had at Abington. He is super helpful, goes over any questions you ask, his teaching style takes a little getting used too. He tends to talk to the board a bit, but after like a week you get used to it. You HAVE to do homework and practice to do well. Those people that did bad never opened a boook!!!!
I think he's a good teacher. I took calc in high school so that helped a lot. He goes over the homework and answers any questions you may have. The test are pretty close to the review so if you do the homework and the review you should be good.
This guy knows what he is doing, and thats great, but the problem is he basically teaches it to himself. He goes way to fast, is way to soft spoken, blocks the board and goes all over the place. His writing is horrible. I am good at math but with him as a teacher i didnt do well at all and ill have to retake the class. AVOID taking him, trust me.
I think he's a nice person but definitely not a good teacher. I feel his tests are unfair. One exam is like twenty percent of your overall grade and each exam has 4 questions on it so basically if you get one wrong...you lose 5% of your overall grade. I am aware of the fact that college is hard, but this guy is plain unfair
Calc II is not an easy subject, since it requires that you actually think before you do a problem. Mr. Goluboff is a good teacher, and most of the comments here are dumb and incoherent. Some are true though, his downfalls include his tendency to block the board, and mumble. Nonetheless, he is a good teacher, and if you don't understand, ask him.
borderline grades remain borderline. no matter how close you are he NEVER gives the student benefit of the doubt. also does not prepare you for exams.
TERRIBLE. Faces the board and mumbles the entire time. Even though there are simpler ways to explain things, he always seems to take the long, difficult, roundabout way. Avoid him at all costs; take your math classes at community college if he's the only one who teaches them.
AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!! He is so boring and all the kids in my class dont care about anything he says. Most kids have already taken calc in highschool and so they know everything. He talks to the board and you can never hear a word he says...all in all boring and a terrible teacher
Horrible Teacher !! I dropped his class. He mumbles all the time. I couldnt take anymore of him. AVOID HIM !!
I did very well in his class. Very helpful if you seek it. I have never taken calculus prior to taking his class and I did well. Practice the problems and study. You never need the textbook. Web-assign is assigned pretty often though.
EASYYYYYYY. test aren't that hard. also SIT IN THE BACK. it's very easy to cheat. he paces back and forth in front of the class room, stares out the window, leaves the classroom, and usually just starts grading other tests staring down the whole time, while the tests are given. same goes for the final. he's very easy. TAKE HIM.
If you know mathematics, he is really easy for you. The only problem with him is that his voice is too low that you won't hear him much. But the exams are very easy. If you know mathematics basic take him else don't take the class.
He is good at explaining things one on one during his office hours, but in class he gives examples that are mostly simple so that you understand, but when you do the hw it's difficult to understand what your suppose to do. He mumbles A LOT and stands in front of the notes and on harder topics tends to move faster. YOU REALLY HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION!!
Worst professor I've ever had. Quickly went through everything in class, weekly quizzes and very hard tests. DO NOT TAKE.
Avoid at all costs !!! He will kill your gpa. Rough grader.
God help us...
I took this class in the Spring of 2013 and it wasn't that bad. There's webassign often and as long as you do those, it'll help you. Go to class, take notes. Sit in the front. Literally copy everything he puts on the board.
This guy is not the easiest to understand and likes to stand in front of the board when you need to copy something down. Definitely study a lot before the exams and try to keep up with the Webassign. If you have the option, take a better professor. USE HIS OFFICE HOURS. Don't make the same mistakes I did.
So easy, I never go to class and get a Esay A.
Worst class ever and worst teacher ever! Doesn't explain things properly and expects you to know everything. If you get him just pray real hard and you might get a D
Avoid. I don't know how I got a C, I was very close to a D. He stands infront of the board so you can't see or hear what he's doing. Then he gets mad when you ask him to do another example. Using the internet is what saved me and the book sometimes. He's a tough grader but answer every question on the test and you'll get SOME points.
Nice! He gives everything that he expects you to know. You have to study for every class otherwise you are not going to succeed. He grades the homework at the end of the semester; it is helpful to do it when it is assigned because he answers any question that you have at the beginning of class. He cares about students who care about his lectures.
I took this class because I needed the credit and an understanding of the course. I already took calculus in high school, so I knew what I was doing-if I didn't I would have been lost. He talks to the chalk board and drones on about the history of math functions. Very long and unhelpful. Would not take him again.
He is the worst teacher i ever had! He seems to think everyone knows what they are doing, but most people in the class are lost. He is not that helpful and just stands in front of the chalkboard and mumbles to himself. Would never take him again!
He talks way too fast, and i didn't even understand anything. I never skipped class and I still didn't even know what was going on.
You will need to teach yourself by reading a book or using YouTube.
He faces the board and talks for 50 mins straight. Writes in cursive and is little to no help outside and inside of class.
This may go against what the other reviews state, but as a student who took AP calc in High School, he knows his stuff. It is college and he doesn't conduct a classic lecture. The only thing that jams students up at time is the exams. I had onebadexam, but Aced the final. He should have taken into consideration the improvement
Just like the previous review I also took AP Calc in high school. He does know the material. Lectures are long and boring, test reviews are pretty much the same as the exam. Very tough grader when it comes to exams. Grade consists of 3 exams, a final and online homework, all are weighted equally. Be prepared to work a lot if you want to do well.
Mr. Goluboff is not a good teacher. Not for me anyways. He goes over way more than necessary and that makes it harder to understand most of the lessons. He basically knows what he's doing, but can't teach it to others. If you've already taken a calc. class in high school then it might be easier for you. However, if you've never had calc. avoid him
He gives three tests over the whole semester and each test is only 4 to 5 questions. Who gives only 4 to 5 questions on a test? That's more like a quiz and it makes it hard to get a good grade unless you absolutely know what your doing. Even with partial credit I got some low scores on the tests because of them only being 4 to 5 questions.
He's a good professor. Just make sure to ALWAYS go to his office hours anytime you feel u missed something which u would notice on the web assign. Its hard to hear him in the back btw. Sit in the front.
He skims through material as if it is some kind of race to get done as fast as he can. He never explains why or how something happens and just goes from there, He does not care about others and does not know to exploit his intellect. He has HORRIBLE handwriting and needs improvement. it is so inane that he calls students by their last names!!!!
Avoid at ALL COSTS!!! He does not even treat you like human. He treats you like a machine who can catch up with everything he says. HE CARES ABOUT NOBODY!!!!!!
Im someone who is good at math. Whenever they would introduce a new topic I would get it quickly and tend to get bored. So it means something when even I was lost from the very first day in this class. He'll race through the materials showing plenty of examples but only a 1 or 2 vague sentence definition, he expects you to know calculus beforehand.
He is clearly proficient in Calculus but his teaching style is very pedestrian, vague and leaves the student with more questions than the questions he is trying to solve on the board. ATTEND ALL lectures, DO ALL Web assign problems, GO OVER the material on a daily basis. 3 Exams and a Final. Exam has 5-7 questions. Web assign counts as one exam
Took This Professor freshman year and it was changed my perspective on college. IF your gonna take him I hope you are good learning from the Internet because the professor only talks to the board in class. I would avoid this class if possible
This guy can not teach! He sits in front of the board and lectures you thinking you know the material before he goes over it in class. Calc in High School is def RECOMMENDED if you want to pass this class. Just be prepared to learn on your own cause his ways only make the material more challenging. Also only 4 tests the whole year is kinda unfair.
highly not recommended to take his class.
He is a nice guy and wants his students to succeed but he is an awful professor. He is not clear in his lectures what-so-ever. If you ask a question, he'll probably just make you more confused. He is such a tough grader on exams and rarely gives partial credit.
If you already know calc then its for you
Not good if you don't know calc already. Very lecture heavy. Doesn't help if you go to office hours. Just sit in class and listen to his lectures, and then find the tests to be completely different.
He's a terrible teacher! I emailed him and asked if he could slow down and pause in-between slides and he said no. He straight up said no. Plus he continues to mess up during our zoom classes and he doesn't even apologize for it. He talks way too fast, his handwriting is illegible and his mumbling drives me crazy.
Not good. Not good at all.
horrible explanation of concepts. speaks soo softly in class, he's barely audible. quite indifferent and doesn't understand the student's position. worst teacher I've ever met.
You get 4 tests for the semester and u gotta get 94+ in all of them to get an A. There are no quizzes so no chance of redemption so if you do bad in an exam you will be left behind while the ship sails away.
Terrible Professor, he mumbles very quietly and rushes through content. At the beginning of the semester there was about 25 students, by the end of the semester there was about 6 students left. DO NOT take this professor unless you want to have to retake this course. I taught myself this course online and with the help of a tutor.
He mumbles a lot and rushes through the presentations/slides. He's very inconsiderate and does not offer extra credit. I definitely would not recommend this class to anyone.
Terrible at teaching lectures. He will just look down at his iPad and mumble to himself while he writes in sloppy cursive the ENTIRE time. I had to wear my earbuds with an ambient noise mode so I could hear him better during the lecture. Only benefit to his class was the free textbook that was far more helpful he was.
He acts like a machine and treats students like machines! He has terrible handwriting and does not care about students at all! If Barry Stephen Goluboff is going to dehumanize his students, then immediate termination from Penn State is strongly advised!
I can't even read his handwriting, and his voice is low if I sit in the fourth row, I won't be able to hear what he says. His lecture is nothing to do with his homework and nothing to do with the test either, I have no idea how to pass his class.
You can't hear him! It's almost as if he is mumbling the lecture to himself and not presenting it to the class. I have never been so upset with a class. The material is actually not difficult especially if you took any sort of calc before. However, what he teaches doesn't match what he gives on tests/quizzes considering he writes them himself.
Just avoid this professor at all costs, doesn't teach at all and rushes through his presentations and gives no time for students to copy or even comprehend what they're writing. Attendance is mandatory because of the quizzes almost everyday. AVOID this professor.
Doesn't grade homework Very specific in grading Quizzes are randomized problems
This prof. should be fired. He grades you on 3 exams. 2 midterms and a final. He makes you more confused when asking questions. He writes in sloppy cursive, gets mad when you ask him to go back a slide to finish copying, and moves too fast through the material. STAY AWAY FROM BARRY.
Avoid this professor if possible. He rushes through lectures and makes it nearly impossible to understand the material. However, the free textbook and Unstuck ai were helpful for self-study.
