MOS 2310 is a difficult course overall. You essentially teach yourself the concepts. He conducts the class where you ask questions and he answers, no lecturing. He creates the quizzes to be easy (bonus marks). Barry is probably the most inspirational professor that I have met at Western and he made an impact on my life,take his class by all means.

Mos 2277 was the best course I have ever taken at UWO. Extremely bright and insightful Prof. Very relevant info for the real world, and Barry explained the concepts very well and kept the class intriguing and entertaining.

I've taken both corporate finance and personal finance with Barry and they were both by far the best courses I've ever taken. He gives AMAZING lectures with knowledge relevant to the real world, where it really matter. You're going to have to work hard on your own but it is so worth it. I actually looked forward to his lectures, they really inspire

It's very easy for people to blame the professor, because Barry does not spoon-feed us things from the textbook. He teaches us real life applications and knowledge that is so much more valuable than getting a good grade. But for those who don't believe that, Barry is always inviting us to email him questions or topics that we want him to explain

Best Professor I have ever had!! and best course I have ever taken! 2277 will prepare you for the real world. Barry makes every class very entertaining. I don't understand all the negative responses towards this prof on here, Barry is by far one of my favourite profs that I've ever had! And the material taught in the course is so relevant and useful to your life, I learned more useful knowledge in this course than any other course in my schooling so far. Take it, you'll thank yourself when youre 40

All negative feedback is shocking. Barry was my best professor at Western because he taught what he thought was important for us in our futures. It was such an enjoyable experience to get a break from all the USELESS MOS courses. Wake up and smell the roses lads this guy is a beauty.

Best course I've taken in my university life and the most valuable course you will take. Barry is great and is really passionate about teaching students about personal finance. HIGHLY recommend taking MOS 2277 with Barry. Midterms are fair, not easy. You have to read the textbook and he is strict about the class avg policy at around 70%.

I had this prof for both 2310 and 2277. In 2310 he was a tough marker but he was overall good at explaining concepts. 2277 with this guy was the best choice I made in my life. His lectures are so entertaining and he really has a passion for teaching others personal finance. He's a hard market but definitely worth having as a prof regardless

Not sure why Barry has such terrible reviews. Maybe he has a different teaching style for other courses. For 1023 he was super helpful, encouraging and he genuinely cared for the students. Only problem with the course is that there are no practice exams to prep for the midterm or final

Not sure why barry got such bad reviews. I had him for MOS1023 and I thought he was great! Really good at giving applicable examples and is always down to explain something until you understand it. Always pointed out material that would definitely be on the exam when he went through lectures

Barry is an amazing prof and an amazing guy. He's really passionate about personal finance and I really recommend more people take his course. Yes it is hard and he is strict about the class average but if you put in the work you can do well in his course.

Barry is really passionate about personal finance and brings real world experiences into the classroom. It is by far the most useful class I have taken in University. Assignments are on the easy side, exams are more difficult but fair. Go to class and understand the concepts and you'll be fine, but don't expect a mark in the 90s.

He is really passionate about the courses he teaches and really wants the students to understand what he is teaching. Encourages lots of questions and offers lots of ways to help outside of class. He made a genuine effort to slow down his teaching after students complained that it was too fast. Great Prof!

Such an amazing professor. I recommend his Personal Finance class to absolutely everybody. Yes the average is low, but that happens with all MOS classes, and he has no control over that. He purposely gives assignments to boost grades, but the only thing he really cares about is teaching student about REAL LIFE which is more valuable than anything.

Barry is one of the best prof. at UWO. He cares about his students, listens, and encourages questions. He is really good in responding to emails. He made the efforts to slow down when we told him he was fast. He made extra office hours before the exams. He taught me MOS 1023, and i can't wait to take MOS 2277 with him next year.

One of my favourite profs I've had and my absolute favourite course I've taken so far. This class can really change your life unlike most university courses. The exams can be tricky but the assignments are easy 100% if you put the work in and are worth 30% of your grade. 80's are obtainable on exams if you study well. Amazing lectures. Take it!!!!

Hands down the best mos prof I've had! Really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. His examples are practical and actually teaches you about the real world.

Barry Hawn was definitely one of my favourite profs. He really cares about helping his students and puts a lot of time towards making sure you fully understand concepts. He also gives a lot of hints which is rewarding when it comes to the exam. I would definitely take his class again.

Professor Hawn is a really good professor who takes time to explain accounting so clearly and concisely that even a stone could understand accounting. He's very accessible outside of class, and he's a fairly lenient professor. His multiple choice tests are unorthodox in their wording, but after the first test you shouldn't have any problems.

This guy is amazing. He makes 3 hour lectures enjoyable. He uses real world relatable examples to make concepts easier to understand, and if you don't understand him, he is always available via email, forums, or office hours. Take his class, you will not regret it!

He's a good prof. Readings are 100% necessary, memorize the terms and then read the textbook. Sometimes most students just study the slides, and lose marks from the textbook portion. Materials a little dry but he makes things interesting. All in all a good prof would take again.

At the date of this post, Barry's score is low, a 3/5. That is unjustified. Barry is a fantastic Prof. He has a forum where you can ask questions 24/7. His 3 hour lectures don't feel like 3 hours. He fought for our class so we wouldn't get bell-curved down because we got better grades than past years. His exams are fair. Take this prof guys.

Barry was my favourite prof from first year! I hate accounting but Barry actually makes it interesting. Make sure to attend every lecture because he covers everything for the tests and exams and gives you extra info not on the slides.

Barry is the best prof I've ever had at Western (besides Phil King)! He makes 3 hour lecture fly by. He is an excellent speaker, clear and captivating. Has a very good teaching style, and is a good lecturer. The first course I could actually pay attention for a full 3 hour lecture. There is lots of information, and it requires reading the textbook.

Barry has been one of my favourite profs in my 4 years here. He is so knowledgeable in this field. His class was the one I look forward to the most, he uses real examples that make hard concepts make sense. I took this class because of how well he taught MOS1023 - I wasn't disappointed. This is a class that will teach you real life content that you will remember even after the course is done. Tough exams, but that's not really his choice. Definitely the most valuable course I've taken in university thus far.

This is by far the most practical class you will ever take. Make sure to study hard for the exams and read the questions properly. The assignments are much easier to compensate for tough exams. Overall, amazing experience!

Barry is a fantastic Prof, his lower rating on here is not reflective of his actual teaching. Took MOS2277 with him, amazing class with very useful content. However, you MUST read the text to do well on midterms but if you do they are not unfair at all. Barry is clearly very invested in his students, would highly recommend!

Had him for first year finance MOS. His lectures are amazing and he tells a lot of stories from his time in accounting that are really interesting. You can always ask him questions and he is quite fair. He's really easy to understand, and if you study, you can definitely do well. Overall, he is a really great prof.

mos 3360 is a pretty intense course in terms of having the online portion due every week so you have to keep up with readings. However Barry made the class so enjoyable. Everything he teaches is directly related to content you'll see on the final. Overall, he's a great professor and I'd take classes with him again if he was teaching them!

Barry is an awesome professor and a seemingly cool guy. I am approaching the final of his MOS2277 Personal Finance class. This is a class that you cannot expect to get an easy 90 in, and you will have to work hard for your grade. Nonetheless, the content in this class will be quite valuable for your life, regardless of what faculty you are in.

I had Barry as a prof in my first year at Western and now in my final year I took his financial planning course. It is hands down the most useful course I have taken during university. If you go to lectures and listen to what he has to say you will do well in the course! He really wants everyone to succeed both in and outside of class!

Loved the course and the prof, but the exams were unfair. Given this year with COVID, having both exams in non-MC format was extremely difficult. Myself and my peers got high 90's to 100 on the assignments but low 60's on exams. The exams were a huge time crunch, kids with "accommodations" had a huge advantage, as the exams were made not to finish.

Barry is very knowledgable and has a clear passion for personal finance so the course was very useful- just know he marks exams extremely hard & made it so students wouldn't finish in order to maintain the 65-72% MOS average. Exams are all short answer/case study & he isn't clear with what he expects. If you can afford the average drop, take 2277!

I absolutely loved his lectures and overall teaching style. One of the few amazing professors I've had. He is engaging, kind, honest, and willing to listen and help. His assignments and tests are fair and I enjoyed learning about finance and want to learn more thanks to him. He actually cares about his students' success.

Loved the prof and the content-- was one of the most useful classes I have taken at Western. This course is definitely not an easy A and requires quite a bit of work/studying to do well. I strongly recommend before midterms and exams to re-read textbook chapters and cross-reference lectures in order to properly understand course concepts.

You know, in universities you will have a couple of favorite professors, and for me, Barry is one of them. Is his course hard? Yes. But the knowledge and perspectives you can learn from this class are worthless. I love this guy, and I will recommend all of my friends to take this course.

Amazing prof, the best course and prof I have had at Western so far. Although the lectures are long, I never missed one lecture and was interested the whole time. Exams are tough and are textbook heavy but assignments are easy 90-100's. Barry puts so much time and effort into his lectures and kept everything super interesting and realistic!

He is a tough grader because of the 2nd year BMOS average requirement but if you're not overly concerned with your GPA, I truly think this is one of the best courses you will ever take, and is worth the potential GPA hit.

Probably the most useful course I've ever taken that got me into investing. Barry is also super funny and just sound like he cares about what he teaches. I usually skip classes when profs are just reading off the powerpoints but I always try my best to attend his lectures.

Barry is a great guy and this class is the most useful class you can take. The concepts covered in this class are not covered in many other courses, but the exams are difficult. The exams are weighted pretty heavily towards the textbook so it is a must for this class. Nonetheless this class should be taken by everyone.

Barry Hawn is a great professor. He has a sort of dry humor thats absolutely hilarious. The content of the course is extremely useful for real-life. While I did enjoy his classes, the assignments were extremely tedious and took a lot of time. The exams required A LOT of studying but it's still possible to do well. I would highly recommend.

got a poo grade, but i went to 2 classes what can i say. contnent is the most useful stuff ive ever learned at this school, real lad with real experience, once tossed me a dc after class. exams r tricky and u need texbook notes but whatever i love this guy

Genuinely the best course I have taken at Western. He drills so many simple fundamentals that are often overlooked into your head that can easily make you millions. I would recommend everyone to take this course. Years of financial success are far more valuable than one good grade. I have my final tmrw, wish me luck lol.
