Difficult teacher, but you'll learn alot if you can put up with the 'sense of humor.'
Puts all of the info you need on the board. No book required. Uses simple, easy to follow examples.
REALLY FUNNY, love his class
Coolest teacher i ever had!
It's difficult but doable; definitely not a class for those who aren't interested in economics. He knows his material and makes the stuff about as interesting as possible. Quite clear.
Very funny. He makes class interesting and is always willing to help you if you get lost.
Very clear, helpful, and understandab;e teacher.
He is an awesome teacher! He throws in some good and lame jokes, none the less amusing. You don't need the book, just get notes everyday and you'll do good.
Haworth is HISTARICAL! And he's fun, and if you really need help with your homework or with an Exam, all you have to do is ask'em and he'll help you. And he's great to converse back and forth through e-mail. If I didn't have this teacher, I probably would've failed Econ! Two thumbs up!!! I loved Haworth!!!!
Veerrry good teacher. explains subject matter soo well. much recommended
Haworth is one of the most gracious professors i've had. He puts notes on blackboard, has review sessions before tests, and throws tons of jokes into his lectures to make them interesting. I would definately recommend him to anyone!! as long as you go to class, you'll be fine! 85 and up is an A!!
awesome teacher, reslly versed in economics, made teaching so interesting, i had him in 201 and decided to take him for 202,a class that started at 8am,though i was not a mornig person,i bet this alone tell, how much of a teacher he is to me.the best so far,i hated econs but now i love it.the text book is also important since it gives you more insigh
one of the best prof. @ uofl. go to class and take notes. don't buy book.. i didn't even open it. tests & hmwk from lectures. he will help you anytime! super nice!
He is a great prof and makes econ as exciting as it can be. He throws in a lot of jokes to try and keep people informed but the test are hard. Make sure to look at old test and questions of the day and youll do fine. Be aware of the crack jokes, they come up a lot
I had no interest in Econ, and I am terrible at math. However, Haworth made Econ really interesting. He was always extremely helpful, he clarifies everything very well, does reviews, and curves. One of the best teachers ever!
Barry is so COOOL! think of a comedian as a teacher well he's it. Throws in jokes with the teaching and makes you feel relaxed. The workload is at a minimum with 3 homeworks which are simple if you go to class. CURVES like crazy! basically anything above 86 is considered an A..cant beat that. Also automatically get 50% if you attempt HW.
Very entertaining at times.
Math intensive. Funny and very organized and got through ALL material on time. Easy to take notes from board 5 pages each session, and get ready to draw the supply/demand graph a billion times) YOU MUST SHOW TO EVERY CLASS!!!!! I would have gotten better grade if I was able to attend his review session. Book was worthless as test is over notes.
Excellent teacher and there for you if you need help. I took econ 202 at 8 AM just, so I could have him again.
Awesome Professor-will help you if you need. Two midterms and Final with little homeworks. Amount of work not bad, but make sure you take good notes-almost everything comes from them. Textbook not needed--at least the old edition wasn't
Hard class, but good teacher. Only has 2 tests and a final. Tests are hard study notes and book!
Funny, entertaining. The class is not hard, just take the practice exams online and go over what you miss. He also offers review sessions before the exams, which are helpful if you had a hard time with the homework. Just make sure you go to lecture and you'll do fine. You won't need the book. I got an A.
He is very entertaining, not a dull moment in class. His exams are slightly hard but his homeworks are easy. I recommend taking his class.
Tests are hard, but an 84 is an A. Only a few homework assignments. Notes are the most important part of his class. The book will just compliment the notes and possibly clarify some misunderstandings.
GREAT, FUNNY, Awesome teacher. He was a great teacher and I am going to take his econ 202 class. Econ is now my major bc of him. Very helpful. Take good notes and go to all classes. Tests are 98% notes, and he curves so it helps alot. If you do all these, study notes, go to review sessions, and take the practice tests, an A/B is not out of reach
Very funny. Absolutely engaging. Hard evaluator. You MUST study for his exams.
This also applies for ECON201. He is funny, witty, and sarcastic. He explains the material thoroughly. His tests are all notes from class so you must go. He has study session before every test to answer questions and his website with previous tests and homework questions is very helpful. I recommend!
He's a great teacher, really funny and engaging. While taking this class I learned that Economics isn't my cup of tea. Still, I have no regrets taking it, I still learned a lot. His tests are hard so I recommend attending class.
very good guy! gives examples on crack and weeds i mean hes hella funny, exams are kinda hard a lil thou but i could still got a B with hard work
Great professor. Gives 4 homework assignments and 3 tests (the third is a comprehensive final). Has two grading systems and chooses the one that'll give you the best grade. Go to class, take notes, go during his office hours to check your homework. Show effort and you'll most likely get a good grade. Super nice and entertaining too.
Super nice guy. really wants everybody to do well in this class he is not out to fail everybody. If you study for tests, do all homework, and come to every class an A is very obtainable. As far as the textbook dont buy it unless you plan on never going to class.
Great professor! Keeps lectures interesting as possible. Willing to help any way he can- even does grades two ways to help you out. Class is plain hard though. You must attend class and study alot in order to do well. Recommend going to study sessions. Book not necessary to buy.
Everything a College Professor should be. Deals with 300 plus students a semester and still finds time for every single one of them. Not many like him.
LOVE him. Wants students to learn; helps in every way possible. Funny but still educational. If he taught more classes, I would definitely take them. Tests were a little hard but if you study you should be fine.
Best professor I've ever had! Keeps econ extremely interesting, which is almost impossible, is very helpful in class, and in his office hours! Homeworks are not hard, and you get full credit for doing at least half right. Two Midterms and a comprehensive Final, you choose your grade distribution system - whichever works better for your grade. Best!
I took the honors version of this course, which was great because we didn't have any additional work compared to the regular classes and he graded our tests first. Haworth is a good lecturer--he writes a lot on the board. GO TO CLASS! 2 exams, 4 HW assignments, 1 final. Confusing subject in general though.
Class was extremely hard. Professor Haworth does offer office hours but as someone who works a full time job and goes to school those were not an option. He expects you to come by his office or get some kind of help outside of class, which is something I personally couldnt do. However, he does know his stuff and if you have the extra time take it.
Bro among bros. Poppa Barry was spitting knowledge all over the place. I took his course over the summer and the bro was still in high gear. That's a rarity among college professors. He always had energy and pep and is really easy to talk to. The course material is pretty difficult, but he answered every question i brought to him.
Haworth was a great guy but the class was extremely difficult and his lectures, while entertaining, were hard to comprehend. It's just an overall tough subject.
Haworth is extremely nice and entertaining - But his teaching is HORRIBLE. He knows his stuff... but his delivery in explaining it to students who don't know much about economics is BAD. He is extremely confusing and all over the place. He writes all of the notes on the board, and jumps from example to example.
great professor. If you plan on missing multiple classes this is not the class for you.
Dr. Haworth is an excellent professor! His lectures were very entertaining and he made economics interesting. His tests are difficult, but he uses a grading distribution that is in your favor. Very fair, and gives you a lot of opportunities for help.
Professor Haworth rocks. He's very interesting & entertaining. He is very passionate about his subject. I have no interest in econ, but he made it somewhat interesting. I took his honors class. No homework, but tests are very, very difficult. He has to add a relatively large curve, takes effort in the class into account when figuring final grade.
I had him for Micro, and Professor Haworth is nothing short of awesome. He is very funny, but is direct with his teachings. Very easy to understand, and if you have a problem, he will do his best to make sure you understand the material. His tests aren't incredibly easy, but with some studying, one can easily get an A.
Nice guy, a little cheesy but likes young people. Extremely difficult class and he goes to some lengths to trick you. Will lower GPA. Probably best for students that are ECON majors and want a challenge.
Very difficult class, his tests are EXTREMELY hard. I would not recommend taking him unless you are interested in Economics and want a challenge. 2 different grading scales so he caters to the students. 4 homework assignments (easy 100% on homework), 2 tests worth 100 points and 1 final worth 150 points. Very nice guy and funny, just hard class.
I wish Haworth taught every college class. For me, he made Economics interesting and relatable (which is a hard feat sometimes, but he does it magnificently). You will have to study ALOT and do the homework and go every day, but if he sees you working hard he will keep that in mind at the end of the semester.
I have nothing but the highest regards for Professor Haworth. While the subject matter is NOT easy, he does a fantastic job at trying to reach each and every student. He takes time to work with you and knows every name in the room (even with 100 people in class). Don't get me wrong the class is hard, but you couldn't ask for a better professor.
Professor Haworth is just plain and simple a great dude. He is super funny and makes the lectures very interesting. He was always super helpful when I went to office hours and was always super accessible. His tests are tough but the way his grading scale works, it is very manageable to get an A or B.
Haworth is extremely hard grader. That being said, he is also extremely helpful and the curve he gives will make you feel better about your terrible test grade. Never had harder tests. It IS possible to get an A, though. Haworth calculates effort into grading.
Dr. Haworth is very nice, funny, and entertaining! That being said, his class was incredibly hard for me. If you don't have a pretty solid grip of the material already, it can be hard. Tests? Very hard. He has an adjusted grading scale that helps, and his office hours are beneficial to attend, but they are not always enough help if you struggle.
Want to take the hardest business class imaginable? Take Haworth. He uses two whiteboards and runs between both of them losing you in-between. He is very unclear about his examples and cannot stay on one topic. Expect the hardest test of your life. Test consist of multiple choice and short answer, but both are designed to be as hard as possible.
Mr. Haworth is one of the best teachers/professors I have ever had. With that being said, if you don't like putting forth individual effort this is not the class for you. However, if you go to class, do the homework, do the practice exams, study, and attend his office hours, you can do it. He does take notice of your effort.
He is extremely helpful and truly wants his students to succeed. His tests can be difficult but he provides a lot of resources for you to study. He has a special grading scale that is in favor of his students.
Haworth is a great professor. He isn't easy, but if you care enough to make an effort you will pass. He sparked my interest in economics. Take advantage of his study hours to go over questions and homework.
He is a great teacher. You will learn lot if you are willing to learn. He responds very quickly to your emails if you have any questions. He inspired me to major in economics because i received A's in both Econ 201,202 but 302 made me regret my decision again. Ended up majoring in Finance but still have things from Barry's class I need today!
I enjoyed taking this class, his lectures are interesting but the exams are very difficult. There is a generous curve, but the class is still very hard. Plus, there are only 2 tests and a final that's worth 40 or 60% of your grade, so if you mess that up, you're screwed.
Prof. Haworth saved my Econ grade. He was extremely helpful. Very responsiveness to emails, very clear, and has super helpful office hours! Study the homework for tests! Would highly recommend - great professor for a difficult course. Also he is funny.
I thought he was a really good professor when it came to lectures and providing outside help to students that asked for it but I think the material goes over a lot of peoples heads and he expects a lot from students. The tests were impossible.. thats why in his class a 50 was still a C. For a non-Econ major I would not suggest taking his class.
Can't help but respect the guy but his class is tough. Attendance is not officially mandatory but you don't have much of a choice. Tests are extremely difficult. He's helpful if you decide
Professor Barry spends the full hour lecturing, but is always available to help during office hours. He will help, but only to the extent of the effort you put in. He is a tough teacher, but will give you the guidance to succeed. His tests are hard as evidenced by an 85 being an A in the class. He incorporates good humor and real life into lectures
Very funny guy. Made lectures entertaining. The subject was a lot harder than I expected but he sets up the class in such a way that even if you struggle during the semester, you have a chance at redemption at the end. Super available with his office hours although I was never able to attend.
Barry is a great guy. Attendance is not mandatory but will work in your favor if you attend. There are six pop quizzes, four homework assignments, two midterms, and one final. Be prepared to pay full attention and seek help when you fall behind. He is very flexible with his office hours and provides help to those who show sufficient effort.
Go to class and do the homework and you will do well on the exams. If you have questions, ask. He does a great job explaining the concepts. The short answer section of the exams comes straight from the homework.
Attendance isnt mandatory, but is recommended that you show up. For short answers, most of the points come from knowing the concept behind the problem, not the mathematical answer.
Honestly, not a fan of his personality and his voice puts me to sleep but he knows what he's talking about, he schedules extra office hours around tests and homework, and the class is curved. Would take again.
Hard class but great professor. He really knows his Econ but attendance is necessary. 4 homeworks and 6 quizzes for extra points. The two midterms and finals make up most of your points. If you attend class regularly he does as much as he can to make sure youre ready for the tests and is friendly toward your grades.
Haworth is the best professor I've taken at U of L. He is a great teacher because he makes his lectures interesting and is extremely funny. His tests are hard, and he gives a couple quizzes. However, he gives homework that he will help you with before you turn it in. He also will bump you up a letter grade if you show him you're a hard worker.
His lectures are often pretty engaging, and they are absolutely essential to succeed in this course. His exams are based mostly off lecture notes and online homework, and I never used the book. The pop quizzes tend to be fairly easy to get full credit for. Practice the problems, ask questions, and go to office hours to maximize chances of success.
Professor Haworth makes it crystal clear what you need to do to get an A in the class. Go to class, as his exam questions come directly from in class material. Go to office hours, as he gives you the answers to homework and appreciates your effort. Exams take every bit of an hour and fifteen minutes, but it's a manageable class.
Barry Haworth is one of the best professors I've had at UofL, but also by far the hardest. You will have to work your butt off for an A/B. Very difficult tests but he gives you the necessary resources to help you and will help those who attend class regularly and COME SEE HIM DURING OFFICE HOURS. I got a low C on the first test, ended class with A+
I liked him and the office hours he gave were very helpful, but the class itself is not easy at all. I was worried about failing the whole time, and while I felt like he couldve explained things in a way which made them easier to understand, I did like the fact that he offered extra chances to students who went out of their way to go to office hrs
Very caring and funny professor. He is very easy to access outside of class for questions and help, he will even bump your grade if you show above and beyond levels of effort in his class. Grades are clear and he tells your your current grade after each exam as well.
Unless you need it, don't buy the textbook. It is a waste of money. Possibly the hardest teacher I have had. But he does know the material extremely well. He is also glad to help after class. I would only take him if you are prepared for an extreme challenge. Go to his office hours, he really appreciates when students do that. Overall very good.
getting an A in this class is damn near impossible your best bet is to just stay away
Mr. Haworth is extremely knowledgeable about what he teaches. His class is far from easy. However, he'll help you as much as he can. He's funny, caring, and takes it easy on grading. I'm very grateful I had him during my first semester of college.
Had Haworth for Macro 202. He is a good professor, clearly knows his stuff and makes the content graspable. Unfortunately, most of his assignments are littered with questions that seem to be deliberately constructed to be as confusing as possible. his class isn't as hard as people make it out to be, but it'd be worth checking out other professors.
He is a approachable guy. You need to take your notes on paper because he uses graph knowledge extensively. Supply/Demand AE and AS/AD one are the big ones.
hardest class ive taken in college
prof haworth's class is tough but he's overall a really good professor. accessible outside of class almost all the time & really understanding. don't bother buying the textbook, he didn't open or refer to it once. make sure u take notes & attend class as a lot of the material on his daily questions, hw, & exams are based on those (all open note)
He is great and covers everything possible in introductory economics. Lots is covered, and there is a great mix of graphing situations and exploring concepts. He wants you to reach out and remain engaged outside of class, and will remember who does (and doesn't). Highly recommend for economics students, but stay away for those seeking casual A's.
He's a good guy and a good teacher but his tests are hard, and he moves kinda fast so missing even a day of class will probably result in playing serious catch up.
Barry Haworth is a fabulous professor, BUT you have to apply yourself. if you show him you care about his class you'll do well. Definitely go to his office hours, even if you aren't struggling. My only regret is not going to him for help sooner when I was struggling.
Professor Hayworth is a good teacher, but his grading standards and tests are far, far too high for an introductory class. Cannot recommend him for any lower-division students or anyone not extremely committed to studying Economics.
if you want to pass but actually learn he is the right proffesor. If you just want to pass the class without effort this class is not for you.
Haworth makes his exams as confusing as possible on purpose. He is not as difficult as many people say--but he is not a good professor. Exam questions routinely have 6 or even 8 different answers. That should not be necessary in a 200 level class. Lots of lecture content was never tested. He was on a bit of a power-trip for certain things. ~ R
This class can be difficult, but if you show effort and come to his office hours the class very doable. He will go over your homework with you and homework is one of the biggest study tools that you'll use for exams. He is also very clear about when certain assignments are due.
Save your sanity and your grade and just find another professor, I worked very hard the first half of the semester in this class and it is nearly impossible to do decent in this course. This professor lacks professionalism, and you are mainly only graded over exams and 4 homework assignments which are just online quizzes. I had to drop this course.
Attend the lectures because information given in class is not posted to anywhere else. He provides papers that give a basic explanation to the lecture but no in depth detail. Has practice tests and old exams posted that helped a lot when it came to exams. He's not bad but if you don't have your stuff together academically don't take him.
Haworth is a great guy, and he's a great professor if you can put in the effort. If you show him you are trying, he will help you out however he can. Grade is fully based on 3 tests and 6 homeworks. Go to office hours and the optional discussion sessions! They are so incredibly helpful.
