Tests are fair. To do well, you MUST go to class, do the homework, buy & use the solutions manual, and study for tests. He does tend to be impatient with questions, probably because class-time is limited. But he will help before class & during office hours. Overall, a good teacher, especially for a math professor.

I've taken this professor since MAT0024.. He teaches you what you need to know to pass his class and the departmental finals.. He teaches you the easiest way of doing things.. Im not strong in math, and i even took 6 years off (military) before doing a math class.. 3 classes 3 A's.. cant go wrong here!!

This guy was the best math teacher that i ever had. He explained everything and made sure you could understand it. I think he said that he was still going to school when i took his class, thats why he was teaching pre-algebra and not college algebra. Everything was right from the book and the quizzes were for the most part, plus he went over them.

This Prof. Is very good at teaching math. He tends to go fast at times so pay attention and ask questions if you have to. He is very helpful and kind. His tests can be tricky at times. I got an A, but worked very hard for it.

I am taking his online class and I can say for sure that he is very helpful and knowledgeable. He is very clear and the exams are straight from the book. Just do the homework and watch the videos. You will do fine. Class is not very easy but it is not hard. Take him and you will not regret.

I just finished my statistics final exam. The course was very well organized. Topics were clear, very helpful and knowledgeable professor, quizzes and tests straight from the homework, and the videos were extremely important. Thanks Professor Macfarlane!

Honestly, this professor is what I expect from a postsecondary teacher. He is knowledgeable and cares about students. Any comments against his teaching method are unfair. Maybe these students should remember that they are not in high school anymore. I recommend him for everyone!!

This professor is the best, if any student says he's bad there lying and there lazy. I'm not good in math at all but this professor breaks math down to the point my little brother can understand. I took him in person so I don't know how he his online. Plus he replaces your final with your lowest test grade.

Very good teacher, he's fair and is willing to help in class and via e-mail. His tests are not tricky, pretty straight forward.I would reccomend taking him, as I did well and I'm not good at math. You just need to be willing to put in the work.

Barry is AWESOME. If you want to learn STAT and get an A you really need to take him. The best Math prof. at BCC, I wish I knew that before I would take him for all math classes.He is excellent. I highly recommend him to everyone.

Magnificent! I hated math until I took him for col alg and stats this summer. He is ALWAYS willing to help! Clear and to the point. In all my 14 years of school he is honestly the BEST teacher I've ever had. He really knows how to explain what he's teaching and you can tell he loves doing it. College is all about the teacher.. So pick him!

I liked that HW for col alg and stats was optional b/c then you did it for your own good and not to get it done for the duedate. 3 tests + final. Straight forward, if you do the HW it's baiscally the same Q's. Wish I could take him again. Superb teacher, take him, you won't regret it.

Barry Macfarlane is a great guy. I took him for Mat0028, Mat1033 and Mac1105. I got an A and 2 B's. He's clear, helpful, and knows his stuff. I will always look for him for any math courses in the future and recommend him to everyone. Plus, he's really funny!!

I took Professor Macfarlane during the summer for both Sta 2023 and Mat1105. I really enjoyed his class and makes the materials easy to understand. I don't need any more math so sadly I will not be able to take another class with him. He is very quick to give your grade back. I had a good summer thanks to Barry:)

This was a Math Redesign class. It was exteemely difficult (especially if you are not good at math). However, Mr. Macfarlane as a professor was great! I would've Loved to take him for a regular lecture class!

Invaluable to the college. The book was required - everything is book-based. I did well in Liberal Arts 1, taking College Algebra with him now. It's more challenging but passable like all classes. I wanna take Liberal Arts 2. I recommend 'em.

This professor is very understanding and has a nice easy going personality. He doesn't bother you if your late and asks that you sign in to account for your presence. class is a waste to buy the book. exams are very hard. No study guide or review. you don't really know what to expect. He uses power points. Don't recommend him if u want an easy A.

Awesome teacher. He is always before the class starts and write the whole class on the blackboard. All he teaches is on the book. Make the exercises cos' the tests are the same exercises with different values. Practice your homework and you'll pass the class. Excellent Professor. One of the best in Broward College!!!

Prof. Macfarlane is awesome! Math is my weakest and least favorite subject. He made learning easy, and created a strong foundation for me in math. Show up, do your work and Aleks, and you will pass. You get what you give. He is willing to help anytime you want it. The tests are all MC and reflect the classwork. He is HIGHLY recommend.

Prof. Macfarlane is great teacher. He is organized and advances chapters as planned. He is there if you need help and makes sure students understand before moving on to the next topic. He replies emails quickly and he cares about his students. Homework is not graded but it's a must if you want to do well on tests. I learned a lot from his class.

The class is great so far except u have to have do the homework in order to pass the tests. I only wish it wasn't the night before the test, we should have it due the night of the test or the day after, if its for grades, puts a strain on my other classes definitely

Very helpful; Math is definitely my Achilles heel but if you are willing to make a little bit of an effort he will meet you half way, He is very big on aleks but can make it flexible if you make your concerns known. Lectures are all videos and stops between to clarify on certain things you can work with the class on the worksheets at end of class.

If you take his notes, you will pass. I never used my book (waste of money). He only has 4 test and the lowest is dropped. Also, his final holds the same weight as his other exams. Love it. You could actually not take the final if you pass the other exams and get a "B"

I was dreading taking this class because math isn't my best subject, however Professor Macfarlane made this class more bearable for me. He was always there to provide his students with extra help and cared about whether or not his students learned. I would highly recommend this professor to others. A++

Mr macfarlane helped change my entire perspective of math in general. I have always dreaded math, but he understands that not everyone learns or understands it in the same way, and he is super patient. Great sense of humor, and extremely nice guy. I wish all teachers were like him! Would totally recommend to anyone.

Professor Macfarlane is so helpful and nice! He explains everything down to the tiniest detail. Each chapter is on a different subject. The homework is optional but if you want an A you should do it, it really helps! There are only the chapter tests, final exam and a group project for your grades.

This is my first time actually rating a professor. He is awesome I would recommend him to every one that's taking math. As long as you go to class and pay attention you are sure to pass! Great, Great teacher! I am awful at math, I was very happy with finding that this class is pretty laid back. He does not give any homework or extra credit. He only gives chapter tests. This could either make you or break you, but if you pay attention to the powerpoints he goes through in class, you really shouldn't have a problem. highly recommend

BEST. PROFESSOR. EVER. I loathe math, I am terrible at it. But, Professor Macfarlane is absolutely amazing. He isbat the math lab twice a week and he explaine everything as many times as you need. Very funny professor. No extra credit. So, what you get is what you get. He suggests homework from the back of the book, but it is completely optional.

Professor gave us no homework so for the whole class, the only thing you were graded on is the tests, which were easy . bought the book for class but found myself barely touching it. unless your really really bad at math, you dont need it. Mr. Macfarlane is an AMAZING TEACHER!! I suck at math and he made the lectures very clear and explain any questions. Does tutoring after class two days out the week. HIGHLY recommend you to go to those before test dates. Only 4 test 20 questions each and no final drops lowest test grade. Can only miss 3 class then you get dropped or an F.

Prof MacFarlane is a great professor. I'm TERRIBLE in math & couldn't pass multiple math classes expect his. He does assign homework but not mandatory to do, it's more of a study guide since he doesn't really give one. When he does do notes he TELLS YOU WHATS ON THE TEST. 4 tests, 1-3 he drops the lowest grade. No final. TAKE HIM!

I'm horrible at math, but Professor MacFarlane makes it so easy to learn! He's very thorough and makes sure you understand the material before proceeding to the next topic. In Prof. MacFarlane's class right now and I'm very happy. His math lessons are very clear and he will explain it in many ways if someone isn't getting it. Had two holidays off, we were pressed for time, he got through it all with time for a review for our test. He is funny/sarcastic but maintains respect for the students and the lesson.

Professor Barry is a very great professor. He gives mylabs plus, but dont run from it. It will help you to prepare you for your exams. Four class exam and the lowest grade will drop. Take him, you will pass. He explain in details and that is what you want for stat2023. You have to choose a good professor. This class is not a walk over

STA2023 was my least favorite math course. It was so much different than algebra (in a bad way, for me). But professor M did his best to make it bearable. If I didn't have another difficult course along with this, I could've gotten an A. Take him, he's great!

Professor Macfarlane is a great professor. He is incredibly organized, so you always know exactly what to expect in his class. Therefore, he also expects YOU to do what he asks as well (homework, studying, etc.) He is very nice and seems to truly care about his students. Okay, I HATE math. Before his class, I never got anything higher than a C- in math. I was so close to an A in his class (I ended up with a B+, which I'm still happy with!). He is SO funny, SO caring and SO nice. Just MyLabs as homework is required, but he gives you 3 weeks to finish. EASY. Tests are easy! He gives A LOT of extra credit chances!

Took this class as a transient student and I am really glad I did! Professor Macfarlane is amazing! He goes through so many examples in class and breaks everything down so well. The hardest part about Calculus is the ALGEBRA! If you have a solid foundation in Algebra, you should be fine. Also, no access code needed for the summer :D

You must do Aleks to learn the material, Professor Macfarlane will only go over a few problems that students find to be most troublesome in class. His test are easy if you do your homework- Aleks. As soon as you finish the class worksheet, you can leave class. He is very nice, respectful, and willing to teach. Easy A if you put in the work.

Graded on 3 tests, a final, and the homework - all equally weighted. Showing up is super important and the more you participate in class the better off you'll be. Doing the homework helps prepare you for the test but he gives an opportunity to polish up the homework at the end of the semester. He is a solid choice, as he knows his material.

He is the nicest most caring profesor I have had yet, he opened up all my labs assignments at the end of the course to help bump your grade and drops your lowest test grade!! Honestly if you go to class, take notes, and do the homework his class should be a breeze

Professor Macfarlane can seem a bit eccentric at first, but is very bright and cares deeply about his students. He was always available outside of class to explain problems that where giving me issues. He uses mymathlabs, but he modifies the homework regimen to cut out some of the over the top problems that you won't see on the tests.

Mr Macfarlane is a super fair and amazing teacher. He is super understanding and humanistic: he cares about his students and will accommodate for any issues that happens in your personal live. I definitely would recommend taking him.

Barry was a great professor, took him for calc 1 four days a week. The first day would be consist of us going over the theorems and the second day would be examples. He was clear about what would be on tests so there weren't any surprises. The test questions were usually similar to the examples done in class, so make sure to understand the ex.

This is the homie!! He's funny and you will definitely learn. It's a math course, clearly you still have to do work. He's understanding and a cool teacher. His favorite line is "You know what im talkin bout?" lol

I suck at stats! He tried his best to provide every resource out there to help us. He will tell you where to borrow a calculator instead of buying one. The textbooks came with the access code online. So no need to purchase a book unless you dont like ebooks. He did tried his best, it was our job to grab the informations provided. No extra credit!

He is a good teacher, don't be afraid to ask questions, he will help you. Do the examples because they are similar to the questions that might be in the test. Pay attention, don't be afraid to participate in class, and don't be afraid to reach out to your classmates. Make sure you show your work for test.

I was pleasantly surprised by this class! His lectures are really helpful, make sure to take notes as they were very useful in studying/completing the homework. I did well on every test by doing extra math problems in addition to the homework as a review on mylab. He also drops your lowest test score. Teaches very well and is a great professor!

I took him once in the fall, he was a very kind hearted man and made it seem like he wanted to be there which is all I really needed. His teaching pace differs at times sometimes he goes faster than usual and other times he takes his time, either way I would take him again, no doubt.

This a great Stats professor. Even though I did not pass the course, that had nothing to do with the professor. He explains things clearly, gives good examples, and is very relaxed. I think most of the class enjoyed him. Take it if you can!
