Teaches class like he expects you to know the material. Goes slow enough so that those who slacked off in other bio classes can catch up. Very clear on expectations. You can miss 120 points and still get a B in this class. Excellent Prof

Pretty much gives the lecture on line before you go to class. Is thorough. Lab and lecture well aligned. Encourages class participation, provides answers on hand outs. streamlined curriculum. Very clear, easy to understand.

Lots of test which is good for your grades. Idiotic mannerism, labs are easy and flow with lectures. Grading is anal

There are exams for each chapter so there isn't much to memorize all at once. Labs go with lecture. Answers to previous semesters exams are on blackboard. Outlines of chapters are graded, so they are basically free points to boost grade.Take him.

Anal Grader...but...best teacher I ever had. Might take Virulogy for fun. Quiz everyweek on Microbes and Test every other week. Understand concepts and not just straight up memorization. Pop lab quizes so be prepared. Many grades to get B.

DrM is very nice and HELPFUL. his tests are wierd: some very detailed and some very broad. Loves football. Makes you figure out lab protocol before experiments

Hilarious prof...he should do stand up (seriously). He made a difficult class interesting. His lectures were very clear and the final was a lot easier than I had expected. Beware of the lab quizzes, though! They kicked my ____ the whole year.

Honestly,This class is one of those that you work so f-in hard in and dont get much result back.Lab tests are easy if you study, exams are kinda hard, but the unknown project...expect to do badly even after you have written it and tweaked it for two weeks before the due date.

this was definitley a challenging class, but dr. m's lectures were very interesting. he was always there to help, and never just gave you an answer to your question. instead he helped you come to the answer yourself which helped you to learn more. must study and unknown paper is hard, but dr. m is one of the best professors i've had

Lecture wouldn't be that bad if the overachievers didnt ask so many "well what ifs..". The unknown paper isnt that hard, its just that he doesnt make it clear what he expects. Lab is interesting and easy and helps ur grade.

HI Dr. Margulies-- (btw he looks at this regularly) He is a great proffessor-- the unknown paper is a apin in the butt-- he needs to hand out a sample of a perfect paper-- he's so picky- even after I had my paper proofread twice. Be prepared for clas and you will do well.

He's great! Took awhile to get used to his online tests, but he was very fair. Definately bring his outlines to class and at least skim the book. If you have questions, ask them ASAP. Prepare for the lab pop quizes, you might need the points. You can drop certain grades, but every grade will count in the end. Great teacher had a lot of fun.

He was a great professor.PICKY with grading but its for our own accuracy and understanding of the material.Jokes sometimes corny but made class fun.examples and demos where helpful to understand the material in a different perspective, apporachable and helps with questions outside class time. Take this teacher if you take med micro.

I think that Dr. Margulies is a great teacher. He is challenging and makes you think (the best teachers always do). The course material is difficult but he presents it in a very "student-friendly" way, easy to understand and with real world applications. I would highly recommend him to anyone going into a career in biology or allied health.

I think Margulies is the epitome of an excellent teacher. Don't be intimidated, he is easy to talk to, not to mention extremely helpful and funny. Grades hard but you learn so much from his class. Don't take this course and think you can even miss one lecture, every class is important. I hope all students can experience a teacher of this caliber.

Dr. M is a wonderful professor. This is a tough class, so don't think u r getting an easy ride. Dr. M is in fact very approachable. He wants his students to try and think logically through problems rather than expect the answer being given to them. If you are an open-minded individual,taking this class will be a worthwhile learning experience.

Heres an idea, do you ever think that maybe teachers give you information not b/c it will be on a test but maybe b/c it will be important to know in the future. They dont teach you this stuff b/c they like to hear their own voice. Dont be so near sighted.

the best class i have ever taken at towson as a biology major! I like his teaching style, and his expectations are very clear;however, the test was kind of scary.....i'm not sure that studying the material more would have even been helpful.

He's an excellent professor. Very approachable and very willing to help. He'll make you think, and not just memorize the facts. Another bonus is that he records each lecture as an MP3 file, so you can go back and review stuff if needed. Take him for Med Micro, he's definitly one of the best.

Excellent teacher! His tests are very hard- that is not a lie, but he is probably the best teacher I have had in college. You will learn so much from him, and he really cares about his students. He loves to teach, and it shows. He is available for extra help, and I think he is VERY helpful! People just need to learn his testing style. Take him!!

What are these people smoking? Dr. M. is the clearest prof I ever had. He's also incredibly helpful! Who else holds review sessions for every topic he covers? He might not always be available, but I always get all my questions answered. Exam questions give you a chance to show what you really know, instead of crappy multiple guess.

I wish more people wouldn't bash Dr. M. I can honestly say I have learned more from him than any other professor. His tests are hard, but coming to every lecture does help. He'll tell you everything you need to know in lectures, and allows time for answering questions you don't get. STUDY for his exams-its not impossible to get an A if you try HARD

This is a very interesting class, and Dr. M, is definitely one of the bests teachers @ Towson. He loves to teach. This class is not impossible, but you must put forth great effort. Essay tests kinda tricky, but final was EASY. Assigns fairly easy assign. which help your grade...and he drops some grades. You will WORK and LEARN in this class.

Wonderfully, Barry values critical thinking and application over memorization. Very difficult class, but man, do you learn a ton--and you remember it all afterwards! He's a great guy, very personable and approachable, terrific to listen to--he makes lecture something to look forward to. All in all, probably the best class of my college career.

Margulies is one of Towson's best kept secrets! If an irreverent style intimidates you or rubs you the wrong way, don’t take his class. But if you have a sense of humor, you won’t find a smarter professor at Towson who has a personal interest in every one of his students and will greet you by name in the hallway 2 years after you took his class.

Margulies is one of the best professors I've had for a biology at Towson. You can actually learn from him if you attend class regularly and take nots. He goes out of his way to explain concepts in more than one method, and makes the extra effort to genuinely get to know everyone.

Extra credit, funny, teaches material well, gives good analogies, essay exams, onine quizes, Lab notebook checks(easy), simpifies most material and does not expect detailed memorization. Take the ta's lab section though, he grades easier. drops 2 notebook checks 1 exam and 2 quizes

I have to say, Dr. M is a great teacher. He is hard but welcome to 300 level courses. To those who wrote those crappy things about him grow up and man up. To you who said you were a Strait A student- Go back to community college you P.O.S. Dr. M gives all the help you ask of him. His tests are very easy if you study the material.

Best teacher I have ever had, a truly funny and brilliant man. Not easy but it isn't supposed to be. Does a spectacular job of explaining the material. Puts forth a lot of effort into the lectures, uses differential learning tech. He records every lecture and lots of extra credit. Tests will make you use your brain and not just regurgitate material

I would definitely recommend taking Margulies. He takes challenging material and presents it in a way that you can understand, and, more importantly, REMEMBER. Studying is definitely a must, though. He wants you to do well and will drop some grades at the end of the semester.

AMAZINGGGGGGG prof!!! He does everything he can to make sure you understand, asks you 3x before he goes on to make SURE you have no more questions. I took a few classes with this young chap and I must say that to succeed one must try. He doesn't give it to you, he leads you to it. Self discovery is the key to his game. Study Hard and you can achieve it. And a wise man once told me he is one sexy guy!

I cannot believe people would actually say bad things about this professor. They are clearly very lazy, selfish and wont make it very far in life. I took Dr. Margulies's class three semesters ago and loved it. I cannot wait to take his Virology course in the spring. He is exremely clear when lecturing. And will do anything to help you. I am very curious as to some individuals life choices when they rip a prof apart because they had to work hard or didn't get an easy A. Its hilarious that other people came here to check out his ratings right after his test. Marguiles is great in lecture, but his tests are ALL writing "essay" type format and there are only 3-5 questions on the test. You study so much material to get tested on the most random things. NO study guides given you wont know whats going to be on exams!!!!

Class is not mandatory but I suggest you attend religously. His exams are hard, they're all essay and you must think. Studying is a must for this class and you will do alot of it. You can get an A.

Dr. Margulies is the best professor in Smith Hall you can get. If you want an A, you have to study for it. If you want help, he is there for you. Be honest with yourself, if you don't want to work and learn, then don't take him. Otherwise, I'd recommend Dr. Margulies over any other science professor.

Honesty Margulies is a great professor However med micro is no joke! It requires a lot of attention and studying but he makes it easy for you. He dosent do the standard exams, 1 is a video, oral, and written, and he gives quizzes to help boost your grade. He can be a smart ass and his jokes or CORNY but he's truly a great professor

I took his Microbiology and loved him !!! He is one of those professors who knows his subject inside out, ask him anything and he knows. He is awesome, yes he has tough standards but he follows them too. He teaches very well and make sure you understand him. I love the way he gives the exams - 1 oral, 1 verbal and 1 written, just loved it !!!

Virology is really fun!! Great professor! The class is challenging and the exams are probably not what you are used to. The class does not grade what you know, so much as how you can think and apply your knowledge. Corny jokes aside, a really great and fun class!

He's a great bio teacher. Yes the class is hard, but its BIO so it should be hard. As long as you spend time reading over your notes and occasionally looking at the textbook you will be fine. He has high expectations but he is clearly helping you set up a very solid path especially if you are a science major of some sort. Mandatory attendance. Lectures are made as for basic learners, but you have to study and then you will get an A or B. He has no pity for lateness or missing class. Nice person.

Bio is bio, so it's not an easy class. However Dr. M is great. He breaks down concepts and makes them as simple as he can. He really knows his stuff. I went in for office hours a few times, and he was very helpful. He encourages students to ask for help- take advantage of it! He really is a great professor.

Hello undergrads, I am a current medical student and I had Dr. Margulies for Virology. I just had my frist exam in med school (after being out of school for 3 years) and I wanted to say that Dr. Margulies taught the material so well that I was a step ahead of most of my classmates. He actually did a better job than my professor here!!

This class was extremely hard. It's a lot of chemistry. So much information. I had to drop the class and I never have had to do that before. Test are extremely difficult. You have weekly quizzes. Labs aren't fun or easy. He is willing to help but it's a very hard subject to understand. Do not take this class if you don't have to.

Prof Margulies speaks like he is teaching graduate students. You really have to study and attempt to understand the material before attending lectures. There's a quiz every week, but some quiz grades are dropped. There were 3 tests, a mid-term, and a final. Go to his office hours when you can and don't fall behind. VERY complex wording on quizzes.

Dr. Margulies is a great, funny and laid-back instructor. He has a great method of teaching and this was my most enjoyable course that I ever took at Towson. Practical approach to the course and not just memorization of information. He helped us apply the information and I gained tremendously from the course. I highly recommend Dr. Margulies.

Dr. Margulies is really nice and very knowledgeable. You HAVE TO STUDY to do well in this class. He is willing to help and clarify things. Be prepared though, because the midterm and final are based on creating hypothetical experiments, but he doesn't really teach about that in class.

One of the best Bio profs! He def knows his material. He takes the time to make sure you get the concept he's teaching, which is at a collegiate level. He custom fits his lessons to make sure the class understands the ideas. I regret not having him for 201. Had I had him for 201, I feel I would've been more prepared for my upper level bio courses.

He's a great teacher in my opinion. He explains things well and if you don't understand something he is glad to re-explain it in a different way. Attendance isn't mandatory, clickers are used to take attendance, but it's extra, easy points. There are a lot of quizzes and tests but I think it all helped me learn the info better.

12 quizzes, drops the lowest two. Lab was the only thing that saved me. I would study forever for the quizzes and still get a 2040 no matter what I did. He really knows his stuff, but teaches the class like its a grad class. Very very tough grader. Passed with a C-.

Wow ! He's really rude and very unapproachable. I went to talk to him about a problem I had and he basically told me he couldn't help me. He gives 5 multiple choice and an essay ! He's a tough grader on essays and the lab reports. As time progress you will begin to dislike him ! Trust me !

He has a thing for joking a lot and may give you an attitude. I never went to office hours. Lectures are boring and covers only a little. Class is set up for you to read, take an online quiz (really just homework) on the reading, and he picks topics many get wrong on those quizzes for lecture. Quizzes every week, tough grader. Definitely take his class. As long as you read the material, pay attention during lecture, and BRING YOUR CLICKER, you will do great. If you need any help, go to his office hours. He makes a lot of dad jokes but just joke back. He's not a bad professor. After Lab, he goes over the upcoming examlet which helps your grade as long as you study.

Lectures are interesting and he's hilarious. Examlets(mini tests) can be super difficult because there are 5 questions, each worth 4 points and 1 short answer worth 20 points. The final was almost impossible... completely killed my grade. Had a B the entire semester but ended with a C+ due to final even though I spent hours studying for it.

Dr. Margulies is enthusiastic and certainly knows his stuff. Can be daunting if you haven't taken any biology courses in the class. Study on your own and you'll be fine.

This class is a pretty typical college class. Dr. M knows his stuff really well. He explains it clearly. Make sure you study, there's about 12 tests and a final. STUDY STUDY STUDY. He puts his notes and recordings of his lectures on blackboard. I NEVER studied which got me a C+. My friends I sat with always did and all have B+ and A- in this class.

This course in general is tough, if you put in the effort you will get the grade. He cares for his students as he gives out many extra credit opportunities and drops the lowest exam score. There is an exam every week but he posts study guides that are helpful and has office hours. Dont expect to pass without going to class. He posts lecture videos.

Professor Margulies is great. He knows what he's talking about and he tries his best to clear up any confusion. He posts his lectures online which is helpful, but participation is counted via an electronic clicker (so skip if you so choose, but I wouldn't). Honestly, the material is straight forward and you can ask for help if needed.

Dr. Margulies is a great guy. He's incredibly helpful and knows what he's talking about. He gives out a TON of extra credit, so even if you're not a great test taker, you can have a C average and still get an A- or A in the course. He's always available during his office hours and tries to make the lectures and labs as entertaining as possible.

If you go to every lecture and take good notes youll pass. Do all homework. It may seem like a lot but the hws are extremely easy. If you do them all youll have ample extra credit. Lots of Dad jokes but the information is presented well and thoroughly explained. The use of clickers helps keep the class engaged and helps students learn more.

Dr Margulies is the king of virology, and also the king of the cheesiest/cringiest dad jokes imaginable. His class is one of the most difficult I have ever taken. 2 exams, 9 quizzes, and a paper - that's it. Content is super heavy and he goes very quickly in an attempt to squeeze everything in. All in all, I would take him again. he is brilliant.

Professor Margulies is a great professor. The class can be very challenging if you let yourself fall behind. An A is definitely achieveable if you put the work in (rewatch lectures and do all the homework and assignments). He offers a ton of extra credit points so if you don't do great on a test you still can get a great grade.

Dr. Margulies definitely wants to help his students and understands that this course is very difficult, so he offers a TON of extra credit (like enough to cancel out the final exam). He makes a lot of dad jokes and talks really fast to try and cover all of the material, but he will repeat if you ask.

Dr. Margulies is a TOUGH grader. He wants your answers to be specific and detailed to demonstrate your understanding of the material. However, he's very caring, funny, and explains concepts very well. His lectures prepare you for the exams so studying outside of class is imperative.

By far my most favorite professor ever. He made lots of jokes and was pretty easy going. He offers many extra credit assignment and all grades weren't due until the day before finals start. The quizzes were weekly and timed however there were only 5 questions and always room to think instead of rush. I would recommend him to everyone if I could

By far, the best professor I've ever had! As a new transfer student, during a global pandemic, he made the semester feel less stressful & bearable. He has tons of "nerd" jokes (his words) that truly kept morale high. Lecture was interactive to gauge our understanding of each topic. Approachable, frequent office hrs, extra credit. Highly recommend!

I'm honestly surprised at how many low reviews Professor Margulies has because he is phenomenal! Cell biology itself is a handful to grasp but he actually takes the time to help you understand and improve in areas where you may be struggling. An A is achievable in his class if you take advantage of the chapter reviews, practices, and office hours.

Great guy. Towson is lucky to have him. he really tried his best to connect with us all on a personal level during the pandemic and i think he was successful in doing so. He explains everything and is easy to get into contact with. his assignments are easy if you pay attention in lecture.

Professor Margulies was funny and very engaging. He does have participation points but he opens up the questions for 24 hours so you can still get the points even if you don't attend class. His grading for the unit papers was a little confusing since I would literally get my answer from the textbooks and still get a bad grade. Overall great class!

I thought professor Margulies was a pretty solid professor! He gives lectures and feedback and if u dont understand something he will re explain it again. He does tend to go a bit fast but he will slow down if you ask him too. He was accessible outside of class as well. Most of his quizzes and test were all multiple choice.

Dr. Margulies is one of my favorite professors. His tests were not just regurgitating facts onto paper but made you think and make connections on your own. Textbook was crucial for my success and unit papers required alot of external reading and communication with Prof. Overall, the dad jokes and the interesting content was great! Be ready to work!

He gives no unit exams. The only exam we got for this class is the cumulative final exam. We have announced quizzes. He gives so many extra credit opportunities. Besides the fact that there are no other exam scores the class is okay.

I enjoyed Dr. Margulies class. He's funny but in a corny way. You can attend his lectures online instead of coming to class and we have weekly assessments where we can use our notes and textbook. He's the best bio teacher you can take for BIOL 200 in my opinion.

Great Professor. I prefer to attend class from online and it feels like I dont miss out on anything at all because he also records and post lectures so you can refer back to them later. Be prepared to take a open note quiz every week. He also sets up virtual office hours before each quiz. Definitely recommend.

Super cool professor. Extremely knowledgeable. Genuinely cares about his students well-being. Sometimes his analogies are confusing but they're always funny!! Lots of Dad jokes. He plays music before class and sings to himself. His lessons are CLEAR and CONCISE. I am grateful he is the one that taught me BIO intro. Made me love BIO even more!
