Dr. Mehler was a very interesting professor, but a bit weird
Great upper course instructor....makes you think
Real smart and knows what he is talking about, but strays from the topic

Nice teacher, very funny, tests were a little difficult tho.
Unique sense of humor, makes you think.
Very helpull I was about to drop his class got F's but he conviced me not to, B+
Smart guy, hard class, definatlly strays off topic alot, have to read the book
This dude is definitely off his rocker but a very good history teacher. Take him if you like history.
apparently he's a profesional writer, he's got a huge ego going on he's gods gift to writting, dull lectures
he's a little crazy, but he makes things interesting and he's very eager to help.

Not an easy man, but very helpfula nd kind when you're in trouble. Own personal take on histrory - but at least he is involved and committed. Recommended
Great professor

If you're not Jewish, don't tell him. Just nod and smile.
Good teacher. Compassionate, animated. Great lectures. 3 hour class and it went by really fast. Occassional nap, but generally interesting. Highly recommended
Just remember on his test's, its like being at Vegas, no matter how how much you practice (study) the game, its ALWAYS stacked in the houses favor!!. A.The dog was fast? B.The dog was qiuck? C. The dog was speedy? D. All the above? YOU CAN
go in with an open mind and if you differ in opinion, have the guts to defend yourself and your thoughts. he will respect and reward you.
Mehler is a typical left wing nutcase. He shows a complete lack of responsibility by imposing his dimented view of present day politics based on his ideaology, not the facts.Ferris should be held libel.
Best teacher i ever had. I have had 3 of his classes and want more. Never bored in his class. grades very easy. If you fail your first 2 test and get As on the last 2 you will get an A!!!! I wouldn’t say he is left wing but defiantly opinionated
worst prof ever
I HATED THIS GUY!!..HES THE BIGGEST **** ON THE PLANET! IF YOU ARENT JEWISH OR THINK HIS WAY YOU FAIL...I HATED HIS CLASS AND HE WAS SOOO BORING AND HIS TESTING METHOD SUCKS ASS!
Very interesting teacher. Everyone I know liked him. Not much for dates, just facts.Would recommend him to anyone. Tests are multiple choice. Very tricky. He says he tries to make answers completely wrong, but that's B.S. I look forward to take another cl
Best teacher I have ever had for history. Your expected to actually read the book, will certainly get a good grade if you do. Great lectures, very helpful. "IF YOU ARENT JEWISH" <- Your an idiot.. he doesnt pull that on anyone.
His test are super hard. He gives multiple choice test with but all of the above is a possibility way to much. He is kinda boring but is fair about his grade at the end of the class.
Worst Professor ever!!! For the midterm, he said he was going to give us an easy short answer quiz. It was a 20 question essay that half the class failed. Few of the questions were even anything we had talked about in class. Avoid him if possible.
His class was the hardest fricKin class. He was funny, but too much all about his jewish religion. Remember really hard class, not recommended.
His lectures are interesting and energetic. Tests are somewhat tricky but he tells you what to look for on them. He does'nt pull that jewish crap on anyone.
Don't believe what anyone else says! His lectures are energenic and he does role playing to make it more interesting. He post info on the web for you and the stuff that's on the test is highlighted. Easy to get an A!
his tests are so friggin hard..also i hope you like to take notes...however after saying that if you go to him and tell him you're having a hard time taking his tests he'll help you out..not bad but not great either
hard material, especially if you don't keep up with current events on your own.2 papers that are graded very easily, no true tests, but sometimes his so called quizes look like tests.only take if you like history and current events interest you.
This class makes you work for your A. But if you are determined and stay on track, it is possible. His tests are hard, all essay
His idea of grading sucks he really grades on if HE thinks that you worked hard enough for him. He bases your grade on a OPTINAL extra criedt assingment. He acts like it is a 300 level class. Do not take him if you have more important classes
He babbles on alot. His tests are very hard. He stands up in class and talks alot. He shows boring movies. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
this man has a problem, someting is really wrong inside of his head. I think that at times he has flashbacks, about the war, and pictures that he is there, do not take him HE IS CRAZY

Don't listen to everyones bias. He's a good teacher. He makes the context of the course fun by role playing and story telling. The fact that he is Jewish deserves respect if anything. I really liked him and his style of teaching.
not quite sure how exactly he comes up with the final grade, but the class was overall interesting. Wouldn't recommend him though

he is alright, but I wouldn't recommend him...
Barry Mehler, Ph. D. is a professor that acts out scenes. He makes you feel that you're there in the times in which he is teaching and relates them to the present. He is overall a pretty great guy it would seem to me, but that my opinion.
Very interesting class. A lot of work is required, but it is worth it. His tests are pretty hard and you really need to know the material, but I recieved a lot out of this class.
Easy Class. Dr. Mehler is a great teacher. He makes class very interesting. Lots of movies to watch in class. If your a history ed major take this class.

He definitely makes class interesting by giving his "performances" as he calls them. Not very hard, just go to class and get the notes, I hardly read any of the book. Good teacher, he knows his stuff very well. I would definitely recommend him.
Not a bad guy, but he's definately a liberal. Professors need to keep there opinions at home and teach what happened, not what they feel about what happened.
very funny guy
Funny guy gets boring after while but its a good class. Lives and Dies by tests
He's kind of weird. All his class is, is lecture. Nothing else, no homework, only tests and attendence are your grade. Very easy class to sleep in too. I don't know if he's boring or the class is, but as long as you print off his study guides and chapter outlines, you really don't have to pay attention to the lectures at all.
Yeah, he's funny...and interesting...but I don't find his classes easy at ALL. I've had two now and I still don't get him. No more history for me!
Great teacher that is very enthused about what he is teaching. Test are hard, but it all comes from the text. Would highly recommand this professor to anyone!!!
I have no clue what this class was even about. He would just ramble on about himself and then quiz us on very specific details about the book. Pretty much, you had to learn the information by yourself. Do not take. You will not learn much.
He is awesome! Just go to class and if u suck at test dont be scared he will make many exta credit ponts avail to make up for your downfall! I took hm and the class was great! Really enjoyed it, he is funny and make the class inteesting! And u dont have to attend class everyday! He was AWESOME!
I had Dr. Mehler for Hist 121 and 122. His lectures are very engaging and he is very good at theatrics and role playing history in the classroom. Dr. Mehler made history interesting for me and many other classmates. I would reccommend taking Dr. Mehler for History!
The stuff we talked about in class was in no way related to what tests were on. You defenitly had to teach yourself everything. I would never want to take a class with him again.
He is a very different teacher. He is very intelligent and can teach you a lot, if he stays in track. He likes to ramble on and it is hard to keep track of information. We did not have a textbook, all of it was online, which is nice. The subject matter is interesting, and i would recommend this course.
He is very busy and fast. He doesn't put a good guide line down for the test. Pretty much, teach yourself the material.
Dr. Mehler is one of the worst teachers I've ever had! He re-wrote the text book online so everything is his opinion, and if you don't agree you fail. Your grade will be based on your participation on his online message board. He doesn't know what he's doing ever and shows up atleast 20 minutes late for every class! Don't take any of his classes!
he is a great guy, but not for people who want their grade spoon fed to them. He took the info out of the book and put it into a word doc. so you don't have to buy the book. He also highlights all of the important info in the text.
Your grade is based on 4 tests! No homework. You must read all the notes posted online or you won't understand what's going on!
First of all this guy is a character. He acts out the emotions and feeling of historical figures during class and understands well the motives of history. Although he does get off topic sometimes it is necessary because he relates an event to another social trend which is what history is all about.
He's a pretty cool guy. Funny as hell w/ his lectures; doesn't care about management at Ferris and said he would come in w/ an Uzi... hilarious!
I had Dr. Mehler for a Terrorism in the Modern World class. This guy is so incredibly hard to follow, it's ridiculous. The department gave him WAY to much freedom with the class. He made us buy 2 books, one of which we NEVER used and the other which was more of a novel spreading propaganda about how America is an evil empire. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Dr. Mehler is a very unique professor. He doesn't just know history he understands it. While this may seem like the same thing, you will understand the difference if you have a class with him. He is animated and willing to help.
He likes to rant about people calling him a Marxist. Tends to repeat the same information over and over.
I took his history of the middle east class and was very disappointed with his way of teaching the class, or lact there of.
Mehler was pretty awesome He has so much knowledge. He knows his stuff and he is always willing to help I am glad i took his class
horribly boring. he knows his stuff but rambles off the point for litterally 90% of the class. he understands what he is teaching but doesn't go over what you need to know. class average is like a c-.
His class wasn't that bad, but it does require a little work. We watched movies, had interesting debates, and wrote essays. Majority of the class struggled but ask questions and make sure you're clear on what he wants and you'll be fine.
SO EASY! I showed up for maybe 50% of the classes and just so that I would know when exams were. I had an A- in the class--but without me saying a thing he gave me an A! Just the kind of guy he is. DO THE READINGS!! About 60-100 pages per exam, but easy understandable reading. That's it! No Notes! No Attendance! Just read the night before = A+++
Dr. Mehler is by far the most awesome professor. Even though he rambles on about stuff not directly relating to the text or material, he presents history in a way that even a person who HATES history would love it. He is very funny and makes people think about what he is talking about and how they are related. No attendance. TAKE IF POSSIBLE.
Dr. Mehler is a great guy. People will say he is not clear about things, but really what you have to do is just think about things. That's all he wants us to do and I believe he is a great teacher for teaching the way that he is teaching. His class is not hard, he wants his students to succeed. Great professor.
I dropped this class after the first day! He did not say a word about History and rambled on about how our country was thriving when everyone smoked Camel cigarettes. He then said that everyone is predestined to get a certain grade, no matter how well you do on tests and other assignments. If he was kidding, he has a terrible sense of humor!
He's a GREAT professor. He does ramble, but not without reason. He explains the foundation of the country based upon tobacco & alcohol, not just CAMELS. The 'predetermined grade' has a REASSON behind it. I got an A by writing the OPTIONAL paper on predestination & I loaded it with sarcasm & made it look like a newspaper editorial. He's great!
Professor Mehler, is a nice guy and he means well, but unless you want to sit in class for and hour and fifteen minutes listening about his personal life and culture, I reccomend you pass on taking this class. He is very clear with directions, but rambles on the whole time about literally nothing, the class periods were a waste of my time.
Professor Mehler, is a nice guy and he means well, but listening about his personal life and culture was not my ideal History class. I didnt learn much. Grades can be based on "predestination"
If you like to think, take this guy. If just like to repeat what you are told, this guy isn't for you. He is a professor that makes you think and wants you to speak out against him. Most of what he says is satire, but they are all connected in some way. Everything was once thought to be true is no longer thought to be true.
To be honest the first day of his class worried me, but i stuck it out and he turned out to be a great teacher! He WANTS you to do well, and he will do about anything to get you were you need to be in the class if you just ASK him!
Instead of memorizing words and dates this class actually makes you think and really promotes thinking over learning. Although you do learn a lot more when you think rather than when you memorize.
he was amazing.. made class very interesting
Jack Daniels and Camel cigarettes. Be very familiar with them, and the Rolling Stones. Super easy class if you can just do some thinking. Journals are easy, he grades papers conservatively, and he lets you take exams as a group if you ask. I really liked him
Worst class ever. His lectures mean nothing, your grade is predestined and the tests are all over 50-60 pages he puts online. If you ask, he will let you take the tests in groups. Just make sure you ask!
Dr. Mehler is a genius. He is quite possibly the smartest human being I have ever met, and I feel that I have learned more from him then from any other professor at Ferris State because he tries to give us the tools to succeed outside of class. When I say that, I mean he wants us to think above all else. If you go to Ferris, you should take Mehler.
This guy is ridiculous. He doesn't actually teach you anything, other than useless, braggy info about himself. I know way too much about him and his "accomplishments" and his religion. All these people claiming he's a genius are misled. His incoherent rambling is just a guise. Seriously avoid! There are wayyyy better history prof.s
Such a great professor and a really intelligent and interesting person. All class periods are spent listening to lecture and you are required to turn in one journal a week of 250 words. No other homework is given and textbooks are not required. I would definitely recommend taking a class with Dr. Mehler... I know I will again!
His class was confusing and I did not much care for the teaching style, but he is a great professor and truly cares. If you like out of the box teaching styles you will like him. His classes are pretty easy and he gives you changes for extra credit.
He is weird to say the least the class is fairly easy as long as you readstudy the material.
It was his first time teaching this class but he was learning right along with us. In some instances I was further in the reading than him.
This class helped reaffirm that there are multiple ways to approach learning styles, and course objectives. This class truly supplemented my college career. The way that Dr. Mehler presents information is so off-the-wall that you HAVE to think. I think every person should have to take this class. It's amazing. Tests are easy. Easy A if you think.
Great, very smart professor. Keeps class interesting, but you have to do a lot of the "learning" on your own outside of class. He directs this learning well and I have learned more in this class than many others because of this.
The class is easy, Yes you have to do think outside the box, but I mean seriously its simple A. You get a mid term and a final, 2 papers and thats it. Along with some journals you need 12 to "pass" the class. Thats it. Your practice/ study guide is the same as the tests.
This was a tough class to take. It wasn't really because the material was difficult, but because the way it's presented is a bit confusing. I enjoyed that the class was interesting, because Professor Mehler presented things in a different perspective for every lecture, but I would have liked a little more structure to what I was learning.
Sympathy for the Devil was a great performance and Dr. Mehler really knows how to make his class interesting. I reccommend NOT listening to the song Sympathy for the Devil for at least 3 months prior to taking his class, for he plays it every day. He acts as the characters throughout history and made it really entertaining.
He's pretty much crazy and entertaining during class but assigns SO MUCH reading for tests. I had 30+ pages from his reading content. He babbles about nonsense in class and doesn't care if you show up. He has 15 or so journals assigned that are your own opinion. But the only grades are 4 exams, and that's all based on the reading.. way too much
He is funny yeah he runs his class like a show called sympathy for the devil. You are only graded on 4 tests so if you're good at tests then you'll do fine. If not wouldn't recommend his lectures tend to never make sense he as a person never makes sense. Hes the most confusing person I've ever met and doesn't put grades in EVER
This guy's lectures are crazy and sometimes not even pertaining to class but you always get something out of them. He doesn't make you go to class at all, or read but there are tests at midterm or finals
He gives four tests, and once you're done with a unit, you won't have to look at it ever again, not even for the final. He makes his own textbook so you won't have to buy one. There is also a weekly journal assignment, and you can write whatever you want in it. Class isn't mandatory, just make sure you read the units and you'll pass.
I had to drop his class. He lectured on things covered in a book online and his tests were literally the hardest tests Ive ever taken. Extremely unprofessional, cusses in class whenever he gets angry and screamed at a student who was on their phone.
Professor Mehler is quite the character. Has a lot of credibility in his field, however most of his lectures rarely ever pertained to the topic at hand but he was very interesting to listen to. Hilarious, but if you don't like cursing, you might not want to take him as he swears a lot. Don't be on your phone in class either, he will call you out.
Professor Mahler is a really nice guy and very funny. If you show up to class and ask questions, you will pass.
Just do yourself a favor a dont take his class. All Im going to say to put it nicely.
All lectures and boring teacher
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take this instructor. He gives you 3 quizzes a week and the questions do not make any sense at all. Just about everyone in my class is failing because of his ridiculous quizzes. He's seriously the absolute WORST instructor I have EVER had at Ferris and the community college I went to before. Also very unorganized!!
Professor Mehler is a good professor, unfortunately, the online setting does not work for him. The Canvas page was extremely unorganized and it was hard to know what was going on. The homework was only available through an access code as well. If you are on campus, I would recommend, if not, then no.
This guy is a complete nightmare. I took an entry level history course with him, and he made it seem like a 460+ class. He also swore at students when they asked questions he didnt feel were worthy of answering. Dude is completely unhinged and I honestly wish I couldve dropped this course, but it was the only thing that fit-Reflects poorly on FSU
I loved him as a person and as a professor but because of his Calvinist grading policy I ended up with a B.
This man deserves a raise and to work from home.
He cares about teaching.
Extremely truthful. If your wish is to learn about white-washed history, you'll want to move along. If you want to learn about actual history, including the many atrocities our forefathers committed, stay. Dr. Mehler does not pull any punches. Guest speakers were amazing.
Insightful
cool guy he's tenured
You guys are all vectors of disease
Vectors of disease
Vectors of disease. Excellent office hours. Love his hat
Following the Calvinist doctrine of Predestination, I randomly assigned him these rating, and they bear no relation on my experience with him in the classroom.
