This is THE best math teacher I've taken in my life! Class isn't at all an "easy A", but he explains problems so well that all students can clearly relate to them! Such a good teach, I took him for 2 courses.

Do the assigned homework, and ask questions. He is more than willing to help you until you get it. I wish he was teaching 253 this semester.

This is my second semester with professor Barry. His teaching style is awesome. For those of you who fear Math, he comes up with phenomenal ways to understand the material, and is always willing to help you learn the math in anyway he can. Think of Math as playing a sport (ex: Baseball and bowling) you'll do great. I suggest taking his class.

Highly recommend for any math class you need. He is genuinely helpful and pretty funny too. Managed to make one of my most difficult and loathed subjects feel fun and interesting. As long as you are respectful in his classroom he will do whatever it takes to make sure you understand the material. Without a doubt he is one of IVC's best.

Professor Pearlstein is very passionate & cares about his student's learning. I came into this class terrified because I had failed 3 times in HS. professor pearlstien changed the way i look at going to school. if all the teachers in college taught like him, i would pass with flying colors. never being good at math, i got a perfect score for the entire class because i attended every class and did all my homework. hes the best professor ive ever had.. He's funny guy. There is a sign in sheet but attendence isn't completely mandatory. He doesn't check the HW. He gives every student a chance as long as you talk to him and keep in touch to let him know what's going on. Really helped me out. Highly Recommend.

He is very understanding of those with math problems, never condescends, nor shows off that he knows more math than we do. Highly, highly recommended.

First of all, I HATE MATH. This was the second time I was taking the class, but my first time with Pearlstein. He made it so clear and was so helpful that I never did any homework except for what needed to be turned in. I even got an A. He was always willing to meet with students and help them untill they were sure they understood how to do it.

one of the best teachers at IVC, very helpful and he does not go against you and tries to give you the best grade you can possibly earn. Took his summer class everything went fast and i learned so much got a B++ and i missed like a week of school

great teacher. SUPER nice and funny. doesnt collect HW. Makes it so you CANT fail baisically. If you have a low grade, go uP to him and ask him what he can do and he will switch grades around and let you turn in late work. I had a C and went uP to him a week later i had an A!

He changed my feelings about math I worked so hard in his class & he got me to see how important it is Dont be rude or lazy in his class, he deserves better He works hard to make it as understandable as possible, took many classes w/him, not for an easy A but because he keeps it simple even on the hardest of math problems by focusing on technique.

Appearances are deceiving. He seems like a total nutty ADD professor, but whips out amazing tricks to help you out on the tests. Tests are not too bad. Take good notes during class, and do the homework. Between these two you basically have the test in front of you!

What an awesome professor! I haven't taken math in 10 years & Prof. Pearlstein was so great in making me understand everything. You are not required to turn in HW but if you don't do it, you will not understand the material. This class is super easy but you must come to class and take notes in order to do well. DUH! One of the best professors I've ever had- he made math accessible to someone who was convinced she suffered from discalculia; 10 years later, I still remember him. Take him if you are a student with minimal math aptitude- you'll be VERY happy you did.

Professor Pearlstein cares about and empowers his students. His lectures are well organized, clear and strategically planned. He makes difficult subject matter easy to understand. A bit all over the place but I would definitely recommend him to others, especially to someone who is struggling in math. He is very willing to help, although a BIT scatter-brained. Works out important problems before quizzes and really wants his students to learn.

He makes the class easy with his instruction (not that it is easy) and by taking the time to explain every students problem. he ensures that the subject is understood fully before moving on to another section. You leave the class NO LONGER confused! I vouch for his classes!

For those struggling w/Math, Prof. Pearlstein is the guy for you! He explains things very clearly! Quizzes, take-home tests, 2 midterms and 1 final. Gives you practice exams ahead of time! Can get boring if you're good at Math though, because he'll keep explaining easy/basic math problems if the class is silent and doesn't say "we get it, move on!"

Once again I have passed with Pearlstein. I took 351 and 353 with two other professors and got a D in both sbjs. I re-took these course with Pearlstein and passed with B's in both courses. He's wacky and great at teaching. He has 1000 ways to do a math problem. His quizzes are based off hw and the study guide for the mids is the actual midterm.

Im so glade I took his class. I learned so much. He taught differnt ways at how to work a math problem. Totally made it easy. Pay attention, do the assigned homework. He gives out pre test homework, and midterms, and finals. Take that chance to work the problems out correctly, they will be on the test you take in class.FYI got an A.

Ok, he is really funny prof. Really nice, really helpful, he used to through a couple of jokes before starting the lecture in order to get everyone awake. Is he rude? yes he is actually, but he used to say sorry for you !!! before each test he gives a take home test and the midterm is exactly the same, i got a B without attending the second half.

This professor is great! He teaches you several ways to do a problem, gives out study guides that are exactly the same types of problems on tests/quizzes/mid terms, shows you how to do many problems. He really prepared all of us for the final. Don't talk when he's teaching or he will call you out on it. Be respectful and pay attention. A++

Very good teacher! I took his 8-week class. Has many tricks on how to solve a problem. There is homework, but not for a grade, it's more for practice. Quizzes make up 40% of your grade. He gives out study guide questions that are very similar to the tests. I am VERY bad at math and this professor was SO helpful! I strongly recommend him!

Oh man, what a pleasure this semester was, I mean who can not like this guys class, he is so smooth in the way he teaches, so calm and clear minded, he does not even follow with the text, it all just comes to him naturally as he explains you the concepts, truely an artist. this is how every class experience should be.

My nightmares of having bad math teachers ended right here He's a nice guy that's very clear with his explanations. When I took intermediate algebra in high school, my teachers were terrible at explaining it, made it easy. As long as you show effort and show up to class you can do well. He does give a lot of pop quizzes but you shouldn't sweat it.

If you are not good in math you should definitely take him, he helps you understand every little thing about math, he has his own ways. If you show effort he is willing to work with you. If you can get a spot in his class you better take it. So far he is the best teacher I've ever had.

I've always struggled with math, but this teacher is committed to making lessons memorable and making the material understandable for everyone, which makes quizzes and tests less stressful. Lots of extra credit. Practice tests and take home quizzes. Show up to class and participate and you'll do great!

just finished his summer session class for Math 8, easy, homework is prep for your quiz and test, he won't collect it. He is nice, funny he will give you the practice quiz before the real one and basic is the same problem. same as the test and midterm, he will replace your lowest quiz by your mid term and final. tests are take home. attend must.

Took him for stats over summer (3 hrs/day x 2 days/wk) & lectures were just way too long for the material covered. Easy class to begin w/ if you've ever taken a HS stats class. He gave study guides for each quiz/test & walked through each section clearly but *slowly*. Just do all the study guides day before test. Skipped class 6x, still got an A.

I took Professor Pearlstein in the summer, and the class was fantastic! he gives you a lot of opportunities to get a good grade with many quizzes, some are take home, and the tests are somewhat similar to what you see on the board. I guess what I liked the most is that he REALLY TEACHES, step by step and gives you options. I would take him again!

He has several ways of teaching you a problem. Doesn't try to trick you, in a test, he's pretty straight forward. He gives you worksheets that are similar to the test. He really cares about his students. Don't miss class his lectures are needed to understand the material. Math is not my strong suit but I love it now thanks to him.

Prof Barry Pearlstein was my tutor for an int alg class I was taking at IVC. I took math 253 and 353 with Professor Pearlstein, and he was so amazing I would stick with him as my only professor in math. I took 253 with Professor Pearlstein and learned more than I ever thought I would be capable of learning in Algebra. He is also a really nice guy who will go out of his way to help you. Barry is an excellent math teacher! He has managed to make math fun while removing the anxiety that many people associate with doing math. He doesn't require that you do the homework, but it is helpful in preparing for his quizzes and exams. If you study his practices exams and make sure to do all of the take home tests, you should get an easy A!

He can be too carefree and get off track but he's a great professor. He does grade your work, so double check everything. Funny, dorky, and quite entertaining.

This professor is amazing! I'm so bad at math, this was my third time taking this course and I finally passed with this professor. He really breaks everything down and I finally understood. The hwk is not mandatory but it really helps. If you're bad at math and have lost hope take this class!!!

I cannot stress enough how amazing this professor is. I've struggled with math my entire life and no matter what I do or how I switch my ways of learning, I never get a good grade in math. I took 253 with Zucker and passed with the lowest grade. I retook it with Pearlstein and I made the greatest choice. 10/10 recommend.

This spring I took him for Math 8, 1st time coming back to college after 5 yrs, graded below college level in my prereq test but qualified to take his class due to my prior transcripts. Easy A, attend class and do hw, which is not heavy at all. Makes lectures feel so easy. Took him for Brief cal this summer also.

Very sweet professor! He will answer any questions you have and goes out of his way to help his students! The tests/quizzes are similar to his reviews so make sure you review those and show up to class because he often times offers extra credit! Just show up to class, review a little bit, ask questions/get to know him, and you're solid!

By far the easiest class I've taken at IVC. He provides study guides that mirrors all the actual quizzes/tests/exams. Pearlstein is such a caring prof and clearly explains how to do every problem easily. My only complaint is that he doesn't post any grades on canvas. Sometimes he takes awhile to grade but he will give extra credit.

every week there is a test, and there are two midterms during the semester and one final. there is a study guide for the tests, the midterms, and the final. just show up for the class and you should pass with an easy A.

A very sweet professor. Very similar in material to high school level Alg 2. So similar that I passed with an A despite never doing the homework (he doesn't collect it). He likes to lead the class in meditation each day. The only things I didn't like was that he didn't update grades very often and that I wasted money on the textbook

Barry is my all time favorite professor. I am not great at math but i have an A in his class! He really cares about his students and helps them succeed. Lots of quizzes but they are easy and study guides are provided. Only 3 tests and one is a take home test. Only one homework assignment. I am taking him again for Math 11. TAKE HIS CLASS YOULL PASS

BARRYYY MADE MATH bearable. I honestly love math because of him. He does his best to make sure his student succeed! From sample quizzes you can study, to take home tests, to explaining something again, he does it all! The mindfulness tho, best part of this class. Super chill, but has his days (very rare tho). Need textbk for 2 HW's in the beginning

Prof pearlstein was the best math professor I have ever had. Hes so amazing and definitely wants all of his students to pass with a B or higher, which isnt very hard. He gives practice quizzes which basically mirror the actual quizzes with different numbers. Super awesome. Wish I couldve taken him for another class.

I took Professor Pearlsteins class over the summer and I had a great experience. He is a great professor and always make sure you know the material before he quizzes or tests you on it. The reviews helped with the quizzes and exams so make sure you do them. He is definitely a 10/10 professor, honestly one of the best Ive had while at college!

Yes, it is important to attend the lectures because you receive a lot of homework which becomes super easy because you have attended the lecture. The more questions you ask, the easier this class gets and the great part is, Professor likes questions and might even end up giving you participation extra credit. You also get quizzes in this class. A+

Professor Pearlstien is AMAZING!!! He made calculus so easy and understandable! He also does a moment of mindfulness before class and it is honestly the best way to destress from the day. His tests are just like the pratice quizzes show as long as you do those you should pass the class! :)

This professor is a gem for the struggling math student. He has a way of explaining concepts that helped me not only understand but master them. He makes himself available to go over problems after class. He may slow down the pace when needed. While this may annoy some faster learners, this quality is what makes him a phenomenal instructor to me.

Professor Pearlstein is the best! He made calculus super easy to understand, and his quizzes are partially at home/in person. His moments of mindfulness are the best! I couldn't recommend him enough!! There is a textbook but I never used it, his lectures are enough to fully comprehend the lesson.

Zero homework for one, and the class was okay, you can definitely get away with not showing up to class as long as you watch the lectures he posts if you know the material you def don't need to go to class, quizzes are easy, does take home quizzes and in-class quizzes, pretty much the same. good lectures, explains everything well.

I thought I was horrible at math until Professor Barry. Turns out I just hadn't had a good teacher yet, who could teach to more than one type of learning style. He's gifted at explaining the WHY of Algebra and not just expecting you to pattern match and pray it works. This course helped me pass Calc later. Not too much hw. Good lectures in class.

As long as you put in the bare minimum you should be able to walk out with an A., Everyone who said he's difficult should not be allowed to attend college, I'm concerned about how they will perform in life.

Professor Barry is an amazing math teacher who makes the subject accessible. The lectures are clear, and he provides helpful practice materials like sample quizzes. Attendance is important, but the workload is manageable. Combining the textbook with unstuck study is a great study strategy for this class.
