Awesome Prof. Easy to get a long with. Willing to help. I recomend him to anyone as #1 Prof to choose.
I never learned so much in any math class!! He is so helpful and he will make you laugh and make the class as fun as you want it to be. I actually liked to do work for this class!!
Great Guy, can't ask for anymore out of a math wiz.
He is the best math teach I have ever had. He invokes curiosity and you learn a lot of things that you are interested in.
Greatest Teacher in the Math department. Very clear on material and has realistic expectations of students
Great teacher! always there to answer questions. very clear with examples.
just didnt like it
He's an awesome person and professor. He's very helpful and applies math to the real world. Make sure you have strong math skills before taking this class though. If you don't, the class will be a challenge.
Dr. P is an awesome teacher. His tests are really hard, but I have honestly never learned so much in my life. He is always there for questions. Highly recommend taking him if you want a challenge, or just think you need someone who will help you lots.
He's a very nice guy. Very helpful when you need it. Looks a lot like kermit the frog. wears the same outfits everyday
Great professor. Always willing to help, his lectures are interesting and clear. He has a very realistic expectation of his students and has a good grading system.
Great Prof. If you do the homework and have a good brain you can get an A. Weekly quizes are an easy way to keep up and realy help your final grade. Take this class if you like a fun class but want to know the material.
Okay, this is the only prof/teacher who made me understand math w/out much effort. He's a great professor. Funny in a dorky kinda way. One complaint - he's a bible-banger homophobe - but a good professor. Cares about your progress.
Great teaching, makes class interesting and subject come alive
Barry is a huge nerd, but that makes the class more interesting. He is always willing to help and is open to suggestions from students as far as the class format. Tests are difficult.... Make sure to take the companion with this class.
Dr. Peratt is totally hilarious. He's the hugest dork on the PLANET. I heart him very much.
I didnt understand math until I had him as a prof. He will explain it until you understand it. He is very very helpful and one of the best professors you could ever have.
Best professor ever! Gives you tons of help if you need it. Besides being a great professor, he's also a fantastic friend.
Almost everyone I know who has had Dr. P has said he's one of the most amazing PEOPLE they've ever known. I graduated and still maintain contact with him from time to time. He is a truly incredible man.
Dr. P is a great prof! Some of his assignments can be challenging, but very rewarding. You walk away from his classes confident in your abilites. He is very approachable and works very hard to make sure everyone in the class can succeed.
Tough class but he explained everything so well that I actually had a good grasp of the class by the end. He's real timely on returning emails and makes sure everyone knows whats going on.
if you want to **** over your GPA take this guy.....he's a real piece of work....****s you over on tests and his quizzes are the gayest thing i have ever seen...no curve at all. he's so pathetic that a kid in our class has started to teach us(Dr. Scott) i have learned more from scott in one day than from barry the whole semester
good, clear
wow...doesnt teach anything...doesnt show examples...has u do dumb little projects...worthless class DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you want to read the book to learn...he likes to combine multiple problems from hw into big problems on tests but doesnt go over examples of how to do them...good guy...BAD PROF
Worst teacher I have ever had. Never gave one example during class. Of the class of 30 some, 23 people have to retake it because the didn't pass becuase of the lack of teaching ability. Avoid at all costs. HORRIBLE TEACHER, TAKE SOMEONE WHO CAN ACTUALLY TEACH OTHERWISE I WOULD COUNT ON TAKING THE CLASS AGAIN. OR SHOT YOURSELF NOW!!!!!!
it's rare to see a prof who's actually excited about his subject and his students learning. a good guy and a good professor
Amazing guy and an awesome professor!! He explains everything..but not always to your full understanding..he makes you work and think! always there to help you when you need it and cares about his students! great guy dr p!
He really teaches this class well. He explains things in a way that is understandable for people who don't even like math. He is very high energy and obviously likes what he does. He starts the class out with kind of a Christian agenda, which is weird, but otherwise he's great.
Excellent teacher, at least if you like math and you're proficient at it. If you have questions, take the companion; that's what it's for. Class does what it needs to. He is very organized and intelligent. Reccomended to people who like math or are willing to work.
Dr. Peratt is a good guy and he is quite helpful. Math is not my forte and I managed a B. We do a lot of group projects and so if you don't understand something the other people in the class can help you. The projects can be really hard and he doesn't teach you enough about the topic that you can do the projects on your own. Which is frustrating
He is nice. He is kinda helpful. The class is hard. If you don't know what chaos don't take it.
He's left handed so sit on the left side of the room so you can see what's being put on the board. He moves quickly but will explain if you have a question. Very helpful outside of the classroom.
Very good teacher. He grades fairly and he's always more than happy to answer questions. Really nice guy.
Calculus II is one of the toughest classes. Dr P made it interesting, understandable and sometimes fun. The projects he assigns are very challenging and really drive home the concepts you need. Very helpful if you go to his office hours or even if you contact him by e-mail.
I love this guy. Even though I am not doin that well he makes math very interesting. Im a guy that hates math, and Dr. Peratt actually made me enjoy solving the problems. If your not the best at math but need a little boost to get caught up, This guys the man for the job.
the first fun math class in my life. Highly recommended prof.
I took his class as a freshman and he really prepared me for upper level Stat classes. He is a fun teacher and I highly recommend him.
While I agree with other users that he is a great teacher and a nice guy, do not take him unless you have a strong math understanding. Math majors in the math dept can't help me with my homework. I've been asked why I'm doing Chaos Theory in pre-calc. I was a strong math student going into this class, but he is very, very difficult. You're warned.
Hard class but he clearly defines what he will test and quiz. His lectures are very organized and easy to follow. The material is not easy but he takes you through step by step. I recommend him to anyone for calculus.
Very good math prof. I would definitely recommend him to everyone. Math isn't my best subject but he made me able to understand and enjoy it. 3 tests, a quiz about every other week, homework, but it's not graded for points. Just practice. Just FYI, he is a huge nerd and he is very proud of it. It's usually kinda funny.
Peratt is the best math teacher I've ever had! He's extremely helpful if you ask, and his grading system is amazing. I strongly suggest him!!!
I took calculus in the summer and got an A.I wouldn't have been able to if he hadn't been teacing. He's been teaching for 20 years and knows EXACTLY what students do and don't get.quizes are challenging but they are the test.final is the same as the old tests,if you do better on the final than you did on the original test, final grade replaces test:D
Dr. P is the most awesome guy ever! I'm super happy that I got into his class. He knows what he is talking about. He's a big nerd, and that makes his class the best! <- he even calls himself a nerd! Assigns HW that he knows will help you! Tests are challenging, but you can make it up on the final. He's awesome! Take class with HIM!!!
A brilliant man and it shows. He's got a really good grasp of the subject so he can give you many different ways of looking at something until you get it. He's a nice, funny nerd (and proud of it). His grading system gives students a second chance if you mess up sometimes. Take this class!
He's the best math teacher I've had. Uses examples and is very clear at explaining the material and any questions you may have.
Easily the best professor I've had thus far. Really difficult projects so make sure you put your time into them. I got a C in the class because of that, but don't let it steer you away from taking any classes you can with him because he's the man.
Dont was you time taking Calc from any other Prof! I promise you wont fall asleep in his class! Do your hw, ask him for help. PS Get in a group and do your projects together, he expects you to do it! Tests are easier then the projects, as long as you know what you are doing youll get an A. NO FINAL!!!! Get to retake previous tests if necessary.
Great lectures, impossible tests. Frequent quizzes (nearly weekly) No extra credit. Only take this guy if you are already a math whiz.
Dr. P is a great math professor. He is very clear on what he wants you to know. Do the homework and you will be in good shape. He has a lot of energy towards the subject. Take him for calc.
This is guy is so much fun. He knows how to teach. His grading is totally fair, so many chances to make up bad grades. Class is mandatory since that is where you learn everything. Super nice, helpful, and very smart.
He is a VERY hard calc teacher. I worked my butt off and got a C. He also makes you get a really expensive calculator and has bad office hours. tests and quizzes are extremely challenging.
Second semester I had him, and amazing again. He's really a teacher at heart. He makes math worth learning, and gives derivations and applications to the material. The highlight of the class, is the project problems. Its hard and frustrating, but you need to get with people and work together. The projects are oddly fun, because its the real world.
Dr. P will sit down and help you through any problem you need help with. Very helpful. This class is hard, but you will walk out knowing more than you would have with any other teacher. Don't take his class if you are not going to try.
Great guy. Hard class, but he is always willing to help. Quiz problems come straight from the homework. and test problems come straight from the quizzes.
Don't get sucked into the "DEs is easier than Calc 2". The concepts of DE's are way harder IMO. The project will kill you if you don't work with people and consistently ask questions. Do the homework and ask questions in class, cause you will get more out of Dr. P. He is extremely helpful and nice, but he has a expectations. Practice using the TI89
The Linear Algebra portion wasn't too bad. It's kind of annoying if you've never seen it before. The material didn't show in in DE's until the very end with Systems. It sorta seemed like an entirely different class which is kinda how its supposed to be. There was one test, and then a retake of it.
As a biology major, I was dreading this class, but Dr. Peratt is an awesome professor! He is extremely helpful and enthusiastic. This class is difficult and a lot is expected of you, but you'll learn TONS.
you would be lucky to take a class with him. he is the best math professor at winona. always willing to help and makes the exams fair. the quizzes can be tough, but all the questions come from the book problems and are pretty similar. take him whatever class he teaches. put off a class until he teaches it and you wont be sorry.
Very intriguing class. This class is project oriented and involved ALOT of time to think and develop ideas and solutions. Even though Calc 1 is the only pre-req, theres skills/ideas you can bring from higher math classes to help you understand what you're really doing. I think any major can benefit from it. Dr. P is the always the best.
BEST MATH TEACHER OUT THERE. He knows the material and conveys it with great enthusiasm. Exams are tough but do some homework and you'll be fine.
By far, my favorite professor at WSU! He only takes grades for your quizzes, project, and exams. If you study for the quizzes/exams and listen to his 'hints' in class on what will be on the quiz/test you will do fine. The project sucks, but he's very helpful in class about it. Take this professor if you are taking a math class!
My FAVORITE professor by far. He's hilarious, nice, and helpful. Dr. P is great at showing examples, homework isn't turned in but it's helpful and he answers any questions you have and can walk you through problems.
Perratt is one of the most dedicated teacher I know. He is very funny in his own dorky way. He is really a great guy and I learned a lot from him (about math and how I should act). I look up to him more than any other professor I have ever had.
Definitely the best professor I've ever had. Very dedicated to helping his students. He's pretty fun and quirky, and he keeps the class interesting for the most part. Tough class, but he's a great teacher, so it evens out.
Dr. P is the best math teacher I have ever had. As he taught us new material, he did a great job reviewing material from calc 1 and 2, so his students would not get lost. He is funny and interesting, and if you do the homework, the quizzes and tests will be fine.
Dr. P is one of the best professors I have had in my college career so far. I was dreading Calculus, as I am not a math person, but he made it as interesting as possible and very clear. He tells jokes in class and does his best to keep students engaged. I definitely recommend.
Berry is the best prof i've had at Winona, he assigns group projects but they are so interesting and he really makes u think, homework isn't mandatory, the final isn't mandatory either, would definitely take this prof again.
A few exams some quizzes and a project make up your grade. Hes a great guy and cares about math. He is will to help you.
Dr. P is in my opinion the best professor at Winona State. He is kind, caring, and very passionate about material. He makes you excited to learn the material even if you don't personally care about it.
Dr. P is great he actually made me like math again He answers any question you have and is very willing to help you There are quizzes almost every Friday but they aren't that bad There's homework, but it's not graded At the end of the semester you work on 2 "projects" that seem really hard at first but you learn a lot form them I would take again
I took Dr. Peratt for Pre Calculus with Modeling. He was amazing! Homework isn't graded (but needed to learn), attendance isn't taken (only for projects-you have two but you can work in groups and he gives you weeks to do it IN CLASS!!) The final is just if you want to retake a chapter test to boost your grade up.
I have had class with Professor Peratt twice and he is so much fun! He gives a quiz almost every Friday, and only has 2 tests throughout the semester. For his final, he lets your retake one of the two tests, so in other words, it is optional. At the end of the semester, you get two projects that you can work on with others in the class. Take him!!!
Pre Calc with Modeling and he was amazing. My favorite so far, he is so friendly! There are group projects that take up class time but are easy A's, he answers questions to help you get 100%. The final is the option to retake any test.T here are "pop quizzes" you write your name down on a paper to get extra credit when a lot of people are gone.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. PLEASE ALWAYS TAKE HIM! I couldn't imagine going to Winona without him. I wish he taught every SINGLE one of my classes. AMEN! 3
Overall, a great professor. i would recommend taking Dr. Peratt for any math classes that you may need at winona state. Best i've had yet at wsu
Barry is a very easy professor to get along with. He is very personable and likes to make the class laugh. There are some group projects but they are not too bad.
Barry was the best teacher I've had in a long time. He is nice and will help you if you need it. His lectures make sense. He involves the students so they actually learn. I would reconmend this teacher to anyone.
I hate math and Dr. Peratt made it actually enjoyable. Truly a fantastic professor.
Dr. P is an amazing professor, but the class is challenging. Doesn't use D2L, he has his own website. Everything you learn is during lecture if you skip you won't pass. Only grades exams, quizzes and project. The project boosts your grade, and you can retake all the exams at the end of the semester. Take all the notes from the lectures too.
Dr. P is the best prof at WSU. He explains calculus in an easy and understandable way for students. HW is not graded but you should atleast keep caught up so you can do well on the weekly quizes, the project boosts your grade. He is also pretty funny and made an 8am class not boring at all. Would 100% recommend to anyone
Dr. P is a great professor. He teaches really well but show up because attendance does matter. He will be willing to help up your grade in the end if you were there the whole semester. Overall great professor.
Great professor who genuinely cares about teaching and about your grade. Super funny and explains thing very well. Definitely recommend!
He is a very nice guy he wants his students to learn. He lectures and then sends home practice problems that have the answers so you can check your work. You have three tests and 2 group projects. The final is you can retake any test you did bad on. You will also have a few quizzes. Overall great teacher and hard working!
Not only does he give you the opportunity to retake tests at the end of the semester instead of taking a final, he also gives you a project that is sure to boost your grade. Show up and take notes, you will get an A. He is awesome if you go ask him questions. TAKE HIM BEFORE YOU LEAVE WINONA.
Dr. P is one of my favorite professors here at Winona. Grades very fairly and wants his students to pass. Makes class super fun and made Calc 2 very easy to understand. I recommend taking this professor if you can.
Barry is great. He wants you to do well. Go to lecture, he notices. Show up to class, do the homework, do the reviews and you can get a A for sure.
Dr. P is an amazing professor. He truly wants ever one of his students to succeed. He clearly explains the topics, and doesn't try to "trick you" on the exams. Do the homework, ASK QUESTIONS, and show up and you'll get a good grade.
Dr. Peratt has been my favorite professor so far. He teaches everything in a way that makes it easy to understand. If you show up, pay attention, and take notes, it'll be an easy A. He also makes class very fun and enjoyable to attend.
This was my 4th class with Dr. P and he is seriously the best and one of my favorites. This class was tough and a lot of work but Dr. P makes it worth it. He truly cares about you and your learning and he will help you get to where you want to be
I don't have enough characters to say all the good things I have to say about Dr. P. He is hands down the best prof at WSU and I would recommend him to anybody. Dr. P is the only one who can make a class like Calc fun and teaches it so it makes sense. He genuinely wants all students to succeed and does everything in his power to make this happen!!!
I came in not knowing a lot about math, so I had to work hard for my grade. He has clear lectures and always answers questions. Easy to reach outside of class and he gives partial credit on tests. He is nice, but I have one complaint. His syllabus contains a weird part in the diversity section that isn't needed, esp considering its a math class
Dr. P is my absolute favorite professor I've ever had. Homework is not graded (but definitely do it), he is caring and understanding and wants everyone to succeed. He grades generously and makes calc 2 seem easy. Not to mention he is hilarious and keeps class fun. 10/10 recommend he is the best.
Dr. P has clear lectures. I usually struggle with math, but I did well in this class because he made it so easy to understand. He seems to care about students, answers questions, and also provides the textbook, so you dont have to buy it. My one complaint is that his syllabus is pretty controversial, so I wouldnt take him again unless I had to.
loved dr. p
Dr. Peratt was the first professor I had at WSU and he really set the bar high. His lectures are straight forward, interesting, and allow you to actually understand the topics. He gives homework to practice the topics and quizzes and tests are challenging but he typically grades based on whether or not you understand the problem. Great Professor.
If you are going to take any math class do it with Dr. P! Best prof on campus.
Dr. P is a lad. No textbook needed everything is all posted on his website you'll be given access too. Homework is not graded but very beneficial to do. He's a nerd and likes what he does which makes the classroom that much better.
Dr. P is a great prof. Although his politics aren't great, he doesn't talk ab it in class thank god. He's an amazing teacher and made differential equations and calc 2 understandable. HW isn't graded but it helps to do it and he sometimes pulls questions for the quizzes. Dr. P made me enjoy math again, and he is very understanding.
Peratt is a very simple teacher. His tests aren't meant to be hard but you can easily lose points. Homework was the hardest but isn't graded, quizzes are weekly and probably the easiest with the tests being medium. There is a group project at the end for the final and can be hard, so get to know the people around you during the semester.
Dr. Peratt wasn't a bad guy or anything like that but the way he handled the last few classes I didn't really like he cancelled a project that was 30% of the grade in the class and did so after the drop/ withdraw timeline.
Best professor at WSU I've had so far, without a doubt. Truly one of the most caring, easy-going, patient, + understanding people I have ever met in my life. Advanced math has always been a big struggle for me and while passing Calc was not easy, he made me feel so encouraged that I could handle it and he's just so enthusiastic about the class
Amazing person.
Once you find his personal webpage you may think a bit different of him, but he never brings any of that into class. His lectures are amazing and easy to understand. He helps with any questions and never makes you feel dumb. He also records all the lectures so you can rewatch. He does not use D2L but its not that big of an issue.
Taking Math 120 with Dr. P was a highlight of my time at WSU. He always communicates expectations and what's going on, and provides comprehensive study guides for tests. Lectures were also extremely enjoyable and fun to go to. There was no final test, just a group project that he helps on, and you could retake any test during the final exam day.
I struggled at first, but reached out to him and he was very kind and willing to help. Can miss class if you tell him you wont be there and watch the video. Will give partial credit for showing correct work even if final answer is wrong. All tests can be retaken. HW not graded. Great guy and made math way less daunting than it was before.
There is a reason Dr. P has a 5/5 rating, he's amazing! I would take more math classes then I have to just to have him as a teacher again. He is very generous with grading and was very patient, answering any questions anyone had before moving on. He occasionally got off-track on a tangent but they were always funny and somewhat educational too.
I've had Dr. P. for 4 upper level math courses: 212, 308, 312, 313. He is the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are interesting, straight-forward, and concise. I've never had to buy a textbook. He provides you with all the materials you need for FREEE. Stay on top of lectures, do the homework, ask questions, and you'll do great.
Great professor, knows the material. Makes an effort to actually teach. Project at the end was kind of fun.
Attendance is mandatory, however, you can watch the recordings to get your attendance grade. Two exams and the final exam wasn't required. The lectures and homework directly correlate to the tests and quizzes. Group project at the end but he helps you the whole time and checks it before grading. Homework isn't graded but do it and you'll pass.
Dr. Peratt was great! The reason I got a C was because I didn't put a lot of effort into studying so I did poorly on the exams. The project at the very end was a huge grade booster. Take him if you can!
he's a little odd politically and will bring it up heavily on his website and syllabus but never mention it in class, outside of that he's easily one of the best teachers i've had. he cares about how you're doing mentally and in classes and will always lend a helping hand on the projects which are most your grade - it's hard to fail that aspect.
Great professor - makes math engaging and accessible. Lectures are clear, and he's always happy to answer questions. Occasionally gets sidetracked, but it's usually entertaining. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for test prep.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Everything is clear from the start. DO THE HOMEWORK. If you don't, you won't do good on the tests. DO THE HOMEWORK. ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS. He records his lectures, so you can go back and watch them. He is also a nice grader - he'll give points of you try. Seriously, do the homework.
You can tell that Dr. P really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He loves seeing his students learn and understand new material.
By far and above one of the best professors I have ever had the privilege learning from. He knows exactly what he is talking about, can explain anything in a clear and concise manner, is clearly very passionate about everything that he teaches and manages to be fun and enjoyable all at the same time.
Dr. P is the world's best professor. I have had him for many upper-level classes, and he has helped me significantly in every single one of them. If you need help, ask him. His personality is fantastic, and he wants to see every single student, regardless of who they are, succeed.
Pay no mind to his website if you're weary. I had my doubts but he is the best Calc prof I have ever had. Masterful lecturer, video recordings of lecture and free downloadable textbook and class notes. HW assigned but not turned in. Weekly quizzes. My second time taking Calculus II and he made it doable. Also very involved with student endeavors.
