Easily one of the best professors I have ever had at Baruch. It is evident that Professor Soloff is passionate about Marketing and is an excellent teacher who makes the class enjoyable and highly informative.
Good Professor. He has experience of the real world marketing and also quiet interesting in class as well. Take him if you get the opportunity to.
His requirements are really hard to grasp and his grading very subjective. The work that he asks for can also be quite redundant. Attendance may be a significant part of your grade, because a person who always went to class but scored lower on most homeworks received a higher grade than I did.
One of the worst ?professors? I?ve ever had. He doesn?t even make his own lectures. He basically takes powerpoints provided by the textbook publisher and reads off them during his lectures. He doesn?t prepare at all for the class since he just reads off slides. His documents/emails contain spelling/grammatical errors. It?s obvious he doesn?t care.
His grading is COMPLETELY subjective. He brings in guest speakers, but they are so much better than his lectures. It is unfortunate, I was hoping to learn something from this course. But I have learned nothing. I find it hard to believe that he is an expert in his field. Answers to student questions are often confusing and/or contradict each other.
Professor starts simple before expanding into a range of marketing concepts. Some are useful for the group project, others will just be extra info. Guest speakers come sharing real world experiences; challenging group project and frequent case studies keep you learning. No exams. You will only learn if you want to. It's how a grad class should be.
I have nothing against the professor, he is a nice person. However, I do have a problem with his teaching style. He is at times incomprehensible, and gets easily flustered / confused. His assignments and instructions often have spelling and grammatical errors. Basically, his style was confusing and nothing really useful came out of this class.
Hi, Professor Soloff is very knowledgeable in Marketing, however it is hard for him to convey it. He does work with you grade wise if you have an issue and bring it to him although it can be subjective.
Buyer beware! Not much value from his class. His assignments are too subjective and the work is mainly "busy work." I learned the most when he wasn't teaching the class (i.e. guest speakers, class presentations). I often felt confused by him. He changes the syllabus and due dates too often. You are graded on your review of his class- I'm serious.
I never liked marketing prior taking Soloff's class but at the end of the semester it was my favorite class of the semester. There are no mid-terms and you don't have to worry about wasting time reading the book..The group project was very interesting I learned so much about marketing from branding to creating a marketing campaign.Take his class
This was my first marketing course and experience with marketing plans/communication campaigns. My background is technical so I?m used to ?textbook-homework problems-exam? classes. Professor Soloff had us learn by doing rather than exams, which provided firsthand exposure to the marketing process, mainly through the extensive group project. Case
His teaching method is really suitable for a MKTG class, he use everything that is out there (case study, MKTG showdown, guest speakers, presentations?), no exam or book but a huge MKTG project , totally time consuming and greatly useful, grading is fare and you can use what you have learned in the class at work which is whatMBA is all about.
Almost everyone I spoke to in class felt that he is incompetent. One student even said this aloud at the end of the semester when we were filling out the course evaluation form. During the course evaluation, Soloff brought in Crumbs cupcakes to sway students opinion of him and encourage students to give him good reviews.
On the plus side, he is experienced, knowledgeable and passionate about marketing. On the negative side, he is so disorganized and all-over-the-place. Although I learned a fair amount, much of the class was a frustrating experience with some truly chaotic class sessions. If you're okay with that, you'll be fine. If this style bugs you stay away.
Prof. Soloff has a lot of real world experience that he brings to classroom. His teaching style is very interactive (participation is key!)& he focuses on teaching you things that are not only required, but useful beyond the classroom! Finally a teacher that cares. This is my second time taking one of his classes & I would definitely take him again
Prof Soloff brings a ton of real-world marketing experience to his teaching (great insights from working with high profile companies and well-known ad campaigns.) Rather than a textbook and test style, we spent the course working on a group project in order to learn by doing. If you like an interesting, non-traditional course structure, take this!
My favorite professor thus far at Baruch. No tests, Challenging assignments and presentations. I never missed a class because every single class was interesting and interactive. Actually cares about his class and his students unlike most professors here. If you want to learn real world marketing skills take professor Soloff. A+ all around
Professor Soloff teaches both this class and Marketing Communications and he is a great teacher for both! He clearly has a ton of experience and insight into the industry and brings that to the class. The projects help students get a good command of the subject matter. I would highly recommend taking him for either class.
Excellent class taught by a prof that truly cares about the subject. He has real world experience-a big plus; & is willing to amend the curriculum so all the students benefit. If u take this class u will be intellectually stimulated and leave w/a new perspective on marketing & communicating. I took this class on a whim and am glad I did! A+++
Professor Soloff is my favorite teacher at Baruch. He teaches both this class and Global Marketing Communications. He is experienced and knowledgeable. He also focuses on teaching students real-life marketing skills that are useful beyond the classroom. Classes are interesting and interactive. Highly recommend taking his classes!
Professor Soloff is a helpful, caring Professor. The class is interesting and the assignments relevant. Definitely recommend!!
Great professor! Passionate about marketing, has lots of real-world/global marketing experience, helpful and a very fair grader. Really open to course feedback and takes suggestions seriously. No exams, no textbook- just useful case studies. Class is a good mix of group and individual work- Definitely recommend it!
Great Professor, I took 2 of his classes. Former marketing professional for several huge comapanies & brings real world experience to the classroom. Great class project and interesting cases. You have to purchase a course pack which is better & more interesting than an expensive text book. No midterm or final is another bonus ;)
Professor Soloff's Consumer Behavior class (summer session) and Global Marketing Communications are both great classes! This professor has real professional experience from the "real world"! His case studies are all very relevant and interesting. His classes are a lot of work but it is really worth it. I wish he could teach more classes!!
He really knows his material and gives you real-life exposure to mktg. He has great experience & background in the field, so use his knowledge to ur advantage. The hmwk assignments are easy, case studies are interesting make u think, & group prjct will teach u a lot. Put in a genuine effort and ask questions - he'll help you. Overall, great class.
This class was very interesting, and Professor Soloff added a lot of real world knowledge which made the class very educational, as well. Homework assignments aren't too bad, and case studies are actually thought-provoking!
I highly recommend taking MKT 9703 (or any marketing class for that matter) with Soloff. He has tons of real world experience and is extremely enthusiastic about the subject!
Consumer Behvr He???s worked for global firms ie Gillete doing marketing campaigns and strategies so has tons of real world experience. Keeps the class interesting w/ subject material that???s fun, not boring. Always willing to answer your questions and help you out. Assignments: No textbooks but a digital course pack so you don???t break the bank.
The content of the course allows me to understand how advertising and marketing communication campaign strategies ie. public relations, sponsorship, events, market research, segmentation and consumer insight all tie in to the global economy. -4 minor case studies/ 2 major case studies. -Minor assignments -Group project Would def recommend
Prof. Soloff's Consumer Behavior class is a MUST for ANY MAJOR. You want to take this class for yourself and to understand how successful marketing can contribute to ROI. Class material is immediately applicable to REAL life, practical/useful & interesting. Prof. Soloff is a WORLD-CLASS marketer with 20+ years of experience from P&G - a true gem!
Very knowledgeable and experienced Professor, and he makes this evident with his lectures and selection of assignments. Assignments and group project give students exposure to almost every area of the field. Highly Recommended.
Great professor. Gives real world examples, respects students ideas. Gives a lot of marketing tools for students, def. take this class
Very good professor, good communicator and knowledgeable. I liked the fact that he gives the student the project to develop and in this way understand the concept by doing it instead of just memorizing. He is a great person and his class is fun and interesting! recommended.
Graduate: Consumer Behavior = The subject is very interesting and materials required are useful. The syllabus is also quite well organized and offers hands-on learning experience. Unfortunately, not the right professor for the course. He is very dispersed, disorganized, makes mistakes and highly subjective.
the biggest mistake was taking his class. Very unorganized, so due dates for hw aren't stated at times. test questions aren't even from the textbook. 2 tests, two presentations and too much work to just get a B. Who knew there was someone to make fundamental marketing so hard.
He might be a well credited marketer in the advertising world, but as a professor he is simply the worst. I respect that side of him. Recently got a review for Midterm 2 and an answer key. The answers on the answer key are wrong! Also doesn't reply to e-mails on time. Surely he has other priorities than teaching a class. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Heard great things about the professor, but it all went downhill when he gave out tests.
Great Professor. Exams were not too easy, however, if you study class notes yo can get an A. High curves.
I wanted to post this before registration for next semester. Do NOT take his class! He is so disorganized and the grading is totally inconsistent. He likes to play the cool professor but is really nit-picky. Also, tons of busy work assignments!
Great professor to take.
Do your work and you won't be disappointed
It is okay if you messed up that 2 exams because he curves a lot a lot (like 15points) and they are a small portion of you overall grade. Work hard on your 2 presentations and do all the homework! but one thing is that this professor is EXTREMELY DISORGANIZED! he might be a professional in marketing field but he is definitely a good prof!
Definitely one of my least favorite professors. Disorganized, doesn't know what is going on in his class. He keeps class relaxed and doesn't care much but I still wouldn't take him again. I learned nothing
If you dont like exams this class is for you since they're very small portion of your grade.
Plus: He keep class business relevant and has a great use of guest speakers! The work is interesting and helpful. Not big on tests. Flaw: Organization needs improvement. His excellent on the spot speaking skills sometimes lead to bad information or comments.
This guy is as DISORGANIZED as a human being can get. Although, he curves a lot and workload is manageable. Attandance is mandatory. Dont waste your $ on textbook, its useless and you can download it for free in pdf if you really want to read it.
Very knowledgeable about the industry. Always open to providing feedback on assignments and presentations.
Would highly advise against taking a class with him. Lectures are near impossible to follow and all over the place. Extremely disorganized. Spelling and frequent grammatical errors. Busy work assignments. Unfair tests with irrelevant questions. Very slow to respond to e-mails, if he does. Will give a bad grade with complete lack of feedback.
Prof. Soloff belongs in marketing. He doesn't belong in a classroom. Completely unorganized and inconsistent. Has good intentions but his thoughts seem to jump around alot. Best classes were the guest speakers he brought in.
Where do I begin? He likes to talk and blab and has a very disorganized chain of thought. Blackboard is a mess. He gave out the wrong syllabus for the first 3 weeks of class. Changes what is and what is not on the test by sending out an email the night before. Good guy, NOT a good professor.
Do what u suppose to and u good.
One exam(midterm). Huge consumer behavior project about Target company. Prof was disorganized. Did not communicate well to us regarding the project. Goals are misconstrued. He is very intelligent though he doesn't teach much info that is new or exciting to learn. Changes his mind about grading randomly. Few individual assignments were given as well
Chilled guy, has a fun advertising and marketing background. Always there to help when needed. 2 tests, big project. Do well on the project and you'll get an A. Great guy.
The professor is knowledgeable about marketing, since he had a previous background in it, working on a few projects with duracell (which he shows in class). Pretty fun class, with many videos and a project. the project actually turns out to be fun and it's almost worth half your grade, so getting an A should not be a problem.
Honestly one of THE BEST classes I have taken at Baruch! This class opened my eyes to the vast world of marketing- you get to look at real life case studies, hwk assignments are very clear and Professor Soloff has SO much insight to share. You will not regret this decision! You will learn and take away SO much! Sign up for this class NOW!
He is very knowledgeable and fun.I recommend his as I have taken him twice.
I took global mkt communications grad level class w/ Prof Soloff. This is a case based class focused on applied marketing and strategy, strong international focus - lots of class discussion. Optional conceptual readings, cases are ok in length. One of the best professors I have taken at Baruch. Group project component, no exam. Highly recommend.
Hard to learn from an prof who constantly changes the syllabus, weights, due dates etc. Takes attendance but classes are just buzzwords and AAPL worship. Group project accounts for most of your grade. We had two quizzes that got huge curves because they covered material he never taught. If you have an interest in marketing, take a different prof.
A very nice man who has great insight, but the comments about disorganization are correct. Sometimes he's tough to follow. You can't be afraid to nail him down in class and make him explain EXACTLY what he means or wants for the exams. 2 Exams, difficult because they were disorganized, 1 group project which was actually kind of fun.
Great Professor, If you are a mkt major, its obvious that you will be expected to be creative. Prof Soloff brings the fun side of teaching consumer behavior. Yes, there is an exam that you need to study for, but its only 20% of your class grade, everything else is a piece of cake. Just make sure you buy the textbook. YOU WILL NEED IT!
Started off a little skeptical, but he is a very reasonable and fair professor. Class was actually great. Prepare to work in group projects, a mentally tough challenge. Only challenge of the class in my opinion.
Took him for consumer behavior, it was an awesome class, and now I wish I was a marketing major. Homework assignments are easy, and projects are time consuming, make sure you take him with the understanding to do your research.
Grades you based on how much he likes you. Disorganized, hippocritical and generally does not make any sense. Expects you to pay attention and come to class when it is incredibly boring and you learn nothing
The class is pretty easy and you can get away with doing the bare minimum, but he's so scatterbrained and disorganized that it's hard to keep up. Class is almost unbearable because he's so unstructured. All in all, you don't learn anything from him. Nothing.
Finally a professor with real experience! Very helpful, makes class fun, group project and case studies. No exams! You have to work hard and he notices when you do. I have taken him twice and he really cares about students understanding the material. He lets you share drafts of presentations in advance for feedback which is so helpful!
Case studies were helpful in evaluating real situations with relevant analysis. Bullet points were used to convey material with precision, which is exactly what business requires. Key elements that are necessary in advertising were also employed.
His notes are confusing and he often confuses the class with what he says. He is not clear in his lecture, so you have to read the textbook. He says one thing about the project requirement one day and says another the other day. He is hard to keep up with. He does have experience, but he can't teach.
Great professor and great learning experience. He knows a lot about the field. I would recommend him to a friend.
This professor doesn't care about what you think or get from this class. He basically gives grade based on how much he likes you. The group project is like hell if you stuck with the wrong people. BTW, he assigns groups as well so it is all about luck. There are two presentation and a lot of homework. Don't take him if you have other option.
He knows all about real world experiences although he does tend to make a lot of generalizations that may come off as ignorant sometimes. Good feedback and a 2 part group project for the semester. Overall interesting and fun class
He is one of the prepared professors in Baruch. He gives many assignments but if you allocate time properly, it won't be hard. He usually shows his own PPT. There are two group presentations, and those require good team work. One more important thing is that you have to participate into the class! Take his class. He will satisfy your WANTs.
I don't think he constructed the class well. It's not easy to contact him, never reply students email. Doesn't helpful at all. Only one mid term in the whole semester and 2 big projects.
What makes Prof. Soloff different from any other MKT prof is that he comes with actual experience in the field. He showed us many videos on stuff he's worked on to explain concepts in class. The lectures were never boring and the work isn't too demanding. Fun class and fun professor.
He is a good teacher. Follow his rules and assignments and you will be good.
I had professor Soloff last semester for MKT Foundations and having taken a class prior to this one at a different school, I was really hoping to get a perspective of someone who had worked in the field. We can all read and memorize terms, but a good lecture is hard to find. Professor Soloff is very helpful and engaging. You will learn a lot!
Great Lectures! Has a lot of experience in the field, so you shall not be bored! Group project is a big chunk of your great, so make sure you put effort into it. I hate group projects, but this was a lot of fun. Learned a lot in his class. Just make sure you hand everything in and participate in class! One midterm, no finals.
Professor Soloff is amazing! His lectures are super interesting, and he doesn't have that boring old-fashion lectured style of teaching! He's big on group presentations. One of the very few professors at Baruch that is highly knowledgable that has a lot of marketing experience. I've taken him for 3 different classes and wish I could take him again!
It was a great chance to learn advertising loutine.
It was a great chance to learn deep level of marketing strategy!!
Prof Soloff is very nice and professional in Marketing Strategy area , I like his personality as well.
Easy A but he is very scattered and confusing. All over the place.
PROF. SOLOFF IS AMAZING! He teaches this class in a very easy and interesting way. His cases are very educational. If you would like to summarize all your knowledge about marketing + learn something new, I will recommend this class. But, if you not sure how well you know MKT, his exam will be difficult to you. Don't take it & CHANGE YOUR MAJOR!
Group presentation-heavy course. Only one midterm. He teaches you how to see things like you would as an advertising agency. He even helps you format your resume to the marketing field and goes over the different fields of marketing. Very insightful course! Everything he teaches is hands on so be prepared to actually think things through.
If you don't want a boring marketing professor and actually want to be creative in projects, take him. Very helpful and makes class interesting and diverse.
Professor Soloff's creativeness is contagious. I was never really into marketing but really enjoyed his class. You get to develop an advertising campaign over the course of the semester. However, if you don't like group projects stay away from him. Lectures are interesting as he does lots of case studies and shows ads all the time. Plus he's funny!
Best marketing class in Baruch! Prof. Soloff is one of the few marketing professors at Baruch with job experience. He's well educated and has worked in the best companies in the field. His classes are practical and relevant, unlike the usual textbook jargon taught in other classes. He gives better career advice than career services. TAKE THIS CLASS
Prof. Soloff is the best marketing professor at Baruch. He is one of the few professors with relevant job experience so he teaches the mandatory textbook jargon with practical stuff. He gives better career advice in marketing than career services, which primarily focuses on ACC and FIN students. Also, take his ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT class (MKT 4493)!!!
This class is so much fun. It teaches us how the advertising and marketing world works. Only 1 exam and you're divided into groups. Be creative and don't miss deadlines!!!!!! We watched a lot of commercials.
Quite a wonderful teacher. He really knows his stuff. Does not like you to miss classes, since every class is unique.
Professor Soloff has been my fav professor at Baruch so far. Really wish I was an advertising major after taking his class. His guest speakers are really funny too and push you to try your hand at selling yourself. Your grade is super reliant on the group project though. After taking this class, I'm considering working for a creative ad agency now.
The Professor is amazing in class, takes notes from powerpoints, group projects and one midterm (MC). He is an inspirational professor, will help you with resume and majority time in the class we watch advertising video. Take him you won't bored that is guaranteed. Books not necessary but the group project is important in his class.
Prof. Soloff is one of my favorite professors at Baruch. I took his classes 3 times. The campaign assignment with one partner was not easy, but you will learn a lot about advertising account planning. His explanation is always clear, and he loves questions from students. I found what I wanted to do in my life in his class. I will miss his class.
What an amazing professor! Took him for 2 classes and really looked forward to his class. He is very funny and extremely knowledgeable. Unlike most professors, Professor Soloff actually knows how to teach and makes sure you understand the material. Overall he is my number one Baruch professor
Just follow the syllabus and be in class and youll do fine.
One of the most unorganized profs at Baruch, either he grades it on the spot or spends weeks grading. The "textbook" he uses is $5 (used), but he sells it to you for $20 (at the end of the semester he offers to buy it back for $15). His classes sometimes consist of him just reading straight from the book to you, like it's story time.
Curve? Nope. If you mess up on the exam, that's it. Every single digit count in this class. if you get a 92.9 he won't curve to 93 and so on. Grading is random and lectures are extremely boring
Honestly was pretty excited for this class as I heard solid things about it but there is no way to know what grade ur going to get-you can follow his requirements perfectly but he grades subjectively. If you don't mind getting a B take it because its easy to get that but no way to tell if ur going to get an A even when you follow his directions
I took him for special topics which focused on account management. Prof Soloff made sure his students understood that an account manager maintains the company's existing relationships with a client or group of clients, so that they will continue using the company for business. Fun class overall, no exam, small assignment that are fun + career prep
The class is pretty simple, he places you into a group that you will work with the entire semester. If you complete your assignments on time and follow his instructions you'll do well. Only one test, a midterm, which is not difficult and there is extra credit if you slip up. Lectures can be dull but he shows a lot of fun commercials
This was a special topics class focused on career prep. This was the first time Baruch had a class like this and I'm very happy that I took the class. We just had weekly assignments on our resumes, summary statements, etc. There were no exams. After taking this class, my resume, summary statement, and elevator pitch have improved tremendously.
Prof. Soloff is nice and easy! Layout of class: 1 M/C exam, few quick assignments, teamwork is important and he'll put you into a team he believes works, 2 extra credit opportunities, and up to 3 absences with no grade deduction. Watch a lot of advertising commercials. I recommend taking him, easy, really!
He tries his best to offer you as much extra credit as he can. He only gives one exam that is worth 30%, but if you study his powerpoint slides, you will be fine. His test questions may seem tricky at first, but during the exam, he will tell you the answers are in the questions. As long as you read the questions carefully, you will do well.
I took him in the summer so I can't be certain he's like this year round. This is a professor that can be amazing, depending on what you're looking for. If you wish to learn A LOT per class, he isn't it. He's a great/chill/funny guy but that's it. You won't pass if you sleep or don't show up but some effort will guarantee you an A or B
Amazing professor. He is a bit disorganized but it works in your favor bc he will give you extensions on due dates if u ask, he's super nice (and funny). The most career prep I've ever had from any class. He really cares ab his students and will sit down with you to help you with your resume. One main project and take home quizzes from tb, easy.
EH. Not the worst teacher and not the best. Very monotonous class - projects are simply outdated and not fun. He's judgmental and doesn't articulate himself well. Tough grader, if he doesn't like your ideas, it's a bad idea. No phones in class, attendance matters. Barely any homework. Just projects and midterm/final
The whole class is based on a two-part project & one exam. The professor has lots of connections in the marketing world and his experience is enough to give a solid education. Some of the assignments are annoying though and the grading criteria aren't the clearest but he's not a bad professor. Participation matters. Solid 8.5/10
Amazing professor! He knows how to inspire his students! lectures have lots of fun, as well as correlate with his fantastic experience in the industry! You will work for the "A", but it worth it! Must take!
Lectures are boring. He's well educated in the field, but we get it, you had many jobs for many different companies Group project is everything. One midterm exam. Show up and participate or he will give you a zero for participation. Don't take him if you don't have to. This class was awful.
I enjoy his class because he gives really good marketing advice and lectures that my Zicklin professors did not give. He adds in a lot of videos to the slides so the class doesnt drag. One test in the middle of the semester and one big group project with little assignments due. Slow talker though and doesnt do well with technology.
Say what you will about him. He is the one professor I've had that truly cares about your future outside of the classroom. He will email blast any opportunity that comes his way and it's up to you to make the best out of it. I was able to go to Atlanta this semester for a Publicus conference because of him. Take him if you truly want guidance.
TAKE HIS CLASSES. I have taken 3 of his classes. Non of them are hard and all of them are worth it. He's an amazing professor. He has gotten me interviews with jobs and referrals. If you don't get an A in the class you are not showing up. He is the only professor who actually cares about your careers after college. take. his. classes.
Worst professor Ive ever taken at Baruch. Group projects is a heavy part of your grade and he assigns your group. If you dont like your group. GOOD LUCK. During a pandemic, communication is so important and he straight up ignores you. It was lovely to see his inbox full of emails unopened. Feedback is unclear but remember: only his opinion matter
Very passionate about his profession. My only advice is DON'T MISS ANY OF HIS CLASS. Other than that, there's simply no way to fail this class. He idiot-proof everything. You'll definitely learn a lot about Marketing in general and he offers great hands-on opportunities and experiences.
Professor Soloff is a good professor for advertising. He is passionate about the topics and gives great insights. You learn a lot. He has poor email communication skills and there are many typos in all his work. Group project phase A and B. You don't chose your group. Assignments, midterm, and group PPTs - presentation at the end. Don't get book.
Professor Soloff is knowledgeable about advertising. However, he comes of discouraging or even offensive at times. Generally, he has a problem working with computers: both in person at Baruch classroom, and when trying to work ZOOM.
hey its the covid guy again! a honest review tho, he's an okay professor. class is kinda easy, just hop onto the zoom lecture and afk. unfortunately i wasn't able to do that. group project is worth a good portion of your grade and it's really easy. like this class is really easy.... 1 midterm 1 big project and some attendence just show up
This entire class is group work which makes it a lot easier! Professor Solloff has his rudeness at times, but overall he is really sweet. You really learn a lot from the group projects about how to develop a marketing campaign which is super cool!! Only one midterm exam and the projects. Just do your part of the group work and its an easy A
Don't take him. He makes you turn on your camera (invasion of privacy), makes you put a profile pic. He is also offensive by making you interview 10 people with 15-25 questions each. He also criticizes old America whenever he shares old ads on zoom. He is also very political when it comes to political correctness.
Prof Soloff has been in the advertising industry for a while and it shows. He's enthusiastic, but his teaching content is outdated and not relevant. Most classes we watched commercials. He was very sarcastic to my group when we pitched slogan ideas, he thinks he's always right. Easy A class, but it could've been so much more. Very disappointed
Worst and rudest professor ever. AVOID. Class is basically just 4 take him quizzes that are straight from the textbook and a 3 part group project. He assigns work in a very confusing away and often sends out the wrong stuff. Graded the group project extremely harshly. If you dont provide corporate quality work be prepared to fail the project.
I did not learn anything in this class , complete waste of time , he's rude and never accept any suggestions. Extremely tough grader as well . No I won't recommend him at all .
Soloff is an understanding yet harsh professor. He wants you to the course assignments his way. Just do what he tells you and you will be fine. He is terrible at responding to emails and a good portion of your grade depends on the group he assigns you. I would only recommend him if he is your last resort for marketing elective courses.
super boring class would not recommend. horrible professor who will ignore you and there are a lot of group work
One of my favorite professors. This class is so chill and straightforward. Lectures are spent learning about various companies' marketing strategies. HW is just working on a group project. Prof Soloff is funny, kind, and approachable. He will answer any questions if you need help, so just ASK. Very lenient grading. I finished with a 99. No tests
Wanted to say he's an alright professor because of no exams and such, but after the semester, he took way too long to send in the final letter grades on CUNYFirst. Apparently he used a non-cuny or non-baruch email, which caused the delay. Also doesn't seem to reply back to emails in a timely manner. I would avoid if possible.
I would never take this professor again. I got a good grade in the class but he was very unhelpful and only criticized our work rather than give us constructive feedback. If you are lucky enough to pick a brand he likes and you have a good group, you should be okay. But, if not, what a nightmare. My final grade came in late too.
Ugh this man is such a mess!!! Unclear assignments date, syllabus is requirements are a mess, and rarely responds to emails. Only reason why I am taking him again is because the class in itself has cool projects. He as a professor is just a mess to deal with! Avoid if possible!
WORST WORST WORST PROFESSOR. doesnt even know the class himself. He Spent 2 weeks figuring out if the class was synchronous or hybrid. Then changes due dates to project the LAST MINUTE, like the day before. Doesnt hold himself accountable for what he says or does, even when you call him out, he just laughs and brushes it off.
midway thru the class and its honestly just a mess. some individual assignments and a group project that you work on for the whole sem. each week or so another part of it is due and it is a complete mess. small chance u end up with a decent group to get thru it but otherwise, ur screwed. grades harshly on every phase of the project. hassle+stress!!
Really bad professor, not clear in anything he says, never gives feedback, last time when asked for a feedback on a paper received it 2 months after, no clear grading criteria , he shouldn't be teaching online classes, maybe he is better in person but clearly doubt it.
nope, nope, nope, don't even bother, specially if its online, no feedback, degrading attitude to students, no clear explanations, no clear grading, impossible to understand what he wants from you in the class.
Do not take this professor, will not take anything from this class, if you see anyone else, just take someone else. Bad grader, bad explanations, no clear points.
I did not learn anything in this class , waste of time , he's especially rude and never accept any questions to his arguments. Extremely tough grader as well. No way I can recommend this professor.
The worst class I took ,would not recommend. Horrible professor who will ignore you and don't give any feedback, also there are a lot of group work which doesn't receive any feedback/
I would never take this professor again. I got a good grade in the class but he was very unhelpful and only criticized our work rather than give us any type of constructive feedback. Total nightmare. My final grade came in one moth after the semester finished too.
Worst professor ever. AVOID. He assigns work in a very confusing way and sends out wrong informations, then you finish the project and he sends out another stuff saying, oh sorry that was the wrong one. Graded the group project like I was in corporate this being an undergrad class, I would understand if that came with a feed back, but it doesn't.
Absolute mess. Professor didn't even know the format of his own course and spent two weeks trying to figure out whether the class was fully online or a hybrid. Constantly confuses everyone with due dates, doesn't give clear guidelines for his assignments while giving extremely harsh feedback, and isn't responsive to emails. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
probably one of the most confusing professors you'll ever have. If this is your last option then take the class at your own risk. Very unorganized and unclear grading. He will pick at every little thing in group projects. The class is all group projects, no midterm or final, rarely quizzes, some individual work. Lectures are a waste. Beware
a mess of a professor. i regret taking. what a stressful semester all bc of his unclear instructions, confusing (constantly changing due dates), pointless lectures, SO MANY parts to this group project that I'm just dying to get it over with. it was fun at first but the material just drags on and becomes non enjoyable.
AVOID! This class will ruin your gpa for no reason!!! He is an absolute mess the entire semester! The only positive is that this class can get you a foot into the advertising industry as you're getting "hands on" experience. BUT! and this is a big one- it solely depends on your group!!! Just do yourself a favor and avoid this class
Horribly disorganized. Constantly changed due dates verbally, but not on BB. He graded arbitrarily (no rubric, no clear directions, no rationale). Your whole grade is based on group work. Don't take if u don't have to. If u must take him it'll be fine, but you better hope you get lucky between group members and the way he just makes up grades.
The WORST professor I've had at Baruch. Disorganized, constantly changes due dates, confuses everyone. Nit-picks every little detail on the group projects (he creates the groups himself so gl if you have a bad group). Smaller assignments include case studies from 2003 that you must pay for and he takes points off without explanation. Save yourself!
Class is really good because you learn a lot of useful advertising things. Without a question though, Professor Soloff is disorganized. A lot of changed due dates and late graded stuff. He is nice and you will learn a lot from him long as you put in effort. Very group dependent but he is lenient about that and takes feedback about members seriously
Unclear with due dates and expectations, very unorganized, lectures have little to no value in terms of helping with the deliverables, strict feedback, not technologically savvy. The only point in his favor I will say is that he is lenient with accepting late work.
One of the most boring lectures, professor teaches about advertising from the 90's, he is not up to date + The only thing he does is show old videos and he shows them in all the classes. It's easy but very boring.
He's funny
I graduated already, working full time. His class is a big reason on how I was able to start my full time job prepared. I work for an agency, and his projects were exactly how it is in the real world
