As an Anatomy professor, Barry covers a lot of material and you need to keep up. But he is engaging, highly motivated, and willing to help students. His lectures & labs are very enjoyable. You will learn a great deal, but you NEED to always stay on top of the material! Recommend Highly!!

amazing teacher, so helpful and wants to help his students succeed. ALthough the material is hard he explains it well and gives you a break on the test by letting you use notecards. SO NICE, DFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM!

Its a lot of work.. the material is easy but the amount (especially the lab) can be at times very overwhelming... also.. i really like the fact that he lets you use index cards for each test so you wind up getting to use like 5 cards for the final... he's also really funny

Physiology is a hard class..but Barry puts the resources out there for you. Form study groups, and use his office hours! He is a dedicated teacher, but the material is difficult to understand if you space off during lecture and must rely on the book to catch up. Great teacher, hard class, but worth your time.

Barry is HILARIOUS. Such a cool guy and extremely clear/organized in lecture. Can use notecard on all tests. Lab is rediculously hard. Memorize all bones/bone bumps/muscles/nerves/etc in body! Don't take this class unless it's required. If you do need to, TAKE IT WITH HIM... SUCH AN AMAZING AND HELPFUL PROF!!!!!!!

Barry is a increduble teacher. He is very fair and gives you all of the info he quizzes you on. Not an easy class in that you need to do the work but as long as you do you'll be fine. Lots of extra credit. He wants his students to succeed and that shows!! He has a great sense of humor and is very appraochable. I'd take him again in a heart beat ;-p

This class is super hard. All his lectures are accumalative so be prepared to study your butt off! He allows you to have 3x5 cards in the midterms, he's really funny, I recommend him, very helpful.

I don't really think Barry is as funny as everyone says but he is a nice guy that is willing to talk to you about physio if you need to. The class (material) is not hard, per se, but it is extremely labor intensive and you cannot afford to slack off for even a couple days. A word of advice- do not rely on your 3x5 card to get you the good grade!

You will hate Barry, you will love Barry. he will work you to death but you will learn more than you ever have in any class. I had a career change after taking his classes. He knows it all inside out, is such a nice guy, so funny, so smart, really really helpful but you have to work hard to get a grade.

This class covers a lot of material and can be very overwhelming. I would not recommend taking Anatomy unless it is required. However, if you do take it, definitely take Barry's class. He is very helpful and goes out of his way to help you succeed.

WONDERFUL teacher. it is so nice to have a teacher that actually enjoys teaching. hes a really nice guy!

Course is difficult mostly because of the content rather the teaching style. You MUST spend time studying to understand. Tests are difficult but he provides opportunities for extra credit. Took it in the summer which likely increased the intensity/difficult 10 fold. Take the course in the regular semester to have a chance for a good grade.

Barry is extremely intelligent, but is able to teach his students the dense subject matter in a very easy to understand way. Study Hard, go to office hours, get to know him and you'll do fine. I loved his cheesy jokes too! I took his Physiology class because I liked him so much in Anatomy. Highly Recommended!

Amazing professor, but this class is not a cake walk. He will always make time for office hours. Lectures are extremely important to attend, and are very descriptive. STUDY HARD! Wish more BIO teachers were as passionate about science as he is. Good luck!

Had to study every day for this class to get a B! Barry is funny and explains the material very well but I really think he could teach more to the test. Found questions on the tests that I did not learn anywhere. Needed to use the internet quite often to teach myself... Still really learned a lot and enjoyed learning with Mr. T...

barry's physiology class is reallllly hard. it looks like he has great reviews on here but honestly don't go into this class thinking that he is going to be the most helpful resource. hes a chill guy and he does a pretty good job explaining everything but its tests are ridiculous. LOTS of trick true false questions and tons of drawings/graphs

Barry is a great teacher but you really have to be dedicated to the class. You earn your grade in the class so don't expect an easy A but if you take good notes and study you'll do well. Also, of you're unclear on anything, ask during class or see him in his office hours, he'll be more than willing to help you understand.

Barry is the best teacher I've ever had and I have a BA in another discipline. I took his Anatomy class and had to work ten times as hard as any other class, but I really know Anatomy now and it has helped me in all my other BMS courses. Barry gives help to those students who help themselves. Take his class if you are a dedicated student!

Berry is an amazing teacher. yes, he is hard, but again what do you expect from a class that covers such dense material. His lectures are very clear and if you study from the online lectures he posts and his in class lectures you will get an A. Very helpful in office hours. He will help any way he can if he sees your trying. You will learn a lot.

The lab is great & he explains things well, but the lecture/reading assignments are all over the place. His tests are a joke. He tells you what to study and then it's not on the test. I often spent a half hour trying to find a single answer, even using alternate textbooks & the Internet. This is a tough subject. He made it tougher.

Took the class during summer. It was not easy at all. He expected us to know EVERYTHING. He didn't really have time to teach so the book was necessary. Make sure you understand every lab because getting good quiz grades is needed if you want an A. Overall a nice guy and pretty helpful. I got an A but it was super hard and I had to know everything@

Barry is VERY WILLING to help his students so definitely make full use of that. Anytime you can go to office hours do and he will help you until you understand, make sure to show him your genuine enthusiasm. He will keep you on your toes so work hard, but its very doable. Dont read book cover to cover its a waste of your time.

This class is TOUGH. There is a lot of material to learn every single lab. His test questions can be a bit ridiculous, some are very challenging. If you don't keep up with the material, you will way too far behind in class. Everything is cumulative. He does give a ton of extra credit. Expects you to know everything, but is a fair grader. Everyone likes Barry. He is a great teacher and provides many extra credit opportunities for students to improve. There is a lot of content in this course but because he is so funny, he also makes it easier for students to engage in what he is teaching.

This is the hardest class you will ever take. However, Barry makes it 100% worth it. The best thing about this class is that if you work hard, it shows up instantly in your grades. Make time to study everyday and read everything he provides for you at least twice. Barry provides all the tools you need to succeed but it is up to you to use them.

Barry is the best professor ever! One of the hardest classes ive ever taken but fun! You learn alot with barry, just make sure you go to lecture and especially lab, if you skip lab you wont pass! Lab quizzes and midterms are all CUMULATIVE! I recommend to look at back at your notes from the beginning of the semester at least once a week.

Weekly lab assignments/quizzes. He lectures fast! PAY ATTENTION FIRST 2-3 WEEKS OF LECTURE. What you learn those first 2-3 weeks are crucial for understanding the course!

Barry is amazing. I dont recommend taking anatomy online if you fall behind easily especially with assigned readings. Going lab every week is essential. If you dont think you can dedicate enough time, dont take this course online.

Barry loves teaching, and is passionate about Anatomy and Physiology. However, The class materials are unorganized, there is no study guide, and no clear verbal guidance as to what we are supposed to focus on. Similarly, the tests are very hard with true:false and multiple choice. He makes inappropriate comments. Use tutors and old exams and WORK!

I loved taking Anatomy (BMS 107) with him! He sparked my interest in the medical field. If you ACTUALLY put in the time to study, this class is easy. Read the assigned readings before class- it helps you understand the lecture material better. Also, be sure to visit him during his office hours... he will help you if you take the time!

I've taken 2 classes with Barry and would absolutely take more. Be aware, his class is difficult and there's a lot of material, but as long as you keep on top of assignments (reading and online) you should be fine. Also, if you're having problems definitely go see him. He'll offer suggestions and will be appreciative you came to him for help.

He really cares about his students. The textbook is not mandatory. You will get every answer to each exam straight from your lecture notes. Very clear on what he wants. DRAW EVERY DIAGRAM REPEATEDLY!! Pop quizzes are easy as long as you read over previous notes before lecture. Barry truly is the best teacher in the bio dep... Read & Rewrite notes!

Barry is really passionate about what he does, and I think he is awesome. He knows what he's talking about, but if you don't put in the work he won't chase after you or even really acknowledge you. The class is hard and there is a lot of work but he makes you feel confident that you can complete it. Just don't slack off and you'll be fine!

Physiology is a TOUGH course! Get ready to pay very close attention in lectures. Also, make sure to draw every one of his schemas or diagrams and be able to recreate them. I took physio with Barry in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis. He put in a lot of effort getting the class online so we could finish the semester. I respect him immensely.

Barry's classes are hard. No getting around that but Anatomy and Physiology are very hard classes. Barry gives great notes, excellent study tools, and is working hard to make everything smooth while we have to be online. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and is very accessible if you reach out to him. Make sure to be organized and study!

Barry Tanowitz seems hard to conversate with. But if you try to reach him many times, he will reply to you by email. Anatomy is a hard class than you think. If you are not familiar with anatomical terms, be prepared to study more. He gives tons of extra credit; I really appreciate it. Don't give up and keep the work you are doing.

I had Barry for both Anat + Physio and my best advice is, if you're not willing to put in the work don't take Barry's classes. His classes are hard but he gives you everything you need to succeed and there is a lot of extra credit embedded within the class. He is more understanding and caring than he sometimes portrays, and he is a great professor.

Took BMS 107 with Barry and it was one of the hardest A's I have ever gotten. However, he prepared me for classes I had at University. Back taking physio again with Barry and it is the same story as BMS 107. Read your lecture notes, any information Barry gives you must learn, and do all the extra credit assigned. Treat it like a job, you will pass.

I found Barry's teaching style to be perfect for physio. He'd always take time to draw every schema/structure which was super helpful. The nature of the class is tough & he doesn't hold your hand but he gives A LOT of resources that you need to take advantage of. If you plan to transfer to a UC, be ready bc many profs run their courses like him imo

I took the course of the summer and didn't do as well as I wanted, but the professor helped me get to where I needed to be to pass the class. He was easy to reach and responded to questions within a short time frame. His lectures are also well organized and easy to follow, so are the study guides for exams. Great professor!

I love Barry as a person! But the way his class is structured is very difficult to not to fall back. Lab is the easiest part of the class. But lectures are heavy with so much information. Everything is cumulative which makes everything worse. Take advantage of tutors and review sessions!!

But… if you want to spend countless hours studying and barely hang on to a good grade then this class is for you. This class is NOT for the weak. Take with ease.

Oh, how much I tortured Prof. Tanowitz. Tons of questions, and he loved answering those. This is a medical field, so you like it or not, you have to study. He offers everything that he knows and then some, and it's our job to absorb the info. I personally loved his slow, handwritten lectures, better than others that don't allow taking pictures...;)

Professor Tanowitz is excellent. He makes memorizing all those bones, organs and systems enjoyable.

Professor Barry's class is no cakewalk, but the resources he provides can be a lifesaver. Lectures are dense, so staying engaged and using tools like Unstuck study are key. The workload is heavy, but put in the effort and you'll learn a ton.

The professor deserves a higher rating. Labs were fun, and he's very knowledgeable. He's a tough grader and expects a lot— course requires serious effort, both in and outside of class (expected for a healthcare career). He might be a bit old-school, but it was a great course. He's dedicated, always available, genuinely cares about student success.

This was the hardest course I've ever taken, but the professor and tutor were incredibly helpful. Joining a study group is highly recommended—it helps with learning the material. Despite its difficulty, it was one of my favorite classes. The professor is a tough grader but always available, eager to help, and truly wants students to succeed.

Online was easier than in person. I have taken him in person first and it seemed harder. I didn't pass so I took him online and much easier. He literally does videos and basically gives the answers for the lab work book.
