He'll put the sleeper hold on you and you'll walk away from the class wondering what the h@#$ he was talking about. Tutors were helpful, easy class.
after the first couple classes, i never went to class. it is just that uncler, boring, and not helpful. he posts the powerpoint presentations on the web; the tutors teach better than him. i went to the tutors for the projects and they REALLY HELPED! GO!
Barry Wray has got to be the most boring teacher I have ever had!!! Unless you know a lot about computers...your probably not going to do that great. He wastes a crazy amount of time talking about things that dont even apply to the class
STAY AWAY! Extremely Boring, and does not make the assignments clear. Does easy examples in class then assigns much harder projects and then takes points off for things he didn't explain well.

he doesnt teach a thing. he assigns hard projects and his tests are foreign to anything he went over, or whats in the book. went to his help sessions? he cut us off during it and said, "im done; you guys have to leave now" UGH
Learned more about his boring life and computer at his old college than anything even of slightful usefulness to be applied to tests or projects. Some people were just not cut out to be teachers and this guy is one of them. A complete waste of time and energy.
do not take Barry Wray. If you enjoy teaching yourself, then you will like this class. Dont waste your money on the book because he dosnt use it. He just talks about the good oleBridgewater college. he doesnt cover whats goin to be on the test, unless its related to his life.
I had him for statistics over the summer, I thought his class was pretty easy and his tests simple and clear. Didn't have any problems with him but I've heard the horror stories about his MIS 213 classes!
Went to the first few classes then decided it was a waste of time. Read the powerpoints on your own time and figure out the projects yourself with the PPTs and the text books (if you buy them). Managed to get an A by doing that and attending only test day classes. He will help you if you ask for it.
If you are good at math and concepts you will do fine.The software that he uses is great because if you dont understanded the way he explains it, you can just go learn it yourself.Midterm was very fair and he was very understanding with the grades.You get a formula sheet to put whatever you want!
The absolute worst teacher at UNCW. I could have learned more in my sleep than in his class. He has no idea what he is talking about and for the first time has an attendance policy, most likely because no one would ever go to his class if he didn't. Bottom line is he sucks.
A very nice guy and knows what he is doing but has hard time conveying that to the class. He explains some things in an arkward way. Overall I thought that it was an easy class since I know a lot about this stuff. Has a hard attendance policy in place now.

BORING class. Rambles on and on about useless stuff. Waste a lot of class time when he could be teaching. I got an A in the class but you must have a good understanding before taking or it will be hard to learn. I would suggest taking someone else.
Ok the material in this class is not difficult. Just got to pay a LIttl bit of attention to what he say. He does loss track and talk about other things. People that don't do good in this class put no effort in it. I put a little bit of effort and made an A. Overal he is a nice guy and he is helpful outside of class.
I would have been fine teaching myself with the book and his online homework. Dr Wray is the most unclear unhelpful prof. i've ever had. His mandatory attendance policy doesn't help at all because he is a horrible teacher!
Difficult to follow. He goes of on tangents and rarely returns from them. Easy course material though, he pulls the quiz questions from the online homework. Would not recommend.
Barry is NOT a good teacher. If you don't like internet or distance learning classes, do not take this class. He doesn't teach... and when he does he doesn't know what he's talking about. Most famous phrase: "I swear this worked before." I don't know how he got his Ph.D.
DRY! No sense of humor what so ever. Talks around the point for 20-30 minutes before getting to it. He is a pretty easy grader though. He doesn't want anyone to fail. TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONE! or you will get kicked out of class.
Wray is an alright guy, but the class is kind of boring. Quizes are not the hard though. You should be able to make at least a B if you take him.
good guy and he's good at getting the material to relate to real life situations. his tests and quizzes are not hard if you do the homework, which he doesn't give that much. he always shows you the easiest way to do things...take him if you can.
If you don't mind teaching the material to yourself you can take barry. Many of times I recall leaving the class not knowing anything of what he was talking about. I found myself sitting in the front row with a confused look on my face every class. I did fine after I taught myself everything.
Very helpful and is willing to take the time to expain any problem as many times as he needs to. He is available to help after his classes and in his office. He explains everything very clearly and it all makes sence before the quiz which he has plenty of.
Dr. Wray is a good teacher. The material might not be that interesting, but he will drill it into your skull until you know it inside and out. Just go to class, and do the homework, and you should be fine.
Good teacher. Has a habit of rambling about nothing but gets his message across and if you do the one homework assignment a month and do what he asks of you (which is not much at all) then you will be fine.Attendance is not mandatory but its not a great idea to miss too many classes.
Barry Wray is NOT a good teacher! He is soooo boring to where I give myself 25 minutes before I fall asleep! He rambles on about random things that have nothing or little to do with what's going on! I would not recommend him to anyone!!
Dr. Wray knows his stuff. He's really good at explaining something that is not fun to learn on your own. Having seen a different instructor in the department teach this course, he is definitely the best choice. Go to class and pay attention, do the homework and practice those problems for exams and you'll do great
Such a boring class. If you have taken stats before, it will be easy though. He RAMBLES. Do the homework, it is just like the quizzes/tests. Attendance is not mandatory but I would go to class so you don't have to teach yourself. He does teach it, it just takes 20 minutes to finally get to the point.
A very nice professor. Stats can be difficult in general, and Professor Wray has a tendency to fly through the material. Do homework and study and you should do fine. He lets you use a 2-sided paper for each test.

4 quizzes and 2 tests are the only grades. Quizzes are easy b/c they are the h/w problems (that you don't have to turn in). Won't explain anything twice. You must ask a specific question. Tricky Tests (multiple choice w/ none of the above makes u 2nd guess),Nice guy, boring class (but it's stats!),Explains material very well. Knows his stuff.
He does a good job. You can tell he loves stats and cares if you understand. He's a very good professor
Really knows what he is doing. Take him during the summer because all he does is give you homework and then test you on it after he gives the answers. Really nice and helps/ answer questions when needed. Easy A if you go to class and do the homework.
I took him over the summer and I hear he is much easier than during the regular semester. Homework is not collected, but he will go over it. We had a full page cheat sheet on our test and final exam. I would recommend taking this class over the summer!
Very good professor. He explains the material well. He tells lots of stories :) some of them are funny and they actualy have somethign to do with the material which is taught in class. Not a hard class at all.
Good professor. Very bland. Class is pretty cut and dry. Your grades are based off chapters quizs and quizs on the material such as excell, access, etc. Very nice guy, always willing to help and explain.
Didnt really have much interest in statistics but after his class I kinda enjoy it! He is a great professor that tries to relate the information to real life situations. You have to do the homework to understand quiz and test info. He WILL always help you if you need it. Totally open and tries his best to give you credit. Pretty straight forward
So bad at teaching this class. 50% of your grade comes from reading the text book and taking publisher quizes that he refuses to teach in class. And, he is suppose to be teaching statistics.
He is helpful if you ask, but uses a lot of technical terminology when teaching that makes the class really confusing. Exercises are not that hard, but watch out for the theory questions, especially in the exams, since he ask questions about stuff he never talked about or went over in class really briefly. Also uses tricky answers in the tests.
Barry Wray is a great teacher who wants YOU to learn. He will give you everything to make a good grade and then some. Make sure to do all the homework as the test/quizzes are almost identical to it. Negatives include: holding you late every single class.
For multiple choice used "none of the above" answer 3 questions in a row.. what is that?? Willing to help if requested. Comes across a bit arrogant, which is a trun off when trying to learn from someone.

Soooo arrogant! Seems to know EVERYTHING. If you try and answer something in class he will either immediately shut you down if you're wrong and if you're right he ignores it. Quizzes are only 4 ?'s and it seems he purposely tries and trips you up on wording. Easy material but he makes it AWFUL! do not take!
Everyone said this class was so hard and at least 6 people in were retaking it. I was surprised because the class is not that difficult and Dr Wray does everything he can to help. All quizzes are just questions from optional homework assignments. The tests were pretty easy and much like the questions in the back of the book.

Really hard class, but cares a lot about the students and is a pretty easy grader. If you do the work you are required to you will easily learn the material.
Arrogant. He's not a bad teacher, but rubs it in if you don't say the answer he's looking for in class. Not too hard as long as you study, but you HAVE to study. And attendance isn't mandatory, but I wouldn't recommend skipping. Always goes over in class time.
I really enjoyed this class, I learned a lot about how to use Excel. Getting a good grade will require a bit of work, but it's not overwhelming. Lots of my classmates complained about how hard it was, but they just aren't willing to put in the effort. Really nice guy and is willing to help if you don't understand
Effort is required for studying. One bad quiz grade can severely harm your final average. He is willing to talk to you if you have questions. He has a strict NO extra credit policy. Word of warning: the final is much harder than the other tests.

Constantly goes on rants that have nothing to do what we are learning. I hate myself every time I go to class. Tests are randomly very difficult after he talks about nothing all class.
He always talks about many things that are nothing to do with learning.Quizzes and tests are very close related to your final score. If you think you are really good at (learning) statistics then you can take him. For me I have learned half of these stuff in high school so its very easy for me and I am pretty sure I can get an A.
Kind of a hard class and his teaching style didn't help. He is very strict and gives no extra credit or grade boosters. The only grades you have are 5 quizzes that are always tricky and a midterm and final. If you study on your own and do the homework you'll be fine.
Very unorganized. He is not a good teacher. When he asks questions, he drills you about them, making you not want to answer the next time. Doesn't explain material well, so you end up having to learn it on your own.
He takes what should be an easy class and tries to make it so much more difficult than it really is. There wasn't a single class I went to that I did not regret skipping because he does not require attendance and you can just study the homework problems the night before. I wouldn't take this class with him unless you have to.
If you have taken any type of stats class before this, this class will be a breeze, If not it'll probably be a little more difficult but definitely bearable. As long as you do the homework (even though it isn't required) you will be fine
Horrible teaacher!!! Always goes off on tangents so it makes it hard to focus in class. He also makes things more complicated than it needs to be. He doesn't grade the homework but I would suggest doing them because his quizzes are questions from the homework. Don't take this teacher unless you have to.

Very knowledgeable about everything he teaches and really wants everyone to do well and be successful. He gives 5 quizzes and two tests including a final. If you go to class (Not required) then you should get a B even with no previous knowledge of the subject.
During the course I became lost at his unclear teaching methods. The class is made up of ONLY 5 quizzes worth 33%, midterm 33%, and a final exam 34%. If you mess up on a quiz or so or the midterm you are SCREWED. Statistics is a hard concept to grasp for some, who teaches you really matters. I asked to be bumped up to a C and he would not help.
His class is no doubt one of the hardest I have ever taken, so if you don't have a good grasp on the basics of statistics then I would suggest taking someone else. He is very knowledgeable about stats but is not very good at teaching it.
Barry Wray is not clear or consistent in his lectures. He is rude to students who participate in class and talks down to them even when they are giving a correct answer. Going to office hours is not helpful. To structure a class as having only 5 quizzes, a midterm and a cumulative final as the only grades is lazy and sets students up for failure.
He's kind of annoying, but he presents the material well. If you take notes and go to class you'll pass.

He is really bad at teaching, does not explain things well at all. 70% of his lectures are rambling tangents. Take it online (in summer) so you can fast forward through the really unnecessary parts and so you can use open notes on everything. Truly horrible professor take someone else if you can.
He has a bad rep because the course is difficult as it is. However, if you go to the tutoring sessions or meet with him (i suggest meeting one on one with him) he is very thoughtful and helpful.
He is a really cool teacher that cares about his students. QMM isn't easy but if you participate and ask questions when you don't understand he will help you until you get it perfectly. Not a hard class to get an A in as long as you put in the effort.
Strongly disliked this class as my first statistics class ever. He expects you to know material and he uses overly scientific language instead of trying to explain things. The class itself wasn't that hard, I usually had to teach myself through his homework examples.
If you do the homework, like any decent student who cares about their future should do, you will get at LEAST a B in the course. His test are not difficult as long as you understand the material from showing up for class. He makes it easy to understand the material through real examples.
I took this class online and found it pretty difficult. He does what he can to help you out though. 1 midterm worth 1/3 of your grade, 10 quizzes worth the other 1/3, and the final worth the last third. What you put into this class is definitely what you get out of it. The book is key.
Do not take this chance if you don't have the time to watch at least 5 hours of videos every week + another 5 hours studying the poorly written book to figure out how to pass the class.
Took his face to face class and would recommend! You have a midterm and a final with 5 quizzes. Each quiz is one problem from the homework. Attendance is not mandatory. as long as you do the homework and study the material a little you will do just fine. He is a great professor and teaches in a way that keeps you interested.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. His questions are very confusing and trys to trip you up. I emailed him 3 times to try and get extra help, a week and a half went by and he never responded me. The first time I have ever withdrawn from a class.
He is a super sweet man, but he is not a very good teacher. He doesn't use powerpoints, he just writes examples of the board so it can be confusing at times. He can make super simple subjects way harder than they need to be. He only grades you on quizzes, the midterm and the final so you have to well on every single assignment to do well.
Don't take him at all. Taking his class is basically learning stat by yourself, so if your not great at math your not going to do well. He only has quizzes and test so if you don't do great on one of them your grade reflects it. Also he goes on 30-45 min rants about pointless topics that nobody cares about that are not related to the class.
He is a nice person but not a good teacher. BAN 280 only had 1 midterm, 6 quizzes and a final. Wray is a really nice person. However, his lectures were pretty dry and he could overcomplicate some pretty simple material. Each for 33% of your grade, so you can't afford to slip up on anything.
6 quizzes, midterm, & final- each category weighted around 30%. This class is not easy, but you will get an A if you STUDY using the homework and the book . For all of the quizzes, they mirrored the homework but maybe 5 questions w/ diff #'s. The math is the easiest part of the class, its all about understanding what the concepts actually mean
Barry just jumps straight into the lesson by doing examples on the board. He doesn't explain what he's doing while he's doing it and in my opinion, does not know how to teach. He definitely can talk, but overcomplicates everything. The first day of class he gave us formulas to calculate the mean median and mode. Find your own way to do the math.
Prof Wray is a nice guy who obviously loves math, but his lectures can be very boring. Your grade doesn't consist of much so you need to study for all the quizzes and tests. If you don't read the textbook before the lectures you will probably get lost, but if you are a good student and good at math you will be able to earn an A.
Really smart guy but he lectures suck. He really doesn't teach at all; most of his lectures consist of him going on tangents that don't pertain to what we're going to be tested on for the entire class. He also is bad at asking students questions - most of the time the class sits silent while we wait for it to be over.
I did not want to but my class is online. I was a new transfer to UNCW and that is all they had. So this guy really goes on tangents in the video lecture. He has 10 quizzes and a midterm and a final and that is all! Quizzes are NOTHING like the optional homework. Do yourself a favor and find someone else!
The class is simple and pretty straight forward. If you do the work that he assigns you will do fine on the tests and quizzes. However, his lectures are often off topic and for someone who has a hard time focusing on lectures to begin with it is often hard to listen intently to the material. He is very good at what he does and is understanding.
DO NOT TAKE!!! I thought taking BAN 280 online over the summer would be easy but boy was I wrong. You can read all you want and watch his lectures, but when you go to take these quizzes or exams they are NEVER anything we had learned in that lesson. The homework he gives you to help with the quiz is never helpful since none of it is on the quiz.

Dr. Wray is passionate and informed about what he teaches but it is clear that he doesn't know how to teach. This class is the reason I will no longer have a 4.0 after this semester. spent most time studying trying to figure out what was going on because everything is overcomplicated. felt like I was decoding just to teach myself the material.

Lectures are kinda boring and he goes on a LOT of tangents that have nothing to do with the class. Usually in the lecture it's about 15 min of actual learning and 30-40 min of tangents or repeating himself. The book he gives also isn't really good at explaining things.

This is genuinely the worst professor I have ever had. I have never had a teacher struggle so badly to teach a class. I passed after teaching myself 90% of the material as his lectures are nothing like the assigned work.
Y'all are sleeping on Professor Wray.I took BAN 303 with him (prescriptive analytics).His lectures contain everything you need to know for the homework/tests/quizzes. He made himself available to me within an hour of reaching out for help every time. He is so smart and genuinely wants his students to succeed. Do the assigned work and you'll be fine

Taking his class is a nightmare, he doesn't teach. He always gets off topic and you basically teach yourself all the material. Save yourself a failing grade, he only grades quizzes and test.
The class is more difficult than it should be, but not because of the material. Dr. Wray is a nice guy, but his lessons are hard to understand because he explains them in a way only he can understand. You can sit through an entire hour and fifteen minute lecture giving your full and undivided attention and still not fully grasp the concept.

I think he's given too much grief. Teaches things well, almost goes over things TOO much. Responds to emails quickly. Gives free "bonus" questions on almost all quizzes and exams. Homework isn't required but definitely helps. My only complaint is that he randomly calls on people and can come off as rude when he does, but I don't think he means to.

Midway through but have an A so far. 8 total grades, 6 quizzes and 1 midterm, 1 final. But the 6 quizzes are the same exact questions with different numbers as the HW. Professor Wray was very helpful in BAN280. The subject is hard on its own, but professor Wray always went over problems and let us know when quizzes/tests would be. He also let me take a quiz outside of class when I was out of town for an event. Would highly recommend if he is available. Going to class is important unless you want to teach yourself
Don't. Just don't. I made the mistake of not listening to RMP. Don't do what I did. The worst professor ever rambled on about lemonade and unicycles for 45 minutes. I never went to class unless we had a quiz or midterm, and I taught myself the whole class. DO NOT TAKE
I do not recommend taking this class with Barry. He talks about irrelevant things the whole class and doesn't even go over the material really. He makes you feel dumb when you ask a question. Very boring to listen to. He goes over quizzes and exams but that's the only helpful thing. Utilize the tutor!!

What a guy!!! The people leaving bad reviews probably never showed up to class. There is no reason you shouldn't at least get a B. The only way to make the class easier was if he gave out all the answers directly to us. Easy quizzes and 2 tests. Was worried going in due to bad RMP, but not called for at all. Barry is a pretty quirky professor, but his class is manageable if you stay engaged. The quizzes and tests are fair, and Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for my study prep. Just don't slack on attendance.

I can't bring myself to write a negative review despite my experience. Wray is a great guy who is very passionate about the material and teaching it, but his teaching style isn't the most efficient. Most of the material can be learnt in 15 minutes, but he somehow drags it out over three days. Takes attendance via quizzes + handing them back.
Terrible professor, honestly don't even know how he's the head of a department. All he does is ramble about stuff he knows about but doesn't actually teach the class. Also said our final was not cumulative and then the day before the final says that it is cumulative. Very boring, hard to understand, and a terrible professor overall. DO NOT TAKE!!!!

This class online was very easy. Weekly quizzes, midterm, and final (only things that are graded).
You are better off not going to a single class and using Chat GPT to teach you the classwork. (He can't teach)
The online class was easy, but I thought the online lecture videos weren't super useful. If I had to retake this class, I would probably take it in person. I did not like his grading policy. Some of the questions on tests and quizzes were meant to trick you. Overall, easy but meh.
