good teacher, get him for 101 or 102 if you can.
i never understood anything in lecture. learned more just from doing homework problems.

No study sheets. Always behind schedule. Has annoying habit of erasing and redrawing lines on board if not exactly straight. Takes 30min to answer a question that may be answered in 2mins.
He was a very anal professor. Acts very immature for his age. During a lecture he got so UPSET because a student opened a soda and said who ever did that leave then he walked out of class for at least 5-10min. He was the disturbance not the student.
he is the worst professor i had. he is so picky about everything. when he teaches, it takes him 20 minutes to answer a simple question. he is not clear at all when he tries to explain material. i would not reccommend this professor to anyone.
Compared to the other intructors, he is very behind in teaching the material, gives quizes that are tougher than other instructors, and is very unclear about what he's presenting
I personally would recommend Dr. Jones! Don't give up to soon. The class eventually becomes easier so don't fret! Quizzes are hard, but the tests aren't too bad if you review! He's a funny guy and a little goofy! Enjoy chem at this level!

Dr. Jones is an incredibly intelligent man who truly cares about teaching. His class is far from easy, but he is always willing to help those who need assistance and is very thorough in his explainations. Don't like science? Don't take Dr. Jones.
He's quite young at heart. Kind of a big nerd, heh. His class was pretty difficult, but if you truly take the time to study, you will do well.
Hardest.Class.Ever. If you put in 6-10 times more hours than you ever have for a lab and lecture in your entire life, you should pull out a B or C. If you don't, you will fail miserably. *Not for pregnant women or those with heart conditions.*
nice guy but horrible teacher. he knows way too much to teach anything but a 400+ level class. he expects you to know the material without giving any explaination. he goes really fast and doesn't offer any slack/extra credit when it comes to grades
Very hard class, Dr. Jones is a little finicky over a soda can being opened during class. He doesn't explain in detail just leaves you out there. I wouldn't recommenf the class or professor.
This class will take over your life and infect your dreams. It is suicide. I've probably learned more in this class than any other class though, and still probably got a D. Dr. Jones is a really cool person though and always willing to help. Good luck.
**Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here** This is a tough course but Dr. Jones is the best professor you could ever hope to take it under. He is without a doubt the most understanding and HELPFUL instructor/person I have ever met. He will NOT give up on U
Dr. Jones is a funny guy but very hard. He is confusing. He doesn't go very deep into detail. He expects that you already know everything. Almost everything I did in HS CHM we had on the first test. Also not all of his TA's are helpful. Mine isn't.
Dr. Jones is actually a pretty good teacher. He's a HUGE dork, and he knows it, but that makes it funny. He is pretty difficult in lecture, and I heard NOT to take his Lab, but he's kind of funny sometimes. Word of advice: DO NOT leave his class in the middle of a lecture.
is probably a smart person but doesnt know how to teach well...hard to understand what he's trying to say
Dr. Jones is a smart guy but he leaves you hanging during lectures. He tells you concepts that you need to know and then on the test the concepts will be much more in depth and confusing. I don't think he is a very good teacher. Lectures are very boring!
Hard class but he'll help out after class anytime you ask and things get to be more clear. Really nice guy, cracks some bad jokes, drives a motorcycle. Sit up front and ask questions or you will get lost in a sea of students...
NERD ALERT!!!!! he broke his pocket protector during class one day. all bashing aside, hes actually a decent teacher with damnn hard quizzes
He is a nerd, but he's funny in that aspect. This is one of the hardest classes that i have taken. Study your butt off for this class. There is grade replacement with the final exam but you still need to study your hardest for the other three exams. They're hard!! Good luck!
he sucks!! hes a very bad teacher who goes off on tangents.
Dr.Jones is such a nerd, but actually pretty cool once you get to know him. By far one of the most helpful professors I have ever had, he will help you long after you are out of his class. Quizzes are diffucult but, he will tell you exactly what to study. Great guy! Great professor!
my favorite professor at uncw! if you stay after and ask for help, he'll do everything in his power to make you understand. just don't get behind.. the second that you don't get something, go ask. i met with him all the time and i ended up with a B and if I can do it, anyone can.
This guy is a huge nerd but he knows it. He tries to ensure everyone understands but chemistry is no cake walk.
just call him bill nye... he's funny and overall a really cool guy. he will help you if you show interest. go to him during office hours and put a face with your name- it's a big class.
Does a great job making sure that you understand the material. However, he expects you to come to class prepared, having completed assignments, reading, etc. Dont knock the homework...it will help if you aren't a chemistry person.
Probably the worst teacher in UNCW. Dr. Jones still has a chip on his shoulder since he was a student. I reccomend that the man retire before he ruins another person's career.
Although he is a difficult teacher, he explains things very well and cares deeply about how the students are doing. He's a strict grader and a stickler for detail, but I learned the most in his class of any chemistry course. I would recommend him.
Dr Jones is very knowledgeable and enjoys the subject. However, he is extremely unorganized. He comes to class with his lecture on a sticky note. He then seems to jump sporadically from one subject to the next. It doesn't all seem coherent. If I were a student who had just taken chemistry in high school, I could probably follow it. However, i

Difficult material but Dr. Jones does a good job of explaining the material in an "elementary" way. Also, he is very helpful but tests and quizzes can be difficult if you don't study hard. Practice tests are available online and are very helpful. If you are a science person or you try hard then you can easily make a B and maybe even an A.
Kindof hard to follow in class, but he makes chemistry easier to understand. He's funny and a big nerd. His quizzes can be tough if you don't know the material, but he is always willing to stay after or meet outside of class to help if you're having trouble with anything.
Dr. Jones was an awesome professor. As a chem minor I took a difficult upper level chem class with him (I think there were two non-chem majors in there). He was extremely helpful and I couldn't have passed the class without him.
Go to class, and copy the examples, he really prepares students for the exams which are difficult (department wide exams). I think he does a good job at teaching a difficult subject.
He was a good teacher, I just couldn't really pay attention to him. Make sure you go to class, copy down everything he writes on the board, and study study STUDY for the exams and quizzes bc they will kick your ass.
I loved him as a person--he's hilarious and really enjoys teaching. However, I found that his lectures did not prepare us for the difficult exams that the department gave. He's really good with helping you after class or during his office hours though.
The class isn't that hard, he's just a sucky teacher. He is really sporadic with his lectures, and refers too much to his graduate studies. I guess he dosn't realize that everyone that takes this class isn't a chem major. Don't take chem under him if u can help it!!!
Dr. Jones goes over a ton of stuff each class but he's such a good professor that you don't get lost too bad. In my opinion he prepares you very well for the exams. Definately recommend him.
Cares more about his grad students than anyone else, thinks everyone is a "chm nerd" and going to major in chm. Def didn't prepare you for exams, nice one on one, jerk in class. Don't let your cell phone ring nor crinkle a bag of food, he'll give you hell for it. Don't take him if at all possible.
Nice guy. Very accessible and willing to help outside class. I'm not a science person and I got an A.
Cares about his students, but not the best teacher. He is almost too smart, and brags about his damn lab equipment all the time. Tests were hard and he could have helped prepare the class better.

Great teacher
Dr. Jones is so awesome! He is very competent and expects lots from his COLLEGE students!
Really good teacher! Some of the stuff he says is really random but it is hilarious. If you took high school chemistry the class will be a review. Work a lot of problems to study for the tests. The tests are manageable but they try to trick you so read it twice.
Dr. Jones was great! Very nice, funny, good teacher. He actually taught a lot in class, so it was important to attend the lectures. His T-Score grading method helps bring your way up, so if you pay attention in class and review your notes, you'll do pretty well.
dont take if your not that good at chemistry, doesnt explain things real well and is not the person to take if you are not too good in chem to start. Overall though, as you already know, dont take chem if its not remmomended for your major
This was a difficult class. He's okay one-on-one and willing to help, but he seems to think that everyone is going to be a CHEM major. If you're decent at Chem. in the first place, it's not a bad idea to take Jones.
This is professor isnt so bad as thought. He is really helpful and cares about his students. Very funny in some way. If you study what he talks in class, it will be easy to get an A on all his tests. He even has practices exam online that are almost identical to his real exams! I am not a chemistry major and is doing really well in this class.
I loved Jones! He really knew his stuff (major nerd) but made em interested in chemistry. I had it years ago in high school and didn't do well and I did great in his class. He is enthusiastic, energetic, loves to talk about his motorcycle and wants all students to be a chem major. While I'm not switching, it's my minor now. TAKE HIM! He rocks!

Best chemistry teacher I ever had and it is the lazy and indigent who fall behind his class, or those who get cocky or have no respect. He convinced me to major in chemistry by making it fun for me.
Dr. Jones is a really fun guy. His class moves pretty quickly and he doesn't use powerpoints for lectures like some other chm teachers. The class is pretty hard but the chm department puts a huge curve on tests and quizzes. Overall he is a good teacher and I'd recommend taking him! (Just don't let your phone ring or leave class early)
Jones is the man. I had always been interested in Chemistry but he really sparked my interest and made it to where I wanted to learn more. If you can get him, DO IT!
Dr. Jones is one interesting character. He is tough on you in seminar but you come out feeling much better about public speaking. Highly recommended!
amazing professor. i had a horrible chemisty teacher my sophomore year in high school & swore never again to take a chem class, but because i'm pre-pharmacy, i had to. this guy is amazing. i did alright in the class. & i had him as my lab instructor...awesome. lots of fun times. he's def one of the best!!!
He's beyond arrogant. Tough grader, but curves some in the end. Obsessed with the tiny details, so you don't always see the big picture. Doesn't care if you have an opinion. Major God complex...
I just took Dr. Jones for summer session II. I was worried because I haven't had chemistry since 10th grade. Chem isnt easy but Dr. Jones made it interesting and went out of his way to help you get it. He'd stay after as long as you needed, gave lots of examples and practice tests that had questions setup the way his tests are. Awesome teacher
he isnt a tough grader. If you got the answer wrong its wrong. Not a small curve, a huge one - I got my A b/c of it. Great teacher. CHM is a hard subject and he does a great job trying to make it interesting. I am not a chm major nor have a science background. He doesn't use powerpoint which is awesome b/c it slows the pace down. Uses chalkboard
Homework is done on Mastering Chemistry online. Grading system is more than fair. Labs are geared towards learning and are very helpful. Periodic short quizzes. Funny, enthusiastic teacher who's easy for anyone to get along with.
I just loved him. I have taken a lot of chem classes in my day and he is one of the best teachers I have had!
Bart is a pretty bad/boring teacher. What i learned about chemistry came from the lab not the lecture. He also made students buy an electronic clicker for $50 which we never used. Thanks Bart you're butt
Good teacher. Tough subject, chemistry used to be my best in high school, but it was difficult to even reach the 'B' scale. Not advisable to take this course for summer, even if you are repeating it. He is fun and helpful
Very difficult subject. It's sometimes hard to understand what he's talking about because he's used to teaching higher level courses. He is amazingly sweet, but is aggravated/ distracted by minor things (people coming in, leaving, food, chairs squeaking, yawning, etc.) Honestly it has been my least favorite class of all time.
Extremely difficult. Worst class ever. Don't take him if you expect to do well. He had our SI instructor fired.
He is a great teacher that really focuses on making sure his students understand the material. He holds special SI sessions that he leads, which definitely help before a test. The tests and quizzes will be hard without studying, but are definitely not too hard to do well on.
Does not really "teach" the subject matter. He expects you to learn everything through SI sessions, and on your own. I would not recommend to fellow students!
This class sparked an intrest for me in chemistry. He is highly accomidating for any needs a student has. He is goofy and fun and always has an interesting "demo" to do in front of the class. He has review sessions before the test and is readly avalable for help any student needs
It's his way or the highway. On a personal level, he's easy to talk to but in the classroom, he's all business. He gives questions on exams that everyone in the class will get wrong, so he likes to challenge/trick!It's frustrating. He's slightly narcissistic... You can find a reference and show him why answer could be right, he'll say it's wrong.
Dr. Jones was an awesome professor! He really helped me understand chemistry and broke everything down step by step, which was something I needed since high school chemistry was about 13 years ago! His quizzes were a little lengthy and somewhat confusing at times, BUT they prepare you for his exams! I suggest sitting in front to avoid distractions.
Dr. Jones is an awesome teacher. Chemistry is a hard subject so of course you have to try but he is willing to give you plenty of help. Big plus he writes on the chalkboard not power points so it gives time to absorb the material. Old school teacher best one in the Wilmington chem depatrment
he is a great teacher, it's a hard subject but he makes it easier to understand. He's very approachable and friendly and really puts in extra effort to make sure his students learn the material. Definitely recommend him!
Dr. Jones is an awesome guy, but he doesn't take any texting in his lecture. He explains things pretty well, writes on the board, and loves for students to ask questions. He just puts off a good vibe and makes chem 101 a little easier.
I loved chemistry in high school and had an awesome teacher. I was excited to take this course but ended up sorely disappointed in Jones' teaching. He didn't give enough examples and the textbook was not really concise either. This was more difficult than calculus, statistics and even a 300 level Spanish course. Lab was the only good part.
He's a really good teacher in general but he just isn't used to first level chemistry. He makes things more difficult than they need to be and teaches every subject matter in the most difficult manner possible
Dr. Jones is way too smart to be teaching chem 101. He doesn't make the material simple at all, sometimes he will spend a lot of time teaching something beyond our level that won't be on the exam and 5 minutes teaching something that will. The exams are rough. He is very willing to help students outside of class but his class is very hard.
Very unorganized and all over the place. He is a very intelligent man but can't dumb himself down to teach 101. If you had good high school chemistry or like teaching yourself then go for it. SI sessions were more helpful than class. We were always behind the other classes. Its a tough subject that I would've liked to have more organized notes for.
The 3 exams are impossible to do well on. For all of the exams practically a third of the information was not even taught, the other chem 101 classes were constantly 2 chapters ahead of us! The lectures are awful, he confuses the heck out of you. Doesn't answer questions, and his quizzes are insane 12 the class fails them every other week.
He does not make ANYTHING easy to understand. Literally teaches organic chemistry in general chem. Extremely sarcastic and full of himself. Be prepared for him to mock you if you ask a question in class.
Jones is very scatterbrained. I hate rating him negatively, because I do think he's a wonderful person and probably excellent for a higher level Chemistry course but he didn't need to teach 101. His quizzes were impossible to pass, and our class had the lowest test average for every exam and no one ever knows what he's talking about. T
Dr. Jones would be an excellent upper level professor, but he is a terrible Chem 101 professor. He assumes the students already know everything, and therefore did not teach. Homework is hard, his quizzes are designed for the students to fail, and we were always behind. The class before the test was always a cram session because we were so behind.
Dr. Jones knows his stuff. A lot of times he talks about his "higher level" classes during gen chem and it makes you more confused. If you go to him for help, he will help you. He is very strict about texting, eating & talking in class. Overall he wouldn't be my first choice teacher but you can make it work.
Jones is a really nice guy, and tries to make his lectures interesting but they are extremely boring, and he tends to go off on tangents and talk about something completely different from the class topic. However, he teaches the material well if you pay attention and go to his lectures, and he grades on a curve.
Forced to take him for my nursing learning community. He teaches the material as if you already know it, quizzes were impossible to pass, way to much unhelpful homework, and he's mean. I came to him for help, and ended up with a D in his class. Never posts grades on BB & When i emailed and said i thought i did better than a D, he mocked me!
Professor Jones is a great guy. Fun, tells corny jokes, sarcastic. Horrible professor.. let me tell you.. His quizzes are IMPOSSIBLE, he gets very off-topic and distracted in class, he'll lecture about material that isn't relevant, & he makes rude comments about students' intelligence. Do NOT go to class because you won't learn. Study like hell.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Often lectures about organic chemistry and confuses everyone. He was never available during office hours. His grading for quizzes are ridiculous .
If you're considering taking him for a basic CHM course-don't. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Lectures are long, unclear, and mostly about Organic Chemistry. This was the hardest course I've taken at UNCW and I used all of my resources to try and learn by myself. He's probably a great higher level teacher, but for basic chem, not helpful.
Professor Jones is a nice, smart man. However, I would not recommend taking chem 101 with him unless you already know a lot of the material from high school. The quizzes were basically impossible, and unless you already know the basics of chemistry, you will most likely struggle in this class. I'm sure he is great in 300 level classes, but not 101.
He's a brilliant professor, but he forgets to dumb things down for chem 101 students, refferencing organic chem for a lot of our information. he is hard to talk to, but he will "help" you. DO NOT SKIP CLASS. YOU WILL NOT PASS.
DONT BE FOOLED. He seems scary in class but hes SO sweet if u go to his office hours. Will help you as much as he can! Tests are IDENTICAL to practice exams just numbers switched. The material is like chm 102 but on steroids. Very boring stuff. 4 exams and you get to replace one with the final. VERY HRASH grader! Make sure you know your SIG DIGS!!
Dr. Jones is probably the worst chemistry professor I have ever had. I do not recommend him as a teacher. He gives in-class quizzes and teaches strictly on the chalkboard with little to no visuals. He also talks more about chemistry 102 and his grad students than actually being helpful to his current chemistry class and helping them pass the class.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. Too smart to teach a general chemistry class. Chemistry is difficult material to learn, so you need a good professor to teach it. Don't take him for chem101
Dr. Jones was such a wonderful human being and a great professor. If you needed help he won't hesitate and wants questions to be asked. He tries to learn the names of the students despite the large classes. He writes everything on the chalkboard which was nice especially for examples. I would take him again.
If you are taking another CHM course take Dr. Jones! He teaches to aim students toward what they will see in the future. Lectures got confusing for some of my classmates but flowed logically for me. He encourages visiting his office hours and he is very helpful if you go! The quizzes are the biggest challenge in his class.
Dr. Jones is a cool person but his class definitely isn't easy. Lectures can get confusing because he likes to go off on tangents or talk about a concept that is in Chem 102. Going to office hours is really helpful and he's super nice. The quizzes are probably the hardest part of the class.
His quizzes were very hard but out of my friend group that had different chem professors, he by far explained everything fully so that I could help people in other chem classes. I very much enjoyed his lectures and they all tied in together. There are not many grades so not studying for tests and quizzes will hurt you.
Dr Jones was a seemingly nice man. He had a moderate ability to convey the material. Jones says he reads his reviews and all they talk about how he gets off subject.... well that is what Dr Jones does and it hurts the learning of students. Jones' quizes are much more difficult than the exams.
Dr. Jones is a nice man who is very passionate about chemistry. His quizzes are difficult but if you literally study the notes you will make a good grade on them. Pay attention in class because every example he does is important. Do the homework online because it helps prepare for the tests. Study and put forth the effort and you will do well!
Dr. Jones was my lab instructor for both Inorganic and Instrumental Analysis (probably the two most arduous labs that a CHM major will experience). If you're ready to learn (drink a coffee, grab a snack beforehand, etc.) and take good notes during lab, you will not get a good grade, but fully understand the content. Xmas party was a plus!
Dr. Jones is a tough professor, but it's for your own good. Especially if you plan on going into chemistry. If you take the class seriously, it will benefit you. Dr. Jones wants his students to succeed in whatever field they end up pursuing. Attendance is not taken, but don't skip class. He notices who doesn't come and will grade accordingly.
Dr. Jones is a great professor. He is always willing to help and even provided after class help sessions before the tests and the final. Curves are fair (more than fair in some cases), and grading is fair. He gives plenty of opportunities to improve your grade and makes sure that students make "a C or better" if they try.
I would definitely recommend Dr. Jones to anyone who really wants to learn Chemistry. He is VERY smart and willing to work with you. If you are willing to study, you will pass because there are LOTS of opportunities to improve your grade and all tests are curved. Tells great horrible jokes and lectures with chalk board. Don't use phone in class.
Dr. Jones is a great professor. He truly cares about his students and gives you so many opportunities to improve your grade. Also, he hosts many extra-help sessions near exams that help so much. You have to work for an A but if you show up to class and do the HW, you should do great in CHM 101.
Dr. Jones is a great CHM 101 teacher. He has a really fun personality and makes a lot of lame puns. He teaches the material really well and is usually available after class for questions. The tests are hard but if you go to lecture and take good notes, they're not too bad.
Bart Jones is a nice man with great puns, but he sucks at teaching a general chemistry class. He gets off topic a lot and loves talking about things that do not matter in the actual lesson. He treats everyone like they already know what is going on. Go to SI, it will be the only way you will actually understand what is going on.
Dr. Jones was a great professor. For having a class over 100 he really handled it well and made sure not to move on until everyone was on the same page. He strongly encourages going to his office hours and getting extra help if you need it. The quizzes are the toughest part of the course but it prepares you for the exams.
I was really concerned about the quality of my professor for this class b/c I did so poorly in chemistry in high school. Dr. Jones was just what I needed. At first I was a little caught off guard b/c he doesn't use powerpoint but he is an awesome lecturer and super funny! Really caring guy who will respect you if you respect him
Dr. Jones does a great job in explaining the material and really helped me understand Chemistry (haven't taken chemistry in 6 years). He always reserves time after class to go over anything that you need help with and always reviews exam and quiz material. The homework on the website is a little confusing but he will go over that with you too.
Dr. Jones is a very nice man who is always willing to help after class or during office hours. He does have good puns to break up the lecture but he is lecture heavy. Highly recommend SI. Go to SI and you'll get an A (or B). Tests are MC and curved, quizzes are more difficult but you have buffer grades from homework and labs.
Boring lectures but how interesting can chem be. Tries to make jokes and help. However, Schedules a quiz the night before thanksgiving break and absolutely refuses to give it early. Very strict with policy and has no compassion towards you having to choose between family and grades.
Dr. Jones is a great professor. He makes lectures interesting by making jokes and real world connections. He isn't very good at posting things online or communication over email. Quant was graded solely on exams, the final can replace your lowest exam grade and the exams look very similar to the practice exams.
Jones does his best to keep the class engaged. CHM 101 is a required class for a lot of people with no interest in Chemistry. Because of that a lot of the class found it difficult. However, the material is what makes it hard not the professor. All CHM 101 sections take the same tests so the only thing that sets Jones apart is his tough quizzes.
Dr. Jones knows what the information that he covers, but is not good at teaching it. Whenever you try to ask him questions or answer one of his questions incorrectly he makes you feel dumb. Whenever he's explaining anything he assumes everyone knows everything he's talking about. I would not take this professor unless you already know the material.
He is a TERRIBLE professor. He is so smart and knows so much about chemistry that he does not understand that his students have no idea what he is talking about. He often also goes off topic and just rambles. You will not learn anything in this class. I know multiple people who had him as a professor and ended up going to a different profs lecture
Notes online did not work so you have to be in class to get them. He did not believe students saying they couldn't open them. The week before exams he sent out an email notifying the class he would not be attempting to put in grades until three days before the test. He was unreachable after that, and day of I had no idea what my grade would be.
Don't waste your time doing his practice exams, they will only confuse you more. Asking him questions is fun if you like being belittled. Enjoy being tested on topics that were briefly mentioned in class (and not given any written notes on)? What about studying EVERY set of notes and still failing? If you answered yes, he's the professor for you!
In all honesty, Jones is a really good teacher but not suitable for 101. He knows too much to be teaching an introductory course. He seems to describe things a lot harder than they are. It's sad because he really is sweet and passionate about what he teaches. But, if you don't have a good foundation of chem, you're going to struggle in his class.
Horrible experience , reads off slides and expects you to know majority of what he is teaching. Grades were due December 16th for fall semester and is still putting in grades on the 18th. Doesnt put any grades in all semester.
Dr. Jones was an excellent professor. Practice tests are exactly like the actual tests and he is very clear on what you're expected to know. There are no curves on the tests, but the final is curved. He appreciates participation and does not tolerate food/drink/distractions. Really friendly and strongly encourages outside research.
Dr. Jones is great at explaining chemistry to where you can understand. There are labs every week. The homework is super helpful, thats where all my confusion was cleared up. The tests are difficult so you really have to study for this class.
Tends to just read the powerpoints.
For the Online Class, as long as you can follow up with the lecutre you should be fine. Further chapters are based on previous ones, so make sure you understand everything and don't get behind! He connects chemistry with the real world, he is very patient and will answer every question. Five 21 question exams with Respondus and online homework.
Quantitative analysis is a difficult class, but Dr. Jones was very straightforward about the material and what would be on the exams. 5 exams and there is a curve on the final (the 5th exam). DO THE HOMEWORK. Its pretty impossible to do well if you dont. Hes super approachable and will notice you coming/not coming to class.
Dr. Jones is very intelligent and quick and expects you to be the same. His teaching was difficult to get used to, but by the end of the semester it wasnt bad. Tests were pretty hard, but if you understand the examples in class you should be okay.
I was so sick back in October. I was hospitalized for 2 months with heart and lung issues. My parents, my academic advisor and the dean of academics all emailed him discussing my situation. He did not respond to ANYONE. He was so disrespectful and he is the reason I will never take another chem class at UNCW. Disgusting. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR.
The course was 4 test and a final, the final has a 10 point curve and replaces lowest test. He was a horrid professor who expected you to know what he teaches before he taught it. He does NOT curve any other exams or allows retest or extra credit, so if you fail two test then you will not do good in the class. Nice guy, just not nice grader.
Jones is a great professor. His course is basically set up with optionally lectures, Four test, Aleks homework often. Before exams, he gives practice test and goes over it. I go to most of his lectures because I find it helpful but I know some people just learn off of Aleks. He is really caring and will help explain stuff further if you need it.
optionally online class which was very nice. all the tests were hard but they had heavy curves which helps save my grades. The Aleks homework is very tedious and hard but i only learn from doing the homework and never go to class.
Dr. Jones is a great teacher and teaches chemistry in a way thats understandable and makes class enjoyable and fun even occasionally telling science jokes. However, chemistry is a hard class and it's important to go to class or watch the lectures and go to SI sessions. Overall, Dr.Jones was an amazing professor.
Ok teacher, alot of online work but teaching was unclear at times
5 exams for analytical chem. Dr. Jones is a very caring professor and will help you if you just ask. He holds reviews outside of class. DO the practice exams and practice sets on canvas, they are all I did to study for the actual exam. 10% curve of your actual grade for the final. there is no other curve or things to be graded besides the exam
If you haven't taken chemistry, your first 5 weeks will be tough. Dr. Jones is very educated and puts everything he knows into a lecture even if we don't need it for a test. At some points in the lecture, he does go quickly, but if you do the Aleks before he teaches it, you should catch on pretty well. Do the practice exams!
I hated the class but he was nice! However, when you ask a question you are expected to chat and work it out in front of the whole class.
If you want to fail a class, take this. absolutely awful.
Dr.Jones was a great professor. Just put a lot of pressure on the students and thought they new more material than they did. Everyone is at different levels when they take this course.
Dr. Jones is such a sweet old soul. Quant is definitely the hardest class I have ever taken, but he truly cares for his students and wants everyone to pass. He does not curve the exams, but has plenty of review sessions beforehand and is super willing to meet with you to answer any questions. He is super smart so it can be hard to follow sometimes
He is an amazing person outside of lecture, but sometimes he goes too fast and just uses examples from the notes without actually teaching the material. He makes students solve problems in front of the entire class if they have a question. Exams were extremely difficult, but it is chemistry.
Professor Jones is intense, but engaging if you put in the work. Practice exams are key, and using resources like unstuck ai can really help with study prep. Attendance is mandatory, so be ready to participate.
love him. he is very well educated and the cutest old man. tells a chemistry joke every class. even if you ask a stupid question, he wont act like it was. i emailed him twice and didn't get a response back (about exam grades). he doesn't round up tho sadly. he records and posts his lectures on canvas but is sometimes late to posting. has review day
Take him while he is still here. Plug and chug class. The first test is hard but after that it gets easier if you keep paying attention in class. For sure has some sort of ADHD. Would take me 2 hours to get through one question in his office hours but would have a great conversation. Anyone who rated Dr. Jones under a 4 just didn't do the work.
Go to his office hours. Lectures can be a little unclear, but I think that is in part due to lecture content being quite different from what you need to know for exams (100% of your grade). It's a hard class don't get discouraged by the first exam it will most certainly need to be your replacement. Very hard class, great guy!
Took CHM235 Fall 2022 & CHML435 Spring 2025 and got a B for both courses. Dr.Jones is a very nice guy, pleasant to talk to, and helpful. He is a slow grader with reports and is strict but will tell you exactly where you lost points in reports. Labs often ran late but he made sure to make labs engaging and entertaining.
Not a bad teacher, but he talks like a textbook reads. Furthermore, the only grades that actually matter in the class are exams which makes it 5x more difficult if you are a terrible test taker. wouldn't retake the class not because of the professor but the material combined with the way he teaches just doesn't click for me at all.
Jones has a lot of knowledge, and he is on the surface level a nice guy who is approachable. With that being said, he talks very formally about chemistry in a way that can be hard to understand. He will assume knowledge for an entry level course which is not something that should be done.
Doesn't care to read emails and give feedback
Jones is a really kind guy. He loves to tell chemistry jokes every class and will help you with any questions you have. His lectures are very unique, he gets side tracked and likes to include things that will not be on the exams. If you do Alekes before each lecture it will help you understand the material more.
