He is a really nice old (and i stress old) man who tries to help you. He is really hard of hearing and sometimes does not understand you, but the class is really easy and he's a really nice guy!

Easy teacher but very hard to follow. Very incredibly old but a nice guy. Tries to help but just doesnt do it very well. Easy easy class but you learn very minimal. Recommended if you are just looking for an easy A.

I have had Talbert 3 times and he is a great teacher. His lectures are intersting and he really puts alot of time into them. Take him if you love military history.

All of the tests are right from the notes, with multiple choice and matching. He is very informative and it clear to the point. He also gives out a study guide of all the terms on the test, if you know those terms well, you will get an A

This guy sucks. He is a **** and is rude. He takes a while semester to grade a 2 page paper then assigns another at the last week of class. Very unhelpful, rude, and doesn't talk about issues related to minorities.

Excellent Professor! Take him if you can. He is very interesting and extremely laid-back and willing to work with you. I took most of the tests outside of class in a private room b/c I missed them. He makes history relevent to today and keeps it fun.

Best military classes ever. i learned so much in one of his classes then all my years in general history classes. his civil war class is skewed towards the South being awesome but other then that take all the classes u can (except post civil war, that wasnt much fun)

Be ready to take lots of notes, but his tests are straight from his notes. I have had him 2 times and would take him again. A great man, he is the reason I am minoring in history now. Thanks Dr.T!!

This teacher is very very good. Take him. His tests are directly from the notes. For my final exam, he came 10 minutes late and said "well, the test is only 30 questions now." He's hilarious and very knowledgable.

Talbert is the man. He looks like a construction worker and has the personality of one too. He is very passionate about the subject matter and overall a pretty understanding guy. Recomended to anyone who wants a fun but educational class.

talbert is awesome... his classes are simple to follow, i took him for 101 and 102 cause he was so great. Just go to class and take notes- thas what the test material is (tests are MC), there is really no homework outside of class! Nicest guy on campus, he is really concerned about his students :)

Dont let the football pants and****star mustache fool you, Dr. Talbert is a professional history teacher who knows his stuff. Dont put your feet up on the desk in front of you and turn off your cell phone. He hates that. If you like Military History, talk to him outside class. I had a beer with him at Brew River once and he is TOTALLY different outside of class. In class he is pretty intense and outside of it he is very cool and laid back. If you play a sport he will like you.

Just don't EVER turn around and look at the clock. He's late a lot. Very understanding though. I accidently saved over part of our final exam the morning it was due and he gave me an extra day to rewrite it. He's very interested in the subject.

he makes it so interesting...although you do have to frivolously take notes to keep up! multiple choice on the tests is really hard though...so you have to take good notes and study everything...but you can tell he loves what hes teaching and i can just see him leading his calvary into battle if only he was born a few centures earlier! :) love him!

I had to take this class as a Gen Ed. and history is the worst ever basically. I did get an A and he seemed to like me, but hes definitely huge hick. Just write down everything he says and you should be fine. You also have to write 3 one page papers for him, but they aren't bad.. and his tests seldom have essays, so thats good!

Talbert is a very knowledgable teacher, one of salisbury's best. Not an easy A by any means, but he makes it clear in the beginning of the semester what he expects of you. Takes attendence occasionally, strict to syllabus, and grades hard. but you'll definitely learn a lot in this class. definitely recommend it for any history major

Being a freshman to SU, Dr. Talbert made my experience horrible. All he does is stnd up in frnt of the classroom & talks. I know that I dn't learn tht way. When he hands out study guides, 90% of the study guide was nt on the test. He covers too much on 1 test. Way 2 difficult. I will nvr tke ths guy again. Oh, & he always wears a white polo.

Very intelligent man, knows exactly what he expects of students. Tests are difficult, and reflect the chapters very well. I learned after the first test i needed to be more prepared for the tests. He doesn't like being interupted, so choose your words wisely.

i had him for history 101, and it was so hard! his powerpoints are vague, he hates when people text in class and will point you out and embarass you. attendance is mandatory (he takes roll when class starts). his tests are THE WORST...everything is scrunched together and no space in-between. i wouldn't recommend him. oh, and his papers are lame.

Dr. Talbert knows his stuff, but his lectures are boring. Tests are hard, so you need to take GOOD notes. Dont expect any graded work back for at least a month afterwards. Look like Dale Earnhardt, and always wears a white polo shirt (possibly the same one everyday). Nice enough, but I probably wouldn't take him again.

Professor Talbert is a really good teacher. I hated history before I went into the class but he kept my attention. Little work involved: 2 tests and 3 short papers (3 pages each). Make sure you listen to his directions and you'll be fine. Study guides help a lot on tests. If you do the work, you'll be fine. Its a good class if you don't want stress

I really enjoyed his class, just due to the topic. He is a difficult teacher...very pro-southern. Its sorta funny. Really good teacher though, knows what hes talking about. Tests are hard..we had alot of papers but htey werent too hard.

he babbles like the whole time. he basically talks just to hear himself talk. REALLY boring.. he's a huge fan of military history and is pretty strict. i would NOT recommend him because he kinda ruins your day... but you at least get to know what "frost giants" are..

Very straightforward professor. All the kids saying he's "sooooo hard" are silly little freshman that don't actually know what a college class is. 3-4 exams, 3 easy 3 page papers (they're summaries, guys). Just write everything he says down and you'll do fine. He also gives you a study guide of all the topics. Easy.

Talbert is a good teacher. He gives you all the information in an easy to understand way. His tests are formatted strangely but not difficult. Battle diagrams are cool; better than essays. Knows and likes the subject. Can be difficult to ask questions to, sometimes doesn't clearly answer them. Very straight forward teacher.

Talbert is strict and controlling. I did not like him at first, but he curves the tests A LOT and is a nice guy. If you don't mind writing a few short essays and you are good at studying, his class will give you an A or B easy.

You have to write down absolutely everything he says, but none of the information he talks about is on the tests. He tells you not to buy to text book, but you could definitely use it. 3 tests and a couple essays, which are dificult. Nice guy but I don't recommend him as a teacher

He is the reason I minored in history. I had him as a prof in 101 and took him for every history class I could. Civil War, Westward Movement, and Ancient Military Tactics are must take classes. You must copy him verbatim on notes, and STUDY. Papers are short but must be clear and concise. Great to have a beer with!! Read his book, it's great!

one of the best history professors i've had. if you write down whats on the slides he presents, and read over it/understand it, you'll ace the tests. puts most of everything he says into terms and ways you can understand and remember. kind of "rough around the edges" but great teacher. really knows his stuff.

He really goes into depth especially about battles, so that you understand it instead of just hearing it. Really good history teacher

I really enjoy his class. hes extremly helpful. i was in and out of the hospital for about a month and he would email me and say dont worry about anything. When i came back he went over some of the material for the test i missed and i got a B on it. Loves military history but it helps you visualize and relate to the topic.Strongly recommend him.

Dr. Talbert is very enthusiastic & does not take BS from anyone. You need to pay attention in class and read all given materials if you want to pass. The class is very interesting...plus he's not too bad to look at ;)

Dr. Talbert is probably one of the best professors at SU. Be prepared to work, but it's worth it. He almost makes me want to take history classes as my electives just so I can take his class again! His class flew by and I was never bored. I can't stress enough how good this man is at his job. I really recommend him to everything! You won't be sorry!

2nd best professor at Salisbury. Took him for 101 and 308. He teaches each class the same 3 tests and 3 papers. Very knowledgable about Civil War type history.I am minoring in history and am going to try and take him wherever possible. Must take detailed notes. No textbook is used at all

Dr.Talbert is an amazing professor!I got D's on two of my exams and I thought i was going to fail the class. However,I did real well on the papers.This class requires a lot of note taking!His exams are structured weird but you can manage!the papers are basically reading a book and summarizing. Its not too hard! take him!! I got a B in the end!

Very knowledgeable, but definitely places a huge emphasis on wars which I found to be boring. Lots of notes, laptop suggested, must study for tests, three short and easy summary essays. Takes attendance every class. Overall not bad, but not exciting.

This professor is awesome. He is so nice and actually works with his students to help them get good grades instead of trying to make things more difficult like other teachers often do. He gives TONS of extra credit on tests and papers were so easy I did them in under an hour and got A's on all of them. I highly recommend this teacher!

Glad I transferred to this class. NO HOMEWORK only has 3 papers each 3pgs long throughout the semester. The papers are easy based off of readings, just write the paper like youre a college student and youll get an A. He has 3 Tests the last one is NOT cumulative. He also gives tons of extra credit on the tests. GREAT TEACHER & class is interesting.

I had Dr. Talbert freshman year for 101. His class was extremely boring but he really knows the material and it isn't hard if you just show up and listen. The class is made up completely of 3 tests and 3 (3 page) papers. Although the topic was boring, I really like him and recommend taking him for any course.

His lectures are really boring but he knows what he's talking about. There are 3 tests and 3 papers. He gives a study guide before each test but if you study then you'll be fine. He also gives extra credit for each tests which is really helpful. His papers are really easy and he isn't a tough grader.

Dr. Talbert's course seemed as if it would be really difficult in the beginning, but it seemed to get easier as the semester went along. He gives three papers that are worth 10% of your grade each, grades them really lenient. Tests can be pretty hard, but he does give a study guide. Take good notes and it should be easy

Thought it would be a difficult class at the start of the semester, but ended up being pretty easy. The book reviews aren't terrible & Professor Talbert doesn't work against you. If you show up every day & try and are between a high B and an A he will give you the A. Doesn't swamp you with work & gives you a review sheet before tests. I'd take him!

Loved having him and would totally take him again if all his other classes weren't military history. Three exams and three papers. The papers are each three pages long and are easy A's. The tests are about normal but have tons of extra credit. Don't buy the main textbook but you need the two literature ones. I only read the ones for the essays.

Completely dull, sits in front of the class and reads off his laptop. He will tell you "no questions" if you raise your hand. Tests and complete clusters of words that make little sense, it takes longer to figure out what he is asking than to answer. He rambles and is completely disorganized. Grades incredibly harsh on the most minute details.

He sits in front of the class and has two laptops set up, one of which he reads everything off of (for his eyes only) the other which has about 3 words on it (for students to copy). Gets very off topic and is very boring. You pretty much have to read to know what's going on considering he is very hard to follow along with during class.

I hate professor Talbert's class. I do not recommend him unless you are seriously passionate about history. His lectures are so boring and he reads straight off of his own laptop that only he can see. He gives students minimal notes that don't help enough when studying for tests. Doesn't teach from the book. 3 ok-ish tests, 3 easy papers. beware.

I adore Dr. Talbert's class. He is by far one of the best speakers I have encountered, it's as if the lecture he gives each day he has practiced his entire life. He is pretty funny sometimes and you only have 3 papers and 3 tests. He gives you PLENTY of time to do the papers and if you study then you won't fail the test. He's a great professor.

Funny guy who is super nice and you can tell he's a teacher who wants to see you succeed, but I didn't do well in this class because 1. I'm not really interested in military stuff and he talks about that a lot 2. I can't memorize a whole map of unfamiliar and weird names and 3. Powerpoint/lecture doesn't really help prepare you for tests.

Dr. Talbert makes lectures so interesting and I enjoyed his class a lot. Don't buy the main textbook--only the 2 smaller ones. Exams are from lectures so take good notes and write everything down. There's 3 papers and 3 exams. Overall very easy class if you take good notes and pay attention, and write decent papers. I don't recommend skipping.

He's very passionate about history and tells interesting stories to help students understand. Only hw is the 3 essays that are 3 pages, they are easy A's, all you have to do is summarize and paraphrase a reading he assigns. Gives term study guide for tests which is very helpful. His powerpoints don't have many words, write what he says out loud.

Dr. Talbert is a great guy who loves history. The only problem I find with him is that he reads from his laptop without showing the students what he is reading. I find myself copying every word he says. This is frustrating. I would not take this class again although I did think he was a nice guy.

Class was a little boring at times. Lectures are long but he is clear and passionate about the subject. As long as you take good notes and follow his study guides, you'll do good on tests. Only 3 short papers and 3 tests. Gives ton of extra credit on tests to boost your grade. Pretty great teacher overall. Definitely recommend for an easy A or B.

He clearly loves history and is not afraid to show it through different rants that are somewhat relevant to the topic. Does not use myclasses, and will only show a few words on a power point however he explains those words in great detail. You have to pay attention and take good notes. Exam study guides are given as well.

I took History 101 with Dr. Talbert and it was great. At first I was skeptical because he's slightly intimidating, but after a few classes, I realized he's a really nice guy. There's only 3 exams and 3 papers and they aren't hard. He gives a study guide for exams and clear grading criteria for the papers. Overall, I'd totally recommend him!

Loved the class, unfortunately the tests are so difficult and he grades so toughly on the exams that it's hard to excel in his class. Person below me is correct in that he gives clear grading criteria, but they submitted that review before we got our first exam back, and those tests are very hard for a 101 class. Enjoyed the lecture, class was hard

Do not take this professor if you are not interested in history. I took it because I have to take a HIST101 and it was awful. his lectures are very hard to follow unless you already have a basic understanding o the subject. the papers are easy but the tests are very hard. his lecture slides only have about 3 words on them and do not prepare you.

Dr. Talbert is an amazing lecturer, tries his very best to keep things interesting. Grading is clear, 3 tests (70%) and 3, 3 page papers (30%). Tests can be really obscure, he picks random information so it is important to take detailed notes. All tests are straight from lecture, don't miss class. He bumped me up a point for an A. Great professor.

Exams are from lecture so take good notes, tests can be a little obscure so I write down everything he says. Don't skip class. He is understanding and let me turn in a paper late with no penalty. Class is fast paced but I definitely learned a lot. This was my 2nd class w/ Talbert and I will be taking more. He also tends to focus on military history

Professor Talbert can definitely be intimidating, but if you talk to him one-on-one, he's a nice guy. His tests are pretty hard, because he pulls random information from lecture, but it is not impossible to do well in his class if you study. Going to office hours for any questions about the papers or exams is super helpful. Awful powerpoints though

Only 3 grades (3 exams, 3 quizzes) so make sure you study. He is nice to talk to one-on-one. However, he did call out the special needs girl in my class more than once. Anyway, if you write down almost everything he says and go to all of the classes, you will do well in this course! He has a lot of knowledge, which makes class more interesting.

Talbert made me dislike history, he was completely politically biased. I felt disrespected as a student and young adult. I felt as though I was in a high school class rather than at college. Topics in class were mostly military based and nothing else. PowerPoints are awful and you have to buy 2 textbooks for 5 questions per test. Would not take.

Dr. Talbert is a great professor. He does his best to make his lectures as interesting as possible. His grading criteria is clear, 3 exams (70%) and 3 papers (3 pages, 30%). While he seems intimidating at first, he is easy to talk to one-on-one. He really helped me discover more passion for history. I would definitely take his class again!

Dr. Talberts class might seem scary at first, but its not so bad. The exams are tough, but he gives you a study guide with most of the info on it and the exams also usually have a huge curve on them. Theres 3 papers that are graded harshly so make sure you try your best on them! If you actually try in this class, its not hard to get an A.

Do not recommend. His lectures are basically him just rambling on. During the pandemic we were sent PowerPoints which made no sense, and the tests were very hard since we had no interaction with him after being sent home. Whenever I emailed him he wasn't helpful, and didn't offer any help or extra credit.

If you show up, pay attention, take notes, and study a bit, you have no reason not to get an A in his class. Dr. Talbert is incredibly knowledgeable, works with you if you have any difficulty with his assignments, and is a very reasonable grader. Gives plenty of extra credit.

Lays out everything that you have to do from day 1, and wants you to do well by giving you study guides for his tests! Also, even though hes a HISTORY professor, his papers arent bad, just make sure to use plenty of quotes and good formatting, if you want to do well on them. Not that many assignments you have to do overall as well. (6 or 7 total)

Dr. Talbert is a cool, funny guy but, in my opinion, not the greatest professor. His PowerPoints are very limited in text and it's not very clear what information should be absorbed during them. For a world civilization class, it is extremely Eurocentric, and the assignments are very vague in directions. The class isn't even on MyClasses.

Dr. Talbert gives super speedy lectures where most of the content required is spoken not put on PowerPoint. If you pay attention, you will be able to take very good notes because he teaches chronologically. He also gives a pretty long warning before tests and papers and gives out study guides.

I did take the winter class so this may differ from inperson. Dr. Talbert lectures using PowerPoint but his PowerPoints have very little information on them. It is difficult to understand what you are supposed to be taking notes. Grades Essays like a 300-level English class. And crams questions in his exams and essays to do in little time

If you listen to him and his instructions for papers he will give you an A, given you study his study guides. As long as you study and be respectful he will help you out. He was the only "prerec" professor to help me out. 15/10 recommend. Love this man.

I simply love Dr. Talbert. I had him last semester for 101 and I took him for 102 as well this semester. One of my favorite professors ever. If you pay attention and show an effort he'll appreciate you. Fairly forgiving on his essay grades but the only grades are 3 papers and 3 exams. He doesn't put anything online and missing class will hurt you.

Literally all assignments, exams, and grading structures are on the syllabus (3 exams and 3 papers). Papers are straightforward as long as you understand the material and, meet the criteria stated in the syllabus. All topics for the test will be provided in the study guide, shouldn't be any trouble if you study and read. Being in class really helps

AS long as you can follow directions, not be lazy, and not be soft you will do well. He is a great teacher and extremely intelligent, he taught me how to write essays better on top of history. Dr. T is a lecture heavy, funny professor that does a great job of relating history to current events/life skills. This class is 3 tests and 3 papers, all of which he adequately prepares you for. Gives great study guides and clear instructions for papers. He uses powerpoints, but they just have pictures, so be ready to take notes.

Attend lecture and study a ton (especially the maps) for tests and you'll be fine. HE DOES NOT USE CANVAS!! But you can ask him about you grade. Also some of the things on the tests he doesn't cover in lecture and they're in the readings but I got by just fine only doing the readings we had to write papers on.

I broke my leg in the middle of the semester that I took his class which made it very difficult for me to attend his classes but he was super helpful and understanding and gave me extensions when I needed it. His lectures were quite interesting and he was a fair grader. Great guy.

Get ready for half of each class to be taken up by him "lecturing" (and i don't mean lectures on the subject) about how you "better get ready for the real world" even though this man has clearly been disconnected from the real world for YEARS. Doesn't use MyClasses, only grades by 3 tests and 3 assignments. 101 is supposed to be world civ but 99 percent was spent on greece/rome, disappointing (no china, india, americas, etc). Uses language in class that made female students and students from marginalized backgrounds visibly uncomfortable. Easy grader if you study. Good study guides.

I went to the first class and dropped it immediately afterwards because of him. He is the most insufferable and arrogant man I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing. Insanely condescending. Maybe he gets better but the first impression I got was one of THE WORST ever. Good luck if you have to deal with him, I'll send up a prayer for you.

Highlights from his syllabus: • Automatic withdrawal if you leave class four times (for bathroom or any reason) • Automatic withdrawal from class if you talk during lecture • -5 points and possible expulsion if cell phone is visible • -10% final grade if you use phone during class. He will call you out if you are on your phone during lecture. This makes sense so its hard to complain. His class is almost completely lecture, though he makes it interesting. There are 3 papers + 3 tests. The tests are mostly matching and multiple choice. He grades his papers exactly as the rubric says, so stick to the instructions he gives out.

Dr. Talbert is a very good professor. He's extremely strict about devices and will call you out during class if he sees you so much as glance at one. However, his lectures actually kept me engaged as someone who doesn't love history and there's only 3 papers and 3 exams. He's very strict about the paper rubric, so follow the instructions EXACTLY!

Dr. Talbert knows his stuff. You'll take lots of notes, but his lectures are clear. The challenge is memorizing your notes for the 3 exams, but he curves them heavily, which is amazing. There are 3 papers—straightforward if you follow the instructions. He's strict, but fair. Do the work, stay organized, and you'll have no trouble getting an easy A.

He's a great professor and clearly loves history. I went to high school and college outside the U.S., so I'm used to strict and mean professors, but his attitude is too harsh for students here. He yells in class, doesn't allow bathroom breaks, and has unrealistic syllabus rules. Good teaching, but mean to students.

His language was exceedingly harsh towards students, and he was yelling far too often. He was terrible at distinguishing information in lectures, so it felt like I was scrambling to get everything down with no clue what was actually important. The environment was too hostile for me to justify pushing through. Others might have a better experience.

This class was pretty good. Very lecture heavy but they are interesting and not hard to sit through. However, class is primarily euro-centric. Essays are straightforward. Exams can be hard but he is forgiving. Dr. Talbert can come off as harsh at times, but he is a nice guy overall if you take the class seriously. Do not use your phone in class.
