Professor Welling is a great instructor. He is very laid back and easy going. He is really friendly and treats students like they are actual people. I would recommend his class to anyone. He is not extremely hard but his course material is interesting and fun to read. I got a B+ in his class.
Good class...took it during the summer so it was alot of books to read in a short amount of time. We watched lots of movies and didn't have any tests; not even a final..it was answer questions in class he gave you before hand verbally. I got a B in the class.
Enjoyed his class and his reading selections. he is willing to take time out of his schedule to help students. Read and be prepared to discuss and the class won't be so boring. Papers submitted via email returned packed with suggestions and ideas for improvement. Great!
Dr. Welling is a very good teacher. He is some what of a younger professor and treats students like friends rather than students. He is very helpful if you have questions. Responds to email very quickly and is very insightful. We had 2 papers and the class was fairly easy. I RECOMMEND HIM!!!!!!
This guy is pretty cool. Except for the theme of his lit class which was animals.. it was just a big let bash people who eat meat class for a while. Not by the teacher but by the students. very easy class, lots of reading, 2 papers, couple quizes and a presentation.. easy a
I love this professor. He's awesome. He's such a quality professor. He treats you with a lot of respect even when you say something stupid. Highly recommended.
Welling is a great professor. His class is so easy. Only three papers, a presentation, and a couple of very easy quizes. You hardly even have to read, and its a lit. class! He always extends deadlines on papers, so you end up with an extra month to work on them. Highly recommended, easy A.
3 papers, around 5 quizzes, and 5 discussion board postings. Scatterbrained. This semester it took him a while to grade ONE essay because of the extension, so there's a buttload of papers due towards the last few weeks. Doesn't really update BlackBoard. But the quizzes are insanely easy, even if you don't read the text. Just pay attention in class.
Wonderful man and teacher! I would take any class he offered. His class is relatively easy if you keep up and make an effort. You should read the books he assigns...that's why you take the class, not for an easy A.
For fear of digressing into cliché, nonetheless, what you can get out of Dr. Welling's classes is precisely proportional to what you're willing to and do put into them. His classes are open arenas for constructive dialogue to take place, so if you're not participating in class or out, then you're only cheating yourself in the process.
I would recommend taking this class if you are not an English major. He is completely spacey. There were 5 quizzes, 10 worksheets, 2 papers, 1 presentation, and a few online postings. It is the end of the semester and he still hasn't graded our first paper! But, he gave everyone an A because of it. I never even opened a single book! Very laid back!
take him. hes helpful. he understands when you have problems outsdie of class. and he will bend ovewr backwards to help you out. just respect him and he will respect you. i have had him twice and hes great
I loved this guy. The books were great, discussions were open and could go in any direction, he never grades anything so you are almost guarenteed an A, and he is encouraging. However he does count attendence. I loved his lectures and his knowledge of the authors was incredible. Not only that but he is amazing to talk to. I highly recommend him!
Not clear, hardly lectured just discussion, discussion, discussion.Never communicated with students. Like two weeks later you might get a reply back.Didn't like him. Take Willey. I heard he is so much better worth your time and money.
Dr. Welling is a very good professor who truly cares about his students, his life and his family and this shines throughout his work. No one is perfect but he does his best, always and is a friendly, honest and kind person who is always willing to give the benefit of the doubt to students. He also makes himself and his resources available. A+++
This is a great class. He is really into animals and it made for an interesting semester. You learn alot about different issues and get a refresher on writing and analysis. He is a great professor and is willing to work with you to make sure everything goes smoothly. He is always available to help and has the BEST resources available. A++++++++++++
Great teacher. Just participate in the discussions and read.
Welling is awesome..very knowedgable.especially of Faulkner. If you want an easy grade..take him..if you want feedback on your work...don't. He gives everyone A's even if your papers are BS.
Dr. Welling is awesome! Always helpful especially one on one. Easy papers and even easier quizzes. Really passionate about the subject and good teacher. Doesn't like to lecture so a lot of student presentations. It's a relaxing class.
Such a great guy and teacher! He really does care about what he is teacher and care about his students! He wants to make a difference. He is really easy......but he does a great job teaching and opens your mind up to so many new ideas. A wonderful teacher!
Well he is a nice guy but I didn't learn ONE thing. I pretty much paid for an A. If your lazy and want an easy A take this class. If your here to learn how to write...this isn't the class for you!
Welling is awesome! I loved his class. He is really nice and cares about his students. He is a little bit nerdy, but it is endearing. No wrong answers. Encourages you to think for yourself. Mostly class discussion, simples quizzes, papers, and a presentation at the end. I learned a lot, but it wasn't too stressful. I really enjoyed this class.
Professor Welling is a great, intelligent guy. He is pretty much an easy grader and is respectful of all students. His faults as a teacher are: 1) He is highly disorganized 2) he talks too fast. He is a super nice and kind teacher who cares!!
Second time I have taken Dr. Welling, this time for my senior Literature seminar...he is a great English professor who keeps up to date on his field and works very hard to do so. It is true he does not lecture as much as some professors, because he wants the class to discuss things. He is always helpful and will make time if you ask for help :)
Dr. Welling is not only a great teacher but so nice and helpful. He doesn't view his students as second rate citizens or inferior to him. He seems to care a lot that his students get the most from his class. No matter how busy he is he'll answer a question just knock on his door. And he grades easy. What more could you ask for?
i really wish more professors were like welling. his laugh is hilarious!
Good class to take if you want an easy A. Awful if you want to learn anything or be interested in the topic. We didn't get back our first papers until the end of the semester, he never had a lecture prepared and generally seemed not to care about the class at all. Nice guy, not so great teacher.
If you want an easy A take him. He is not the best teacher but possible the most caring teacher ever. He loves his job and his students very very nice guy. He laughs at everything.
loves what he does. All over the place though, kinda crazy, but in a good way. makes things interesting and fun!
As always, an excellent professor who cares about his students, respects them and is most helpful. Sometimes his life gets hectic. But the people on here who say negative things about that simply have not taken the time to get to know him. He is truly a knowledgeable and helpful professor, a model for self-accountability, and a respectful man.
Professor Welling is very nice and helpful. Attendance is mandatory. He made us do 3 short verbal responses (instead of papers), a research project, a research paper and about 5 quizzes. Very understanding and knowledgable about almost everything literature. Great professor if you don't mind the oral presentations.
He is a very nice guy. You can't not enjoy his presence. He helps to facilitate conversation and is extremely respectful of all different opinions. He chooses great course topics and will give you leeway if you need it. I definitely recommend him!!
He's adorable. Jokes about everything, seems like he's younger than his students. I didn't really learn that much from his assignments per say, (did we even have any?) but the texts he assigns were very interesting at least.
Great teacher. You will have to stand up and give oral presentations a lot though. Not a lot of in class work, and only 3 or 4 short papers to write. Recommended!
I love Professor Welling, the class itself was all discussion, but he is extremely helpful, and will work with you on assignments.
Professor Welling is probably my favorite professor, he is so interesting, and is very knowledgable in a wide variety of subjects. He is one of the most understanding people aside from being a professor, and is empathetic towards a multitude of ethnicities and people. I would recommend to anyone who wants to evolve as a person to take his class.
He's nice and understandable. Don't bother sending an email - he doesn't respond very promptly.
Beware. Was so excited about class but then class started.Have one big paper due but directions are unclear.Have 1 smaller paper and two responses based on reading, but he puts reading off so cannot present on day you are supposed to.
Nice guy with very interesting discussions, but he is extremely unorganized. Prepare for many syllabus changes. Due dates get pushed back a lot which sounds good at the time, but end up causing more harm than good. Again not a bad guy, but he is just too unorganized in my taste.
Dr. Welling is a good guy, but as others have said, incredibly unorganized, which is frustrating to those of us who have completed our assignments on time, only to have him give the rest of the class an extra week or more to be done. Attendance is mandatory, but if you have to miss class you won't miss too much.
He's a nice guy, but I'm sorry to say he's not a good teacher. We sit in class (when some of us even show up) and literally do nothing. It's the end of the semester, we've still got no syllabus, and have only had ONE assignment that he still has not helped us with. If possible, I'd avoid taking his class (if you want to LEARN).
He is knowledgeble about eco-criticism and American Lit, but he has a thuggish attitude, telling me I should "go away" and I should "drop it." SO not a good teacher. Grades fairly, but you have to do all the work. He doesn't facilitate much. Almost like doing an independent study.
He did not tell us what our grades were, and I ended up finding out mine when I got my final grade on my transcript. I felt very unprepared.
nice guy, who happens toknow a lot about eco-criticism and environmental topics. Unfortunately, this meant that he spent more time talking about that class than he did about ours. VERY unorganized to the point of sheer frustration. Obviously cannot keep up with his own demands of the class. Would not reccommend unless you like wasting your time.
Bart's only downfall is how disorganized he is - students have to stay on top of him when it comes to things like grading and email. If you can get past this, however, Bart is marvelous. He is extremely intelligent and always willing to work with students who need extra help. His attractiveness makes up for his disorganization ;)
Took Welling for American fiction. I like him as a person - he is very kind, and very passionate and knowledgeable about his field. However, he seems to get lost a lot, and doesn't really provide a lot of direction with your papers. One big essay is split into 3 or 4 parts in an attempt to make it easier on you. He is constantly pushing dates back and I never got any grades back. He's a good guy, but I'll avoid if possible because I didnt learn anything helpful.
An excellent professor! He's like a little boy trapped in a man's body, he's so sweet. And he's definitely an expert in his field. Class was interesting and always keeps you thinking. Great class on important environmental issues. Everyone should take this class!!!
Mr. Welling's class is very boring, and he is very hard to engage with, usually having difficulty getting the class going. I learned nothing. As a person, he is very kind and sweet, as a teacher, he doesn't do much.
I really liked Professor Welling. He is very approachable and kind. He can have a hard time getting people to participate, but if you participate, others typically join in. Very open minded and encouraging. You can miss three classes. If you are absent you can attend the same class if he teaches it at a different time. I suggest taking him.
I had Professor Welling for American Fiction. While he was a nice guy that obviously knew the material he was teaching, he frequently got sidetracked and discussed the environment and cats. He also required us to attend films about non-class subjects, and lost track of deadlines.
If you're looking for an easy A, take him. He is very confusing as to what he wants and doesn't really care about it. He's an easy grader. He teaches from beginning to end. No "gadgets" or he'll take points off at the end of semester.
I adore him!! He is super sweet (and cute) and incredibly intelligent. He knows everything about his field. It's amazing. If you need help from him with anything, don't talk to him in person. Email him and he will give you a very clear and concise response! He is scatterbrained but it doesn't matter. His personality and enthusiasm make up for it!
Professor Welling is awesome. He is kind, approachable, and extremely knowledgeable as a person and as an instructor. He is a critical thinker who thinks as he speaks. He ponders with others who want to think critically about the numerous possibilities regarding world issues rather than deeming every theory as truth. He cares about what YOU think.
Prof Welling is awesome. Kind and intelligent, he truly cares about students and their education. He does not try to push his opinions off on you, takes interest in your own critical thinking process, but also offers helpful insight. Syllabus can be intimidating but is not as bad as it looks. Take him!!!
I would not recommend taking this class with Welling. He is a very sweet man but is VERY unorganized. I never received any of my papers back. He assigned more than he could handle/grade. I asked him at least twice a week about my papers and my grade and he would never get back with me. I found out my grade after the semester on my transcript.
Very nice man, and funny, but disorganized. He frequently pushes due dates back which may seem good but really is not. He takes a long time to grade things/return them to you, so you're often wondering what your grade is in class. Somewhat unclear on what he wants out of assignments; I often asked for clarification. He is willing to help, though.
I picked him because everyone on here said he was easy and that was what I needed after my last English teacher, but his disorganization is so frustrating and inconvenient that it makes it less easy. He says attendance is mandatory, but he makes it pointless to go. And he's just an awkward speaker, you wouldn't realize he's been teaching for years.
WORST teacher Ive ever had. If you are a good writer take his class. But if you're an engineering major like me and you need to know if you passed for your gen eds you wont find out until about 2 weeks later. beware of the welling my friends.
A very humorous and fun professor. Covers interesting topics (such as film and film techniques towards the end) and makes the class enjoyable. Lots of writing but extended most deadlines and got rid of more than half the assigned papers. Great professor but seemed very busy, maybe too busy for all he assigned.
Extremely nice man. However, he is never up to date with grades. A week left in this semester and I only have 2 grades in. Pushes back due dates which seems good at first, but becomes very annoying because you are not sure what you need to do. Very nice man though, do not take him if you're an English major
OMG took him and I extremely confused the entire semester. I showed up simply for attendance but rarely stayed. He did not grade a darn thing. I'm so mad I would take him if I was lazy and wanted a grade thrown at me. I hardly ever knew what was going on. He talks way over your hear. I just overall did not like him as a professor
The only grades we received were whatever quiz we took online that Blackboard automatically grades. He didn't teach anything that was on quizzes. He also took forever to post a final, we called the school, then the exam had no questions so it couldn't be taken. I'm so disappointed in the neglect he showed the class. Everything else came before us.
He is not a bad guy but a bad teacher. He teaches at UNF and FSCJ and I am not sure if he is over whelmed or not but my semester has ended and I STILL don't have a grade! the lectures are pointless and covers nothing on the final. He's a nice guy but his class was a joke really.
He does not give you many grades back, so it is hard to know how you are doing. He also cancels some assignments, but it works out in your favor. He will give you detailed feedback on assignments BEFORE they are submitted though, and he allows all ideas to be heard and respected - even unpopular ones. If you don't need to get back grades, take him.
Nice guy who seems very mellow and neutral in class, but seems to love making all of his tests very political. His ability to convey understandable information is severely limited. Very slow with grading. He seems a bit passive aggressive when giving you his tests, that are irritatingly political.
Dr. Welling is fantastic! I have taken him again and again because he is just wonderful. Extremely nice and understanding, he genuinely cares for his students and is passionate about the material he teaches! Go to class, talk, do your assignments (which are few and far between) and just enjoy. Indulge him. He truly loves what he does.
I had Dr. Welling as my ENC1101 professor this past semester at FSCJ- Deerwood. Overall he's a good professor and knows his material but if you're a person who needs grades back quickly I'd save yourself the stress as he didn't submit any grades until the final day grades were due. If you do your homework and participate in class it's an easy 'A'.
Nice guy, boring professor. Doesn't put in grades until the last second, which is rude. Accepts late work.
This Professor is by far the most unorganized and unclear professor I have ever had. He takes forever to grade short paper assignments and the quizzes he gives include questions about topics that were not talked about in class. Don't expect any of your grades anytime soon. He also requires a 7-8 page research paper that he tells you nothing about.
Made the mistake of taking Welling for two classes at the same time. Never again. Yes, he knows what he's talking about, he's passionate, he wants to help... but he doesn't know how to engage you in lectures, convey understanding, or clear up confusion on his assignments. This is NOT an easy class, and I LOVE to read and write. Disappointed.
Welling is great if you're able to take initiative and ask a lot of questions. He's scatterbrained, but once you get him on topic, he knows his stuff and answers questions without making you feel stupid. He'll let you write about almost anything even if it's only tangentially relevant. He's really funny in an awkward dad-joke way, and ngl he's cute
He is a nice guy but he loves to push his liberal agenda. On day one of the semester, he was already talking about "global warming" and he is more focused on political garbage than teaching his course. I also only received one grade from him all semester and grades are due tomorrow. He also expects you to know things that do not apply to the course
Very scatter brained & easily distracted. The due date for the main research paper changed 5 times & we turned in the first rough draft 2 & half months ago &havent gotten it back & are expected to turn in the rest. if you need structure DO NOT take his class. Hes very nice & understanding though if something happens and you turn something in late.
Only bad part about this class and that he takes a long time to grade papers. Turned in a paper in the beginning of September and still have yet to receive a grade. Only 2 weeks left in the semester and I do not know what my final grade may be because of this paper. All other grades (quizzes and test) are online. Including the final.
Turned in papers, and never got them back. Seriously. It's difficult to write papers more papers when you don't get feedback on them. Due dates got pushed back, some papers got dropped due to not having enough time left in the semester. He's kind and understanding, but the lack of structure is hard to rely on.
He is very passionate about English and literature, and he has a nice caring heart. Those are really the only compliments I can give. He is very unorganized and makes this class extremely difficult. 55% of your grade will be based off of 3 essays, none of which he explains how to write, and the rest of your grade is based on very tough quizzes.
He's a great professor, by far the easiest from what I have experienced. If you want to take a English class that only requires one essay and a couple quizzes that are so easy to pass, this guy is your man. Only thing is just show up to his class and pay attention the rest is a piece of cake. Really recommend him, he is also very caring .
Welling is compassionate but unorganized. I didn't need to do the readings in-depth to obtain the participation points needed for the class. The main research paper was the biggest priority. Participate in the class discussions, pick a solid thesis topic and you should do fine.
Professor Welling is incredibly nice but not a great professor. He is incredibly unorganized and just walking into his office will give you a panic attack. He takes forever to grade and put grades in the grade book. He pushed back my final essay so he had more time to work on his personal writing (not professional). I got a good finalgrade though.
Professor Welling is amazing will take again. He requires a big research project that we work on throughout the semester and a presentation about the topic that we chose. He schedules two conferences, which are basically a few minutes, to give feedback on how the project is coming along. He also required a group field trip which is fun.
Bart is THE MAN! one of the most caring and respectful professors I have had. he will always work with you. For what he lacks in organization , he makes up with great readings and interesting course work. You can tell he loves to teach. If you don't love English he will find a way to make you love it. take his course!
Professor Welling is too woke. I took this class thinking it was a class about fiction books in American culture. Instead, it was about Professor Wellings's view on woke subjects. Felt uncomfortable being in class.
Professor Welling is very nice, but I did not like the way this course progressed. He took a month and a half to even grade the first part of our essay for the class. Then we had to catch up from that gap of time where we didn't do much at all in the class. The lack of organization ruined the class for me.
Professor Welling is extremely unorganized and will punish you for that. He took nearly 3 months to grade my first paper and didn't provide enough time to do the final paper. His lectures were also the dullest I have experienced in college so far. I would avoid Professor Welling at all costs.
Professor Welling is an overall nice professor, you can tell he's passionate about the topics he mentions during lectures. He does take very long to get the papers graded but Homework consisted of 2 Essays and a few Quizzes. Very easy class.
Dr. Welling is a knowledgeable professor. He didn't grade things promptly and was rarely accessible outside of class. He always posted homework last minute. However, he is an easy grader and I did enjoy his class.
Took him for one of my first few classes and hes a great guy with class, he actually cares about what his students have to say and listens, while im not a writing major his class is one will remember
Okay- was Dr. Welling the most amazing professor I've ever had? No. Was he the worst? Also no. I hate RMP sometimes because you can tell that lazy students come on here and give a harsh review. It is not that hard to participate in his class, and when you do, you help yourself out a lot. He is very opinionated, but also knowledgeable. 7/10
He does a lot of talking during lecture, some may seem pointless lol and can get a bit boring. There was only one paper in the entire class that was done in parts, he does online quizzes every so often and some in class discussion. The schedule gets a bit wonky towards the middle of the semester but he does his best and is very nice.
Professor Welling is a passionate lecturer who requires meetings for each paper but doesn't provide clear due dates or release grades. He's not very accessible outside of class and gives unclear assignment instructions. While he's talkative and passionate about his work, I found the class confusing.
