Listen carefully. Barun is a great person in general, however, to be honest. He cannot teach. If you are someone that expects PHYS 218 to be about formulas, Barun will prove you wrong. I came in feeling that is all physics would be which it is, however Barun would just make it very complicated. If you can try to take another professor do so!

Some days you walk into lecture with a clear understanding of the topic just to leave with no understand while other time(much less) you walk into lecture wondering what's going on and come out crystal. Alot of self teaching occurs during this course with the sporadic, hit or miss teaching/tirades that go on in lecture. I would not recommend.

He assigns far more work than other professors. One homework was more than 30 multi-step problems when most profs assign 10 to 15! He would even assign homework due hours before tests. I would often leave class more confused than when I came in as he often tends to over explain and complicate concepts. Do not take him. Get out while you still can!

Honestly, if you are willing to put forth a lot of effort, and I mean a lot of effort, you can do ok in this class. If making a good grade is important, I would strongly recommend taking a different professor. But if you don't have a choice, he isn't the end of the world. He does really care and you can enjoy his class, but tests are way too hard.

I've never taken a single physics course before 218 w/ Dr. Dhar. I got an A in the class solely because of how helpful and caring Dr. Dhar is. One night he stayed until 1 am at office hours to help with homework concept questions. For those who are leaving bad reviews all I can say is that I never once saw them at office hours. Come on people, TRY!

Id never taken physics before, but Dhar really worked with me. Best prof ever; hardest class I've ever taken. Keep an open mind, do HW properly & go to office hours! Youll gain a solid foundation in physics, but also in problem solving & work ethic. Youll work your butt off. Its worth it. Hes systematic its hard to mess up using his ways.

Barun Dhar is an amazing professor. He teaches with passion, common sense, and most of all DISCIPLINE!!! Discipline is the key. As long as you have discipline, Barun will go to great lengths to help you succeed, even staying past midnight in office hours. His lectures cover misconceptions, his office hours cover specific homework problems.

Dhar is by far one of the best professors I've had hands down. He is always willing to go out of his way to help the students and make sure that they understand the material. I would definitely love to take Dhar again.

Gives great lectures. Clear voice, and easy to understand. Makes physics fun, and introduced the class to a few variables in Sanskrit. Lots of homework, and hard exams, but if you do what he says, you will pass for sure.

Yes his class is tough, and yes you are going to struggle and possibly hate him while you are taking the class. However, come the exams Dr. Dhar's students have the highest averages. It sucked, but I feel his class prepared me for the rest of my college career. Take him if you want to learn not only physics but other important skills for success.

First of all, physics 208 at Texas A&M is very difficult. Barun Dhar is a very helpful professor IF you personally go to him for help. He will make sure you understand a concept BUT will not just simply tell you how to do a certain problem. He hosts office hours every single day and makes sure students have a chance to meet with him.

Made sure that we understood the concepts. I would ask him a question, and from there he was able to know what concepts I didn't know, even if I didn't directly ask him about it. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have known that I had problems in other topics. Spends long hours after class to help us, our confusion became clarity.

Dhar is a truly caring professor who's teaching style is unique but extremely effective. After having other physics professors give make up lectures it became even more transparent of how great of a prof he is. Our class had the highest physics test averages across the board. He cares about what you know and how you think.

Dr. Dhar was an awesome prof and if he wasn't moving onto another university I would for sure take a course from him again. He is understanding if you talk to him and is always there to answer questions. I took ASTR 109 with him, and if you hate writing, peer review, and showing up to class this is not the course for you but NO TESTS!

Very, very spectacular professor. Huge shame that he is moving away. He is very passionate about Physics, and is willing to spend hours outside of class just conversing with students about the subject matter. He is very knowledgeable, inspiring, and committed. I would take any class he teaches. Model prof, and is very dedicated to his students.

Dhar is the greatest. Yes the material is difficult but he is by far the best person to learn it from(this was made clear to me when I had subs). He is always available outside of class to help you and you should go!!!! His office hours are SUPER helpful mini lectures. Showing him that you care about your performance will help you in the long run.

Best professor I've ever taken. Took him for PHYS 218 (Mechanics), and stuck with him through PHYS 208 (Magnetism/Electricity/Optics) and it was the best decision. It's essential to go to lectures and do everything he tells you to do. He's always there during office hours, and I highly recommend going. I would take him for every class if I could.

Would take again

Didn't pass Physics 218 my 1st time w Bassichis. Since I've taken the course before &seen other teaching styles I know for a fact Dhar is the most passionate& helpful professor for 218. There's tons of work but that makes everything worth less. As opposed to a final worth 40% (in Dont Panic), there's room to make a few mistakes & still do well

Wouldn't take again

If you don't spend 100% of your time working on his class, he will not care much for you. If you do somehow spend tons of time on his class you'll do well and he'll love you. Hard professor and sometimes you'll feel dumb but he really wants you to learn.
