I chose Cortest & they switched teachers to Mr. Rahula. I left after the first break & dropped the class because of his thick Indian accent. He might be qualified intellectually, but he is IMPOSSIBLE to understand. THIS IS ENGLISH! I was outraged. He could barely understand us. He's basically a good guy at heart, he has great morals and he's obviously worked for what he has. However, English is NOT his subject. If he doesn't understand your paper, you will fail. I'm sorry, but i'm not one to simplify all my essays so it fits a bhuddist monks' likings. I think he needs to realize what literature is all about.

I DO NOT recommend this class, I ended up dropping this class. It's hard to understand what he's saying because of his accent. His essays aren't easy because he doesn't really explain what he's looking for in the paper.

I would like to say Dr. Rahula is a very kind,helpful instructor. He has explained very clearly how all of our assignments should be done. He has taken extra time with each and every student to explain and go over any problem areas. I feel as though if you pay attention and take notes you should have no excuse for not obtaining a good grade.BRAVO!

This professor has an excellent teaching style. He allows his students ample time to complete assignments. He does everything he can to help students and be sure they understand the material discussed in class.

Great teacher. I am very upset by those who talk badly of him and try to get him in trouble. They DO NOT PAY ATTENTION. People on here saying that it's only a bad class if you don't pay attention and don't take notes.. in my class i don't see anyone taking notes. he spends a lot of time on explaining HIS reports he has written in the past and never enough on the assignment. he's stubborn and no i'm not saying this because i do not pay attention. And every paper i turn in is not in focus, however when i fix everything he tells me to fix, it still isn't right. I don't get it. I thought having an english teacher with english as a SECOND language might give the class some insight that we normaly would not see. UNFORTUNATELY he has no idea what he is doing. He is educated, but does not know how to teach. He knows how to identify grammar errors, but not how to explain why an essay has a C.

Yeah, Rahula is a hard professor and has a very specific grading style. But what professor doesn't? For each different English professor I've had, I've had to learn to write a certain way to satisfy them. Even though Rahula prefers extreme clarity in your papers, his hard critiques allowed me to drastically improve. If you work hard you'll learn.

I love English and writing is something I do even at home when I have free time. It is a great ativity. I however, cannot understand Mr. Rahula. He has no organizational skills which I must say are vital to a teachers success in teaching students how to learn. He does not give clear instructions. Do not take this class! He can't even speak english!

Just because people can't pay attention in class, doesn't mean they should blame the prof. Dr. Rahula is one of the best teachers I've had. Yes, he has an accent, but he explains everything clearly, answers all questions, and encourages success. He's worth every minute of the accent.

Despite the negative comments, Dr. Rahula is very helpful and only expects you to do your best. He gives you very clear notes on each paper and very clear advise on every draft. He even helps you to organize your paper. The class drags on a bit, but Dr. Rahula is a great teacher and I recommend him to anyone who is serious about their education.

Bad teacher. Do not take this class. Dr. Rahula does not understand how to grade english papers. His opinion alone is all that matters and it's a waste of time to go to class. All you'll be doing is looking at links from google.

Dr. Rahula is a teacher of the highest caliber. He has no motivation other than to inspire people through his love of the English language and of literature in general. If you are looking for an easy class, perhaps his class is not for you. If you truly want to be challenged and to learn, look no further. Dr. Rahula will open your eyes.

Dr. Rahula is a good man, and a good English professor. His assignments are tough, and he is looking for students to put in a lot of effort. He does grade very critically but he is always willing to help you on your papers. He is a great teacher, but if you are looking for a blow-off English class, then this one isn't for you.

Dr. Rahula is a very nice and smart man. Unfortunately, he us also very unorganized and condescending. One of the worst teacher I have bad.

Dr. Rahula is willing to help you in any way he can, both in and out of class. He proofed all papers and told us exactly what areas of the paper needed correction. I am shocked to see some of these reviews, I found Dr. Rahula to be more than fair. He just wants his students to become better writer. I am glad he was my 1301 professor.

Professor Rahula is nice, but that's it. I would recommend staying away from this class. It is difficult to understand him, his assignments are sometimes unclear, and he wastes class time talking about things that don't relate to English. However, there is hardly any homework, so if you think you can brave his thick accent, the best of luck.

This teacher is the worst. He is very stubborn and his opinion is the only he considers in a paper. I turn in a paper and he came upon a word he did not understood. The word "cellmate" Do not take his class you will regret it.

This professor is very hard to understand!!!! He will give you guidelines on how to write a paper then tell you it is completely wrong. His is very opinionated and wishy washy. The whole class felt that he had picked favorite students and graded you based on that. DO NOT take this class, at the end you will only be confused and dissapointed!!!

He is my favorite professor hands-down! I enjoyed his class so much I took his Buddhist Lit class also. He does have an accent but he's not hard to understand, as long as you try. His teaching technique has improved my writing tremendously! I highly recommend him for his insight, his logic and for the extra help he provides his students.

Dr. Rahula is great. If you expect to improve writing skills, Dr. Rahula is your best choice. He demonstrates excellent skills and helps you earn good grades. If you are dedicated, taking Dr. Rahulas course will significantly strenghten your writing. Dr. Rahulas course will help prepare you for higher level courses. Professor Rahula was an excellent professor. His class wasn't hard at all. Despite English is not my first language, everything he said was pretty easy to understand. Having interest in what he teaches and paying attention to his lectures should be enough to get an easy A.

He was the WORST professor ive ever had!! Can not understand a word he says, he is VERY unorganized. Never gives papers back on time. I loved english before this class and I couldnt wait to be out of his class the second day!! His accent is horibly thick, he cannot spell!!! If you hsve trouble in english i suggest you DO NOT take him!!

He was extremely hard to understand and he was never helpful. His writing techniques are very different and he expects you to adapt to his ways. He grades hard and critiques everything. I found that he did not work well with women, but that may of just been my class. This is not an easy class, take caution.

I admit he is a bit hard to understand at times but, if you just ask him to clarify what he wants, he will sit with you and talk to you and you will get it. His papers are EASY because you have guidelines that go by each paragraph. He is kind and the students who are complaining DO NOT pay attention in his class nor do they do the work right.

Very basic class. You basically will spend time writing 4 different essays. All of which have VERY detailed plans as to how to do them. It is very easy to not only pass but do well if you follow the guidelines. He can be very strict as to how perfect they should be (he really wants the best out of you).

I see that most people seemed happy with Dr. Rahula's 1301 course; however, I found 1302 to be disappointing. I earned an A in the class, but none of my homework or papers were handed back to me until 2 weeks before the semester ended. Also, he lost several of my assignments and drafts. I strongly advise against taking him for 1302.

He was such a bad professor. I went into English 1302 loving it, I walk out of it hating it. I am an A student but failed the class. He is very hard to understand.

His accent is not a problem but some slang confuses him, so write professionally! He provides EXTREMELY detailed examples and expectations of every essay you are to write during the semester and he will help you with whatever you need. He returns your papers sooner if they're interesting/good. He is a good teacher who looks out for his students.

I found his accent a little hard to follow. While he gives details on what he wants from you, I found it a bit conflicting. We always had a topic, never a "Write what you want." As a writer, that sucks. It's easy, he's easy, just do the work. But I'm not gonna take him again.

I took 1301 and 1302 with Dr. Rahula and I think he is excellent. He understands the importance of connecting with his students and isn't afraid to adapt. His accent was easy to adapt to, and he understands that some of his pronunciations are incorrect and will clarify the word to the class in order to avoid confusion.

I'm not one that'll complain because I didn't take notes or pay attention. I did, I made an A. But I wouldn't take him again. He constantly uses google to teach, never has a lecture prepared, is forgetful, and loses assignments. He emails surprise assignments on random days, once at 10:30pm the night before an 8:00am class. I don't recommend him.

Dr. Rahula was very helpful. Sometimes his accent is hard to understand, but clearly not that bad if I passed. He gives a lot of time in class to work on assignments and always helped to answer my questions.

Dr.R is a very tough teacher. He is from Sri Lanka. It is very hard to understand his accent. He is very strict on what he wants from you. You have two tests and four essays or papers. No reading. I would not take him again.

Other than his bad Sri Lankan accent, he's probably the worst essaypaper grader I've ever seen. Reads the first two paragraphs and then bases the rest of the paper off of it. Got an A on all his quizzes and the test or two he gave. Still ended up with a B+ somehow? Would not take him again nor recommend him to anyone.

I took this class a while ago, but he really liked me. I love to write and he asked me to go to his ENGL 1302 class but it wasn't a requirement for me. His accent is a little hard to understand, but sit in the front row and you will be fine. Write down everything on the board/ projector. He is really smart and will help you but only if you ask.

Dr. Rahula is definitely a teacher that likes essays. The class has more rhetoric and argument than other classes, but the homework that is assigned is doable. His accent is thick (from Sri Lanka), but if you need it, he does clarify politely if you ask. Not a tough grader, and is flexible. He is very chill, and encourages class discussion.

Completely does not know how to teach. You will not be able to understand a word he is saying with his thick Sri Laken accent. All his papers are topics he only cares about. He only reads first two paragraphs and grades your paper off of that. I could watch the Disney channel for five minutes and learn more than a whole semester with him.

Horrible accent, it makes it really tough to understand him. It should be required of anyone who teaches English to speak it clearly. The guy is nice but the heavy accent makes everything tough.

ENGL 1302 excellent class. He is a English expert . I work hard and got A. You need to work hard and you can earn a good grade. He will not offer grades. you have to earn grades showing your abilities about English language.

He does not have the right Temperament to be a teacher. Very angry and nervous and panicky and dishonest character.

I took Dr. Rahula's ENGL1302 class over the summer and received an A. He was very kind and passionate about "beautiful writing." All I did was precisely follow his directions for the essays to receive A's on them and in the class. I transferred from another college and was baffled to see the writing skill levels of many of my peers in this class.
