Ok, in her defence, I know for a fact that she is bipolar. With her, it is like walking on egg shells, but you have to admit that you do learn a lot. I got an A and never had any problems with her, but then again, my step-dad is also bi polar so I knew how to work around her moods.

Dr. Newman is'nt as bad as everyone says she is. No, she doesnt get personal with her students, but who is looking for that? the next semester you wont even care about your last professors. This lady will teach you how to become an excellent writer if you just let her. She wants everyone to get A's in her class. I got one! ;)

She's really helpful if you go speak with her outside of class. She'll give extensions and does a lot more if you'll make the effort to go see her outside of class. In class she's very clear and looks for people with different views on topics. Don't call her Miss Newman or she'll get upset. "I earned my Doctor Status" she would say.

good professor taught me a lot obout the death penalty. need to go to class in order to pass.2 mjr writng assig. no reading at all everything on death penalty mostly watch movies very easy class if you attend class and do yr work i got an A.. very helpful out of class and rewards you for yr efforts :) GOOD PROFESSOR

Dr. Newman is a great professor! The class is all about the death penalty. 3 majors assignments, 2 essays on death penalty movies and a research paper on the death penalty. It sounds hard but she'll help you through it. She can be a bit rude at times but she wants every student to do good in her class. She likes to give A's

The theme of this class was the death penalty. No books needed. We watched two movies where we had to write an analysis for each. We had one major research paper where Dr. Newman pretty much walks you through it. She can be rude sometimes but she is very knowledgeable. One piece of advice, do not call her miss/mrs call her Dr.

alot of people say she is mean, but that is not true. she is only mean to disrespectful people. I had her for spring 09 in childrens literature and she was great. She likes for you to participate in class and attending is important also. but as lond as you lay low and turn in all your assignment you will do great!! very nice prof overall great clas

I loved her! Movies all the way. only hard part is the essays but we type them all NO WRITING :) very helpful. Will get annoyed and raise voice only if your talkin while shes talking but overall shes an AWESOME professor!

She seems nice at the beginnign, as long as u dont get on her bad side, ur fine. Just make sure u attend class and b on time, and don't ever ask her something she just explained, otherwise, she will put u on the spot and embarass u, but her class is an easy A, even though she was high expectations for her students. Highly recommend her!*

She's the best!sweet and nice. I think other people are confusing her with someone else, because when I added her class I was afraid of the things they said about her.. but they were all wrong (: I definitely recommend her. We watch movies and write essays about them, and she's really helpful and friendly.

She was probably one of the best professors i will ever have. Every negative comment is wrong. She was very helpful and nice,if your a good student,do your work,and participate in class, you will be one of her favorites.

Dr. Newman is the best proffessor in my experience for summer 1... she is always in a good mood, really helpful, THE CLASS WILL ONLY BE HARD FOR LOSERS THAT DONT WANT TO DO THEIR WORK...we only do writing! What is so hard about that??!!

EXTREMELY helpful teacher. She doesn't teach off of books, only movies. If you don't write an essay right the first time, she'll tell you straight up, but she also helps you correct it. Took her class in the Summer

Dr.Newman was a very helpful professor and she improved my writing greatly! Likes students who ask questions and are interested and participate in the class discussions. You basically watch 2 movies and write 2 essays on them and a seperate 2 essays. no final! she encourages group work which is awesome! i really enjoyed her class :)

She was honestly the best English teacher I had ever had. Summer I. Easy A. She works on drafts with you before turning in a final essay. If you get a low grade she will work with you and will usually pick it up. Grades are given right away and with detailed feedback. No textbook at all. always replies to emails quickly AWESOME professor overall.

She's a sweet lady with a scary bite. READ THE SYLLABUS! She has a lot of fun with what she does and makes in-class work fun, too. She brought candy every meeting! Just do your work and don't do anything to even REMOTELY anger her.

She gives a rubric for what she wants exactly&sometimes even does the assignments for an example. Just follow your thesis and topic sentences. She's very helpful, gives out extra credit like crazy, is always in her office and cares for you. She has no tests&no book, everything was essays with a long time to work on. Impossible to fail her class:)

She is awesome and incredibly sweet. Follow her instructions, go to conferences &use the work days to your advantage. She will teach you all you need to know about writing for your college years, as well as for your future in the work force. Take her, you won't regret it! The best teachers are those who teach what they have a passion for.

If you are an English major who is interested in writing or has a talent for writing, then this class is very easy. True this teacher can be tough, but I found it easy to please her. However, this is not a class to write your essays at the last minuet. She gives you plenty of time to work on them in which you should use it wisely.

Attendance is mandatory!! She waits for no one! But she is a great teacher, & cares about her students, only if they are willing to try. She shows movies in class, & has 'dead days' where students stay home and write and submit. She requires participation, & has volunteers read their essays out loud, & have the class correct them. She helps a lot.

Dr. Newman is A great professor and is very passionate she is arming you for your future whether it be teaching or just writing. She is willing to help you if you are interested yes she is critiquing hard but it's for your own good I can tell you all one thing, you will leave her class with more knowledge in writing than when you first entered

Outlines clear and coherent expectations for products to be submitted. Encourages writers to challenge themselves and has a wealth of knowledge in regards to providing insightful methods for teaching the subject. She is well suited for English majors interested in pursuing teaching. Overall, excellent professor.

She's a really nice teacher, but show her you are trying. Writing assignments are based on movies. There are "work" days aka no class.

Dr. Newman is one one of the best teachers I ever had. She's very clear with her expectations and criteria fro every assignments. Going to class and to her 5 min. private conferences are the keys to have an A, and of course showing effort in your writing compositions.

When I took Dr. Newman I received an A for the course. Her class involved movie based writing and some creative writing. She offers a lot of extra credit, mentor material, and constructive feedback to help guide your writing. However, participation matters in her class so if you skip a day she will probably be reluctant to understand your absence.

Dr. Newman is so great. I wish she was my professor for every class. She is helpful and provides lots of extra credit. As long as you read her little outlines carefully you should get an A in this class. It does take work, however and it is not something guaranteed. I received a B- because I did slack off towards the beginning of the semester.

Dr. Newman is a great professor. Everything is organized really well so it's easy to stay on track. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities too. The lectures she provides are a bit rigorous and completing the assignments does take a lot of time. She's very straight-forward too so she can seem a tad unkind but that's not the case.

Take her class! The majority of the time we have online days (work from home on your assignments). Barely wrote any essays, only a few. Majority of class is assignments on blackboard with clear instructions. No textbooks or books you have to buy! So many extra credit opportunities.

Amazing Professor. Took her in the summer and it was a breeze. Assignments are not difficult at all! She also gives so many extra credit opportunities. If you don't get an A in this class, you honestly didn't even try.

It's an easy A class, tons of extra credit. If you fail the class you did not try at all. The majority of the class is online work, she always cancels class for independent work so sometimes you won't have to go to class all week. Really recommend this class.

I took Dr. Newman for ENGL 1301 & 1302, I really enjoyed her class, it's an easy A! It is a lot of work, but it's doable. She offers A LOT of extra credit, so take it. I do have to say that her feedback is a little harsh if your work is not what she wants; however, if there is still time, you can revise and resubmit!

Professor Newman's class was honestly a breeze. Never had any problems with her. Expected what others said but not true. I don't get how others perceive her so negatively. Her feedback improved my writing. She gave plenty of time to turn in assignments and had given bonus points for turning it in early. I had fun learning and will take her again.

Gives out SO much extra credit if you turn assignments early! Gives amazing feedback too. Lets you redo your assignments up to like 4 times in hopes you get a better grade. Her assignments were really fun and I really enjoyed her class. Very inspiring. Just make sure you are on top of your work and do NOT be afraid to ask her for help .

Dr. Newman was an amazing professor! She is very picky on her grading but she clearly explains what you need to do in order to receive a high grade. Her assignments aren't hard, however, some are time consuming. Overall, she is a great professor who truly cares about her students.

She is a great Professor! She is specific with grading, but she will give you a chance to fix it and turn it in. We have no tests, no midterm, and no final. If you do the work in her class and follow instructions, you will get an easy A. Mainly do PowerPoints and discussions. She is caring and moves due dates when it's midterm/final season.

I understand the negative comments but I'm taking her for Summer1 & truthfully her class is super easy. She gives a ton of extra credit opportunities & expects you to just post on time. If you can do that you'll be fine. Also I've see things about her work being personal, she just wants real responses. All in all super easy class don't get spooked.

The only thing you have to look out for is the instructions if you submit something wrong she will give you a zero. You also have to write very creative pieces of writing she loves cliches. Three essays for the entire semester and she is always available to help.

I took her for Summer I. There were a lot of assignments, but they weren't hard & she makes all her instructions & grading criteria very clear. be careful with submitting instructions if you do it wrong she will give you a zero. She also loves creative writers and cliches. She is very nice and always ready to help.

Dr. Newman is such a great professor. If you have a true passion for reading and literacy studies, you will love this course. p.s., approach or email Dr. Newman with only properly written emails and express your problems with true concern about your own learning moving forward in the course. She is really kind and understanding if you are, too.

While sometimes admittedly appearing abrasive, Dr. Newman is simply blunt. She cares about student learning and will push you to do better. She is very responsive and will challenge you. I learned a lot from her class and went from disliking it to loving it by the end of the semester. Please give her a chance!
