Great teacher! Very fair, organized and helpful!
Great professor. Makes Spanish fun.
Good, fair teacher. I didn't do well in her class, but that was my fault, not hers.
Super nice and makes going to class pretty easy.
its a bit tough, however she is super super nice and makes class fun, if you put in a bit of work you will get a good grade
she is such a great teacher. She makes the class so interesting. She uses so many different techniques-videos, class discussions and listening exercises so her students will not be bored. Also, going out to dinner at Inka's Grill was so much fun! :)
She is very nice, you will get at least a "B" if you have a brain. To get an "A" is not hard but requires some work. I really think she is the most professional instructor I have ever had.
Loved her Spanish class!!!
She is very sweet and cares about teaching. I had fun in her class, it took me back to high school.
AWESOME! she is so so so nice. I thought she may be a hard a** at first but she really is nice, she is the most professional prof. I have EVER had.
This teacher is rude and arrogant. She keeps us in class longer than any other professor. She tells people to come and leave good comments on this site. DO NOT TAKE. Cannot understand her.
great teacher... she is amazing and very friendly... she helps you one-on-one so you get a better grade... one of the best professors i've come across
amazing I have never met a more professional professor in my time at saddleback and eventually UCSD. I cant explain how nice she is jsut a really amazing person. The "1" rater has to be a joke, tseng is an awesome awesome lady great great time.
so so awesome, a really nice lady and she makes the course material easy and fun.
Prof. Tseng made a difficult semester, fun! She is so sweet and kind and the class is truly fun. I would recommend her to anyone, the best Professor I've ever had. You really have to study, do your homework and the extra credit, but I got an "A" and it wasn't that difficult. A++ for her!
she's awsome teacher ive ever met. she's great nice and funny. there's lots of extra credits so you can take advantage of it amd you can easily get A in her class. i really enjoyed her class!!! i highly recommand!!!!!!!!!!
SHE IS GREAT
La profesora is a FANTASTIC teacher! Usually language classes are dry and repetitive, but she makes the time fly.
Wonderful teacher!! Highly recommended. Fun and very animated. She makes learning Spanish fun.
Tseng is passionate about teaching students. Very sweet instructor. Pls take her
THis teacher is awesome. Very sweet and teaches with "umph!" Best spanish teacher I hav ever had! Take this class!
Profesora Tseng does is amazing. I had never taken spanish before and was nervous, however, she uses many different tools to teach spanish ie: bingo, listening to music, etc. She is an excellant communicator and is clear and concise in her instruction both written and verbal. You always know what to expect from her! I would highly recommend her!
A really amazing woman, a real class act. I had her and got an "A" she went out of her way to write me a letter of rec for grad school, yes grad school after my I did my B.A she still helped me out. I didnt know a lick of spanish until this class and she made it an amazing time.
She is very professional and loves what she does. This makes class fun. She is always very helpful and clear. One of the most professional professors I ever had. Got an A in her class.
She is very dedicated to her students and cares about them. She makes boring language class fun and interesting. One of the best professor at IVC!
VERY dedicated teacher. Class is not easy, but its not hard, if you put the time in you will get an A. Great teacher, very helpful, very understanding. Easily one of the best teachers at IVC.
I loved Profesora Tseng. She enjoys teaching and working with students, and it clearly shows. Easily one of the most enjoyable classes at IVC.
Professora Tseng is wonderful! If you have the opportunity to take her Spanish 1 class, I definitely encourage you to do so. She is so patient and very thorough. She is always cheerful and optimistic, it is almost impossible to become bored.
Best teacher i have ever had!
Online class, but I believe it will no longer be offered. Still she was a great intstructor and really eager to help. Has a lot of passion for teaching. Tests can be a little hard
Online Class. Very easy, she is approachable and understanding. Take her and you will actually LEARN, even though it is online. She makes it very interactive and the assignments are rather easy, as are the assessments. Two reallife meetings: 1 dinner, 40 easy points, and 1 discussion, 50 easy points. Take her and you won't regret it at all.
Took this professor for Honors spanish 1, she was great. She knows her subject very well and makes it fun to learn. She goes all out to help you, attendance is mandatory, and there is a bit of hw but it all helps learn the subject. I highly recommend her if you actually want to learn the subject. She's really nice and will help you all the time
SHE ROCKS!
Online class. It's a lot more work than you would expect, but if your goal is to learn Spanish, you'll learn in this class. Just be prepared to be dedicated to doing homework, participating in discussion forums, and writing compositions. Prof Tseng is thorough and concientious. The clss should be re-designed for less homework, though.
Amazing teacher. I don't normally write comments because I'm lazy, but hey this women simply goes out of her way to help you if you are willing to do the same. Her Father passed away, and she got sick during my class with her and after 2 weeks of absences she was still a soldier and had the same charisma she has when I first met her. Amazing. Take
If you haven't taken spanish then dont take her. She is a good teacher but not for someone who doesn't know a word of spanish. She goes really fast and give you alot of work to do. Since she's asian it's hard to understand her spanish and english for that fact.I dont know the numbers yet and she is already telling us to write sentences.
NOT A GOOD TEACHER, HARD CLASS, TOO MUCH WORK.
Yes, it is a fast paced class and there are a lot of homework assignments, but the class is fun and the tests are easy. Profesora Tseng is a wonderful teacher who presents the material in a manner that facilitates comprehension. She has a very clear "international" Spanish accent that is easy to understand. Take!
Had 2 yrs. HS spanish, & this class was easy. Lots of hmwk, but u can finish in 2 mos. if you try. Mand. attendance. You get from this class what you put in. LOTS of interaction w/ classmates in espanol, which will be hard if you are shy. Highly recommend. Xtra credit pts are from the cultural lectures. Activities ($) required outside of class.
Fast track course for an intro class. Go to all classes and do the ass. early and go to event and movie night...all helps with your grade if you are not doing well. If you are doing well then skip all extra events and movies. Tests are pretty easy. Lots of outside classwork...lots! If you suck at spanish, think twice about this class.
NOT A GOOD INTRO CLASS. DON'T TAKE HER IF YOUR NOT READY FOR A HARD CLASS
If you do the assignments, you can pass this class easily. If you don't, you won't. It is just that simple. You cannot coast in this class and you cannot try to do all of the work the night before but since she goes to the effort of breaking it down into a manageable schedule, it is a no-brainer.
Online Spanish 4 Class. The class is 5 units for a reason, but I still recommend it. The homework assignments can get a little tedious at times. You should do the reading assignments before you take the tests. Is understanding of late/missed HW assignments and is on-top of her e-mails. She is a VERY GOOD Profesora y le recomiendo!
Ms. Tseng was very easy. I think she just didn't explain things very well to those who had never taken Spanish. I took 3 years in high school and it was easy breezy for me. I got an A in the class.
Great class, teacher is very helpful and very energetic. Always looked forward to going to class. If you do all the work you will get a good grade.
high energy extremely helpful lots of fun low homework
She's chill and has a lot of energy. Low homework. She gives you that feeling of high school again because she really cares for all her students. I took the honors course, and it wasn't too difficult. Overall, she's a very fun and high-energy teacher!
This class was easy, although I did take highschool Spanish many years ago. Beware of the mandatory attendance and that she rarely lets the class out earlier than the scheduled time. Treats her students like little kids at times which can become annoying. Overall high energy class and easy as long as you do EVERYTHING on the detailed syllabus.
I took her online Spanish 4 class and it was easy, but there's A LOT of work to do. There are also other things required beyond being online, like attending a class dinner, 2 cultural activities, and a one-hour meeting with her. But she's lovely and very helpful, so I enjoyed the class.
She is very enthusiastic and likes to do a lot of group activities. She is very concerned on how students are doing in her class and is ready to answer questions and to help you to understand something that doesn't make sense. She also acts out what she is teaching sometimes. Overall she made this a very easy and interesting class.
she is probably the most energetic teacher i have ever had. was concerned at first cause she is asian but she is actually from panama. as long as you study the vocabulary, easy A. not to much grammar to learn and not to much hw. FYI: if your a native speaker dont take the class with a significant other who isnt good at spanish.
I took her honors course and i loved it! She makes learning spanish so much fun and she's so energetic and passionate about her job. Definetley reccomend her!
She's a wonderful professor who's passionate about teaching. To succeed in this class all you need to do is pay attention and do your homework, because although some of the homework isn't mandatory, it helps with developing a familiarity with the language. A great class and teacher; would highly recommend!
Professor Tseng is absolutely nice and encouraging to her students. I recommend her if you want to learn spanish!!! :D
Amazing professor! She is very passionate and enthusiastic about teaching - she obviously loves her job and wants to help her students in every way. She makes the classes fun as well - hard to do with new languages. I learned a lot from her!
Profesora Tseng is the absolutely the best professor I had last semester. She made every class fun and entertaining. She is very approachable and wants you to succeed. The class can be a little boring if you took Spanish in high school like I did, but even as a refresher, this class is still great. Make sure to study for exams though!
I took her online class, but also worked with her in person, and she is the best professor i've had. She is helpful, attentive, respectful, and loves her job. I recommend her if you want to learn spanish and if you like a teacher that actually cares.
I loved professor Tseng, she is so passionate about Spanish and wants you to succeed. She always makes class entertaining and is incredibly helpful. I highly recommend taking her class!! Best professor I had all year!
Professor Tseng is an amazing teacher. She loves her job and wants her students to succeed. WF from my other spanish class and passed Tseng's with an A+. She is easy to understand and very clear. Tests aren't incredibly hard many students get 100%. Wish she taught every subject!! Take Professor Tseng if you have the chance!!
She is very passionate and loves what she does. I really do like her and recommend her to whoever that wants to really learn Spanish. However, attendance is mandatory and she is very strict on that matter.
Makes you want to learn Spanish. She is super helpful and kind! She is definitely the best Spanish teacher that I have ever taken.
Favorite prof of this semester. SO energetic, funny, and friendly. We rarely used the textbook. You could easily pass the class as long as you get a textbook access code for the online homework. Plus the textbook was about $200, but you can use the same book and code for Span 1-3 or 4 I believe
Shes honestly a very kind professor and she cares about her students! Shes approachable and she teaches very well. I recommend this class 100%. :)
GREAT professor! One of those rare ones with a golden sense of humor and works with you rather than against you. Never seen a professor care so much for her students; if you're not doing well she'll approach you and try to help you out. Very caring and understanding, also hilarious and passionate about her subject. Honestly one of the best profs.
One of the best professors I have ever seen. Just make sure you ask her to help you when you write essays and take advantage of the 50 points when you do 24 hours at the LAC
Great professor. Fun, animated, and passionate. Even though the class is taught in spanish, she gestures and makes sounds so you can figure out what she is talking about. Tests are very easy. Really wants to see her students succeed. I would try to take all spanish classes with her.
Prof. Tseng is an extremely kind, funny, and caring person. Her class is easy if you show up and pay attention. In one semester of Spanish 1 you learn so much. You have to do homework and write 3 essays. The tests are super easy. The class is fun and you end up really enjoying it. 10/10 would recommend! Also, you get a class party in the end.
Professor Tseng is a great Spanish teacher :) she is very caring and helps a lot with anything you need. Show up to class and you'll learn a lot. There's always extra credit opportunities on the quizzes and the quizzes are not hard at all. She gives you 2 months to remember a map you need to know for the final.
Great professor! I struggle with foreign languages, but she is VERY helpful if you ask. There is a lot of homework, but it helps your grade. Attendance is mandatory and a part of your grade. There are 3 essays, 6 quizzes, and a final. However, she offers a lot of extra credit. I highly recommend her for anyone needing to take Spanish.
She is a very sweet teacher. She cares about her students and WILL know you by name. Attendance is mandatory. Makes learning fun by adding games in Spanish like Jeopardy. I wouldn't call it an easy class, but it is a new language. If you work hard and study you'll pass. Best Spanish teacher at IVC.
best professor there is. very reasonable in grading, willing to help during office hours, and very clear with her online directions!!!
She is the best professor!!! She cares about her students and she always helps us improve our Spanish. If I have more time, I will take her class again!
She is one of the most caring teachers I've ever met. She wants her students to succeed. She is funny and bubbly. Her lectures are clear and easy. Lectures every class and you do group work. You only have to speak in front of the class once. Tests are fair and there are 3-4 essays (10-12 sentences per essay). HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Professor Tseng is the most caring professor- she really wants you to pass her class. Lectures are in Spanish she uses props & gestures to get her point across. Tips: study the vocab at the end of each chapter, pay attention to extra words that could be used as extra credit Q's. Take advantage of the extra credit & hours that she is at the LAC.
Profesora Tseng is a very inspirational professor. I learned a lot and really enjoyed taking Spanish 1.
Best professor ever! She really cares about her students and wants you to do well in her class. Although most of her class is lectures and conversation practice, it really helps during the test. The test is not hard if you spend your time reviewing the vocabs, and online HW also helps. I wish she teaches SPAN2. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
She truly cares about her students. What else do you need? She cares about you and she will help you no matter what. if you take this class little bit seriously and study, will be easy A I actually learned so much, truly cared about my class for the first time. She is truly happy teaching us and to boost us to succeed. Best Professor ever met.
As a none native speaker, learning a new language for me is quite challenging. But Professor Tseng is absolutely amazing. She really wants her student to learn from her class, she is caring and helpful, encourages you to ask her questions. She is by far the best teacher I've ever had. However, the course itself had lots of vocabs to remember.
She has to be one of the most caring professors Ive ever had. If you have a decent foundation for spanish (took it in highschool etc) its a breeze and an easy A. If youve never taken any spanish, youll have to put in a little work but still very easy to get an A! Attendance is 10% of your grade so dont miss too many classes. Shes the best!
I felt that I was wasting my time going to class sometimes, because I could understand the subject matter faster and better by reading the book.
The time she gives for online test is not enough. Her class is boring. I dont learn
Nice lady, but she isn't a native Spanish speaker, so you'll hear an American accent when she talks and she will make common mistakes non native speaker do. Time she give for tests is not enough
I feel like the lectures are pointless.
She was great B4 COVID-19. Then switched to zoom and she had no flexibility. She stuck to regular schedule which made it diff for some of us. ppl had issues with webcam, no daycare, no printer, etc & said we had to figure out ourselves. The time she gave us for exam was never enough. She didn't teach. The textbook wasn't helpful in teaching myself.
The workload is overwhelming for non-native speakers. Most of the lectures are done completely in Spanish so students without prior experience in Spanish have no chance in understanding unless they spend a lot of time prior to each class studying vocabulary. She's super strict on participation even being a couple minutes late counts as an absent.
I took her class because I saw that her rating before covid was amazing. As someone who has no basic knowledge about Spanish, even the first day of class was confusing. She didn't really go into detail when teaching, so you have to spend a lot of time outside of class reading the textbook and teach yourself.
Her accent was hard to understand and she was super strict on participation She marked you absent if you miss a discussion or were 5 minutes late. She didnt teach and Zoom lectures were pointless. There was entirely too much homework in many different locations, like three assignments due almost every night, and little to no lectures/teaching.
As a non-native speaker, just study like you are supposed to and you will do fine. This isn't high school. There are only 4 HW per 2 weeks(lol @ guy who said 3 per day). Remarks on her accent are uncalled for, she speaks extremely clearly. No pop quizzes, and exams are multiple choice. She is available almost 24/7 to help students through email.
Tseng has very heavy accent to the point that it can obscure understanding of what she is saying. She has no intention of helping you at all . She is very strict abt attendance If you think about taking her class, do yourself a favor and DONT. Amid this pandemic she made no effort to alleviate things for her students but instead made it miserable.
She is a horrible professor. Gives ridiculous expectations. Her zoom meetings, USELESS and didnt help with the classwork, which she didnt teach. You learned EVERYTHING online. One of the harder classes I've taken not because the content is difficult (which it is) but because it's SO MUCH BUSY WORK. Time she gives for test is never enough. AWFUL
I absolutely love Profesora. She is the most caring and helpful person ever. Most of the class is spent interacting with other classmates. She answers all emails and questions you may have, and her passion shines through her teaching. The tests are easy; questions are expected. Do the expected assignments, study the material, and you will succeed.
She makes the class much too difficult. Very dis-organized on the whole online set up, gets very confusing. sends you multiple emails. Just not organized and barely understand her accent. She also makes attendance very mandatory. Every 2 classes you are late your grade drops a full letter. I would not take this class again, especially not 2 days
Bad reviews are a *JOKE*. She's EXCEPTIONALLY reasonable & amazing teacher. She's very well organized, caring, grades very fairly, & HW is very doable. How to get an A: 1. attend class / participate 2. take notes 3. do ALL homework 4. make sure to get A's on early chapter exams while they're easy. You WILL start to learn Spanish well AND get an A
Meanest inflexible professor in IVC. The professor was extremely inconsiderate of this pandemic. She is OCD about being late to class and being on Zoom camera. Never enough time to complete tests. She is outdated both technically and educationally and she should not be a professor in 2020 unless she time travels back to the authoritarian era.
The other reviews are bull 1st you can email her any she usually replies on the same day 2nd HW is easy usually having all the answers in the back of the book if you need help 3rd zoom meetings are required, but it's a Spanish course duh, we need to talk it to learn 4th Her tests are extremely easy no grammar just vocab study vocab get an A
One of the worst Professors I've ever had. Can't see your grades, poor internet causes choppy Zoom lectures, unorganized, doesn't communicate outside of class except for tests. The videos that are posted that are supposed to help you are very low quality, best resource is Connect sources. You pretty much have to teach yourself Spanish. Just awful
Her class is not worth it. Needed to pass but honestly, she does not know how to teach young minds. Lectures are outdated, slides make no sense. It's time to retire because her old ways of teaching are ancient. Avoid at all costs.
I am honestly so confused at all the bad recent reviews. Maybe due to the pandemic her way of teaching may have been considered difficult for some students, but this class is easy if you just put in effort. Ask questions if you don't understand something, and just memorize the vocab. HW & tests all easy, and class is fun if you engage. Great prof!
Worst online class ever, DO NOT TAKE HER. The Zoom lectures are pointless. You need to teach yourself because she doesnt teach. Very strict on participation even being a couple minutes late counts as absent. She times the test like 35 questions in 35 minutes, like dude chill I need some time to read the freaking questions and look at the answers.
Prof Tseng is the worst teacher you can pick. She has no clue what shes doing, not sure why she is still teaching at ivc. Her power points are long and make no sense. Lectures are outdated, slides make no sense. It's time to retire because her old ways of teaching are ancient. She is also too strict about attendance if you´re late counts as absent.
Profesora Tseng is the best! She genuinely cares about her students & helping them learn, and she's one of those professors you can actually have a conversation with. It's a language class, so you can expect it to require learning vocab, etc., but as long as you study the material you should get a good grade.
My mother had Tseng 10 years ago and I had her this year. She remembers my mother and her lectures are very self explanatory. She will only teach you in Spanish, here and there she speaks english. Her exams can be a little tricky so you need to study hard for it even if you have a hard time learning a new language. Don't be shy to talk to her.
Do yourself a favor and just take online spanish with a different professor. She just signs you up for some online course on McGraw-Hill and you follow that. She adds assignments on Canvas without saying anything. Never seen a more disorganized person and her attitude is crap. Im glad ive never had to meet her in person, im sure it would be worse
Class is conducted mostly in English. She is not clear and changes requirements after the work is completed. Learned more and felt more confident with the tutor than after a Zoom class with her. Even the native speakers found her course confusing. She is the Spanish Chair, so she won't offer student evaluations. Take the class from another Profesor
Very strict with attendance , she didnt teach anything in the class , I know a lot of people in her class already knew Spanish and took it for an easy A but I was starting from scratch so she wasnt very helpful at all. She would get pretty moody randomly and when I did bad on a test she recommended I just drop the class. Smh
Professora is the best teacher i could've asked for in my first semester. I had her for spanish 1, tests are vocab based so if you make flashcards you will be all set. Listen to her lectures and take notes. She engages well and is very understanding. She will drop lowest test grade at end of semester and even give extensions. Highly recommend
Tseng is the best! She is super caring and truly wants to see all of her students succeed. Tests are primarily on vocab, and there is a writing portion for tests 4-6. Lowest score is dropped. Do note that if you skip class more than once, your participation grade will be affected.
Professor Tseng is very strict about attendance, but her class is chill, and exams are all multiple-choice (besides the written portion). Class is mostly just talking exercises, and homework is easy. Because it's honors, there's also a cultural written assignment and oral presentation. If you're familiar w/ Spanish, it should be fine!
Honestly if the ratings could go lower than one I would have used that. She is a horrible teacher that gives an overbearing amount of homework that she never checks. This is a Spanish one course but it has bits and pieces of Spanish 2 and 3 as well. She is old school, not online savvy and her attitude is horrible. Her Canvas was confusing. AVOID!!
She is a very nice professor that would help us a lot and this class was really fun and she really cared about all of us.
The best teacher hands-down when it comes to extensions.Very flexible but participation matters. Homework is very clear. Expectations are clear. If I could I would take this class again. Very inspiring and caring. Take this class with her you won't regret it.
Professor Tseng is a caring instructor who provides a structured learning environment. The class can be challenging, but her clear expectations and engaging lectures make it manageable. Flashcards, study sessions, and tools like unstuck ai are helpful for success.
Such an amazing professor. Talk to her about anything, and this class will be easy. Trust try this class and you'll enjoy it.
