You cannot understand a word she says.
An oasis of joy in the desert of boredom of BIO203! Dr. Castro actually prepares her classes and makes the content interesting. Rather than giving you a ton of useless material to memorize, she gives concise slides with diagrams summarizing the info. I passed the exam just by going to class and reading the slides several times.
Very nice professor: She explains very well in class, is always open for questions, and helps a lot during office hours.
Excellent instructor. I really enjoyed her lectures!
Out of the three instructors for A&P, I would say Castro is the best. Though she is rather difficult to understand based upon her heavy accent, her lecture content and slides are actually very detailed and helpful. She was also much more caring and cooperative compared to the other two. Just memorize her slides and notes, and you'll be just fine.
Dr. Castro knows her material very well and loves teaching it. She is very enthusiastic and does a great job at keeping the students' interest throughout the class relating the material to common diseases and medical conditions. Highly likely, the only part of the course that I will remember.
The only professor that seems to care for students in this course and that doesn't show up to class to simply read aloud extracts from the book. Her classes are plagued with fun facts and cool videos. Her slides are nicely illustrated and to the point, study those and you will ace her exam.
I have had Castro for Biol203 and Biol242. She was a godsend for 203 - the only professor that made slides instead of taking the ones from McGraw. Biol242 though, she was awful. Totally changed the schedule halfway through the class so a lot of people submitted late. Made an exam worth 40% of a hands-on lab class. Don't understand her rationale.
Her thick accent makes her lectures very difficult to understand. Her lecture slides/notes however are very helpful.
Dr. Castro is a nice lady. She gave me back points on an exam one time and gives us the content she is taking exam questions from, so no pointless studying, She is hard to understand but her lecture notes make up for it. She is not the greatest by any means but she is nice, and better than other lecturers for this course.
It's obvious that Dr. Castro knows a lot about anatomy and wants her students to have the same depth of knowledge, which reflects in the exams. Compared to the other lecturer her exams are way more in depth asking for the most minuscule details. I had a 95 before she was the lecturer and now I'm praying for a B-. Also I can't understand her AT ALL.
cant understand. grade drop from a b+ to c- when she took over.
She has an extremely heavy Spanish accent, but my biggest problem is during lectures, she only has photos and very little words that actually explain the concepts on the exams. It requires a lot of insinuating and not knowing what the concepts are even if there are descriptive photos and diagrams, but she doesn't explain the material to us well.
She cares so much about all of her students and very willing to help!
I loved having Dr. Castro. She took over in the second half of the semester. While the content is harder, it is not her fault. She clearly tells you what will be on exams. She provides many study resources and test examples. Interesting lectures with videos. She is extremely knowledgeable! You will be required to work hard in this course.
Her notes are very helpful and she also cares about all her students!
Castro was a breath of fresh air; her lectures were content-dense and a little more complex with respect to the material itself, but she was consistent in her provision of supplementary videos, mnemonics for memorization, and annotations of the textbook. Made time to help students and provided condensed notes. Fair exam questions; highly recommend!
Did not enjoy Castro's section of the class. The lecture slides were very messy and hard to read. She says exams reflect lecture slides, but they are so overbearing it is impossible to know everything. Is approachable though and responds to emails. Often blames students for problems instead of herself though.
I had a harder time with the class once Castro became the main lecturer. She condenses so much information into a note packet that could not be more disorganized and confusing. She would pull the smallest details from her lectures and expect us to remember them word for word on exams. You really have to put the work in to get a solid grade.
Castro has a very thick accent, lectures are packed full of content, and recorded lectures have no captions, so almost impossible to understand. When emailed about grades, she put the blame on students for not coming to class, and says that all the info you need for exams is on her slides. VERY DIFFICULT exams, with specific, long questions.
Dr. Castro is a great professor. Her section of the semester covers harder material, but that's not her fault. All of the exam material comes straight from her lecture slides, and she puts a lot of effort into giving her students helpful study strategies. She really cares a lot about your success, you will just have to put in a lot of effort.
Castro is a top-notch lecturer whose investment in her students' learning is undeniably clear. Exams are written directly from lecture notes, which break down topics into understandable sequences. She provides useful review material to students and directly indicates topics that may be included on an exam. Using her review material pays dividends!
Despite what people may say about the BIOL 203/204 courses in general, Castro is great. As long as you actually watch her lectures and take notes on them, review them the week leading up to the exam and focus on what's bolded/highlighted/in red print, and utilize the review resources she provides, you're almost guaranteed to do decently on exams.
Dr. Castro's educational materials are top-notch. I have never seen such organized and detailed slides before. The examples Dr. Castro provides in class are so helpful to understand the material. She makes it so easy to comprehend the most difficult concepts.
Dr. Castro is so good that I am planning to take more courses with her in the future. She is an amazing teacher! The videos Dr. Castro plays during classes help a lot to understand the key concepts of the course. She is very engaging and caring.
Dr. Castro is super nice and helps a lot during office hours. The questions on her exams are fair and easy to understand. I really appreciated that she does not try to trick her students, but instead tests their knowledge and comprehension of the material.
She is the other lecturer for the second half of the class and she is very thorough through her lectures. She has a heavy accent, but accommodates for that by also including AI-generated lectures. She bases her exams on her lectures and not the textbook. She creates student notes and flashcards that are easy to understand for each lecture.
Generally just a really great professor. She is very easy to communicate with and really cares about ensuring that the students do well, and it reflects in the way she prepares students for exams. Sometimes her accent makes her difficult to understand but she more than makes up for it by going out of her way to post her lectures with voiceovers.
She offered so many ways to prepare for the exams including flashcards reviewing lecture material. Sometimes her thick accent was a little difficult to hear but the majority of the time it was easy to follow along. Her exams only came from the material on her slides and she did not use the textbook. Great lecturer overall.
THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY GRADE! After Brent, I thought I was going to fail, but Dr. Castro was an incredible lecturer. I got Ds and Cs on previous exams but received B+s on Castros! Everything you need to know is on her slides and flashcards. Although she is a great lecturer, HER CONTENT IS STILL HARD so you do need to put in effort.
Dr. Castro cares so much about the success of her students. When she comes in halfway through the semester, I notice a dramatic improvement of my exam scores. She provides numerous resources to help study and master exam content.
I didn't talk to her much, but the lectures and materials she provided were very helpful. The exams are difficult but conquerable, and the labs and recitations are fair. Overall, she challenges you well and makes sure you don't drown when the going gets tough.
Dr. Castro is a great professor who cares a ton about the success of her students. BIOL204 and BIOL203 are pretty difficult courses, but Dr. Castro provides amazing resources and lectures that are extremely helpful. Her slides, flashcards, and other resources make this class possible, but allocating enough time to study before exams is key.
She has no heart. No matter how much you try to explain a situation to her she will only keep saying no. Like she is literally a robot. That is the best way to describe her. She talks, emails and even laughs like a robot. As if she has no soul to like actually listen to a student and care for what they are going through and what they have to say.
Dr. Castro is one of the best teachers I've ever had, period. All of her exam questions come straight off of her lecture slides. They are kind of messy, but very informative. Only downside was her accent, but you get used to it. I would just recommend memorizing the lecture slides. Truly wants each student to learn. Cannot recommend her enough!
This is the only teacher that has given resources for an exam. She provides flashcards with legit copy/paste questions from the exam. She may be hard to understand sometimes, but she's very knowledgeable and good at teaching. Love her
Dr. Castro was one of the sweetest professors I've had on campus. I took both 203 and 204 with her and it's clear she definitely cares about student's success. Her slides are very easy to read and follow, she posts extra study materials such as flashcards. Her lecture recordings also have subtitles!
Castro will give you everything you need to know for your exams, so if you use her resources there is no way to not get an A :).
I can't understand why anyone says she is uncaring. This woman put in SO MUCH effort to make this class as easy as possible and accessible as possible. She even fought with the department to stop them from requiring a huge expensive textbook. She hand-makes SO MANY resources and is so kind. Only downside is the thick accent, but you get used to it.
Talks in Spanish the whole time. Sits behind her desk during lecture and just reads off slide.
She is the most caring professor I've had so far. She cares so much about giving people as much study material as possible. People should be embarrassed to fail this class because she gives SO much stuff to study plus extra credit for each exam.
She is difficult to understand for some (like me) because of her heavy Spanish accent. She provides a lot of outside resources though to help you learn the content. She is passionate about her job and what she teaches. She cares about her students and their success.
This professor is difficult to understand, but the more you attend lectures, the easier it gets. She provides extra credit for each exam, and has unlimited homework attempts. She provides a ton of study materials and exams are questions made from those materials. It is not too hard to get an A if you study properly.
While she is very difficult to understand, her lectures are beautiful and she gives you every opportunity to succeed in her class. Her resources are INSANELY good. This class is tough and rigorous, but if you study and do your part there is no reason why you will do bad. Just stay on top of your stuff and between that and Castro, you'll be fine.
Dr. Castro's course is so well organized and has so many resources available for students. For each lecture, she has flashcards, learning modules, and lecture videos explaining the content. All exam questions come from her lecture slides. She cares so much about her student's success, and makes very difficult content easily digestible.
Professor Castro might be a hard to understand at first, but you can adjust and understand her more as the semester progresses. She provides so many resources to succeed and always makes her office hours clear. I recommend showing up to lectures and using all of her outside resources because she makes it very easy to succeed.
Professor Castro has an extremely heavy accent. Lectures will not help you succeed in this class. However, Professor Castro does have great resources on Brightspace for students to access. They are very helpful for exams, but it will take at least 15 hours to study for an exam because you must have all the information on the slides memorized.
"You get what you put in." This is an extremely challenging course but Castro does an amazing job providing resources. I'd recommend attending the lectures (even tho she has a thick accent - it's easier to understand the more you go). She's fought to make this course less challenging w/ her department. Overall I think she's an amazing professor.
She works really hard to ensure all students have what they need to succeed. Only downside is her accent is very thick and hard to understand at times. She creates an entire online practice program that helps you prepare for exams and provides them at a very cheap cost. She is pretty great although the course is very hard, so study rigorously.
Tends to reads of slides, but provided many resources to prepare for tests. I did have to put in a lot of time out of class to be successfulz
Castro is an excellent professor. Sometimes she tends to read through slides fast, but she provides so many resources for her exams. There are even flash cards which are helpful. The exams had medium level difficulty, but if you do the practice exams and prepare then they aren't awful.
Anatomy and physiology is in general hard! Lots of memorization but Castro gives lots of resources. Use her slides and flashcards, they are basically word for word on the tests! Homework and learning modules do help. Labs aren't hard, ask TAs about questions. Lab quizzes and prelabs every week. She does have an accent so hard to understand.
Dr. Castro cares a lot about her students and provides detailed resources to help them prepare for exams. Test questions are only based on slideshow content, and she makes online flashcards from her slideshows. If you have a good knowledge of the flashcards, you will get a 100% on every exam.
Amazing Prof. Super flexible and has devoted a lot of effort into providing students with so many free study resources. Exams are very fair and the homework helps provides you with a nice introduction and overview of the topics discussed in lecture. Labs can be a little annoying but if you get a good partner you'll be fine.
Dr. Castro's note's provide everything you need to do well on exams(no suprises). As long as you put in the effort you can get a good grade in the class.
She is such a great professor that really wants to see you succeed in class. She provides so many resources to help you study and is just so caring.
Castro has an INCREDIBLY thick accent, but she organizes her course extremely well and provides lots of resources. Study the flashcards, sit at the front to hear her best, and ask your lab grader to check over your reports. Lab quizzes are incredibly difficult, and the study material does not really help. The homework and lab reports are free.
She does have a thick accent but she has so many resources which makes it relatively east to study.
Castro has put a lot of effort into this course to make it organized. The course has very clear guidelines. If you study and know the slides, you will get As on all the midterms. While there is a lot of content to cover, the information is interesting and prepares well for familiarity on exams like the MCAT.
Professor Castro is amazing! Her slides are super helpful and she explains everything in a way that actually makes sense. I used her flashcards to study and they saved me. 10/10 would take her again!
Professor Castro was exceptional in that her way of teaching was genuinely interesting and funny. Despite her accent, her lectures/slides were clear, entertaining, and extremely helpful for studying, along with all of the other resources she provides to study. 2nd semester is def harder than 1st, but she ensures it stays interesting.
Anatomy and physiology is inherently a hard class because it is so content-dense, but Dr. Castro provides a lot of resources for students to be successful; you just have to be willing to put in the time and effort.
Difficult to understand. Test scores improved after I quit going to lecture. The best way to succeed and prepare for exams is to use resources provided by Dr. Castro. The study resources are helpful; however, there are too many.
Her lectures may be hard to follow but, where she lacks in her lecturing she makes up for it in providing a TON of helpful resources in order to keep students prepared. Homework is well put together and engaging with lecture notes, plenty of helpful study tools as well like notecards and the learning modules. Great job with material out of class.
Amazing and very smart woman. She has a very strong accent, but she becomes easier to understand the more you attend the lecture. She provides numerous resources for exams. Incredible professor.
She can be difficult to understand but she posts lecture videos so you can always rewatch those. The tests are exactly the slides and easy to comprehend and she gives a lot of resources. Very kind and understanding
This professor is super hard to understand but that is probably the only negative thing I can say about her and this class. The class is hard but the prof gives TONS of practice problems/flashcard opportunities to learn material. Lab 1000% better than chem or bio lab. Recitation is annoying but doable.
She's pretty hard to understand but her resources for this class are great. Labs are a lot more tolerable than other classes. Recitation has an unusually large class size but it's not too bad. Just use her resources and you should be able to get an A or at least a high B in the class.
Dr. Castro was the perfect professor for the way I learn. She does have an accent, but the more you attend lecture the easier it is to follow along with her. Homework follows the notes nearly exactly and there is SO MUCH review material for exams. She's very easy to contact outside of class and office hours were incredibly helpful.
Dr Castro is nice but I fear I relied and got help from the TAs and SI instructors more than her. She is very kind but her lectures are kind of hard to understand.
Great Professor!
I attended almost every single lecture and sit in the front and I still find it near impossible to understand what she is saying every class. Her lectures are also super disorganized at times and I have to take notes before class cause she always makes too many slides. Lots of good resources for exams, which aren't hard. Homework is posted late.
Castro is a very nice professor. In class, she includes extra slides that help us students with understanding/memorizing the material. The big three for exams to help with studying: lecture videos, micro learning modules, and past exams/notecards. Overall, she's a good person+ really is trying to help. Just lock in cause it's a lot of information.
Dr. Castro is one of the most effective professors I have ever had. Lots claim that she is hard to understand, but I disagree. I have never had a problem understanding her, and even if you do find her pronunciation hard to follow, the words are on the slides. Microlearning modules and Quizlet are the best combo for exams! Easy and fun labs.
Castro's class can be intimidating the first week. However, if you use the material she created for this class specifically, there should be no reason why you should fail the class. She can be hard to understand in lectures, but it doesn't make the content impossible to learn. Put the time in the class and easy A
This class can be intense, but Dr. Castro explains everything super clearly and always connects concepts in a way that actually sticks. She also gives great, practical tips on how to study and prepare for exams, which honestly makes a huge difference. If you go to office hours or ask questions, she genuinely helps.
Professor Castro is hard to understand in lecture, I feel as if the lecture slides are a disorganized mess. There are 5 exams with no exam drops or replacements and quizzes before every lab. I will say there are a lot of extra resources to study for exams but you are forced to do extra material in order to unlock the following week in Brightspace.
Castro is a very nice person, but get ready to study day and night for this class. I'm not a very good test taker and thats what matters a lot in this class. VERY hard to understand her lectures. If you put in time and effort in the class you should be ok, but it was very hard to focus on other classes while taking this one because it is so much.
Very nice and clearly a caring professor. She can be hard to understand at times, but she does her best to make what is a very dense class as manageable as possible. (Practice exams are incredibly helpful and the key to doing well)
Watch lecture online, attendance isn't mandatory. Drill the lectures and practice quizzes before exams. No textbook. Use quizlets folders already made online. Lab is super interesting. Assignments are all reasonable and doable.
Dr. Castro's lectures can sometimes feel difficult to understand due to the volume of content. However, using the configurable flashcards provided before exams helped solidify the information. She gives a lot of resources to help the info stick. Dr. Castro is a great professor! Lab is interesting, but Lisa Kolo unfortunately controls it.
Gives so many resources to succeed, had an 8:30 lecture that was empty, but I thought going to lecture was helpful. Use the flashcards, lecture notes, and practice exams to study. Labs were boring and repetitive but did not take that long. 5 exams but the class is not cumulative, so it ends up being not too much information for each exam.
Great professor. Does a good job at organizing the course and providing extensive amounts of resources for students to self-study Be sure to get all the easy points like doing the HW, recitation, and lab/pre-lab assignments. Lots of content covered in exams, but def manageable with 3-4 days of studying. No reason this class shouldn't be an A.
