I took her the very first time she was teaching and she is very nice and helpful. She is very modern with the materials that she teaches. Her practicums are hard, but her exams are easy. As long as you do the work, it's very easy to get an A/B.
She is very structured with her class, so you know what you are doing and so forth. Read all she gives you and study. It is probably a more fun and interesting class than other life sciences if you are a social science major.
Ms. Floyd is actually a pretty easy teacher if you follow her directions. Most people in my class failed because they didn't follow her study instructions. If she gives you a handout study it. It will be on the test. She can come across as angry. But overall she's fair. She knows the subject matter. She likes the subject matter.

Boring lecture; half dropped because horrible first test. only 2 people got A in first test and under 10 people out of 30 passed the test. have to attend on lecture because u will get assignments on almost every week.
Very hard tests. you need to memorize the text book! Need to read, read, and read.
her tests are so hard! half of the lecture is on the test and the other half you have to read in the book that she DOESN'T COVER!!! but she is a nice person...not the easiest teacher in the world. a lot of people dropped the class.
Don't ever take her CLASS!! its the worst mistake i've ever made...she is very structured, but theres only 1 person who got A on the test..Some other class doesnt even have anyone who got A! on the first test, the class average was F. if u wanna get an A in this class, you gotta memorize the whole textbook and lecture notes. also very BORING CLASS!
hard tests and boring lectures... dont take this class because it is physically exhausting and there are better teachers out there. she's a sweetheart but needs to have more passion and better methods of teaching for the subject. (by the way, I'm getting an A...)
worst teacher in cypress. Dont take her

She is a GREAT TEACHER. These other comments are by lazy students who don't want to work. If you want to learn and do some work you will do fine in her class. She is also very nice to all her students!
I agree with the last person. Ms. Floyd is a fantastic teacher... she just thinks college students should do college level work. She loves anthro and it shows. Her lectures and videos are interesting. Exams are very challenging, but fair. Take notes, pay attention and read the book and articles. She's really sweet too!
Great teacher, passionate about subject. Lectures are easy to follow. Quizzes and tests are fair. A lot to learn, but you'll do fine as long as you go to class, keep up with the reading, and study the notes.
At first this class sounded like the easy way out from Bio or Chem. Let me tell you, its def. not! Its way too hard. I am a good student, I am not lazy at all and I am working my ass off to pass right now..... My advice is take something or someone else. Save yourself the headache that me and more than half of my classmates share.
No way! Ms. Floyd is way cool! If you can't pass this class you ARE lazy and if you ever thought you were a good student you're lying to yerself!!
Easy class and the tests aren't hard at all. I think the only people who did bad are probably just lazy.
Tougher class from what you would expect from an introductory class. However, Floyd is really passionate about her stuff and demands the best from her students. Expect to do some work for her, which inevitably causes one to learn a lot, and the A is definitely feasible.
At first I wasn't sure about Becky, but as the semester went on I began to like and respect her more and more. She truly loves anthropology and it shows in her teaching. However, a lot of people did VERY poorly in this class. Even though it may seem easier than other sciences, if you're lazy or stupid you won't pass. The material is awesome!

Extremely easy multiple choice tests. Or maybe it's me, I don't know, but it didn't take much effort to Ace them. I usually cramp all those information an hour before class starts. There were about 4 to 5 tests. I got 100% on 2 of the tests and A's on the others. Overall, her class was pretty chilled.
Her lectures are clear but her tests are a bit tough. Nothing some studying cant fix. She is passionate about her subject and is kind. Project is what you make of it (mine was unforgettable). Overall an enjoyable class..just study!
I really didn't like this teacher. She speaks to people in a really abrasive way. She expects too much from her students. You have three exams, weekly quizzes, five research papers, a group project on top of attending class. Would not take her again.
hard and very time consuming, but you learn a lot.
Professor Floyd is awesome. She was very nice, and intelligent. The class was a bit difficult but if you do all the work and the extra credit you will pass. Personally, I barely passed but I didn't do all of the work. READ ALL OF THE ARTICLES or they'll come back to bite you in the butt. She is very passionate about her subject and will help you!
she is a good professor. i took her class because i did not want to take biology for my lab. she is a fair grader. 3 exams, 3 practicums, 13 quizzes from articles (read them!), 5 papers & a project. not too hard. my only advice is to take time out & study, especially for the labs! her lectures are awesome & grab your attention. you'll learn alot!
She is a very passionate instructor, she loves her work & is knowledgeable about anthropology. Overall she is a good instructor, but she is also rude & doesn’t respect peoples’ opinions. She thinks that she is always right & puts students down. If I had to take ANTH 102 again, I most definately WOULD NOT take it with her again.
She was not very flexible with issues. Blackboard was having issues and three of my assignments did not get recorded. When i submitted it said complete, when i noticed i didnt get a grade i asked. Her response to do the extra credit. she was rude, not understanding at all.
A+! changed to anth major!
What you can expect if you take this online is a LOT of reading, many discussion board posts, watching videos, and hard tests even though it's open book. This course is very demanding of your time. Professor Floyd teaches as if everyone in the class is an ANT major and has no life. I got an A but it wasn't easy at all. Just be prepared for it.
Very condescending. Also graded my paper improperly - I had to have her check it again because I knew I was correct! Her aide seemed to know the bones better than she did. When she came around to see how everyone was doing (there was no real lecture!), she had to think about the bones and even look in the book sometimes!
Professor Floyd perspective is that online classes don't have to be easy, so she made tests incomprehensible. She loads people of work, harrasses you with emails, she invents new criterias in judging papers there were not there before. She ruined my GPA by giving me a B. Don't take her class if you want to keep your grades high.
I took the online class and let me just say that she is truly an astounding teacher. She definitely knows her stuff and WANTS us to learn. The only difficulty I've found in her class are the discussion boards because they need to be PRECISE, ACCURATE, and DETAILED if you want to get full credit.
No, she is not easy. Why should school be easy? Do not take a class with her unless you want to learn, you WILL learn with her. If you're having problems with the material ask for her help! She's incredibly helpful and very involved in her classes. She puts other online instructors to shame. She's an amazing teacher and I've learned so much.
I took Bio Anthro with this teacher about a year ago. I was an Anthropology major at the time and if you are an Anthro major, take her. You will learn a lot. I thought the class was going to be hard, but in the end I receieved an A! If you attend class, you receive so many points. She is not hard. Study for her midterm and final. You'll be fine!
Took this class online. Site was set up well, but the tests were awful. They were 1 question at a time with no backtracking, which means you could spend 5-10 min looking for an answer as there is no way to go back. This isn't a big deal if you study, but questions can be so specific that you might turn to your book for help & lose a lot test time.
Great teacher! Extremely helpful and crystal clear. Anybody who doesn't like her obviously isn't doing their part and studying. The class is difficult, but she provides great study guides that if you actually do them, are really helpful. Take her!
took this class online. VERY time consuming. got an A but it was difficult to pull off. DO extra credit!!!
Prof Floyd isn't easy, but I didn't' come to college to get spoon fed infromation like a baby, either. I enjoyed this class, and would sign up for another. I think the recent posters are just slackers who didn't do the work.
I hadn't been in school in 2 years. I got a D on my first test due to my own lack of studying. Instead of being bummed, I turned it around and with extra credit, I was able to pull off an A. You get study guides that are clear - use them!!! This is what helped me get an A. She expects alot out of you, but in the end it is worth it & you learn
All these other students are just plain lazy. She never lets a question go unanswered and though she expects a lot of you, it's your responsibility to study so you can do well. She's amazing!!!!!
I was really worried about this class at first, but Professor Becky made it really fun. I would definitely take her again if I could. Just do your work and study, and she'll meet you halfway.
Easiest A ever. took this online this summer. have regular conversations on the discussion board and you'll be fine. some of the reading is tedious, but most of it is entertaining. you get to take the quizes twice, so you can copy and past the questions to make sure you get them right. tests weren't that bad. overall, easy a.
Professor Becky Floyd was nothing but nice and helpful. As long as you do the reading ,take the quizzes and do the discussions, you will be fine. I think she is cool but more than that, the book (s) that she selects are awesome. They are straight forward and you don't have to make inferences, the information is all there to be absorbed.
Professor Floyd is very helpful, but the only thing I really don't like about the class is the fact that she does a lot of online work, which makes getting the assignments done harder.
Mrs. Floyd is a pretty cool teacher. She's very helpful as well. Lots of work for her class! I took her online class we had 2 DB's a week, quizzes, midterm, final and a book review. I would recommend taking her class.
Professor Floyd's really helpful. She's really nice too and pretty funny. She's willing to help you out and her quizzes are online which is pretty cool. Her tests aren't bad just review her study guides. I'm taking her right now, she's cool. I recommend her, and she has nice eyes
Loves what she teaches
I took her online class and it was very very hard. Ive taken many many online classes and her course was the only course where i did NOT get an A. even if you do the extra credit you have to be lucky to pull an A. 2 reading and writing assignments a week 5 quizes and 2 exams. you have to read a lot of articles and watch a lot of tedious videos.
Good teacher, ok class. Read the books before the test and you should do good. its a lab class so the teacher doesnt really do anything beside set up the labs, but she will gladly help anyone who asks a question.
Loves what she teaches. Very easy class and she is easy to get a hold of. Take her if you want to learn interesting information without being bored to death. She also has audio lectures you can save to your mp3 players.
Easy!
Boring class (have to attend or will be dropped)... quizzes are ridiculously hard and full of BS(too much reading) ...Would not recommend (trust ill be saving you time and the grade) class ruined my 4.0!!
The online class was a waste of time and i do not think the teacher should get payed for it. she did nothing except for read and grade the final assignment. i want my money back
I took her online Witchcraft, Magic & Religion class. The content was very interesting, there was a ton of reading to do and the quizzes were based on the stories read, not the content of the main lessons. The class is a lot more difficult than I had anticipated and you definitely need to stay on top of things. Overall a good class!
take prof. janaki instead...shes more helpful and clear. got an A in her class compared to a D in floyd'c class. In Prof. Floyds class got Cs and Bs on the test but not so good on the quizzes but did extra credit and still didnt pass me... SHES SUKS at teaching the material and she is in charge of this department!!!!
If you are thinking of taking her for summer online, then STOP NOW! You're on your own if you decide to take her. YOU have to learn everything by reading the book, and it's a A LOT to read. Quizzes are fairly difficult, but tests are ridiculous. Unless you are REALLY good at studying on your own, don't take her!!!!
She is an extremely hard grader. The only easy grades you can receive from this class is from attendance, everything else is ridiculously difficult. But she is an excellent teacher with a passion for what she teaches. Getting an A is possible, although it may not seem like it. Take this class if you want to be challenged or want to actually learn.
This class is not hard. She just grades VERY hard. I think her kid must be keeping her up because she grades essays very harshly. She thinks B's are acceptable. To me, I think she thinks the seven year plan is acceptable. Even if this is your only class class semester, you WILL get a B. Good luck, you have been warned.
Prof Floyd is an extremely hard grader. She thinks B's are acceptable and sees no problem in getting them. You will get a B or less no matter how hard you try. Her lectures are straight from the power point and at times lectures get very dull. Her room is cold so bring a jacket. She does not allow laptop use which would help greatly on notes.
do not take this teacher. SOOO much reading you can't keep up if you are full time. Online discussion boards she won't even give full credit for. Tests and quizzes are very hard.
HARD..HARD..VERY HARD!!! TOO MUCH WORK AND READING!!
This is a college class. Yes there is work, but it is an excellent class with an excellent and knowledgeable professor. One of the best teachers at Cypress College.
I was really looking forward to this class, even petitioned for it. Exams are difficult and do not seem to have very much to do with the textbooks that she's required. If you take this class pay special attention to the power points and do not expect to get anything above a B. This is a very difficult course and honestly I didn't really enjoy it.
Lost of interesting facts to learn, hard grader.
The instructor expects much much more from her students than from herself.
I really like this teacher. If you dont do the work youre not going to pass. Shes super helpful and is very clear in her lectures. This class can be really fun if you dont slack off
extremely interesting class! (her forensic anthropology) She is really nice, helpful, and dorky.
She was a good teacher! Shes a little hard at grading but her tests are really easy, and the essays are relatively easy too. The only thing that was sorta lame was that we watched proabably 5 or more whole classes worth of movies and you have to pay attention to take notes because she grades them.
Didn't like her at first, but really enjoyed her class by the end. She cracks jokes and can be quirky and fun, however you can't slack off in this class. She keeps you on your toes but nothing is THAT difficult if you just do it. A lot of the work is simply participation (video notes/attendance). READ for the online quizzes. Tests weren't too bad.
Interesting class. As long as you attend class and pay attention you should be fine. Got a B and I didn't even buy the books required for the class. She gives online quizzes, which I completely bombed since you actually had to read the book to get the answers. But, as long as you do well on the tests and show up to class during the movies, you good
Do not take this class if you need any accommodations. She does not respond to emails and is rarely available ever. If you love antropology, find another teacher. This one has NO ROOM for human error.
I took her online class over the summer. There were discussion questions due every day, but she was very anal when it came to grading and liked docking off points here and there for no reason. The quizzes and tests are directly out of the textbooks so make sure you do your reading diligently. Overall, this class was challenging, yet fair.
What a wonderful professor and a wonderful person. The class was very interesting. Yes you have to work, but you learn a lot!
I had an online class - Floyd is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I don't understand the negative comments. She was super helpful, the workload was fairly easy, and the material was actually interesting. Read the book, and do everything on time, you'll have no problems.
She is an AMAZING teacher! As long as you do your work you'll be golden! Her lectures are clear and straight forward as well as interesting. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher! The work is not difficult as long as you read the material. Great Teacher! :)
Lectures are great. Not too hard but you have to study for the online quizzes. Offers extra credit which a lot of professors don't.
I like this professor so much. She gave the class interesting lectures as well as their audios. Her voice is beautiful. She offered a lot of extra credits. She is sophisticated. The exams are hard. The online quizzes are time-demanding. I had to study hard but enjoyed the class. In general, Prof. Floyd is an excellent teacher.
Okay so this class is REALLY DIFFICULT not because of Professor Floyd, she understands this class has alot of hard concepts and teaches at a really good pace and makes the harder concepts alot easier to understand. I wouldnt recommend this course unless ur comfortable w/ the teacher. Take it with Floyd, be prepared for a ton of group work.
Second time taking her, Floyd was awesome yet again. Easy to contact and communicate with, gives interesting material, it's a little hard but atleast you learn something. You can tell she really cares about anthropology and her students. Highly recommend Floyd!!
If you're expecting and easy class this is definitely not one you can breeze by. Text book reading is a must if not do no expect to pass any quizzes. Make sure you are on time, She will lock students out especially fishes showing a movie or show that requires notes.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!! She is super nice and sweet but her exams are crazy hard, timed and set-up for you to fail! This class requires all your time, major reading that you’re not tested on! I would not recommend her to my enemy!
Sucks up all your time. there is so much reading to do. the quizzes are based off the reading in one book and the tests are based off her lectures and reading from another book(I didn't buy this one) the class isn't difficult but I hate that I cant get work done ahead of time of even have a full to do the discussions. there is a ton of extracredit
she is a GREAT teacher, she absolutely loves the stuff she teaches about. The class is really interesting, but there is a LOT of reading. If you're someone who usually gets around without studying too hard, this is not the class for you. But she is definitely my favorite teacher. The tests are pretty hard though.
A wonderful professor. She expects you do your work and act like an adult, but if you do all that then you will get a lot out of her class. Makes Anthropology very interesting.
Major part of your grade: being there and participating. I failed every quiz and got B's on the midterm and final and still got an A. Do the extra credit museum/zoo thing and you'll be solid. The study guide is the test exactly so go to her office hours and ask her to check your answers (she's a bit sassy but it's all good).
She assigned biweekly quizzes based on the most boring and useless articles ever. No matter how many times you read the articles you'll still get questions asking about the most abstract detail. Tests aren't too hard as long as you study the study guides provided.
I've taken Prof. Floyd before for ANTH 107 and I loved her, so I thought I'd take her again for ANTH 105, Anthropology of Language and Culture/Intro to Linguistics. I hated the class. There is a ridiculous amount of work involved and so much group work you'll want to tear your hair out. I HIGHLY recommend the professor but NOT the class.
Took her for summer anth101, I leaned so much in such a short time. Be prepared to READ, other than that- I showed up every day, did the extra credit, and walked away with an A.
Excellent teacher. I got an A in this class. Not sure why she has some negative comments on here. You read required chapters or articles you should be fine on quizzes and exams. Lots of bonus points too from assignments and an extra credit assignment for Museum of Man, SD Zoo, or LA Zoo (pick one). Emails back fast. Digital awards given also at end
She is very nice and helpful. The homework is consistent as the course material flows fluently. Taking one of P. Floyd's online classes takes commitment as she is strict with her due dates. She makes you use a website called VoiceThread and recommends you to make audiovideo comments weekly. She offers A TON of extra credit opportunities.
Gives 20 pt extra credit for museum, and another maximum 20 pt extra credit for optional online article quiz. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE! Clear & concise (no surprises). Knows what she's talking about & is passionate about her field. Attendance matters, especially for in-class lab and video note-taking days. Lectures can be a bit droning but it's OK.
She was so awesome in ANTH 101 that I took her again for Lab. She is the most organized & efficient professor I've ever had. The syllabus has a calendar that tells what will be covered in every day of class so there's no surprises. The tests aren't hard if you use the study guides and study in advance. Take advantage of the extra credit.
DEFINITELY need to attend class! For this particular class, she assigns a semester long project and every day you don't show up, it's 5 pts off your project which really adds up! Her tests are easy if you read and study; I messed up my first test because I didn't study. Other two were a breeze though. She's a funny lady; I recommend taking this!
Professor Floyd is an organized teacher however, her biweekly quizzes are boring. You have to read 13 articles and I completely failed each one. There are 3 exams- super easy, and tons of in class assignment. She's a hard grader and attendance matters. This class should be at least worth 4 unit. Won't be taking her again.
Weekly quizzes and two exams. The workload is not bad and the test is what's on the study guide. Her lectures are a bit monotone and boring, but bearable. She gives extra credit on her exams and 20 pt extra credit for going to the zoo or museum.
Professor is quite boring. Must listen to lectures and make sure to pass all her article quizzes because the points add up exams are somewhat based off of the study guide. Good luck fam oh and remember to read to textbook!
14 quizzes, 3 major exams, and 1 group project. Prof Floyd is an amazing teacher, she makes you work for your grade. Follow the syllabus and study guide because it will help you. There are 50 points total for extra credit; that's a lot if you ask me! Interesting class; I suggest that everyone make flash cards ahead of time to memorize the notes.
Becky is a great teacher. She is very does give a lot of extra credit so don't pass it up! One discussion board, one quiz and one three point extra credit assignment every week. The mid term and final are a bit challenging so make sure you read ALL ASSIGNED CHAPTERS. She responds to emails in a well timed manner. I recommend her.
She is one of the Worst teachers that you could be trusting. Please do not be fooled by her positive attitude. You won't see any of it after the drop deadline. 13 hard quizzes (25+) Questions. VERY VERY long weekly Discussions You need to do 2 topics and it is a total of (1000+ WORDS). YOU will be glad if you avoided her. please do so at any cost.
She is very knowledgeable and passionate about her field, however, her lectures are very long and boring. Treats classroom like high school etiquette. Offers TONS of extra credit, so make sure to take advantage! She definitely makes you work for your grade.
She is very egotistical professor, the kind that will give you nightmares at night, just because she has this air of "if you die, that's fine with me". She does not understand that as students, we are paying her to teach us, and that she should treat us with respect. DO NOT TAKE HER. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. You will be glad you did!
She is very clear about what to expect in class. There is lots of homework and reading. She does give you credit if you tried but answered a question wrong. There is a semester long project to do. She does not accept anything late. She is very knowledgeable. She tossed someone's lunch once. Her defense always seems high but she is actually nice.
Fun class. Lectures are important and you must take notes on everything she says bc it will be on the tests. Lots of movies and documentaries, but all are really interesting and relevant to class material. Online homework is due once a week. 1 group project. Textbook is a must. 3 tests. Just follow her rules and this class will be great.
The class was interesting, but her tests were difficult. Attendance was mandatory, and there was lots of reading.
Excessive work!
Prof Floyd never gives the opportunity for students to provide input so if you enjoy being interactive in class, perhaps keep looking. Professor Floyd also goes off sometimes, really randomly. All of the sudden, she will like scream at a student and then go back as if nothing ever happened. Class subject matter is great, though. Floyd, not so much.
Professor Floyd is a very straight forward professor. Her syllabus lists everything she expects throughout the class, and rarely diverts from her set calendar. Most of class time is spent in lecture with some small labs and videos. The tests are challenging but the material is interesting so it's not difficult to excel. Extra Credit is also offered
I took Floyd online last semester for her 8 week course. Boy, did I work my butt off. She was a tough grader but I learned a lot. There is a ton of work and quizzes twice a week. I worked out of 2 different text books. There is also a lot reading and writing. If you skip any work you will not pass. I'd take her again, just be prepared to work.
lectures are long and boring, TAKE NOTES OF EVERYTHING SHE SAYS! Everything on the review including whats she says during lecture is on the test. You have one group presentation, but its pretty simple and fun. Shows a lot of videos, and movies like Star Wars. homework is easy, but articles quizzes are tough but they're not on the test. Fun class!
I am not here to get an easy A but this lady is ridiculous. I believe she tries to be hard just to be that kind of a bad azzz teacher. She selectively responses to students. I think if you are going to welcome 1 student, shouldn't you do for all? This teacher thinks her class is the only one you have. BEWARE
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. I've taken many online classes, and she is by far the most difficult teacher. She basically wants an essay every week for a simple discussion. She posts announcements arrogantly through her use of bold letters and condescending tone. She's definitely egotistical. Avoid this teacher.
Prof. Floyd is a teacher I would be more than happy to learn from again. She's fun and cares for her students and the subject material. Her lectures are to the point and she shows lots of videos. Gives extra credit worth tons of points and is helpful if you don't understand something. knowledgeable and kind
The tests are super hard. I would study and still not pass. There are about ten fill in the blank answers with no word bank
To be fair Professor Floyd knows her material and is passionate about Anthropology. However, her passion does not translate into her lectures. To be successful in this class, you have to put in the effort. Read the material, follow the syllabus and do the extra credit and you will be okay. I learned a lot this semester, and I earned my grade.
I took her condensed online summer course Biological Anthropology. She had everything structured really well which helped a lot as it was a 5 week course. There was significant reading each week but again that was due to the condensed course.
Lots of work! Need the books to pass, the hardest part were the quizzes but if you read the chapter, then you'll pass the quiz. Online class so each quiz was worth 10 points, and only one chance at it. There is extra credit which helps a lot. One midterm and one final, both can be easy. If you're looking for easy to pass, then don't take! NOT easy
I get the feeling Prof. Floyd has negative reviews here because she makes you EARN a good grade. However, if you enjoy learning and having a professor who is obviously passionate about their line of work, you'll like this class. You will have to read quite a bit. There is extra credit, but it won't save you from slacking in other areas.
Do not take her unless you have no choice. She gave me a feedback which does not relate to my discussion board. I could say what she looks is Grammar. I don't know others but she took my point since my grammar is poor. One more, her question on DB isn't narrow. I asked friends to clear the question but no one can answer. I feel happy to say bye
This class is not easy but it is interesting in course matter. Professor Floyd was really nice and won't put up with your funny business. If there's an obnoxious student she will call them out which is great for me because I can't focus otherwise. The tests were hard but if you do the inquisitives for EC you can pass with meh test grades. STUDY!
She gives little to no feedback on what you do wrong, doesn't connect with students, & is condescending. You have to read the chapters & articles before taking the quizzes or else you won't pass. Discussion posts are literally essays, & have a due date of 12pm which sucks if you're a busy person like me. If you want an easy A, look elsewhere.
I have taken many of Prof. Floyd's classes both on campus and online and I can say for sure she is the most organized and knowledgeable instructor. She is passionate about anthropology and really wants students to learn. If you are looking for an easy A, are lazy, late all the time, play on your phone or chit chat, then no, she's not for you.
You could pass the class without the textbook, it's only for extra credit and that's only if you buy the program too. Lots of articles and short videos. She doesn't teach but gives you the resources you'll need to pass. She's unclear on the grading criteria for discussion boards and doesn't help when asked to.
The class itself was really interesting, but if you absolutely hate reading, do not take her class. You read the entire textbook and she kept changing the schedule a couple days before an assignment was due.
It was a hybrid class and only attend once during the week. She just reads off her presentation/ notes. TAKE GOOD NOTES. Only 2 exams including the final. At the end of the semester you need to do a big project and visit a graveyard.
On a scale of 1-10, she rates around a 6; she's fine if you're a decent worker, but don't expect anything above or beyond and don't expect much enjoyment out of the class. Everything is always routine and her teaching style is nothing special. Her personality does nothing to make the class more enjoyable. Don't expect a grade to be bumped up. Ever.
She will not share her slides, so be sure to bring a pencil and paper because you will need to take all of the notes by yourself. Even at times she is going fast, she won't stop for you and she won't repeat things that she already said so be attentive at all times. Show up at all classes and don't miss one lecture day if you want to pass.
Honesty this class was overly hyped for it to turn to a boring, mandatory attendance class. The quizzes were articles that were at 7 Pgs long & she doesnt tell you what you do wrong in your exams & group projects. No feedback & treats her students like theyre children. Dont recommend at all.
Its easy if you attend all the classes and read all the articles
She is the type of professor who has been in the teaching field for a very long time, though she does not look old. She told us a story of how she was once a biology major but then ultimately found her Personal Legend in the field of anthropology in order to encourage us into not being so disappointed if we do not do so well in a particular class.
Dont ever take this class!!!! I studied for the exam off the book and study guide and I knew it like the back of my hand. The exam is created so you will fail! She makes every question based of tiny details she doesnt go over for notes and something you wouldnt even think to study. WORST PROFESSOR EVER. HORRIBLE. IT ISNT INTERESTING
The thing that make this course hard is the article quizzes. They have trick q's on them so they require deep thought. Plus other than reading the textbook, you are required to read 15 page academic articles up to 3 times a week. The first test had only 2 A's and 6 B's and the rest below that. And big study guides are given 1 week before tests.
A lot would say that her class is hard and that they would not take it again but I think they say that because they are not open to a challenge. Since a lot of people would take this class thinking it would be easy because it is about witchcraft, that is the stigma. But this class will take effort.
She is a hard grader. Miss one assignment, and she drops you. Harsh person.
3 Exams and one of them is comprehensive. Study guides for all three exams are given a week before the exam. Study guides are usually about 35 questions long; but the final exam one is longer than 35. Weekly quizzes on academic journals. Extra credit opportunities that actually help your grade. And then some in-class assignments.
I would not recommend taking this course. She makes you read 15-20 pages articles just to answer 10 questions every week. And theyre not even there for you to receive points. Those questions focus on so much details and some of it you cant even find in the articles. Her exam is challenging as well since her lessons arent helpful to study at all
I respect all professors, but I have to be honest, Becky Floyd is extremely difficult. She is super strict with her assignments, tests, etc. Like, I understand that we are college students, but she takes it too far. It's like she has such high expectations that we really can't reach and she doesn't like it.
She's a pretty good professor and she's done a lot for the Anthropology Department as Department Chair. If you just want credit for GE, take 100 level courses and avoid 200 level courses because those courses are designed for anthropology majors in mind who have taken the 100 level course requirement.
I don't want to be super harsh on here but yea idk, I don't think she is a good professor. Maybe it's the way on how she teaches but everything was super unorganized and confusing. I wouldn't recommend taking her class unless you have LOTS of knowledge on Forensics Anth. or time throughout the semester. More than half of the class struggled lol :/
If you can take a different class dont take this class. There is quizzes every single week and you have to read 20 pages & she expects you to know every small detail. She is a tough professor and you would think she would be more understanding but shes not. I just dont agree with how she goes about things personally.
Professor Floyds forensic anthropology class was literally the hardest class I have ever taken. I only managed to pass because of the extra credit, but EVERYONE failed EVERY exam. I WISH i was exaggerating. She does not curve exams and makes you do a million assignments for EC that arent worth too much. Do your work and dont miss assignments!
Professor Floyd as a teacher is very knowledgeable, her lectures were very interesting and interactive, she's always open to answering questions. However grades are based on test scores, and tests are a mix of lecture notes and book readings, but was very confusing and tough to keep up with the lecture and the book reading and tie both together.
Professor Floyd is tough but you learn a lot. She is friendly and extremely organized. I've taken several of her classes and changed my major because of her. She is a good teacher.
took her witchcraft class online. it was so interesting. Very hard because there was a lot of material but I learned so much. hardest class I've taken there's homework every week and lots of reading but it has been my favorite class I've ever taken ! Just do All the assignments on time and you'll pass.
So she actually doesn't assign homework, but assigns a lot of quizzes that are based on articles. Overall there were 13 article quizzes, and were worth 10 points each. However, there are 2 questions of fill in the blank, so you really have to read it and take notes because cheating is not an option (trust me, I tried) AND THERE IS EXTRA CREDIT TOO
She definitely doesnt give second chances for missing a day or even forgetting a scantron
part 1. Becky Floyd is the most patronizing and condescending professor Ive ever had the displeasure of encountering. Its true, you can pass her class-its fairly simple. Lets disregard her expectations of grad student effort despite this course being an intro. Just plan on ONLY taking her class (she loves effort!), or have a job
If youre thinking about taking her online class. DONT do it. She just assigns articles , quizzes and a midterm then leaves. She doesnt provide ANY study guides or REAL tips on how to get good grades on the work. She doesnt even make the quizzes or midterm herself, she has canvas generate them for her. She does NOT lecture either. Run.
Be prepared to read 15+ pages every week. The only thing that saved my grade was midterm and final exam.
DO NOT MISS ANYTHING OR IT WILL BE A MASSIVE STRUGGLE. Teacher doesn't care about students at all, and does not respond to students unless its a copy paste response. Extra credit is graded extra harsh for the first one then she hands out free points bc she doesn't care. Quizzes make no sense, reading doesn't help either. Good luck if you take her.
Took her witchcraft class, it was by far one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. I took it online and it was a lot of work but somehow I just tried my best and got an A. Honestly if you try to stay on top of deadlines you'll be fine. It is a hard class though.
Prof. Floyd is condescending. At least that's how she treated me and some other students. A lot of favoritism. Keep in mind, I'm not disruptive. I'm actually a quiet and studious student.. Class is A LOT of material and your grade is dependent on exams and the final project (which majority of the class got a C or below on). Also very boring class.
The most condescending professor I have ever had. In order to even think about passing you have to read 20 pages with no study guide. The actual test leaves no room for error so if you're nerodivergent im sure there are many other ways to get those credits. Don't subject yourself to this , RUN
Professor Floyd is an excellent Anthropology professor. Makes everything easy to understand.
Prof Floyd really unlocked the key to running a successful online class. Her lectures are beautifully done and she is so knowledgeable about her subject. Discussions are actually interesting and not painful or cringe-y. You will learn a whole lot in this class and you won't stress out doing so.
Overall, great class to take. The witchcraft class was actually interesting. This was an easy A. Just have a quiz at the end of every week and plenty of extra credit opportunities. I definitely recommend taking her class.
Awesome teacher and super engaging with what she talks about. I took Intro to Forensics and she's very good at lecturing and very informative. Study though, and the book isn't totally necessary (she does post resources in the modules which substitutes the book). Tests and quizzes are important so you gotta study well for those!
Terrible professor in cypress college. Save yourself and take another professor!
One quiz a week that was 15 questions based off of her lectures. Extra credit every 3 weeks that brought up your grade by like 3 percent each time. She was great and class was so easy.
She's great, is a great lecturer, deep, and considerate and funny, she used to be a hard-a** according to herself and these older reviews but has mellowed out, class is and was fun, you actually learn about the material, and she's dedicated to anthropology so if that's your major then she's your gal. I'd take her again.
Professor Floyd gave informative and thorough lectures. I took the 8-week course and was able to finish in 1 week since my other courses ended early. There were (7) quizzes based on the textbook/lectures and she also offers extra credit assignments(4). The course outline and grading criteria were clear to understand. Easy and interesting class!
All online, but literally, it's all weekly quizzes and many extra opportunities, so if you fail this class, it's literally on you. Too easy
Took this class as a 5-week summer course and I expected the online/short-term format to be hard but she made it super easy. It's just reading the textbook/materials/watching lectures then taking 15-question quizzes in 30 min. 14 quizzes and 4 extra cred opportunities for 10 points each. Just put in the work and you should be able to pass.
5 week summer course. 13 module quizzes (30 points each, 15 questions). 4 discussion post (10 EC points each). Canvas is very organized and readings are all on canvas, no textbook needed. Quizzes are open note as well. Kinda hard to pass class without EC because you can only get 3 points off per quiz (less than 2 questions).
This was not a difficult class at all. I got a C for personal life reasons. I plan to take again to earn an A. I came to check the comments, and it seems like she is still a great professor.
Took this course over the summer. If you take this class, get ready to read (a lot!). No papers or exams, just 2 quizzes every week. Lot's of extra credit opportunity in the form of discussion posts.
Easy to get an A if you have the time to read 2-4 chapters, take notes, and do 2 quizzes weekly. There are a few extra credit opportunities worth 5 points each, which are discussion boards. Nothing much else to say.
This is my second time taking Anth 102, but Ms. Floyd's structure of this class is perfect for me because I took a regular semester and it was one chapter a week then at the end take a quiz. There is no other assignments unless you opt to do the extra credit, but its a bit much for 5 points of extra credit. I like her style and would take her again
