Teacher missed 5 days out of the whole semester, and often had to correct her own work while in the middle of class. Continuously stuck people together to do group work instead of working with the entire class with the problems. Strayed off subject a lot and didn't follow her own syllabus.
She did not teach to the tests. Often homework for a section is assigned after it has already been quizzed/tested upon. Extremely picky and inconsistent on matters of notation. She makes the course much more difficult than the material. Would suggest you run from this teacher and find a better one.
This professor gives out homework and makes you write out every problem and answer in complete sentences. Forge that! I have developed arthritis, no joking involved because of the amount of writing we have to do for MATH homework. She has missed out on more than 3 classes since the semester started...
She's the worst professor ever. she missed 4 class during the semester and never let u use open a book when she's talking. U rather just buy a book and read it than take her class. On the test , u see problems that u've never lean in class . Im highly recommend that STAY OUT OF THIS CLASS.
She is the worst teacher i have ever had!!She gives a ridiculous amount of hw and makes you write out each problem...she gives you tests that require 3 hours and only gives u 2 to take them..she lectures before exams on new material ....she is rude to people when you ask questions ...she puts questions on the exams that were barely covered in class
I don't really understand why so many people complain about this teacher. She has been teaching for 25 years, and she clearly knows what she is doing. If you actually care about school, your results will show. She's available to help whenever you need. Take this teacher if you care about graduating.
She knows a lot about math but she's just plain mean. Can't ask her a question without a rude remark. Her tests are incredibly hard as well. Take anyone else but her
This teacher doesn't care about her students in manner that her lecture doesn't help in exams. The fact that the class is harder than its supposed to be and HER EXAMS ARE VAGUE and mind you her grading is TOO SPECIFIC. barely explains her notes in a very uninterested way. I wouldn't advice taking her especially if you have science classes.
Shes a nice lady, but maybe she's been teaching this class too long because it seems like she doesn't really care about the students doing well in the class. An extremely hard class, only take her if you are already good at math.
She is a very rude, inconsistent, and unclear professor. Her exams are given without adequate preparation, no study guide or review, she grades extremely hard and assigns homework online with out announcing it or when it is due. Even if you are good at this subject she makes it very hard for students to learn and succeed. Do not waste your time.
I got an A. Lots of Homework; Took a ton of time to finish. The teacher and hw pretty much forces you to learn. If you only did the homework though, you would always do well in the class. Quizes and Extra credit make class a requirement. Class was only 1.5 hours. Teacher cuts to the point, but loses her rough edges once class starts moving.
Homework was ridiculously easy, but took hours. Plain and simple, she teaches you statistics. Honestly, probably one of the best professors I've ever had teaching me a subject I wasn't interested in. Do the homework, get good grades. GG. PS, GROUP FINAL, LOL.
Rude teacher, gave me attitude during her office hours, but at times also in class. Not very welcoming when asking for help. Homework is assigned online, but YOU have to rewrite every question and answer in a different sheet of paper for FULL POINTS which took HOURS. Her exams/quiz can be tricky, and hard. Including material you wouldn't expect
She's nice enough, but can seem rude due to sarcasm. Her teaching approach is very laid back; I believe it's called informal teaching. 80 hours of lecture, and she taught for maybe 10 hours. A calculus class isn't for "How do you feel about this answer?" Calculus is for concrete proofs and understanding, not "What do you think" on new material.
Did not like this teacher at all. I had her for pre Calc. Gave questions on tests that were impossible to answer and made sure to tell you that AFTER the test was over. Assigned literally 20+ problems for homework each class.
This is the BEST math teacher that I have ever. She is very helpful when you have question during the test. She also wants to see people pass. she is a strict teacher but a good teacher. she doesn't let people do whatever they want to do. I would take a class tough by her again.
In a math class of course it is not going to be easy. Yes, she does assign a LOT of hw but it honestly does help remember everything considering there is a ton of new concepts to go over in precal. Tests are tough and she doesnt give reviews so thats when the hw comes in handy to study. Overall nice professor, very clear and helpful lectures.
Came in willing to work hard, hoping the low rating was given by complainers. Here's my opinion: - Communication is not clear. Quite confusing - Sarcastic & abrasive interpersonal skills - Tries & fails at creating a positive learning environment She knows her stuff, is fair & can be helpful, but recommend avoiding if at all possible!
Nice and great professor:) but theres no room for procrastination just do your homework and study
Great professor:) but be prepared to do homework
If you know math well and likes to do things in your own way - don't take her class. She wants to be a big boss, and if you will not obey to her rules (for example, the way of taking notes and the methods of solving math problems), she will honestly claim that you will not pass her class, even if you are a knowledgeable student. Very disrespectful!
We never got our work back on time this goes as far as grades being posted after the semester was over. Don't think you can skip class and pass, she pays attention.
Wasn't too bad, didn't received your test, quiz, homework back in a timely manner, so you do not repeat mistakes. Your notes and work HAS to be in the format she wants, until she is satisfied with your stuff (gonna be awhile). Be VERY specific on your questions until you understand the problem. Very knowledgeable & willing to assist students.
Tough class, but is thorough and clear in lectures. Gives good, clear examples. Do the homework!
Some group tests/quizzes. Group final. The class is easy class if you like math or can easily understand it. Graphing calculators are allowed on tests/quizzes.
Definitely knows her stuff, communicates well, lots of help, extra credit, fun in class group things. Made friends with teacher and most of class. You need to stay up on homework, but definitely do-able. Tests are hard, but not unfair, honors Q's included, so sometimes you get EC without even knowing it! Gives a bit of history of why.
I love her teaching style. She goes through easy concepts before proceeding to more complicated ones. She's interactive with the class when going through problems on the board, so it's not just her solving it. I wouldn't take her again just because the tests are difficult, but I've definitely had worse math teachers as far as teaching goes.
she knows her stuff. gives extra credits. BUT she cant explain, VERY SLOW grader(never gives quizzes or assignments back. if you ask, she will mad at you), no exam solutions, tons of homework(mathlab), pop quizzes(doesnt help because she doesnt give back so you can't study for it). didnt learn anything. the worst math teacher.
Any homework, group activities, quizzes and exams will be graded and given back about 2 weeks later. So really you can't use them as study notes. When do your hw, quiz, exam, the format has to be EXACTLY as the teacher wants it. She will mark you down for it for not using and writing in her format. Often makes you feel stupid for asking questions.
Enjoyed the class. The prof. made her lectures as interactive as possible, while throwing a few jokes in there to keep everyone engaged.
She is so nice and so helpful. She really cares about her students education.
This is the kind of professor you look for when you care about transferring and learning the material. She teaches in different ways, catering to what that particular class needs to learn the material. She never gets mad at a question that "students should already know", and has a fun, sarcastic sense of humor. Wonderful prof, would take again.
There are no study guides and the tests are cumulative, material-wise. However, there are a plethora of quizzes that lay out what each test will cover and the Prof. is very clear about what material she expects you to know well, what will be provided for you, etc. This is somewhat advanced math so stay on top of the information and you'll survive.
I've had this prof. for both M150 and M151 and there is quite a lot to say - mainly: lots of homework, occasional quizzes, tests graded with extra credit but ARE given out slowly, 2 part final - group then indiv. From my experience, she is genuinely nice, knew the topics in-depth with outside applications, and did take the time to help students.
First off it should be noted I took the 6 week summer course so it was accelerated. There was way too much homework, mostly covering topics we didnt learn and werent on the test. The examples she gives in class are too easy compared to the test. Her tests are HARD. Condescending when asked questions, but lectures are clear. I worked hard for my A
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I'm in Calc 3 and on exam 1 she marked off most papers for not writing that a term was divided by 1 (x instead of x/1). Rambling, incoherent lectures, refuses to use the Stewart textbook, poor time management, and seems resentful of students, especially if you go into office hours. No tech allowed in class even to take notes.
No using laptop in class nor using scrap paper in exams. Style of teaching is not structured well. Lectures are slow and confusing. Pop quizzes take too much percentage and can damage your grade more than exams. Scoring is harsh; while the teacher can make mistakes in lectures, you are required to do things perfectly. To survive, study on your own.
Becky is decent professor if she provided more resources to study. She is quite a strict grader, not labeling graphs will get you 7/10. She ended up MASSIVELY curving the third exam, I should have gotten a C but got a A. Study what she practices in-class, a warning that no one will finish the group final. There aren't many Calc 3 profs, good luck
Assigned to teach Calc3 because of seniority. Treat students like high school kids, with a holier-than-thou attitude. There are more teachers qualified for the job than her.
She is a good teacher, her grading is tough but I still feel she is a good teacher and really does care. If you study, her tests are so easy a precalc student could pass them. She is a tough grader becuse her tests are the easiest I have ever seen. If you ask a question during the exam she will help you work though it. She wants you to do well
I took math 151 with her at winter. she cares about her students and answer patiently with all the questions you ask(even the things you should already know from the previous classes). We had 3 exams, the final had group and individual parts, quizzes are open notes. No surprise on the exams and final. JUST TAKE HER
I took the winter CALC II section with Professor Becky she was rushing through the material at the end, and she cancelled class even though we only have so little time to learn all the materials. Personally, I hated the group final exam. The people in my group did NOT know math and was only trying to pass with a C and I had to do all the work.
Too much homework, unclear lectures, only lets us solve problems the way SHE likes it, not the way that's easiest for us, doesn't post grades online (Today is the first day of finals and we don't even know what our grade is so far), RUSHES THROUGH TOPICS! Save yourself the stress and do not take her class.
She cancelled class twice and then we had a sub another time. The tests are not hard, but if you ask what will be on the test she just says what you asked will definitely be on the test now, it feels discouraging. There are pop quizzes. I am sure she cares, but her teaching ability is not the greatest. Take someone else if you can.
She can get frustrated easily, be careful, one can easily get on her bad side. And attendance is so mandatory.
was worried at first as reading some previous rates about her, but I can say confidently that she was the best math professor I've ever seen. Her class is not easy, however, it's calculus 3. You would feel the same whoever the professor is. I would like to take her again if she teaches math 255 next semester.
I don't know why all the negative review. Had her last semester when we went remote. She's not a bad teacher and really wants you to learn. Her class does get a bit overwhelming but that's because she put a lot of homework out to practice. Overall, I liked her, she transitioned well online and she knows her math well and can teach it
Her online calc 2 course is probably one of the easiest classes I've ever taken, I had an easier time taking that last semester than calc 1 the semester before. Pro Tip: answers for everything online lol.
I barely passed calc 1 and I failed calc 2 the first time so I was worried about taking this class and was considering switching out of my CS major, however prof stephens made things really easy to learn and her exams were also way easier than my first calc 2 class so I did really good in cal for someone who hates math as much as me
Professor stephens honestly wants all of her students to pass and achieve good grades and her class is designed as such. If you do even the bare minimum amount of studying and homework you can expect an A. As someone who struggles in math, professor Stephens made the material seem easy to comprehend.
If you struggle in math like me then consider taking professor Stephens because she really helps and cares about people who struggle to understand the material, and she always prepared us well for the exams. Her class was the first math class I was ever able to an 'A' in surprisingly.
It was my second time taking calculus 2 when I took this course and I wasnt sure If I was even going to last a month in the class, but after just a few classes with professor stephens, it was clear that I was going to do well with how easy she made the material and the exams. some concepts were hard but she always clarified them good if you asked
Do yourself a favor and never take this Professor. Shes disrespectful towards her students, is not accessible outside of class, and is the toughest grader. She does not grade anything until weeks later and doesnt give clear instructions. I know the class material is hard but she doesnt help whatsoever. Take anyone else but her.
I wouldn't recommend taking this teacher. First of all, she doesn't teach the material well. She does not give any grading criteria for any assignments, quizzes, or projects, so she just takes off points without even telling you why. She is also very slow at grading and you usually have to wait over a month to receive a grade on assignments.
The absolute worst professor I have ever taken for any subject. Lectures taught virtually nothing. She gave a few youtube videos that covered maybe 50% of the material for that section. INSANELY LAZY. Condescending through email no matter what youre emailing her for. Gives no reasons or criteria for grades, you just lose points w/out knowing why.
HORRIBLE!! Hands down the worst professor ever she doesnt care about her students AT ALL!! Gives an insane amount of work with no time to complete anything and you just lose points in exams without knowing why just pure awful! It is so bad I wanna give her a ZERO! But thats not possible so I give her a ONE!
I wish I could describe in words how absolutely awful this professor is but no matter how much I search there isnt a word to describe her awfulness and the pure dread and misery she has brought into my life. I dont understand why shes the only one teaching calc 3 fully online so many professors why does life want us to suffer like this?
Worst professor ever dont even bother
Why is she even teaching calc 3? Shes the laziest most careless prof ever, her exams are so hard that I never had time to finish them she gives no time and expects u to finish 20 questions that require 3 page answers in an hr and a half! Like how is that even possible? You legit have no time to do them when if u know the answer let alone think
Took her class during winter intersection and it was absolutely the worst decision of my life just pure awful! I wish other professors were teaching fully online calculus 3
Professor Stephens is super sweet. She cares about students and will give opportunities to fix your grade. I had Calc 2 and Calc 3 with her. Hint: DO THE HOMEWORK. Similar questions on the exam.
Shes a tough grader (especially towards projects) and seems a bit lost when teaching online. She seems like a decent person but I really did not enjoy the amount of hw we were given nor the loose specifications on projects.
this class has to be the WORST class Ive ever taken at my time at Miramar. Im an A student who does exceptionally good in all her subjects but this class was beyond insulting. I took it during Winter intersession and had to drop because of confusing and challenging it was. Do not, I repeat DO NOT take this class if you love your sanity.
Took her class during winter intersection and it was absolutely the worst decision of my life just pure awful! I wish other professors were teaching fully online calculus 3. too many homework, project that not easy.
To be fair I didn't put 100% of my effort because her curriculum is not great at all. She has her lectures, homework assignments, and quizzes. On top of that, we use a Cengage curriculum with its own textbook, homework, and quizzes. The class isn't hard but understanding her format is difficult. Also, she takes off points for little things.
Very simple. Don't take her.
Keep in mind the dates of all those reviews and the class - Calc 3 during winter intersession, which means the course is cramming about 16 weeks worth of material into a couple weeks, OF COURSE IT'LL FEEL OVERWHELMING. Professor Stephens is sweet, and I currently have no problem trying to understand the course work through her recorded lectures.
Assigns way too much homework! If all you wanna do is calculus, then take this class! I barely have time for my other classes because of the overwhelming amount of calculus hw assigned. do not take this class unless math is easy for you and you have a lot of time
I would give her a zero if there's an option. Too much homework she has no understanding of students. Homework assignments are so hard and you are on your own to solve them. Would NEVER take her but there's no one else teaching Calc 3 this semester.
Condescending teacher. Does not respect students. Not understanding. Karen. Avoid her at all cost.
assigns way too much homework. this class is very overwhelming. calc 3 is difficult but this course could be better organized, and more straight to the point instead of so many homework assignments that take days to complete..AND a final project...
Absolutely horrendous. Made calculus 3 much harder than it needed to be. This class had optional scheduled zoom lectures with exams in person, but scheduled zoom lessons were often canceled. She is a slow grader and there is little to no feedback.
Extremely tough grader. Avoid this class unless it is the only serious class you have. The class requires you to be pretty much fully dedicated to it in order to do well. If you are not confident in previous math classes you especially should avoid it
Decent professor, knows her stuff. Extremely slow grader, many of my classmates were not a fan. Her lectures are "optional" but you should really attend and watch all of them. Be careful on midterm and final, material reflects homework from previous chapters but know your stuff.
Slow grader, doable hw/quizzes and lectures were "optional". 10% homework 15% quizzes 50% on two exams with 1hr group and 1hr individual and 25% project for grading. Her class is doable if you work with pairs. Start the hw on time, *connect/work* with other students (use padlet to make a study group chat), and use outside resources.
Blindsided by 7 quizzes+assignments in one week (from average of 4). Deadline for assignments given a few extra days, but quizzes remained locked. No communication regarding this. Dropped the course over the stress involved with the incident. Despite being listed as fully online, exams are done in-person and must use her provided calculator.
Before taking this class, I had 67 units with all A's and this is my first B. If you want to try something new, go to this professor. You won't know your true grade even until the end of the semester, and suddenly you might get a B to end the semester you worked so hard for. She is the SUPREME POWER.
Some people should not be teachers.
Bad teaching. Expected to watch 4-6 1-2 hour long lectures per unit, of which there are 7. With several hours worth of homework a week as well, I would not take this class ever again. She also grades all homework and assignments very toughly, and exams are worth 55% of your grade, and a project with 5 parts worth 25%. YouTube was my friend.
Horrible teacher, dont take unless you have to.
I absolutely do not recommend this class to anyone that does not have a free schedule, and can't teach themself the topic. The class is 100% taught from the online textbook and online homework with students only receiving help from the professor during office hours. There is A LOT of homework and exams cover a HEAVY amount of material so be warned.
Takes months to give back grades. Disorganized canvas modules. Rude. Useless lecture videos so I had to learn the entire class from Prof Leonard on youtube. The workload/pace of the class was brutal! Worst class I have ever taken. Don't take her if you have other hard classes because you wont have time. Hardest final ever!
If you are a fast, independent learner that studies hard then it is possible to get an A. It is a tough course but you will learn a lot. Tests were easier than expected. She offers test corrections which ended up saving my grade. I recommend taking this class if you plan on transferring to a top university. Only downside is very slow grading.
Just don't do it plz I beg u
This professor had so many errors in their course.
I took professor Stephens for an online class. All exams were in person. They were modeled in a way where you would have a group portion in the beginning. That would help you for the rest of the test. She has a lot of homework but, she was available a lot for office hours and she is more than willing to go out of her way to help.
I took her online course for Calc II and it was tough. I will never take another online class ever again. HOWEVER, Becky was awesome. She is there for her students and available during her office hours. YOU HAVE TO TRY. Tests were good, I went to math lab frequently and watch youtube videos when needed.
This was a summer class for eight weeks and the first she taught in person. She's much better in person than the past reviews say and was a decent teacher. She sometimes lacked time management as we also didn't cover a few important topics, but overall was dedicated to making sure you learned and understood the material and exams aren't too bad
She is really nice and seems like a great professor. But with my class workload, I cannot do it. She assigns around 8-10 assignments a week. Would definitely learn something from her by the looks of it based off her lectures. Very sweet and caring, wish I'd be able to take the course. :(
Professor does not teach you whatsoever. But provides resources that suck to teach you what she should be lecturing about. I had to youtube everything about what I had to learn about…ive taken a math class prior where the teacher was actually lecturing. Didnt know final exam and project grade until i saw my final grade on portal. Do not take please
Her lectures are very confusing and hard to follow. She gives a bunch of assignments on things we didn't necessarily go over. She doesn't update Canvas, so you don't know what your grade is at all. She was very unorganized and canceled a lot of classes. Overall, no one I know liked her class, and I definitely would not take a class from her again.
This course is 4 credit hours for a reason. This is a fast paced and difficult course, but if you practice a lot and get questions answered, you should do okay. There were lots of assignments and class was hard to follow at times. The exams were fair or easy. There were lots of formulas to know and no prewritten note sheets for exams.
This was the most unorganized class I've ever taken. She is also such a slow grader and you won't know your grade until way after the semester is over. The material wasn't too bad, but I would not recommend to rely on just her lecture vids to understand concepts. She was nice but also kinda difficult to reach towards the end of the semester.
She is the worst math professor I have ever had and I'm usually an A student who is on top of their work. She has us watch her lectures from Covid mind you it's spring of 2025. She assigns pointless assignments during class that are usually a waste of time and have no value to the curriculum. Expect to teach yourself and rely on tutors.
This course was a pretty disorganized, but it was overall alright to follow along with. Prof. Stephens allowed a certain amount of time in the beginning of exams to work with others. Keep in mind that there are group projects and minimal pop-quizzes. Attendance is randomly checked, so don't fall behind, as some in-class assignments are also given.
Professor Becky is very caring and very knowledgeable about Calculus. She has students work in groups, and it really helped me understand the material. Fun project at the end of the course. The exams were not too bad, but she does grade slowly. She is accessible after class if you have questions.
This professor is very caring, and she made me feel less afraid of math. She has students work in groups, and a lot of the class time is students working together on problems and on activities. She is accessible to work with you outside of class if you have questions.
She is caring, and I felt very comfortable in her class returning to school after a few years. She genuinely wants her students to do well in her class. She is great to talk to outside of class.
Cool teacher! Take her.
Not that bad, Becky is chill. Her grading is pretty lenient but I did take the class during the Summer. Attendance was necessary and she threatened to withdraw students from the class if they missed two lectures. There was a lot of group work which I appreciated but the pacing of the entire course was done poorly.
Hello! I feel as though Professor Stephens gets a bad rep that is unwarranted. She is tough but fair, she is strict but compassionate, critical but ALWAYS willing to help and explain. I get that not everyone will benefit from her teaching style but from personal experience, I was able to excel because of her and her teaching philosophy.
I feel bad for giving this, but this was one of the worst experiences I've had with a college course. She grades extremely hard and docks points on exams for stuff like formatting. The class was really unorganized and had a lot of assignments. She often snapped at students after they asked questions. She was nicer towards the end, though.
Don't. She is a nice person but her lectures (2 hours each) aren't. She's not conceptual and doesn't explain her materials well so you will have to self-study at times. Exams are easy, pay attention to formatting/notations for full credits. For quizzes, you can work with people nearby. I suggest MIT 18.02 by Auroux if you're stuck on some topics.
