Her notes were very clear to me and she was very helpful to me when I had trouble with her assignments.
Love her!. She uses power points and make sure you take good notes and do the assignments and extra credits. She is very helpful. Total points including the tests and assignments are 320. With few extra credits I have over 320. Got an A+. Need some effort, but not too hard.
This definitely does not feel like an "Introduction" to biology. Her powerpoints are great. Her examples are funny. But this class scares me away from science.
really easy tacher lots of extra credit really nice even when someone makes her mad
She is an AMAZING teacher that makes you laugh. She makes sure to help you pass the class. I LOVED her!!!
Good teacher
She is RADTASTIC!Take her she is funny and will not bore you.
Nice, and funny, teaches great!
This professor is one of a kind. She starts of all extra mean and strict but then half way through the semester thats when she eases and out and hands out lots of extra credit opportunities. She has an acent but within time you'll get use to it.I highly recommend this professor.gives study guide(s)along with the answer(s).she will make sure you pass.
She's a good teacher very helpful has 4 test which she gives study guides and answers..if you study you will definitely get an A
This teacher was awesome. She has a great sense of humor and she's extremely helpful. She is a bit challenging, but if you attend all of her lectures and read/study the textbook, her class should be a piece of cake. Her tests have plenty questions, but she passes out a study guide and gives you all of the answers prior to the test. Great teacher!
easiest teacher ever! the text is used alot especially for the 4 study guides she gives out to the class! she is out there to help you and make sure you pass her class! really recommend her as a teacher!
all you need to do is study and read the book while using the study guides she provides you! study hard, go to class and youll pass with an A!
she's funny!
This is an amazing professor. She knows her stuff when it comes to Genetics. In upper division courses, she is not easy but it is appreciated. When I got to her class, I was greeted with the messag 'welcome to the real world!' She helped me fall in love with Genetics, and challenged me to purth forth more effort than I have in previous classes! :)
so easy! got C's on all test but did EASY extra credit. and i got an A!!!! DONT EVEN BUY THE BOOK. she gives study guides which are exactly like the test
Bio 120 Lab: Very knowledgeable, intriguing lecturer and a caring and giving person. Exams were extremely generous and extra credit is ample. Despite that, she’s serious about your learning the material – and she’ll call you out if you goof off.
She's extremely nice and helpful. 4 Exams, drops 1. Very easy clicker ? points and quizzes. Exams are easy since she gives study guides exactly like the exams (Sometimes with answers) Definitely recommend her!
This professor was so easy!! She gives a ton of extra credit and you get points just using your clickers in class. She has an accent, but despite that the class was super easy. She gives a study guide that is almost identical to the tests. SHE DROPS THE LOWEST TEST VERY VERY EASY A!!
Great and helpful professor, attendance is only taken for a few class sessions and is only mandatory for those who want the clicker questions which are 50pts, awesome and helpful study guide. Don't buy the book; powerpoints and study guides are given. Cool class
This class is difficult, but the key to passing the class is reading every page from each chapter and doing the h.w on the end of the chapter. She is decent at teaching but her slides at not clear, they have some mistakes that students sometimes notice in class or when reading the book. GO to every class for the clicker question points, 50 points.
Only 4 exams but the fourth one is optional so only 3 exams count she will drop the lowest grade and replace it with the better grade. The study packets are a life saver she uses the exact questions that are there on the quiz
Don't buy the book! Everything is on Blackboard: power points, study guides, etc. Clicker Required. Just do great (As) on the first 3 exams, 50 clicker-question points. Then don't show up to class after that. REALLY EASY! STUDY!!! Study Guide is EXACTLY the same as the exam
Formula for an A: Do the homework + Make the tables & diagrams she suggests you do. Many didn't read the book, but it helped me.
Professor Velasco was definitely one of the nicest professors I've had. Her course consists of lectures along with a couple of clicker questions. You really don't need the book, I hardly used it. Impossible to pass the class if you really try not to. She'll always be available to help if you need it. She's funny and pretty easy going. Easy class!
Begona De Velasco always had great lectures. I heard a lot about her accent on rate my professor but it was not an issue. As long as your in class and read the chapter before class the class would be much easier. Velasco also provides you with practice exams for all four exams.
Out of all the bio teachers that I had in the past, Velasco had the greatest confidence in her subject and in her students. She expects a lot out of you as a student to put in the effort. She drives you to be a success story. Ask her questions, she loves it.
Avoid at all cost she's psycho. Her accent is terrible no one can understand her. PowerPoint are useless she expects you to know EVERYTHING there is to know about every little thing in the class. Very arrogant and gives no help any questions we ask she says Google it!!
Avoid at all cost horrible teacher super hard!!!!!
Whole class is worth 265 points she's really hard take another teacher
Super hard
In all fairness to her, people did bad because they did not study; but, in truth she is an amazing teacher - she cares for her students. She has a feisty personality which if you see her at second glance, its very cute. You definitely get a sense that you can pass her class. Also, her accent is fine, people over exaggerate. Much respect prof!
She is an easy professor. Her tests come straight from the study guides. She assigns many extra credit assignments. She gives quizzes every class period using clickers and those points count towards participation.
There's 4 tests but she only keeps 3. If you do good on your first 3 tests then you don't need to take the final! She's a pretty good professor and posts all the lectures online. She also gives a couple of bonus activities throughout the semester. Do your work and you'll pass. Pretty easy course
I have always had trouble understanding biological pathways. Dr. De Velasco cleared everything up for me, and I really learned so much of Cell Biology from her. She is very helpful in her office hours, so please visit her. During lectures, she helps students to truly understand pathways. She is very good at teaching. Students will earn grades.
Begona is a great professor. She does have an accent but you can still understand her. She goes through the pp and makes it easy to understand. Class is not mandatory but it is helpful to go. Her test are not that tough but go over the questions she gives you in class. Overall, an easy class if you put in the work. She made the class fun and easy.
Keep in mind I took her during summer 2016, so it might be different during the full semester. She is a great professor. She has somewhat of an accent but nothing to bad. She is able to convey lectures into simale terms to the best of her ability. Due to time constriction she kind of went over stuff quickly. There were 3 exams and 1 final. STUDY!
Dr. Velasco was a great Professor to have during the Summer! She gave homework that made it easy to understand the material, her powerpoints were okay but the reading and videos helped more. She has an accent that is not hard to understand so you will be fine. Definitely get to know her and just do exactly what she says for the homework and tests.
as long as you read the material before hand then you can follow the lectures and you can get pass the accent. otherwise great professor
She is moody and expects too much out of a GE. I'm a senior and this required more of an effort than my 400 level classes. You're put into groups and if your group sucks you will fail because there are group projects and quizzes weekly. If you take her don't buy the book all you need is a clicker and don't forget it because she has no sympathy.
This professor was cool but honestly to me, it was a lot of reading. It's basically all that you've learned from high school Biology. Easiest A, I mean she offers a lot of extra credit and she uses the clicker so that's essential. The test questions are from the book and everything she's taught in class so you should pass.
Your grade is consisted of online quizzes, in class quizzes, class activity points, and 3 exams (there are 4 exams but she drops the lower grade). Your grade won't be very clear on BB so you will have to calculate the points on your own- but as long as you do the work it'll be fine. She also gives many extra credit opportunities .
Dr. Velasco is the sweetest professor ever! Honestly, don't even buy the book. You don't even need it. I left mines untouched. Just study the online quizzes and most importantly the handouts she gives you or uploads in Blackboard! We had to purchase a clicker to use during class for In Class Quizzes, so come to class!
Her class consists of online quizzes (you can retake as many time as you want), in class quizzes (do the questions she post on black board!! It will help!) , and 3 exams. She is super nice and willing to help you. You don't need the book so save your money!
She is very nice and it is mostly lecture in class. A couple of homeworks to prepare for the exams and quizzes. Quizzes are online and you have multiple attempts so they are easy points. Exams are answered by Clickers. She gives you study guides for them. Easy Class. And textbook is not required to pass this class
She was very intimidating at first, but then you realize that's just her personality and shes actually the most sweetest professor you'll ever meet. She gives you everything you need to know to pass her exams so study!
Really helpful and super easy to pass the class. She makes all the quizzes online and gives 5 chances for each. If she tells you to answer questions to bring to class, the questions are on quizlette. She requires a clicker for in class points and the questions she asks are based on her lecture. Definitely don't need the book, just look at PP slides
Velasco is alright. Be prepared to do mandatory HW. Beware of clicker questions for points in class. Study all the practice online questions for her exams! When she tells you to draw out the structures, that's most likely going to be on her exams. A group oral presentation in the end of the semester. Exams are multiple choice and free response.
The questions on all 4 exams were taken straight for the multiple questions handouts on B.B. The quizzes online are multiple to unlimited chances. Gives 15 to 30pts extra credit on each exam. Lowest exam grade dropped. In class, quizzes were questions straight from handouts. Light accent. Easy A! and B with little effort! TAKE HER !
As long as you come to class, participate in the in-class clicker questions, do the online quizzes, and study the online questions that she gives for each chapter (approximately 30-70 questions) you will pass this class. No textbook required. I recommend this class with her. Also, sit in the front as it can be hard to see and hear her sometimes.
She is So easy online and in class quizzes are easy test are hard I bombed the test and Still got a B in the class just do good on the in class quizzes and online quizzes and ull pass easy with a B or Higher. She uses Iclicker2 so Rent one from the bookstore
Very difficult class. The lectures would be fine if she slowed down, It's so much information in the slides and she starts going too fast. Ask her to slow down. Exams are mostly multiple choice, if she ask for charts or diagrams for homework, that'll most likely be on the exam. Go to tutoring and SI. This class is no joke.
This class is REALLY EASY. Print her online questions for the chapter for each test. She gives the answers for her online questions a week before the quiz or you can find it on Quizlet. She ENCOURAGES you to use Quizlet. The questions on the test are from the online questions but she puts it in random. Just memorize the questions & answers.
The class was pretty easy assuming, you put the work in! She gives you so many chances to pass so you must show up to class for quiz points. Study her PP slides, study her quizzes, do her online quizzes, go on quizlet. However, dont just memorize answers, learn. She always ask for essay type Q's on team and individual exams. Dont be lazy and u pass
I started explaining what I know about a topic leading to my question so she could help fill in my knowledge gaps. She cuts me off and says "just ask your question, I don't have time for that." I literally needed about 30 seconds. Nope, wouldn't listen for 30 seconds. She took longer explaining why she won't let me talk, than just letting me talk.
She is such a good professor. I passed her class with an A and i didn't even need to take the final. Her class is based on in-class quizzes, online quizzes, and exams. The online quizzes are on quizlet so those are easy to pass. She gives you the in-class quiz questions beforehand and the answers are on quizlet as well.
Velasco was easy for Ani Phys. Be aware of easy clicker questions to get up to 50 points max. Also be aware of doing easy online questions for points that can be found on Quizlet. There were 3 exams (final is non-cumulative) and they were 50 points each. Study the online questions for the multiple choice and free response comes from her PPT slides.
The only time book usage was mandatory was when specific homework Q's referred to specific diagrams. Make your notes from the dense yet palatable powerpoints and you should be fine. In class participation points are used. 4 exams, your lowest grade one is dropped.
Cell Bio was easy to a degree. Like most comments, she grades on 4 exams that are derived from PPT slides and mandatory online q's. You do the online q's and you get credit for them. It's a good way to boost to your grade. Her accent is not that strong. Due to COVID, it was mainly individual work, but it's maintainable. I got a B and didn't study.
I can tell Prof. Velasco is enthusiastic about biology and knows her stuff. She had slides, notes, and quizzes all up on the BB for us. However, I felt lost during her classes; she spoke fast, breezing through the material, not waiting for us to comprehend. The quizzes are mostly unrelated to what she taught in class.
Due to COVID, virtual class. lecture slides are awful, you rely heavy on txtbook. very tough grader in written part of exam. Asks too many detail in a short given time. Way too many assignments. VERY UNORGANIZED, u can even tell from BB site. I would not recommend unless u want to study everything by urself. expects too much when her lectures SUCK!
Taking an online class with her is NOT it. I had to take an online course due to COVID-19 and it was HELL. She seems like a very nice person, however the way she goes over the lecture is not helpful. She has a different grading system that throws you off & she offers a free textbook but bases her quizzes and tests on the one you need to pay for.
the test is unreasonable, It is so hard the lecture did not reflect the exam. You wont learn anything from this class. please dont take it. i theres any choice of professor take.
The teacher is nice and her lectures are good but they don't match the exam. Response Lockdown is required and her questions seem to be more based on random quizlets than the actual material. I would do notes, and I would study all the terms and concepts for the chapter but the exam would not match the material.
Took her before COVID, not a bad teacher most of the stuff is on quizlet but she messed up my final grade which left me with an F even though i was passing the class. Instead of fixing it she made me jump through hoops to get it back. Didn't only happen to me, also happened to others but she did not care.
She was terrible at adapting to online work and three out of the four exams were so unbalanced in terms of grading. Half of our exam points were from free response prompts that are vague but require more detail than what she taught or even provided. The quizzes and exams don't even line up with her material but a lot of it is on Quizlet.
Honestly one of the worst teachers Ive ever had at the school. Grades were outrageously unbalanced. Lectures and PowerPoints were not helpful.
I found this class difficult only because she kept changing the exam format which made it hard to prepare for the exams. If theres SI sessions, you should definitely attend those because she goes over a lot of information in a short amount of time and SI will help you understand a little more about what she went over.
Class was extremely work heavy! Sometimes 4-6 things due in 1 day. Mostly pre-quizzes and tests. The tests are easy to pass, as she encourages the use of Quizlet. The exams are done in a browser that locks the page. Total of 5 and are difficult, because the questions do not match the pre-test/quizzes. Only take if you have the time&want good grade.
Professor Velasco is very nice but she is not a that good teacher. Tests are really hard and questions are confusing. She has a really heavy accent that is hard to understand. She doesn't give notes. PP slides only an outline. Expect us to read the the text and take own notes. Come on this is biology. We literally can't memorize the whole text.
not very organized, Lectures are recorded but scattered due to editing. Exam questions feel much harder than quizzes. Does offer extra credit. wouldnt take again.
This is a very reasonable class. There are quizzes every week but there are very quick. The due dates are super reasonable and there are so many opportunities for extra credit. I don't understand the other comments. I thought the class was not that difficult, but I like biology. She is a good lecturer and a kind professor.
Professor de Velasco is awesome. Really enjoyed her class. She gives out so many resources in order to study the topics and I was thankful for that. She drops the lowest exam score out of 5 exams so that was pretty helpful! Gives extra credit. Research paper and video was easy too.
Professor Begona De Velasco is very kind! There are over 150 students in one class. Quite a bit of reading, practice questions, and quizzes. The textbook didn't line up with the chapters provided on the syllabus. Most of her questions are on Quizlet! There is a fun outside classroom activity you have to write a short paper on. DON'T fall behind!
knowledgeable but cant teach. she teaches A in class, but on the tests its like ur taking a test on A at a phD level. dont fall behind so that u wont be stressed and annoyed. she drops 2 of the lowest in class Qs, 4 quizzes, and 1 exam. do well on the first 4 exams to skip the final. do the practice exams bc its EXTRA CRED. open note exams but hard
De velasco is nice and all but she genuinely cant teach. her heavy accent made trying to understand the material even harder. then like what the other review said, she teaches one thing then on the test it is literally impossible. the slides she gives dont help at all but they are open note tests. good luck if ur actually trying to learn
Amazing personality and inspiring academic journey. A lot of extra credit given, test/quizzes online, a lot of interactive activities which are really helpful, many alternative study techniques give. Reading the textbook really help and make ur cheat-cheat. Highly recommend. GOOD LUCK.
You will have 4 exams and 1 Final Exam. Velasco will drop your lowest exam score (even the Final Exam). If you do really well on the first 4 exams, you DO NOT have to take the final exam! Her exams include multiple-choice questions, true and false questions, and free-response questions. You are allowed one cheat sheet per chapter covered on exams.
Lots of extra credit opportunities (5% applied). Imo, too many small tasks to keep up with like quizzes & attendance tests. There is a research paper, oral presentation & a group project. Doesn't really lecture, I only learned from her drawn examples in class. Heavy on in-class participation & activities. Not hard not easy, not my fave but not bad
Nice professor. She doesn't give too much work. For attendance she gives quizzes at the end of class which are accessed with the code she tells you. Lets you take the exams at home.
She was nice, but cell bio was a difficult subject for me. I didn't appreciate the added work aside from having to study for her exams every 2-3 weeks. She required a 5-7 single spaced paper, a presentation for it, and another presentation. Attentance is mandatory for her daily pop quizzes. She wasn't too bad but not good either.
4 exams, lowest scored exam dropped 23 in class quizzes for attendance, lowest 10 dropped 23 take home quizzes, lowest 10 dropped Make sure to come to lectures and you'll be good
A lot of homework, you'll be done with the first and then have to do the next right away. It might overwork you but other than that the assignments are pretty easy to do if you study the material right.
Nice professor if you are taking her for bio 102 for non bio students. quizzes are very easy class. Take home exams and attandce matter because there is quizzes at the end of class.
One of the best professors I have had. she would always check up on me. Not once did I ever have to go looking for her. she was always available. She wants you to pass so she would always reach out when a assignment was due. I passed the class with a C but that was my own fault. She was a great teacher and I would take her again.
Well this class consisted of weekly modules: reading, videos, practice and actual quizzes/exams. After submitting an assignment your grade pops up automatically also 5 discussion boards only required to do 1 per month you have a choice of 3 different types. Overall, professor was very great!
