I've taken 5 classes with Sharif and I learned nothing.
The material is supposed to be interesting, but prof lacks enthusiasm, and so the class is dull. If you're going to make it, make sure you participate. Shy people, change your personality from timid to supertalkative to please the Sheriff. The Sheriff is not too lenient on grades.
very friendly, but not a lot of studnts like her. I don't think she grades fairly. Helpful during office hours and advisement, but lacks a lot of information about the class. She jumps from one story to another and sidetracks alot in her lectures.
Shariff can be nice at times, and can embarass you at times. From my expereince she favors students that talk alot in the class. I think she grades unfairly. You'll get the impression that if she likes you at first, then you'll get a good grade, and vice versa. Her requirements are easy, including take home finals.
She is a little difficult. She tends to focus on the participation of her students, and she gets side-tracked sometimes. Focuses on lecture and book for tests.
She is a wonderful professor. She takes time to teach us well. She is very understanding of her students needs as individuals. She is very, very hard working.
She is fairly easy, the textbook helps for the tests considering the test is based mostly on the reading. She tends to talk a lot but mostly about the material although she might get a little side-tracked at times.
She is a nice teacher. Sometimes lectures gets boring. She gets side track a lot! Fair grader. I would recommend.
Dr. Sharif is not a poor professor. She is not receptive to students concerns nor interest and is highly subjective in her grading. Thus, if she likes you then you will receive an A for the course but if she does not like then it will definitely reflect on your grade. Thus, try to stay in good terms with her throughout your academic degree.
she smiles, but is mean spirited ! you will not be prepared for the the real world. Her lecture notes and tests are incongruent. She argues with students and dominates the class, and is not open to new insightful ideas. unfortuanately , she teaches ALL the HS courses
Her information is inconsistant and incorrect. She talks excessively about karma and chakras, which have no scientific foundation. You must participate to do well in this class however be prepared to be humiliated and demeaned as she will never like your answer. If your goal is to learn basic health concepts avoid this instructor at all costs!!
If you can aviod taking HS... I would do so, because Dr. Sharif is not a teacher that I would recommend to anyone. She can never answer a question directly and gives long winded explanations that have nothing to do with the question at all. She is not helpful, and cannot be reached outside of office hours and class is time.
SHE IS A NICE PERSON AND KNOWS HER STUFF. JUST READ ALL THE CHAPTERS AND REVIEW CLASS NOTES AND YOU SHOULD DO WELL.PEOPLE WHO HAVE PROBLEMS IN CLASS,ARE THOSE THAT DON'T FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. SHE IS VERY CLEAR AS TO WHAT SHE EXPECTS FROM A STUDENT.
She does not always give a clear answer. She always gives a review as to what you need to know for midterm nd final and her reviews are exact to the test. okay class. not as bad as people said she was.
Dr. Sharif is a knowledgeable professor. This class was a good introduction to health. She likes people to participate in class discussions and is a fair grader, as long as you follow directions.
Public Health Administration is not the most exciting class i had to take at CSULA but Professor Sharif did her best to lecture this subject. You do need to read the book and participate in class to get a good grade.
Dr. Sharif is a great professor. Please do not listen to what other students say. These are the students who sit in class to do nothing, are lazy and are only in Health Science courses because they can't get into a nursing program. Dr. Sharif is very informative, she prepares you for the real world and your future career in public health.
Dr. Sharif is great. I can't see how student's say they want to be in public health but they don't want to speak, ridiculous. Please if you want to learn and work in the field of public health stop complaining and stop trying to have everything handed to you. Dr. Sharif is worth taking.
Dr Sharif is very helpful teacher, very conprehensive . If in case you need to miss or had to miss a presentation, she'll let you make it up. She usually does grade based on how you perform your presentation with your groups. All of the quizzes were based on the book . I recommend her 100%. Plus, It was a very fun class.
Simply wonderful. I took more than three classes with Dr Sharif last year and she really opened my eyes and mind to a great many things. She is passionate about what she does and if you share her passion, you will find her classes exciting and rewarding. Dr Sharif is simply wonderful. A true mentor and a real inspiration! I really miss her........
SHE IS A VERY EDUCATED PROFESSOR IN THE FIELD. SHE TRIES HER HARDEST TO SIMPLIFY THE INFO SO THAT WE CAN APPLY IT TO THE REAL WORLD.
as an advisor dr sharif was great. she lead me in the right direction for my educational goals. her classes were great preparation for the interships where i felt well prepared and praised for my ideas and professionalism. after all the hard work it was worth it in the end.
Simply wonderfull, insightfull, and even attractive for her age.
DR.Sharif, is extremely subjective in her grading. It is not clear why this professor is not investigated by HS department on her ethics, because she has none. However, she does know her stuff but what good is that if she cannot import fairness towards students. I guess she is preparing students for the real world. Good luck brown nosing 4 an A.
Please listen what i say! dont take her. no information relates to HS at all and so boring class. I really regret i took this class. what a wasting time! She is so mean and not helpful to who wants to do learn. TERRIBLE!
A challenging and rewarding classroom experience is what you will receive from Dr. Sharif. I pay tuition for quality instruction, and Dr. Sharif delivers. Come prepared for a learning environment, yet know that Dr. Sharif is open to explain her course material(s). For serious learners, highly recommended.
I have had the pleasure to take many HS classes with Dr. Sharif. She embodies the spirit of Community Health. I have always been impressed by her professionalism and teaching abilities. She works hard to provide quality education for her students. She inspires respect, perseverance & hard work. This class was inspiring as was she.
Professor Sharif speaks about professionalism and community health standards, but sometimes lacks both qualities herself. Can be intimidating and has difficulty with people who object to her methods. You will learn in her courses, but the environment overall is stifling and depressing.
Professor Sharif Guided us through an enlightening internship experience. We were well prepared in our presentation of ourselves, as we represented our learning experiences in a working environment. Cares about her profession and learning of students.
she's okay. i find her information useful. i rather like the group projects. she grades heavily on class participation. the only think i did not like was that she was not that helpful or approachable.
I personally do not like the professor because she downgrades students sometimes without even realizing it. But she's a fair grader. I only got B's in her class. Sometimes she tells you what's going to be on the test. If you study then you're fine. But there's is no way that you will not pass if you do not work for it
Dr. Sharif is a wonderful professor. She is professional and knowledgeable in her field; applies research and practice during HS 413 to insure students succeed in completing the final project. This is one of the difficult classes in PH major, but if you follow her exact instructions and read the material you will definitely get a good grade.
Dr. Sharif is excellent. She is professional and knowledgeable as an instructor and a counselor. She is helpful during class and office hours. She is hard working and gives 100 percent in her classroom. In opposition of some reviews, she is fair, respects hard work and professionalism and clear on her expectations from the beginning. A+ instructor
I had professor Sharif for many of my HS classes. She is an exceptional advisor. She assisted me when I had questions and/or any concerns during my internships and during my studies as a Public Health student. She is professional and respects hard work. Take her and do your best and I promise you will become a real professional.
Dr. Sharif is one of the best professors I have had. She is an expert in what she does. This class required hard work and detail, but she is very helpful throughout the quarter. Need to follow instructions and be enthusiastic. She loves her work and highly qualified. If you lazy, don’t take the class. She gives you knowledge, not free grades!
Prof. Sharif is very passionate about her subject but not very helpful in terms of learning the material. Exams are very specific and right out of the book but require almost complete memorization of material, down to unimportant details. Overall, I was disappointed with her teaching style. I would not take her again.
This course was great Dr. Sharif challenged us with creating a program and the course covered in-depth information that you will use through out your Public Health career.
This course was amazing once again I really enjoyed it. Professor is challenging but so is life, she offers more than the course material she challenges you to know who you are and what type of person you can be. Many students take offense to this for one reason or another however it takes commitment and quality to be transparent as she is.
If you are looking for an easy A, then this course is not for you. However, if you want to obtain all tactics of grant writing and be successful in your career then take this course with professor Sharif. By paying attention on her lecture and reading the book you can get an A. I highly recommend her,she is very supportive and knowledgeable.
Take this professor's class if you want to be good in grant writing. If you need help, doctor Sharif will do her best to help you. She is very helpful and gives good advises which can be utilized not only in the class but in regular life as well. She is very open to any type of conversation. I recommend her as a good and fear professor.
I have enjoyed her class and the teaching style she has. Her class is very interesting and the examples brings during the lectures are very helpful. Our project (grant writing) was very interesting and she was always there if our group needed help. She is a good and fear professor, take her if you want to get knowledge you are paying for.
Dr. Sharif is one of the best professors I have had. This class required hard work, but she was there when we needed help. If you want to get a good grade pay attention on her lecture and follow instructions. If you are lazy, don’t take any class that she teaches, since she is there to give you knowledge, but not free grades.
A challenging and rewarding course. A good and valuable experience is what you will receive from Dr. Sharif. Read the materials and follow her lectures and you will get a good grade. Dr. Sharif is a professional in her field and is always ready to explain the course materials. She is also fair grader. Highly recommended for serious learners.
This course was very interesting and informative, since various groups were presenting current issues of health using different concepts and health models of public health. If you want a good grade then follow all guidelines and avoid religious or other sensitive topics, since these topics require more knowledge then one might think.
If you want to be successful in your career and pass CHES without any difficulties, take all courses that Dr Sharif teaches. She is awesome and will help you if you need help. Study hard and you will get a good grade.
This course doesn't require a textbook. You need to present a current health issue, chosen by your group, using your knowledge obtained from other courses, including health models and Healthy People 2020 goals and objectives. Avoid reading from the power point, create good discussion questions and you will do well in this class.
She is a great professor, and one of the few genuine educators in PH Dept. She has the ability to turn bad questions into teachable moments. The subject is hard itself and needs a lot of effort. Don't take her class if you're not used to working for your As, but if you're prepared to put the work in and actually read the text book you'll do well.
Very interesting class, you will know a lot about the current issues of health. This class is full of fun and interesting discussions. Dr Sharif gives participation points and does her best to help her students. Just follow her instructions and present your material well and you will get a good grade.
Just be prepared to present one of the current health issues of USA, participate in class discussions and will get a good grade. However all the comments you do during the class discussions should be objective and backed up by a scientific research, which should not be surprising, since it is the essence of a seminar.
In my opinion Dr. Sharif is a great professor and is not as hard as some people mentioned here. She is also a very nice person who wants her students to get the maximum knowledge which they are paying for. Take her classes if you are ready to work hard for your As and if you want to be successful in your future career.
Sharif is a great professor I highly recommend her to others. As long as you study her lecture slides and pay attention in class you'll be ok. Believe me you will appreciate her teaching style when you start working in PH org.
Don't believe that Dr. Sharif is a hard teacher, simply the subject itself is kind of hard, but this wonderful professor is there to help you whenever you need her help. I have enjoyed her class; she is very knowledgeable, professional and knows the subject well. If you want to pass CHES take all courses that she teaches. I highly recommend her.
Amazing professor, who wants her students to be successful. If you are lazy, don't take this class, but if you want to learn the subject you are paying for and be prepared for professional world Dr. Sharif is the best choice. I love this professor very much, she the best!!!!!!
I have learned a lot. If you want to learn something about Public Health, program planning and evaluation that you would utilize later in your career take this course with her.
If you want an easy A, then this course is not for you. I highly recommend this professor; she knows the subject she teaches. Believe me, you will appreciate Dr. Sharif when you start your career.
Dr Sharif is very professional and knows her subject very well. Pay attention on her lectures, read the book and you will be able to pass this course without any difficulties. She has very specific criteria for the project and if you are confused ask for help and she will help you. Love her so much!
I took professor Sharif for numerous classes and she has been nothing but inspirational. Probably one of the best professors in the department she makes sure that when she assigns work, it is clear what her expectations are. She explains during each class what she wants in all her assignments and will make appts to talk about the projects.
I had the pleasure of having professor Sharif for the internship course at CSULA. The class only meets twice and there is much paperwork involved only because professor Sharif wants to make sure that the internships are good for the students. It was a good course to take.
Professor Sharif, is very knowledgeable about the subject that she teaches, and she clearly is able to transfer the information to the students in a effective manner. The group project is fun in this class but you have to be prepared to participate because after all every class requires some form of participation. Overall a good course.
She's too prideful even when she's in the wrong. Gives lots of wrong informations and very misleading. Do not take her.
Like a few other comments said, she cannot be reasoned with. She's an older faculty member and will continuously remind you that you are a student ( more so if you are an undergrad), so be prepared to be talked down to. The administration does not help either. She also does not communicate her assignments clearly, so be cautious of this. Good luck
I took Dr. Sharif for Health Promotion and PH Administration this semester and she was amazing! Be prepared to participate in class, you'll definitely get on her good side if you do. I didn't really use the books in her classes too much, her lectures have all the info you need for the exams. A couple of easy projects too. Highly recommend her!
very easy class you just have to show up for attendance points and participate once or a few times and your good to pass. Tests are easy she provides a study guide, the class is very easy you don't need the book at all because she puts everything on the powerpoint. You have one group project and one group paper to do as far as assignments.
Very fortunate to take her class. Very kind, knowledgeable professor w/ goals of preparing her students for successful careers in the public health field. Tests based on power points but book is very helpful to study from. She assigns group projects & assignments & attendance and participation & important. Easy to talk to and very understanding.
Amazing, professional and caring. Was a pleasure to have her as a professor. She is very understanding, reasonable and credible. She is very knowledgeable of the public health field and prepares her students for the different careers available in the field. Wants all her students to succeed in life and in making the world a better/healthier place.
She is a wonderful professor and she genuinely cares about her students. The set-up of her class is great because the final project helps you put into work everything you have learned throughout the semester. Pay attention and ask questions.
An amazing professor who cares a lot about her students. The way this class is taught is wonderful because you get the chances to visit actual organizations and make connections with future employers. The group presentations are great because you learn about other places that might be hiring.
She is a great and informative professor who cares a lot about her work. She does give her opinion on a lot of lectures and feedbacks but this is to help the students become more informative and attended in lectures. She does count attendance and is serious about her grading skills. Just participate and follow her lectures and you will do good.
Dr. Sharif opened my eyes of the importance of Public Health. It's about working for the grade you want in her class. Her lectures are structured and easily understood. If and when I needed extra interpretation about a particular lecture, she was ready and willing to help me understand during class, or OHs. If you're used to sliding by, stay away
She reads off her power points must of the time and will end up talking about random things not related to the lecture. She makes students sign their name on paper and write down the time they arrived for class for attendance. Her lectures are extremely boring but she'll try to be funny. Theres 3 midterm, 1 final, 1 presentation, 1 research paper.
Dr. Sharif is not like any professor b/c she wants to make sure her students understand the material, so they can apply their knowledge in the real world. At times she does come off as rude but if you come with your questions ready during her office hours, she is more than happy to help you. Do not let the other reviews scare you, give her a chance
AVOID this teacher if you can. She is rude and unapproachable. The assignments: 3 exams, 1 group presentation, 10 page paper group grant proposal. Everyday in class you have to sign in for attendance and if you are late you have to put the exact time you got into class. Transition to online-left us to read book chapters and look at the PowerPoint.
This professor is rude. I recommend you take another Professor if possible. 1 group presentation, 3 exams, and 1 group research paper. Not the best transition to online compared to my other professors-She told us to stick to reading the book and the PowerPoint. Attendance and participation matters a lot.
I'm glad I took this class with Professor Sharif. Her passion for her job and dedication to her students is evident! She is extremely approachable and will do all she can to see you succeed. The grant proposal at the end of the semester is something that will prepare you for a future career in public health. I enjoyed the course's practicality.
Dr. Sharif is a very passionate professor who really enjoys teaching and it shows. Her lectures are clear and concise which is very helpful. She is full of knowledge, and she really cares about your success in this class (Health Promotion) and your improvement. She's awesome !
She is an Ok professor but would not take her again. She does come off rude. Be prepared for group projects. 3 exams, 1 presentation, and 1 research paper. Her Exams are hard to follow but study the powerpoints, participate in class, go to class and you will eventually pass. Her lectures are long. She goes off-topic while lecturing sometimes.
Great class, very informative. Lectures follow the syllabus: 3 exams (including 1 midterm), 1 group presentation. Professor Sharif always makes sure students understand lectures. Participation was significant in her class. PPTs are useful during exams. Projects are beneficial to understand more about Public Health. Great and useful course to take.
I took couple of classes with professor Sharif. She is a very understanding professor, always concern about her students. Lectures are interesting. Attendance and participation are a must. 2 exams, 1 group presentation, 1 research project. I will definitely take more classes with her.
She's an understanding professor. Show up to class and expect to put in work and it will pay off. All her assignments and exams are relatively easy (notes). Class requires participation so try to engage in her lectures as often as possible. Her class tends to get kind of boring so don't slack off.
Dr. Sharif spent ample time covering relevant material, especially topics related to class projects which helped complete these assignments. Class participation & questions were always welcome. I appreciate that class projects properly trained students for a career in health promotion. I'm thankful to Dr. Sharif for all that I learned this semester
Dr. Sharif covered relevant material that prepared students to complete group projects. She always encouraged attentive class participation & questions. I'm thankful to Dr. Sharif for teaching us about the relevance of policy in public health & the crucial role of the HR Dept. within public health organizations. Now, I feel ready for a PH career.
If you are considering taking Dr. Sharif, be ready to have an in-person group presentation that is not explained to a full extent. Her class also involves 3 exams and a long paper at the end of the semester that is time-consuming and is also not explained properly. Dr. Sharif is a great person but is strict, confusing, and disorganized at times.
Very confusing, strict, and expects you to remember what is expected on her syllabus. One group presentation, one team paper, and 3 exams. This is too much. Quizzes are hard. Requirements are not to the point and confusing.
Has a purposeful way of teaching. Prepares you 4 the public health field. The lecture is heavy, I recommend taking notes in your own understanding. Provides all the Ppts. for you. PARTICIPATION is important, she gives lots of points for it. Sit in the front to keep up. Understanding and flexible if you communicate w/ her. Responds quick to emails.
Heavy on lectures and participation. There is about 2-3 exams based off of her lectures, 2 big group projects (a presentation and paper). She cares about her students. Very flexible, easy to talk to, understanding, and responds to emails. Just pay attention and help do group work. Don't overthink it, she only seems intimidating.
Attendance and participation is mandatory. The professor is very strict. Does not want to listen to students and unorganized. This class is a lot more stressful and difficult than it should be. Post assignments randomly and if you miss the deadline then you will not be able to turn it in. Makes inappropriate comments during group presentation.
I would not recommend taking this professor. Her lectures are boring and it leads to students not wanting to engage during class. Her expectations are confusing, she highly wants students to participate but when students do engage she almost always comes off as rude when expectations are not met.
Professor Sharif is very caring ! She takes her job very seriously and that is reflected in the class. In this Health Administration class you have to complete a team presentation, a team paper and only one exam! When I took the class it was hybrid which I feel is amazing. She is always giving class time for collaborative work and is flexible!
This class goes into everything you need to know about health promotion. Professor Sharif is very clear on her expectations for the course and will answer any questions. This course has 2 exams and a team presentation and paper. A good group is key! With all said if you participate during class and are attentive you will succeed!
Professor Sharif has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class is worthwhile. The workload is heavy, with group projects and exams, but Unstuck study can help with study prep. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding experience.
