Good guy. Good teacher. A little iffy with testing, but he's always willing to help his students. Doesn't take attendence, and there is a decent amount of notes. Overall, take him.
Great guy. Very funny and cares about the students. Not really kool about test grading, unless spoken to about the grade. Over-all take him. You'll have fun and learn at the same time!
I loved this guy!! Found my bf in his class... but really, gives alot of notes. Helpful.... and easy to cheat cause he gives same test in all his classes. Dont buy the book. Never used it once. And never takes atendence. Funny guy
Get ready to write write writ and read read read.I was there for one day that was enough
I love this prof!! He wants his students to learn and tries to encorporate them into the class as opposed to just lecturing. He wants everyone to do well. 3 exams. If you did bad on one he dropped it. Didn't need to read the book just go to class. Hardly ever gave hw. Great guy.
One word..amazing..take him def. by far the coolest teacher at this school, laid back, great personality and funny as hell.
He is a really great professor and will do anything to help you understand the material. He will even change your test grade if you explain your wrong answers.Take him if you can, but DON'T buy the book.
Made class very hard, som much material, read read read and write wrtite write extrimly hard final even it is hometake.
THE BEST PROFFESOR EVER! i loved this guy. great teacher. really wants you to learn. makes material interesting. if you do bad on exams he's very understanding about it, and changes grades as long as he knows you understand. TAKE HIM!
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER. VERY INTERESTING. DON'T BUY THE BOOKS, YOU NEVER USE THEM. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GO TO HIS CLASS AND HIS TESTS ARE VERY EASY- THERE ARE ONLY THREE.
Bias agenda
loved his class cause he made it interesting... only thing is that he never used the books.
Best prof ever!! Def take him, soooo helpful but you need to show effort, then he'll even change your grade on tests! tests and a final, dont buy the book. Learned so much, made me really like economics. nicest guy! take take take!!!
He is the best teacher ever! Aside from doing the cute thing with his hands all the time the accent is great and he is a really good teacher. Fun class.
Prof. Yaghmaian made the class very interesting and informative. A lot of work, but he is flexible that you will not feel the pressure. I loved the class and loved the book he wrote"Embracing the Infidel" Thank you Prof.
best teacher ever. hes really nice, drops the first grade if you fail it and he feels that you try hard enough. No homework at all, dont bother buying the book.. he'll tell you to read a chapter but you dont even use that info in class. Take all your notes in class and review them, lots of studying isnt necessary.
Nice, smart, caring and one of the best teachers at ramapo, sometimes alot of work but its not a problem becasue he makes you want to do it, classes are always intersting.
knows what hes talking about...take him...he is willing to work with you if he thinks your trying and will even change your grade
he is a very hard professor and doesnt like to help you out when you are in need. if you like buisness then this class is definitely for you. i would recommend you take someone else.
he is a great professor. he does what he can to help you get a good grade. hes very personable and willing to work things out to benefit his students. def worth taking him. drops ur lowest test too! i enjoyed his class. no papers or anything.
An amazing professor. Very knowledgeable. Able to relay hard concepts efficiently. Hated the subject, but ended up being interested because of him. Highly recommended.
Pretty good teacher. Very knowledgable about economics, and makes sure you understand what you have to. All he cares about is that you show him that you've learned the material/are improving. He hates when people don't review from the last class before the next class. Definitely take him! He will get you through macroeconomics.
Very, very, very intelligent man. He humors all opinions and styles of thought. Pay attention or you miss everything. Converse in class or he will never know you. Do not think for a moment you will get away with plagiarism because he has read everything known to man. Hope you like to rave...
I'm not a business major and took this class because it would fulfill a Gen Ed/Elective, so I thought there would be more concepts and less graph stuff but I was wrong. Behzad, though, is very easy-going for a prof and seems sympathetic with his students' sucess in the class. Take the class if you're a business major.
Behzad is a great professor. Though some of the concepts are somewhat difficult he really makes them intresting. Ties in real life examples extremely well; only three tests if you study alot and go to class you should do fine. Pretty generous grader wants everyone to do well but wants you to learn alot material.
great professor who engages his students. heavy on class participation. no class participation, gets mad. must read the ny times, if not you're screwed. really helpful if you don't understand the concepts. pretty lenient on exams if you explain your answers to him. cool guy, take him!
Brilliant man. Really sparked my interest in economics. Its impossible to fall a sleep in his class because its that interesting. His class is 3 test. His test are right from the notes. Sometimes they can be unclear. But show up to class and show that you care and you will do more then fine. Always available for extra help, highly recomend.
Such a helpful, great teacher. Very personable, esp if you make the effort. Goes out of his way to help students. Three exams, but he drops the lowest grade. Doesnt take attendance but you miss a lot if you skip class. Recommended.
Nothing is taught out of the book.....if you don't understand a concept or miss one, your screwed. Ugh.....
One of the best Professors at Ramapo and one of the smartest. You cannot BS him cuz he will bring you down with all the knowledge he has. Great guy too. Definitely a professor to take. He will amaze you with all his knowledge about the world.
I had him for Global Economy of Political Capitalism and it is by no means an easy class. The paper is TOUGH and the exams are no walk in the park. HOWEVER, he is probably one of the best professors so I highly reccomend him. He is so intelligent and you will definitely learn. TAKE HIM!
Behzad is such a cool guy! He really wants you to do well! The tests are hard because there is a lot of material! If you talk to him, he will help you improve your grade. He is getting me through economics!
very difficult coursework, he's not helpful at all and takes it as an insult when you ask for help. grades extremely hard and doesn't award partial credit on exams. also, he thinks that he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I had this Professor when I was a student at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. I found Professor Yaghmaian to be highly intelligent, articulate, @ helpful. However, I was turned off by the fact that he had a tendency to inject his political views when they were totally not relevant to the course topic. His political views are very liberal.
One of the most open-minded and intelligent people i know. How many professors from Ramapo take their time to travel to China and live there for months to do a research? He did. As for the comment below, we have PLENTY of professors in Business major who will inject their political views MUCH MORE agressively then Behzad. He's a fresh air here.
I felt honored to be in his class. Behzad is extremely intelligent and he really knows his subject. Very dynamic personality. Unbelievably helpful if you show him you want to learn and do well in his class. Generous, and has the soul of a humanitarian. Loved his liberal political views. A real Gem. Take him!
Behzad is amazing! Really enjoyed the class and how he taught. Made you really want to learn about the subject being taught. Attendance is mandatory but no big deal cause class is interesting. If your someone who does not want to learn then dont take this. He expects alot from his students and always wants his students to succeed. Take him!
not an easy class, but very interesting, will learn alot. If you pay attention and let him know you want to learn he is willing to help you. Enjoyed his class very much.
I have him as a professor for Globalization and overall he is brilliant. He is very intellgent and interesting. We would be in class listening to this man speak and no one checks their watch or cellphone. Its hard to understand some of the readings but he tends to go over it in class. I just hope I pass!!! and FYI he loves marx
Political Econ. SW: Very smart, cool guy. Attendance a must and no cell phones! Hardly ever feel need to check time as class is very interesting. Had no interest before this but now can keep up with talk about economy. Asks that we read NY Times often, keep up to date with Worldy events. Takes time to explain lecture, take notes in class!
Had this professor for Political Economy of Social Welfare. He knows his stuff! However, he needs to slow down a little or teach it in a different way, the class was very confused. Maybe Im just not good at economics. but im a social work major for a reason!
Brilliant! His Immigration class is one of the most interesting I've ever taken. Very funny, intelligent, passionate professor. I wish he taught all of my classes!!!!!
I took him for History of Social Thought, expecting a course about exactly what the title says it is. However, he completely changed the curriculum. He turned the class into an economics class when most of the ppl there were Psych majors. It was very hard and very confusing and very unfair. He's smart but DON'T TAKE HIM FOR THIS CLASS.
I wouldn't recommend taking him to anyone. His grades don't reflect the amount of work put into the class. As of now, I hold a 3.7 GPA, but I expect a 'C' in his class, even though I worked for hours and hours on his paper. He looks for his student's to speak a certain type of "language" and if you don't get it then you're screwed.
This is by far the best class I have taken at Ramapo. Behzad is incredibly intelligent and you really feel like you are in the presence of an expert in the field. Class is never boring as he is always incorporating discussion, videos, newspaper articles and actual reports from NGOs. This is what college is supposed to be like!
Behzad is a great professor. He did take some creative license with the History of Social Thought curriculum Rather than spending one week on each theorist (skimming over, barely learning anything) he focused on a few and showed how they evolved. He's tough but fair and will help if you ask for it! He gives rewrites if you show him you're trying.
This class had tons of reading, but Behzad didn't expect us to read every word. He cares more about understanding the "narrative" and being able to write in accessible language. Used one of his own books as a text. He's can be a tough grader, but if you go to his office hours and show him you're trying, he'll work with you. I did and I got an A.
I've taken three different courses with Behzad during my time at Ramapo and they were by far my favorite courses. He made his requirements known in advance and he made the courses both challenging and interesting. If you do the work consistently and get creative you will do well. I would absolutely recommend taking any of his classes.
Took him for Political Economy of Social Welfare. I went into the class not interested at all. And came out so intrigued by everything Behzad had to say. He is brilliant and so funny. He gives work, because, this is college. But it is so worth it for the quality of his teachings. I would advise taking him whenever you can. Not an easy A.
Political Economy of Social Welfare-After Behzad's class, I understand alot more about politics, our monetary system, who influences who, and alot more that I would've never learned had it not been for this class. Awesome professor, interesting subject matter.
The man is a genious, Ramapo is lucky to have him. I had him for Globalization State and Society, I learned so much in this class, than any other. The man is brilliant!
The best class I have yet taken in my entire college career. I learned so much, and it all made sense. Behzad explains the material so well, that you are actually intrigued in learning more. Not an easy A have to earn what you work for. The best investment ever was taking his class.
As a student taking up a Human Rights & Genocide minor I took this class, but I should have chosen another class instead. This class partially focuses on Human Rights while the other half is economics. If I wanted to take a class on economics I would have taken another class. Prof Hangen's Int'l Migration is much better on discussing this topic.
This is not a Sociolgy Globalization Class. This is hardcore Economics. Extremely hard grader. Mid term & Final are 3 essays each on Economic policies. Prof Y is never in his office when he says he will be. Rarely responds to emails. Avoid Avoid Avoid
I took this for social work & found the class to be interesting, but stressful. I learned a lot, but if you're not ready to put time into reading, studying, and intensive note taking, this class isn't for you. There are 3 tests: 1 in class, 2 take home essays. They're not easy. If you want an easy class, take an easy professor for macroeconomics.
I'm a senior and had many different classes and professors. This class and the professor is the hardest and toughest grader I ever had in the past four years. Indeed, even counselors warned me to avoid this professor but he was the only one teaching it.
EXTREMELY hard grader, and horrible at explaining things on a level where you can understand. He scribbles his notes on the board and if you ask him, sometimes he doesn't even know what he wrote. STAY AWAY
I got an A+ for this course. Very easy. I suggest everyone to take him!
I needed this class for my Social Science major, I received a C- grade. He's brilliant with what he teaches and beyond knowledgable about the subject. There is a lot of material and a lot of reading, you must keep up with the readings in order to pass his class. There was a midterm, a final exam and a 10 page term paper.
He is probably the best professor at Ramapo. I actually learned something in his class. He explains everything so clearly and he's very passionate about the subject. He is not an easy professor but you really get something out of his class. He really is a brilliant man.
Behzad is one of the hardest professors in the Sociology department, however, he is also probably the most knowledgeable. The class is mostly lectures and he assigns many readings (which I often skimmed through); assignments only consists of a term paper and annotated bibliography aside from the midtermfinal. Challenging, but worth it.
Behzad is a great professor...I learned more in this class than in any of my other classes. Gives a lot of reading and you take lots of notes. He is always there if you need help and midterm/final is pretty easy, just study notes. Definitely worth taking his class!!
He is such a great professor! His lectures are very informative, you WILL learn something!!! His midterm and final are very tough - make sure you know the material. He likes things to be organized! Not much homework but there are articles to read. READING IS IMPORTANT!!!
He's a lot of work, but he's so passionate about what he teaches that I cannot tell you how much I learned about the world in one semester. There's a lot of readings, including those from his own book, but he is such an interesting guy and discussion in class was always fantastic. Would so recommend, he actually taught me something.
This man is a genius! Chances are that most things he lectures will probably go over your head because this course is no where near taught in k-12 education. If you're willing to learn and put in effort, this guy will fill your brain with information about the world that you've never even thought about before!
This class was very difficult for me to sit through. Yes some of his lectures are interesting if he is able to capture your attention, but once you doze off for a few minutes, you get lost in what he is saying. He hates repeating himself but does try to explain things. Its hard taking notes since he does ramble on about the topic. Would not take.
This was the second class I took with him, he's great. He is very lecture heavy so you really can't afford to miss class. All his assessments are papers. If he sees improvement, he will push up your grade. Get ready to read. Don't take this class if you don't think it'll be interesting, it's a lot of information.
This is the best teacher, by far, I have ever had. He makes you work hard, but it's because it's important to him that his students learn something meaningful in his class. He completely changed my understanding of migration, as someone who was already well informed. Even if his classes aren't required, I recommend everyone takes him.
Behzad's great! He's very passionate about the topic and you learn a lot. HOWEVER, don't take him if you're looking for an easy-A, or if you're not a morning person. He makes you work for it, and some concepts can be hard to grasp. But he tries his best to make sure you learn it, but only if he sees that you're putting in the effort to learn.
This class is extremely lecture heavy, with a few discussions here and there. However, Behzad is extremely knowledgeable on the topic and has many different stories to tell as well. The class consisted of A midterm and final for 80% of your grade. And a few mini assignments for the rest. If you show up to every class and take notes you'll get an A.
Behzad is a really smart guy, but he is extremely opinionated. He doesn't use powerpoints, and hates repeating himself. He nitpicks little stuff from the readings and makes huge questions about it on the exam. Avoid unless you seriously have to take him. He shows no mercy and must be the hardest grader I've ever seen. Hardcore political economy.
Only 2 testes but they are difficult. Gives 5 pop quizzes throughout the semester.
He is a very nice and caring guy. He knows a lot about the subject. Class consists of a midterm, final and term paper. The questions for the midterm and final are quite hard, but manageable if you go to class. But, if you do not go to class you basically fail because the textbooks are useless. If you take notes and show up, it should be an easy A.
He is extremely knowledgeable in the material. He really wants you to do the best and actually know the material well. Since it was virtual, he didnt know too much on how to use Webex but I think he did a good job with keeping us awake at 8am. Just do your readings and do the homework. Participate! Please! Class is so much better.
The man tortured me in 2 classes for 4 months. Taught political econ instead of material. Textbooks won't help. Don't take if you can avoid it. He's smart but everyone hated his classes, disregard the positive reviews. He is merciless with grading. Had to take P grades so it wouldn't tank my GPA. Poor feedback, no makeups. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
I had him for political economy of social welfare. If I had to take the class again I would. Most of his answers are in the lectures. I would write down everything he says or ask for the lectures to be recorded. He is accessible outside of the class and will take the time for you. It was a difficult class however it will make you a more educated.
SW major here and Political Economy or economy is a requirement. Behzad will require you to stay up to date with readings & current events. If you cant handle that perhaps drop out because school will only get harder from here on out. If you want to coast, take another professor. If you want someone who is passionate and brilliant take this class.
He is very willing to give extensions on papers. But if you do not read prior to class, you will fall behind and it will get confusing very fast.
Behzad's a good guy, and very intelligent, but he gets into this certain way of lecturing where he can dive so specific on a certain topic that you just get lost in the sauce. He holds nothing against people who don't agree with him, but he is very opinionated. He also has a book that HE wrote as part of the course material, which is just silly.
Professor Yaghmaian's lectures are long and incredibly detailed and taking notes is expected. He likes participation and requires your camera to be on. He gives 5 reading reviews, 2 movie reviews, a midterm, a final, and an "experiential component" which is quite easy. His class is not incredibly hard to pass if you do the work and listen.
Grades off of very few assignments. The best advice is just to pay attention in class, take notes based on what he says, and hand in your assignments. He gives amazing and inspirational lectures and I would recommend taking him if you're like-minded (he's left-leaning politically) to better understand his lectures. Very sweet man and understanding
This was not the easiest class to take however if you pay attention to the lectures, take notes, and be thorough on your assignments you'll be fine. Professor Yaghmaians lectures are very interesting and he really wants students to understand the information. Overall he is a very good professor.
Behzad is an amazing professor. Gives incredibly informative lectures and amazing feedback. He's also super sweet! You will like him if you participate and pay attention and show you enjoy coming to class. Attendance isn't mandatory but honestly, missing 1 class is missing a lot of content that you need on his exams.
This professor does not give us notes or write them down, it is all verbal. He was tough on me for no reason or discrimination. I proved it when my classmate and I did a paper together. We had the same information but with our own terms and ideas. yet he graded my classmate with a 26/30 and me a 19/30. I ran out of space so I can't say more.
The professor did not post much. Rambles a lot. Gives A LOT of Pop Quizzes. And grading is ineffective. Missing class is not recommended.
He's a really nice guy to talk to, but in a group setting he's not really the best. I took his virtual classes because that was all that was available. He assumes since we're looking at our screens that we pay attention, even though we don't understand what he says. His papers are also too much, especially with a full workload on top. Be careful.
