Worst prof ever. I felt I had to agree with her on everything or I would not get a decent grade.
Fairly easy class if you show up. She mixes up the class with guest speakers, videos, and exercises to make it more fun. she's very into her own ideas so don't try and contradict her. she offers tons of extra credit. her exams are EXTREMELY difficult so make sure to use the book for those.
Energetic speaker & amazing guest speakers. Diversity was the most valuable class I've taken at UW-Milwaukee. There is a lot of material and homework, so no, it isn't an easy A. But the experiences you will have will make it more than worth the effort. Highly recommended.
She's a great professor, understanding, caring and the class is very inspirational. However, when it comes to exams, you're on your own. Lectures are rarely covered because of group projects and other in class activities, which are useful, but won't help when it comes to exams.
She is a bad teacher. Class time is group presentation with little lecturing. The exams are on her lectures so you are left with no help or explanation of the material. I asked for help and she basically told me to read the material. She was apparently too busy. NEVER NEVER TAKE a class from her as she is not helpful at all.
She's a a bad professor. Most of the class time is taken up with student projects, she seldom lectures and the exams are on "lecture" material which she does not cover. She does not answer emails or attend office hours. If you are trying to get a decent grade you don't get any help from Ragins. Save yourself - take a different class.
Simple class that doesn't need to last as long as it does, so she ends up filling class time with activities and videos. Grade is dependent on: attendance, 2 short essays, term paper, group project, and 2 exams (none are difficult). Ragins encourages discussion, but likes to have her own beliefs affirmed. Don't bother with the book/readings pack.
She is clearly passionate about the course, but to a point that makes you uncomfortable. She made us purchase a Diversity Handbook from an outside source that was not cheap, and justified it by allowing us to use it on her (extremely difficult for no reason) exam (the book did not help by the way). Her grading technique is so vague, good luck.
This is not a good class. Diversity is good is the entire class. Save your time. You learn nothing in this class. The exams are from the overly expensive handbook. She does really lecture. mostly activities and guest speakers. Class is a joke.
Ragins is a true believer in diversity but she is so intense that she does not want discussion she wants everyone to agree with her. Her views may be correct but she does not explain why we should all believe her point of view. Exams are not on lectures. She is not available before, or after class for discussion and she does not answer email.
In the class I participated, came to class, did my assignment . I had to change my work schedule and tried to work with the professor and she would not help. Diversity of work schedule- forget Ragins help. The workbook and the activities didn't really teach me anything. I was being talked down to when I went to her for questions.
Terrible class. Professor is rude. Not interested in students. Useless class. Most time spent on group projects. Exams not related to anything from class. Professor too busy to help.
Bad class. In class written exams with unclear questions over material not covered in class. Supposed to read diversity package to understand class. Don't ask professor for help... she won't help. Literally she will NOT help or answer questions. Useless group projects.
Bell may not be the best lecturer, but the class itself is enjoyable. You are able to simply discuss with other students and hear from guest speakers. Almost everything is graded pass fail and some of the assignments were almost identical to assignments I've done in level 100 classes. Sure I didn't learn a ton of new stuff but its an easy A.
I took the class because of my work schedule. Bad class. Unclear exam questions. Ragins grading is arbitrary. Avoid this class.
This Diversity course with Belle was AMAZING. One of my favorite courses at UWM. I come from a very diverse background and I was still able to learn so much. I would say the only thing I didn't like was the exam contents. I attended every class and participated, but the exams were somewhat different than anticipated.
If you are interested in opening your mind to new perspectives about race, religion, sexism and every other touchy subject, this class is for you. You have no HW but have a couple papers that are mostly about your perspective on things. Book report: I got an audio book and listened that way. Belle is extremely caring. The participation is easy
Guest speakers and group projects for this class. The exams instructions and questions are unclear. I am a latino and learned nothing from this class. I am diversity. I wanted to learn how to explain my experiences to other people so they could understand talk about discrimination. Not this class. Ragins oversells this useless class.
Avoid this class! Bad teacher. Waste of time. Hard exams that are not related to anything from class.
This class is useless. Ragins give hard exams over things we have not gone over in class. Ragins does NOTHING in the class. It is people who have faced discrimination coming in and telling you about their lives. Ragins then gives exams that have not been covered!! Useless.
I received a good grade for the class but hated the class. Avoid this class.
Professor is abusive. A clear case of a socio path who could not make it in job outside of academia.
This class was super easy! It's an online format with 1 weekly meeting. Attendance is mandatory for a grade. Belle keeps the meetings short and informative. As long as you have the textbook and lectures/readings open for reference during the exams they are relatively easy. There are several papers/projects but they are not complicated and quick.
Terrible class. The professor will not help you in anyway. I asked repeatedly for help on assignments. She would not help! She would not answer email. She would not meet during office hours!!
Terrible experience.
This class is terrible. The professor does not tell you how she grades. Then takes points away for not meeting her expectations that she won;t tell you what they are!!
Bad class. Avoid.
Terrible class.
Professor is so unclear about grading and exams are unrelated to anything from class. Do not take this class.
This class is so unclear about what are the assignments, and everything. The professor dislikes students. She makes it clear that she wants the students to go away so she can work on her important research. What a joke.
Dr Bell is terrible. She is too busy to answer questions or gelp a student. This is a good class made bad by a bad teacher.
Terrible class. Assignments are stupid and grading is random. Professor is Terrible.
The tests are unrelated to the class. Professor won't talk to students. She is completely absent. She won't answer emails. Wont contact students. Do not take this class.
Ragins does not teach. Ragins demands that her perfect standards are achieved. She does not teach, mentor, or couch. Ragins criticizes.
Professor talks at students. Assignments are unclear. Do not take this class.
Dr. Ragins's BUS ADM 996 seminar was my favorite. I only wish I had taken it earlier so I could have built a stronger foundation in organizational behavior at the start of my PhD program. I loved the feedback session a lot, which allowed me to receive constructive feedback for the course project, which became the foundation for my dissertation.
Professor Ragins was engaging, lively, and truly caring. She created a respectful, inclusive classroom and was incredibly understanding of my health needs. Her course was well-organized, and encouraged real learning. She clearly put time into making the class rigorous and enjoyable. I felt supported, respected, and grateful to be in her class.
I left every class feeling more discouraged than the last. Dr. Ragins is more focused on hearing herself talk than teaching students. There was no encouragement or constructive feedback. It felt like a performance rather than a supportive learning environment. If you're looking for mentorship, look elsewhere.
She was very accommodating, allowing me to take her seminar despite being a student outside the college of business. The requirements of her course were challenging, which is what I needed from a doctoral course. She prepared me incredibly well for the dissertation phase of my program. I am a better scholar because of her teaching and mentorship.
Ragins created a hostile unsupportive environment. She expected full professor scholarship from a 1st year PhD student. She was unwilling to actually offer guidance or mentorship to help me grow. I felt abandoned and belittled. I went to the university to work with Ragins. I left the university because of her.
Ragins was my PhD advisor. It was the most emotionally draining experience. She offer little emotional or intellectual support. I had to rely on the kindness of other faculty to guide me in my personal growth. Ragins was unavailable for help.
Dr. Ragins is a well know researcher on mentoring. Dr. Ragins can research mentoring but she has no ability to engage in mentoring. Sadly I trusted her promised and left the PhD program. My interactions with Dr. Ragins were literally emotionally damaging.
Dr. Ragins is such a caring professor for this class. We covered so many different topics of diversity and were able to share our experiences in a safe environment. Doing this class over Zoom could have hindered the information gained from this class, but the structure allowed for growth and provided an uplifting place.
Dr. Belle Ragins was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared for her students. She created a safe space for meaningful conversations and made diversity come alive through real-world examples and empathy.
Students are the audience. I got a c. I turned in all assignments and was on every meeting. Professor would not respond to emails about my low grade.
Bad class. Avoid this professor.
The professor created a hostile environment. I could not express myself.
Dr. Ragins is a good researcher but she lacks the interpersonal skills to be an effective teacher. She sets high expectations but offers no help or guidance on how to meet those expectations.
Professor is not helpful. I got covid and missed classes and assignments. Professor did not reply my emails, phone calls, or zoom meeting requests. Very unhelpful.
Course Title: Leadership in Diversity and Inclusion The quality of the curriculum demonstrates Dr. Ragins' expertise as a seasoned researcher and teacher. Our reading materials were data-driven, peer-reviewed, and comprehensive. Dr. Ragins' lecture notes were also helpful in breaking down some of the dense statistics presented in our readings.
Ragins is good researcher, but she is not good at developing scholars. She is very narrow in research interests and is not able to help people in areas outside her small area of expertise. She is demanding and does not help or teach. You basically teach yourself or fail.
Dr. Ragins created a hostile learning environment. Dr. Ragins would not make time to help me with my research and I dropped the class. Dr. Ragins was too busy to help a struggling student.
This is a bad class. Grading is unclear. Assignments are confusing. Professor will not help.
Ragins turns a journey of intellectual growth into a nightmare trip. No encouragement or help. Do not take any classes from ragins.
I never felt comfortable or safe in Ragins' seminar. I felt that if I made a mistake it would be held against me. I tried to get Ragins to help me and she was dismissive of me.
This professor is more discussion- based on curriculum topics. Students interaction is highly used for class discussions. Professor is flexible when it comes to unforeseen incidents in regards to attendance or making up work. The professor is passionate in the subject mattes of her course which leads to enthusiasm for teaching her courses.
I have taken many undergraduate and graduate classes, but this is the most impactful and relevant. Every leader and student should take it. In today's diverse and divided culture, this course is essential. It helps us understand history's impact, builds empathy for different cultures and genders, and prepares us to lead with humanity and awareness.
Ragins is really a bad teacher. Agree with everything she says. Have no opinions about anything.
My experience in this class was bad. Unclear grading. Unclear assignments. The professor was unavailable and not helpful.
My experience was bad. The course material is maybe useful but Ragins is not the person to be teaching the material. We all do need to build empathy for everyone. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. I did not receive that in this class.
Ragins is self-focused and my experience is she did not care about my learning experiences. Her feedback felt like I was being dismissed. I asked questions and I got dismissed with no actual support. The class did not feel like it was about education. I do not recommend this class.
Ragins is a well known researcher in mentoring but she is toxic. Hypercritical, lacks empathy, and creates a hostile environment. Obsessive about minor details. 4 or 5 PhD graduates in decades of menbtoring says it all—avoid if you value your sanity.
amazing class and lectures professor belle is always there for her students and is such an amazing person! she grades fair
Professor is uncaring and unavailable for the students. I felt overlooked and my input wasn't valued. Not a supportive environment.
Assignments are not clear. Grading seems random. Professor did not return emails.
I had a bad experience with Ragin. In my opinion, she was more punitive than supportive. I tried to meet expectations. I found her to be demanding, unreasonably rigid, and dismissive. She presents herself as a mentor, but I experienced her as more of a tormentor. Working with her left me feeling discouraged and disrespected.
Rude, condescending, abd unavailable for help. This diversity class was all vague, feelings and talk class, No practical skills or support for minorities dealing with real discrimination. Hugely disappointing. I did not agree with prof and felt marinalized for asking for real insights.
Ragins in her PhD seminar promised guidance but gave none. Excellent at publishing papers but unreliable in mentoring. Disregards student needs. Avoid her if you seek real support. Her priority was her publishing not my progress.
I attended every class. Ragins grading is unclear and she would not arrange a time to meet with me to help me understand the expectations of the class. I was very disappointed with the expert on mentoring who seemed unwilling to mentor.
Professor Belle is such an amazing professor. She clearly knows what she is teaching and makes sure we all understand her material. 10/10 professor and would absolutely have her as a professor again I could've! You won't regret taking her class!
Professor Ragins was great. She not only listened but she heard everyone. She made sure our class was a safe place where everyone had a voice. She also made sure that we understood exactly what Diversity, Equity and Inclusion really is and why it's so important. I learned so much in her class and I still have the banned books that she assigned.
This class is a waste of time. The professor has no time for students. The grading is unclear. Do not take this class.

Waste of time. The professor doesn't explain anything.
Ragins is no mentor. Ragins is no guide. My experience is Ragins was not helpful in my phd program. I dropped out.
Professor knows textbooks but has no knowledge of real issues of diversity. She talks about herself and show she knows very little about real discrimination. She does not engage in class discussions. She talks at students.
Ragins' exams are unrelated to any in class. She will not help students. She is unavailable for questions. She was not available during office ho.
Everything about this class is unclear. I had no idea how to get a good grade. Professor would not answer emails and she seemed to be uninteresed in students.
I went to uwm as a phd student, excited to be mentored by an expert in the field. I left the phd program feeling abandoned and devalued by Ragins.
Grading is unclear. Avoid the class.
I attended every session. I turned in the assignments. I could not get the professor to explain why my grades were so low. She had no time to help me.
The lectures were unclear. The grading was unclear. The professor when asked to explain ideas got hostile.
Don't bother reading the book. Canvas is not used in this class and you have to reference a document to see all the content of the class instead of just checking canvas.
Professor teaches diversity but has no real diversity experience. She dismisses real voices. She is condescending, tone-deaf, and talks theory. Avoid if you value authentic, inclusive discussions and respectful dialogue.
Never take this class. I wish I looked at rmp before taking ragins. The bad reviews are deserved.
Ragins does not mentor. She does not teach. Avoid.
I attended all classes, did the work, turned in all assignments. I got a D and the professor will not answer email or calls to explain the low grade.
Do not take this class. Professor is unhelpful.
The grading for this class is unclear. The professor will not answer emails or arrange meetings. You are on your own trying to understand how to get a good grade.
Ragins was my phd advisor. She made my life miserable. I did not learn from her. I endured the abuse.
Ragins created a toxic environment where compliance with her direction was more important than learning.
Ragins wants you to know she is the smartest person in the room. Constantly talks about herself instead of teaching. Condescending, demanding, but unhelpful. Avoid.
I foolishly thought an expert in mentoring would be a mentor. Sadly, I was wrong and suffered as a result.
Ragins drove me out of the phd program at uwm.
I tried to work with Ragins as a doctoral student. It was a miserable experience of being undermined emotionally and intellectually.
Avoid this class. Do not take.
Ragins doesn't teach. She demands perfection with no instruction.
Never take ragins.
Uncaring. Unclear guidelines. No guidance.
Belle genuinely cares about the learning of her students and is one if the best professors I have had at UWM. She is always there for her students and gives good feedback on assignments. I lover her lectures.
Professor Ragins is an amazing teacher. She really cares a lot about what she is teaching us, and she checks in on all of her students. She makes sure to get to know her students on a more personal level, and I she has allowed me to view a profession in diversity and leadership in the future!
Dr. Belle brings a smile to every class. She truly cares about her students. I highly recommend this course! Leadership in Diversity & Inclusion helped me reflect on my own experiences and learn from my classmates in a thoughtful learning environment. I enjoyed our diversity in the news videos and presentations, class discussions, and assignments.
Dr. Ragins is an amazing professor, this class is one that I recommend to every student. Participation matters but it is up to the student how much they would like to share their thoughts. This professor really cares about her student's success and wants to advocate for her students as best as possible.
Belle you are abusive.
Ragins fake smile hides an uncaring professor.
Do not take bell ragins . Unclear. Unclear assignments, unclear grading . Ragi n s does not answer emails. Ragins will not meet or help.
Ragins was the worst professor i have ever taken in my undergraduate or graduate courses.
Ragins has no empathy or compassion for students.
This course was amazing. I actually learned a lot and looked forward to class because it was great discussion. She was was really flexible too which was helpful with working full time.
I regret taking this class. Ragins is inflexible and rigid. Ragins demands student perfection. Mistakes and learning are punished.
This was by far the best class that I took as part of the online MBA program. Professor Belle is great!
Belle was a fantastic professor! I would recommend her and this class to all people. She is such a bright light and showed up every class ready to help us learn. I will miss this class and professor Belle
Belle is incredible! She brings so much passion, empathy, and genuine care into her teaching. I highly recommend take a class of hers.

Bell was not helpful. I asked for details about what she wanted and got nothing. Bell would not make time to meet and discuss expectations.
Bad class. Just bad.
bell loves talking about her accomplishments. She is not willing to help teach, guide, or mentor. I was an audience for bell. It was a bad experience. avoid this professor.
Don't take this class. Prof will not respond to emails. I repeatedly emailed asking and asking for help. No response.
This course was one of the few courses I found both educational and inspirational. The shared conversations I had with the professor and classmates provided me with new perspectives and gave me comfort that I wasn't the only person having experiences in the world.
Professor Belle was INCREDIBLE and this class changed my life!
Inspirational professor! Learned so much in this class! Highly recommend this course for all students!!!!! Easy to handle in busy semester. Absolutely should take this class!!!!
Ragins offers fake support. No real empathy or understanding. Avoid this class. It is not worth it.
Ragins was my advisor. It was a bad experience. Unclear directions. Blame for anything not perfect.
Nothing inspirational about ragins. I learned nothing except that some people have large egos.
The independent study was not supportive. Simple mistakes associated with normal learning were not accepted.
ragins created a hostileandr unhealthy classroom environment. In the military we describe that as a toxic leader. the instructor may have a strong self belief but my experience is not consisten with a supportive leader.
Working with the professor was a bad experience. I received criticism. No guidance or encouragement.
Professor is unclear, unhelpful, uncommunictive, and created an unwelcomming environment.
I have nothing goid to report about this class. Overall a bad experience.
This independent study emotionally drained me. I was undermined both intellectually and emotionally. I cried after my interactions with the instructor.
