great! easy, but still informative. all multiple choice tests. gives reviews for the tests. if you answer them beforehand, you will make an A. very laidback. already signed up for his other classes.
if you come to class at least everyone other day your fine. oh and if you like watching clips from the daily show and simpsons get him! super easy and layed back class.
Provides information that you need to know... but sometimes material can be boring. Powerpoint presentations always reviewed the next class to keep you up to date.
Pathetically easy class. Almost to the point of being a waste of time. I missed 10 full days, never took notes, never studied until the day before a test and made an A+ in the class. Lectures are brutally boring, and the material is so elementary that if you don't score well in this class, you probably don't belong in college at all.
BORING! pretty easy but seriously boring. Luckily he allows quite a few absences, but pretty easy class.
A good teacher, i def reco him. Take him and u'll def get a B or A
Super Easy. Allows eight absences before he does anything. Posts powerpoints online, just review those for quizzes--easy A. Don't really need textbook, can easily get A without it! Take him!
Had lots of fun with this one. If your interested in politics, it's super easy, but if your not, why would you take it anyway? I suggest this professor for sure! Not a whole lot of material was really covered in this course. Nice to have once in a while.
Super easy class, would definitely recommend. He puts a review sheet up on tracs, if you do it you will pass the test.
I took him for both sections of govt. Attendance is based mostly on his Grad Assts. I missed class 14 times and got counted once. He is funny and made this class interesting especially for someone who cared very little about the government. Fun during election year!
Prof. Arnold is a great teacher. Definitely interested in what he teaches. If you take notes and go to class, there should be no problem getting an A or a B. I recommend.

Professor Arnold is awesome! He is a great professor and keeps you entertained. Knows what his stuff. It was fun to have him during election year, although I couldn't really tell if he was Dem. or Rep. Anyway I would definitely recommend him!
I had him during the elections, and he is strangely fairly conservative. He brings up alot of interesting points and teaches pretty well. Go to the SI Sessions before the test and normally all the information will be hand fed to you. He relates to the class alot when it comes to partying on the weekends. haha
very cool class, read the book to know the terms
Cool Guy, and very conservative. His class is easy if you just show up and take notes. You will get an A if you put some effort!
EASY CLASS. I don't necessarily suggest Poli Sci majors to take his class, but if your not and looking for an easy A, here's your professor. Go to class, take notes, go over your notes prior to quizzes and tests. He says that the book is 20% of it, but I barely read it b/c I thought it was awful and still got an A. He gives a final grade curve.
Ben is a pretty cool professor and easy to understand. Take him if you can!!
Arnold is awesome. He doesn't put you to sleep and wants to have fun too. He tries to incorporate real life situations into his lectures, and utilizes youtube.
GREAT PROF and GREAT CLASS!!! He makes learning interesting and fun, and can really relate to students.
One of my favorite professors. Go to class. Take notes. Go the the review session (assuming you have a good TA). And you'll get an A. He uses the book a bit on the tests and quizzes, but not extensively. I survived without reading. Great Prof :)
super easy :) review is exactly like test. Some studying is required of course but he makes it easy to grasp the concepts. Also study sessions are held before the test with the TA
He was pretty funny! I really enjoyed his lectures! I rarely used the book, listened to his lectures and took good notes and pulled an A. I'd also recommend going to the review sessions that the TAs hold!
Pretty easy class, but its easy because he relates everything to current events and reality. Its not just political theory and memorizing names and abstractions. In fact, there's very little of that. Also, I didn't even buy the book but took good notes and never missed a class and I snagged a solid A.
Kept the class entertained
He's a pretty good professor, I'd suggest attending class if you want to do well. Tests come from lecture and a bit from book. He doesn't put much effort into hiding how right wing he is, and has a couple of offensive, ignorant, and idiotic viewpoints, but other than that he is good and I wouldn't let it scare you away. Study and you will do fine.
Worst Teacher ever. I know everyone loves Arnold, but its because they like a freebie. He is ideologue who should be preaching, not teaching. He only likes students who agree with his antiquated ideas, and yells at the ones who don't. Big fat waste of time.
if your not interested in polisci and just need to get it out of the way, take arnold. hes entertaining and fairly easy if you go to class and pay attention. tests are multiple choice and he provides helpful reviews. take this class for sure.
Arnold is a good teacher and a pretty personable guy. I'm fairly conservative, but Arnold's religious-based reasons for his political views were a bit agitating. Don't let it scare you away however, as taking a class with Arnold is well worth it. He doesn't play games, ask trick questions, and always tells you what he expects. Take him if possible.
Professor Arnold is well-prepared and his classes are always interesting. He allows for the students to engage in debate on issues, and he will sometimes play devil's advocate when appropriate.
I was an educator in the public school system for 13 years before deciding on a career change, and while Professor Arnold is, in my opinon, a very good educator and a nice man, he's perhaps the most biased professor I've ever encountered. He constantly talks sown about liberals, and will distort history to serve his own, conservative viewpoint.
Professor Arnold's lectures and exams are pretty easy to understand, but it's if you study the right things. He explains in his lectures alot that he doesn't cover everything. But DON'T BE LATE!
Nice professor who makes things interesting but he really should stop including his political views in his lectures. I'm a pretty apolitical person and he taught this class from an entirely conservative viewpoint, which irked alot of people.
Ben Arnold is awesome! he is a cool guy that loves sports. we had to watch the Texas Rangers play in class one time cus he didnt want to miss the game! Oh and dont buy the book, you wont use it. Take him for sure!
Arnold is a cool dude. He definitely knows whats up. Tests are not hard at all. Gives study guides that are like the test. Attendance is mandatory but gives you a lot of room to miss.
Great professor, just go to class take notes, fill out the study guide, do the discussion board when there is one and it's cake. Passionate about Political Science made it pretty interesting
I loved this class! He was extremely knowledgable on the subject and tests were a piece of cake IF you did the study guide. He was very forgiving in regards to the Democracy "club" attendance - i'm a single mom, so club attendance was hard. I highly recommend him if you might have an interest in POSI.
One of the best professors and classes i've had. His lectures are clear and organized, and you will walk out of class feeling like you just learned a TON of information. As a professor he is also very personable and fun to listen to. I recieved an A+ in his class- I highly recommend him!
Great teacher. Doesn't make you buy a textbook. I have taken him three times and made an A each time. Very easy on attendance but it is mandatory.I highly recommend him.
Taken several of his classes and have enjoyed every single one of them. The only negatives I see on here are about his views but its not like the lefties are soft spoken about their own views. You can miss up to two or three weeks of class. Pay attention and take notes and you will make an A. Favorite professor I have had at Texas State.
Great Professor! Easy A if you listen to him in class and read the book. He lets you miss i think 8 classes before he take you down a letter (which sucks for an easy A class)
I found Prof. Arnold to be really unbiased in his lectures. I'm a die-hard liberal and didn't see even the slightest attempt by him to serve his own agenda (if he even has one). I enjoyed his lectures and found his class to be pretty easy.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! He's really funny and always makes his lectures somewhat exciting. I didn't buy the book but still managed to receive an A in his class. I definitely recommend taking him. The only grades in his class were easy 100 discussion boards and tests which he gives you a review to study from! TAKE HIM!!
He's a great teacher, class is so easy, I suck at government and I passed the class. He rarely shows his governmental ideology.
He is a great professor! This class is interesting and pretty easy. If you go to all the lectures expect to make at least a b. I've gotten over a 100 on all of my exams and really didn't study that much. Also he says that you need to read the book but its honestly not necessary. I haven't and I have been fine. I am taking him again next semester!
LOVED! Took this class during the summer. He makes the class interesting and so relevant to those not interested, like me! He helps you see why political science IS INTERSTING!
Great Professor and makes his class interesting, but this class is definitely more lecture based than anything and his exams are usually over what is covered in them. Made it hard to get an A since I'm a visual learner but great class, I definitely grew more interest in government.
Arnold is relaxed and funny at times. Come to class! 70% lecture base, 30% textbook. Allows laptops. 3 tests and 5 discussion board. Test similar to review. Exams not cumulative. Many opportunities for in class discussion. Easy class if you show up, listen, engage, and study.
Great teacher! His lectures were easy to understand and very interesting!!
Professor Arnold is passionate and really cares about what he is teaching. He also breaks things down in a way that is easy to understand.
Arnold has been my favorite professor so far. My first semester I managed to get a B and I never studied, this semester I am getting an A. His class is really simple. Just do the reviews before the exam and you ace it! I never used the book.
BEST PROF EVER. Took him for both semesters, teaches whatever he wants (completely different than other classes) you don't need the textbook and he gives a review for all his tests
This class is very easy! Not only that, but you can tell he is very passionate about what he teaches and it actually got me interested in politics.
He is very interesting and knowledgeable. The tests are very straightforward and follow the lessons. Go to class and review your material and you will get a good grade.
SO EASY it almost seems like this shouldn't be a college class. The tests are super simple. Go to the IA review session. I'm gonna take Ben next semester. He's the best Poli Sci teacher here!! TAKE HIM. You can be absent up to 8 classes. Only 3 tests. That's it. Super easy. Don't buy the textbook. All the info comes from power points
Love Arnold!! If you pay attention, do the discussion boards, do the review you will pass with flying colors! Never gives out homework and doesn't require you to remember random dates.
Great Professor! Gives you a crystal clear guide on how to get the grade you want. DO NOT SKIP! You have 3 Tests all semester with one of them being the final. Warning: I took this class in the morning and as much as I love history I found it hard to stay awake so try for a non 9am!
Such a laid back professor. Somehow manages to make PoliSi interesting, and he gives amazing reviews that make studying a breeze.
Absences don't hurt you until the 8th one but if you go to class and take good nights its an easy A. Great professor and I strongly recommend taking him! Know the test reviews and you'll do well! I only studied the review and got a 101 on the first test. Really easy test format too.
His class was so easy. His TA held review sessions for us. His lectures were posted onto TRACS. His lectures weren't bad and he tried to be interactive even though the class was in Alkek. His tests aren't hard if you do the review and study a bit. I'm taking him again next semester for 2320
He is a great professor and gives great notes. You get what you put into the class so if you do all the assignments and study for the tests well you will get a good grade. Tests are fair and he offers extra credit points on every one. He goes over everything in class so if you go and pay attention you will do well.
Ben is a fantastic professor. His class is pretty easy if you show up and take good notes. Don't expext to rely on the power points he posts online, you have to listen and write down what he says during his lectures. There are 5 discussion boards and 3 exams. Show up, do the easy A discussion boards and study for the exams and it's an easy A.
Don't need the book, print out PowerPoint notes BEFORE class and then take notes from his lecture. Three tests, very easy if you dostudy the review. One page (double spaced) Discussion boards, no quizzes. If you cannot pay attention for long periods of time then this class is not for you. Success is attainable if you can manage to stay awake!
This man was by far the best professor I took all semester. Lectures are engaging and I enjoyed the material he talked about. He has study guides that if you do you'll surely make a low A or high B. His TA holds a study sesh which is helpful. Learned a lot from him and actual understand politics! 5 discussion boards- easy. Overall a great class!
Overall, this was a great first class to take as a first time student at Texas State. Ben is a great lecturer and genuinely cares about the subject he is teaching. His lectures are interesting and I definitely felt like I learned a lot in this class. He uses a few questions from the book but I was still able to get an A just by the notes.
Very boring speaker. You dont have to physically be in class, you can just scan in and leave (but remember to go back and scan out!) You can look at the powerpoints on TRACs and get an idea of the test. You can also attend the study session. I got the book and used it once the first week. Got an 85 and i skipped out about two months of class.
Arnold was a pretty good professor, super chill guy. His lectures can get boring but he has a lot of essential information you need to know for tests. Take good notes and study for the tests and you will go out of the class with at least a B. 8 absence maximum so don't get too carried away!
I love Ben Arnold. He says attendance is "mandatory" but you have up to 8 absences before it does anything to your grade.
Ben is a great teacher. This will be my second time taking a class with him, because he is so good at what he does. Unfortunately, most students don't give him the respect he deserves. His discussion boards are a cake walk, his tests are super easy - just go to class! I hardly used the book last class, probably not going to this time around also.
The goals of this class we're very clear and lectures we're entertaining. Reading was not essential to the class, if you go to class and take notes you will b fine. All in all, it was an easy A, would definitely recommend this class.
As long as you go to class, you should be fine. His reviews are basically the exam. I bought the book and didn't use it at all. I would definitely take him again if I could. He makes it bearable!
I loved this class! I had zero interest in politics before this required course, but I have since changed my mind. Very interesting class, we followed what was going on in current elections as well as learned the history of how our political system came to be. He kept us interested with little asides, but never got too far off track.
AMAZING. i had ZERO interest in politics until i took this class. i have him only once a week as a night class for 3hours and he lectures the whole time with only a ten minute break, but you hardly notice because he is so engaging. exams are super easy if you do the review guide he gives. gives 3exams including final. allowed 4 absences. TAKE HIM
Seriously loved this class. He is such a good professor and really gives you an understanding about political science! The tests are super easy and if you do the reviews you will be fine for the test. Definitely take his class!
Only 3 tests and 5 discussion boards. If you just do the discussion boards you will get a 100. Super easy, you don't really have to pay attention to the class. Do the review and study it. Helps for tests a lot.
There are 3 test and 5 discussion boards. This class was pretty easy. If you study moderately you will get an easy A.
Great teacher. He actually makes politics somewhat interesting. Got an A in the class!
Mr. Arnold was a great professor, you can tell he really likes what he's teaching! But you really need to be in class to expect to get good grades! But h lectures are actually enjoyable if you pay attention, and don't forget to do his online discussion boards!
If I could take his class again, I would. I took him for both my POSI classes. Great professor. Some topics might be boring to discuss but he does his best to make things interesting. Do the study guides, discussions boards, go to class and ACTUALLY pay attention, and you'll have your A. Hands down one of the best professors I've had here!
Arnold makes the lectures very interesting and easy to understand while being thorough. He likes to make little jokes here and there that make class much more bearable. The tests aren't difficult at all if you pay attention in class and study your notes. He gives you all of the test reviews at the beginning of the semester. I recommend this class.
Great teacher, cracks jokes and is probably one of the only people on campuse who isn't left wing.
Class lecture are interesting to listen too. Very funny. If you miss class it's not biggie. Notes can be found on resources in TRACS. Tests are easy if you study the power points and read the textbook. Pop quizzes once in a while but he'll most likely inform you a day before! Overall a good professor!
Pop quizzes are easy, if you go to class
Professor Arnold was perhaps the most knowledgeable professor I have had this year. He is no BS though. But he actively engages students comments or questions. The exams were largely lecture based, but a few book questions were thrown in. He was very easy to take notes from. Also, he wasn't a bleeding heart liberal, so discussions were meaningful
Very straightforward and remained neutral with his lectures. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Ben Arnold is one of my all time favorite professors. In each test there are three extra credit questions, he provides the students with a very detailed review, and his final is not cumulative. You must take detailed notes on the power points and to what he says if you want an A+.
Arnold was awesome. Super nice, funny, and approachable guy. If you show up to class and take good notes the reviews and tests will be incredibly easy and straightforward. I purposely changed my schedule just so I could have him again this coming semester.
go to class but no need to pay attention or take notes. 3 tests which are based off of the review. he gives 5 pop quizzes that are rather simple. if you are borderline on a grade he will bump you up!! I loved him and took for both posi's! DONT NEED THE BOOK.
Mr. Arnold gives interesting lectures and also throws jokes in every once and a while. He's a cool teacher. If you don't care, he doesn't care. He makes it as interesting as I believe it can be
Taking him again! He makes it interesting and answers questions if needed. Throws in jokes to make the class stay focused. Has study guides for each exam and pop quizzes are easy if you show up to class. RECOMMEND TAKING HIM
Gives out pop quizzes but super hints at them in days beforehand. He makes lectures interesting and I would have loved to take him for all the posi classes I had to take!
He made everything clear. His power points were interesting. He didn't just read off of them the entire time; he would ask us questions and relate things to our everyday life. He was nice and had a good sense of humor. He would tell you ahead of time if you were going to have a quiz so you could study. I would definitely take him again.
I hated government before i took his class and now I really enjoy it. I'm taking another semester of government with him because i enjoyed his class so much. He's pretty funny and explains everything so well. I definitely recommend his class to everyone, its actually interesting and enjoyable. Didnt regret one minute!
When he does give pop quizzes, he says they are surprises, but he usually gave us a heads up anyway. He's pretty funny and his lectures are easy to understand. Tests are a little tough but if you study and come to class you should do fine.
This class is super easy as long as you at least half-way pay attention haha. He gives pop quizzes but will warn you a class in advance. For tests he puts the review on TRACS and as long as you do that you'll be A-OK
Good teacher, makes lectures interesting. Provides a powerpoint for notes but does not directly read off of the powerpoint. Gives "pop quizzes" but tells you in advanced when you will have them. Tests aren't hard if you study. Attendance isn't mandatory but you are only allowed 9 absences, and if you don't go you wont know when the pop quizzes are.
He is an awesome lecturer. I took him for 2 courses and would take him again. Class is easy and interesting and you don't really need the book
This professor has lied about several topics he goes over to try to make his point seem like the right one. He's also discriminative against certain things he does not agree with. Yells at people when they come in 15 minutes late or have earphones in. It is not that bad, Unless you're that person. Other than that, easy class and easy pop quizzes.
I think he was too preachy. He's super Republican, and because of that, his lectures are pretty biased, which isn't great for someone who's trying to learn about government in general. Once we get to an issue he's passionate about, he starts yelling like he's desperate to make a point. If you can take another professor, do it. He's just too biased.
Poli Sci 2320 Professor Arnold got me interested in Political Science and the election even though this isn't typically would talk about. Pay attention in class and you'll pass
Lectures are very clear and easy to follow when taking notes. Tests are easy, all you have to do is complete the review and you'll be fine. I took him for both 2310 and 2320 and thought he was great. He doesn't show favoritism when it comes to Democrat and Republican views, and he is good at presenting both sides to an issue.
Good professor. He makes learning about government fun in a way. He gives pop quizzes, but always gives you hints as to when they are coming. Don't buy the book!!
Great class. Arnold is a conservative guy which is VERY refreshing on this extremely liberal campus. Keep an open mind coming in and you'll learn a ton. Pop quizzes every once in a while, test are straight forward. With good study habits, easy A.
Overall a very good professor. He tends to get a bit preachy sometimes as a rather big conservative but other than that his lectures were very clear and the tests not difficult at all. Show up, read the book, and you're guaranteed an A.
Professor Arnold was cool af. He really knows what he's talking about and makes lectures interesting (even though it's about public policy). He's informative; he uses pretty much every minute of class, but he covers a lot of material. Tests were so easy, do the study guide and you'll get an A.
Arnold was pretty cool! I recommend taking his 50 minute classes b/c his hour and 20 minute classes would probably drag on. His tests are ridiculously easy, just study the reviews he sends out. He also gives 5 pop quizzes, but he tells you in advance when the pop quizzes will be, and they are also ridiculously easy! Final exam is non-cumulative.
There are 3 tests (each worth 30 points) and 5 easy pop quizzes (each worth 2.5 points with the lowest dropped). He's a great professor, allows laptops, gives you 5 absences, puts all the PowerPoints on TRACS, and sends out study guides for the tests. He's a bit monotoned, but overall he makes the class interesting.
Ben was a great professor. He was good teaching how the material related to us on an everyday level. No reason to get the book. He tests over his powerpoints (which he posts on tracs) and what he goes over in lecture. He also posts a review before each test on tracs.
Arnold is an awesome professor! He puts all the PowerPoint slides on TRACS for you to print which makes it super useful for taking notes. He also gives pop quizzes, but gives you warnings a couple class days before so they're never a surprise (plus your lowest gets dropped). He does have an attendance policy though, so just go to class!!
Arnold is the man. Though he did have an attendance policy on the syllabus (miss 7 classes and drop 1 letter grade, 9 absences you drop 2) he did not enforce it. I had 11 absences and secured a B. Do the study guide, show up sometimes. The tests are painfully easy and if you do well on the tests and quizzes he will cut you some slack.
Great professor, taking him again for 1320. Tests are all multiple choice and pretty easy if you study a bit. He puts all the slideshows on TRACS and gives test reviews. He does give pop quizzes so you should show up to class. He also says attendance is required but it's not counted towards your grade.
Ben Arnold was my favorite teacher to take so far. I really enjoyed his class and surprisingly got extremely interested in politics shortly after. He is easy to understand and very helpful. Arnold gives pop quizzes but they aren't difficult and he basically tells you the class before. I would definitely take him again.
Arnold made me want to switch my major to POSI after taking his classes. He breaks it down into easy understandable terms. Arnold makes class fun and I looked forward to going. I wish I could take him again because he's easily my favorite professor. Tests were exactly the review, don't buy the book.
Loved Dr. Arnold! His lectures are entertaining and he makes the content relevant to current events and puts a lot of examples in his slides. He isn't the type that pushes his opinions on students. He let us join him in conversations and was interested in what us students had to say. I really appreciated how his exams cover what he says in class!
Text book use is only for the homework, so you don't need a physical copy for it in class. Study for the test and get the homework in on time and it's an easy A. He's a funny guy.
VERY CHILL & relaxing professor. Lectures are somewhat boring, but so easy to understand- tests are so easy as long as you do the review you're going to get an A-B
His class isn't hard. If you go to class and pay attention you will pass. His reviews are very helpful and his tests come directly from that and lecture. He really cares about the subject and that comes across in class. I hated gov. classes before because they were boring but I really enjoyed his classes. Take this class with him you will learn.
Favorite professor so far, super chill & hilarious. Lectures can be boring but if you take notes the tests are super easy.
Ben is a very casual man. He's relatable and willing to hear you out during class. The most that you'll have to do for this class is complete the Connect assignments which are completion grades and then the in class tests. I didn't really learn a lot in this class honestly, but nonetheless, take it if you need to finish a political science credit.
As one of my first experiences in University, I was very pleased and lucky to have a professor like Mr. Arnold. He knows what he's talking about and is very passionate about it. This was one of the few classes I looked forward to showing up to. The tests are easy. He gives a study guide prior and if you go to class, you'll have most of the answers.
This is my second time taking Arnold, he gives great lectures and his exams are always multiple choice and easy. He also gives bonus questions on exams. Attendance isn't mandatory (he says it is), I just did the reviews and looked over his powerpoints and did fine. You do have online quizzes and learnsmart assignments but that's the only homework.
As long as you do the reviews he gives, you'll be fine. He lectures the entire time, but makes a lot of it interesting. We only had hw that the state of TX required us to do. He's funny and relaxed. Cool guy!
Arnold's grades consist of tests and online textbook activities. Textbook activities are a piece of cake and his tests are very very similar to the review he gives out! I am not good with political science and he made it easy to pass and understand the information. His lectures were entertaining and really helped when it came to tests.
Ben is a must have for 2320 hands down one of the best professors on campus and one of the most knowledgeable
Tests are based off of his lectures, which are amazing &interesting. He gives reviews for his tests which match well to the test. There is an online Connect site used for quizzes &readings. But the text book doesn't have to be read. Great class! I would definitely take again. He is a great teacher & makes learning about the world so easy and fun!!!
He's down to earth and does his best to keep from boring the students (POSI bores me to tears but he made a good effort). He could clearly speak for hours about the topics that he covers in each lecture. The homework is minimal, just the online junk required by the greedy department. Extremely easy A if you spend a night on the test reviews.
Great professor and interesting lectures. Test can be challenging he does give out a review but test are based off his lectures from class so write down what he says not just the slides. overall great teacher only 3 test two in class and then one is the final so not much room for mistake.
He was really passionate about what he was teaching. Lectures aren't too bad. All the homework and quizzes are online and they were really easy to do. He gives a review for each test and just as long as you do it, and study it, you should easily get an A on the tests.
Tests are based off of lectures, but lectures are a bit boring and hard to pay attention in. He gives a review but it only covers some of the information on the tests. Homework is easy and in the online textbook. Overall not bad just not great.
Great professor! He's a free-spirited, and caring guy. All the homework is online, along with the quizzes. Super easy. Study guides are pretty much the exam, so make sure you work on those while studying. He's also an easy grader and "loves to give A's and B's."
His lectures are alright, everything is posted to TRACS. The only grades were the connect work, quizzes and tests. The test material is off of his lectures and its all stuff you can memorize. But take the quizzes on connect seriously.
Arnold is a great prof cuz he understands we have other classes to worry about. Three tests all based on powerpoints and lecture. Not hard at all. I studied the night before and got A's on them. Gives a review for each test as well. You have online assessments too. Overall great class.
Great teacher, one of my favorite political science professors . Take him if you get the chance!
Easy A if you work for it, all of his lectures are on TRACS, relies on quizzes, which often don't have to do with the lecture. TAKE THE QUIZZES. They add up if you are not careful. Provides a very detailed review that looks just like the test. Do not try to take advantage of his caring nature, cause I'll destroy you.
Political science has always been annoying for me until I took his class. I can honestly say that I learned a lot and used the information learned in discussions outside of class. Just do the homework on tracs (not reflected on tests), take good notes (printed out the slides and wrote notes beside them), & study your lecture notes and you'll pass.
It's cool to hear from the other side of the spectrum when being bombarded with liberalism on this campus. Very refreshing.
This class is easy, but the professor just rambles in class. You are on your own with the review. Neither the slides or his lectures are helpful to prepare you for the exams.
Watched him belittle and degrade a student because she asked a question that other students had as well. Says a lot about a proffessor who tries to publically embarrass his students just because they questioned him. Avoid taking him.
awesome! Great lecturer, strongly recommend
Great Professor, Good Lectures, Great Exam Reviews. Take notes and and use his Study guide Review and you'll do great.
Mr. Arnold is a great teacher. While he relies on lecture very much, some days can be overwhelming and boring, and others he tries to switch it up and make things enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory, and all the test information is over the lectures, so I would highly recommend going. Great guy, and can crack jokes as well to liven the mood.
I LOVE Ben!! He is hilarious and I genuinely enjoy his class and it has absolutely nothing to do with my major. He keeps me interested by making me laugh and being passionate about what he's teaching. His class is super easy, all the textbook work is online but none of it is on the tests. His tests are just like the review, show up and you'll be ok
Professor Arnold is great at what he does, and does it well. Super informative, lectures are funny and enjoyable. Grades fairly and respects his students and their hard work. I highly recommend him! One of the best professors at TX State!
He gets really into the lectures so it's pretty easy to pay attention. He provides study guides for each test. The only homework is the online assignments where you have to "read" and answer questions for practice & then take a quiz at the end for a grade. The quiz isn't that hard but sometimes the questions are hard to find on quizlet.
very boring, and long lectures. calls students out and embarrasses them in front of class. tests can be hard but just do the review and study quizlets and you'll pass. have to do connect homework, but you can finish a month's worth of homework in a few hours. Says he counts attendance, but doesn't at the end.
Ben has been one the funnier professors I've had. As long as you pay attention during lecture (which can be sometimes long and boring) theres no reason you shouldn't pass. The online stuff is really easy and almost all of the answers for the quizzes are on quilt
have to buy connect but you can takw quizzes until you get a 100, he gives you a study guide for every test and they are almost identical
Professor Arnold is amazing. There are 3 tests worth 80% (that you will ace if you study his reviews), including the final because the "final" is just a test on the last unit. McGraw Hill is required but none of the material is on his tests. The MGH chapter stuff is worth 10% and the MGH quizzes are worth 10%. He's really funny and understanding.
You are not required to use a textbook but Mcgraw Hill is required. That being said you wont be tested over anything in Mcgraw Hill. Study the study guides, they are basically the test. There are only 3 tests and the final is just another test. Study the review, do the homework and quizzes and you will pass.
Arnold is such a great professor. If you put just a tiny bit of effort into this class (read syllabus, take notes) you will pass. He also cares a lot about his students and is very helpful. His lectures are also very informative and I learned a lot.
I loved this class! Arnold was so funny and interesting. He only gave 3 tests and they were all pretty easy. He also gives connect homework and quizzes, which are all easy A's. He understands that everyone is required to take this class so he doesn't make it a burden. He also says attendance is taken for a grade, but it's not.
Out of all of the POSI professors, Arnold is most definitely the best. The class is dull, but he makes it a little easier and breaks it down in a friendly way. His reviews are the EXACT test and gives them out in a fair amount of time. The homework is the online modules, but not lengthy. If you study you will for sure pass.
I don't know how he doesn't have a higher rating. I look forward to his class all week because he's pretty entertaining. This class could not get any easier unless he didn't assign homework which is so easy and you get a month to do each one. you wont regret taking him. He's very knowledgeable and passionate. I'm glad I had him and will take again
Loves to engage in discussions about lecture topics in class, making it more interesting! Not many things in the grade book. Only graded on tests (3 - inc. final) and some online homework thats super easy. He will answer your questions outside of class, and responds promptly to an email. One of my best professors.
Great teacher. I would take this teacher! There is a totally of three test including the final which is not cumulative. If you do the review you'll get an A. Power points are accessible and he reads them off with more information in additional in class.
Arnold is a solid choice for this class, If you do his test reviews, you'll do just fine on the test. He's clearly passionate about what he teaches and he makes a clear effort to keep students engaged during his lectures. There's no reason to not do well in this class
He is a great lecture. Attendance is not mandatory but the McGraw Hill online textbook is. This is where you access your homework. He gives a review for the exams. The test are not exactly like the review but it helps in the exam. The exams are multiple choice. Show up to class, do the hw, do the review and you should be fine. He can be funny.
Good professor and makes it clear on what he wants from you
Prof Arnold is a good lecturer because he knows what he is talking about and is very knowledgeable with his lectures. I found myself getting tired in the classes though because of his (somewhat) monotone voice. Very cool and sweet guy. We had 3 tests (including the final). I wish he would have given extra credit bc I was SO close to getting an A:(
Great professor, I looked forward to his classes. Participation is key to his lectures, we had a lot of interesting discussions. It's important to attend class because, though his powerpoint are easy to understand, there is material in the lectures that isn't on the powerpoint but is on the test. Took a little too long to go over certain concepts.
Exams were based on the lectures, so go to class!! I didnt like political science but he made this class interesting and enjoyable. Study guides are very beneficial and he provides them. He really cares about his students and hes sometimes funny. He reminds me of that typical dad that tells those dad jokes. Take him!!
His class is super easy. His study guides are exactly like the test. If you study the guides and read the powerpoints you are going to pass.
This class is a cakewalk. His study guides are EXACTLY like the test. Attendance isn't mandatory and material is way easy to catch up on if you miss. Nice guy, he's a political moderate, which is sort of refreshing as it gives students an opportunity to hear about both sides. Three tests and a Connect HW/Quiz grade. Would highly recommend!
Ben Arnold makes political science understandable for everybody. Very laid back class, but come to class to be prepared for discussion. Exams are pretty straightforward as long as you study using the study guides. Highly recommend for anyone!
Awesome government instructor. Just go to class and do the study guides and youll pass
This professor is so great, lectures are interesting and funny and the coursework is pretty simple. Test are a little challenging but as long as you attend class and do the reviews you should be fine
Ben is an amazing professor! His lectures are very interesting and the discussions are unlike any other! His study guides are exactly the same as test, but make sure you do the reading because he will ask book questions on the test. He really cares about his students and loves hearing what students have to say. Take him!
Took this as a summer class. 3 tests overall & 1 discussion board homework due a week. Exams are exactly like the test. There are a few questions from the book but not enough to where I think it makes a difference. Didn't get the book & got an A, just did the reviews! Professor Arnold himself was very passionate and knew what he was talking about.
Took his class in summer. Three tests (easy), weekly DB question (easy). As a professor, he's unassuming, right leaning which is nice for a change and teaches apolitically - doesn't force his personal opinions in your face, offering liberal & Conservative points of view allowing you to decide for yourself. Take his class, you'll like it.
I'm taking his class at the moment, he is an amazing professor, I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone needing to take this class. His lectures are very laid back & his exams are based on what he talks about in lecture.
Lectures are very good. Ben Arnold is a cool guy to say the least and if you pay attention and do your work this is a easy class.
Understands that not a lot of people care about government, so he makes it more entertaining. Tests are easy if you show up to class, take notes, and do the review. Good class!
Professor Arnold's lectures were interesting (in content), yet boring (in delivery). Attendance wasn't mandatory, so it was admittedly difficult to go to every class. With only three tests, that was 80% of the entire grade (online homeworks and quizzes made up the rest). The tests NEED to be studied for (but can be done off the notes he posts).
Good lectures. Just study the review and youll be fine for the test. Use Socratic app for the reading and test in the online book. Easy class, and attendance isnt mandatory
If you show up, go to most of the lectures, and study the study the study guides you will do just fine. Attendance Isn't mandatory and you have some online homework and quizes which are all easy A's if you turn them in by the deadline; there are only 3 tests total so do well on them. Overall a really easy class if you put just enough effort into it
Great guy who really knows what he's lecturing about. All his homework is online and he gives a review guide for every test that basically says what is going to be on there.
Prof. Arnold is a great professor and he really know what hes taking about so its really easy to understand the topics. As long as you study the reviews he gives youll do fine. Theres homework due at least once a month but nothing thats too extreme. Definitely recommend taking his class.
I hate the subject, love the teacher! He's very funny if you pay attention enough to listen. You do need to come prepared and pay attention to do well on the tests.
Solid professor. The subject wasn't interesting to me but he lectured it really well. He adds a bit of dry humor to his lectures, and you can tell he loves talking about Political Science. There are online assignments online that are easy. I didn't like his tests that much and usually found myself confused by them. Overall, solid professor.
Really nice guy who cares about his class. Also curved my grade a few extra points because he liked my paper. Really great professor to have here at TXST.
He is a great professor! Literally is not bias at all and teaches really well. Gives study guide before each exam and the study guide is literally the test. The homework/quizzes online are unbelievably easy. He makes class fun to and participaing is great. Overall one of the best professors I have had for a core class.
LOVE BEN SO MUCH! I wish I could take him for every class. Only 3 exams that are easy. Easy online readings & quizzes. He doesnt take attendance but I still go to every lecture bc I actually enjoy what he teaches. Hes super laid back and chill. Definitely take him!!!!
Ben is great. You are required to purchase the textbook and do the online homework but he hates it so that info won't be on the test
His class is super easy. Attendance isn't mandatory, & he posts the lecture slides online. The slides however, don't contain everything you need for tests, but he provides test reviews. The answers to the review can easily be found on quizlet. There is someone online reading and assignments but they count for very little. I definitely recommend.
Ben is great. His lectures are entertaining and he provides great review guides for the test. Attendance isn't mandatory, but his tests are over the lecture material, so it would be pretty hard to pass without going to class. I would definitely recommend him.
He's great, do the review and you will do fine. Funny dude who makes sitting through class bearable, even though it isn't mandatory.
Very few tests so make sure you study. The class is not hard if you take the time to look at the course material.
Very easy class for very little effort. Arnold makes everything as clear as possible and his tests are only based off of his power point slides. The review is basically exactly like the test with it focusing on other things more than others. Use quizlet it helps only annoying part about this class is the online hw but it has nothing to do with him
He was really chill so class time was always enjoyable, relaxed, and interesting. It helped that I enjoyed learning about government of course.
Ben really cares about his students and it shows in his teaching style. This class was really different format-wise than any other I had taken, but Ben made it easy to succeed with his patience and constant specification of what he wanted from us.
If you go to class and get notes you'll do great. His reviews are similar to the test so study them.
Ben is absolutely the best professor to take for POSI took him for 2310 and 2320 great professor. Test are exactly like the review pay attention to the court cases the test is completely on what his lectures are on. Its an easy A you dont have to show up you can just do the review.
The easiest college class I have ever taken, he gives good study guides before tests, the online assignments are very easy. I would take him for every class if I could.
Great professor and super engaging.
one of my favorite professors! hes super funny and laid back. his exams are just like the reviews, so as long as you do them, youll be square on the exams! the online assignments also arent hard. attendance isnt mandatory. if you need to take POSI, I 100% recommend this one.
If you need to take political science definitely take him!! he gives study guides that match up with the test! you have to pay for the McGraw hill online textbook and do online assignments but they're super easy and u can finish all of them in a week. His lectures are pretty good and he always uploads the powerpoints!
Ben is a great professor. He cares about his students and his lectures are great. I really recommend taking him!
Ben is such a nice guy! Even if you arent super devoted to political science, he makes it easy to follow with his lectures. His grading relies on only Connect HW and tests.
Definitely my favorite professor! Although we had switched to online halfway, he never failed to provide us with everything we needed! We had a research paper, discussion boards and a midterm exam (originally had a final but he changed it to something else to help us distract ourselves from everything going on). You'll regret not taking him!
Im taking this class currently and its during the crona virus 2020. We all have questions about when we will meet in person and how this will work. The professor sent out an email to everyone telling them to stop sending him emails about these issues. He told us that if we emailed him after this point about these issues 5pts would come off our exam
If you listen to the lectures, you will pass the test, and get an A out the class. There was no book for the class, and it was solely lecture based. He does not require attendance, but if you miss a class you will 100% miss something that will be on the test. He puts his PowerPoint slides on tracs/canvas, but they dont go into detail.
Ended up taking 2310 and 2320 with him because he managed to make a dreaded class interesting. Taking notes is highly recommended but his lectures are very laid back!
Records lectures and then HW is on connect. Super easy and gives the best review guides.
I took his class hybrid online because covid, he did his lectures online and tests in class. He talks very slow and the only reason I was able to pay attention the whole time is because I could put the lectures is 2x speed. Also, I was able to rewatch the lectures to study for the tests and that helped me a lot. Overall it was an easy class.
I took this class hybrid so tests were in person and everything else he would just post online so you could do it at your pace with watching lectures. You had to use an online textbook for hw assignments but it was super easy. His review guides you could use to follow along w lectures and fill in &they were good at showing what would be on the test
Really great professor. Only gives 3 tests which are based off his lectures so do well on them. No final, no papers, and little homework. Gives out good study guides. Take good notes and youll be fine.
One of the best profs I've ever taken. He's passionate about the material, had amazing, interesting lectures, and gave us an appropriate workload. We had easy online assignments as quiz grades, but his tests were directly from his lectures/study guides. Just TAKE NOTES, fill out the study guides, and you should get an easy A.
This is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is so passionate about what he teaches and makes class so interesting. Everything he teaches is relevant and applies to what we are facing and will be facing in the US. I would strongly recommend this professor to anybody who is taking this class. He is my all time favorite professor.
Okay professor. Lecture/test and homework/quizzes come from separate material making it feel like two classes
Professor Arnold's class is an easy pass as long as you watch the lectures in a timely manner (meaning don't hold off until the last minute) and show up to his review sessions. His exams aren't based on the homework, rather his lectures, which I greatly preferred. Homework is easy. Exams aren't hard if you keep up with modern politics.
I had him for International Studies. Nice guy, funny, and laid back. You better do decent on his test because there are only two. Also a ten page paper due at the end, but you get to have a partner. Sounds scary but it's not trust me. Don't get the book. The DB's are just over what you learned that week. Try to to know Current issues. 8/10
Amazing Professor
Ben is not your typical professor. He is funny in his lectures but is not approachable at all. Does not seem like he enjoys teaching the class. Furthermore, part of the criteria includes assignments that don't align with the lecture material, making it difficult to understand what we really need to know. Study guides are helpful though.
Hes very educated but still not a good professor. I dont know if hes tired of teaching this course but his attitude points at it. He doesnt like being bothered. He doesnt respond to emails, doesnt care if you were sick, etc. Also, he doesnt do extra credit or drops exams. If you fail your first couple exams you can forget about passing.
Ben was very easy to work with. He makes lectures very interesting. Loved the class
So easy to pass 3 tests and the review is super helpful. Just do the readings
All of the lectures were enjoyable and interesting. Make sure you take good notes on the lectures because all 3 of the exams are lecture-based. Make sure to do the reviews because they are a good guide for the exams. Come to class, take notes, study, you'll be fine!
I enjoyed taking his class, he is a great professor. Just go to class and pay attention to his lectures. Tests are easy as long as you do the review and keep up with material. Easy A.
Ben is really good and will work with you, but if you look at the reviews for the test and do the online homework you will end with a high A in the class.
Attendance was mandatory and it is a lecture class, it is important to write down the key points and anything the professor emphasizes. Tests were slightly difficult but they were 50 questions so there is room for mistakes.
Professor Arnold is a great lecturer who keeps content relevant and engaging. He speaks most of the lecture but always offers the opportunity for students to speak their opinion. Their is minimal homework, and tests are very manageable if you go to class!
Very easy class. PowerPoints used for every class. Review given before tests is basically identical to the class. Know the review=A in the class. Grade is based off of McGraw Hill assignments and 3 exams. Definitely should attend class because he talks about points on the powerpoint and adds details that he will put on tests.
While this course is very lecture heavy, the information in these lectures were very good to know for tests. All homework assignments and quizzes were done through the online textbook. Tests were in person and pretty concise with the review! If you have the opportunity, take Ben for polisci, you can tell he's passionate about what he teaches!
His lectures are very fun and he is a nice guy. His tests are not that hard if you go to class and do the review he gives you before the test. The "final" is just a regular test.
Lectures aren't that interesting but attendance is mandatory. Your grade is basically determined by the tests which are in-person on paper. For every test, he posts a review guide and if you just do the review guide and study that you should do well on the tests. If you don't wanna put in the work or time don't take him there are better options.
Chill asf. I love him. You'll love him. Awesome lectures. Awesome guy. Totally take this class.
Prof Arnold is actually really great at teaching. He gets to the point but also makes it interesting and often makes the entire class laugh. I preferred this section rather than 1310. Also his exams are easy as long as you study the study guide he gives. Literally word for word at times. You will get an 80+ if you study 3 days before the test!
Professor Arnold was so fun to have in class. Super funny. Lecture heavy and exams consist of material from lectures but exams are not hard at all. Easy A if you pay attention to his lectures. Online assignments. Final exam was just last exam and not cumulative.
Coming from a lazy students pov btw. Attendance mandatory for grade he said and I went the first couple of weeks, which I do recommend just to get the general knowledge. But after that first test, I just scanned in for attendance and left. sorry. BUT he gives reviews and STUDY THOSE AND YOULL BE SET! I got a B and 2 Cs on my exams and got a 80 flat
Took this same class with some other professor and was failing with a 50, took professor Arnolds class and passed with a B. I hate history but this guy made it interesting as h3ll. Lectures are very helpful if your actively listening and taking notes. he also makes you do those mcgraw hill assignments but they aren't that hard. he's funny too lol!
He's a great professor, he's also very good at answering questions and going into depth about a topic. Everything on the exams will be in the lectures. In person on paper exams, but the reviews he gives out are very thorough.
Ben Arnold is passionate about the topic, he translates it into his lectures. It is extremely lecture heavy, you cant just take what's on the screen you will want to go in-depth, this will help for the test. He only test over what he teaches in lectures, and test reviews are phenomenal.
Ben's lectures were very interesting and I found myself even taking about class material outside of class. Make sure you study quizlets for tests, show up to class, and pay attention.
Dr. Arnold's lectures were kind of a mess but the tests were always easy if you did the readings/notes.
This class was one of my favorites thanks to professor Arnold. He gives great lectures and study guides that help out a lot with the exam. The online portion was annoying because it wasn't on exams but he is required to give us that work. I enjoyed this class because I was able to form my own political opinion and Ben is also super funny!
Great class and professor! Dr. Arnold has great lectures, and slides that directly correlate to tests and reviews. For a course I am generally disinterested in, I learned a lot and was always engaged! McGraw Hill is unfortunately required, but it is the only homework which is easy 100s. DO THE REVIEWS! They are exactly like the test.
Extremely passionate, patient, and knowledgeable Makes class interesting He goes on tangents during the powerpoints, but it's information that's relative and sometimes useful for tests If you need to miss a class, it's not hard to catch up
Took him for 2310 and 2320, B in both. Has a textbook, doesn't go off of it. Tests based off lectures. Neat professor, takes the both sides. Pay attention to certain statistics when he says they're important because you will forget them. Tests usually 50 mc & 10 T/F. Textbook assignments will boost your grade if you aren't lecture-inclined
Super straight forward, he's such a cool guy and super chill. Workload is not much as it's all basically online. Exams are all lecture based so if you complete the review then you're completely set up to pass the exam.
This is a below average professor in all aspects. He is not a good teacher. Commenting on a student's mistakes and encouraging rectification is what is supposed to happen when grading, not comments that falsely call into question academic integrity or subject "appreciation" . Neither of those things facilitate a positive learning environment.
Polisci isn't my favorite class and I took it only because it's a gen ed, but Ben Arnold is a super chill guy who makes the class easy to pass. There are no papers to write, and 3 tests which are fully multiple choice. The homework is online and based on the textbook (which is also online) and it's basically a completion grade.
Ben is the best kind of professor to have for a gen ed course. He posts study guides before each test that are often word for word on the exam and he posts the slides on Canvas. I attended this class 50% of the time and ended with a 96. I highly recommend his class if you just need a completion grade.
Attendance isn't counted--but you won't pass if you don't attend lectures. His lectures aren't recorded and slides are skimpy. 3 exams that were completely based on lectures. There are a couple quizzes and modules that are based solely on the textbook (entirely separate from lectures). I loved this class it was a breeze. Just go to class.
Doesn't require attendance, but it's hard to make a good grade if you don't show up: his slides are available, but lacking info, and 80% of your grade is 3 lecture-based tests. His exam reviews are very helpful, and he is funny and conversational in and out of class. Answered a lot of my questions in office hours as well. Pretty good prof overall.
Professor Arnold was a great professor, not a tough class at all! we had 5 discussion boards that were so easy, midterm/final, one 10-12 pg paper with presentation that will be assigned at the beginning of semester just don't leave until last min!! overall super easy, interesting lectures, and nice professor!
Professor Arnold always held interesting and informational lectures. Included the class in conversation and mainly went over things that pertained to the test. He also provided homework that helped you make up for a bad test score and posted super helpful study guides. Would highly recommend.
He is such a nice professor, you will laugh in your class. Do the homework! and do the resume to pass the tests
He's an excellent professor! He doesn't take attendance but his exams are 100% on his lecture material. He doesn't record his lectures, and his slides are brief. He has quizzes and chapters that are completely unrelated to his lectures and come from the textbook. If you study your lecture notes and the textbook separately, this class is easy.
He had a very simple grading rubric which was essentially listen to his lectures, do the 3 assignments and pass the 3 tests and that would be an easy passing grade. There was approximately 3 sections of work in the whole semester which were due about a month apart so it was very doable. He was also just a great lecturer and had great discussions.
Ben is a pretty chill guy. The only bad thing about him is that he is a Vikings fan. Other than that, he's really a good dude. Attendance is not mandatory and his study guides are extremely helpful come exam time. The only downside to the class is the McGraw Hill assignments online, but he has no control over that. Take this class with Ben.
While the class is pretty easy, he makes his political views very clear and quite literally never really calls on female students to answer questions. His lectures FREQUENTLY get side tracked and his stuttering makes it hard to pay attention.
cool dude very interesting lectures he made posi easy for me as I hate the subject but he made it interesting really good teacher. as long as you pay attention you will pass
he was amazing. tested over the lectures but i would 100% take him again
TAKE HIM. Go to class type notes and you will get an A. He is a fun and good teacher and I loved him.
I really liked this class. the only reason I received a D is because I chose a morning lecture and I'm not a morning person so I would uncontrollably dose off. I believe if I had taken his class a bit later in the day I would have received an A+.
This was a chill class and a chill professor. he's a nice, mellow guy. The study guides were really helpful for exams, so I'd recommend reviewing them when studying was bc I was being lazy it wasn't a reflection of his teaching style.
Best teacher ever. He is funny and caring. Only 4 exam plus the readings but very easy class. His lectures are great and he has the power points in canvas. Can't wait to take him for 2320
Love this professor. Great lectures and his test reviews help a lot. He hates the Mcgraw Hill assignments but unfortunately they are required for the course. They are time consuming, but easy. Attendance isn't mandatory but going to class is honestly so worth it since his tests are only lecture based. 100% would take again if I needed another POSI.
He was my favorite teacher I have had at TXST. He is super chill and funny. He makes the class super simple for those who take notes. If you go and take notes and pay attention, you'll get no worse that a B. Take him he is the best.
Good professor. He did not let his political views influence his lectures, and he was very open to different sides and viewpoints. Also answered multiple students' questions, and his exams are pretty easy. His study guides help, but the main material comes from the lectures. Attendance is not mandatory, but recommended. Overall, chill professor.
Has online assignments that are easy grades, and tests that don't go too much into detail. Highly recommend this professor as he's funny, but the lectures can be very boring and go after the ending time.
Love Ben! He hates the McGraw Hill assignments but they are required for the course so you still have to do them but don't worry about them too much just get them done on time. There are 3 tests(third test is the final) each test is 50 questions, as long as you attend lectures and take notes on the power points in canvas you should get an easy A.
Best professor ever! His lectures were entertaining and I looked forward to them on class days. As long as you go to lecture and do the reviews you'll pass with an easy A with little to no work necessary. He was open and communicated well with the class and made each day enjoyable. I would take his class again and recommend him to anyone!!
I really liked this professor and class because he would teach to the test so when I took exams it was like I could hear the right answer in his voice in my head. However, the McGraw Hill assignments were like a separate entity--he only did that because of the department. But you could always get 100 (and easily if you read the textbook).
TAKE THIS CLASS. I have him M/W/F, class is optional. In lectures he goes over the powerpoint which is always posted to canvas. Grades only come from McGraw hill and exams. Exams are easy, pretty much word for word the test review which you can get answers from the powerpoint or quizlet. Easy A.
Showing up to class wasn't a neccessity as he pubished all of the slides, and the lecture style was kinda "death by powerpoint". All the content you needed to know was on the slides so as long as you'd review them you'll be good. He's knowledgable and is organized
BEN SLAYSSS, best political science professor at texas state 100%.
Ben is a great professor and person. He is lecture heavy but all of his powerpoint are accessible. There are two tests which you do have to study for but they all come from his powerpoint and his lectures. There is one project but it is manageable because he gives you the whole semester. Very laidback! I would take him again.
Ben isn't a hard professor whatsoever but I hardly ever went to his class because his lectures are so boring. I was making an A in his class all semester and a day before the final he found that our grades were weighted wrong and it tanked everyone's grades. His exams are worth 80%!!! He tried to make up for it but my A still turned into a B.
great teacher
LOVE Ben. Very lecture heavy but he's very passionate about what he teaches and tries to make the lectures interesting. Two exams and a paper but there was very clear guidelines and concise study guides. If you memorize the study guides, you'll be fine.
He is really passionate on what he teaches and it shows through his lectures. Attendance is not mandatory however I recommend going. Only 3 test and the test reviews help a ton. As long as you pay attention, should be easy to pass.
Ben was an awesome teacher! He really cares about the material he teaches and makes it super easy to understand. Coming from someone who was not interested in government before this class, he has completely changed my perspective and peaked my interest!
Incredibly mid. Even if you don't pay a ton of attention during his lectures, you're bound to learn something because he talks so much. Did not study at all and passed, so there's that.
Overall cool guy would definitely take his course again. If you have a hard time focusing long lectures maybe not. ATTEND LECTURES, you will do well if you actually go to his class.
Great professor - engaging lectures and fair tests. Textbook not required, but unstuckstudy ai is super helpful for exam prep. Attendance is key to doing well.
Professor Arnold is very funny and nice, shows his political beliefs which I think Political Science teachers should be neutral in class. He has online McGraw Hill assignments that are not really important to the class. All the exams which are the majority of your grade are solely based on what he speaks on in lectures so make sure to take notes.
The class is easy but the prof makes it harder than needs to be. Lecture is extremely heavy/boring however makes up the test. McGraw Hill Textbook homework assignments and quizzes are assigned for every unit however don't relate to the test at all. Very large class, not engaging.
Very passionate and understanding
Very lecture heavy. Going to class was very difficult because it was boring and long. Overall it's an okay class nothing special.
Very good professor, educated and very informed. The class consists of a midterm final and paper, and overall if you pay attention to the notes the tests are a cinch. Paper is challenging but good. Attendance policy not super strict, and he does a brief summary of the last class lecture notes at beginning. Heavily recommend!
reviews are just like the test. slides are posted and you can get most of the information from those. showing up to class felt pointless but easy class
You do need to pay attention during lectures but he makes is very easy to follow along.
This teacher has honestly changed my life. I leave every lesson feeling more capable, more informed, and (dare I say it) more alive. If you ever get the chance to be taught by them, don't walk—RUN. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from someone who doesn't just care about their subject, but cares deeply about their students.
Love him! If you get the chance to take him please do it. Lectures are funny and his reviews are exactly the questions on the exams so it's an easy A if you study. There is online work to do but it's not tested on, only in class lectures are. So go to class because not everything is on the slides.
He is an amazing and fun professor. He has a few connected topics, but they are very short. he gave a great review out before the test, and for someone who HATES government, he made this class very easy to understand. Overall, he is great and an easy A class. There are 2 tests and a final, which just covers what would've been the 3rd test.
He is great! His lectures are entertaining and he gives study guides before exams. I would recommend him to anyone who needs a POLI SCI credit!
I took this class as a requirement but he made it more entertaining with his teaching style. His reviews before tests were a life saver since it's a lot to remember. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend going since he covers everything and saves you from having to read the boring textbook.
Probably one of my favorite professors on campus hands down. He kept 2310 entertaining throughout long slide shows with interesting stories about each of the court cases. His reviews help out a lot with the exams since it is a lot of content to remember. If you ever get a chance, take him!!
He was a pretty good professor, I did have a problem with him not telling us our attendance or being able to access it, it's our responsibility but it would still be nice. I also felt like he catered to one political party over the other. Other than that he's great. Test grades weigh heavy though but they're easy if you do the review.
I will definitely be taking him again for 2320. He explains everything you need to know during his lectures in an easy to digest manner. His exams are easy, but only if you show up to class because the lectures are the exam, not the McGraw Hill (which is required by the university).
overall a great professor, make assignments clear, the study guide is basically the exact version of the test, the only thing that goes on the test is lecture points so its important to do that, if you pay attention in lecture and take even like average notes its at least an easy B
TAKE THIS CLASS. Arnold was an amazing professor who you could truly tell he is passionate about POSI. This class was very informational and included only lectures and 4 McGraw Hills. To add, all test are based on lectures (which is given in canvas also) as well as a study guide which closely resembles the test. There is no extra credit and 3 test
Professor Arnold is nice enough, but he is obviously racist and it shows in the way he presents certain statistics and through the way he talks about other cultures. He is completely uncritical of US policy both foreign and domestic, defends hyperexploitation in sweatshops. He is anti-Black, anti-Muslim, and actively denies the genocide in Gaza.
Professor Arnold is a great teacher. He keeps political science entertaining and relevant. He approaches the class with a completely bipartisan viewpoint and the lectures tie back completely to the test. Use the study guide because the tests follow it entirely. While McGraw Hill is required, it's not a big part of the class and isn't on the test.
Im terrible at anything history or gov related and I ended with a 99. The study guide is the exact same as the exam if you study that you'll end with an A. No homework and very little McGraw Hill.
Don't take him unless you learn best by sitting and absorbing what he says - that's the best way to pass the exams; he explains concepts in-depth that makes it memorable for the exam. Was very understanding when a family event happened, very neutral and welcomed discussion in class, and always bring a good vibe
Really easy class if you just show up and take notes on the slides he provides. The study guides are just like the tests, and the assignments have no content on them related to the actual test. I really enjoyed this class because the professor would ask great questions to the class, which would lead to great discussions.
Professor Arnold is hands down one of the best professors i've ever taken! He is extremely passionate an knowledgeable about what he teaches and he is really funny too. This class is also a breeze. Most of his tests come straight from the study guide and they're fairly easy too!
He understands McGraw Hill is a terrible way to learn. Lectures were always very interesting and engaging. Participation in discussions is not mandatory but it will definitely help you remember the concepts. Although a mandatory class, it was fun and engaging and almost made me want to switch my major to Political Science. It's impossible to fail.
